Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder - translucent

I've been using this item for years and apparently it has been discontinued in stores. I'm so glad that I was able to find it at Amazon. I received it within a few days and it's exactly what I was looking for. I have no complaints at all and highly recommend people to check Amazon for items that are no longer available in stores. Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder 2.3oz/65g Translucent 070-24

I used this powder religiously throughout my teen years when I was first discovering the joys of my mother's make up cabinet. Later, I switched to pressed powder compacts because they were more convenient to carry, but often they made my fair skin turn orange. So I have returned to this old favorite. It matches my skin tone perfectly, and even the reddest blemishes disappear under its smooth, natural coverage. I do find that I have to apply it more often during warmer months. In fall and winter, it lasts nearly all day, but in summer, when my skin is especially oily, I have to reapply every few hours.

My only other complaint is that the vintage cardboard packaging isn't very practical. Whenever I open the lid, great clouds of the face powder explode from the jar, covering every inch of surface area in the room. I suppose if you needed to make a quick get away, you could easily confuse your enemy and escape in a great puff of Coty, but it's not a very practical feature for those of us who aren't spies or bank robbers. Fortunately, Coty has introduced a new plastic jar with a removable sifter inside, so now it's mess-free (and travel-friendly). - Translucent'

Console Shooter - shooter, bad company 2

As I am a huge fan of BFBC1, COD4MW and CODMW2, I will not make direct comparisons. They are all great in their own way. I will say that this game is a bigger improvement from BC1, than MW2 is from MW1...if that means anything to you.

The graphics are a less "cartoon-ish", for lack of a better word.

The controls are better IMO, but you change them back to BC1 if you'd like.

There are more upgrades/attachments available, along with a unique way to mix and match them to your liking.

Something I like a lot is the effect gravity has on snipers firing over long distances. It's the first game (that I know of) where the mil dots in the scope are needed to snipe. You will also have to lead your target, just like in BC1.

Huge maps, like BC1

Destructable buildings, tree, etc., like BC1.

Firing rifles in full auto is more realistic. In BC1 there wasn't much climb or wander when firing in full auto.

I would recommend it to any one looking for the closest simulation of warfare in a video game. It incorporates squad teamwork, vehicles, armor, airstrikes and much more. This creates an environment where the run-and-gun Rambo types, just get owned...I love it! Battlefield Bad Company 2

Quick backround on me - I'm an avid console FPS player. I achieved top 1% once and top 6% for 3 solid months on Killzone. I've gotten my kill rank as high as 91000 on MW2 (good enough for top 2%). I also played a fair amount of Resistance. I LOVE COD:MW2. I love the graphics, the speed, the twitch reflexes required to be good. I also do not play the single player games, so my review is aimed specifically at the online portion. I will say the 2 hours spent on the single player were very fun and the graphics phenominal (noticeably better than multiplayer). I also play with a clan that has carried over several games, that also weighs into my opinion. Finally, I played both the BETA and the DEMO, and about 48 hours online in, so I have a fair amount of experience with BFBC 2 .

Based on DICE & EA's own admission, they are aiming to be the best, better than COD specfically. Do they succeed? Yes and no. Here is my comparison/opinion:

Play is class based - Recon, Medic, Assault and Engineer. As you play as each character, their specific abilities are unlocked and enhanced. The leveling is slow. Unlike MW2 where getting hot could mean 2000xp and a quick couple of levels. Not so in Battlefield. You will need to play and play well as one class for an extended period to really get into the meat of the characters. You can customize your player, but not in the same fashion MW2. Edge: Draw

Modes include Rush, Capture the Flag, Squad Deathmatch and Gold Rush. The HUGE advantage BFBC 2 has over MW2 is that playing like a one man army is useless and you will probably lose. You CAN do it, but camping and playing as a lone wolf simply do not work in BFBC. Again, a stark contrast to MW2, the maps are enormous. And that is putting it lightly. Squading up is imperative if you want to move quickly across the map (and spawn with a squadmate). Edge: BFBC

Mechanics - The players move in a similiar fashion to COD:MW, i.e., like the player is on skates. This is in contrast to Killzone that moves more like Saving Private Ryan. The guns feel good, but do not have a weighty feel to them. The player can run for days and jump abnormally high. The bullets have drop at long range, wich is awesome. As opposed to a wobbly reticle, you have to aim based on distance to the target. You don't get much of a notice when you are getting hit or hit someone, and getting killed can be a bit jarring and abrubt. Players can regain health, but slowly, so as a sniper, you can get those one shot kills, especially if you snipe behind your tank. Speaking of vehicles. They are tide changer and vital part of winning the game you are playing. We're talking choppers, tanks, humvees and quadrunners. As far as the actual shooting goes, MW2 still just feels better, but that is going to be a strict opinion, as both work just fine. Edge: Draw

Matchmaking - It's easy to jump into a squad and more importantly, hook up with friends. You can customize the map you play and all of the modes. The game also plays on dedicated servers supported by EA. Again, big edge: BFBC.

Graphics / Sound - This is going to be very much debated. I like how COD and KZ looks. BUT - Battlefield has vehicles, 24 players, 10 maps that dwarf COD and KZ's maps and the big enchilada - fully destructable environments. Like the tanks your in, they change the game. If a sniper thinks he's going to camp, think again. The building he's in or tree he's behind will eventually fall. Near the end of some matches, the level of destruction is incredible. If you are a pure graphics fiend, youll probably think it's ugly, if you love the size, scope and destructability, you'll prefer BFBC. As far as sound - COD is like a Bruckheimer movie, BFBC is like Saving Private Ryan. More pops and thumps. Every gun in COD sounds like a cannon (which I love with my Turtlebeach P21 Headphones). Edge: Draw

Overall - I personally prefer the gameplay of COD:MW2 by a wide margin over BFBC 2. However, if you've spent any time with MW2, you know it's full of lone wolves, campers, cheaters and glitchers. The matchmaking is inferior, clan support is nill and playing with friends online is very difficult because of constant drops. Playing as a team is paramount to having a good time on BFBC, and there in lies the rub. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm afraid the game will not have that pick up and play, jump right in replayability that COD:MW2 has. Ginormous maps played with strangers not playing together could end up being just as bad (or worse) than the faults of MW2. At the end of the day, I like the overall idea of BFBC2 BETTER than MW2, but narrowly. Time will tell where the support from players lies and the longevity of the game. - Ps3 Games - Bad Company 2 - Shooter - Battlefield'

Cell Phone Accessories - earbuds, cellphone

A good buy...clear sound with out a lot of noise. The unit also comes with four rubber earpieces so you can pick the one that fits best in your ear. There is no volume control, you will have to use the one on your phone. Their is a mute button built into the wire.

