Childrens Literature - childrens classics, early reader

I've told my children that when yard sale time comes around, Frog and Toad books stay. I'm holding them for the grandchildren. The Frog and Toad books have held up well - my oldest 'child' is 32, my youngest not yet 9, and everyone has heard Frog and Toad stories over and over. This book, published in 1970, is the first of four. The two friends are somewhat like the Odd Couple, two best friends with distinctly different personalities. Frog is usually cheerful, while Toad tends to view things from a darker side. In "Spring", Frog convinces Toad that Spring really is here, that it is worth it to get out of the bed where Toad's been lying for so long his calendar still says November. In "The Story", Toad (who isn't quite as much a creative thinker as Frog) struggles to think up a story to cheer up his ailing friend - he struggles so hard that Frog ends up comforting him!"A Lost Button" is an amusing story about a search for (you guessed it) a lost button - Toad's lost his button, and Frog spends his time looking for it - they find many buttons, but not the one Toad's looking for, which turns up back at Toad's house. He reward his friend by sewing him a special jacket filled with all the buttons. In "A Swim", the self-conscious Toad tries to hide while putting on his swim suit, but ends up being seen by everyone, wearing his funny striped suit. Even Frog laughs at him - but he manages to walk home with dignity. "The Letter" is the last story in this book. Like many little children, Toad loves getting letters but is really sad because nobody writes to him. Frog comes to the rescue, eventually, with the help of a turtle mail carrier. The stories are short, sweet and about friendship, but in a simple manner. Drawings of Frog and Toad are on almost every page, and are detailed enough to warrant a lengthy view and some comments from young readers. The words are understandable and readable enough for very young readers, yet they manage to hold a story with an amusing message. Frog and Toad Are Friends (I Can Read Book 2)

Because I am dedicated to reading aloud to my kids, I tend to review a book based upon whether or not it makes a good read-aloud book. All of the Frog and Toad books, and especially this one, are simply terrific for reading aloud. My (four-year-old) daughter and I both love this book. The stories are funny and become funnier with each re-reading. For example, in the final story, Frog writes Toad a letter because Toad never receives mail and becomes sad every day at mailtime. Frog proceeds to give his letter to a snail for delivery. Frog cannot stand the suspense of waiting for the snail to deliver the letter, so he tells Toad about the letter and relates the contents. Together, they happily wait for the letter to arrive, which takes four days. Every time we read this story, my daughter laughs because Frog gave his letter to a snail, when everyone knows that snails are the slowest creatures alive. The Frog and Toad books represent a perfect bridge from picture books to books where the words provide the story and the illustrations are infrequent and/or merely supplemental. The stories in these books are carried forward by the words, but the illustrations on each page would keep even the most dedicated picture-liking child happy. If you're looking for a book to read aloud to your four to five year old, give Frog and Toad a try. You won't be sorry.

"Toad said, 'Frog you are looking quite green.' 'But I always look green,' said Frog. 'I am a frog.' 'Today you look very green even for a frog,' said Toad. 'Get into my bed and rest.' So begins one of five expertly crafted episodic chapters in this endearing Caldecott Honor beginning reader classic. Frog and Toad, true green friends, will leap into the hearts of any reader, beginning or advanced. Through rhyme and repetition of high frequency words, such as "said," Lobel crafts a text that is predictable, but not without surprises, and highly accessible to the beginning reader. Tasteful and simple, the illustrations do not overpower the text. Instead, they become more prominent where the text becomes unpredictable. For example, when Frog is sick and asks Toad to tell him a story, Toad goes through a series of unanticipated actions in an attempt to make a story pop into his head, including standing on his head, pouring water over his head, and banging his head against a wall. In this section of text, Lobel includes additional illustrations, providing visual clues to the potentially struggling decoder. Frog and Toad are Friends stands in a class of its own, as beginning reader books are rarely acknowledged for achieving excellence in writing. Frog and Toad are two unforgettable characters, and young readers may wonder whether they resemble either Frog or Toad more. They will also undoubtedly long to have Frog and Toad for friends.

My 6 year old loves this book! 5 wonderful storys! Every time we read it he wants me to send him a letter so he can get mail like frog and toad! I read these books when I was a very small child so its wonderful being able to read these books to my step-son! Great book!

Would you pour a glass of water on yourself and then proceed tostand on your head for the sake of making a friend feel better? Toaddoes exactly that in an attempt to think of a story for his sick friend, Frog. In this Caldecott Honor winning easy reader, Frog and Toad are Friends, Arnold Lobel lovingly illustrates the friendship between these two amphibians. Whether searching for lost buttons, swimming in a nearby river, or writing letters, Frog and Toad are always there for each other. The unpredictable and humorous actions of these charming characters grab reader attention, keeping them engrossed in the story. Toad says, "Frog, you are looking quite green," and Frog replies, "But I always look green, I am a frog." Lobel carefully chooses easy-to-read words and uses repetition throughout the five short episodes of the book. He combines sight words and short words that can be decoded fairly easily to construct sentences accessible to the beginner reader. The large typeface and ample space between both the lines and words of the text make the book approachable for young children. Pictures on each page depict Frog and Toad's actions clearly enough to provide struggling readers with clues to decode any unfamiliar words. Children grades one to three will enjoy reading this well crafted story that depicts a wonderful friendship between the two delightful characters. - Childrens Literature - Apryl Skies - Childrens Classics - Early Reader'

Benchtop Lathes - jet lathe, mini lathe

I first used this machine during a woodturning course and loved it. It is similar to the jet 12X20, with an easier belt adjustment design. The cover easily moves to the side. The jet lathe has 2 doors, one for the top belt and one for the bottom. Switching speeds is pretty quick with the rikon lathe. Performance is very good. I have been turning various spindle pieces with no problems to report. I purchased this model with the adjustable stand, which is solid and sturdy. I would highly recommend this lathe for beginner woodworkers. RIKON 70-100 12-by-16-Inch Mini Lathe

I received the lathe and was so excited to try my hand at turning. I pulled the unit out of the box which had obviously been dropped or something because of the huge dent and cracked/crumbled styrofoam on one corner. Luckily there was a lot of styrofoam on the corner and no parts were damaged!

Everything looked great and I'm thinking to myself "I'm feeling pretty good about getting this lathe vs. the jet 12x20" but then I see that the manual and the tool rest are missing (what a bummer, I had wood ready to turn and all)! So, Im not concerned about the manual but a tool rest would have been great!

I really hope to update this post with good info about Rikon's customer service and I hope they correct the problem very fast (Im thinking 5 star product once I get as chance to use it). Until then, I can't even get started and therefore have no review about how well it works. Otherwise, spurs line up perfect (and I mean PERFECT), motor runs smooth and quiet and everything looks/feels great.

