Kitchenaid Accessories - kitchenaid grinder, meat grinder

Given all the concerns about e-coli and mad cow, we decided last year to start grinding our own beef and lamb. This grinder does the job perfectly. We grind right into the short round Ziplock boxes (about a hamburger's worth), which go into the basement freezer, and then we turn out the frozen "hockey pucks" onto a plate to defrost in the microwave, or right into the pot for bolognese sauce or sloppy joes. ("Honey, would you bring me up a couple of hockey pucks for dinner?)Assembly is easy and cleanup is easy (put a slice of bread through after the meat to make it even easier, or grind up an onion if you're making meatloaf anyway). The knife and both plates store inside the screw cap, so I don't worry about losing them (though KitchenAid sells replacements, as does goodmans-dot-net). The grinder even comes with a handy wrench-thingy to help take it apart if it tightens up.The knife and plates are not stainless (which wouldn't hold an edge), so you do have to dry them off right after washing, but I put everything, including the wooden stomper, right in the dishwasher, and after more than a year nothing has had a problem.[...] - this isn't an industrial tool! You can't set the mixer speed above three or four when grinding (less if the meat is gristly), and you've got to cut up the meat small enough to fit in the feed tube (the instructions say one-inch cubes, but long strips work too). Treat this right and it will return the favor.About the only thing that would make this more perfect is a cylindrical brush to clean out the horizontal and vertical shafts, since the dishwasher spray can't really completely reach both, and the horizontal shaft has a screw thread that tends to catch crud (Right now I'm using a folded sponge, and the abovementioned bread slice). KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers

I've used this attachment more times than I ever thought I would. I've used it to prepare food items for my family as well as food items for crowds as large as 200 and regardless of what it is I've been making, this attachment has rolled through it without complaint. In combination with other pieces such as the sausage stuffer or the fruit attachments, you may well find that this single attachment stays on your machine the longest. I am absoultely stunned at how easy it is to put together and how simple it is to get wonderfully ground items out of it. I've had no trouble grinding any cut of meat (marbled or lean), type of meat (venison, beef, pork, chicken), or state of meat (cooked or raw). Things like chickpeas also get ground just the way I like them. The two, differently sized grinding plates give you just what you need in texture. My biggest pleasure in using this attachment is during hunting season when my husband brings home more than one deer. Venison burger meat and sausage processing never went faster. No more late nights with a hand-crank grinder! When you're done, there's nothing simpler in the cleanup. Nothing seems to stick to the plastic (plus, it's dishwasher safe!) and the metal pieces wash up quickly by hand. Even the little wooden stomper cleans well (and I've felt lost without it when I couldn't find it during sausage making). I think this attachment is the easiest to use of all of the ones I've tried.I'll never regret the purchase of this attachment.

I work in the food industry, so I'm unfortunately comparing this to its commercial counterparts. If you have small batches of meat to be ground at a time, this grinder is so much better than the crank grinders and gets the job done in a quarter of the time. I still use it, but here's what I don't like about it:

The blade is junk. It doesn't cut the meat at all, and is more prone than ever to getting silver skin and grizzle wrapped around it, forcing you to stop and clean it regularly throughout the proccess. More so than most other grinders.

Stomper: They call this a stomper? Are you serious??? I have the new model that does not come with a wooden stomper, but instead has a plastic contraption that acts both as a wrench and a stomper. It's not solid in design, and is quite smaller than the hole so it tends to pull more meat up when you pull it out than it pushes down to begin with.

Since there is no gasket that comes with this and everything is plastic, the seals aren't real tight, and meat tends to squirt out around the plate quite often. This isn't a real big deal unless you're looking for a specific texture, as for sausage.

Horrible grind. Based on all the other faults with this machine, you'll never reach that beautiful solid grind that you see with commercially ground meat. It's more of a squishy mess, even with the large dye plate.

Good luck stuffing sausage. I spent thirty minutes fighting this machine to get ground meat into the casing with very little luck. I managed one link in that amount of time, gave up, and immediately ordered a Grizzly sausage stuffer (which is absolutely amazing, but that's another review).

I am very happy with the ease of clean up. One of those bristle wands that you use for scrubbing cups works great for getting in the grooves of the attachment as well as in the holes of the grinder plate. Just don't forget to hand dry the metal parts immediately or you'll have rust everywhere. I store all my parts in a zip lock back with some rice to keep them together and dry.

So if you just need something small to make a quick batch of burgers or meatloaf with very little effort, this is a great deal. But if you are trying to make large amounts of sausage of the same quality that you would find in a meat market, you may want to keep looking.

I bought this attachment at the same time I bought two or three other attachments, and this is the one I use all of the time. I found that grinding meats to be very useful. I have a mother who is 88 and she prefers everything tender and juicy. So unless it is cooked until it is super tender, she doesn't eat it. With the Kitchen Aid FGA that is all solved. For example I buy chicken in large quantities when it is on sale, and grind it up. Adding shredded rye bread, some Italian seasoned bread crumbs , rosemary, and oregano in the mix, and I make a hamburger(chicken)-meat loaf, or meat balls that are tender. Without the food grinder, I would have to buy preground meat. Their are those who find that the best way to buy chicken is whole, that way you can inspect the whole bird. By buying parts, they are able to cut out the unsightlies, and sell the parts. With preground meat that is even more of a concern. With the Food Grinder attachment, you have the option of handling that item whichever way you may choose. Clean up is a snap. It almost falls apart, disassembly is that easy. Cleans up easily with some soap and warm water, or by putting it into the dishwasher. The cutting blades are handwashed. They appear to be high strength steel, and I am concerned about them getting lost in the wash, and degrading the finish. They clean up in only a minute. The rest of it goes into the dishwasher. Even though the FGA is made out of plastic on the outside, the internal components are metal. It is very durable, and works without a snag. No jams, no problems. It attaches easily to the front of your Kitchen Aid stand mixer, and sits very securely. I expect it will last for a very long period of time. - Meat Grinder - Grinder - Food Grinder - Kitchenaid Grinder'

Educational Books For Children

This is one in a series of workbooks, each of which offers an abundance of learning activities, exercises, and games that are presented with superb production values. Appropriate to the given age level, much of the material focuses on basic subjects such natural science, mathematics, history, and social studies while enabling children to strengthen their reading, reasoning, and writing skills. The editors of Brain Quest believe that:

"All kids are smart - though they learn at their own speed

All kids learn best when they're having fun

All kids deserve the chance to reach their potential - given the tools they need, there's no limit how far they can go!"

