Casual Watch - casual watch, watches

I have had this watch for a month now and it has been an absolute joy to wear. As an avid watch collector, I rarely wear any watch for more than a few days in a row, yet I keep coming back to this piece. The watch was purchased at well under $300 and at this price range, few, if any watch would match the features on this one.

Firstly, the watch uses a mechanical hand wind movement. For those who are more into watches, the exact name of the movement is the ubiquitous, yet reliable and robust ETA 2801 which is a hand wound version of the famous ETA 2824 workhorse of the Swiss watch industry. This movement has a power reserve of about 40 hours so you should wind the watch once a day and my particular watch has been keeping time within 6 seconds a day which is totally acceptable for an unadjusted mechanical movement. It is rare nowadays to find a watch in this price range with a fine Swiss mechanical movement.

This Hamilton is an homage to the military field watches the company used to manufacture, so emphasis is placed on sterility and legibility, both of which are apparent in the styling of the watch. The dial is highly legible without any clutter or unnecessary writing, the layout is exactly like that of the military field watches of yore. The modestly sized 38mm diameter case is finished with a coarse yet durable bead-blast finish that is very pleasant to look at and goes very well with the olive/drab dial. The crystal is scratch-proof sapphire which is slightly domed to give the dial a bit more depth. Even the hands on the watch are bead-blasted so there is not a single shiny surface on this watch, you can say this is a completely "anti-bling" watch. The crown is very large and easy to grip to facilitate the pleasant task of winding up the movement. To facilitate strap changes, the lugs are drilled through so all you need is a pin to swap straps. The lugs are also purposely made long so as to easily accommodate 1-piece military style straps. I usually switch a new watch off its stock strap because they are usually quite cheap or simply not up to par for me. This watch however, comes with a surprisingly good strap. The strap is heavily padded olive/drab canvas with nubuck backing, the strap holes are nicely fitted with rivets for durability and the fixed holder consists of small, steel retainers.

PROS:

-Reliable Swiss mechanical movement (ETA 2801) almost impossible to find in watches in this price range

-Scratch proof sapphire crystal

-Highly legible dial

-Oversized crown

-Easy strap change with drilled through lugs

-High quality build

-High quality strap

-Great features not found in watches of this price range (High Value)

CONS:

The only con I can point out on this watch is the small number "15" beside the date window that seems out of place. I would actually prefer this watch without the date window for an even more authentic military look and a more balanced dial, but for most people, the date feature is very important.

This particular model seems to have been discontinued by Hamilton, as they have been moving up in price. If you like the classic military look and appreciate a hand-wound mechanical watch, you are not likely to find another watch of such high quality and great features as this Hamilton Khaki Field. Hamilton Men's HML-H69419363 Khaki Field Green Dial Watch

I bought this watch because I know what it is, and am already a Hamilton fan.

What is not appearant by the simple photos posted (at Hamilton and here) are the multitude of positive little details this watch has. Drilled lugs make changing the band really easy. It has a nicely engraved solid back. The band has grommets installed in each strap hole position which will prevent undue wear on the band, and look darned nice to boot. There are three stainless wire loops which serve as the first keeper for the band tail, and also a canvas one which is the free floating second keeper. The band is leather lined.

The watch itself is very smooth to wind and keeping excellent time for the short time I've owned it. It's a casual style best worn with khakis or jeans - don't expect a dress watch. That said, it's a quite nice look. It is easily read and has decent lume, which many field watches don't.

I've owned mine for 3 years now. It loses about 30 seconds A MONTH. I'm now on the second band, but the watch itself looks brand spanking new. I bought it because it reminds me of the one my Dad kept in his jewelry box -- a leftover from his time in the Army Air Corps in WWII. This is a great piece of little machinery.

As is usually the case, the photos of this watch simply do not do it justice. I was looking for a retro-style field watch that wasn't too expensive, and this watch delivered, big-time.

- The case. 38mm diameter, 10mm thick, sand-blasted steel. The look is very nice. Polished surfaces tend to show even light scratches very easily, whereas this surface seems to hide them.

- The crystal. Synthetic sapphire, and I can attest to that. On the second day wearing it, while putting on a coat, I accidentily whacked the watch on the corner of a wall, smack-dab on the crystal. Not a scratch. Unlike some crystals that are elevated above the bezel, and therefore cause distortion if viewed at an angle, this crystal is slightly domed, and the edge is flush with the bezel, for superior readability at an angle. The curvature also avoids casting nasty reflections.

- The movement. An ETA manual-wind 2804-2 swiss movement. Just what I wanted. Self-winding mechanism would just add more weight and complexity, and I wanted it to be light and thin, and reliable. Rate is outstanding. I'm running within chronometer specs, for a small fraction of the price. It would be difficult to find a quality ETA swiss movement in a watch cheaper than this one. This is a real value.