Quality seems good. JBuds J3MS In-Ear Single Earphone style Headset with Microphone for iPhone / Android / BlackBerry / HTC / LG / Motorola / Palm / Samsung - Black

I tried several single earbuds, this is the only one that I liked. Clear, comfortable, good construction, great value. I am buying a couple extra ones so I am never without one. You won't find a better ear piece for your phone. Order this while you can.

I can't believe how silly I must have looked to all the stores that I visited trying to buy something like this. I like bluetooth technology and long ago got used to using earpiece headsets when I talk while driving. The problem is that battery operated headsets are a pain: 1) they become another device that must be charged, and 2) they drain battery life of the phones that use them. I need fewer things to worry about to make my life easier.

Solution: a wired headset. But no one seems to carry them. I researched these and pulled the trigger on this one. I couldn't be happier. Nice quality materials. Cool looking. Great sounding. Awesome value. No issues. Highly recommend. I'm buying a 2nd set for my wife.

5 stars.

I bought this item about a month ago, and the sound was great. The device worked well with my iPhone, until the button...the only button that does everything you need...stopped working. I don't know why, there was no trauma, it simply stopped working. I can still use the earpiece and mic, I just have to get my phone out to pause my music, answer my phone, skip to the next track, etc. So I hopped on the JLab website, registered my product, and filed a warranty claim. Just like that, I have a new unit being mailed to me.

It's unfortunate that the product broke so quickly, but I really can't complain too much since replacing it was so easy.

[This review has been rewritten thanks to helpful corrections in comments]

This earset sells for a wide range of prices under various product names including J3MS, J3M, etc. Prices seem to vary from $10 to $25. I bought at $17. JLAB appears to be experimenting with pricing, searching on Google prices I found them selling direct at $17.

Curiously, this is about only reasonably priced comfortable wired earset sold for the iPhone. Apple sells their earset (stereo, not so comfortable), you can buy high end stereo earsets, and you can buy monaural bluetooth earsets. For wired monaural though, this seems to be it. Shure used to make a great and reasonably priced 2.5mm wired earset, but they gave up.

Mine came promptly from JLAB with Amazon's trouble-free packaging. In my testing the earset worked quite well with my 4G iPhone and is very comfortable. The single button will start/stop music and will answer and terminate calls -- which is more than I expected and is very much appreciated.

It doesn't feel super durable, but it's a cut above the competition

If it holds up, I'll look for the price to drop below $18 and I'll buy two more.

I'd rate this product as 4 stars, but deduct 1 star for the highly variable pricing. I prefer my prices to be more consistent.

I was impressed with the quality of sound right out of the box with these. I expected way less for the price. It seems very well made too. I'll be buying other products from here in hopes that the rest of their items are just as well made.

I was under the impression that there would be two earbuds, but this is just a cord with a mic and one earbud, which for driving and phone calling, makes sense and is actually great, I was just hoping these could double as gym headphones which I'll now be purchasing. However, this single JBud mic set is awesome, click on and off music, talk clearly over the phone, bump bass into one ear. Peace.

I bought this product because of the recent reviews I read. I have an HTC Inspire 4G cellphone and I do not get good reception on this earpeice. I do like that it does work fine for my IPOD 4G. I'm stilling searching for the best earpeice for my phone and that also can be use on my IPOD 4G. - Earphones - Comfortable - Earbuds - Cellphone'

Replacement Water Filters - water filter, culligan

The Brita faucet filter does an excellent job of filtering out impurities from tap water -- that is, when it manages to stay attached to the faucet. However, in my experience with it (two years and two different models), a tremendous amount of my valuable time was wasted trying to reattach the filter after it would repeatedly fall off. Although I have no direct experience with the Pur faucet filter, my understanding (drawn from other reviews) is that it suffers from the same problem.

Happily, after purchasing the CULLIGAN Faucet Filter several months ago, I can now report with confidence that it is plagued by no such similar defect. In other words, once attached, it remains firmly in place, and works every bit as effectively as rival brands. So for anyone who has tried those other brands and encountered endless frustration in endeavoring to keep them attached to the faucet, my advice is: Don't give up just yet! Try the Culligan model. It's solidly built, competitively priced, and replacement cartridges are readily available from Amazon. For me, at least, the Culligan at last put an end to the gratuitous, time-wasting burden of having to continually reattach a recalcitrant water filter. Culligan FM-15RA Level 3 Faucet Filter Replacement Cartridge

Buy one at a time, and not too far in advance. Filter works well, but Culligan only warrants for 30 days from date of purchase. If you buy several (as I did) and one is defective (spurting water all over kitchen!), no real way to obtain a replacement.

At first, I did experience what a few of the other reviewers mentioned: after a short while the filter didn't appear to have any affect on the taste of the water.

The problem, I discovered, is that if you run the water through the filter too quickly (by opening up the tap all the way) the charcoal filter just can't do its job. As a rule of thumb, only allow enough flow through the filter so that it takes about 10-15 seconds to fill up a glass of water, and you'll have great tasting water. So, if you have high water pressure, make sure you don't open of the faucet all the way when filling a glass. There's just no way a filter as small as this can do its job properly at the max flow rate of most faucets. You really need a large in-line filter for that.

Note that this only applies to the filter's odor and taste removal properties, because this involves a chemical reaction of sorts where activated charcoal pulls chlorine (and other chemical) out of the water by binding to them. This is a completely different mechanism than what you normally associate with filtering, such as particles being caught in a mesh (which is essentially how the rest of the filter works in these, and so it's really only the odor and taste that is affected by the rate at which you let water through the Cullgan).

I wanted a simple but effective economical water filter for my apartment. I did considerable research (including purchasers of various products at Amazon) and at Consumers Reports as well as various internet sites. What appeared to be the best solution for me was a filter that attached to the tap. Simple to attach and effective water filtration. I've been using the Culligan FM-15RA level 3 filter for over a year now and besides being economical it is easy to install and to replace filters (every few months). Since purchasing, we had our water professionally checked for chlorine, bacteria and contaminents (metals etc) and it came through with fjying colors. We are very pleased with the unit.

Finally, after wasting a couple of hundred dollars in Pur products, I moved to Culligan and have not been disappointed. It DOES NOT LEAK, the filter life is twice as long, and is much easier to replace. To top it, the subscribe & save pricing of amazon is amazin !

These filters are a b**ch to get out of the casing (maybe I'm tightening them too much, so be careful not to do that), but other than that I'm happy with Culligan. And, the new option to have it auto-shipped regularly is handy, especially because the Culligan filter doesn't have a fancy replacement indicator light.

This product gives fairly clean water, but it really does not last long. Even though it says it'll last about 2 months, about one month into using it, the one I have runs very slowly as if it has been plugged. I would suggest going with a different type of filter so you won't have to keep buying this filter refill.