UPDATE: I received the 8" tool rest and the manual within 4 days. In the meantime I had bought a curved tool rest and turned two bowls which verified my initial thought about this lathe ... it's fantastic, 5 stars all the way. The locking arm that holds the tool rest is machined a bit loose however it has not stripped out and I don't think it will anytime soon. All in all this is a well made machine for the money and it turns out Rikon customer service is very good also.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago to make specialized "beaters" for my bodhran (Irish frame drum). It took just a few minutes to set up and I've made several nice pieces since then. I haven't used a wood lathe since Jr. High shop class, some 40 years ago, so I don't have much experience. But with the help of a good book and a wide range of YouTube videos on wood turning, I'm having lots of fun. I recommend this lathe.

The tailstock ram locking arm stripped out the first time I used it. The service center was very prompt in sending a replacement, but it was the wrong item. After sending detailed photos and speaking to the Tech support person, they sent another wrong part. This none was not machined correctly so it would not even fit on the bed. I had to file down the tenon to make it fit. The holes and threads were so filled with paint that they had to be cleaned out before I could make it work. The live center had to be lubricated to keep it from squeeling. The fan on the motor was loose and rattled. After e-mailing Rikon with my complaints, they stopped responding. I would not buy another Rikon tool.

I ordered the lathe knowing I would have to wait for shipment. After lots of research, this seemed the best for me at an affordable price. Waited about a month for it. The box looked as if it had some rough handling, but no severe damage was noted - no holes, etc. and two straps still on it.

Opened the box, lifted out the upper foam filler pad, and with a little help, picked the lathe up to set it on the bench. As we moved it toward the bench I heard something hit the floor with a little metallic ring. Lo & Behold, one of the mounting lugs was broken off across the hole. Looking at the foam in the box, it looked as tho the lathe had likely, been dropped while being packed.

I decided that rather return it and wait for another one, that I could live with the one broken lug. Started unpacking the small parts, only to find that the tool rest was missing. No way could it have come out of the box enroute. We did a check of the shop to be sure we had not dropped it.

Called Rikon customer service the next morning, told them the problem and was informed that all they needed was the serial number - which I provided - and they would send a replacement out. Got it 6 days later. They asked no questions about why or how it was not in the box - made me wonder if they were aware they had shipped some lathes knowing everything was not there!

After all that, the lathe runs quietly and smoothly, everything is sturdy and seems to be well made. I'm anxious to find time to try it out now.

Would've been 5 stars except for the above. I definetely would recommend the product to others. - Mini Lathe - Benchtop Lathes - Jet Lathe - Lathe'

Plantronics 220 - handsfree, plantronics

I recently purchase this bluetooth for 12 bucks from Amazon. It's a great price for a basic bluetooth. I personally do not care all the fancy features that higher priced models have, I'm sure they are nice and may come in handy from time to time but I rather save the 60 dollars. It's very easy to do the initial set-up and to operate it. Uses one button for all the funtions, such as answering a call, redialing last number, voice dialing (only if your phone has that feature)or rejecting a call and has separate volume buttons. It's very clear at both ends, nobody has complained of not being able to hear me clearly. The bluetooth itself is very nice looking, small, light and it fit my ear perfectly. I would have givin this bluetooth 5 stars if it wasn't for the packaging, I was not aware the Bulk Packaging meant Amazon would put the headset in a sandwich bag with a bad photo copy of the instructions which were barely readable almost if I had gotten from a Craker Jack's box. But I guess if it saves you a couple bucks. I was so impressed with the headset that a bought 2 more pieces but from Newegg price was better and the packaging was more proffesional, it had a way better version of instructions. Plantronics Explorer 220 Bluetooth Headset [Bulk Packaging]

The range of this bluetooth is very poor. You can't walk more than 3ft away from it before it starts to sound flaky. The headset is comfortable and battery life is really good. Other problem I had was that when I use it while driving, people say that it sounds like i'm driving with the windows down when I'm actually not. I wouldn't recommend this product because of the sound clarity and range. $10-$20 more will be worth it.

This is a very good unit. Although, after 5 feet the bluetooth looses signal with the phone. And the earpiece is not FLEXABLE, causing severe pain after about an hour of wear. If the ear peice was re vamped, and the range extended it would be the perfect bluetooth!

(BAD) This bluetooth piece, in all respects, is huge and there is no way to adjust it to make it smaller. You would need to have ears the size of a full grown man for it to fit securely. I can loosely drape it on my ear, but it falls off no matter what I do.

(BAD) Sound quality is terrible. It sounds better on my cell phone than it does on this bluetooth. There is static, the caller sounds distant, and the sound is overall tinny.

(BAD) The microphone quality is just as bad as the sound, the callers claim that I sound very tinny and distant.

(FAIR) The range isn't terrible, but because the sound quality is already very poor you wouldn't want to get too far out of range or you'll not be able to hear the caller well at all.

(GOOD) It pairs well with any phone, just remember to hold the button for it to go into "pairing mode" which is indicated by alternating flashing blue and red lights.

This is the most disappointing earpiece I have ever tested- I will NOT be keeping it.

I trust the Plantronics brand, but this product is definitely not living up to their usual standards.

I don't own any other Bluetooth headsets. This has been the only one I'va had for about 3 years running and it is as good as the first day I bought it. Its very ergonomic and comfortable to wear. Very simple to handle and the rounded edges make it less extravagant or garish as some other newer models that i've seen. Sound quality is perfect and has a great range. Of course, if you have to go through more than 2 or three walls in your home it degrades but that's to be expected from any wireless device, especially bluetooth.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the talk time. It has lasted for more than 2 or 3 hours of straight talking and it definitely can last about 3 days on pure standby. I don't think I can say anything more positive about the product without sounding like a corporate endorsement but it is a truly great product and the price is perfect. I originally bought mine in walmart for about $30 plus dollars and I don't hesitate to recommend it to people that want to get their first and only wireless device.

i bought this for my ps3 and i love it! it arrived a day early than thought. it came in a box and it was wrapped in plastic on the inside. it came with a charger also. it fits my ear and my girlfriends ear perfectly and is very comfortable. i would really recomend this to anyone looking for a bluetooth headset for a great price. the quality is wonderful. it looks brand new and very slick. looks like it would cost more than $11. its better than spending the $40 plus dollars on the sony ones. i would buy this again. very happy with my outcome.

So I bought this head set for my husband's PlayStation 3. We didn't want to spend the extra money on a name brand headset. We simply wanted something easy to use and affordable. That's exactly what we got. I bought this item over a year ago. It still works perfect minus the usual cosmetic wear which will soon have us buying another of the same type. I love and highly recommend this product. Affordable, easy to use, and very durable! - Plantronics - Bluetooth Headset - Accessories - Handsfree'

Edutainment - rhythm game, rb3

Pros:

Work seamlessly with the Roland TD9-SX. I was able to customize the Midi assignments (via the Roland) to use multiple cymbals. Much better trigger response that the ION drum rocker!

I Highly recommend it!

