Tool Chest On Wheels - toolbox, construction

I have had two of these for about a year. I'm a site superintendent/lead carpenter. I love the organization but the plastic is cheap and when it's exposed to cold weather it cracks and breaks like peanut brittle. Both of the locks that hold the drawers shut have broken off. The frame is very light gauge and has dislodged itself many times requiring repair. The design is there I just wish Stanley would use quality plastic and real pneumatic wheels with a decent frame! Take a look at the Bosch gravity rise stands for table/chop saws Bosch TS2000 Gravity-Rise Wheeled Table Saw Stand. Those products are well worth the money. They are built like tanks. This toolbox is NOT. For $80 I want better quality. Stanley Consumer Storage 020800R FatMax 4-in1 Mobile Work Station for Tools and Parts

I'm a remodeling contractor in So. Cal., and I just picked up one of these at Lowes. I really love it. Maybe a little on the cheap side for rigorous daily jobsite use, but its really handy for keeping tools, fasteners, etc. organized on site (vs. laying around all over the place). Closes up into a tidy box for transport, and the opening system for access to all areas at the same time is awesome. Think I'll go get a second one today!

I bought this rolling toolbox for my boyfriend as he travels with tools a lot. It is so neat now I want one! It has several compartments that can be used for different purposes and we love the wheels. The fact that it opens up to show all the compartments without having to pick up sections is nice too.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I'm not sure about the durability of it. It is made of plastic and I'm not certain that over time with traveling it will hold up. Time will tell.

I'm off to order another - this one is for me!

Like "Tim the Painter" I also own two of these toolboxes and have for the last three months. Had I written this review on the day of purchase, I would have given them 5 stars but felt a trial period was in order to give a review. I should also note that the total weight of each loaded box is 88lbs. and 84lbs.

Although I haven't had any problems with plastic durability (possibly because I'm in a warmer climate) I am concerned with the thin-wall construction of the "Patented tiered cantilever multi-level rolling system" --not much better than what you'd find in an eight-dollar folding lawn chair. The limit stop on the telescoping handle is insufficient and I can see the day that I (or someone else) break the handle off. Hindsight tells me I should have waited for the new and improved version.

UPDATE: 6 months later...

Still toting around the same tools with just a couple of problems. One of the spring-loaded locking pins on the telescoping handle has developed a bur and won't fully seat on it's own (it has to be pushed in manually). Forgetting that problem, I hyper-extended the handle bending it slightly. The other problem that I've found is if you place the center of gravity forward of the wheels while "pushing", a lot of stress is placed on the mount. It's not a problem if "pulling". I leave it at 2 stars because of this weak design.

UPDATE: 2 years later...

Even though these don't travel with my like they have in the past, they're holding up better than I thought they would. The shortcomings mentioned above persist along with some minor 'bulging' of the large lower compartment (I should note that these boxes are rarely exposed to direct sunlight, heat or cold). Change rating from 2 stars to 3.

I will say that this is the best portable tool box I've ever had. It is portable but hold most of my frequently used tools. I now know where all my tools are. It is very mobile and just roll out of my garage and all the tools that i need are there. At this time, it's not even full yet. Worth the money for sure. Do your research, but due to it's mutiple function level system, the awkwardness of getting tools out is totally elimated........you'll end up back to this product

I have had my FatMax 4in1 box for more than a month and would buy another in a heartbeat. I condensed two household boxes into this box and have room to grow. The bottom box is home to my Ryobi five peice One+ cordless tool set including spare batteries, charger, and drill/driver set (and some other odd shapped things like my square). The middle box is perfect for my electrical parts and peices including crimper, pliers, etc. plus more spare batteries, tape measures, and more. The top box is more than ample for handtools.

The best part of the box is it's portability. It is great to move from project to project and not have to run around the house or shop looking for the right tool or part. As an added benefit, when the top box lid is open, it has compartments to temporarly store small parts and screws/nails while a project is under way.

It's a great box that I will rely on for a long time. My wife is considering buying one for her stamp/scrapbook/art supplies. She would have already completed the purchase if the box came in colors besides black.

i bought this for my husband at Christmas. He is a wood worker and travels to many peoples homes . He was having to carry many things in by hand because he didnt think anything was made to hold everything he needed. He said he wished he had 2 of them now, cannot believe how much easier it makes his job!!!!!!!

I have this toolbox for less than one month and it is broken in seval places. Both pivots are broken off, the bottom box has a huge crack in it. There are other places that are cracked. I like the layout of the box when working out of it all compartments are accessable. But for 80 bucks I would hope for more use before it breaks. I had a Craftsman box that lasted 3 years and I flew it all over the country with no cracks or breaks. It got stolen and I bought this one and I wasted my money on it. - Toolbox - Remodeling - Construction - Carpenter'

Planer Accessories

Don't skimp on blades . . . just buy these. Thy are perfectly matched in the set (my caliper confirmed that, see below), they will fit the models listed, and maybe some more, and they are only a few dollars more than the 'F' brand knockoffs.

I measured mine when new for those that may be unsure if they match up to their other brands of jointers . . . they are 6.125"L x .6"H x .095" thick and come ground on one edge only . . . my set is labled 'HSS18 - Made in W. Germany' . . . I don't know if they still are made there or not (the W. Germany tells me I have older stock) . . . IIRC the '18' in HSS18 is the percentage of Tungsten content. Flat Screen Wall Mount - tv wall mount, lcd wall mount

I just installed this wall mount for use with a 42" Philips plasma screen TV. As you can see from the picture, the mount basically consists of two plates connected by an articulating arm, which provides the swivel action. The TV is secured to the larger of the two plates via the supplied brackets, which provide the tilt action. The mount itself comes pre-assembled and thus requires only installation onto the wall; similarly, the brackets are also pre-assembled (with the exception of a pair of adjustment knobs for the tilt mechanism which for some reason are not mentioned at all in the installation instructions), and need only be screwed into the back of the TV.