We have water with strong chlorine taste, these filters take that away well. It's easy to install, cheap, and surprisingly high quality!!! We also use them for longer than the recommended 2 months, it still filters it just gets slow. - Water Filter - Culligan - Replacement Water Filters - Culligan Water Filters'

Baggallini - purse, tote

This is a great bag! I carried it with me on a recent trip to England and it was invaluable. It held everything I needed and has plenty of pockets to keep everything organized. I used it as my carry-on as well as a purse - the ability to expand was helpful as I brought back more items than I went over with. Baggallini Expandable Tote,Navy,One Size

I just used my bag for the first time last week while traveling. It's a great size to stuff last minute purchases; also it is so light weight. There are small pockets on the inside, I only wish that there were large pockets on the inside that mirror the ones on the outside. This would be a help to organize stuff.

thanks, Sharon

I have 3 Baggallini bags, all different functions. Love the way they are made and are so light.

Not carrying 5 pounds before you put anything inside! I'm packing this in my carry-on 21" suitcase for a trip to Ireland.

Coming home, I'll check the carry-on and have this tote filled to the brim with good stuff.

Sturdy and great fabric.

Thanks, Baggallini.

I am a Peace Corps volunteer and I needed a low-key bag that was big enough to store my laptop inside while at the same time able to withstand a beating in a third world country (this bag features the classic baggallini fabric that is really tough) and fit all of my extras. This tote is perfect for that and I've received many compliments from other volunteers. I only wish that I had found this bag sooner, as my service is coming to a close in six months, but I plan on using it in the future as a carry on bag for traveling- I do think it is just slightly too big for day to day use- but if you are planning to use it for longer trips it is perfect and I highly recommend it.

I ordered the espresso color and it's a gorgeous dark brown, I am very happy with it.

This is a great travel bag. It has multiple compartments, it is tough, the khaki color does not show dirt easily, and it can be washed. My only problem with it is that it has so much space that I tend to carry too many things around.

I'm not sure what I expected in conjunction with size when I ordered this bag, but it was much larger than I expected. Still...I ordered it after reading another review of a lady taking hers on a trip to England, because I too am about to visit England in a few weeks, and intend to use this bag as my carry-on purse. So far, I'm pretty pleased with the purchase. The Tomato color is fabulous - not too loud - and will be much more fun for me in particular than just plain black. It is large enough to store my raincoat, souveniers, and pretty much whatever else I deem necessary on the plane. The expansion will definitely help when making purchases in merry old England. The main thing I was looking for was a nice bag with a zip top so I don't attract the attention of pickpockets, and this bag zips up quite nicely. I'm 5'3" and the handles fit nicely over my shoulder, which I prefer because it makes me feel more secure. It also has great inner compartments for a cell phone, and other small things. I took it to the beach this weekend for a trial run, and was very pleased. So...the large size doesn't matter - if anything I found it quite helpful. The material looks to be great for wet situations (England is, after all, rumored to be a very rainy place) so I'm confident it will fare well on my trip, and wherever else I take it. - Tote - Bags - Totes - Purse'

Belly Dancing - belly dancing, costumes

So I bought this hip scarf for my Halloween costume, I was a gypsy. I loved it! It's a lotta fun and it's not like cheap material :) I don't personally belly dance but it's really pretty! I would love to buy more colors and use it for costumes again :) 100% Handmade Belly Dance Hip Scarf Purple, Gold Coins Lively Style

This scarf is very well made and extremely pretty! Feel very exotic and sexy when I wear it and it makes me forget that I'm belly dancing. BTW--coins are gold, not silver as the picture leads you to believe.

100% Handmade Belly Dance Hip Scarf Purple, Gold Coins Lively StyleThis hip scarf is very well made and is way more beautiful than it appears in the photo. When one puts it on, it take's one away from the humdrum of western life and into the exotic lands of the east, whether or not one can actually belly dance.

This is a handmade skirt with 2 rows of coins. The coins hang with sequined circles. While this skirt does not make as much "noise" as the red skirt, also offered by Amazon, it is heavier in weight which can be helpful when learning to dance. There are 4 small rows of coin-colored beads at the top and 1 row at the top of the second layer of coins. The ties also have the sequins and coins. The material is a better quality than others. The purple color looks great with black or white. I gave this item 4 stars because of the shipping costs. I would buy more but the shipping costs compared to the great price is ridiculous.

Overall this is a great skirt. The quality of the material and detail on the beading was beautiful. It is a little shorter than how it looks in the picture but other than that I'm very impressed with it.

This belly scarf will become one of your favorites as you dance or sway your hips! Feels well made. The only thing I would have changed would have been to ad a third row of "bangles" so as to make it a bit longer. Great purchase! - Belly Dance - Belly Dancing - Hip Scarf - Costumes'

Expansion Pack

While it is true, many have had issues with the download versions of Generations, the problem has been solved, and when I downloaded my game, I had absolutely NO issues!

To solve the issues, FIRST do the folowing: (as in BEFORE you download Generation, this makes the download smoother, but you can still get your game to work if you download first. You will just have to search for the download in your computer files to find the correct install file)

* Delete all MODS and Custom Content you have downloaded.

* Open your EA Download Manager and preform the update (it will prompt you, or it did for me)

* Open up your Sims 3 game, and open the

* Restart your computer.

* Download/Install Generations. You may or may not need to restart your computer again.

After these steps you're game should work perfectly! Mine did, and it really is worth the trouble! You get all kind of new items and interactions. I laughed when I saw the "be frisky" interaction pop up under the "Romantic" tab. You won't be disapointed, it's definitely the best Expansion they've relesed! The Sims 3: Generations [Download]

I have not yet purchased this expansion pack, but I wanted to help the reviewers who are having trouble installing it. Occasionally while patching/updating your Sims 3 game in the Sims 3 Launcher, the game is not fully patched: either you exit out of the update too early or an error occurs. You are usually unaware when this happens. The failed update can cause a mismatch in the versions between the base game (Sims 3) and your current expansion pack. The game may run fine at first, but when you try to update it in the future or add another expansion pack, you get an error and can't play the game.

The SOLUTION to this issue is to manually patch the base game. There are several tutorials online on how to do this, plus the latest patches that you can download. In a nutshell, look for the latest downloadable patch for the Sims 3 base game, not one of the expansion packs, that also corresponds to your region code (1-7) and run it to patch the base game. This should allow you to fully update through the launcher and/or install this expansion pack.