Cons (all minor):

No "chat" headset connection. no wireless connection, doesn't come with a Midi cable and the instruction were fairly vague. Xbox 360 Rock Band 3 Midi PRO-Adapter

As many have noted, it took forever for this to be released; but now it's here. Have used it with a Yamaha electric piano, and it just works. There are almost no instructions, but all you do is plug the USB cable into your XBox (or USB hub, of course), and plug a MIDI cable from your instrument to the adapter.

This has actually gotten me to start learning keyboards after many years of procrastination.

Note that the adapter does not include a MIDI cable -- so be sure you have one.

This works exactly like it's supposed to and is easy to connect. The bad news is that it is hard to find. If you have a midi compatible keyboard or guitar and really enjoy rockband then get it if you can find it.

After a long wait to recieve this I can honestly say it was worth it. I use it for Pro drums on a TD9 kit and it is just awesome. It definately works they way it should and corrects your playing to be a more accurate drummer. It has made the game much more fun and challenging. I highly recommend this to any one looking to improve their drumming skills. I have not used it in the other guitar or keyboard fashion but I would assume that it is just as good.

I'm responding to the reviewer(s) bemoaning not being able to find the product anywhere (really? come on), and also to anyone considering buying this off of Amazon (at $100 or more). Just go directly to the MadCatz website and order directly from them at the MSRP of $39.99. They are in stock. (Information as of 3/10/11).

This thing is AWESOME. I hooked it up to my Roland TD9 and it was literally plug and play...everything mapped correctly and I was jamming within seconds. The responsiveness of this unit is phenomenal...it never ever EVER dropped a note (unlike my previous ion drum rocker module) and make it so easy to swap from normal drums to rock band drums.

This is just an adapter, into which you can plug a real instrument (a midi guitar, keyboard, or drum kit.) It will then act as an XBox controller, allowing you to use that instrument when playing Rock Band 3. You can also buy them for other game systems.

It does exactly what it's meant to do, I've had no issues or problems.

It has the standard buttons and controls. It also has a "clip" that lets it sit on a belt, the edge of a music stand, etc. - that same clip can be removed and attached at a different angle to let it attach to the base of a guitar (which is how I have mine connected) - that way the adapter becomes "part of the guitar" and you don't need to worry about having an extra device to trip over.

(Speaking of tripping, it uses cables, not wireless. But it doesn't need its own batteries, although the instrument you're plugging in might.)

I was skeptical that the adapter would work with my not "officially" supported piano. However moments after I opened the adapter (plus the midi cord which is not included) we were rocking out with no issues.

I ordered the Midi PRO Adapter from MadCatz and a 5-foot MIDI cable from Hosa to finally be able to play "real" drums with Rock Band 1/2/3. What a pleasure it is!!

Within 5 minutes, everything was connected, drums were calibrated, I had dialed in the right level on the Midi-PRO adapter to avoid crosstalk, and I was rocking out. I had to swap the hi-hat and crash cymbal plugs at the DTXplorer brain side, since Rock Band wants them backwards from what most people play, but that's optional.

It just works, no special configuration required on the drum set side other than the cable swap mentioned above.

Wish this adapter had been available months and months earlier, but now that it's finally here - yippee!!!

Just purchased the Roland TD-4K2-S electronic drums and the PRO-Adapter for the Xbox 360 to go along with it. Works fine, right out of the box. No problems setting it up or anything. Very satisfied so far. - Keyboard - Rb3 - Rhythm Game - Edutainment'

Digital Camera Accessory - class 6, 8gb

Its a pretty simple deal. The card is exactly as advertised. Its fast and, so far at least, reliable.

My only little complaint is that the SD card reader included is cheap. Let me set that straight- I expected it to be cheaply built. It was cheaper than I expected. The main thing I expected is that the USB connector would be made of metal- its made of plastic. Its in the picture, but I didn't notice that detail. I found that some others didn't notice it either.

Now for my purposes this turns out to be just fine. I only use the reader as a backup reader, not as my main SD card reader. Still I feel it should be noted. Transcend 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card with USB Card Reader TS8GSDHC6-P2

I use this with my Powershot camera. I'm not a professional photographer, and don't want to become one. I just wanted something to hold lots of pictures and be easy to download onto my computer. This is it.

The adapter that allows the MC to be placed in a port on the front of my computer can't be any easier. It brings up the photos fast. I'm no expert on speeds and the like, I just know for a family photographer, and a nature picture taker, this is the perfect tool to save the shots for as long as needed. I've never run out of space and tend to save shots for a long time.

There has never been any hint of a glitch using this MC and the USB Card Reader.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone, family shooter or professional. For the price, you can't go wrong.

This worked fine out of the box. It glows when you plug it in to tell you that it's connected correctly, which I found nice. It's so simple to use there's really nothing more to say. The only small thing is I rather wish it was a little more substantial in it's construction. Something little like this might accidently have something put on it, and I don't feel comfortable that it would survive much mishandling.

So you're looking at buying this, which means you're looking for the memory card and the reader.

Given the current Amazon prices are ~$5 different between the model with the card reader and just the card, this means the card reader costs you approximately $5, right?

Well, you get what you pay for.

The card itself is fast, both in writing from a Canon XSi DSLR camera and in reading from the included card reader. The capacity is 8 GB (less in actual use thanks to formatting the device). I can take the quoted fastest frames per second (3.5 fps) with this card, unlike the generic 2 GB SD card I have. The Class 6 speed really seems to help.

Now the card reader itself... it's VERY cheaply built. It doesn't feel like it will break if you drop it, but it doesn't seem like it would take much to damage it either. The memory card sticks out of the reader which is a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. It's easy to remove the card from the reader. It just takes some lining up on your part to ensure the card is inserted correctly.

For a $5 premium? I don't care if the reader is cheaply built. It WORKS and it is cheap. And that's enough for me.

I had just purchased a brand new computer and was very excited about the fact that it had built in card readers. Then I purchased a new camera, the Panasonic Lumix dmc-zs3, and learned from reading all of the reviews that you should use a SD HC card, and most computers don't read the SD HC cards, just SD. Anyways, I purchased this card because it came with the reader and it is great. Very convenient, no more trips to the store to have them put on CD. I have only had it since the end of November and am very happy so far!

This card functions perfectly, but how much can you say about a memory card? Here is the "unexpected bonus" that I referenced in the subject line:

My PC at home has an external media reader, but the SD port on it does not support SDHC (high-capacity) cards; only standard (non-HC) cards. Because this Transcend card comes with a USB adapter (which allows you to insert the SD card into USB ports), I can now read SDHC cards on my PC using the USB ports! I am very pleased about this.

Shipping was fast, and the product works perfectly!

I purchased this to use as a dedicated ReadyBoost volume with my netbook, an ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) running Windows 7. Unfortunately, Windows said the volume was too slow!

I also bought two of the 4GB versions of the same SD card, the Transcend 4 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS4GSDHC6E [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging], and the two supposedly identical units showed very different speed results with the native Windows 7 ReadyBoost speed test. I now use the faster of the two 4GB cards for ReadyBoost (which seems to help Windows 7 performance very nicely, btw).