I agree, while presuming to add that children will learn more and have more fun meanwhile if, when completing various exercises, adults are involved. As a parent of four and a grandparent of ten, I can personally attest to the pleasure an adult will also have. Each volume in the series is a WORK book. Exercises are completed with crayolas or pencils on the page on which it appears. Correct answers are provided. One caveat: Resist the temptation to control the learning process a child completes an exercise.

This volume, Grade 1 (ages 6-7), was written by Lisa Trumbauer, with Betsy Rogers serving as consulting editor. It is worth noting that Rogers was 2003 National Teacher of the Year. The material consists of organized curriculum-based exercises that help children to gain an understanding of phonics, spelling, vocabulary, language arts, reading, writing, sequencing and sorting, math skills, addition and subtraction, shapes and measurement, time and money, social studies, and science. Also included are more than 150 stickers, an all-new Brain Quest Mini-Card Deck, and a fold-out "100 Creatures" poster.

Here is a representative selection of exercises:

Cat and Snake

Say the word for each picture.

Draw a line from the pictures with the short a sound to the cat.

Draw a line from the pictures with a long a sound to the snake. (Page 37)

Time to Rhyme!

The words on the page all rhyme with brag.

Write each rhyming word [tag, bag, wag, and flag] next to the correct picture. (88)

Doggy Diary

Complete each sentence with a word from the word box. [bark, happy, stick, Gus, and fetch]

My name is....

I like to....

I fetch a....

I like to...

I am a. ...dog. (142-143)

Connect the Dots!

Connect the dots to make each shape.

Color each shape the same color as the dots. (229)

Drop It in the Bin

Look at the picture on each bin. [PLASTIC, PAPER, and CANS]

Draw a line from all the things you can recycle to the correct bin. (290)

Each of the volumes in this series (pre-K through Grade 4) would be an excellent book for parents, grandparents, and others to purchase and then share with a child at an appropriate stage of her or his development. No doubt there are precocious children who will prefer more challenging material associated with later grades but I think it would be a mistake to rush the learning process. Worse yet, to indicate little interest in it.

Congratulations to the Workman Publishing Company and especially to the editors of Brain Quest. How pleased they must be to know that their materials have already helped to nourish so many young minds and to delight so many young hearts and, fortunately, will continue to do so for the development of other children in months and years to come Brain Quest Workbook: Grade 1

This workbook's graphics, paper quality and size give it a stimulating, well-made feel. Most pages, though, have only 3-5 problems. The oversized pages could have packed in many more exercises. My daughter can't build up a lot of momentum because she has to learn a new set of instructions every few minutes as she completes pages and moves on. I would have liked more repetition in the form of more exercises per page.

I bought this in hopes that it would work well with what my daughter is learning in school. She's struggling a little in 1st grade and I was looking for something that would help. Boy did I luck out the first try!!! Not only is this complimenting the lessons from her school but she loves to work in it. She does about 5-8 pages at a time because she doesn't want to stop. I love the reading and phonics section. The way they have it broken down really is helpful if you have a struggling reader. There is a section in spelling that has the middle sounds of words missing and I haven't found workbooks that include that. Beginning and ending sounds yes but it's great that this book includes the middle letters instead of assuming your child "get's it". I highly recommend this workbook if you have a student that has a difficult time focusing and needs that little extra confidence boost on being able to figure things out on their own. While its not an "easy" workbook it challenges them enough to not only help their self-esteem but also their skills as a student.

I got this for my kindergartner, who's a bit ahead in reading, but right on track in math. She loved it, and did 5-10 pages a day fairly regularly all the way through the language arts sections. The pages that required more writing were harder for her - she only chose to do a page or two of those at a time.

Subtraction, time, and money were all over her head. She didn't have any time with telling time to the hour or the initial money worksheets, but couldn't move on to the half-hours or to adding coins, or to subtracting without manipulatives.

Once the book arrived, my 5 year dove into it and started immediately to do the exercies. He did 4 pages right away, and without much instruction. The book has clear exercies, that were fun to do (according to my son).

I like it as it has diverse exercies, from phonics to math. A great supplement to his school learning.'

Diamond Points - rotary tool accessories, jewelry making

This set of 20 bits costs less than one high-quality diamond bit from other sources, and the bits did the job for which they were purchased.

Used them to drill two 1/8 inch diameter holes in non-tempered window glass. This must be done slowly to avoid overheating and possibly fracturing the glass. Used several different bits to change shapes in the hope of making it go faster. When done, the holes were fine and all of the bits still seemed to have their abrasive surfaces.

I've read elsewhere that a high-quality diamond bit will last for perhaps three holes like these, and that it takes about two minutes to make one hole. Well, it took about 30 minutes per hole, but more than half of that time was spent pausing to let the glass and bit cool off. Since all of the bits still have diamond grit on them, it seems likely that they'll be able to make several more holes before wearing out.

NOTE: Tempered glass probably will shatter if drilled. This window didn't have a "tempered" logo in the corner and looked normal when viewed through polarized sunglasses. Pro-Quality 20-Piece Diamond-Point Bit Set for Rotary Tool - Glass, Stone, Ceramic

These generic diamond point bits work great on my dremel rotary tool and the price for 20 of them is cheaper than buying 1 bit of the dremel brand. I use them for engraving on glass and they have been great.