Despite some headaches presented by the construction of my wall (I rent an apartment in an old building in Brooklyn where there is apparently an inch-and-a-half of plaster overlying drywall and studs), I was able to install the smaller plate into the wall using some cheap-but-sturdy toggler anchors from the local hardware store, without a problem.

Where I did run into a problem was when I mounted the TV to the larger of the two plates. Basically, though the mount seems solidly constructed and holds up just fine, it seems as though the articulating arm isn't strong enough at the joint, which causes a distinct and noticeable (about 3-5 degrees or so) right-sided droop to the TV; this despite the fact that the smaller plate affixed to the wall is perfectly level. Now, given that the mount is rated for TVs up to 55", I don't think my 42" TV is outside of its reported weight range. So, given that the wall plate is level, and eliminating the weight of the TV as the source of the problem, I can only chalk it up to a design or manufacturing defect.

Now, the droop makes the whole thing look kind of sloppy, though in truth it doesn't really affect the viewing experience all that much; it's slight enough so that you don't notice it at all once you're engrossed in whatever it is you're watching. And this is definitely the cheapest tilt-and-swivel mount I've been able to find, which offsets a little bit of my disappointment. In sum, I'd say I'm satisfied enough that I won't bother to go through the hassle of trying to return it, but if I were to do it all over again I might have saved up for a slightly more expensive model from a different manufacturer. cheetah Mounts 32"-55" LCD TV Wall Mount Bracket with Full Motion Swing Out Tilt & Swivel Articulating Arm for Flat Screen Flat Panel LCD LED Plasma TV and Monitor Displays APSAMB

I just finished installing this mount and my 50" Panasonic plasma. I bought the articulating mount so I could position the TV in the corner. This means I mounted it towards the corner of one wall and used the articulation to move it to a diagonal position where the edges are flush against adjacent walls.

This mount was very easy to install. Instructions were great. I really liked the built-in level. It was easy to get the plasma on the mount with two people.

The one issue I had was with the tv actually being level. The tv is level when it's flat against the wall. When I articulate it out a bit and to the right, the right edge dips. It's obvious enough to bother me. What I did was adjust one of the brackets that bolt to the tv. I purposely had one bracket one position different (higher) than the other. This resulted in leveling the tv when articulated. However, when I put the tv back against one wall, it's grossly off level. That's ok for me because the permanent spot is in the corner which is level. I think the problem is due to the weight pressing down on the arm. Not much you can do about it.

This mount is sturdy and well built. It was easy to install into my traditional TV cabinet.

The mount adjusts in several different ways, allowing for easy mounting of my Panasonic Viera, which I was told would not be easy to find a mount for as it does not have standard mount holes.

The only trouble I have has was my error, where I did not attach the mount to the cabinet perfectly vertical. Now when the arm is completely extended and the TV is turned its not level. Not really a big deal as I only have it in that position when fiddling with cables.

Overall I'm very happy.

TV: Panasonic Viera 42" 720p plasma (52.9 lbs. without stand)

This was my first TV wall mount that I've purchased. Upon my initial search, I was shocked by the prices of wall mounts, especially ones that not only pivot up and down but swivel out and side-to-side. When I came across this model by Cheetah Mounts, I thought this had to be cheap and I'd be regretting my purchase. I read the reviews and even though many had issues with the TV drooping to one side slightly when extended, I basically just had to bite the bullet and accept that if I want to save money, this product was my best option. Boy, was I wrong.

I unpacked the box and immediately could tell by the weight of the product that this was not cheaply made. The components were tight/solid and the design was simple. There was nothing cheap-feeling about the mount, including the supplied nuts, bolts, washers, etc.

I will admit that the directions were not exactly clear, but if you just take your time and read through completely (a few times) before actually performing a step, it will all come together.

In my particular setup, I was installing onto 2x4 studs 16" on center (standard wall stud configuration). I can't imagine installing into a concrete wall as described in the directions, if you needed to. This seemed much more complicated.

The one place for improvement I could see in the instructions was the placement on the wall and how to decide how high to hang the mount and how to go about making sure your 4 holes you pre-drilled in the wall line up properly to keep the wall mount level once hung. If you have a stud-finder, a level (supplied with the mount) and common sense, you will have no trouble. If you get this part right, the rest will fall into place.

As described in the directions, it's recommended that you use two people to hang the TV once you've attached the part of the mount that goes on the TV. The wife and I had no troubles getting the TV up and mounted together. We've been known to bicker back and forth on projects and I think the only thing we bickered about was how high the mount should be hung! Amazing!

After installation was complete, we gave the unit some test runs by swinging out the arm in different directions and angles. The mount maintained it's center level through-out the complete range of motion... even fully extended. Again, I owe this to patience in the beginning to ensure the lag bolts that were screwed into the 2x4 studs were level. I experienced zero-droop fully extended and turned to either side. I was very impressed. I'm still not sure what other product reviewers had trouble with.

I am VERY pleased with this product and will buy it again when ever I get my next TV that I want to mount.