Bottom line, these cards seem to vary in performance from unit to unit based upon my limited experience.

Perhaps a different unit of the same 8GB card would be faster, your mileage may vary, etc... - Class 6 - Memory Card - Sdhc - 8gb'

Linux Compatible - labeling tapes, labelwriter

Dymo has long provided highly functional label makers. The 450 continues in that tradition.

The pros far outweigh the cons. They include inkless printing, automatic connection to Outlook contacts, automatic zip code printing (only if you have the complete 9 digit zip code), a seemingly endless list of available label sizes and functions (including CD labels). Software installation and set up for the label writer was easy and efficient.

The con is one that has plagued Dymo for several generations of it's label writers - it is unreasonably difficult to install new labels. (You eventually learn the secret of carefully aligning the labels at an angle so a "corner" is fed in first.) For a product that otherwise performs so flawlessly, this annoyance should be addressed. DYMO LABELWRITER 450 Label Printer,(1752264), USB, PC/MAC, Printer and Software, 51 Labels Per Minute, black/silver.

I have replaced a 3 year old Dymo LabelWriterr 315 that no longer could operate with Apple OS 10.6.

I am very pleased with this printer. I think that Dymo at last have a good software that enables on to read the address list without having the printer connected. For my periodical use it is very fast. I recommend this simple printer

The Labelwriter 450 printer works great!! The Version 8 software has some design "improvements" which border on being bugs.

1 - If you open a file with an existing file name ending in a number and you perform a SAVE AS function the software truncates any numbers on the right hand side of the filename. So, if you are labeling parts and there happen to be numbers in your part numbering schema, BE CAREFUL that you don't lose the numbers.

2 - The software no longer previews the label of a file selected in the file open menu.

3 - The software is bloated and takes a long time to load up.

I had a Brother labeler before this one, I decided to give dymo a try because I hate the wasted tape I get from every brother printer I had. Boy am I glad I did. This is one neat fast printer. The software is easy to understand and use. To be honest I am kicking myself for not buying this before. The brother is cheaper where I am but the Symo is worth every penny. I threw my Brother labelers in the trash maybe 15 minutes after my first Dymo print. I love these guys! Excellent print quality, excellent labels. impressive software.... in a word.. WOW.

I ordered this because I need to print postage and address labels on a regular basis.

When it arrived I learned the hard way that postage and address labels use different types of tape and that it is quite a pain to switch back and forth between the two.

The product you (and I) need for printing both postage and address labels is the DYMO Label Writer Twin Turbo.

Maybe someone from Dymo will see this post and update the product description here.

As someone who actually gets excited about organizing and labeling things, I feel compelled to tout how much I like this little printer. I do technical work and run a department with many little parts we organize in hundreds of parts bins...I was looking for a label maker to create labels for these..this one is perfect. Create your own custom layout with their software (I have a Mac and had no problem at all with the software), then label away. I've used/owned many label machines, from basic office store type to industrial ones for labeling wires and cable. This Dymo 450 is so much better than a cartridge P-Touch kind of unit for any office use...much much cheaper than going thru those stupid expensive cartridges just for labeling folders and such..and as I mentioned, you create exactly the format you like on the computer and it spits them out fast and cheap. Print quality is excellent and there are many sizes of print rolls Dymo offers.

Is fast and produces high-quality output, it's attractive and doesn't take up much room. Set up was a breeze. The Mac interface is a good balance between simplicity and flexibility. If you need labels, this is a big step beyond printing sheets of them on your regular printer.

First of all Amazon is amazing. I had problems with my first labelwriter and Amazon told me to send it back. Within a couple of days, yes a couple of days to Hawaii, I received another one that is functioning perfectly. This labelwriter is amazing. It has so many printing and labeling options available and they all produce professional end results. Quick and easy with One Click - and I do mean quick. If you are thinking about getting a labelwriter, get this one. And don't forget to get all their labels in different sizes that are available. Believe me, when you get this home you will find many uses for it at home, work or recreation. The only thing I don't like about this is the standby light that is on 24/7. I wish they could have given the consumer the option to turn off this light or to get it dimmer. - Labeling Tapes - Label Printer - Labelwriter - Label Maker'

Wireless Router - wireless n, d-link

This antenna does work. It's all in the way you position it. It's design leaves a little to be desired but, if you position it just right, it works. I connected the antenna to my router, ran the cable under my scanner and up through the back so the antenna sits on top of the scanner. My signal went from "Low" and "Very Low" to "Very Good" on both my wireless N equipped PC and Laptop. Considering the router is on the other side of my apartment in my bedroom; some 60 feet away with a wall in between, it's great. I would recommend it. D-Link ANT24-0230 Xtreme N 2.4GHZ Indoor Antenna

When assessing the effectiveness of an indoor antenna like the Xtreme N 2.4 Ghz antenna, it is important to remember that range and bandwidth of a wireless connection depends on many factors, including the number of obstacles, the actual location of reception, and the wireless card itself. In my house, there are many walls and doors separating the dir-655 D-Link router and my laptop. The distance between the two is about 80 feet, hardly a short distance.

I gained one bar (from very low to low) and doubled the speed (from 6.5 Mbps to 13 Mbps+) with an ASUS Eee 1000 netbook that has a built-in 802.11n card. In the same position, a regular Dell Latitude laptop with a built-in 802.11g card gave me two bars (same as the ASUS) and 54 Mbps. I suspect that the ASUS wireless card has a rather limited range. So after spending considerable with antenna orientation, there is some improvement with the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna in that particular position (where I sit).

I should note that if I move to a slightly different position in the room, I receive a good signal (3 bars+) with a much higher bandwidth. So my sitting location is obviously not ideal for wi-fi reception. With two bars, I am still able to surf without too much trouble (i.e., interruptions).

I should add that I tested the Hawking HiGain Directional Corner Antenna, indoor, 15dBi - HAI15SC with the dir-655 router (I was told by the manufacturer that it should work with an N router), but that antenna was less effective than the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna.

The bottom line is: Do not expect too much from this antenna. It can help you improve your signal strength, but suddently you are not going to go from one bar to five bars.

I used this antenna to move WiFi transmission beyond a plaster wall and away from some other electronics. That seemed to make all the difference - I tested two spots where I previously had trouble and there are no dropouts and faster transmission.

I pretty much knew after reading the reviews for this antenna that it probably wouldn't boost my Dlink DIR-655's signal. I rolled the dice and decided to try it anyway. If you want to place the antenna in a different spot, within 3 feet of your router or network card, then this is something that will work for you. It would be nice if the antenna's cable was at least 7 feet longer, for better placement.

The antenna is easy to setup and includes screws and wall anchors, if you want to mount it on the wall. I hear you can buy some cable to extend the length on Ebay.

