Inexpensive - weighing scale, affordable

I really wanted to like this scale as it was cheap and looked good. Out of the box I liked the sleek design, but that is where it ended. Weights seem highly inaccurate, and worst of all fluctuate all over. Today weights were within a 10 lb range, but since I got this over a week ago they have been in a 20 lb range. I thought I was doing something wrong, even looking up some online info on how to use these properly (the instructions that came with it were pretty lacking). But no, I was using it on a hard surface (hard wood floor) and not moving it. I'll be returning it to Amazon if they let me. Major disappointment. Kintrex Precision Glass Bath Scale, Large LCD Display, Sense-on Technology, 330 Lb Capacity, Clear and Silver

My wife recently purchased this scale. The scale itself is probably a three star product. Pretty cheap and lightweight. Not really sure it will stand up for the long term.

What was alarming was that the company is offering Amazon gift certificates to put up a review. I open the manual to look for the warranty information and there it is detailing how to put up a review and offering a $10 gift card to do so. I was shocked. I put a lot of stock in the reviews on a product and when I see a company blatantly paying for them its pretty alarming.

Buyer beware. I know my wife reported this to Amazon but I will be doing so as well. This is a three star product at best when the company isnt bribing people.

I bought this for my elderly diabetic father who needed to track his weight for health reasons. What originally sold me on this scale was the supposedly extra large LCD display however once I saw the scale, I was utterly disappointed. The screen is nowhere near the claimed extra large, and even I had a hard time seeing my weight, let alone my elderly father who has a hard time seeing already. On top of that, I can't really vouch for the sturdiness of this scale. the weighing platform does not feel as stable as i'd have hoped. Plain and simple, they shouldn't even be advertising "Extra Large LCD" on this scale because its exactly what it lacks!

I have owned a few digital scales over the years, and this one is pretty darn inaccurate. I ran a series of tests on it, mostly with dumbbells I had in my home ranging from 10-25 pounds. The tests fell into two categories.

1) Weighing the dumbbells themselves. The 10 lbs dumbbell weighed in at 10.6 pounds. The 20 lb dumbbell came in at 20.2 and the 25lb came in at 25.8. So while they were all in a bit heavier they were within a tolerable range.

2) Weighing myself with the dumbbells. This is where the results got alarming. After calibrating the scale and weighing myself, I then picked up each of hte dumbbells in succession. The 10 lbs dumbbell only added six pounds to my weight! The 20 and 25 pound dumbbells were also consistently low. I even tried putting them on the platform rather than holding them but it was still really wrong.

My conclusion is that cheap scales use cheap components. Ill be going back to Taylor, which frankly I never should have left. Returned item.

I guess I was expecting a lot out of this scale, but the scale seems to be a lot less accurate than I had hoped for. It was about 1.5 lbs off the scale at the gym, which wasn't a real big deal. I figure I would just add 1.5 pounds and that would be my weight. But then I started running some tests, picking up items and placing them down. Often times the items wouldn't register a weight change at all, showing the same weight as if I hadn't picked anything up. If I calibrated the scale per the instructions, a lot of times the weights would show up to be pretty different, with deviations as high as six pounds.

I have owned a few of these digital scales over the years and this one is just about the same mediocre quality as the others. I dont care how much a scale costs...you should be able to get on and off and get the same weight at the very least. If there is no accuracy then what are you paying for. My husband can guess my weight for free.

This scale is light but sturdy. It seems accurate, though I don't have a second scale with which to make a comparison. I wish I could say it reads more than I weigh, but I doubt that's true!

I like the fact that it does not require the annoying tap-and-wait-for-zero preparation action: just stand on it and wait for the final reading to flash three times. The numbers are large and easy-to-read.

Regarding some of the other reviewers complaints about the company "bribing" people for a review: there is nothing in their offer that requires a positive review. All they are doing is offering to compensate their customers for their time to make a review. This is no different than Dunkin Donuts or D'Angelo's offering coupons for filling out a survey online. Without this offer, I probably wouldn't have bothered to write this review. But I stand by my assessment.

I have not had the scale for very long so I cannot assess its durability over time. But so far I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this product to others. - Accurate - Weighing Scale - Affordable - Digital'

Training Aid - exercise, heart monitor watch

I purchased this watch to replace an older Polar heart rate monitor with dead batteries in the chest strap and the monitor. The design of that product required me to send both units in for replacement by a Polar service center. The cost was nearly as much as the cost of this timex heart rate monitor.

I am so pleased with this product. The instructon manual was clearly written and easy to understand. There are just enough functions for me without loading the product up with things I will never use. That makes using it simple and I can remember how to use it without having to refresh my memory by repeatedly rereading the manual.

