Extended Productive Life

This review is written by a former hospital administrator of just under 2 decades. I have been studying health and nutrition for more than decade. I became very interested in alternative medicine when a family member was diagnosed with kidney cancer and the allopathic doctors (traditional MD's) could give no reason for the tumor.

If you have not read one of Dr. Weil's books before, I think you will enjoy his writing style. His tone is very conversational, you feel as though you are talking to a friend while you are reading his books, this one included. Dr. Weil has a gift for taking a dry and complicated subject and explaining it in a manner that anyone can understand. The purpose of this book is NOT to stop aging, but rather to prevent or minimize the impact of age-related disease, to learn how to live long and well, and to age gracefully.

He subdivides his book as follows:

PART ONE: The Science and Philosophy of Healthy Aging

1. Immortality

2. Shangri-Las and Fountains of Youth

3. Antiaging Medicine

4. Why We Age

5. The Denial of Aging

6. The Value of Aging

7. Interlude: Jenny

PART TWO: How to Age Gracefully

8. Body I: The Ounce of Prevention

9. Body II: The Anti-inflammatory Diet

10. Body III: Supplements

11. Body IV: Physical Activity

12. Body V: Rest and Sleep

13. Body VI: Touch and Sex

14. Mind I: Stress

15. Mind II: Thoughts, Emotions, and Attitudes

16. Mind III: Memory

17. Spirit I: Unchanging Essence

18. Spirit II: Legacy

A TWELEVE PROGRAM FOR HEALTHY AGING

Appendix A: The Anti-inflammatory Diet

Appendix B: Suggested Readings, Resources and Supplies

The doctor does a wonderful job of explaining why and how we age. Even without an educational background in the sciences I was able to comprehend advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and how they cross link (form abnormal bonds) to adjacent protein strands leading to inflammatory and autoimmune responses. If you have been reading much about nutrition or health lately you know that inflammation is the new "hot topic" in medicine linked to almost everything. According to Cardiologists inflammation is more important in determining heart health than cholesterol. After reading Dr. Weil's explanation of inflammatory response this concept now makes much more sense to me.

Dr. Weil explains in great detail which nutrients the body requires to function properly and how to incorporate them into your life. He also goes into much detail about dietary suggestions. These are pretty much what you would expect, but he does a thorough job of explaining why he is making these recommendations, which I personally find very helpful.

The doctor also goes into great detail regarding his recommendations for physical activity and how this should change as we age. The concept of a pool disinfected without chlorine was new to me, and one that I was very happy to know is an option.

If you want to age gracefully, but feel as though you need more information, this is a wonderful book on the subject. I highly recommend this book to baby boomers looking for information on how to minimize or eliminate the impact of disease in our lives as we grow older. Healthy Aging: A Lifelong Guide to Your Physical and Spiritual Well-Being

My wife and I bought three books recently to help re-charge our health and fitness motivation. They were: Slow Burn by Fredrick Hahn, and then two books recommended by a health guru friend, Joe X by Avery Hunicutt, and this book, Healthy Aging by Andrew Weil. To make a long story short we gave thumbs-down to the Slow Burn workout (too painful) and thumbs-up to the Joe X workout(something we enjoy doing). As for Healthy Aging, with some embarrassment, I highly recommend this book. I say with embarrasment because, while I had never read any of Dr. Weil's previous books, I used to think he was some kind of a new-age nut & berry quack. I'm guilty of judging books by their cover; not used to associating a portly, bearded, bald guy with fitness. I was wrong and now publicly appologize for my pig-headedness. He may eat nuts and berries, but he's definitely not a quack, and now I wouldn't be surprised if he out lives all of us.