One of these diamond tipped bits will run you between $8.00 - $10.00 at any retail or hardware store. This set has every bit for any project you could think of and the power to handle almost any material. It is definately worth the money. Works great on glass, metal, and stone.

I am very very satisfied.

The drill bits worked fine on soft materials such as seashells as long as I didn't put too much pressure on the bit. But on harder materials such as ceramic or stone, the diamond coating wore off very quickly, rendering the bit useless. And yes, I did use lubricant.

These bits were purchased primarily for drilling sea glass for jewelry making. Since this was my first attempt at such a project, I didn't want to spend a lot of money experimenting.

I'm still trying these out, but so far, so good. I like having the variety to play with. I am using these with a Dremel and they work great. I have no complaints. - Bob Tool - Jewelry Making - Dremel - Rotary Tool Accessories'

Hiking Equipment - survival, emergency blankets

Reflective emergency blankets of all sorts have been around for quite some time. Their advantage over a conventional blanket is that they are small and lightweight, easily tossed into a glovebox or a grab-and-go bag. Emergency blankets will only keep you warm if they are large enough to fully wrap yourself up in them, preventing cold air from getting in and heat from escaping. The bag types (like this one) are definitely better than conventional tarp-like emergency blankets.

Here are a few suggestions regarding their use:

First, don't lay directly on the cold ground. Believe me when I say that the mylar bag won't be enough to keep you warm. It is much better to lay on top of an insulative material or structure - anything can help, from old clothes to a bed of pine needles. Second, if you're clothing is damp, take it off before getting in the bag. Some people prefer to lay in these bags nude (or in their underwear), but I find that a light layer of clothing is preferrable since it acts to insulate you from the cold surface of the bag. Third, if possible, use this bag in conjunction with regular blankets or a sleeping bag. This will make a huge difference, because once again, they insulate you from the outside world. Fourth, you need to figure out a way to secure the bag up around your head. Many people tape them up to leave a small face hole to peek through. Any hole is a leak path for your heat, so you ideally want it quite small. If you leave the top of the bag open, you will lose a great deal of heat. There are products similar to these that are designed with a drawstring to close up the top except for a small face hole. They are more expensive, but also easier to use.

Hope this helps!

Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.

Written by Arthur Bradley, author of the "Handbook to Practical Disaster Preparedness for the Family." Emergency Sleeping Bag, Survival Bag, Emergency Zone® Brand, Reflective Blanket

Bought several of these to hand out to friends. While they look flimsy they are quite difficult to puncture. The conductive metalized surface is on the inside. In bright light you can see through one. These are so much warmer than a blanket made of the same material (I have both). The bag is about the size of a 'big hand' and can easily fit in the car, tackle box, even a coat pocket. They are very reflective and would be easy to spot from the air, just 'crunch them up' so there are many different reflecting angles. When they arrived, I unpacked one and tried it at 70 degrees F and became too warm in about 2 min... Once you unfold this thing, you will never get it back in the bag so I use a 'vacuum seal' food bag for used ones. Highly recommend everyone have one for each person. Keep a couple in the car, boat, camper, house, etc.

2010 FOLLOW UP:My lightweight sleeping bag was getting cold so I put my 'normal sleeping bag' INSIDE one of these, it made quite a difference...

If you're not familiar with these things, you're missing out. They are great at keeping you warm, fold up into a very compact size(about the size of a wallet) and can be used in many situations, mostly of an emergency/survival nature. In addition to being used as a blanket, it's intended use, it can also be used as a way of signaling for help.

All in all, with as cheap as these things are and as much help they can provide to you in an emergency(not to mention how little room they take to store), everyone should have a handful of them in storage "just in case" they ever need them for anything.

The item is not very tear prone, and really does work. What I would really recommend it for is an outer layer on a light-weight sleeping bag; for those traveling ultra-lite. In this case it does provide a modest amount of extra heat (which you will feel very quickly) to your sleeping bag--certainly enough to make the difference between a comfortable or uncomfortable night of modest cold. There is not a slit or zipper down the side, so once inside you are wrapped around in it, and that is that. You will also have to get use to the "crinkle" sound as you move around in it. The item is fairly roomy, and is quite a bit larger than many sleeping bags--certainly the "mummy" type. Again, a nice item to place on the outside of your normal sleeping bag. Also, if your sleeping bag is not waterproof, this item will certainly help with that.

Unlike the other reviews posted here, I actually used this product in a real survival situation. I almost died of hypothermia. The product is nothing more than a cheap, thin, plastic bag with the silver reflective surface SPRAY PAINTED ON! After a long, cold, wet night, when the sun finally came up, I realized I had this silver paint all over me and my gear. The bag had ripped in several places. I was freezing. If you rely on this product to save your life, IT WON'T! Consider yourself warned: DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!

There are so many of these reflective mylar blankets/bags out there, there's nothing new to report here. It does fine for the intended purpose. I just wanted to add a slightly different perspective. Rather than wait for the end of the world, or getting lost in the woods I plan to carry one of these in my luggage from now on. Due to weather I got stranded ... not even sure where it was ... maybe Phoenix airport last year. Got in after midnight. No flights out. All the hotels were full with similarly stranded people. So along with a thousand other people I slept in the airport. By the time I got my checked bag all the good spots in the terminal were taken, so I slept on the floor under an exhibit of the art of Chuck Jones. Would have loved to have and one of these blankets with me then.

