Video Production - monitor cleaner, lcd cleaner

I bought the Monster Screenclean kit about 6 months ago still got some left. It contains the towel and the push spray bottle and it works like a charm on my LCD Samsung and MacBook screens. No residue! Monster ScreenClean LCD Display Cleaner 2 Bottle Screen Clean Mini Package (MPC CLNKIT-SM)

I was using wet wipes for computer screens before, but they required a lot of effort to clean the screen. No more efforts! Monster works just fine. I just sprayed it on the provided cloth and wiped my monitor. It took less than 40 seconds to be done. There are some reviews that say it leaves streaks, but I think that it's because they apply the spray directly on the screen, not on the cloth. However, it's said on the instruction that it should be applied to the cloth.

This product is great! It works quickly and really well. It doesn't leave any streaks and the cloth doesn't leave behind any lint. I liked the fact that this package was small enough that I can take it in my laptop bag and have it whenever I need it.

My boyfriend and I got this for our laptop computers, and it works WONDERFUL! Takes away all the streaks and everything. Just make sure you spray the spray on the cloth, then wipe the screen. Don't spray the screen and then wipe, I think that's what leaves the streaks. Overall a great product for the price, comes with two bottles and a cloth. Awesome.

This product comes with two bottles of cleaner and a small 4" x 4" baby blue microfibre cloth. You should only use the cloth it comes with, because other cloths can scratch up your displays. You spray the cleaner onto the cloth then rub the cloth gently in a circular motion on the surface you wish to clean.

I tried this on a Samsung 46" LCD television set. The cloth is really too small for a job like that, although it was manageable by taking my time. Over a surface area that large the cloth might get too much dirt on it to keep using it, but I folded it and flipped it around a few times to make it work. It cleaned the screen and left no streaks or scratches, so in that respect it was a success. The product is designed, according to the packaging, for cleaning the LCD screens in automobiles, which are obviously much smaller. It would probably be perfect for cleaning the screen of a Nintendo DS or other handheld electronics.

The stuff you spray on it should last you awhile. You'll probably only use it every few months, and that's if you don't put it in the junk drawer next to the crazy glue and forget you have it. So if you have a spray-on cologne that you only use every few months that should give you a good idea of how long it will last, but multiply that by two because there's two bottles of spray.

The cloth is supposed to be washed alone. I know I'd feel kind of stupid spending $1.50 to wash a load of laundary consisting of nothing but a 4" x 4" baby blue microfibre cloth. It's supposed to be dried on low heat with no fabric softener, but you can choose to air dry it instead. It probably doesn't take very long to air dry a 4" x 4" baby blue microfibre cloth, so I'd say go with option B on this one.

I tried this product immediately after receiving it in the mail. I am truly pleased with it. The product does what it says and says what it does. If you buy this product, You will not regret it. Also, make sure to only use the soft blue cloth for cleaning your LCD screen which comes with this item. Trust me, this product works. - Monitor Cleaner - Video Production - Lcd Cleaner - A Waste Of Money'

Labeling Tapes - label maker, dvd labels

These labels, when aligned correctly, can create a label for the hub of a CD or DVD. Unfortunately, the first label printed after loading the spool is often aligned incorrectly, wasting a label. Small file-folder labels are an adequate substitute. DYMO LabelWriter Media Label, CD/DVD, White, 2-1/4", 160 per pack

I used Memorex's full disc label on DVDs I've created at home, however, the stickers heat up in the DVD player and warp, then get unbalanced and cause the player to start vibrating and before you know it you can't read the DVD anymore.

These smaller 2.25" labels don't have that issue. They might not cover the entire disc, but at least you can play them without any hassles.

Hope this helps you avoid wasting money on the full disc labels.

-Matt

As stated in an existing review. Black text on a white label. Nothing more. I have both LabelWriter Turbo 330 (at work) and Turbo 400 (at home). Both work great, but the Turbo 400 loads much easier and does not waste a label when loading. I'm usually switching between label formats. If I only had one printer the Turbo 400 is my choice. Both work great on either a Macintosh or PC. - Cd Labels - Dvd Labels - Label Maker - Labels'

Epic Space Opera - aliens, adventure

I really enjoyed reading this book!

There are interesting characters, the plot makes sense, and there's lots of action. I'm a college-educated guy, so poorly researched writing, fiction or otherwise, doesn't fly well with me. The author did a good job of fact-finding, and raises some interesting ideas about the universe and who/what's in it. It has some pretty far-out stuff in it, but there's enough science and reality in it to allow the reader to suspend disbelief long enough to thoroughly enjoy the book! Dark Matter

I just finished reading "Dark Matter" last night and I loved every minute of it. I went into the book expecting a "small" story trying to tackle the mystery of dark matter and was blown away by a mind boggling epic. This is one of those rare books that comes along from an author who is somehow able to think completely out of the box and delivers great story on every page. I highly suggest this to anyone who is even remotely interested in science fiction or anyone out there interested in science who has yet to try out a science fiction story. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Dark Matter is partly the story of a young man named Marc as he goes from a graduate student at MIT, working on time travel, to the savior of an alien species. It is also partly the story of Dumyan, an Alien called an Altaran that goes on a journey to save his father's honor and restore him to a position of leadership among his people.