I know usually you get what you pay for. In this case, I feel like I got a great deal for the money. Maybe if I could compare this product to a higher priced product that can perform the same motion, I'd have more negative comments, but I don't plan on ever looking for a different product/model again. - Tv Wall Mount - Wall Mount - Flat Screen Wall Mount - Lcd Wall Mount'

Makita Batteries - tools, cordless

This is a simple to use, highly effective battery charger. It is far superior to the original charger that came with the Makita drill I purchased over 11 years ago. I thought that my old Makita NiCad stick batteries could no longer hold a charge after so many years of great service. To my surprise, they are once again holding a full charge after being inserted into this replacement Makita charger. Wow. Talk about a small miracle! I'll be able to enjoy my Makita drill for many years to come. Nice. I wish I had purchased this little marvel prior to buying a replacement set of Makita NiCads - oh well, now I have four batteries!

Bottom line: If you're considering a replacement battery charger for your Makita cordless device that uses stick style batteries, look no further. Highly recommeded. Makita DC1804 7.2-Volt to 18-Volt Pod Style and Stick Style 3-Hour Battery Charger

I have a Makita 6011D drill that has seen lots use and is still a strong reliable drill. When the charger that came with it quit working, I was upset, but I rigged up a different charging device so that I could continue to use it. Before long it seemed as if the batteries were no longer able to hold a charge. When I found this charger for such a great price, I decided I had to have it. It's nice too that it will charge several different sized batteries whether stick or the newer style and NiMH batteies also. But I perfer the nicads because they can tolerate more abuse in my experience.

Batteries that I had given up on are now holding a charge after using the new charger. It has made my drill seem like a new one again. So glad I found this charger. It does a better job than the original Makita DC1290A which I assume was made in Japan. I priced one of them once, and they were quite expensive. The new one is made in China, but I have nothing but praise for it thus far.

After bounce testing the charger that came in the kit, i needed a charger fast! Went to the "big boxes" and they wanted $80.00 for the same charger so i came home and searched the internet and found this. Even with FREE shipping it was at my front door in no time. I use my drill and flashlight quite often at work so i need a good charger and this is it.

Exactly what I order, perfect shape.

Came in retail package not blister pack. Not really important to me unless it states it in the description.

Not a scratch on the charger.

Difference in taking a chance buying a used one verses a new, was less than ten dollars on a sixty dollar item.

I have a 1/3 cost savings rule if I am going to take a chance on a used item.

I might have consider saving the ten bucks if anyone selling them "used" would offer a 30 day guarantee against DOA etc. When you read the fine print the seven day guarantee offered on the used ones starts when they ship or even when the billing is completed ie they get paid.

Well it takes four to five days (unless you pay big bucks for shipping, which then defeats the ten dollar savings) to arrive and I am not always at home when stuff arrives. Been there done that, seller's attitude was "sorry you should have read our return policy before buying".

Suffice to say, I tend to do business with sellers that have the least amount of gotcha's in the fine print. We all have to protect ourselves in this every changing world, but there is a difference. I find the sellers that will do the right thing when something goes wrong (reading feedback of those that have had a problem) are the sellers with the least amount of gotcha's in the fine print.

If you have the OLD style Makita cordless 12v drill just laying there dead...buy this charger and you'll be back in business!

I received this charger in less than the estimated time and within a couple of hours my drill was working again. I shopped all over the internet and this was the best price delivered. If you are in the market for a universal Makita Battery Charger and are reading this review..STOP... Just Order...you'be happy you did.

I have a Makita cordless drill that I just love. I have used it many, many hours and thought that the batteries were wore out. I bought a new battery and within a week it was dead too. I then bought this charger and lo and behold, all three of my batteries are now working great and holding power as they were designed too. If you think you need new batteries, you probably just need a new charger as I did. Thanks Amazon!

The Makita DC1804 Battery Charger (7.2 volt to 18 volt pod style and stick style 3-hour battery charger) is a hard to find item that was easily found at Amazon. . .making it the perfect place to shop! Aa Rechargeable Batteries - green 3, energizer

All rechargeable battery manufacturers love to boast about their product's current capacity (mAh). But there is a dirty little secret that they don't want you to hear: self-discharge rate. Simply put: a fully charged NiCd or NiMH cell will gradually lose its stored energy over time. Technical papers I have researched typically put the self-discharge rate at 10-20% per month for NiCd cells, and 20-30% per month for NiMH cells. This kind of self-discharge rate is usually acceptable in applications such as digital cameras.

I bought 8 of those Energizer 2500mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries over one year ago. At first, I was very happy about the large current capacity offered by those batteries. But within a few months, I started to notice that they die very quickly in my digital camera. In fact, a set of Sony 2300mAh NiMH batteries I bought one year earlier seems to last much longer when used in the same camera.

I recently did some controlled experiments (using the LaCrosse BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger) and found out what's wrong: The Energizer NiMH batteries have very high self-discharge rate. After fully charging all 8 cells and left them on the shelf for one week, five of them lost over 30% of their charge, and the other three lost about 20%. In comparison, the set of older Sony batteries only lost around 10% over the same one-week period.

So what this really means is: if I charge up those Energizer 2500mAh batteries and leave them in my camera for three weeks, they will become totally exhausted. I found this kind of self-discharge rate completely unacceptable, therefore I strongly advise against buying those batteries.

[Update on April 9, 2007]

I have hardly used those Energizer 2500mAh cells in the last few month. Now they have deteriorated even further. Five of them can't even hold their charges for more then a day.

Instead of the Energizer 2500mAh cells, I recommend buying the Rayovac "Hybrid" 2100mAh cells. They have very low self-discharge rate (see my review on "RAYO 4PK AA") and are cheaper than the better-known Sanyo eneloop 2000mAh cells. Kodak also sells a "Pre-Charged" NiMH cell with exactly the same spec as the Rayovac Hybrid.

The bottom line: Low-Self-Discharge NiMH cells are your best choices. There is absolutely no point in taking chances with older generation 2500-2700mAh NiMH cells now.