- The strap. Nice, good looking, fits the watch style perfectly. I took mine off and put the watch on a Zulu strap.

- A true field watch. Nothing on this watch is shiny, which would cause glints or reflections while outdoors.

And yes, I really did buy a second one. - Casual Watch - Watches'

Ishuffle Ac Charger - charger, ipod

This power adaptor comes with an USB dock cable, all for about 1/3 of what you pay for both items from Apple. It works flawlessly and appear solid, of good quality. Beware of cheaper priced items from marketplace sellers. They are not the same thing! I threw one away, it looked so cheap, I was afraid to use it, and ordered this one instead. Sonnet Technologies USB Wall Charger with USB-to-Dock Cable for iPod (White)

I have a 30gig viveo and my wife has a new shuffel. This product works well with both. The usb port is compatable with all Ipods. Charges 30gig from dead to full in 1.5 hrs, shuffel around 1 hr. A "must have" accessory if you dont want to babysit your computer while your Ipod charges!

I purchased the Sonnet USB Power Adapter for iPod model # IPOD-AC-CHG-W.

I have an iPod 4G 3rd Generation Ipod Nano. I had to contact Sonnet tech support because initially I plugged my iPod Nano into the charger and got a green light, but there was no indication that it was charging. I spoke with Tech support at Sonnet and they told me that 3rd generation Ipod Nano users must use the included small usb adapter. So you plug the adapter into the usb port of the wall charger then you attach your Ipod USB cable to the adapter, then attach the Ipod. I found that the long cable that comes with the adapter does not fit as easily as the one that comes with your Ipod (long white USB cable), so I therefore recommend you use the original one that came with your ipod. Once you have it all set up, you will see a red light indicator on the charger. My Ipod displayed "Charged" message when complete, but the light remained red.

The cable could (and should) be about 2 feet longer. It's too short and it's difficult to connect to a ground electrical outlet and still be able to place the Ipod in your night-table. Apart from that, it does the job well.

I bought several of these and they basically work well. They are nice and compact and certainly do the job. They have a green light on them that turns red when the iPod is plugged in. On some of them the light would stay green when you attached the iPod and never turn red. I don't know if this is indicative of a problem, but they seemed to keep charging even when it was still green.

If I only needed one for home I might buy something better. A much better one is only going to cost a few bucks more. But for casual use these are probably fine.

Worked fine for charging on US 100 voltage. But when I took it on a European vacation, after a few charges on 220 voltage, the light turned red and it would not charge anymore. Testing back in the US with alternate cords and different iPods confirmed the charger doesn't work when connected to an iPod. Disappointing.

I bought this item because I didn't feel like spending the extra money for an Apple charger or buying a really cheap product, so this seemed like a good compromise. I chose this one because of the overall positive reviews that it received. It worked great for about a month and I was able to charge my Ipod Video maybe 5 times, and then it just suddenly burned out. When I plug it in now, the light doesn't come on and the Ipod doesn't recognize that it is connected at all, and the charging indicator on the Ipod doesn't come on either. I checked the USB cable that came with it and it seems to be fine (for now), so at least I got an extra USB cable for my $10. Maybe I was just unlucky, but after my experience, I would recommend spending the extra money and buying a genuine Apple charger unless you can find a cheaper product that is definitely reliable, such as one from another brand name company. This way, you can also guarantee that your Ipod won't be damaged by some cheap charger (thankfully mine wasn't). - Charger - Ipod Accessories - Chargers - Ipod'

Collectors Item - collectors item, retro toy

My son loved this toy at first. But withing 10 minutes of playing with it, the internal string (meant to keep the slinky from being stretched out) was wrapped around the slinky, making it a wadded mess. It took me about 5 minutes to unwrap it. Ten minutes later my son was in tears as it was wrapped up again. Essentially, normally play, even just pulling it, causes it to fall over and get wound up in a knotted mess. Not good. I cut the cord to prevent this the next day (15 repairs in 5 hours is too many for me). Lots of fun, my son had a blast all day. He'd put a book on the tail, get on the bed and pull it till the tail came whipping up over the bed (no, he didn't lose an eye. =)) Negative of this is it stretches out the metal slinky, and in less than a week the toy is useless. However, he enjoyed that week a lot more than he would have enjoyed a year with it had the cord remained attached. Retro Slinky Dog

Slinky dog may be cute, but he doesn't hold up too well. The nose will fall off, making it a possible choking hazard for very small children. Also with kids, they tend to tangle and bend and stretch the slinky in the middle, the actual coil does not hold up to ALOT of handling, the metal gets bent easily and it can and will tangle to the point of being beyond repairable...I think the person with the idea, had a good idea, but didn't follow through on the fact that very active, small children were going to actually play with this toy.

well we purchased this toy - slinky dog, because our son loves toy story and this looked like the best slinky we could find. we recieved it quickly and my son has a blast with it. even hugs it even though its not soft.. ha ha! the legs do not move which i did not expect them too, but for those wondering about this toy it has wheels on its feet and a string out its head thats about 4-6inches long. there is a string from upper torso to backend and through the tail inside the slinky parts so the toy does not over extend. (helps keep the slinky part not stretched out) - for those that never had a slinky toy if they stretch too fast the become misshaped and are hard to reshape if at all. also like to add my son did get it a little of the slinky bent next to the body but its a toy and kids do things like that it really didnt ruin the look or funtion of the toy at all. and its easy to clean. ;)

IN SHORT: the toy is great and rolls on wheels.