The book is much more grounded on hard science than I expected. And though there is a good amount of science in the book, there is nothing to fear. Dr. Weil has an engaging and polished writing style. He not only makes it easy for the lay person to follow along, but he makes medical research an interesting story, an enjoyable read. I now understand why his books have become so popular: he knows how to communicate. The first hint that my opinion of him was all wet was his discussion of the battle going on behind the scenes between the hard core medical researchers and the "fountain of youth" profiteers (my term, not his). I expected the author to side with those that believed the aging process could at least be suspended if not reversed. To my surprise he did not. In fact the underlying theme of the entire book is that people are making a mistake if they lead their lives as if life extension and age reversing technology are upon us. He makes a strong technical case and almost a desperate plea to not succumb to the snake oil. His recommendation is to forget about anti-aging schemes and avoid obscesing about life extension. Instead he says to focus on preventing or minimizing the impact of age-related disease and how to age gracefully. It may not be the message we want to hear but I suspect it is the more correct choice. In any case, I found Dr. Weil's telling of the political battle taking place fascinating, and it makes it easier to understand what's going on with the sensationalizing headlines and sales pitches I see in the popular press and TV.

I next expected the book to be all generalities with few specifics my wife and I could actually do to help us "age gracefully." I was wrong again. The second half of the book is filled with actionable specifics, much having to do with diet, but many other non-diet matters as well. Some times he would get very specific, e.g. not just any olive oil but what kind of olive oil, that kind of thing. Throughout the book I was impressed by how the author always gave both sides of an argument in seemingly unbiased fashion before giving his recommendation and why. And I learned quite a few things I didn't know. One small example: I've noted how popular press diet doctors have steered folks away from carrots because of their higher glycemic index number. Dr. Weil explains why this doesn't make a lot of sense (better to make choices based on glycemic load number, not glycemic index number).

Finally, there is another underlying theme in this book that I think has a lot of merit: Dr. Weil puts much faith (based on science of course) in the concept of minimizing and managing inflammation in the body. As always he explains what it is, why it happens, the good, the bad, and then why he recommends what he does with regard to diet, medication, and exercise. My wife and I also now understand why our guru friend recommended the two books he did, as they are very complimentary. For all I know we are the last two people that had never read an Andrew Weil book, and all this is old news to you. If not, order yourself a copy or get to the library now.'

Grooming Tools

The clamp to reduce the loop for the head is easy to use. Just squeeze and slide. I'm not certain about the comfort of the rubber (at least it feels like rubber) padding around the wire, because it grips a bit too much rather than slide. I'm afraid it'll catch hair or rub the skin excessively. The wire is a bit stiff too compared to the yarn like loop we got with our grooming table. The item does prevent our puppy from sitting down and fits the Maltese profile pretty well. No-Sit Haunch Holder Dog Grooming Restraint Sm Med Dogs

This little device is very practical and well made. It does a great job of keeping my dogs from sitting down. It's well cushioned, so the dogs don't seem to find it uncomfortable. The grooming process is much faster on my strong-willed terriers.

MY 20 LBS MIX IS RESTLESS ON THE GROOMING TABLE AND THIS RESTRAINT WORKS JUST FINE. IT IS A LITTLE CUMBERSOME TO PUT THE DOG INTO BUT ONCE ON PROPERLY THE DOG IS A LOT EASIER TO GROOM ESPECIALLY AROUND THE HYGIENE AREA. ACTUALLY, HE IS EASIER TO GROOM ALMOST ALL AROUND SINCE HE CAN'T KEEP SITTING DOWN DURING THE GROOMING. I'M OVERALL PLEASED WITH THIS PURCHASE.