The monitor is an excellent watch when not using the heart rate features. Best of all I can change the batteries myself when the time comes without sending the thing off in the mail to a service center.

On top of all that the price was reasonable. This is one of those few purchases that exceeded my expectations because everything that it does, it does a little bit better than I had hoped for. Timex T5J031 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch

I bought this HRM to help me as I began a training program, and decided on this one rather than a Polar monitor because it was cheaper and because it was a Timex. It was easy to use out of the box (I ran later that day); I set the time and after fiddling a little with the buttons I was able to use the timer and HRM functions.

The chest strap is snug and comfortable; the watch is unisex but for women with tiny wrists it might be a bit too loose; I myself wear it the tightest possible setting.

Aesthetically it looks great. It's not something that I personally would go around wearing all the time, but it's easy to read and the buttons are easy to use. The indigo is not ideal for when I'm running on the street in the evening since it lights up the numbers rather than the whole face of the watch, but this is a tiny issue.

Overall, fantastic product, and I'm so glad that something this well-featured is availiable at such a competitive price from Timex.

1. The product does everything that it claims to do.

2. The watch looks nice enough to wear all the time as your main watch.

3. The strap that needs to be used to send your heart beats is comfortable.

4. You can learn the HRM quickly if you fool around with it a little bit. If you are a computer nerd, you will learn it in less that one hour.

5. The only thing negative is that it uses batteries like crazy. I have to use a new battery every week and that costs $5. There is no shut off botton on the transmitter so it is constantly on and the battery drains.

Good.

1.Improved elastic band and toggle lock.

2.Coded digital transmitter, reduces interference,

(May not work with gym machines as most of these still are analogue receivers.)

3. Transmitter battery can be changed by user, costs $ 2.00

4. Watch battery can be changed at Sears Jewellery, less than $ 15.00

Bad.

1.Gimmicky. Too many modes. Just about figured it out.

2.The booklet describes all functions first and HRM set up last.

3. If above XL male, the HRM strap may be short, loose elasticity due over stretch.

Timex T5G971, which I lost, is better because:-

1.Simple On/Off switch to start recording also handles the audio alerts.

2.Recall and Recovery buttons at 7 o' clock and 5 o'clock positions. Self explanatory functions.

3.T56971 shows current BPM, records time of activity, max/min pulse, average pulse, time in zone, recovery rate, cals burnt, corrected for age, weight, gender.

I recommend T5G971, also it is analogue, costs $ 20 less, have used for 18 months, being non digital transmitter, works with most gym machines as of today.

This is an elementary and reliable heart rate monitor. It is easy to use and durable. I have used it since February and now routinely wear it for all exercise. The watch has a stop watch, lap timer, alarm, hrm, calorie counter, max/min/ and average heart rate counter and tracks where you are in desired heart rate zone. This is a terrific product --works well and does just what it is supposed to do. I'd recommend buying a spare battery for the chest transmitter; it wore out after about 50 hours of exercise use.

I recently purchased the Timex T5J031 heart rate monitor from Amazon.com to replace a Polar unit that cost twice as much as the T5J031. In every respect the T5J031 is as good as or better than the Polar unit that I had for 2 years. The T5J031 records your minimum heart rate, maximum heart rate, your average heart rate, the time spent in your predetermined training zone, calories burned, and also your recovery heart rate taken 2 minutes after ending your excercise session. Another great function is the ability to easily change the digital display on the watch to one of 7 different display combinations. The heart sensor strap is very soft and comfortable and easily adjusts to different lengths. I have a 48" chest and the heart sensor unit fits with no problem. All-in-all I couldn't be more satisfied with this unit especially for the price. Also, the buying process through Amazon.com was excellent as usual, with delivery at my house 6 days after ordering it.

After researching several HR writst monitors, I decided on the T5J031 for the following reasons: (1) the face is large enough to read without straining while exercising, (2) it's lightweight, (3) it has many features, and alerts when moving into/out of the different burn levels, (4) my everyday watch broke, and this monitor is also a watch, (5) the price was not outrageous, and (6) it's made by Timex. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

After owning 2 polar hrms, I opted for the Timex because of the ability to change the battery in the watch and the chest strap myself. My polar was out of warranty (M61) and about 7 years old. Most likely the cost of repair was nearly the price of a new watch. Anyways.

So the timex. I've used it now about 4 times. I found the set-up somewhat clunky, first of all, and for it to track heart rate, the watch must be in "chrono" mode which i personally find unnecessary. I don't understand why this has to be the case. Furthermore, the calorie expenditure estimate seems quite exaggerated. Sure, i would like to believe i burned 553 calories in 51 minutes, but i was on the elliptical, so i doubt it. Unlike my polar, the Timex does not ask for sex or age, just weight, further decreasing the accuracy of the calorie estimate.