[Update on Oct 20, 2010]

The product image of Energizer Rechargeable AA has changed. It no longer advertises '2500mAh'. I went to my local W*mart to check out the actual batteries. All Energizer rechargable AA cells are now 2300mAh. Evidentially, Energizer has 'rollled back' battery technology to 2004. This is actually a good move because the lower capacity cells do not suffer from hideous self-discharge rate. Contrary to popular belief, a 2300mAh cell is not any less capable in delivering high power than a 2500mAh cell. Just that the run time will be about 8% shorter. Energizer NH15BP-4 Rechargeable AA Battery 4 Pack

I've been using NIMH batteries from SANYO, NEXCELL, POWEREX and AccuPower for over 6 years. Use them for everything from high current drain digital cameras and high-end digital audio recorders to CD players, bathroom scales and flashlights.

I rely on two of the excellent MAHA MH-C401FSB smart 2-rate chargers. These charge and monitor each battery independently, not in pairs. Energizer 2500 mAH units were fine for about three months. Then I noticed that devices would be calling for new batteries with little to no use. This has never happened with other AAs NIMH, including those with less than half the advertised capacity. The MAHA charger also started reporting that some of the Energizer AAs were not taking a charge at all.

Kept finding that typically one out of four were the problem. Many of the 32 AA Energizers I bought have had problems. Repeatedly have had one battery run out of charge while others still test very strong. Felt pen dots put on discharged batteries showed it was the same batteries time and time again. Have reverted in some cases to 1600 mAH SANYO OEM batteries put in service in Feb 2001 and those provide longer and more reliable performance!

In my considerable experience with these 2500 mAH AA Energizers they have been a very big disappointment and, regardless of warranty, cannot be relied upon.

I bought a bunch of Energizer's AA ACCU NiMH rechargeable batteries to power a halogen bicycle light and LEGO Mindstorms robots. Their performance has exceeded my expectations. The bicycle light seems as bright as it ever was with alkaline batteries, affording good visibility during night time cycling. And stopping play---er, experimentation---with the LEGO robots for recharging has yet to be a problem. However, I do have to issue this warning: these batteries are slightly fatter than standard AA batteries. I tried using them in a Mini Mag Light. After I got one battery in the light's barrel, I realized---too late---that I'd never get the batteries back out. I ended up destroying the Mini Mag Light in order to retrieve the batteries. If your application is cramped for space, beware! If they do fit, expect good energy for a good long time.

I used to buy excellent Maha rechargable batteries, but finally Energizer attracted my attention. Great price, great capacity. After about 20 recharges batteries are strong and do not show any signs of problems.

I use them in old, power hungry and very demanding Olympus E-10 camera. It is known to draw up to one amper of current and to declare batteries empty as far as their voltage goes slightly below 1.2 volts. Considering number of pictures I can take comparing to Maha 2100 MAh batteries, I can say Energizer is very strong performer and 2500MAh is not just a number.

Some users complained about very bad performance for Energizer.

There could be couple things to consider:

- make sure you have decent charger: many high capacity NiMh batteries can be destroyed easily with cheap (<$20) charger - overheat and overcharge are usual suspects

- some devices expect 1.5 volts, not 1.2 that all NiMh normally deliver; in general freshly charged good set of NiMh has voltage around 1.4 volts - but it goes down very fast to 1.2 v and stays there until batteries are nearly empty. Most modern cameras have "cut off" voltage set to 1.1 v

Update on Feb 7, 2007

I should mention that 4 out of my 12 Energizer batteries suddenly stopped to work. Surprisingly these are four spares I have not used much. I suspect that these batteries may develop a problem if left uncharged for prolonged period of time. For now I have bought Sanyo slow discharge Eneloop batteries (available at Amazon) as a replacement. - Energizer - Green 3 - Battery Aa Rechargeable - Battery'

Barbecue Leather Gloves - fire tending gloves, gloves

I heat my home primarily with a woodstove. I often have my hands near high heat. With these gloves I've experienced no discomfort or difficulty manipulating the wood. Plus the leather and lining are quite malleable. Heat Resistant Fireplace and Barbecue Gloves

These gloves are great for the money spent. First thing I would like to talk about are the pros and later I will discuss the cons.

The Pros of this product are numerous.

1. As long as you are wearing long sleeves, the comparatively short gloves are completely sufficient at protecting your wrist and forearm.

2. Durable in high heat

3. Comfortable inside lining

4. Rather stylish

The Cons are.

1. When gripping metal at around 800 degrees Fahrenheit (roughly 400 C) These gloves start to melt a little bit and are not sufficient at keeping out the heat.

2. It is hard to clean the inside lining. Especially if you are grilling with raw meat and a rub. So wash your hands first. I know this is a bit of a hassle but you don't want to tear your inside lining, which can happen when you clean it.

The cons are only applicable in certain circumstances which is why I would recommend this product. It is going to rock the gloves off your basic oven mitten :-)

I was looking for something to use with my propane grill that would allow me to remove various cooking utensils (mostly skewers and my fish-grilling basket) from the grilltop with more dexterity than the usual oven mitt. These gloves are handsome looking and very comfortable, but are nearly useless when it comes to heat resistance. If I grip a hot skewer for the 5-10 seconds required to remove meat or vegetables from it, my hand becomes very uncomfortable and I have to shift the skewer from one hand to the other. After just three uses, the fingertips of both gloves have partially melted and show the imprints of the round skewer heads on them. I have cotton oven mitts that are more heat resistant than these gloves, which is a shame because the gloves are very reasonably priced and seem nicely constructed. I would not recommend these for use with a barbecue grill. I am amazed that other users have given them such high praise; maybe the manufacturer has cheapened them or I got a defective pair.