I purchased this game for my daughter since it was an instant download. Unfortunately, didn't read all the problems until after it didn't work for us. Instead of going through and deleting things I was able to go to the Amazon Games & Software folder that was created on her system (under Documents) and I searched for setup.exe files. I found two - TS3....update and Sims3EP04setup. I downloaded the TS3 file update first and then selected the game setup file. It then asked me for the Product Key (which we weren't asked for when installing the first time), entered product key and it completed the download. Game is now working fine. I am NOT tech savy so I'm not sure if these explanations help anyone but I hope so - it was very frustrating!! Product key is available back in Your Account folder. There is a link to the product key when you search for your purchase/order.

My game never worked correctly! it even damaged my exisiting Sims games that were previously installed. I'm not the cause of this error. Re-downloaded 2 times with Amazon and twice directly from EA...waste of time, do not buy Generations!

I have been with The Sims franchise since the very first game and I have every installment, expansion and item pack. This is a fun expansion pack, but unlike Nightlife and Ambitions it does not contain an additional world or additional careers. It does allow additional activities such as Prom, Graduation, learning to drive etc. but you don't actually get to see any of them, only some commentaries during.

The newest addition, boarding school, is probably my favorite add-on as I love having big families, but after awhile they can be a bit tiring, now I can just ship them off to one of several boarding schools that will grow specific talents like logic, athleticism, art/music etc.

You can also create an imaginary friend that, if treated properly, can even become a controllable player and member of the family.

I like this expansion, but it isn't one of my favorites. It is definitely not worth $30. I'm very glad I used a coupon that took off $15 otherwise I would feel very cheated.

My advice is to wait for Sims Pets to come out before you purchase this as there will be a price drop on Generations since it won't be the "new one" anymore.

If you're a Sims lover like I am you'll definitely want to add this to your collection, but if you're only a part-time gamer I'd just skip it and get either Nightlife or Ambitions because they'll give you much more bang for your buck.

Didn't think that I'd like this expansion pack, but after playing it for some time it has to be one of my favorites. There are lots of interactions with other sims added to the game. Teens have a lot more fun stuff to do, and if you don't like playing with a child/teen in your family, you can send them away to boarding school and have them come back with skills/etc! Very fun. Lots of new items, too. Worth it for the price!

The download went smoothly, and playing the game was a lot of fun. For the record this game really adds a bunch of small new features instead of a few big features so be warned. I was able to play the game with no hassle though, and that's what's really important.'

Lint Magnet - pants, expandable waist

These are great pants that give a little extra room around the waist when needed.

I bought 3 pair in Navy, Khaki and Stone. They fit me well and look good all the time.

Try a pair and see what you think. Haggar Men's Mynx Gabardine Hidden Expandable Waist Pleated Dress Pant,Black,34x29

Very nice pants, very comfortable. Up to Haggar's usual standards. I like the expandable waist, gives me room to grow or shrink (hah), but I also don't have to worry about trying them on before I buy.

Due to packaging there's a horizontal crease halfway down each leg (pretty much unavoidable unless they're shipped rolled up in a cylinder -- hah hah). A warm iron took them right out.

I like these. I'll be buying more as budget permits.

These look GREAT! They fit comfortably and are light as well as durable so you dont get overheated. The lightweight feel lets the pants keep their pleated look. I recommend buying a few pair of these if you need some GREAT dress pants!

When I opened the package there was a fishy chemical smell coming from the pants. I washed them to try and get the smell out but not only did it not get better it passed the smell on to a couple of socks and a towel I had in the washer.

Fuel System Cleaner - best price, additives

My '06 Civic SI has about 40,000 miles on it. It had been getting around 22 mpg (mostly city driving) but even with long distance freeway driving (around 75mph) I'd only get about 23 mpg. I usually use Chevron or Shell gas. I also have used Techron fuel cleaner in the past with no results.

So I used Red Line SI-1 a few tanks ago, and my gas mileage has increased to about 26 mpg for my last few tanks. Right now I'm at 318 miles on one tank of gas, and i have one bar left on my fuel gauge (it's digital). Prior to the Red Line the best I'd ever gotten was 312 on one tank of gas, and that was after driving the ENTIRE tank on the freeway, and driving 10 miles with no bars left on the fuel gauge. Typically I would get 250-270 miles on one tank.

I'm stoked!

I will admit that using this stuff ain't going to do anything to help you if your injectors aren't clogged... but if you suspect they are, this is the fuel cleaner to get! Red Line 60103 SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner - 15 oz.

I can echo what Glenn said in his review. I started using fi cleaners back in the early 80's. A new Volvo 242 I had purchased new was starting to perform sluggishly. Another owner recommended a fi cleaner which I tried and it worked pretty well. Over the past 28 years I've tried just about everything on the market. Some worked well, others didn't. The Red Line SI-1 works better than the others I've tried. The BG cleaner works well too, but at three times the cost.

Ok so I've tried a handful of fuel system cleaners over the years and the last being Chevron Techron after researching it years ago. The car would typically feel good for that tank, and nothing more but I figured it helped since sometime I would have to put Circle K gas in my car or from stations where you could tell that you were going to get some water with your gas since they were so old.

Anyway on a cross country trip in my friends Volvo with 101k miles in it the throttle started to stick and I realized it was a drive by wire car so it wasn't a cable issue. Plus the car was pinging (my uncar savvy friends response was that sound was the noise the fan makes..) like mad so I inquired to what gas this little turbo was running... Response- Regular! and to makes things worse the last 50k miles the poor thing has been running regular and pinging!!! ahahahahaha So Instant pull into a filling station to fill up the tank with super 91 (in that part of the country). The car is still pinging even after 2 tanks of super, so I remember some motorcycle discussions about Seafoam and I pick a bottle up for some stupid $18 amount in the middle of no where gas station, but the car needs something and the throttle is running (researched this later that the throttle body was dirty). The Seafoam immediately helped but the car still pinged through 4 more tanks of super, and worse the throttle was staying stuck slightly the rest of the trip home which made going down hills interesting to say the least with an automatic (can you smell the brake pads?)

So after a trip to the dealer to inquire about Throttle body cleaning and getting a $140 quote and they won't even pull it off to clean it? I started researching and found this Red Line Product... I've done enough motorcycle road racing to know that certain builders will only use Redline products for their motors and so I know it would be good, but I wasn't expecting to find out that 1oz of this stuff has more than a whole bottle of the Chevron Techron.

So Dump a bottle in the offending Volvo, and also one in my Honda Element with 63k miles and both cars drove like a bat out of hell while the full bottle was in each tank, but I expected that as most cleaners have some octane boosters to make you feel like you got your monies worth.

What I wasn't expecting was that my Exhaust in my Honda was rattling around and the car rattled at stoplights and didn't rev out as smoothly. I just figured it needed plugs and a tune up as I had put 63k miles on it myself... but seriously the exhaust pipe didn't rattle, it revs better than new (probably thanks to the synthetic oil I've been running since after breakin) and I'm getting about 1mpg better and I'm actually putting my food into it more... I'm completely blown away!