Kept me warm when I needed it most in freezing temperatures(wraps around the entire sleeping bag)...makes a krinkling noise which might annoy fellow campers...the sleeping bag gets damp because the tube keeps all the moisture inside, so you hang it up to dry out the next day. I would recommend this product. - Camping - Backpacking - Survival - Emergency Blankets'

Video Game Console - playstation move, video games

MOVE VS. OTHERS :)

Ever since the launch of Slim, the PS3 has been undertaking a quiet revolution or... could it be the console's midlife crisis? :) Here's what happened recently - and I will only note the more important developments going 12 months back (writing this in Oct., 2010):

- NetFLIX streaming, now disc-less, 1080p, 5.1 surround sound

- Much larger disc (this one is triple the size of the original Slim)

- Move

- 3D gaming

- Blu-ray 3D

This is a lot of new 'stuff' for a 4 year old console. I am not going to go into bean-counting mode and compare the PS3 improvements with what we see at the other guys but, clearly there is a lot of life in the PS3 and a lot of what the PS3 has to offer today - 3D gaming, Blu-ray 3D - either cannot be duplicated or is unlikely to be implemented by other consoles of this generation.

WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU MAY NEED

Briefly, this is what you get in with this bundle and I will make it very short because there's a lot of info. at the Amazon page:

- PS3 Slim with...

* 320GB HDD - as far as I know, the largest hard disk a console has ever had. You CAN upgrade it to a 500GB if you want but 320GB should probably be enough. See PS3 Slim reviews for details and features

* Move controller, of course

* PlayStation Eye camera (must have for the Move to work)

* Sports Champions (Ping Pong is simply awesome, some of the games play much better with a second controller)

* A demo disc so you can see what Move can do for you (most of the demos can be downloaded from the PSN)

- DualShock 3 controller (rumble, motion sensitive)

- ONE USB wire mostly to charge the controllers

I marked with asterisks the items that come with the bundle are not included in the Slim 160GB package.

Depending on how you are planning to use the PS3, this is what you don't get but may end up buying eventually:

- HDMI cable for HD output (a component cable should work too but you can get a decent HDMI for $3-5 or so)

- One or more extra USB wires same as above, don't pay more than $2-3 for one

- One more Move Controller (some games will either require two controllers or will play better with two)

- One or two Navigation Controllers (you can use the DualShock in your left hand but it feels weird)

- Dedicated charger, especially if you have more than one Move controller or you also have a Navigation controller

- PS3 TV remote controller to use when watching movies

TO BUNDLE OR NOT TO BUNDLE

We got the bundle because we really needed a fresh console but, it turns out, if you already have a PlayStation 3 Eye camera all you need is the stand-alone Move controller to be able to play Move games. If you don't have the Eye then it's going to cost a little more but the general idea is that it's possible to ease yourself into the Move universe and possibly stop if you feel that the Move is not for you. However, if you get yourself hooked, the odds are that you are going to spend A LOT on extras, eventually - see above.

THE PS3 BUNDLE VS. OTHER OPTIONS

At the time I'm writing this you can get a Move-less, 160 GB PS3 for $100 less. In my view, it's probably worth buying this bundle even if you do NOT want the Move because you should be able to sell your brand-new Move controller ($49), the PS Eye ($30) and the Sports Champions ($40) game and make close to $100 in the process and you will STILL have a console with TWICE the disc capacity.

MY RATING

This bundle is probably the best PS3 deal ever - see my notes on how you could sell the Move stuff if you don't want it and still end up ahead. I've been a PS3 owner ever since the 60GB classic became available and I've been impressed with the PS3's reliability, versatility and its sheer power - and I've owned both 'classic' and 'slim' models, upgraded most, gave away a couple. In the end it's a matter of personal taste but the PS3 is increasingly the most popular 'gaming' or 'entertainment' implement in our household. And we DO own an Xbox too.

I will not go through the long list of PS3's features. It would be an exaggeration to say that it does 'everything' but, in my view, it does a lot more than the competition and it's doing it increasingly well. Agreed, features and capabilities do not come for free and sometimes they don't even come cheap (see my list of possible add-ons above) but I can't say that I have the feeling of being constantly nickeled and dimed when I upgrade my PS3. I will have no choice at this time but to order the extra Move and Motion controller from Sony but the charger, the larger discs I used to upgrade my old classic, all of the cables came or will come from third party vendors and even for the old SixAxis and the remote controller there were alternatives at the time I decided to buy the Sony-made ones. In addition, the 'basic' PS3 console can take you pretty far as it is and you can have a lot of fun without having to spend one extra penny.

To conclude, this bundle gets 5 stars:

- for being chuck-full of 'stuff' (controllers, game, huge hard disc)

- for being the most cost-effective PS3 deal at the time I am writing this (Sep. 17, 2010)

- for the PS3 being the most feature-rich, well-balanced console you can get these days

____________________________________________

Aug. 16, 2011 Note:

Quite a lot happened to the PS3 since I posted my review. A week or so ago Netflix became part of a new category named TV/Video Services with Hulu PLUS, Vudu HD Movies, NHL GameCenter Live and MLB.tv. I've had Netflix for quite a while and if Hulu adds a lot of movies show to what I'm getting from Netflix I may say goodbye to my satellite provider. Under the Music tab I can see now Qriocity. I believe there is a 6 months free trial but I'm a Pandora guy so I'm not sure I'll sign up. It's good to know it's there.

Oh and... funny coincidence. I just read that Sony cut $50 of all consoles sold in the US. I paid $499 for my first 60GB PS3 back in 2007 (came with 8 or 10 Blu-ray movies so it wasn't THAT bad a deal) and it's still one of our 2 PS3. Not even a hiccup after 4 years of gaming and movie viewing.

Belt Clips - tool pouch, tool holsters

Good product. Its made well. It has a large compartment for a cell phone and a smaller one for your leatherman. Two pen holders and the flashlight holder on the side.

One thing I liked was it has both a horizental belt clip and a horizental and vertical belt loop on it so you can easly use either method to attach the holder to you. So if you use the belt loop. you can have it sit parallel or vertical with the ground.