In conclusion, don't buy this if you are trying to boost your signal or improve the reception on a network card. Do buy this if you want to move the antenna within 3 feet of your router or network card. To improve your signal, a wireless repeater or repeater bridge will be a much better option, though it will halve your throughput(not an option for me). Get a router that supports DD-WRT and turn it into a wireless repeater or repeater bridge. You can also try moving your router to a better spot. Category 5e patch cable is cheap.

diffenently get a little better signal but not by much. the cable is about 5 feet too short to really be useful (its only about 3 feet long) and position the antenna in the optimal spot for improved signal receiption.

Our PC that uses a D-link DWA-552 draft-'N' wireless card has its three antennas very close together and extends out the bottom rear of the PC where other PC Cables drape down onto or near them. With the PC on the floor under a desk, the antennas are in a very poor location.

The "signal strength" would register between 50 and 60 percent from our router not really that far away (but with multiple walls, desk wood, and shelves inbetween).

Although the cable is only several feet long, using this device to move the antenna location away from the rear of the PC into a much better location a couple feet up a wall and a couple feet away from the PC resulted in constant signal strength of 100%. This increased throughput between 2x and 3x from what it was before and would stay there a bit more consistently in it's fight against signals from the neighbor's networks (at least two others are in range).

The antenna itself is probably a little bit better than the PC card's in that the antennas are further apart, but this would likely not be an advantage when hooking to a router.

The antenna elements don't look like ones with additional gain (fairly short). The big advantage that worked for us is the ability to move it into a better location/orientation -- and it being spread out a bit further than the PC Card alternative. It's not an antenna that gets better range due to being directional.

For us it worked great. - 80211n - Wireless N - Extreme N - D-link'

Bedroom Alarm Clock - alarm clock, dual alarm

I bought this to replace my old alarm clock. It has a sleek design that takes up very little space. It has two alarms and can be set to radio, beeps or songs and has an adjustable snooze setting. The built in radio works well and there's a sleep setting so that if you like to fall asleep to the radio you can have it automatically shut off after a certain amount of time.

It has an adjustable brightness level, but I found its default/highest level to be suitable. At that level it's bright enough to see in the dark, but not bright enough to keep me up. The alarm is easy to wake up to and gradually gets louder on the beep setting. It automatically set itself to the correct time and date as soon as I plugged it in, all I had to do is set the time zone. It has a DST feature that can be turned off or on.

The only feature lacking is the ability to customize the alarm for either weekdays, weekends or both. It's not a big deal, especially with two alarms but it would have been nice. Overall I'm very pleased with this alarm clock. Sony ICF-C414 Clock Radio with Large 1.4 LED Display

Decent alarm clock for the price.

Pros: inexpensive, preset time, dst auto adjust, battery backup for power failure, easy to tune radio stations, easy to read display, brightness of display is adjustable.

Cons: Alarm "A" can be set to chime or radio, Alarm "B" can only be set to chime or an electronic tune. Both alarms cannot be set to the radio. Cannot adjust or view the alarm setpoint unless the alarm is turned on, so when you pass the current time the alarm activates. Radio sound is poor but in line with the price of the alarm clock. The snooze can increased from 10 min to 20 min to 30 min etc, but if you hit the snooze button twice while initially silencing the alarm, you go straight to the 20 min snooze.

Overall: a good alarm clock for the price but I would have paid more for a full featured clock radio had I know its limitations up front.

The item description is very accurate. If you want a dual alarm clock radio similar to those from 10 years ago, that is exactly what you will get and that is why I ordered it. Nothing fancy, just basic but with the Sony dependability. There are a few nice things though - the time is preset, options for the dual alarms sound, adjustable brightness, battery backup, very easy to operate and the AM radio actually works well, unlike other clock radios. This clock radio has no frills but for the price, it is good and dependable.

I have been using this alarm clock for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. After years of searching for the right alarm clock I finally found it.

Positives:

1) I can see the display! I have moderately poor vision (glasses prescription is -3.75) and if I wake up in the middle of the night I can clearly see the time with this clock at my bedside. The green light plus the large numbers are very clear.

2) The progressive alarm wakes up even my heavy-sleeping husband. The first few beeps are slow and they gradually speed up to grab the attention of the heaviest sleepers.

3) You don't have to set the time! What more can I say? You set the timezone, plug it in, and it sets the time. It even catches daylight savings.

4) If the power goes out the small battery saves your alarm settings so when the power comes back on, the clock resets itself and you still have your alarms ready to go. This has saved me from being late to work more than once after a late night power outage.

5) The display light is adjustable. I've had green/blue alarm clocks before and the display was so bright it practically light up the whole room. The dim setting is fine at night, I can see it but it's not acting like a flood light, and I can still see the display just fine during the day too on the dim setting. Though during daylight hours I do have to get a little closer to the clock to see it.

6) I love the full 10 minute snooze. I don't understand why other clocks have a 7 or 9 minute one.

7) You can turn off the alarm when it's in snooze-mode, you don't have to wait for the alarm to go off again.

Neutrals:

1) The radio isn't great, lots of static and the speakers don't sound perfect. But I wasn't buying a radio, I was buying an alarm clock so that doesn't really matter to me. If you want a radio go buy a radio. *shrug*

2) The alarm isn't terribly loud. This is counter-acted by the progressive alarm beeping.

3) It's a little bit large, but for the big display numbers I assume that's kind of necessary.

Cons:

I really don't have anything bad to say about this clock.

One other note:

Some people have mentioned in their reviews that you cannot set the snooze back to 10 minutes if you go too far. If this happens wait until the snooze display clears off (takes a few seconds) then re-hit the snooze button, this will reset it to 10 minutes. - Dual Alarm - Alarm Clock - Battery Backup - Clock Radio'

Slr Backpack - slr bag, photography

I bought this camera bag just over a year ago to hold my astrophotography equipment with equipment for piggyback as well as prime focus imaging. This amounts to ALOT of equipment & accessories. So far I have put the following in the bag: 2 cameras (Canon Digital Rebel 400D & Imaging Source DBK-21 video camera), 3 lenses, 3 power supplies, a multitude of telescope & camera adaptors, 2 barlows, telescope/camera piggyback adaptors, filters, a dew heater, right angle finder, memory cards, extra batteries, 2 battery chargers, manuals for all of this stuff, & what seems like a million camera & computer cables. I also carry 2 magnetic compasses, a red LED flashlight, cell phone w/ 2 chargers & a level as I travel to dark sky sites. It easily holds all of my things. Despite all of this stuff, I still have room for more, which is good since I just bought a full-frame astronomy ccd camera w/ a built in filter wheel, 2 large prime lenses, 2 power supplies, & 5 dew heaters!!

This bag has proven to be very durable. It has more than adequately handled the weight of my equipment, which is very heavy. None of my equipment has incurred any damage whatsoever.

As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to buy another one of these camera bags as I have decided to separate my daytime photography equipment from my astrophotography equipment. I also purchased another Canon Digital Camera with 5 zoom lenses & other related accessories (memory cards, batteries, etc) for daytime wildlife/nature photography.