The Volvo sticking throttle is cured! and more importantly the engine doesn't ping at all with 91 super like it should! The seafoam might have helped but after seeing the online comparisons of motors fuel systems being torn apart before and after by 'USERS' not "As Seen On TV" infomercials I was confident this wasn't snake oil.

I will be periodically be adding the 1oz a tank as suggested instead of buying whole bottles of other products!

I recently pour a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner on my 1999 toyota tacoma prerunner and the gas mileage decreased over 3mpg and rough idle.

I picked up this Red Line from a local auto parts store. After one tank and my truck is now idle much more stable and mileage increased a lot.

Will stay with Red Line and away from Lucas.

Being a big fan of Red Line products, I was hoping for a big night and day transformation of my 1997 Toyota Camry. Sadly, it just didn't happen. I didn't want to give it 5 stars as I just didn't notice anything, but, I didn't want to give it 1 star as I trust Red Line in their products. My guess for the lack of difference is probably in the fact that I only use name brand gasoline. I figure that the better quality fuels probably have enough detergents in them now a days as to not really require a heavy cleaning. Perhaps if I were more negligent in the upkeep of my car I would have seen a more noticeable bump in performance.

I track my mileage at every fuel up.

FYI I drive a 2007 Mazda3 2.4 Liter engine with about 40,000 miles. It's ranked at 32mpg HWY and 25mpg City.

at two tanks before oil change I got about 29 mpg.

after oil change, air filter change, I had two tanks fuel up, I got about 30mpg.

then I added the Red Line fuel cleaner, plus the Tufoil engine treatment. Here is the result at following fuel ups - 30mpg, 29mpg, 29mpg, 28.5 mpg, 30 mpg.

Not much better at all, not as much as a regular oil and filter change.

In my opinion, save yourself $10 and put that toward a oil change. I rank it so low because it actually advertises better fuel economy. I would not know if it does clean the fuel lines, but I know it certainly didn't help with the MPG.

EDIT:

my mistake, it's 2.3 liter engine.

Fitness - rope, fitness

I am 5'11 and found this jumprope at 9' to be too short for the crossover move. It's fine for the normal jump where you come off the ground about an inch, but I can't just jump an inch when trying the crossover move. I'd have to jump much higher to clear it.

I am going back to 9.5' ropes.

As for the weights, they are nice. Note that if you take out the weights, there is empty space in the handle and the rope can travel into the handle, effectively make it a shorter rope. Weider Adjustable Weight Leather Jump Rope

This product arrived fast, and packaged nicely!

This is the first jump rope I have ever purchased in terms of fitness, so I did quite alot of research, I almost proceeded to my car to shop for a rope in person, since there were so many issues with rope reviews I had read from many sites. However, with the free shipping and great price I decided to give this rope a try, and I'm glad I did! Perfect weighted handles, turns fine (this was a major issue in most reviews), is quite durable and I didn't need to adjust it (I'm 5'10). A purchase I am satisfied with!

I like the weights and where the rope enter the handle to minimize wear. Overall, it's not a major improvement from a cheaper rope, but not bad either. It's a bit short at 9' without any lengthier options.

I figured out after a week that this jump rope wasn't on its way. Usually when it says it takes 1-2 months to get it they mean 2 weeks, so I just kept waiting... and waiting... and waiting. 2 months later... voila. Was it worth the wait? Probably not. It is a nice rope but the leather is less flexible and I think this causes it to get caught on your feet more often. I jump rope to work out and used to have a weighted Nike jump rope that was a synthetic material on the rope part. It was way better than this. I can usually get 100+ per set with no mistakes... on this one I never seem to make it above 50 and that is when I am being very conscious of the situation and trying to jump extra high. - Jump Ropes - Exercise - Fitness - Rope'

Adult Alternative - maroon 5, dance pop

SONGS ABOUT JANE is sure to become a classic pop/rock album.Released way back in the summer of 2002 its about time fans and radio stations alike have finally taken notice to this great album. The first single HARDER TO BREATHE, was just a tip of the iceberg and if you like variety, you have found the right album. The second single, THIS LOVE, blends pop, with rock and dance and is a song that you cant help singing and dancing along with. There are also ballads to choose from as well and I would look for either MUST GET OUT or SHE WILL BE LOVED to be possible single choices sometime in the near future.Other standout tracks on the album include SUNDAY MORNING, THROUGH WITH YOU & THE SUN with each track on the album sounding distinctly differant. There are definate R & B/funk influences all over this album and will all of the rap songs and R & B ballads taking over the pop charts these days, it is very refreshing to hear a group like Maroon 5 and songs like HARDER TO BREATHE and THIS LOVE getting significant play at radio.Buy this album today and be prepared to sing and dance all day and make sure you catch them live when they come to a town near you. Songs About Jane

Maroon 5 brings to us a brilliant mix of soul, rock, funk, and R&B so slickly crafted that most people wont know how to take them. The intense vocal range of frontman Adam Levine is matched perfectly by this incredibly smooth band. Dueling guitars, jazzy keys, and a rhythm section cooler than Barry White in the late 70s bring this massive sound to a head. The harmonies brought forth on this disc bear an uncanny resemblance to Michael Jackson, though the utter lack of synth-pop backing, creates a sound all its own. The album, Songs About Jane, is clearly devoted primarily the relationships and love-life of Levine, who is also the bands main songwriter. Probably the most outright pop tune on the album would be She Will be Loved, which happens to tell the most interesting story lyrically. This track is apparently about the singers infatuation and empathy toward an attractive young prostitute, who he visits frequently in an attempt to make her feel as beautiful as she is.It is difficult to pick out standout tracks on an album like this, where every song is so equally fantastic. The...funk-tastic tune Not Coming Home, along with the slowed down lounge groove, Secret, are 2 of my personal favorites, although every song on here has strength alone. The first single, which to this point has only received minimal notice and success, Harder to Breathe, is clearly the most alternative of the album. Sweetest Goodbye is also a great way to wrap this album up and leave the listener smiling from this R&B tinged love song.Overall, this may be one of the best albums of 2002. The talent for writing great pop tunes that stray from the synth-pop and electronic influences of current radio mainstays may make this album great, but I can imagine the difficulty in marketing a band like this to mainstream audiences who fight tooth and nail to place everything in categories and genres. If you really want a great band to chill and relax to, but one that never falls into the category of background music then Maroon 5 is for you. And if youre a woman, age 18-30 and youre single, check out Maroon 5 live, because from listening to Mr. Levines lyrics, I can tell you one thing this guy LOVES women.9/10<

Maroon 5 emerged onto the college scene in 1999 as Kara's Flowers. After their first release on Reprise Records, (The Fourth World), they were dropped by the label. They subsequently fine-tuned their unique sound and were signed by Octone Records (an indie division of J-Records/Clive Davis) in 2002. That same year, Songs About Jane was released. It is a worthy project from a group of talented artists that defies categorization fusing a mixture of genres into a finely tuned work of modern art. The now platinum status of this CD is evidence of the group's hard work and burgeoning mass appeal. Stand out tracks are the 2003 hit Harder to Breathe and the current top ten hit This Love. She Will Be Loved is a slower yet just as appealing mellow tune that adds to the diversity of this disc. Tangled and The Sun will help you get your funk on while Sunday Morning is a fun, hip tune that will have you singing along. The key to this CD's success is the diversity of musical styles. It never leaves one with a bland feeling, constantly surprising the listener with a mixture of Rock, Soul, Funk and R&B. A musical delight from beginning to end, Maroon 5 should have a bright future.