I bought these gloves on Amazon for $19.96, and they were well worth it. They are sturdy, long enough in the cuffs and thick enough in the hands to protect from the heat of a fire. They look good, too. The black color of the glove part doesn't show the dark soot from burnt logs and ashes. The red cuffs do show a bit of dirt, but it's not that big a deal, in my opinion. Overall, these gloves are a good value.

The heat resistant fireplace and barbecue gloves do a great job, I use them for my fireplace, they keep my hands clean as well as protected form the fire and heat. Go Gloves got them to me very promptly .I look forward to making many winter nights fires in my fireplace.

I have had these gloves for about a year and they work very well for adding logs to my fire place. I have manipulated hot logs and have not felt any discomfort. They might be a bit bulky for grilling, though.

These are great gloves for bbqing. Picking up and moving hot grates and moving any hot bbq equipment for that matter is no problem.

They're good enough where you might find yourself feeling confident enough to pick up a hot, lit, coal. It'll be ok for a few seconds but then you'll feel it. I guess that's what tongs are for.

As the proud owner of a new Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5 inch smoker, I wanted to make sure I had an excellent pair of gloves for handling the various heavy parts of this smoker, especially when they're hot. (Picking up a heavy smoker filled with precious pork butt and ribs with thin gloves will make your arms feel like Kwai Chang Caine from the old TV show "Kung Fu" carrying that "arm-be-que" thing... not good.) These gloves are well made with tight stitching throughout, the interior is lined with a soft cotton-like material, they fit my somewhat large hands comfortably, and they insulate extremely well. And at about $20.00 and free shipping (arrived in 4 days), you can't go wrong. - Gloves - Barbecue Leather Gloves - Fireplace - Fire Tending Gloves'

Electrical

This is a great basic kit for those who need all the basics. Tape, current detector, cutter, stripper, fuses, phillips and flat head screwdrivers, all sort of connectors and even some extra wire. This is something everyone needs at home just to fix basic stuff!

The only complaint that I have is that the wire cutting/stripping tool was kind of cheaply built but I have three really nice ones besides that so I do not care. Wilmar W5207 285 Piece Multi-Use Electrical Repair Kit

This was a great little set. The box it came it was fine and the tools and pieces that came in the kit did the job. There is room to add items if you want and you can let someone borrow it with having to give them your good stuff. You should buy a few of these and place one in your car and one in your boat or RV.'

Inkjet Printer Ink - ink, pg-210xl

These cartridges both black and color start signalling low ink levels when you have used less than half. That means you can get good quality copying and printing for much longer.

NET take out the cartridges, gently shake em up then re-install. You will still get the low ink lights but I've made more than 100 copies after those lights appear. Seems to be a ploy to encourage waste of ink and therefore more sales for the cartridges. Canon PG-210XL Cartridge (Black) in Retail Packaging

Get the XL cartridges, not the regular PG-210s. According to Canon you get almost 2x more pages, for < 40% more money.

What does that mean? I emptied out my regular 210 cartridge within 1 month of rather light usage on my new Canon MP240 printer. The XL cartridge now in it is < 1/2 full but going on 6 weeks.

Soon 3rd parties will be selling replacements, but I got some OEM Canon carts for $9@ from sellers here on Amazon. You don't have to pay full price.

The 210XL has 66% more ink than the regular 210 cartridge. (15ml vs 9ml) And it isn't much more expensive, so save yourself some long term money and buy the XL.

And while you can go with a generic, certain consumer magazines have shown that generic cartridges and refill kits end up costing you more and giving you less quality than the manufacturer ink.

Didn't really count how many pages I could print with one cartridge, but it seemed like a lot. (I'm a college student so I print very frequently.) Quality is not compromised even when I set the print quality at "fast" (and the printer consequently uses less ink).

I got a bundled Canon MX340 with my recent purchase of a Mac Book Pro. The printer was set up in my home network such that anyone could print from their PC/Mac/Laptop. I needed to print a PDF file with over 250 pages and thus decided to buy a spare ink cart as I expected the one that came with the printer to run out (old Epson printer did about 150 pages on average). As expected the low ink warning came on at about page 12/13 (I assumed that others on the network had been using the ink for a fair bit). Replaced with a brand new 210 cart and resumed the printing. I got a rude shock when the low ink warning came back on after about 30 pages of print. Thinking it was an error or sensor malfunction, I decided to ignore it and continued printing. After the 38th page it was completely dry. The shocking thing was, I even set the printer to print on "fast", and color intensity on "-50" (as grey/light as possible to reduce ink ussage). I can't even begin to imagine what would have happened if I printed it on "Normal" or "High Quality".

This is a heads up to students, home offices and basically anyone who needs to print a fair bit, these guys run out fast. VERY FAST.

everything was as promised. worked perfectly with the printer i had and it was way cheaper than the stores' asking price and it has more ink than the regular 210. ill buy here again when it runs out. nice.

I don't do nearly as much printing as I did when I first got my printer, but this cartridge has lasted for more than half the semester now. I print weekly for numerous assignments so this cartridge has done wonders.

This product is a HOAX. I bought it along with the printer recently because my HP was guzzling ink. The XL cartridge only printed 30 or so pages (of 12 pt text) before being empty. The 'beginner' cartridge that came with the printer printed 5x that. What a joke. This product is more than defective. It's outright dishonest, what's the term... highway robbery??