It is an interesting science fiction story that leaves virtually no cliché-rock unturned. The author often blatantly decries the clichés surrounding aliens in the science fiction genre when he says, "He had considered it a waste of time to read science fiction stories or watch movies about creatures from outer space with drooling, insect-like faces and slimy tentacles," But then he embraces them himself by having female aliens with human female characteristics and vice versa for males.

The book is a novella that struggles to find a niche at times as if it is meant to be for educated and curious adults, with long-winded descriptions of the science involved in black holes, time travel, and dark matter, but at other times, the writing style and simplistic imagery seems more suited for young adults.

The book is, by all accounts, self-published, but is listed as being published by Bane Science Fiction. The publisher has no web page, only an e-mail. The book has become widely popular on the websites that sell it, such as Amazon, where I purchased it. However, its humble roots are all too apparent at times. The author does a great deal of telling us what is unfolding, and almost never shows us. On the second page alone, the narrator gives us a long description of Marc, several parts make me laugh out loud. One line reads, "His head was filled with short, spiky dark brown hair." So where his brains should be, there was spiky brown hair?

The book takes pride in a unique and detailed story that actually skirts the border of fantasy as it barrels through space. Magic is suddenly thrown into the mix abruptly. Dark Matter seems to be an attempt to overshoot the clichés that litter the science fiction genre, but ultimately finds itself comfortably fitting between the others. Not that the storyline isn't unique, it is engaging and fresh, but the devices used in this story can be seen in many others. It's a recommended read for anybody that enjoys alien science fiction and the science behind our universe.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A young scientist, miserable in his personal life, somehow finds a way to make worm hole traffic possible and eventually encounters a race of alien beings who are in a war with another race of beings. As preposterous as this sounds the author not only makes it work, but makes it very believable and keeps your attention. The way he handles his main characters interactions with numerous alien species is brilliant and kept my attention throughout. The only thing i find i am disappointed with is that the author doesn't seem to have any other books, I would love to read something else by him!

It appears that a few people are motivated by prejudice or jealousy, and are writing ridiculous reviews that have no factual or literary basis. I enjoyed this science fiction immensely. I have recommended it to a number of friends. Everyone who read it thought it was well-written.

By the way, anyone can report inappropriate and hostile reviews to Amazon by clicking the link "Report this" at the end of each review. When Amazon receives a number of complaints, the offending review will be removed.

I have never before written a review of a book before I finish reading it. I recieved the sample on kindle and the ordered the full book. I do not understand the violent reaction of some of the critics. The book is well written and contains a good deal of humor. The main character is complex and the people he associates with are real. His reactions are real. I have no idea how the various aliens turn out, but I will stick to with the book to find out.

I do not understand the intensity of the critics who pan this book. They have an attitude more typical of people who see a religious or political disagreement.

Something esle seems to be going on, maybe something as petty as a reaction to the author's name, maybe some deep flaw in the critics' psyches.

Perspective readers should not be put off. Ignore these idiots. The novel is well and imaginatively written and (so for) has been a good read.

I just finished reading "Dark Matter" and found it to be very engrossing.

I found it hard to put down, and after putting it down couldn't wait to start reading it again.

I think if I could have stayed awake to read it through at one sitting, I would have.

I can see myself re-reading this book many times.

There are some very original ideas in this book that I haven't seen in other Science Fiction novels.

One in particular, the silupsal filter, really intrigues me.

I won't ruin the surprise of what it is, but it brought back the same feeling of, my God what if that really exists, that I got when I saw the "pods" in the first Matrix movie.

I found myself thinking many times, what if we are all just laying in a tank, our lives nothing but an illusion?

I had the similar reaction of, wow, what if the silupsal filter actually existed?

Character development is also very well done. I found myself really concerned with what was happening, and what was going to happen, to all the main characters. And that doesn't happen in a lot of books I've read.

In short I would recommend this book to any Science Fiction fan. - Adventure - Dark Matter - Aliens - Fantasy'

Angry Birds Silly Bandz - angry birds app, board game

I got this game because my grandkids (ages 10,9 & 7)enjoy Angry Birds on the cell phone. It is easy to play but I didn't think there was much to it. You place your cards in order, then throw the dice to remove the cards. Extra cards allow you to add more plays to your opponents. To win, you must flick one die at the pig to knock him over. Our first game was over so quickly that I was a little let down. But the kids LOVED it. They played over and over again. Angry Birds Card Game

It is Angry Birds, right? This card game came out when the electricity went off. We all had fun. It is easy to pack in a suitcase and when, in the summer, the kids were tired from too much sun - we played and played.