Maroon 5 was on Last Call with Carson Daly a few weeks ago, and at that point, I had never heard of them. When they came on, the only thought in my mind was how much the lead singer looks like the lead singer of Train. But then they started playing, and they were a mix of old-school funk, new age rock, and a little Rx Bandits, being that it seems like every instrument in the band has the "leading the band" feel. It's a very dominant band, and an even more dominant CD. The effects are used at the right time, and the songs are some of the most well-written songs I've ever heard under or above ground. Maroon 5 may be too soft for some people... But if you truly want to hear great music that you really don't hear everyday, check out Maroon 5. I'll be looking for them on tour...

What can I say but this is an AMAZING CD. I first saw Maroon 5 on "Last Call with Carson Daly" on NBC last September 2002. I was replaying a tape I had made of the previous night's show to watch when I came home from work. (I can never stay up late enough to watch the original broadcasts). It was near the end of the show, and Carson had spent most of the program interviewing some actress (Parker Posey or Piper Perabu -- someone with a lot of 'P's in their name) and I got up to get some food. I was half way to the kitchen and I started hearing this unbelievably funky music coming out of my TV.I ran back to my set, and I couldn't believe my eyes. There were five white guys playing the most soulful, funky music I've heard in a L-O-N-G time. Maroon 5 played their first single, "Harder to Breathe". I was impressed enough to save their performance on tape instead of taping over it with the next night's show.I'm an R&B fan mostly, and I have a pretty good knowledge of most soul and R&B music. I know there hasn't been an R&B or soul band on the charts since Toni, Tony, Tone (Raphael Sadiq) called it quits in 1996. Maroon 5 is a unique combination of soul, funk and rock music. The closest comparison I can come up with is the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and as much as I like the Chilli Peppers, I think that Maroon 5's lead singer, Adam Levine, has a voice with more range than Anthony Kiedis of the Chilli Peppers.I made a mental note to myself to check out their CD the next time I had a chance, and when I was at Borders a few days later, I sampled selections from their CD, "Songs About Jane". You know you have a keeper when you don't even skip over tracks when you're sampling the CD in a record store. I bought the CD right there, played the CD in my car the rest of that day, and it has been in heavy rotation in my CD changer ever since.I also caught Maroon 5 live opening for O.A.R. at the House of Blues in L.A. last November 2002. I was totally blown away. They are a phenomenal live band -- raw, hot, sexy, full of kinetic energy. Since then, I learned that 4 out of 5 of the members of Maroon 5 are from right here in L.A.(my home). They have got to be L.A.'s best kept secret. When I look at the stuff that's on the charts right now, I don't see any bands that even come close to what they are doing, which explains why they haven't broken out yet. But it will happen, believe me it will happen. Real SOON.I just bought tickets to see them perform as a headliner this time at the House of Blues on January 27, 2003 and I know they are going to set that stage on fire. Even John Mayer (grammy nominee), who Maroon 5 supported on part of his last tour, is singing their praises. In an ad for their upcoming House of Blues shows, he is quoted as saying the following about Maroon 5: "The perfect blend of melody & grit. One of the best bands to come along in a while."If you like funk/rock or rock/soul music -- heck if you like music that has a fantastic melody, and lyrics that complement the music perfectly, you will love this CD.Don't sleep on this one! You will be sorry you did. - Maroon 5 - Dance Pop - Adult Alternative'

First Alert - detectors, carbon monoxide

Pros: Peace of mind connecting basement sensors to attic bedroom, battery life, easy maintenance, easy setup, spoken alarm identifies threat and location and level of Carbon Monoxide at all networked units.

Cons: Price

We have a four-level home. All the carbon monoxide(CO) and fire sources are in the basement or on the first level: A gas furnace, hot water heater, and clothes dryer in the basement, a fireplace on the first floor. We keep the basement door closed and we sleep in bedrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors, often with doors closed.

Conventional smoke detectors can be fairly hard to hear when that far away and it is also something of a guessing game which one is going off and why.

So two of these units (one for the basement and one for the 2nd floor hallway) address several unique challenges: First, would a detector in the basement ever awake us upper-floor sleepers in time? Second, with a total of 4 detectors in the house, how much time would you waste trying to identify the location and nature of any problem?

While expensive, their cost is the only downside I've experienced in a year and a half of ownership and two of these units are really the best way to install networked CO and fire detectors in a tall house.

These do require setup beyond just putting batteries and mounting, but it was easy considering that each unit must have a spoken location associated with it so that the spoken alarm can explain things like "Warning. Carbon Monoxied detected in Basement" or "Warning. Smoke detected in Hallway".

Note that when one unit detects trouble (or is being tested), the other speaks what the problem is too. Also during tests the unit reports the maximum CO level detected since the last test. This means that if something goes wrong in the basement, we'll get the message in right outside our bedrooms.

Replacing batteries is easy: they come in a little slide out tray and they seem to last longer than 9V batteries do in my older detectors.

I'm back today to order a 3rd unit to place in the Attic so that we can replace an un-networked smoke-only detector there also detect CO near the chimney (in case it ever leaks or drafts) as it passes through. First Alert SCO501CN-3ST ONELINK Battery Operated Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Location

These smoke/carbon monoxide alarms had an issue back in 2006 and First Alert recalled like one million of them because the "replace battery" light or beep noise kept going off prematurely (the battery wasn't really low, but it told you it was). If you have one of these alarms and you're replacing battieries more than every 6 months (the batteries should last a year or so) you probably have one of the recalled units.

Check with First Alert and have them check your serial/part number.