There is often a discrepancy in the bpm between what the exercise machine says and what the watch says. Thus, in the case of this hrm, it is probably optimal for people who do not do their cardio on exercise machines with hr sensors. Thinking it would better deal with such interference was one of the reasons I purchased this digital model over an analog hrm. oh well.

Also, I have to get used to the chest strap again, the 2 pieces, vs. the snapping polar model that was more user friendly. It is also less sensitive and sometimes take 10 minutes to get a reading.

Despite my criticisms, I will most likely keep this hrm and deal with the issues. Maybe it is because i don't want to pay $[...] to ship it back? Perhaps over time I will like this watch better. Seeing my heart rate is motivating enough to keep me going, I suppose. - Heart Monitor Watch - Heart Rate Monitor Watch - Exercise - Fitness'

Home Monitors - ionization, kidde

The purpose of a smoke alarm is to alert you to a fire in your home. Thankfully I have never been able to test this unit, and I hope I never have the chance. So I'll just review the other reasons I bought this product.

I bought two of these units to replace older Kiddie model 1275 units that were malfunctioning and going off regularly for false alarms. My main concern was compatibility since I have 10 units in my house and did not want to replace them all. These new units used the same wiring, connectors, and mounting frames as the old units which was perfect -- installation took less than a minute per unit. The new units work with the old units perfectly -- pushing the test button on the new ones set off all the alarms in the house, just as they should.

I did have some hesitation about buying new Kiddie units since the old Kiddie units were malfunctioning. (To be fair, only one was malfunctioning, but I was tired of messing with troubleshooting and decided to replace the last two options.) However, only 1 in 10 of my existing units was malfunctioning, and they are 6 years old (out of a reported 10 year lifetime). The smoke alarms were installed when I bought the house, so I can't be sure the failing unit was not dropped or otherwise abused before installation. So far the new units have not produced any false alarms and are working well. Kidde i12040 120V AC Wire-In Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup and Smart Hush

I had a house full of Kidde 1275 smoke alarms, and after several malfunctions (including one electrical problem causing it to literally "go up in smoke"), I replaced them with the i12040 ... only because I wanted something that would "drop in" with the current mounting system and wiring. That they did, and I've had no false alarms in the month they've been installed.

Why the 2 stars? Previous to purchasing, I contacted Kidde (via their customer service web page) to ensure the i12040 units had the same mounting system as the old 1275's and to ensure the wiring would be compatible with all the Kidde alarms on the system. Kidde never responded. I found out from a do-it-yourself web forum that these would work fine.

Kidde's customer support is notoriously poor. The old 1275 units were deficient in design and/or manufacture - and Kidde refused to acknowledge this. I won't give high marks to a company that won't respond to customer service issues.

I needed to find a replacement for the older hard wired "Lifesaver"smoke detectors that were installed in my two 20 unit apartment buildings. It took me only 1 minute to punch out screw hole placement to existing set up. Rewired using the same set up and done. It works great and my tenants love the "Smart Hush" control to temporarily silence nuisance alarms. These will be my choice for all future replacements throughout each unit as needed.

I bought 7 of these as replacements for an older model that Kiddie no longer makes. Within 3 months of installation, I have had 3 false alarms (twice in the middle of the night). The false alarms came from 3 different rooms, so I have 3 defective units out of the 7 I installed.

Our home is very clean, we do not smoke, and the units that failed were in bedrooms (not the garage or kitchen). So, I can not see any reason for the false alarms.

I would not recommend this model, they are not reliable.

My house is about 10y and had the Kidde 1275's. Never had any issue with them, but it was that time to replace them as they are coming of age.

These used the same connectors, so all I did is change the mounting ring, since the others were discolored with age and plugged them in. No more than 5 min each. Had to change 8 of them out.

Kidde makes good products that are reliable!

I too had 8ea of the 1275's (approx. 8 years old), one of which nearly caught on fire! The inside circuit board is burned BLACK from overheating and popping a resistor. It actually got so hot it melted the white buzzer wire to the circuit board and discolored the top of the white housing! I emailed Kidde and got a stonewall of "that is supposed to happen (the crispy burned circuit board)", "its out of warranty", "it was a power spike", "its near the end of it useful life", etc. When I confronted them with the fact that if the unit had encountered a power spike, why are the rest of them okay and it didnt affect anything else in the house....at that point they simply stopped returning my emails. I am shopping for a different system to replace the Kidde CRAP, even if it means rewiring the house for a competitors system! I am turning the detector over to the Consumer Product Safety Commission for further evaluation. Buyer Beware!