We play games in my family every Thursday night and recently since Angry Birds has become so popular I had to get this when I saw it on Amazon. We played it the night we received it in the mail and had a blast. The games tend to go really quick so it seems you are doing more setting up then actually playing. Overall, I would recommend this to any game enthusiasts who are just looking for something different and wanna have some laughs!

Purchased this for my son's 5th birthday. What a nice surprise - it's fun for the whole family to play. Note that it's a little tough to learn for the little ones, but with parents involved, really enjoyable. - Angry Birds App - Blueproton - Angrybirds - Board Game'

Strategy Game - strategy game, board game

I asked for this game for my 38th birthday--believe it or not! Every time I would take my 2 children into the local toy store I would stand and play this game which they had on display. Honestly, it is a great educational game for both my 6 and 9 year old children--you have to add up the dice and then figure out which combination of numbers is best to flip down. It really is fun and very addictive. I knew my kids would love to give it to me since they always saw me play it, and I also knew they would enjoy it and not realize they were having to do math! Double Shutter Tin

My daughter's 4th grade friends had fun competing with each other, trying to "shut the box" or get the lowest score. For my 1st grade son, it was a fun way to reinforce his addition math facts. All the kids liked it. We've purchased a couple more sets for birthday presents for friends. This version (Double Shutter)is a better made product than it's "junior" counterpart. This rendition has nice "shutters" (they are made of something similar to domino tiles),the box is felt lined and everything snaps shut into the tin. The only thing I don't like is the retail price. We've tried to purchase it on sale, which occasionally you can find it for 20 to 25% off at some stores (much better value then).

Our 5.5 & 7 year old girls enjoy playing Double Shutter. It's self contained, requires some thinking, can be played with one player, and travels well. I had never heard of the game but I enjoy it also.

This is a great game! It is really good as a car game, solo game, or a game between a couple of people. It is even helpful for younger ones to help develop adding skills and the ever important logic/strategy skills.

Great game! My 7 year-old was playing with it and our friends' 15 year-olds couldn't get enough of it. They wanted to know where I bought it so they could get one as well. Another friends 3 1/2 year-old was playing it as well. A good way to get your younger children playing a game while practicing simple math addition and number partnering.

Another Christmas gift for our three children and a hit with all of them. We've had the classic shut the box game for two years and unfortunately the game took a beating from our youngest child, currently 5. Their grandparents gave this version to them this year and it is not only a hit with all three of the children (10, 7 & 5), but is just as big a hit with adults. The fun thing about the original version and this game is that it can be played for long periods of time alone or you can create competitions with larger groups of players. Unlike the classic wooden version of shut the box, which was aesthetically pleasing but not too durable, this is very durable and definitely better with three younger kids (and friends) playing with it.

My family (husband, myself, and 7-year-old son) all enjoy playing this game together frequently. The quality of the game itself is high, with a felt-lined area to roll the dice in, sturdy tiles, and a tin container and lid. The object of the game is to get the lowest score by rolling dice, and then flipping down tiles in any combination to add up to that number (e.g., If you roll a 10, could pick 8+2, 7+2+1, etc.). You continue your turn until you are unable to flip down any more tiles and then the next player goes. Double Shutter encourages practice of addition facts for the younger crew: 1-12 for rolling the dice, and double-digit addition when adding up your score. For the parents/adults, it is addicting in attempting to beat yours and others' lowest scores! Highly recommended for families, adults, and children who are able to do simple addition for both fun and honing those addition skills.

I bought this game when my wife and I were on vacation near Washington D.C. At first she was a little skeptical, but that afternoon over drinks and snacks, I dragged it out and we started to play. Now, my wife is not much of a game player, but she loved it instantly, and we played for a couple of hours. After that, it became our afternoon "tradition" for the rest of the vacation.

Now, just last week, my grandson started to play it with me (he's 7.5), and he took to it and understood it immediately. We played at least 15 games, and he loves it. So far he's still counting the numbers on the dice, but I'm confident that very soon he'll be adding them at sight. Even my 5 year old granddaughter likes flipping the pieces up and down, though she hasn't quite caught on to the concept of the game yet.

One of the things I like best about it is that set-up is instantaneous--just tilt the box and the pieces flip up ready for a new game. Too, there's nothing to lose except, maybe, the dice, but they're pretty easy to replace anywhere.

This game is very durable, well-made, quiet, quick, and loads of fun.

I never played "Shut the Box" before getting this one. I thought after reading the description of the game that it wasn't going to be much fun. I bought this solely on the positive reviews. I am pleasantly surprised! I actually love this game. I bought this for my 7 year old daughter's birthday and what an excellent education tool it has been for her addition math facts. Basically, you try to shut the box on your turn by rolling the dice, adding the numbers together, then deciding which tiles you want to shut down. You keep doing this until you roll a number that cannot be added on the tiles. Whatever is left is your total for that turn (only count numbers that are showing, not those covered on the second row). Then it's the other person's turn. Keep score. The person who reaches 100 first loses. Another way to keep score is to give the winner of the round 1 point. The first one to 5 wins.