Very simple construction. Coated steel to protect from being chewed, and padding adds a degree of comfort for the dog. Works a little "stiffly" at first (but this may improve over time in use). Heavy duty clip at top to attach to a grooming arm is nice and sturdy. (I use the No-Sit Haunch DG Restraint with my adjustable height, Therapet Folding Grooming Arm). Ideal for smaller breeds! (Would not fit a large breed around the waist, but it is fine for a maximum weight 20 lb. dog, such as my largest, a poodle.) The dog's head fits through the neck opening and then you widen the back hoop to slip on around the waist that way. The legs, tail and hips of the dog must fit through the back hoop and then the hoop can be made smaller around the waistline by cinching to adjust. (The cinching is the part that works stiffly). My dogs are fairly well-mannered when it comes to grooming so it was no problem, but I felt getting it on my larger dog was mildly clumsy. The newness or stiffness made it awkward to place around my largest (poodle), yet the design is straightforward and once secured on the dog, it works! The dog is unable to sit. Great for my smaller, older dog (a toy poodle) who gets tired of standing. Great instrument to keep dog steady on its feet while doing precision legwork. I take them out of the restraint for body work. My friend, a professional groomer who saw it, said she would love having a No-Sit Haunch Dog Grooming Restraint for some of her hard-to-keep-standing 4-legged clients. I'm glad to have it in my grooming kit despite its initial (stiffness) and awkwardness (which is why I gave it a 4-star rating instead of a 5).

It helps keep the dog stable and restrained, while being easy to adjust during grooming. I have a Schnauzer Mini and it is invaluable during her haircuts. I did not buy the stand. I added a plastic loop to the top, and I hang the Holder from the knob of a cabinet while I trim my Schnauzer on a counter.

This contraption has helped me immensely in grooming my hyper dog!! The only problem I have is that I thought the arm came with it but that was my fault for not reading good. Again, it is invaluable in grooming my dog who the groomer wrote "never again" on his card. Thanks.

Works well to keep dog in place. However, if there is a trick to using it for a very small dog, I have yet to find it. I have a small circular table and the arm reaches up only so high and my little Pom-a-poo can sit down still. So I have to try to hold her up by the back lead to trim her.'

A simple product, well made, well engineered - shipped miserably. When the row is broken up, you end up loading 1/2 rows. Still, they worked fine. I do wish they would just securely tape the box - all sides, even the bottom, then UPS cannot break into a brick. Placing it in a larger box with popped plastic bags was silly. Multimaster Accessories - e-blade, multimaster accessories

The so-called "bi-metallic" design of these blades refers to the fact that the blade itself is a different type of metal than the spot-welded plate the blade is attached to. It does not imply that the cutting part of the blade has two types of metal.

It would make sense for any high-speed power tool to make the blade of HSS steel to withstand the heat. But these don't. At this price, they could give you carbide-tipped teeth or at least induction-hardened teeth. Even Japanese HAND SAWS have induction hardened teeth... why not these?

Profit. Not just an honest fair profit, but exorbitant greedy profiteering profit. That does NOT mean these are bad; they are just overpriced.

Don't imagine they have you over a barrel though. The metal in these blades is soft enough that you CAN re-sharpen them! I do that with diamond needle files. Even with youthful vision, you need high-power magnification and good lighting. Nowadays, I have to use magnifying glasses AND a jeweler's magnifying lamp. It only takes a few minutes of careful filing and the edges come right back though!

One note: The "precision" Holz blade ( for wood ) pictured here on the right has a slightly different tooth-geometry than the other two blades. The others are very simple to sharpen, just like rip-cut hand saws, only much smaller. The "precision Holz" blade's teeth are similar to Japanese crosscut teeth, so they are more challenging to sharpen. If you've ever tried to sharpen Japanese saws, you will know what I mean. You can get small diamond files cheaply, but I have yet to find any file slender enough to file the "precision Holz" style teeth effectively.

I know some pro-remodelers who swear by their Fein MultiMasters, but they go through blades fast, especially when cutting abrasive materials. That's why I got interested in sharpening these things in the first place. I don't have much use for the oscillating tools myself, so I do not have much experience with them. But I do know this...

Now that the patent has expired on this type of tool, Fein no longer has its strangle-hold on the market. You might have seen the battery-powered model that Bosch makes or the Dremel powered model. What you might not yet know is that you can get a beefy powered model from Harbor Freight tools for forty bucks and it is remarkably similar to the power and durability of the higher-priced competitors. It isn't pretty and does not have the nifty quick-blade-change feature of Fein, but it cuts exactly the same.