I wouldn't waste my money if I were you. BTW, the printer's pretty sweet so far (that is if I can find a way to feed it reasonably)! - Ink - Canon Pixma Ink - Canon - Pg-210xl'

Outdoor Living - cast aluminum, patio

I bought two of these to go with my chaises. I absolutley love them. As an interior designer, I am recommending this line to one of my best customers (that could afford almost anything!) I made one modification to the ice buckets - I drilled a few holes in the bottom so the water would drain. Since these tables have an open filigree design on the tops, when it rains, the buckets will get water in them. I will mostly use the buckets to store suntan oils, sunscreen and bug sprays unless I am entertaining. Then, I will wash them and put them in the freezer to chill them a while before using them as icebuckets. Pop in a few plastic frozen igloo bricks on the bottom, and the ice might actually last several hours! Another idea would be to use them as planters and place some pretty colorful rocks on the top of the soil. I do really love the tables. Strathwood St. Thomas Cast Aluminum Side Table with Ice Bucket

The side table, was exactly how I pictured it, I was very pleased with the condition of the table. The ice bucket works well too. I have since, purchased more items in the Strathwood collection, due to the quality of the items. I purchased the items based on description, price, and other reviews. I am a very satisfied customer.

Love the table! My only wish is that the top was solid to keep rain/ debris out of the ice bucket. (It's the same cutout design as the remainder of the table.) Other than that, I highly recommend and would rate it a five-star purchase.

This table is wonderful. Looks amazing with our new outdoor furniture too! We are able to fit a bottle of wine and a few beers in the bucket at the same time and still have room for glasses and food around the rim. Very happy we purchased this. It is sturdy, easy to assemble and looks beautiful.

This Strathwood St Thomas Stuff is great. A third of the price of the equivalent quality at the high-end catalog place, beautiful and well made. We have the whole set, but I particluarly like these two tables, which I fit with flower pots in the center where the ice buckets go. A standard pot fits beautifully and they are beautiful with the flowers cascading over them.

I just put this together and the look is very high end and quality. It was easy to put together, came packaged professionally, and looks great on my deck! I bought it to go with the Strathwood falkner love seat and lounge chairs.

Compared to the prices anywhere else, it's such a steal!

Handy side table. Seems well built except the supposedly stainless steel ice bucket rusted quickly. In trying to get a repacement bucket, the manufacturer's website refers you to an Amazon customer service telephone number. However Amazon customer service does not handle the manufacturer's customer service. Amazon customer service said to call the manufacturer. When asked for a telephone number, Amazon said they did not have one (after 5 minutes of research). Amazon then said I needed to email the manufacturer, but did not have an email address. Amazon then said to google the manufacturer. I pointed out that the manufacturer's website refers people to Amazon customer service for replacement parts. I have sent an email to the manufacturer now. We shall see.

This is a wonderful little patio table, it fits everywhere, it looks very elegant, is is very reasonable priced, and it has an ice bucket in the center, which is not obvious to anybody. A very good buy. - Ice - Patio - Cast Aluminum - Side Tables'

Weighted Vest - weight vests, vest

I've been using the weighted vest now for 5+ weeks. I began with just power walking in it 5 days a week. Then added running of stairs in it for 2 minute intervals and then occasionally jogging in it. Within 2 weeks I noticed a large rip by the chest area on the left hand side. Luckily it is not a structural rip, but does make me nervous that it will not last so I've been reduced to only power walking with the vest 5 days a week and no running at all, as the material does not seem to be able to handle the added stress of bouncing. So if you are only going to be walking in it and not bouncing then this will work great for you. Valeo 20-Pound Weighted Vest

I've been using the Valeo weight vest for about eight weeks during daily, ~60-minute treadmill sessions. I've found it to be a great addition to my workouts as well as a comfortable and well constructed product.

Pros:

a) It fits comfortably with plenty of wide strap adjustments and snap buckles to keep it snug during workouts. This vest does not flap around during exercise.

b) It is well constructed- stitching is still solid, removable sand weights are easy to use, velcro holds weights securely. The vest has some reflective trim too for poor lighting situations on trails and roads. I have a hunch it will outlive my ability to jog with it!

Cons:

a) It's pretty expensive, tho' it should last forever...

b) The high right side, skinny "ipod pocket" is inconveniently placed and hard to open/close. Although the pocket functions, it'd be nice to have a small pocket that's easier to open with one hand and more conveniently located- for keys, headphones, cell, or ipod.

If I were buying this type of workout gear all over again, I'd happily buy this vest.

Bought this item for my son. With average use, (2-3 days a week) the vest did not last long. Investing in a more expensive vest would have saved money in the long run. Vest is frayed and torn around most of the seams. Again, poor, poor quality. Not worth the money.

I've had the vest for 2 months. It worked very well until I tried to run with it. The upper weights on the chest have torn from the seems. For $60, I expected the vest to last a lot longer. My mistake.

I just got this vest because I'm really into CrossFit and wanted to improve my performance. On the first day of use I did rowing, lunges and jump-roping. The workout lasted for approximately 28 minutes, and the vest was ruined. There were two large tears at the seams surrounding the top front weights, and the mesh had started ripping as well. If you're doing anything more active than walking, this vest is not for you.

The straps that wrap around the vest lose their tightness within a day or so, if you do intensive training. I would recommend it for those who simply want to power walk, but for those who intend to run... be wary of this flaw. Fact, I never got a chance to even run in it because when I started doing sit-ups and push-ups in it.

I would rate it much better if not for that one problem. However, that one flaw is (to me) the most important aspect of the vest, so it kills the score.

DO NOT BUY unless you plan to do exercises don't demand too much movement, i.e. running, jumping jacks, etc. The straps just can't hold up.