I've shut the box one time, my daughter twice... what an exciting event that is!! :) - Strategy Game - Classic Games - Board Game - Family Game'

Printer Cable

I recently needed to buy a USB cable for my new printer and I found out that there are many USB cables at very different prices. So, doing a search I found the "Belkin 10FT USBA/USBB Device Cable" but I was not sure if it would work for a printer. Since it was the less expensive I decided to give it a try. I'm happy because the cable works great with my USB printer and I found out that the cable actually exceeds the features displayed on amazon site. The cable manufacturer part number is F3U133-10.With the following features:- Hi-speed data transfer to 480Mbps - 10 FT (3m)- A plug/ B plug- High performance 20-gauge power wires. - USB logo guarantees cables are 100% compliant with current USB specifications (Works with all USB devices A/B plug).- Works with USB 2.0 - Connect a USB 2.0 or 1.X device to your computer.- Belkin lifetime warranty.- Gold plated copper contacts provide maximum conductivity and minimizes data loss.According to the manufacturer site you can connect your USB printer, scanner, hard drive and more to your computer. As I said, it works great with my USB printer.I definitively recommend it because I got the less expensive (good length of 10ft) and great quality option for a USB printer cable. I'm also happy because the cable specifications exceeded my expectations for the money I paid. Belkin F3U133-10 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable (10 Feet)

When I purchased this product I thought I was getting a USB version 1 cable. It turned out to be 2.0. Fortunately the package said it was backward compatible and it was.The book that came with my printer stated I needed a USB cable with a length of no greater than 6 foot, shielded, etc. They should tell you this before you get the printer. Fortunately, the 10 foot cable connected and worked flawlessly. I always try to buy Belkin since they generally have top quality products and good support.

one cannot write poetically about cords, but I can say this is super value. Much less than I saw on the market. Works great, quality is superior to what I was checking out for comparisons, and I was so THRILLED to have the longer length. If you need extra USB cords, this is a good deal.

At $3.99, this is a good price for a name brand USB cable, but only because they tend to dramatically overcharge on their prices. There are no differences with USB cables other than length and the shape of the connectors placed on each end. There are plenty of online retailers that sell USB cables for less than $1.00 and they will work just as fine as any high priced one you may see at BestBuy, CircuitCity, Staples, OfficeMax, Radio Shack, etc. Many of the high priced cables will include gold plated connectors which is just a gimmick, they provide no better connection that those without it. Also USB cables do not have speeds associated with them they way computers and laptops do. There is no such thing as a USB 1.1 or 2.0 cable so if you have an older USB cable when USB 1.1 was the only thing out, it will work perfectly with the newer USB 2.0 technology. They are made exactly the same, you're told you need a newer "high speed" hoping that you'll throw away you perfectly capable current cable and buy the new $40 gold-plated zero-loss oxygen-free cable when you really don't need it. As I said at earlier, $3.99 is a good price for this set, but you can find better if you shop around. If Amazon is the only site you trust buying from, definitely get these.

1-17-2005 Update. At the current price, this is no-longer a good deal.

I bought a new printer on Dell and was going to buy a USB cable from them but when I saw $25 for the cable, I decided to look elsewhere. When I saw this cable on Amazon for such a low price, I was concerned that it wouldn't work with my printer. I received it quickly from Amazon and it worked great. Higly recommend to everyone.

$4 for a USB cable, nowhere except Amazon.com can offer this price. Compared with other local retail stores ($19.99), this is a lot cheaper. The cable is exactly the same as the local stores' USB cable. Worth to buy.

Wow, the price on this USB 2.0 cable is just incredible! It's high-quality, high-speed (USB 2.0), and just all-around excellent.

Plus, it can be used with more than just printers. You can also use it with many external drives (hard disk, DVD drive, CD drive, Zip drive, etc.) that use USB 2.0.

This is the best USB cable to get.'

stanley - stapler, stanley

I have this staple gun and it works fine. The only problem is that the staples are now unavailable. I used to buy them at my local Lowes home improvement center, but they don't carry 1/4" 6.3mm or 5/16" 7.9mm staples anymore. Neither does Ace Hardware or Home Depot or amazon.com or any other place I have found. In fact, I have spent more time trying to find the staples than the gun is worth. I bought some 5/16" 8mm staples thinking that .1mm won't make a difference. Wrong. They won't work. So, I've spent about $10 and several hours trying to get this staple gun working without success. It would've been a LOT easier and about as cheap just buying a new staple gun. Just be aware. Stanley TR45 Light Duty Staple Gun

I bought it along with what were supposed to be the appropriate Stanley staples and the thing doesnt work. They get jammed in there and dont come out. None of the sizes it says work will properly function. The Harbor Freight staple gun I bought for 4 dollars worked better than this.

Stanley seems to have gone downhill over the years. Shame.