Another money-saving tip... The cheap tool does not have nibs to fit the star-shaped holes in these Fein blades. If you attach them with screw-pressure alone, they have a tendency to slip.

No Problem! Just dab a little Loctite screw compound on the blade, screw it down firmly and wait one minute. The blade sticks well enough to hold in place, but will come off easily enough when it's time to replace it. Also, the replacement blades that Harbor Freight sells are substantially less expensive, yet are of similar design and quality... which is to say, not great. But hey, if you just need the tool once in a while, it works just fine... not Fein.. but FINE. (Sorry, couldn't resist ;-)

My buddy keeps TWO of these cheap oscillating saws on hand for renovating bathrooms and kitchens. Instead of switching blades, he switches saws. On one saw he keeps a metal-cutting blade for pipes and such. The other sports a larger semi-circular blades for tile and grout. At forty bucks a saw and seven bucks per blade, both saws and blades cost less than one Dremel or Rockwell version, and MUCH less than the good but expensive Fein. He keeps both saws plugged in and can switch between them faster than any quick-change mechanism can switch blades. He learned to sharpen some of these blades and doesn't even bother removing the blades to re-sharpen them. He just clamps the whole tool to his saw-horse, or holds the thing in one hand while he sharpens with the other. He has been using those tricks for over a year now... same blades, same cheap saws. No problems other than blade slippage, and the Loctite took care of that!

So... bottom line. If you are not a pro and don't need the quick change feature of the expensive Teutonic tool, get the cheap one and the cheap blades. Use Loctite Sumu-glue or Loctite Red thread-locking compound to hold blades securely.

If you are a pro and must have the superb Fein tool and expensive blades, get a set of cheap diamond needle files. They will work on most of the blades and you can save a ton of money on blade replacement. Fein 63502127040 MultiMaster E-Cut Combo Kit for Fein MultiMaster

I bought this after trying the Porter Cable detail sander and returning it on their satisfaction guaranteed offer. Enough said. This product comes on a card with little to no instructions. Not that it takes rocket science to figure it out. But for some odd reason putting the head on at certain angles it wants to unscrew itself as soon as I turn the machine on.The sandpaper is cloth backed 55mm x 75mm. It holds up well and stays put with the spring clips. I intend to start replacing it with a 3" belt sander belt that I trim off in 55mm lengths. Then I can get the quality and grits that I want.About the only problem I've had is if the head jumps out of the area, you end up with some nasty pigtails. There are also a limited number of profiles and they don't seem to correspond with common US profiles (e.g., 3/8" cove).Despite my negative comments, it does work fairly well and I'd probably buy it again knowing what I know now.

This tool is absolutely fabulous for doing the few things you will need it for, but and this is a BIG but (pun alert!) the replacement blades are VERY expensive--no joke, check the prices. The profile sanding attachment doesn't work worth a darn. Because of the rotary-vibratory motion of tool, the ends of the little piece of sandpaper do all the work and the center does nothing. - Fein Multimaster - Multimaster Accessories - E-blade - Fein Multi Master Attachments'

Stainless Steel - kindle, watches

I bought this watch to use while traveling. Day to day, I use my mobile phone as a watch. Obviously that doesn't work on long flights, and I usually don't get a SIM card to use my phone when I'm in foreign countries. This watch filled the gap admirably on my recent trip. I banged it on things a few times while dragging luggage onto elevators and such, and it came through just fine.

It's a reasonably handsome watch, and the leather band seems high quality and durable. It has the old-fashioned stem for setting time, and setting the date the first time is quite tedious because you have to spin through all the days (or at least I have not discovered a short cut for that). However, this is what we all did before digital watches, so it's a minor annoyance.

This is nice enough to wear to formal events, and rugged enough to use just about anywhere. I'm glad I got it. Even though I have not worn a watch in six years, having this thing on my recent plane/train intensive trip was a major convenience. Wenger Swiss Military Men's 62935-16908 Classic Field Black Leather Watch and Swiss Army Knife Gift Set

i purchased this watch for my husband for his father's day gift. He really liked the look of it. When he put it on the fit was really good, the watch that he has now turns on him because of the band and he has to turn the face of the watch to see it. He has decided that he is going to keep this watch for wearing when he is not at work. I am really happy with the purchase, and would buy it again.