As for me, it was a little to bulky. It is roughly 3" wide by 6" tall and 3" deep. I have to do a lot of moblilty things in my job including running with tools on me. And this kept hitting my arm while it sat on my hip, and would bounce around alot.

Unless you do a whole bunch of running around, I wouldn't recomend it. But for every one else who wants something to house everthing neatly in one unit. It would be a good buy CLC Custom LeatherCraft 5-Pocket Cell Phone/Tool Holder - 1105

This product is a little too big for today's smaller cell units and too small for a cordless, or an Amprobe tool...But it fits my multitool, my folding lockblade knife and a handful of troubleshooting tools very well.

This is supposed to be a cell phone holder but we use them as tool pouches to hold telecommunications tools on our belts. This way the tools we need to splice cable and fix computers or telephones are right at hand. This pouch is perfect for that purpose. The only problem we have with them is they do wear out after about a year of almost daily use. This does keep us buying the product periodically. If you need to have small tools readily available this is perfect for the purpose.

I liked the clip on the front where you can add a pair of gloves or something like that. But the flashlight holder isn't big enough for my Surefire 5" flashlight. Total bummer! I guess they weren't kidding when they said MINI flashlight, mine is apparently a COMPACT flashlight and therefore too big. I was using the Bucket Boss Brand 54041 Double Barrel Tool Sheath before this, and I think I'll need to Frankenstein the two together in order to get something small that'll hold everything I need.

What would have been so bad if they had made the 'stretch flashlight holder' on the side accommodate more than just the mosy tiny, narrow, mini maglite-type flashlight holding AAA batteries. For 10 cents more in construction costs, they could have constructed it with a better, more strechable material to accomodate at least a decent-width AA flashlight. - Holsters - Tool Pouch - Tool Holsters - Belt Clips'

Adult Acne - adult acne, blemish control

This product is great and is highly effective. I have worked in pharmacy for 3 years and have seen people spend a lot of money on prescription acne treatments that basically do the same thing but only cost more, especially if you dont have insurance. This strength of Benzoyl Peroxide used to be RX only, but now is over the counter. It is rather strong and I do suggest that you follow the instructions on the package, especially if you have sensitive skin, to "ease into it", even if you are tempted to put it on 2-3 times a day at the very beginning. It may cause your skin to become very dry and flaky, somewhat ruining the benefits. Overtime though, many people's skin gets used to it and then you can increase the application as neeed.

As other people have mentioned this product does say that it is a gel, but in fact is a white cream and does leave some residue on the skin. The good news is that Clean & Clear has just come out with the same product as this in a clear gel!! I saw it the other day at a Walgreens!

One thing I do have to say though, is that someone previous to me, mentioned that this product is the same as the RX product ClidaGel, which is not true. ClindaGel contain benzoyl Peroxide, but it alos contains clindamycin which is another acne fighting engredient. I just thought that I should mention that in case anyone reading this uses ClindaGel.

Overall, this is definately a great product!!! Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strength 1

If you need to get rid of a zit fast, then this is the best out there, in my experience.

I put this on any zit (or blackhead trying to become a zit) that I spy before bed, and it knocks that sucker out. It does make my skin peel a tad, and it will probably do the same to you, so be careful not to overuse. Also, make sure you use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer as well if your skin is really sensitive.

EDIT: Something else that's great: This product caused old acne scars on my chin to fade very quickly. Acne scars are the worst because even if the zit goes away it looks like you still have it! So this product is great for that as well.

SECOND EDIT: I wrote this review several years ago. I'm now 29 and this product doesn't work the same for me as it used to. So your experience with it may vary depending on how old you are. When I was younger, it was the best! Now that I'm older, I find products with tea tree oil work better for me. Also: beware, this product will bleach any fabric it comes in contact with.

I have thin, oily skin and used to have pimples ravaging my nose and cheeks. This product has cured my acne without aggravating my skin. I've tried every (pricey) spot treatment under the sun, from Neutrogena to Clarins to DDF, and this product is one of the better ones.

Unfortunately, this product is **NOT A GEL** as advertised! It is a white cream that can leave splotches as it dries. I usually apply this after moisturizing so I don't get splotches anyway, but this is something that buyers should know: the packaging is truly misleading.

This stuff is amazing! I think I've tried almost every product out there, including prescriptions, and Persagel gave me clear skin in only a few weeks, and has kept it clear for months! I find the best routine is to clean your skin with a mild soap at night and apply a thin layer all over (it really helps prevent). In the morning, clean it off and apply moisturizer, something with SPF is best, as this medication will make your skin extremely sensitive to the sun. Do watch for bleaching though, I've ruined quite a few towels with this stuff!

This product works great. I've been using benzoyl peroxide - based over - the - counter acne treatments for at least 30 years and I'm ordering some more right now. But there is a caution that I should remember, but I recently forgot. Benzoyl peroxide is a bleach (they even use it in Asia to bleach flour, just check the label on your Ramen package). It can bleach literally anything. Recently I ruined a new set of expensive sheets and pillow cases, and left a bleached spot on my new comforter. So now I bought a nice set of white sheets and am trying to find a more color fast duvet cover.

I've also figured out what the small white spots in the carpet are. I've bleached out places in the carpet where I figure the residual on my fingers touched it. (I tend to put the benzoyl on as a final thing after the evening shower while at the bath room sink and in the past I generally haven't washed off the residual on my fingers.) I've determined I was picking something off the carpet or I sat down, using my hand to brace me. Poly/cotton blends seem to be more resistant to benzoyl peroxide than 100% cotton. Although completely man - made blends in the carpet have been bleached. So I'm not sure there is a hard and fast rule.

This would be good for parents to know and to enforce a 'hand washing' rule after use. Or just keep in mind when you find that really nice set of colorful sheets at Overstock.