This vest is very comfortable, and the weight is distributed well. It is very easy to put on, tighten, and adjust. Also, I really like that you can very easily adjust the weight. I have used this vest since last Christmas, and it seems to be holding up pretty well even though I do a lot of quick movements while wearing it. However, do not run very much with this vest on; it shifts a lot and doesn't seem to be built for that. I don't use an iPod while exercising, but the location of the pocket seems strange to me. Other than that, I really have enjoyed this vest. - Fitness Gear - Valeo - Vest - Weight Vests'

Exercise Machine - fitness, exercise

Of the "consumer grade" elliptical trainers sold online and in some of the big box stores the E35 is one of the best. I've done a lot of research and the Sole has a smooth solid feel that many of the others (especially less expensive ellipticals) can't match.

The most important thing to remember is the best machine is the one you'll USE. If you have a jerky, clunky, noisy, or otherwise unpleasant elliptical you're less likely to use it regularly.

What you want in an elliptical is a solid frame that doesn't flex much when you really pound on it at higher resistance levels and work hard with your arms. If you try that on a cheaper machine, it will rock, flex, creak, squeek, clunk, etc. The E35 passes this test.

And you want a heavy flywheel (hidden inside) to smooth out the motion so it's not jerky. The resistance should feel constant throughout the stride. The E35 does. Front or rear "drive" doesn't seem to matter much.

You need good bearings at all the pivot joints to avoid "clunks" during the stride and keep it quiet. You also need good wheels that ride on solid tracks. Again, the E35 has all this.

Unless only shorter (as in under 5'10" or so) people will be using it, it's best to have a stride length around 20" not 17-18" like many of the cheaper models. For taller people a shorter stride feels "choppy" and isn't as fluid or pleasant. The E35 has a 20" stride.

The heart rate monitor grips tend not to work all that well when you're moving. That's true of even the $5000 club machines. As your hands move around on the sensors it confuses the electronics so your heart rate isn't that accurate or is only displayed sometimes. If you want accurate heart rate, use a chest strap. The E35 is somewhat rare in that it comes with a chest strap monitor (known as telemetric or telemetry). So that's a plus over other models including the Livestrongs.

The above are the most important. Everything else is much less important. Like the power elevation (incline) on the E35 works smoothly but doesn't make a huge difference in your workout (at least to me). A backwards (reverse) stride and changing your hand positions makes a much bigger difference.

The consoles all have various gimmicks and features but many of them won't get used much. The speakers for your iPod/MP3 player sound terrible--headphones work much better. The fan is a joke. You can't tell it's even on once you're working out. And fancy training routines add some variety but are not that likely to get used either. What usually works best is either a constant resistance, a ramp up-level off-and cool down routine, or an interval routine (hard/easy/hard/easy/etc.). Everything else is just kinda fluff--especially when it's easy enough to tap the resistance up and down yourself whenever you want during your workout.

Many manufactures play up the ergonomics of their machines. Some angle the foot pads in. Some (like the E35) have adjustable foot pads or variable strides. Some have the footpads closer together (like the Livestrong and Horizons). To be honest, unless you have really odd body mechanics, I think most of it is marketing hype. If you look at the $5000 machines, they typically have none of these features and are used by hundreds of different people a day at health clubs without any ergonomic issues.

It's worth knowing that Sole, Xterra and Esprit/Spirit are all made in China by the same parent company--Dyaco in headquartered in Taiwan with a US office in Jonesboro AR. Sole is mainly sold online and at Sears and Dicks Sporting Goods. Xterra has a different dealer network including some of the warehouse stores. Esprit and Xterra both have models similar to the E35.

Another big manufacture is Johnson that makes Horizon, Livestrong, Vision and AFG. Again, all the home grade products are actually made in China. I bring this up because Johnson has a better reputation for customer service than Dyaco. If you have a warranty issue, need parts, etc. you'll likely spend less time on hold with one of the Johnson brands.

NordicTrack, Schwinn and Nautilus are all the same company. And all seem to have more customer complaints. All 3 brands have been bought and sold sometimes more than once so don't assume because they were good in the past they still are.

ProForm is a favorite brand in the big box stores. And I couldn't find any that compare to the E35--but most are also cheaper.

I've compared the similarly priced Livestrongs to the E35 side by side and prefer the E35. The Livestrongs are nice but not as well made, had a few squeeks, and seem to have more complaints about problems on the various forums. The Horizon products (same company) have lots of bells and whistles but just don't feel right to me.

Vision makes some really nice ellipticals but they're mainly only sold through specialty fitness dealers and cost more than the E35. The same is true of Octane, Diamondback, Precor and Lifefitness. I've tried all of them. There's also Smooth, Star Trac, True and a few others with good reputations that I have't tried.

A good resource is treadmilldoctor dot com for relatively unbiased info on all the brands and brief comments on many of the models.

So that's my research and opinions. I hope it helps someone! The E35 is hard to beat for the price. Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer (2011 Model)

I recently purchased the Sole E35 2011 model after spending a few weeks online researching between the Sole, Norditrack, Horizon, and other top models. I then went and tried a few machines out at some local shops, and my choice landed on the E35.

Reasons I chose the E35 over the E25 or E95, was mainly the heavier wheel and the longer unit was the perfect sweet spot. I also was buying this unit for my wife as well.

I have used many precor's and other top models at the gym for years.

I will update this review as time progresses, so here is the recently purchased review.

After two days...

Install, as many others has stated the box unit is extremely heavy and large, very difficult to carry. We were keeping it on a ground level entrance so just two people was enough. It took 2 people about 2 hours to put the machine together. The directions are very good and its virtually impossible to put any part of it together wrong.