The new alarms DON'T have this problem.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors/alarms are extremely important for every home. People hate to spend the money on them, especially the higher quality (more expensive) detectors, and yet your very life can depend on them. There are many choices on the market today, ranging from cheap, basic models to extremely expensive, high-tech devices. There are two main types of smoke detectors: ionization detectors and photoelectric detectors. Most detectors utilize either one or the other of these technologies while some use both. Most detectors just use a beep-style audible alarm, while some talk, some have strobe lights, and some have a bright light to illuminate a dark area. Many detectors today are combining a smoke and carbon monoxide sensor, so you have dual protection in a single device. You can choose between AC and battery operated devices. Most (if not all) new homes are built with AC detectors in all of the vital areas, which usually contain a battery backup in case of a power outage. Many of these new detectors, installed in new homes, are linked together so that one detector will trigger all of them to sound their alarm. This is a very useful feature, since an alarm in the basement may not be heard by sleeping individuals in an upstairs bedroom. However, getting this protection in an existing, older home was almost impossible until a few years ago when manufacturers started utilizing wireless technology to allow communication between multiple detection devices.

My wife and I recently decided to move our bedroom into the basement level of our home. It allowed our three children to all have a room of their own, but we were very concerned about what would happen if there was a fire and we did not hear an alarm go off on the upper level of our home. We were also concerned about the potential of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is the first time that we were not sleeping close to our children, as we were now down a level and on the complete opposite end of our home. We had a home security system installed, which also gave us some protection from fire, but we could not afford to have an adequate number of smoke and carbon monoxide sensors installed with it, as they were extremely expensive. Our security system is made by First Alert Pro, and when I explained my concerns about better protection, to the person installing the system, he recommended that we look into the OneLink combination smoke and CO alarms by First Alert. He told us that when one alarm goes off it sends a signal to every other OneLink detector in the house, causing all of the alarms to go off at the same time. He also told us that the alarms have a talking voice module, which actually tells you where the smoke or carbon monoxide is being detected. Research also shows that young children are more likely to wake up and take action when they hear a voice, rather than just hearing a beeping sound. I don't know much about that but I have read this information in several places on the Internet.

I could not find the OneLink combination smoke and CO alarms at any local retailers, but I was able to find them at several sites on the Internet. Needless to say, they are not cheap! However, after researching this model online, I was impressed by the features and I read a lot of glowing reviews for them. Since you can add as many detectors as you want, whenever you want, I decided to start out with three of them and add more as I could afford them. The included instruction manual is pretty straightforward but setting up and installing the first detector was a little tricky. It's not that complicated but timing is a key element in programming this alarm. You start out by installing 2 AA batteries (included in the package), which will cause the alarm to say "Welcome, First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm. No location programmed. To select location, press and hold test button now." This is where the timing part comes in. As instructed, you press and hold the test button until the Alarm starts speaking again, at which time you release the button again. When you do this, the voice module will say "To save location, press and hold test button after desired location is heard." The voice will then begin listing off room names in a typical house. The choices are as follows: Basement, Living Room, Family Room, Office, Kitchen, Dining Room, Hallway, Child's Bedroom, Master Bedroom, Guest Bedroom, Utility Room. Once you hear the name of the room that you want to setup the detector for, you must quickly press and hold the button down. It will announce the room name you have chosen and will tell you that the location has been saved. If you mess up this step, you can remove the batteries, wait for a couple of minutes and reinstall the batteries again, to start the entire process over.

To add and link additional OneLink alarms, you must hold down the test button when you insert the batteries. Once you hear the unit chirp you release the button. At this point the green power LED should start to blink. You are then to hold down the test button on the first alarm you setup, until the second alarm chirps. You repeat these steps for each additional OneLink alarm you wish to integrate into your home. Once you have the main programming completed, mounting the devices is as easy as installing any other basic smoke detector, using the provided mounting screws.

My wife and I started by purchasing and installing three of the First Alert OneLink Battery Operated Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms (SCO501NC-3ST). As all First Alert OneLink devices can be linked with each other, we will likely add a few smoke-only detectors in the near future. We have installed one of the OneLink detectors in the kitchen, one in the hallway (right outside our children's bedrooms), and one just outside our bedroom in the basement. So far they have been working flawlessly. We test them every couple of weeks or so, and pushing the test button on one detector causes them all to go off, as they are supposed to. The real test was when my wife recently had a "cooking accident," which caused a fair amount of smoke in the kitchen. The alarm in the kitchen went off first, which triggered the other two OneLink alarms in the house. I was in my office downstairs when the basement alarm sounded; saying "Warning, Evacuate, Smoke in Kitchen, Evacuate!" Shortly after I silenced the kitchen alarm, the hallway alarm went off, which set off the other two alarms as well. This time the spoken warning stated that smoke was detected in hallway. The alarms simply added to my wife's frustration in trying to get the burning dinner situation under control, but I was delighted that the alarms were working as promised.

The First Alert OneLink Combination Smoke Alarm and Carbon Monoxide Detector allows you to build a safety network of wireless, interconnected alarms in your home. You can wirelessly connect up to 16 OneLink alarms in your home. When one alarm sounds they will all begin to sound. This device features a talking alarm, with an actual voice that speaks the type and location of the danger in your home. It is a 2-in-1 device, giving your home protection from both smoke and carbon monoxide. The smoke detector uses photo-electric technology, which helps prevent false alarms like those caused by cooking and shower steam. An EZ access battery drawer provides the ability to change the batteries without removing the alarm from the ceiling. The CO sensor is an electrochemical type, which is the most accurate technology available for detecting carbon monoxide. The OneLink produces a loud, 85db alarm, plus a talking alarm for added safety. The package includes the OneLink combination smoke and CO detector/alarm, a pair of AA batteries, mounting hardware and instruction manual. First Alert claims that this device has a 6-year lifecycle. The OneLink alarm will give a special chirping pattern, to let you know once the device has reached end of life. The device is covered by a 5-year limited warranty.

My wife and I are extremely happy with our purchase of the First Alert OneLink Combination Smoke and CO detectors. We no longer have to worry about an alarm going off upstairs, while we are asleep downstairs and therefore unaware of the danger to our children. We sleep much better at night knowing that our entire family is safe. I definitely plan to install more OneLink detectors throughout our home in the near future. Although the setup can be a little tricky, your first time, it gets easier as you program more of them. My only concern is the battery life, since they run on just two AA batteries. The instruction manual suggests that you test the alarms once every week, but to save battery power I test ours once every other week. The alarms do have a talking low battery alert, which is supposed to sound every 5 hours or so when the batteries are in need of replacement. We have had our OneLink detectors installed for about 3 months now and have had no problems with them. I cannot give the OneLink detectors 5 stars, due to their inflated cost, but I think they deserve 4 and ½ stars for their quality and advanced technology. I definitely would not want to be without them in my home and I highly recommend them to everyone. - Detectors - Fire - Combination Smoke - Carbon Monoxide'

Raw Food Recipes - green smoothie, smoothie

I loved Michael Pollan's book "In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto" in which he summed up his research into what we should really be eating by saying "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." I then thought, O-K, that's great advice but how do I do that? Salads?