My toddler loves Toy Story and everytimes he watches it, he says he wants a slinky dog. I finally found this dog, and he was so excited when it came in the mail. It doesn't really roll over the floor very easily, but all in all he enjoys it.

The toy stands just fine. The person who complained it doesn't stand either got a defective one, or cut the center string. My daughter thinks the thing is great. I doubt it's very durable, but it's not very expensive, either. If your kid thinks slinky dog is great, go ahead and get it. It's a good purchase for pleasing the little one.

Because of the price I almost passed up Slinky dog. I'm glad I decided to buy him because he's so cute and a lot of fun. The wheels on his feet roll nicely, there's a spring like device that connects from 1 end of his body to the other so the slinky body can only be stretched out so far, making it more durable. Definitely worth having!

This toy was purchased for my 2 year old granddaughter for Christmas because she is so crazy about the movie Toy Story. She knows all the toys in the movie -- and one of her favorites is slinky dog. i hadn't seen this little dog in any nearby stores, so ordered it online from amazon.com. it has held up well and is giving her many hours of enjoyable playtime while she hauls it around the house. I am happy with my purchase of this toy. - Dogs - Slinky - Collectors Item - Retro Toy'

Nail Pullers

We were removing carpet that had been installed over a beautiful wood floor. The carpet pad had been stapled down to the floor. About 80% of the staples could be removed easily with this tool, and removing them left only very small holes, since the staples got pulled up almost vertically. The cam action worked well.

However, 20% of the staples had been driven down too far (or maybe walking on them for 20 years pushed them into the floor), and this tool couldn't get a good grip on those low lying staples. The jaws would close on the staple, then slip off. We tried prying them up a little with a screwdriver or chisel, but that approach didn't work too well.

We finally got the last staples out using ordinary vise grips, which would hold onto the tops of the staples. The vise grip approach was more work, took longer, and left bigger holes.

If this nail remover had better grip on those low lying staples, it would have been perfect. Since it worked well on 800 out of a thousand staples, it was still worthwhile. The Extractor Nail Remover

These pliers are great if you are doing a home renovation. Pull nails straight out the back of moulding. Great for small nails that you can't pull with the claw of a hammer. Leverage makes for less effort as well. Helpful if you are keeping old moulding or just getting rusty nails out of the way.

This is a specialty tool that excels at its task. A quality tool at a fair price. Well worth the money if you must pull lots of nails. Even for occasional use, it's one of those great tools to have in the tool box. Obviously, if the nail is embedded into the wood, this tool won't help as you must have *something* to grip. Nonetheless, even a very small surface was sufficient as the tool is designed to increase the gripping pressure. It definitely works as advertised and causes no or minimal wood damage. This blows away every claw hammer or utility bar that I've used in the past. My neighbor also loved it when he was doing fence work and needed to remove many nails.

This product delivers as promised. I have had it for over a year now and find I use it all of the time for removing finishing nails from baseboards, door trim and walls. It pulls the nails with almost no effort and grips nails that have very little of a head exposed. It was a little pricey but in the end, not only is it extremely well made, it is worth every dollar I paid. I highly recommend it!

If you are pulling nails (reusing material) this tool is a must have. It will pull nails without heads or pull nails through the back of pieces. Very little to no damage to the material after the nail is removed. It will damage or not pull larger common nails when trying to pull out the back (better to hammer them out the face and then pull). I mainly use this to pull finish nails out of trim that I am going to reuse and it works flawlessly for that.'

Hex Bit Set - driver, hex bit set

All the screw driver bits are Phillips size 2. It would have been better had they included a couple of different sizes and a regular flat blade. I also have had a problem with the Impact Ready Pivoting Bit Tip Holder snapping in two. I have been able to get it back together, but it has happened more then once. All other bits work well. DEWALT DW2169 38-Piece Impact Driver Ready Accessory Set

Dewalt sells another "Impact Ready" kit with more variety, but lacks the 1/4-3/8 drive for sockets. Thus, forcing you to buy both kits. The pivot drive probably won't be as useful as Dewalt markets it to be, and having a case full of #2 bits isn't going to get me very far when I need to drop down cement board or decking using square drives. I've been using Bosch philips bits with my Makita impact and they've held up perfectly, so I really wanted this more for the 1/4-3/8 drive and sockets.