After first use, the machine is whisper quiet, and very smooth. I did a 30 minute workout on lowest incline and it was just exactly as you would expect from the machines at the gym. I'm a bigger guy (6'1 270) and it did not shake at all. I tested the MP3/speakers feature and it worked perfectly. The wireless heartrate chest monitor works flawlessly as well and was rather nice since my gym only has the handles.

So far I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Electric String Trimmer - cordless lawn tools, cordless string trimmer

The B&D NST 2118 is easy to assemble and works as advertised. I have about 500 feet of flower bed trimming, which this trimmer is able to accomplish (vertically and horizontally) using two batteries. The first battery gives me about 20 minutes of actual run time; the second allows me to finish the job with power to spare. I do not run the trimmer continuously, as it is better to let it (and me) rest and cool a bit from time to time.

When I plan to use the trimmer, I charge one battery the day before and the other the night before. There is no problem leaving the battery in the charger beyond the charge time; I just get a trickle charge after it is fully charged. I also do not need to run the battery down before charging, as it does not have memory cells.

I use a volt meter to test the battery after a few hours of charging. When the meter reads 20 volts, I consider it charged. All cells will have a surface charge and read a bit higher right after recharging. Occasionally the green light is still on when the battery is charged to 20 volts. This is normal.

A lot of people complain about battery run time. I have many linear feet of grass to trim and can finish this task with two batteries. If I couldn't, I would use a gas-powered trimmer.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this trimmer and the supplied batteries. I realize that batteries can be fickle and mine could lose their effectiveness sooner than the 2-3 years of predicted lifetime. Such are the chances one takes with battery-powered tools. Black & Decker NST2118 12-Inch 18-Volt Ni-Cd Cordless Electric GrassHog String Trimmer/Edger

I bought this trimmer because I had a Black & Decker that operated like this one, but it was not cordless. I love the Idea of not having a cord. The saleman told me that the batteries would last thirty to forty five minutes. I did what the instrustions said and charged the batteries and did just light weedeating, down the driveway and started down the side of the house. It wasn't long the battery was dead. I changed the battery. I looked at my watch and continued weedeating. The Battery only lasted ten minutes. I loaded it back in the box and returned it to the store where I bought it.I got the electric model and love it even if I do have to use a drop cord. The battery opperated model would have been fantastic if the battery had lasted like I was told by the saleman. I hope this will help someone with their decission on which Trimmer/Eder to buy.

This product works exactly as described. I bought one six years ago and worked it to death. It finally died this morning and I am ordering a replacement of the exact same machine. The batteries held their charge and I was able to use the two batteries to weed eat, edge and finally use the companion blower to blow off the porches and driveway on one charge on only the two batteries. Changing the line is easy peasy. Snap out the old cartridge and snap in the new one. This machine works great.

I have two 3/4 acre yards to cut/maintain (not at the same time) and i seriously doubt anyone is getting 20-30 minutes of continues run time. I feel that I am proficient at trimming/edging,no back and forth swinging, pull the trigger, drop and go. That being said I have light/moderate grass and was surprised how much I got done in 13 minutes. A 40ftx140ft perimeter for the house, 3 trees, 30ft driveway (one side), 20ftx24ft work shop and a 40ft fence line (both sides). with the 2nd battery I was able to cut my front ditch (3ftx160ft) with thick grass(10 minute run time). No edging, so that left the 3rd battery for touch up.

The second yard is more difficult and is mostly edging and thick grass with fallen dried Palm tree leaves mixed in year round. 1st battery trimmed the 80ftx80ftx80ft shrub/tree line (13 minutes). 2nd battery trimmed two sides of a 40ftx160ft house and around a large rooted Oak tree and 2ftx10ft patch by the mailbox (13 minutes). again, 3rd battery for touch up

Now for the edging. this is a first for the second property, so the St.Augustine was badly overgrown. Needless to say it took 3 batteries the first day and 3 the second day to finish. Each battery lasted 7 minutes, but I was impressed that the motor never bogged or choked down. The only issue was having to lift the trimmer up so the string could get cut by the auto-feed. 3 weeks later, touch up work used only 2 batteries. This time for 13 minutes each.

Batteries seem to run 100% up to the 13 minutes before loosing it strength to cut, but I don't run them dead. In a months time, I've cycled these batteries 5 times, and the run time is the same and charge time is still 9 hours. I research this before hand, so I new the risks, from reading other reviews from other brands, 10-15 minutes seems to be the norm. For $106 OTD and a free battery (3 total) it gets the job done and am very impressed with it. the only minor negative is IMO a 3rd battery is a must. It also seems most of the weight is at the battery end and holding the trigger and carrying it, gets my forearm tired by the time I'm finished especially when having to use all 3 batteries consecutively. Within the 30 day return policy, I feel I have tested this trimmer pretty well and plan on keeping it.

I can no longer handle the standard trimmer with all the cord. By the time I got it all unwound to get to the back of the yard I was too tired to use it and then all that winding the cord around the arm leads to almost fainting. This is a Godsend. It is light enough for me to swing it back and forth and it does a great job. No tapping to keep the sting advancing. The battery lasts about 20 min and that is all I last and in fact am allowed to work in yard. Getting the 2 batteries is great.

My only problem was putting it together The black shield was hard to get in place by myself but I finally did. I got a pack of the pre rolled string which is quite handy when they empty I will keep them wound with less expensive by the big pack thread. I am still on the original. I have used it quite a bit and even to cut down foot high grass so the yard can dry to be mowed.

Great product. I have now ordered the hedge trimmer that is 18v, no more cutting the electric cord. - Cordless Trimmer - Cordless Lawn Tools - Cordless String Trimmer - Cordless Weed Whacker'