I plan on adding photos showing all the stuff I can pack into one of these bags when I get the chance. Ape Case Pro Backpack SLR/Video Camera Case ACPRO2000

I have had the Ape Case Pro Backpack for about six months. I pack (3) Canon camera bodies with battery grips, (3) lenses, a flash unit, extra batteries and accessories.

The bag fits and protects everything very well. The only problem I've had is the top seam started to separate. I brought the bag to an upholstery shop and they sewed it up as good as new.

Other than not being able to handle the shear weight of all the equipment it is designed to handle, the bag has been extremely reliable and I couldn't live without it. Shooting over 30,000 images per month, I need to be prepared for whatever my assignments require, sometimes on a moments notice.

Quality is high, heavy-duty designed for and internals are very convenient to be arranged and adapted for camera, lenses, chargers, etc. In small planes it will not fit in the top compartment, I would no check-in this bag with my equipment inside.

It worth's to be used, many pockets, quite heavy but it is due to the great protection it offers; for my SLR (Nikon D80), lenses and lap-top it pays back, too much money to risk just, better to carry slightly heavy than loosing every thing because of using lighter bag.

I searched a long time before deciding on this product. It has tons of room and features. Being modular, you can fit any combination of lens and cameras. Plus, it holds a 15" laptop with room to spare. It is well padded and has a rain fly that hides away in the bottom of the pack. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a rugged and versatile camera backpack.

First off, I don't give many 5 star reviews, or 1 star reviews for that matter. I believe few things are worthy of either.

First, my only real "cons" for this backpack/suitcase.

1) It is HUGE! I didn't expect it to be quite this large, but I am personally glad it is.

I put con in question marks because there is the 1800 for a smaller case, and this doesn't make itself out to be a small case.

As far as the 4000 goes, the only difference is it adds the roller which is 70 bucks????? Kind of a rip off for the upgraded model.

2) It is also hard to get into, but that is also a good thing b/c of the protection of your equipment. You just need to make sure that you are aware of it beforehand. Get a sling if you want quick entry from lowenpro or caselogic if you want that and then pack it in here.

For anyone out there that is looking for more room, remember that you don't need a whole lot more size than a regular backpack.

What you really need is the extra depth. Once your lenses and stuff can go vertical, you pretty much double your room.

So, I would say for a dedicated camera bag for anyone other than a pro, the 1800 should be good enough.

If you have a lot of gear and want to throw some extra stuff in there too, then go with this guy.

As far as taking it on a plane, I would say that you would technically have to check it at the gate when you board.

I'm not saying you couldn't get it on, but it IS over the carry on size limit. If you are on a smaller 3-4 seat per isle plane, you may not even get it in the stow bin.

Now for the pros.

1) It is HUGE! Isn't that great, it's a pro and a con. :)

2) I thought the yellow insides was a bit gimmicky, but it actually is really nice. Your stuff just pops out at you. It makes a world of difference from my old bag.

3) This bag will protect all of your gear. The main bag comes out and it very tightly secured in place with velcro. This bag alone has enough padding to protect your gear. Then, you put that bag in the main bag which has even more protection all around.

4) Storage Everywhere! There are essentially 3 fronts to this thing, and they all have their own storage cubbies with plenty of zippers and segregation. You can store a tripod on the bottom, or the foldout tripod caddy.

. . . . . I have my Canon EOS 60D, 3 lenses (18-135, 70-200, and a 50), a cheap video camera with underwater protection case (in seperate spots), my Canon Vixia HF 10, wide and telephoto lens to add on to it, all the cables and gear and extra batteries for everything, hdmi cable, and a flash in here. The main compartment is about 80% full and the rest of the bag is pretty much empty.

5) Integrated rain cover. It actually took me about 5 minutes to find the rain cover in the bottom of the bag. It is made so well, the zipper was completely hidden. This was one of the many reasons I bought this. I know that eventually, I would take out or loose a non integrated cover.

6) Seals up tight. All the zippers are very well covered. I would feel comfortable with this in a light rain for a fair amount of time and there are still 2 separate layers for water to get through anyway.

7) Laptop storage area which I also like because it has a thick protection sleeve for both sides of the laptop which serve as even more protection for your gear.

8) Misc. This thing has little loops and buckles everywhere to add stuff on to it, and it is as comfortable as can be expected for a bag of this size with the shoulder strap and waist straps.

In short, if you need a very large bag that will protect your gear, then get this guy. - Ape - Slr Bag - Photography - Slr Backpack'

Whirlpool Water Filter - pur, water filter

This is advertised as a "Whirlpool" 1/4 turn filter but it fits all 1/4 turn filters including Kenmore side-by-side models. I have been paying $30+ for Kenmore's 9010 filter and this filter is an exact replacement.

Is a less expensive replacement for whirlpool filter #4396510 and appears to filter the same contaminants.

Original Whirlpool filter label claims: NSF/ANSI Certified against standard 42 for Chlorine taste & odor; particulate reduction class 1; certified against ANSI standard 53 for Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-Dichlor., Toxaphene 2, Asbestos, Cysts, Turbidity, & Altrazine.

PUR replacement filter label claims: tested and certified against standard #42 and #53. Carton specifically mentions Chlorine taste/odor, Lead, Sediment, p-Dichlor., Benzene.

I'm always a little afraid to order substitute brands, but the price and the picture of the Pur Filter product gave me a little more confidence to give it a try. It took a little long to get delivered than I expected, but once here it fit my Kitchenaid Side-By-Side Refrigerator perfectly and was easy to install. Would recommend this replacement product to others.

Since PUR filters were the highest rated in my Consumer Reports, I decided to give this a try. I was pleased to see that the Sears filter I removed from my Kenmore side by side is made by PUR!!! Basically the same filter, only $15 less.

Another reviewer mentioned the cost of shipping but I got free shipping since it cost $25. A very good buy and still working great 4 months later.

Unlike the review below that states "Fits all Quarter turn refridgerators", this filter DOES NOT FIT LG Refridgerators quarter turn. The filter is too short and the connection head is too big.

Luckily Amazon was awesome enough to refund me, and I am stuck buying the expensive manufacture brand.

The pur filter is great in price and researched function though.... - Refrigerator Accessories - Pur - Water Filter - Whirlpool Water Filter'

Xoom Accessories

I pre-ordered this cover for my Xoom after looking at the other covers offered on Amazon and not finding one that seemed to work with the Xoom just perfectly. I had to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive and it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!

The quality of the leather is exceptional. The Xoom fits inside the cover just right - not too tight or too loose. There is an opening for everything you need on the tablet itself from charging, to power and volume, to camera. The stitching is very good quality.

The two things I was concerned about when ordering this was if the Velcro would be strong enough to keep the Xoom inside (especially when in portrait position) and the stand - from the pictures it didn't look very sturdy or well designed. First, the Velcro is excellent. It has enough hold to keep the Xoom firmly in whatever position you want it to be. Once in place, your Xoom won't move unless you release the hold. The stand on the back of the cover is actually excellent. It is much sturdier than it looks in the pictures. I found it great that it has a strong magnet to keep it closed when not needed. There is a ribbon that keeps the stand from sliding open more than you want. I've been able to adjust the angle of the stand and have no problems with it staying in place. The stand itself is thick and strong.