I rarely review products, but just had to throw out my kudos to this product. I am a 29 female and have suffered with acne for 15+ years. It never seemed to get any better, despite expensive prescriptions. Most of my breakouts were around my jawline and hairline, although no part of my face could really escape it! For the last two years I have been trying to combat my acne with an expensive combination of antibiotics + birth control + salicylic face wash + aczone ($$!) and retin-a. Nothing cleared my breakouts.

Thank goodness for my love of amazon and everyone who has used this product and written their reviews! I decided to give persa-gel a shot and with a $5 price tag, I had nothing to lose.

The results are nothing short of AMAZING!! Persa-gel IMMEDIATELY cleared my breakouts, and has prevented new acne. The first day or two my skin was a little flakey in some spots, but after that no problems. I have been using this for about 2-3 weeks and have had ZERO new breakouts. I can run my hands along my face and my face feels smooth (and I can't feel ANY small bumps or clogged pores under the surface!!). I even used this on a small/picked at sore near my hairline that didn't seem to improve after a week or two. I used persa-gel on it and it IMMEDIATELY began to dry up and heal. REMARKABLE! As someone who picks at their skin too much (guilty), I love that this product almost seemed to HEAL my skin. I love that this product dries out acne, but doesn't make my skin flakey. Plus it rubs right in clear and very little product is needed.

I am so impressed with this product and recommend it to anyone to try. I am throwing out all my expensive prescriptions since I have found a new SOLUTION:

Morning:

Wash with Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask with Clarisonic Brush

Use Neutrogena Clear Pore Toner applied with cotton pad

Moisturize with Olay Total Effects moisturizer

Only on occasionally I use persa-gel as a spot treatment on any existing breakouts before makeup (Bare Minerals)

Night:

Wash with Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask with Clarisonic Brush

Use Neutrogena Clear Pore Toner applied with cotton pad

Moisturize with Olay Total Effects Night Firming cream (allow to absorb for 5-15 minutes)

Apply small amount of persa-gel to entire face, concentrating on breakout areas (rub in a small drop on problem areas)

Also taking Zinc (50 mg) + Copper (2.5 mg) nightly

*If you use moisturizer in conjunction with persa-gel, I advise using moisturizer PRIOR to persa-gel and allowing it to absorb for 5-15 minutes first. I have tried persa-gel first, and even after waiting before applying moisturizer, when I did, some persa-gel ended up getting too close to my eyes and irritating the delicate skin. - Acne Treatment - Adult Acne - Benzoyl Peroxide - Blemish Control'

Printer Accessories - photography, photo quality paper

I got a Canon Pro9000 printer over a year ago, and ever since then I've been experimenting with different papers. I order sample packs from paper companies such as Red River, Hahnemuhle, Ilford, and of course the native Canon paper. Since I was a total beginner when it comes to printing, I kept detailed notes in OneNote, compared the same image on different papers, calibrated my monitor, used soft proofing, etc. My goal was to find a paper that I love and that had predictable results from monitor to print.

After much toil and compromise with the 3rd party brands, I realized that Canon's Photo Paper Pro was a high-quality, consistent paper. It wasn't an exciting discovery - using the expensive paper from the printer manufacturer instead of discovering some money-saving yet exotic specialty paper - but at least my prints were looking good.

Then as I was restocking on ink, I noticed that Canon updated their product line, releasing Photo Paper Pro II and Photo Paper Pro Platinum. Intrigued, I ordered a 20-pack of letter sized Platinum. Sure enough, soon I had a chance to shoot a portrait of a friend of mine that had many vivid colors, high dynamic range, and a great level of detail. I did a small shoot-out between some Red River paper, Photo Paper Pro (the original), and the Platinum. I won't labor you with the details, but when I printed on Photo Paper Pro after a few Red River misses, I sighed with relief - the colors were rich and faithful, and the image looked great. I then pushed the envelope and printed with Platinum. Wow!!! It got even better! The differences were subtle, but perceptible. The Platinum seemed to have a bit more "pop", probably owing to its higher brightness.

For a recent gallery showing, I printed a couple dozen more prints on this Platinum paper, and got a good feel for its performance. I found that soft proofing wasn't really necessary with this paper - it looked very faithful to the screen without having to bring anything back into the gamut. Despite being a brighter base paper, the prints came out a bit darker than some of the other papers I was messing around with. A bump of 5% to brightness in Qimage did the trick. The colors also seemed a bit less saturated. This is a tough one to make a call on - I'm used to Canon's idea of colors (whether camera-processed JPG or their super-glossy paper) being a bit too much on the Disney side, so I was actually appreciative of a more subdued default. A saturation boost of 2% or 3% did the trick. Note that the "unsaturated" colors were still plenty deep and rich, just not quite as punchy.

I'm going to try the Photo Paper Pro II next to see if it's a good middle point between the (already good) Photo Paper Pro and this beautiful but expensive Platinum. This paper definitely earns its name - it's the top of the line with a price to match. I didn't see a world of difference between this and the old Photo Paper Pro in terms of visuals, but Canon claims that the archival qualities in this paper are state of the art, and I believe them. So for prints I really care about, I'm all about the Pro Plat! Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum, 8.5 x 11 Inches, 20 Sheets (2768B022)

Get best results with Canon Photo Paper Pro II. Also a little bit less pricey. Using Canon 9000 Pixmar Pro.

Could not tell any difference that would justify the extra money spend on this type of paper.

This Pro Photo Paper is the best I have ever used. I have a lot to do with photography and the pictures I print on this paper to use in my portfolio is amazing. There is no finer photo paper!! If you want the best looking pictures this is hands down the best paper to show off your work, or just to have photos hanging around on your walls.

I use a Canon Pixma Pro9000, which I just got a few months ago. I am going to discuss the paper quality versus my printer, however, because sometimes the color production from the printer seems perfect, and other times it comes out dark. But the printer always gets the sharpness and image quality right.