I love this watch. I've had it for a week now and just enjoy wearing it. The bright numbers against the dark background, along with a larger sized dial, make it just so easy to read, especially when I only have a fraction of a second to take a quick glance while leading a group. I have a small wrist, so the band fits into the next to smallest hole, but it is comfortable. This was a gift to myself and I really am loving it.

A person must know what they are looking for in a watch. For my part I was looking for durability, legibility, and accuracy. Time will tell about the durability but it appears to be very well made. It is excellent in legibility and accuracy. I don't believe I have ever paid this much for a watch but I don't regret the investment. I am looking forward to many years ahead with this timepiece.

Okay.. I purchased this watch to replace a Timex Weekender that I previously purchased. The Timex kept loosing time and I've owned Wenger watches before so I forked over the extra $40. So far so good. The leather band is stiff but that will change after a day or two of wear.

The watch face is large and the numbers big making it ideal for my aging eyes to read. The watch is solid and some may find it heavy if your coming from a lighter weight digital watch. It's much heavier than the older field watches Wenger used to make.

All in all, no regrets. I do wish they had a backlight feature but I'll learn to live without. No regrets on spending the extra cash for a quality watch.

O BOUGHT IT FOR FATHER'S DAY... MY DAD WAS AMAZED BY THE GIFT SET AND ITS CONTENT! THE KNIFE IS VERY USEFUL AND EASY TO CARRY EVERYWHERE... THE WATCH IS THE PERFECT COMPLIMENT! THE BEST THING: ITS PRICE! - E-reader - Watches - Ebook - Kindle'

Refillable Lighter - torch, refillable

Pros:

1. Has a separate on-off switch, easier to turn off, other similar torches usually only have a gas valve.

2. This item has good quality of metal finishing.

Cons:

1. Not good for a torch.

2. Hard to light.

This item is fine if you are going to use it for soldering, because if you move the torch around an object to heat it, most of the time, the flame will go off, as the other reviewer has stated. (after it goes off, you can still hear the strong hiss of gas flow, so it is not a gas amount problem) This usually won't happen when you solder, because you will hold the pencil with certain angle towards the spot you are soldering. Besides, this item is hard to light, you have to hold your match right at the tip for a while to light, before it is fully ignited you will see the flame goes on and off. Other torches I have, they just take one click of the piezo button to light. Bernzomatic ST200T Micro Butane Torch

This little torch is a real bargain! It is hotter by half again than the Blazer pencil torch and it will hold enough butane to do a full job! I am surprised by the functionality of this one.

It is easily controlled and the flame will pinpoint. I use the Smith Little Torch in my shop (making gold and silver jewelry) but this little gem is now right on the bench stand beside it! No gauges, no hoses, no hassles! Quick an easy~ It is GREAT! (I wanted to say it is the bomb... but it seemed a bad choice for something you set fire to.:)

--- About lighting it ---

When it is cold, it needs to be on for a few seconds before you light it. Like any torch, you will want to turn it down before lighting it. It has not been a problem for me, but I read in other reviews that it has been for some.

--- about staying lit ---

I have not had it blow itself out even once!!! AMAZING for any small handheld butane torch!!!

--- --- I love it.

Bernzomatic ST200T Micro Butane Torch

I bought mine after I lost the one from my Bernzomatic soldering kit: Berzomatic Micro Torch Kit Includes 3 Soldering Tips. It works fine on highly filtered Bernzomatic butane fuel: Bernz-O-Matic BF9. The only thing lacking is a piezo igniter, which some similar products have, though at much higher cost. That is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

Some people have complained that the flame gets weaker over months of use, and claim that this is caused by using less pure lighter butane. I can't verify this since I've always used Bernzomatic fuel, and the torch sips fuel. I have found that this can happen if you don't hold the pressurized butane canister in place for more than a few seconds when refilling.