The entire cover is sleek and professional looking. It was worth the wait and very much worth the money. I am very happy with it. It is now my favorite accessory I've bought for my Xoom, with the keyboard being my next favorite. I expect it will last a long time and be the protection I need since I carry the Xoom around with me everywhere. When I place my keyboard on top of the open cover, it's the perfect height for typing comfortably.

I believe that this is the best option out there so far to cover your Xoom! Too bad Motorola didn't think of all the little details when designing their cover. And thank heavens this company took the time to do just that! rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Black) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Motorola XOOM Android Tablet

I initially preordered this case before any reviews had come out so I was skeptical at first. After receiving this case however, I could not have expected anything more. My Xoom fits very nicely inside of the case as the interior detaches from the portfolio allowing for even more flexibility. All of the holes in the case are cut out at very generous junctions allowing for full functionality of the device while still being protected. The best part of this case has to be the kick-stand that allows you to set the device at different angles instead of constantly being required to hold it. This has allowed for many of the type-heavy apps to become more useful as I know longer have to hold it with the same hand that I am attempting to type something with.

All in all, I am very pleased with this case and would purchase from this company again in the future.

looks like leather, feels like leather, smells like leather.....sooooo I guess it is leather...great case for my Xoom. Solid construction, good fit and ALL ports are open without removing case. Stand on back of case great to set on desk at 45 degree angle without removing case.....

Couldn't have asked for a better case. The xoom fits perfectly into the leather sleave, and the entire case is put together very well. The Velcro on the back of the sleave allows for viewing in landscape and portrait. Even when the xoom is enclosed in the zippered case it can be charged due to the duel zippers that allows for a gap to insert the charging plug. The only downside I can find is the fact that the speakers are blocked when the sleave is resting in the zippered case.Even then the sound quallity is affected very little.

The Roocase for Xoom works well as a portfolio type case for the Xoom. It's made well, and made for the Xoom diminsions. The con that I have with it is it's functionality. The inner case that is meant to fit over the Xoom itself slides down over the backward facing camera, and is extremely bulky. The most annoying part is that you must remove the inner case from the cover to turn on the Xoom because of the location of the power button. That means that you rip the inner cover off the velcro to turn on the Xoom then place it back into the cover. I don't use the inner case. I use the rubber mold that came with my Xoom and put it inside the Roocase cover.

It is much better than the Motorola case in many aspects, but I found the following problems that irritated me enough to return it and try another slim leather case sold on amazon.

I will clarify that I bought the grey one, which has had a known issue with some units with the velco not working properly and the manufacturer is correcting. Manufacturer contacted me and clarified that the black case does not have the velcro issue and offered to give me a black one as an exchange. Very impressed by the customer service quality. Since I already ordered another one, I declined the generous offer.

So in general (black or grey):

- The side leather covering is too wide, it covers right up to the edge of the screen, which is prefect for protection, but when I am using the browser in full screen mode and want to invoke the "Quick Controls" it makes it a little difficult.

- The flap that props case up at 45 degrees is not strong enough, it bows under weight of the case + Xoom and sometimes flip shut, dropping the case flat.

- The velcro at the back of the inner case (circular patches) are strong, a little too big and awkward against the fingers, specially if you want to use it as a reader.

- It is rather bulky. Probably because it is built with good quality leather and good quality zipper, etc, that adds considerable bulk to the whole thing. If you want to enjoy th slimness of the Xoom, not the right case. Some people like the protection on a $600 or $800 item, some people prefer the skinniness of the Xoom, to each their own.

On the plus side:

- The case is built well and if you are going to carry only your xoom, a few business cards, a pen (or stylus) and 2 sheets of paper, it is great. Protects the screen very well. Though I don't know if it is TSA approved. I have a neoprene case that I have been using prior to this one and I don't have to take the Xoom out of the neoprene to go through airport security. Not sure if the leather one would be allowed.

- The leather, zipper switching of highest quality I have seen on any case

- The color quality is great.

- The xoom can be placed at all 4 angles 0/90/180/360 such that for charging I can just open a slit on the zipper.

- Definitely worth the price.'

Advanced Elements - kayaks, inflatable kayaks

I bought a Convertible last year and used it twice, once on a lake and once on a river trip. It paddles fast and tracks straight and has plenty of leg and storage room with just me in it. The back seat was a little hard to recline in during lazy stretches of river but I got fairly comfortable. My chief complaints are the weight, around 60lbs, and the need to pull the floor out and the shell off to get it dried properly and then put it back together and deflate and fold it. But it's obviously a serious, heavy duty piece of equipment that should prove very durable and enjoyable if I don't throw out my back lugging it down to the water.

Edit--Two years and a dozen trips later and I'm still happy with this kayak. It's comfort and stability compared to canoes I float with make river trips doubly enjoyable as I fish out the gear floating downstream and ask how cold the water is while people right their canoes.

On a sandy shore I once removed the spreader bag and seats and put my sleeping bag inside for a cozy, though coffin-like, airbed. Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Convertible Inflatable Kayak

We just purchased this kayak plus accessories and went on several paddles (river, large lakes, small lakes) in the Eastern Sierra. Here's a little review of each part we got (minus PFDs and paddles):

*The boat is great -- comfortable, sturdy, handled well, pretty easy to set up. It was a pain to clean at the end of our trip mostly because it's hard to dry it out well without fully disassembling it more than you otherwise ever have to. It would be more convenient to have a solid kayak for ease of getting going, but this one fits in the back of our subaru, in our garage, etc. It seems more versatile than other more raft-like inflatable kayaks which seem more appropriate to rivers (but I don't really know).

*The pump -- we got the Advanced Elements hand pump with gauge. The gauge was very useful for determining how much air to put in since it's not always intuitive. The dual-action hand pump is pretty fast and effective. We ended up replacing it because after a hot day in the car the air in the pump pushed the handle out, which was then pushed on by something else in our car, and it melted in an immovable position. Fortunately the brand-free knockoff at the local Rite-Aid was the exact same pump down to nearly matching packaging. So you could save some money by just starting with that.

*The optional zip-on deck: we used this sometimes, not with spray skirts but as a splash deck. Without it the person in back gets a lot of spray from the front person's paddle, and has no sun coverage on the legs. It makes almost no difference for the person in front.

*The stiffening bar: we used this on about half of our trips. It improves tracking, but we didn't have much trouble without it either. Probably most useful for travel on rivers with current or large lakes. The one pain is that it goes under the floor so you have to pull out the seats and floor to put it in and take it out each time you use it. Without it in you can just deflate the kayak, fold the whole thing in half or thirds and stuff it in the back of the car.

*Other: we did not use the bilge pump or kayak sponge we got because you float so high in an inflatable you don't really swamp with water (and you're at no risk of submerging even if you take on some water). But I suppose it's good to have these things. A tiny clip-on dry bag is a nice addition to this boat since the seat-back zipper compartments are pretty useless.