So far, I am very pleased with this particular print paper. The colors are well-saturated, clean and glossy, although I find sometimes I may have to wait a while for the print to have "dried" before the colors are accurate. Again, this may be more the printer's fault than the paper itself. I have given prints made on this paper to various clients and they have been very pleased; so far, I have not heard any complaints about fading. (However, I think ANY print will fade in time if left in direct sunlight frequently.)

The print quality is fantastic and I've been pretty happy so far. As I experiment with papers more, I may find one I like better, but this is pretty good for now.

I download images of coins and print them for a research project. My Canon IP 4600 + Pro Platinum paper produce prints as good as professional catalogs. For the first time, I'm completely satisfied with my prints. Furthermore, Canon says the paper is of archival quality, but it will take >25 years to prove this.

On the down side, the best prices I've found are ~$1/page and $15/cartridge(IP 4600 has 5 individual cartridges), so a high volume user might find this costs too much. The IP 4600 itself wasn't expensive. - Photo Paper - Canon Photo Paper - Photography - Photo Quality Paper'

Storage - accessories, base

Originally I was interested in purchasing a Balance Ball Chair, but at $70 and just starting out I decided to go with the Balance Ball Base, the less expensive way to go.

Not only does the base keep the ball from rolling while at your desk this unit will connect with an exercise strap for working out.

So for approximately $20 (Base and Shipping-shpg about same cost as the base) it's pretty worth it and very satisfied with it and perhaps even a better alternative to a Balance Ball Chair. Isokinetics Inc. Brand Exercise Ball Base

When I received the base, I was concerned that the lack of "feet" would cause unnecessary scratching on my wood floors. The reason is that entire base area rests on the floor vs. having pads, or coaster discs on the base where the 4 holes are.

But, really, what I wanted was casters in those four holes but I didn't want to pay up to $75 more for a "chair" base for my ball. So, I contacted Isokinetics to ask if they sold casters for this base... it seems as though it is designed for casters with the existing four holes. Their answer was no, they didn't offer that accessory.

So, I headed down to my local Home Depot to buy four light duty, ball-bearing casters... some bolts and hardware, all costing less than $14 and added them to the base. Voila, I had the more reasonably priced ball chair base that I wanted in the first place.

(I've posted a photo of the modified base on the product page.)

This is actually a really cool device because now my exercise ball doesn't roll all over the place. I use my ball at work as my desk chair and before I had the base I was constantly rolling all over. It was difficult to sit cross-legged on my ball, as well, although the rest of the office staff got a kick out of me falling heels over head.

Another neat thing about it is that there are hole in which I could hook up resistance weights hooked on cords so it keeps everything organised and handy.

This product is supposed to serve as a base for exercise balls that allows you to sit on the ball in a stable way . However, it does not serve this function at all! I have several sizes of balls and the base is not able to hold even one of them in place. It is simply not high enough.

I bought this to store my ball. I wasn't keen on having it rolling freely around my living space and this fits the bill. I haven't tried it for stabilization while sitting on the ball because I like the balancing which helps build core strength. It arrived looking just like the picture so there were no surprises. It isn't pretty but it definitely does the job.

Nothing fancy, does what it's supposed to do. This works well with my 75cm ball. Smaller and you may have issues. The base is good to use with a 75cm ball as a desk chair! I'm 5' 10" and it's perfect.

My Isokinetics Exercise Ball Base was delivered within the promised time span in excellent condition. My purpose for purchasing it was to have a place to store the inflated ball; this product is perfect for that and can also be used to stabilize the ball while in use. Upon receipt of the base I noticed that it could also be used to facilitate the use of a strength-training exercise cord, which I have been unable to find. If you have that item, I would like to be notified. - Exercise Ball - Base - Accessories - Balance Ball Chair'

Jacqueline Kennedy

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy was without a doubt one of America?s most admired first ladies and that is the major theme of this book. Although the book - a collection of quotes taken from a variety of sources, mostly interviews given by Mrs. Kennedy - spans her lifetime, a good portion is devoted to Jackie?s roles as the young wife of Senator John F. Kennedy and as the Nation?s First Lady. In order to fully appreciate some of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis?s comments about her roles as a woman/wife/mother and widow, it is important to bring up the historical context. The Kennedy Administration, ?Camelot,? took place amid turbulent times: widespread civil and racial unrest, the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis, and escalating involvement in the Vietnamese conflict. The women?s movement was then in its infancy and it is against this backdrop that the Kennedy?s acquired mythical, almost magical qualities. ?Jack and Jackie were America?s royal couple,? writes Bill Adler in his introduction to The Eloquent Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis; A Portrait in Her Own Words. The quotes provide a window into her childhood, life with JFK and her role as First Lady, then widowhood, followed by her marriage to Aristotle Onassis, her work as book editor for both Viking Publishers and Doubleday, and final years. One section deals with the assassination, ?Jack was the love of my life. No one will ever know a big part of me died with him.? A common thread that runs throughout is her great love of, and reliance on, the family. Jackie?s life revolved around those she loved the most, her husband and her children, Caroline and John Jr. ?Raising children is the best thing I?ve ever done,? she declared. For those of us who lived through the sixties and are old enough to remember where we were when we heard that the President of the United States had been mortally wounded by an assassin?s bullet, this tiny giant of a book will help to fan the flames of remembrance by highlighting the ?beauty, grace and intelligence Jacqueline Kennedy brought to the White House,? the country, and the world. The Eloquent Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis : A Portrait in Her Own Words (With a One-Hour DVD Insert from A&E Biography)

It says very clearly in the ad that this book includes a one-hour DVD with it, but my order arrived without the DVD. After sending 3 emails

to the vendor's customer servce, none of them are replied. But the vendor

is still selling the same items at Amazon. I think that with their poor service quality, this vendor should be removed from the Amazon immediately.