Be sure to check out the Bernzomatic soldering kit. In addition to this torch, it contains several soldering tips, a catalytic soldering adapter (which you screw the tips to,) solder, a tip cleaning pad and a sturdy plastic case. Since I bought it, I haven't gone back to using any of my electric soldering irons. The variety of tips makes soldering small or large connections incredibly easy, there's no cord to get in the way, and you don't need access to power if you're working outdoors.

I mainly use this for soldering, but sometimes i like to use it as a torch. Both uses work brilliantly. First off for the people who have trouble lighting the torch with the soldering attachments or as a torch: Turn down the butane setting to 1-2 then light. The torch will light every time without fail. Keeping the torch on 3 and 4 butane strength setting pushes far too much butane to light the torch. For the people who have trouble refilling the torch: hold butane can down for 2 seconds on the pen torch until u get a drop or 2 of butane, then release and press a few more times to top off. I've never run out of fuel on any soldering or torch job I've ever used this torch for. Some people think that its not filling, because its so quick to refill, but you're wrong, it is that quick.

Excellent product for a retail price of 5.50 at home depot. if you want more power, self lighting, or a better overall product, spend more money. This is the best torch/solder pen for the price.

I own 2 of these now. One in my office for electronics soldering and one in the garage for everything else. over a year of use on the first one, and still performing the same as the first day. Note: I only use Benzo fuel.

I bought this at the local hardware store as an 'emergency' purchase for a small soldering job. Like other users I initially found it very difficult to light, but have now discovered the trick - if the manufacturers put this in the instructions they'd probably get a lot better reviews.

1) Screw the soldering attachment in place.

2) Push the plastic 'knob' (next to the plastic screw on the soldering attachment), against spring pressure up towards the soldering tip. Hold it there, exposing the oval hole.

3) Turn gas flow to high (position 3 or 4).

4) Turn gas on, pushing red trigger up.

5) Light the torch through the oval hole exposed in 2).

6) IMPORTANT - Wait - you will see the torch burning, but you need to get the grid above it red hot. This takes about 30 seconds to a minute (depends on temperature).

7) Let the knob go quickly, so spring returns to normal position 'instantly'.

8) The flame WILL go out, but the burning continues inside the grill - check that it is still glowing red (or even white) through the small hole near the tip.

9) Turn the gas down (unless you're soldering very heavy cables)

Having learned this, I'm fairly happy with the iron, and can light it every time. It is solidly built and is well balanced for soldering, and very inexpensive, but wouldn't give it a 5 for the following reasons:

- Manufacturer should have included these instructions for lighting.

- No built in lighter

- Difficult to control temperature (position 4 is way too hot, and position 1 barely melts solder; I now tend to leave in position 2 for most normal work)

My main use is as a soldering iron. I did quickly try using it as a torch, and had the same problems other reviewers reported - if the gas setting is at anything other than 4, it will blow out if moved suddenly or 'waved around'. - Refillable - Micro - Butane - Torch'

Toothbrush Holders - toothbrush holders, holder

After thinking about what goes on in the bathroom I wanted to find something to protect my daughters toothbrush so I got this. She loves zebras so I couldn't pass it up. It does everything you want it to, protects the toothbrush, looks cute and keeps the toothbrush off the counter. I do think it is a little pricey for a little piece of plastic the opens and shuts (not by its self). In the end I guess it's worth it because it is my daughter I am protecting. Flipper Animal World Toothbrush Holder, Giraffe

I read about Flipper on [...], and they raved about the product, and after purchasing it, I could not agree more. My kids love it! they actually look forward to brushing now that they have their favorite animal hugging there toothbrush.