I bought the staples that are listed on the front of the package for the TR45 (3/8" 10mm) but when I opened up the package, the staples were just a bit too big and wouldn't fit - apparently you need 3/8" 9.5mm (written on the staple gun). Stanley, shame on you for printing the wrong size on the packaging. Impossible to find 9.5mm staples so I'm returning this and getting a different staple gun.

I bought this light duty stapler just for attaching papers to cardboard backers on a temporary basis. (targets to the backer for the shooting range) For this purpose, it is perfect and easy to use with inexpensive and easily available staples. - Stapler - Stanley'

Lathe

I've recently purchased this lathe and was very happy with it when I first received it however the flimsy tailstock and tool rest screws quickly became stripped with just moderate amount of torque to them. This proxxon lathe could have been the ideal small scale lathe if the company didn't cheap out when it came to building the tool rest and the tailstock. I am going to call the company and get them to replace the tool rest and the tailstock and then I am going to put this tool on Ebay and get rid of it for the Taig lathe. You can buy the Taig with a turners set up for a small price and the components will last a lifetime. Proxxon would have had a great product if they had not gone cheap on the tailstock and the tool rest. I am going to buy the Taig and I'm sure I'll be happy with it. The Taig has many available accessories for it also and the Proxxon does not. I wish Proxxon had done a better job with the making of the lathe and with the making of accessories for it. You can get the Taig lathe at the Lee Valley site ( Canadian site ). The Taig lathe has many available accessories that can be ordered and I think I will be much happier with it. I give it 4 stars because it would have been a truly great small lathe if Proxxon had put a little bit of effort into the materials that went into the tailstock and tool rest.

Gary R. Proxxon 37020 DB 250 MICRO Woodturning Lathe

This is a Great micro lathe. We were immediately impressed with how quiet and fast the lathe is. It works beautifully. My son has been using it to turn miniature dollhouse vases, bowls, plates, cups, etc. He is able to use it inside without any loud noise. We are using this lathe with the jaw chuck that fits it. Proxxon 27026 Three Jaw Chuck for the Lathe DB 250 The two together work great and makes it easy to turn anything. We have several Proxxon products and we are totally blown away by the power, and ease of use that all their products have. We have never been disappointed by their quality. Kids Learning Calendar - kids learning calendar, classroom calendar

This calendar/weather chart seems durable and made of good quality. It is very large. I like it for the most part, but I have a few issues with it. 1) If you have a month that is 31 days long and begins on a Friday or Saturday (like January 2010), there are not enough spaces to put the 31st day of the month. I had to put it up at the top of the calendar. This may not occur very often, but it is slightly annoying. 2) The pockets which are used to house all the extra cards are not big/deep enough. They do not close with all the cards in them. There are many many many cards with this calendar - every sort of month/day/year/weather/season/holiday/event - which is great, but the calendar is not really made to hold them well, when not in use. Also, I wish there were more (bigger) pockets, so I could divide the cards into groups. Right now, I have all the month/year/day cards together, all of the event/holiday cards together, and all of the blank/season/weather cards together. Learning Resources Calendar and Weather Pocket Chart

I'm a homeschooling mom with young children and I love this calendar. It is quite large and extremely sturdy. It incorporates all the learning skills (days of the week, months of the year, weather, holidays, seasons) I'm teaching my little ones. This calendar is a great investment that will be used for many years to come!

I am a kindergarten teacher and this calenday is absolutely wonderful. It comes with all of the calendar items you would need and the numbers are two sided black and red for easy patterning. I would highly reccomend.

This seems to have pretty much everything we needed to learn / teach about the calendar, months of the year, days of the week, yesterday, today, tomorrow, weather... it's got a lot. I like the fact it has blank cards so we can add special days of our own like grandparents day, friendship day, arbor day. We don't actually celebrate these but who knows, maybe we will at some point. :) I like that the numbers for days are double-sided with red and black. I put the days that have already passed on black and the current day as well as those coming up in red so they can get a better visual.

Some things I found were that since there are a lot (!) of cards to be stored when they're not in use the pockets at the bottom aren't really big enough to hold everything inside. My solution was to turn most of the longer cards on their sides and just left them vertical. No biggie for me but that might bother someone who has to have everything out of sight if it's not being utilized. Another thing I did was to separate the school cards (100th day, 1st day, "no school" days,) the holidays, & the cards for other things like birthdays (cakes or balloons & hats) and flags for federal holidays. I put them into 3 separate sandwich bags so they wouldn't get mixed up together and then just put them in the yellow bags at the bottom of the calendar.

One thing I noticed was I had to throw out several year cards. I got rid of 2006, 2007, 2008, & 2009 with one swift toss into the recycling bin. Time sure flies sometimes. Maybe it would have been better to have 4 slots available to insert for the year instead of just one card, but I wasn't on the team for product development. There are still 4 or 5 years left to go before they run out too. But honestly my only real gripe about this product is that it doesn't include any hardware to hang it up. I managed with screws through the holes at the top though.

The material seems very durable and should stand up to my 4 quite well. Overall this is a great investment (and fun too.)