This kayak is the best of both worlds- storable and usable. Yes, it is a bit heavy at 56lbs, but tracks well, is faster than you expect, and is a really good boat. Spent a week on Frenchman's bay in Maine in it and it handles wind, chop, and tides, and tracks very well. Not as knife cutting as a hardshell, but unless you're on a weeklong, open water, island hopping paddle, you won't notice. Extremely durable. Landed on beaches of mussel shells and rock weed and not a scratch.

Everyone came up to it skeptical and to a person walked away, if not impressed, then accepting that it is an actual kayak, not a pool toy. A few asked me if it was a Klepper until they got right up to it.

If you can't store a hardshell or want an extra kayak that you can throw in the trunk for friends, this is a great boat. For the extra fee you can also check it as luggage if you want to paddle in far off locales.

Time to inflate: 35 minutes the first time, 20 every time thereafter.

Time to deflate and pack (not including drying): 25 minutes.

What fits in the bag: Kayak, deck cover, seats, and paddles (4 section).

Must haves: The deck covers which tighten the line a bit and make it a really comfortable paddle.

****EDIT****

This spring I caught a really sharp rock on a Virginia river. When we took the kayak out of the water I noticed a gash in the first layer of the bow of the kayak. No damage deeper, just the protective outer cover. I contacted AE to inquire about a solution. They immediately sent me a patch kit for free! Unbelievable customer service and still an amazing boat. If you're on the fence, jump. This boat rocks.

P.S. We took this with friends and it took the same amount of time for us to inflate as it did to unload and set up their kayak with their family gear.

I purchased this a month ago, and it has seen quite a bit of action. 10 couples with children; my 75 yr old mother and her older sister; my wife and I noodling around a small lake with a camera. You wanna talk to loons? Paddle up to some otters? Get one of these. I just bought another one for my Mom.

Durability does not seem to be an issue. Valves most satisfying. Recommend same brand paddles: a joy to propel, with little wiggle or drift. Weight concern overblown if you aren't going to portage. - Inflatable Kayaks - Kayaks - Inflatable Kayak - Boats'

Thermaltake - thermaltake, frio

I'd been hitting 90C with the stock Intel cooler that came with my i7-920, and running into occasional BSODs due to heat. After installing the Frio, the CPU core temps have never exceeded 50C. That's a FORTY degree Celsius decrease in operating temperature and the box is much more stable.

The fans are quite a bit louder than the stock cooler, but being able to overclock the CPU and FSB speeds makes up for it. Just crank the speakers up a little bit and you don't even notice.

Installation was easy, but you do need access to the back of the motherboard, so I'd recommend installing this at build time instead of retrofitting later like I did. Thermaltake Frio Overclocking Universal CPU Cooler CLP0564

Crank this baby up with both fans running at 3/4 speed and it sounds like a turboprop airplane starting up it's engines.

Running at 50% there's absolutely no noise, except one can feel the heat being pumped out the back of the case. My quadcore Phenom processor was running game apps at roughly 60 - 70 degrees Celcius with the standard issue heatsink and fan.

Upgraded to the Frio and Arctic Silver paste, now I'm running at 25 degrees Celcius - crank this baby up to 100% with both fans installed and the temp doesn't exceed 16 degrees Celcius. This is major cooling wihtout going liquad!!!

Installation was an absolute breeze and the instructions were detailed and properly set out. kit comes complete with mountings for all the latest CPU's and no additional items needs to be purchased.

Great product at a great price!!!

This thing is great... I went from a stock cpu cooler 98c to this beast. Now I dont ever go past 45c Fans are very loud at full speed but they do a great job even if you have them turned down. I looked at alot of different CPU coolers before going with this one and I found that for the price and cooling power this one is definetly the right fit for an i7 build. Make sure you have room in your tower. It fit great in my Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower.

I built my first PC recently in a Thermaltake Level 10 GT case with an Intel Core i7 2600K, ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard, ASUS GTS450 graphics card, Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1200 power supply. It is a good thing that my case is huge, it took all of it to fit this beast of a cooler. Compared to the dinky cooler that came from Intel, this one is a giant.

But it works like a charm. Because I am not a huge power user, the fan runs really low speed all the time. My CPU never goes above 25 degrees C. I installed both fans, even though it looked like I could get away with one. The air blowing out of my case is cold!

The only thing I would caution about is to use this fan in a full sized case. Other than that go for it, the fan really does what it is supposed to do.

PS The reason I labelled this "Centerpiece of my PC" is that when you look into the case through the window or open the door, the first thing you see is the large fan!

This cooler is very effective I have an Alienware Area 51 and had no problem installing this,I had to remove the motherboard to use the hardware that came with it,they thought of everything when they included the brackets for all the different processors, you just match the hardware with your motherboard and then you are done,I only need one fan so I have one for when this one goes if you need more cooling at a good price this is worth a try I am happy with it and if you overclock you will be happier

If you're considering this item you probably already know its an effective cooler and that its large. That said, I would only consider purchasing this item if you have a full tower case - it simply would not fit into my mid-tower case. The product is 161mm tall (6.34 in) so please measure accordingly from your motherboard socket, taking your processor into account. I'd also add that I had a secondary clearance issue with my motherboard in that the my Ripjaw RAM and my Northbridge also had heatsinks that were tall enough to also pose a clearance concerns. The footprint on this is 139mmx119mm (5.47inx4.68in) so you should probably also take this into account, especially with a i5/P67 board as they typically have larger Northbridge cooling.

Good cooler. The stock AMD cooler for my QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 965 would get loud and vibrate my whole case. Under loads with this cooler I no longer have these problems. My only complaint is the fans prevent me from putting a DIMM in the first slot if the memory has an extended heat sink. Other than that it's been great

PROS:

Build:

Nforce 750a sli mb

Amd BE 6400 x2 3.0 only oced to 3.4 (stable at 3.7 with max fan speed, reduced to reduce noise level) :)

Xfx nvidia 450 gpu

Full HAF 932 tower

Thermaltake 850 psu

Windows7 64b ulti

8gb corsair 1066 ram

24in Hanspree 1080p monitor

and a couple of Green 12in light bars...nice green glow in the dark

I had doubt about the performance reported by some of the review I read before buying this item, but after careful installation. I WAS BLOWN AWAAAAYYYYY! The cpu temp dropped from 42c idle to 28c idle and never goes over 37c +-2c at full load for hours of game play. Installed in a Full HAF 932 tower. PSU on top with only the preinstalled front, side, and rear fan( removed top fan). I actually looked up to see if the ceiling fan was on(it was not)cause of the cool air around the case.

CONS:

Makes me want to build another pc :) not a con but hey

Other Thoughts:

By the way...I have the cpu cooler fans set at lowest speed which in my case is around 1100rpm. Glad I bought this before I went watercooling. - Frio - Thermaltake'