I bought this as a gift to my friends as an apartment warming gift (: They love it! The only thing about it is it can fit a normal size toothbrush not an electric one by crest that I have sadly. But overall it does its job and keeps the toothbrush clean, easy to put it in and pull it out! (:

I was impressed... it really works well. It is easy to push in the toothbrush by pushing in and easy to remove it by pulling it out. When putting the toothbrush in, just push it in there and it snaps closed. Pull the toothbrush and it snaps open. No need to touch the bristles or the unit itself with your hands.

I question the pricing though. Some designs are much more than others and the prices can vary significantly. If I hadn't got it for the price I did, and paid more, then I'd probably have to reduce my rating due to poor value. While the unit is nice, I don't think it's worth what they want for the ones going for the higher prices.

This is a really cute toothbrush holder. It is smaller than I thought but still really cute. It only covers the top of the toothbrush and you have to stick it on the mirror. It sticks to the mirror without falling and it is easy to get the toothbrush in and out of the holder. Very cute!!

This toothbrush holder is so cute! I was afraid it wouldn't fit my toothbrush, but it did. It should fit most standard adult and children's toothbrushes. I would suggest leaving the stomach of the animal open, exposing the toothbrush to prevent the inside from smelling moldy. I would say only close it when necessary, like when using cleaning products around the area your toothbrush holder is in. It works well for it's intended use and is pretty sturdy as it is suctioned to my bathroom mirror. It is also very cute to look at; it puts a smile on my face every morning.

I love this little guy. I had wanted one of these toothbrush holders for a while and I finally decided on the Giraffe. He looks so cute. However, the top suction cup (there are two) doesn't like to stick so i often find my little friend leaning away from the wall. I simply re-stick the top suction cup and I'm good to go. He hasn't fallen off and I'm not worried. I figure I can always replace the suction cup if need be. It is a good buy for anyone. - Oral Hygiene - Toothbrush - Holder - Toothbrush Holders'

Book Stands - bookstand, cookbook stand

On the positive side, this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. In fact, now that I've been using it for several months, I cannot imagine life without it. It's so much better for your posture and you can really fly through books.

On the downside, it's a pretty "clunky" device and not the highest quality, especially considering the sky-high price. I suspect a lot more people would be interested if the price was under $50 and the quality and overall look were more impressive. It's a good idea that they have here, though.

If you do decide to get one, be sure to get the clip light that goes with it. Levo - DBH - Desk Model Reading Book Holder - Black

The Levo bookholder is adjustable, sturdy, and makes reading a pleasure.

Before, I had pain in the neck and left shoulder, so that I thought it might be my heart, but, when, with my doctor's advice to purchase a book holder,I purchased Levo, my neck and shoulder problems disappeared. George Yana.

Really reluctant to pay the rather high price for this, I decided - after a thorough, but fruitless, search for alternatives - that it looked so close to what I wanted that I would.

No need to have worried: it's extremely well-made. Very robust. High quality materials. Easy to assemble (next to none needed). Well-made joints and swivels etc. Nicely finished. Good customer service from the manufacturers too.

It clamps firmly and stably to a desk, never wobbles, and is adjustable in every direction and on every plane that you might need.

The system of strapping books open and holding pages back with lightly-sprung retainers works perfectly.

It holds even quite heavy/bulky books in place just where you want them without your worrying that it's not strong enough. It is - with strength to spare!

So, Yes, it is costly. But it does its job exceedingly well; there appears to be nothing else similar.

So for durability, reliability and flexibility, this can be safely recommended. - Bookstand - Book Stands - Cookbook Stand - Book Stand'

Component Cable - cable, hdtv

Yes, it's 480p. So what?

When I played Zelda pre-component cable, it looked good. There's no point here in comparing to the XBOX 360 or PS3, because they aren't TRYING to do HD...

However, when I put the component cables on, I noted an immediate improvement in the detailing of the game. It's not true HD, but it definately improves what you see when you are on a HD TV. I would recommend this to anyone. Nintendo Wii Component Cable AV Cable for HDTV/EDTV High Definition 480p

Fantastic Value. Does exactly what it should. The plastic/rubber of the cables is slightly sticky feeling which is mildly annoying as I need to switch this with my DVD cables relatively often but there is no cheaper way to get component from the Wii.