The website says size is 15 x 13 and actual size is 30 x 45! This will not fit where I intended and not even on a standard door. It does look like a great product perhaps for classroom use, but for home use, it is too large.

This is a great calender. It has the months, year, days (with plenty of holidays ect.), today, yesterday, tomorrow, season, and todays weather. The whole thing is really durable and well made. The cards that do in the slot are also very thick. The pictures are cute. They have plenty of holidays as well as blank ones to make your own. There are also pokets at the bottom to keep the cards you aren't using at the time. It is very big. I am very glad that I bought it. We use it at home as we unschool. I just keep it up and she enjoys looking at all that is on the calender and doing the weather.

I ordered this product for home use with my son. I am a kindergarten teacher and liked the included elements. There aren't so many items that a small child would be overwhelmed and the visual setup is effective. Unfortunately, I had to return it because the fumes from the plastic were overwhelming before I even unwrapped the product. I simply couldn't hang it in my child's room. I think that this would be a good product, but allow for significant time for it to air out before using.

Ok I really like this calendar/weather chart. The year goes up to 2015 (I was worried they didn't go up high enough but thats fine) and even the older years you can still flip over the other side and use a sharpie and write on them. The pockets are the only slight disappointment. The gold pockets on the bottom can hold a few smaller things, but definitely not the days of the week or seasons...they are NOT deep enough, the velcro will not close if you put more than 2 in a pocket at a time. it will bulge and my 2 yr old likes to rip them all out. So I have them in a baggie for safe keeping. There are lots of different holidays on there, Christmas, Kawanza, Passover, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Valentines Day, St. Patricks Day...and lots more. There are also plenty of other ones like for Birthdays, Presents, Balloons, Field Trips, No School, 1st Day of School, Last day of School, 100th Day of school, etc. Its cute, they have a few that are just Teeth, maybe for those children who lose their teeth. Its a very sturdy vinyl calendar thats pretty large in size. My only modifications to this other than making the gold pockets in the front deeper would be that Today's Weather whcih is just a plastic pocket be a little smaller. Overall this is great. I recommend it. - Classroom Calendar - Homeschool - Kids Learning Calendar - Calendar'

Arts And Crafts - rotary tools, woodworking

Dremel has really upgraded with this new plunge router attachment for the rotary tool. It fits all the usual corded tools and even the new Li-Ion cordless!Great new features like: Plunge capability, clear base, bigger base, rotary tool mounting is very sturdy and rigid, depth stop, big edge guide that goes all the way to the bit.The locking handle takes a little getting used to. Because it locks with one handle and plasic was used for the base there is a little flex back after locking. Plastic for the base to be clear is a benefit, but the plastic for the top plate was probably to save cost so they could price it closer to what the old router was. Anyway, when I really want to be accurate with my depth, I make sure to measure the distance from the bottom of the base to the bit with a metal scale. That way I know the depth is what I want. If it was all metal I'd give it a 5, but then the cost would probably keep me from buying it. It's great for the small router jobs I do(signs, door striker plate installation etc.) and I would recommend it! Dremel 335-01 Plunge Router Attachment

Fine tool for "small delicate projects" mainly because the wing nuts used to tighten the guide bar (for straight and circular routing) are made of plastic with a metal screw. It is impossible to tighten them enough to keep the tool working straight. On a solid wood project the tool jumped around because of the way it loosely sits in the plastic base. Because of the vibration the screws that are meant to retain the depth of cut unscrew them selves, changing your settings unless you really lock them in place. Yes; for small delicate projects, but be ready for a lot of troubleshooting and make sure you practice on some scrap so you totally know what you are getting yourself into :)

Making a plunge cut is chancy without a base of this nature. A Dremel tool is a petite router great for delecate operations. The base on this attachment is as large as one used in 1/4hp routers, negating an asset.

The attachment points of the router to the base are close together near the bottom end of the router. It is easy to wiggle the tool even when screws are firmly tightened.

This is a useful concept; it can do what it is supposed to do, but is less than ideal.

I almost didn't buy this thing because of Frederick Jurewicz's review saying you have to completely remove the Dremel each time you need to change a bit. But I did end up buying it and now I don't know what that guy was talking about. You can easily remove and replace bits on the tool without having to detach everything.

This is a great product for small applications. I am using it to route guitar cavities. Pickups, neck pocket, control cavity, etc. I can see what I am doing and can go slowly. Yes it takes more time than a huge router, but this works for me. It fits my dremel perfectly and you can see and have access to change the bit. I read another review that said you needed to remove the dremel to change the bit. That doesn't apply and is not correct unless the person had a mis match with the dremel. It specifies which dremels fit this rig. Be sure yours is on the list.

I love this thing. If you are doing small jobs try it. This is also the best price I found including ebay.

The Dremel plunge router base is a great accessory, but you have to recognize its limitations and live within them.