I was ready to pick up one of these at a woodworking show. Then I noted that all the screwdriver bits are Phillips. What's with that? I work on furniture and almost all my screws are Robertson (no, I am not Canadian). Anyone wanting to use an impact driver would, I think, prefer Robertson or Torx over Phillips bits that were originally designed to cam out under too much torque. I'd happily buy one of these sets if they had a choice of bits other than a Hobson's choice.

Very handy kit. I would love to see one with either more variety of bits or without the phillips bits at all (for a lesser price). The nut drivers, sockets, swivel, and 3/8 socket adapter are worth the price of admission as is, so I consider the huge number of #2 philips bits a free bonus. With square head and torqs bits gaining popularity, especially with decking, it would have been nice to see them included, and would have made this an easy 5 star. Great kit though.

As for the swivel coming apart, you can't run it while pushing it hard against it's maximum angle or the impact will pull it apart. That's common sense to anyone with an understanding of how swivels work, but I guess the "impact ready" name makes some people think they are indestructible. It's a tool, if used properly it will work great for you.

Compared to the mikita and the milwaukee set, this one wins out hands down. You get a 3/8 socket adapter vs 1/4" and the tools seem to be of much higher quality. They give you drill bits, but that's really not the realm of the impact driver, so their omission is understandable.

I first saw this product on a television coverage of the 2008 tool expo on HGTV. A dewalt rep was showing off the benefits of the new bit designs and angled driver. These accessories are designed for impact drivers that have the collet lock for the bit rather than a chuck. They are also hardened to stand up to high torques that impact drivers generate. I have been real happy with these and whole heartedly recommend them if you own an impact driver and have been looking for a set of good bits for it. The cases are typical of dewalt and works well.

Combined with my DeWalt impact driver, the angle driver in this set has gotten me out of some serious tight jams while driving countersunk self-drilling wood screws. It is GREAT. The rest of the set is an excellent compliment to the angle driver, especially the sockets & adapters.

If you're a pro, get a spare angle-driver - you won't want to be without one if you ever lose or break it.

I have been very happy with this set. It comes with plenty of bits and the sockets which are handy. I haven't broken any bits with my impact driver yet but there are extras of the more heavily used ones so that is nice. The case is nice and holds things in place, unlike the makita set I also bought which eventually allows things to come loose and then fall out when you open it. Overall a nice set for the money. - Driver - Drill Bits - Hex Bit Set - Bosch'

Cycling Accessories - safety glasses, gun

My first pair of these I found in a ceiling. They fit my face perfectly and are so comfortable that a lot of times I forget I'm wearing safety glasses. I use them for work in drop ceilings and such. The big downside of these glasses are the hinge. They will break after a couple of weeks. I try to be really careful putting them on to not bend the arms. They will break usually on the arm side of the hinge. Rarely they will break at the glasses side. I can normally find these on sale on one site or another and just buy them in bulk. When one breaks I take off the good arm and use it later on. I've refurbished countless pairs of these. I've tried many different safety glasses and these have been the best so far. The indoor outdoor ones are of little use. They aren't dark enough for outside and just a little to dark for an unlighted ceiling. I prefer the glare blocking color of the coffee ones but the gray is acceptable and usually I find them on sale. I gave these a three simple because of the hinge. Other then that these are great. I don't have a problem with glare or fog. They hold up to scratching fairly well. Pyramex Ztek Safety Eyewear, Indoor/Outdoor Mirror Lens With Indoor/Outdoor Mirror Frame

I have bought these glasses before, I use them for everything from motorcycle riding to eye protection while mowing the lawn. They look good and have a nice wrap around design. They were shipped quickly. Would buy them again.

These Pyramex safety glasses are great when working with power tools around the house or at the range. The glasses are very comfortable and, most importantly, provides good eye protection even on the sides.

Recommended!

CFH

I just love these stylish safety glasses. They're strong and cover the entire eye area while still maintaining a look of hipness that you'd expect from expensive sunglasses. Add in the reasonable price and these are a no-brainer for anyone needing eye protection - or even a costume accessory. The vibrant colors make the possibilities endless!

These glasses are by far the best safety glasses I've had thus far. They are not too dark for working in the shop or too light for when I'm out side. They also fit nice no rubbing on the nose or ears and are tight that they don't slide down when I look down. That means a lot to me because I have a small face and head and they fit perfect.

I ordered "purple" haze safety glasses...two pair for my daughter and a co-worker who's favorite color is purple! The picture looks purple, but when I received them...they are blue. I am very disappointed about the color as I really wanted them to be purple, but the quality of the glasses is good. I would send them back, but it's really not worth the trouble for such a low priced item. - Safety Goggles - Gun - Pyramex - Safety Glasses'