Victoria Boutenko's book answers my question so completely that you would think that she was wondering the same thing. Many of the plants that are the healthiest for you (the dark green types) are difficult to eat raw in any meaningful quantity; kale, mustard greens, spinach, collard greens, etc. This is why so many people either cook them to death or smoother them with high calorie dressings. The Green Smoothie Revolution book showed me how I could add all of things that I believe are healthy for us (leaves, fruit, and berries) to my diet in an easy and fun way.

I was introduced to the Green Smoothie by a friend who had been eating this way for a while. I have to admit that when I made my first one I looked at it and said "Really?" It looked like something that Yoda, the swamp dwelling Jedi master from the Star Wars movies, would eat. Green, thick and kind of bubbling. I pride myself on my cooking abilities, especially in making a dish look appetizing by skillful plating. This did not look good; as a matter of fact my other friends used quite a few "colorful" expressions to describe my concoctions, none of which are appropriate here. The taste however is an entirely different matter. The simple blend of bananas, strawberries and kale was sweet, earthy and fresh. I was hooked!

In addition to the wonderful recipes for green smoothies (with alluring names such as "Hawaiian Hibiscus", "The Laughing Gorilla" and "Green Monkey Face") the book also offers moving testimonials and, most importantly, sage advice from Mrs. Boutenko. I have grown to really enjoy mustard greens as a part of my smoothie meals but she gives a great reason to "rotate" your choice of greens. It seems many plants have ingredients in them (including alkaloids) that could become slightly toxic if eaten in large quantities in order to encourage animals to vary their diet so that the plant would not be eaten to extinction. By regularly changing my choice of greens I can avoid this problem as each plant has a different chemical make-up. Another thing that surprised me is that pets enjoy this type of food as much as people do.

I will have to admit that I am not planning to eat 100% raw foods. I believe that humans are omnivores and that a varied diet is a good thing. However, I feel much better now that I have made my daily Green Smoothie my major meal of the day. I still enjoy my cheeses, breads, butter (I LOVE good, cultured Vermont butter) and meat, but I am eating much less of each of them. Thanks to a great friend and this book I have finally learned a practical way to "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto Green Smoothie Revolution: The Radical Leap Towards Natural Health

This is a nice primer on a very easy way to amp up your nutritional habits.

I've been studying raw foods eating for the past week and the Boutenkos are definitely pioneers. The book has a brief testimonial from Victoria, a really neat Russian lady whose entire family at one point was diagnosed with severe medical conditions. Desperate for answers she met a lady who introduced her to the raw food diet. The entire family went 'cold turkey' and despite complaints and grumbling the daughter's asthma went away, and the son who was recently diagnosed w/juvenile diabetes, noticed that his blood sugar readings were dropping. Eventually the family was healed from all their medical conditions and they became sold on the raw foods way of living.

The Green Smoothie was a culmination of Victoria's efforts to figure out why her family had seemed to reach a plateau. She researched chimpanzee diets and found that leafy greens comprised a high part of their diet. However she admits that she had very little tolerance for raw leafy greens and found them disgusting.

After trying to blend the raw greens in a blender, which resulted in a stinky mess, Victoria added a banana and realized the fruit masked the smell of the greens. So she and her family began incorporating this vital nutrient into their diet by making 'green smoothies' w/fruit, water and greens.

The book contains a testimonial, important pointers for preparing smoothies such as rotating greens to avoid buildup of 'alkaloids', opinions on what ingredients add to or detract from an effective smoothie, a section w/smoothie recipes, and an appendix, which contains a testimonial from a 400 pound guy who found that green smoothies were the only way he could cut his cravings and effectively complete a weight loss program.

It's a very nice little book and it's something anyone can do. All it takes is water, greens, fruit and a blender. It would make a very nice gift for someone who needed a simple way to start improving their diet.

I have actually been drinking them and notice a big difference in my energy. Raw foods can be intimidating but this is such an easy first step. The book also has footnotes is well researched.

Green Smoothie Revolution by Victoria Boutenko

Review by Susan Schenck, author of The Live Food Factor

Inspiring, informative and entertaining

As the author of a raw food book myself, I rarely come across a related book in which I find many new facts. But it is clear that Victoria did her homework, because I found myself highlighting sentences on nearly every page. Though Victoria includes ample science in her book, the tone is very conversational and easy to read.

I was delighted to come across many surprising new tidbits such how, if you blend the greens you only need half as much as you do if you eat them in a salad; green grapes, tomatoes, apples, bell peppers (and more) are really unripe fruits; a zinc deficiency can create a lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and much, much more!

Victoria also teaches us how processed foods have created degeneration that progresses with each generation! She found that ear lobes get smaller, which reflects a lack of cartilage in the body. She points out that the current generation of children is not only more obese than ever, but also is using more psychiatric drugs, braces for the teeth, and glasses. Our lack of good nutritious food (especially greens) is clearly degenerating us as a species.

I was most impressed with the research Victoria did on greens. For example, I used to have a nosebleed at least once a week until I switched to a raw diet 7 years ago. From reading this book, I realize now it was a lack of Vitamin K. Victoria lists the many symptoms that come from a lack of Vitamin K, which is found abundantly in greens. There plenty of other useful lists, such as cultivated greens, wild edibles and weeds, herbs, medicinal herbs, and most important: poisonous plants (with a stern warning to learn how to identify these before going foraging for wild plants!)

Victoria assures us that if we start blending the greens with plenty of fruit we will love the smoothies. She argues that this is good food combining, since greens are not really vegetables--because they are not starchy. Then, as we get used to them, we will not need so much sweet fruit, but will crave and enjoy the bitter greens. There is info on how to get even your cat to eat green smoothies (dogs are easy!) and also guidelines and tips for green smoothie production.

The book also contains personal stories, such as the delightful one about how her grandchild became hooked on green smoothies while in the womb, and another about leaving green smoothies out for wild animals -which led to, among other creatures, a bear coming for green smoothies! In one appendix we learn about how the Boutenko family went raw, and in another we read about how one guy lost 230 pounds in a year by doing green smoothies. (When will the TV "Biggest Loser" contestants catch on to this?)

All of the above makes the book worth the price even without the recipes. Yet the recipes make up the half of the book--there are 72 pages of them! Many are donated by readers from all over the world, and there are even green smoothie soups, puddings and body care recipes!

This book has truly inspired me to get back on track with more green smoothies. I had gone down to just one a day because of my fondness for chewing. But reading this has definitely inspired me to upgrade my "raw glow" to a "green smoothie glow." - Green Smoothie - Healthy Eating - Green - Smoothie'