Rotary tools work at high speeds, but they produce low torque. This means they just won't chew through lots of hard materials very well-- or at all. The trick is to let the bit shave away the wood. This means routing in a series of passes, not all at once. When you use it this way, this plunge router base is a real winner. You can do decorative work with a Dremel freehand, but this base is the only way to achieve consistent depth in straight lines. With a little practice-- and some good luck-- it's even possible to "write" cursively with it on wood.

A real issue is the price of the bits. Dremel brand bits are very high quality, but they're also pricey. Brand X bits are cheaper, but they tend to wear out more quickly. Of course, this is an issue with all Dremel tools and accessories, not just this plunge base, but it is something to think about.

So, as is the case with all tools, you have to understand and live within its limitations. I'm very happy I bought this accessory, and I'd gladly do so again.

I do a lot of solid guitar body work and this attachment works very well for the tremelo cavities. Sturdy enough for my application but a little too much play between the two vertical posts and their sleeves for real detailed work, but that's probably not what this was designed to do. I am very pleased with the performance here.

The Dremel 335-01 plunge router base does work as advertised, up to a point. It does turn the Dremel tool into a small lightweight router. Side to side motion is easy to control, and freehand routing is possibile with this base. It could also serve as a tool holder for other applications, e.g., grinding.

I bought the plunge router base for inlay work. I intended to use it to clean out the recess for the inlay. It can be used for that purpose, but barely. The depth adjustment requires fussy trial and error, and once set is still imprecise & unreliable. The base is made of plastic and is too flexible. Therefore, the depth stop cannot control the depth of cut. As a consequence, the plunge feature is useless for precise work.

This a major problem for inlay that is, for example, 1/32" thick. The depth stop has to be adjustable to within 1/64" or so, to leave the inlay a bit proud, so it can be smoothed flush with the workpiece.

I cannot rely on this tool for inlay work. Inlay is the last step before finishing, and there is a lot of time and money into the workpiece by that step. A ruined recess could mean a ruined workpiece. Instead, I use a Veritas Router Plane (a hand tool). It is very precise and stable. People looking for a power tool for precise inlay work should consider the Stewart-MacDonald base. It costs twice as much, and is not a plunge base, but apparently it can be adjusted precisely.

If precise depth adjustment is important to you, keep looking. - Disappointment - Rotary Tools - Woodworking - Rotary Tool Accessories'

Contemporary Fiction - noir, contemporary fiction

There's nine stories here, and each one offers a unique little slice of filthy life. From the downbeat last day of a tormented old janitor in "Taking a Line for a Walk" to the dark and clever humor of the Ramones-inspired "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight)", Bird displays a remarkable insight into what makes the lowlifes and losers of the world tick.

He's at his best with the stories written in first person, and fortunately that's the majority of them. It's the voice, man: it's authentic and sincere and real, shot through with remarkable bits of insightful black humor.

Like this one, from the title story, "Dirty Old Town", which starts with the narrator getting the bee-jeezus beaten out of him:

"It was like my birthday in reverse. They gave plenty and I ended up with less than I started with."

That line kills me.

At .99 cents on Kindle, this is the kind of bargain you don't wanna miss. Bird is the real deal.

Favorite stories:

"Taking a Line for a Walk"

"Dirty Old Town"

"One Hundred and Ten Percent" Dirty Old Town (And Other Stories)

Nigel Bird walks a tightrope. He's a writer capable of great brutality, quick wit, and stunning grace, and you'll often find all three in the same story. The first story I read of his made me stand up and take notice, and everything I've read since has proven this particular pony's got a whole big bag of tricks.

Speaking of tricks, the price point of this baby's gotta be one. Nine stories from a guy at the top of his game for under a buck? I don't know what he's playing at, but I say snatch it up while the snatching is good...

Most modern noir I've read is purely centered on crime, revenge- the dirty deeds. Nigel Bird's `Dirty Old Town' takes this a step further, digging underneath the dirty deeds to the mere oil slick black soul of it. There is depth, humanity, an ironic sense of humor mimicking real life. His stories reach in and ask questions, where most noir forces the answer without taking the time to build the question. I find this incredibly refreshing and it shows Nigel's talent. I would love to read a longer work by this writer. For lovers of noir and crime this collection is a must read.

Quick praise for great author. A tight, well written collection of shorts by a writer I would dearly love to see in novel form. Nigel Bird has skill, creates very human characters it is easy to become fond of and does not write by rote.

Bird can tell a tale about a custodian in a school and on the next page switch to a story about dark, violent murders. And each story is completely different, yet completely compelling. The author's voice carries you along, not fitting a certain style, but sounding exactly the way you'd expect the character to sound. Well done, challenging writing here. Definitely worth picking up.

One thing I like about Nigel Bird's stories is that he doesn't look down his nose at the people in them - and they seem like people.Real people. People who've been around the block and people who have knocked a few blocks off. And both.

Also, he touches on so many worlds! An Olympic team! A school caretaker! Small time crims!

In the hands of someone like James 'butterfingers' Kellman, these stories could seem heavy handed and self serving but not when Nigel Bird is molding them into something special.

Dirty Old Town is a top collection.