I recently upgraded my TV to an HDTV and was extremely disappointed in the quality of the picture of the Nintendo Wii coming in via the standard RCA composite cables- Because an HDTV is essentially progressive technology, a composite SD signal is de-interlaced by the TV. This basically means that half the resolution (which is analog SD to begin with) is removed from the picture and it is up to the TV to "rebuild" the bits of missing picture... which it's not so great at.

The result is a softened picture with spots of bad (unsmooth) motion and additionally, this process takes a bit of time so there is a hair of a delay... this isn't a problem for most video, but since it's a video game system, you need the responsiveness of your actions to be immediately reflected on screen! Playing a game with a delay in the picture feels like fixing a watch with gardening gloves on.

The component cable sends a Progressive image that, while still Standard Definition, doesn't require the de-interlace process, which makes a TON of difference. Colors are more vibrant, the image is crisper and the delay is gone completely! Motion is smooth and precise. This cable is usually found for more then $30 or $40, but I was able to find it on Amazon via a 3rd party vendor for less then $5 (plus shipping) - a great deal.

Get this if you have a Wii and an HDTV... you NEED it.

Why pay $20-$30 for the same cable? This cable works just as well; I had an expensive cable and then bought this one. The results: same high quality picture and sound. The other cable went back to the store and I saved over $20.

delivered in a timely fashion, this cable provides a noticeable difference over the composite cable that comes standard with the wii. I can't see where paying any more for a cable will make any more difference. the Wii is in a noisy environment and there is no signal degradation with this cable.

This product works just great and it came faster than expected. But, as someone noted eairlier, the cables don't strech very far, and it is impossible for me to reach my TV and surround receiver at the same time. If you are looking for great picture and are not too worried about surround sound, then this is the perfect thing.

It works as described and is much cheaper than the one from Nintendo. The picture looks fantastic on my HDTV now that it is properly connected. I would definitely recommend this option if you want to save money.

This is a cable. Cables should work. This works. Dont buy the more expensive one, that would be really stupid. Buy the cheapest one possible.

Whenever you buy cables that transmit a digital signal, just get the cheapest one because with digital, you either get the signal or you don't...aka either the cord works or it doesn't. If it does work, it will work perfectly. If it doesn't work, you return it and get a new one. So yeah, get this.

So it works as it should, price is awesome, but 480p is just not as great at I hoped. I guess I should have got an 360 if I wanted HD quality eh? One thing, make sure you change the video setting on your Wii, or you really won't notice a difference... :) - Component Cable - Cable - Hdtv - 480p'

Best Running Shoes - saucony, wide toe box

I bought these shoes one year ago, after meeting with a personal trainer and discussing the possibility of having to give up running! I love running and the thought of having to quit would have been devastating, but I could not continue to do the damage to my knees that running was causing.

I never knew that I had a problem with flat feet and over-pronation. When the trainer explained this to me and recommended a shoe designed to correct this problem, I thought it was just a gimmick to get me to buy an expensive shoe, but figured I had nothing to lose. I bought the Saucony Womens Grid Resolve Motion Control Running Shoe and tried it.

I also thought that at best, I'd slowly have to get used to it (because it is a much thicker sole than I'm used to) and that my sore knees might slowly begin to improve, but after the first use and my first run in them, I was shocked at how well I did. I did not get a single blister (which I have experienced with every other new running shoe), my knees did NOT ache after my run, and I didn't even have any soreness in my body!

I will definitely buy these shoes again. I just hope they don't decide to change up the design and name, making it more difficult to find them when it comes time to buy a new pair. Saucony Women's Grid Resolve Motion Control Running Shoe,White/Silver/Red,8 M

I wore my first pair of these until they were completely worn out (for years). This is my second pair and I and consider them my favorite pair. I would buy them, again. I have a bad ankle, and these shoes make it easier to walk. - Overpronation - Womens-newbalan - Saucony - Wide Toe Box'