Just finished the Kindle version. I really enjoyed reading things directly from her instead of leaving the book wondering what was gossip, or actual history. Kindle version does not include the pictures that are displayed in the actual book but I wouldn't even have noticed if the text didn't inform be that the pictures had been removed. It's a great read.

The best part of this book was the A&E video included. It was all quotes, and some not so positive. I did not feel that the author actually liked her. If you want to read it, check it out of the library.

loved this book, loved her though her story is yet fully told I don't beleve. There is still much not in the public eye that was the Kennedy way, the lifg, the history and now, well its about all over isn't it, who carries the flame???'

Benzoyl Peroxide - skin care, acne treatment

I bought this product to deal with some mild acne around my chin. I also get the occasional painful cyst-type acne (I am in my mid 20's and this is a recent development).I have pretty sensitive dry/normal combo skin and other treatments I have tried have just made me peely and flaky.

I have been using the treatment for a month. At first the treatment was a little drying so I went to using it every other night and now I am applying it every night following it up with moisturizer. My skin is DEFINITELY clearer. The product is easy to apply, soaks into your skin pretty quickly and is unscented (a huge plus!) It is still a little irritating everyonce in awhile but I have not had any ridiculous peeling/redness. I'm still not sure how it will be under my makeup wearing it all day.

Overall, I am impressed with this product, it has helped out my skin! Acne.org 8 oz. Treatment

Great price, beats it's competitors. The product did exactly what it says it would do. Cleared up my face quickly. Fragrance free, which I love as well. I highly recommend this product. Daniel Kern knows what he's doing. I look forward to trying more of his products. Awesome!!

I was so depressed when I was using Neutrogena's 2.5% benzoyl peroxide because my face would always be a dry, peeling, flaky mess no matter what moisturizer I used!! This product is much better. It is still drying, as any B.P. treatment is going to be, but it just glides on so much smoother and is considerably less drying. I get a little bit of dryness but not the peeling, awful-looking skin I had. On top of all of this, it works wonderfully! I feel like my skin actually looks not only clearer but healthier and more vibrant!

I have very oily skin, so acne was always an issue. With five days of use larger bumps have become smaller, and small bumps under the skin have almost entirely cleared away.

I, like another one of the reviewers, must admit that I am not following the regimen exactly though. The treatment is gentle enough, and my skin oily enough, that I have not felt the need for moisturizer. I am still using a facial wash once a day to keep my skin clean.

Overall I am very pleased. I have had no irritation and my skin is clearer than it has ever been! (And I have tried many other treatments, including antibiotics and prescription washes).

I would recommend this treatment to anyone with any sort of acne issues.

I have mild acne (forehead, temples) and occassionally get cystic pimple aaround that time of the month, but it took only a few weeks for me to see results. Since I have combination skin (oily/dry combo), I put less of the benz. peroxide on my cheeks and much more on my forehead/temple area. Even though the instructions says use A LOT and to follow the instructions to a T, you have to see how your face reacts from the getgo and do a little tailoring to your skin's needs.

Also, BIG POINT- The benzoyl peroxide will bleach EVERYTHING it comes in contact with ESPECIALLY when you are sleeping. Oh, one more thing, you will notice that hair will be bleached. I have the thickest ( it's a dark brown, almost black ) hair you can imagine and it bleached it rather quickly. So if you have thin hair, act quickly and cover your hair from the start of the regimen. I don't mind a few red and blond hairs, but to those who do, cover your hair when you sleep.

Otherwise, a product that is straight forward and does the job.

If you follow Dan's regimen at acne.org -- or any of the rip-off regimens available like it from Clean & Clear, Physicians Formula, etc. let alone Proactiv -- then you know 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (BP) works as well as 5% or 10% but without horribly drying your skin (or, worse, drying it out so badly, your skin cracks and bleeds or oozes where it is cracked (yeah, that what happened to me on a regimen of topical antibiotics, 10% benzoyl peroxide, and 1% Retin-A cream that were all RXed together by a dermatologist!!)

This is a great 2.5% BP. It's more like a cream than a lotion, so it's not runny and it stays where you put it. It doesn't leave a hugely heavy white residue on your face (depending how much you use). And it doesn't have extraneous irritating or allergy-causing ingredients in it.

I have the misfortune of having mostly dry or very dry skin WITH adult acne, especially prone to breaking out with a couple deep, large acne cysts around "that time of the month". In the past, I was RXed 5% or 10% BP (as mentioned above) which harmed my skin much more than it cleared up my acne.

I've since learned that 2.5% is the way to go. It works just as well as the 5% or 10% but without all the complexion-frying harshness of those two higher concentrations.

Thanks, Dan!

I started experiencing very stubborn, painful cyst-like acne on my jaw line a few years ago (I'm in my mid-30's) and was at my whits end. I tried ProActiv and experienced more breakouts; Clinique's skin care line helped some. I happened upon this product a few months ago when searching the net for acne solutions. I am so please with the results-within a few weeks of usage, my jaw line has completely cleared. I am loving that this product absorbs completely (some other BP products that combine with moisturizer tend to leave a sticky residue). I, too am like some of the other reviewers in that I have not used it exactly as prescribed-once a day seems to be enough. I have had some dryness around my nose and lips, so I just avoid those areas when applying.

This product is great. I haven't had a blemish in months (although it took a few weeks to work, which is to be expected.) It also feels so smooth on my skin, unlike Neutrogena's On-the-Spot treatment, which always leaves my face feeling itchy and tight. I will say that I don't use the treatment exactly as recommended (I only use it at night and use a salicylic acid gel during the day for blackhead control), but my results have still been great. I plan on using it forever! - Blemish - Skin Care - Benzoyl Peroxide - Acne Treatment'