This collection of 9 short stories has something for everyone - a dad and son burglary team, a pimp, a frustrated housewife. Every story is really well-written and each brings its own charms and surprises. The stories are really varied - touching, menacing, chilling, sad, violent - but what they all have is honesty and immediacy. My favourites were SISTERHOOD with its theme of getting revenge on racists, the title story DIRTY OLD TOWN - a thoroughly nasty little tale set in a gym, and MERRY CHRISTMAS (I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT TONIGHT) a heart-warming Christmas tale of a father and son burglary team. Really good stuff. I always look forward to one of Nigel's short stories because I know I'm going to get something fresh and exciting.

From the opening story `Drinkin Wine' Nigel Bird's collection of stories grabs the bull by the horns.

His use of dialogue and pacing is exemplary and his characters live and breathe smut and crime.

Nigel Bird bird writes with an assured narrative voice that never bores or relents from its insistence on making the characters live and that is the sign of a great storyteller.

He maintains this throughout and the concluding story `Silver Street' is both concise and brilliant.

Here is a sample from the opening story.

Any writer who writes tight narrative like this deserves to be read:

`It was a red carpet all right. Furry and stained with wine. Wouldn't have done a thing for me if it hadn't been for the silver stud. Way it rattled against her teeth made me tighten my thighs.'

He knows what he's doing and he knows how to deliver it.

I found this collection enjoyable and sharp.

Nigel Bird is edgy and has great tone in his stories.

The last story has the lines which encapsulate his ability to create a neat scar on the edge of velvet:

`The tip took without problem. If it hadn't been for the thickness of the scarring, nobody would have noticed anything was amiss.'

He writes with a tight control on his phrasing and characterisation, he is an immensely readable immensely enjoyable writer.

This is crime writing at its best.

It is entertaining and unpretentious.

Nigel Bird brings in menace seamlessly.

Read this collection, it is a crime not to do so.

No Pleat - flat front, preppy

Highest recommendation -- as soon as my (very picky) Dad tried these on, he loved them and has worn them every day since! He needed a new light-colored pair, and these are the 11th pair I got for him to try on (he can't get out to shop), and there was something wrong with every one before these. These are great, great, great. He loves the fit, the style, the color, and most especially the fabric. I'm going to get them for him in every color. I can't tell you how pleased we both are! Dockers Men's All Occasion Khaki D3 Classic Fit Flat Front Pant,Chalk,30X29

they were too long, so I was planning to re-hem them. When I folded over the new hem and ironed it before sewing, the pants melted and went promptly into the trash. Before you say "well you should have know how to set the iron before ironing" - I know how to iron and this was unexpected. - Pants - Preppy - Flat Front - Expandable Waist'

Child Wetsuit - thermal, swimwear

I put my 4 year old son in swim lessons, and he could not get warm enough in a swim shirt and trunks. I bought this suit in hopes that he would be warmer. It works! He is now ready to go to each lesson, with great enthusiasm. Perfect fit! This suit is made very well, and my son has no problem with the high neck. NeoSport Wetsuits Youth Premium Neoprene 2mm Youth'S Shorty,Blue Trim,4

Based on the good reviews, I ordered a size 6 for my six year old son, who is a bit shorter and very slim compared to others his age. He swims in the suit (no pun intended).

Nevertheless, I think it's a very good product -- sturdy and cleverly designed. My son finds it comfortable and it seems to keep him warm in the water even though it's baggy. The upshot: he makes it through his swimming lessons now and I'm grateful for that.

This is a great wetsuit for swimming lessons, beach, etc. Fits very well and seems sufficiently insulated with good movement in the arms. Only complaint from the actual wearer is the neck is too high and constricting...nothing a scissor can't take care of!

My son gets cold fast, so a wanted a fairly thick wetsuit. Also I was worried about the size, but it's very true to size. This really helps him stay warm for the duration of his swim lesson, so he gets the most out of it.

Bought this for my 6 years old daughter to keep her warm in the indoor swimming pool, the temperature was about 80 degrees. She finished the 1 hour lesson and wants to go back again. It works. She is 45 lbs. and 48 inches (80 percentile), the wetsuit fits perfectly, we got size 6 (based on the Size Info link on the product page). Actually, the high neck is a great design, and really keeps the water out. This is a high quality, high tech wetsuit, $40 for size 6, that's a good price.

I just bought this suit for my tall but very skinny 6 year old son. I ordered a size 8 and he has plenty of room to spare. The zippers are well protected from the skin with various tabs so this suit is super comfortable and is a good weight to keep him warm in our local swimming pool.

My daughter is very skinny and as such this wetsuit is not tight on her but does fit in length. Even so, she has not been shivering the way she normally does at swimming lessons! Before now, we did have her in a 'wetsuit' but it was a core warmer with lycra sleeves and it still had her shivering. This wetsuit is a thicker neoprene and it is making a big difference. We are very happy with this purchase. - Toddlers - Swimwear - Thermal - Kids'