I am writing this to say 1 thing about these....DON'T BUY THESE, DON'T LET YOUR CONTRACTOR INSTALL THESE, AND BE READY TO WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IF YOU GET THESE!!

I have had these in my house since 2007 when I was required by law due to an addition I was building to have hardwired smokes put in the house. The contractor followed the law and installed this unit!! They have been replace once already and same issue... if there is any and I mean any dust, a spider or a small power surge or the wind blows the wrong way these units go off. It is 2:17 am and once again they have gone off and waken up my whole family and scared my dog into her crate that she never goes in.

They have had batteries replaced every 6 months, they have been dusted, cleaned in ever way I know how and still they go off, and one when goes they all go. These as of now have been all pulled down batteries yanked and I will be replacing them in the morning myself with some other unit... which I have no idea.

Just because someone says hey look they are easy to install doesn't mean anything just wait these are a nightmare. - Kidde - Ionization - Smoke Alarms - Smoke Detector'

Utility Knife - knife, gerber

Clip broke on the first day after no use of knife, just from being clipped to pocket while knife was on inside. I don't think this is a manufacturing flaw, but a design flaw. The clip is thin and narrow while the folded knife is relatively wide. The wide knife causes stress on the fold in the clip under very casual use when the knife is carried as described.

Overall a good knife, a clever concept, and great value. I recommend saving clip for use as a money clip only or maybe while using for external carry if you don't expect to brush against anything. Yours will likely break if carried in a pocket while clipped.

I'm debating living without the clip, doing an RMA, or just asking for a replacement clip or 3 from the manufacturer.

UPDATE: Gerber sent me 2 replacement clips when I informed them about my issue. It was easy to install. Gerber 31-000345 E.A.B. Lite Pocket Knife, Fine Edge

This is a great EDC "knife". I bought this knife for routine tasks I didn't want to expose my "good" knife to.

For a knife this small, it feels quite good and sturdy in the hand, much better than your father's utility knife. It is much thinner than your standard utility knife (though no less sturdy). This is a big plus and allows you to carry it in your pocket. The Gerber construction is first rate with first rate materials (stainless steel). You can hear the mechanism solidly lock on opening. There is absolutely no play (either side to side or up and down) once the blade is extended.

A liner lock keeps the blade in place until you are ready to fold it back down again. There is a nice finger guard that covers about 1/3 of the utility blade preventing any accidents.

The clip in the back is actually welded onto the knife (not a separate piece that is screwed on). I suppose this means it might snap off some day, but I doubt it. The clip is nice, tight, and extends all the way to the edge of the knife. Even if it does snap off, the weld is on the inside portion of the body, hidden from view.

The knife takes standard sized utility blades. By carrying a small pack of blades, your knife never goes dull! You can use both sides of the blade before discarding it. Changing the blade will require a slotted screwdriver, but this means the blade is truly securely fastened (pins will loosen over time). I will probably use Lennox blades, but Irwin is fine as well.

You can't beat this knife and the price makes it even better! I'm happy I made this purchase.

I use this knife every day at work, cutting and shaving drywall, opening boxes, cutting rope ect. It holds the blade really securely and its easy enough to change the blade, even though its not a quick release setup. Folded it is barely bigger than the blade it holds but when you use it it feels great in your hand, with good control and grip. The one little problem i have with it is that if the blade you replace the standard Gerber one with is a tiny bit bigger (like the Stanleys I use) the tip will stick out just a hair past the end of the knife when its folded. its not enough to really cut you but sometimes it will catch on something and open in my pocket or clipped onto me. Just use gerber blades or try other ones to see if they fit, and it shouldn't be an issue. other than that I love it, and it is a great alternative to the Superknife because it is much more compact without compromising much utility.

I recently started to work in a signage studio and picked this up as something to use for quick cuts on site.

Fully extended with a blade installed, the knife is 13cm or 5" long. Folded, it's 7cm or a shade under 3". The build quality is fantastic and there is no wobble or give once it is clicks into place extended. The body is quite slim, about 7mm and fits snugly into that tiny extra pocket on the right side of you jeans on in a thick belt loop. The clip is quite firm and seems very well secured onto the blade (I can only assume that the reviewer with the broken clip was unlucky with QC)

The knife is aesthetically pleasing and affords a very comfortable grip. a fine purchase that I would recommend to anyone looking for a well engineered multi-purpose folding knife.

I tried to like this knife, I really did. When the belt clip broke I almost tossed it but Gerber's wonderful support sent me a half-dozen replacement clips and so far it hasn't broken again - and never will because I'm not carrying it anymore. Why, because it opens way too easy. I noticed that you could flip it open with one hand right after I got it and I thought that was kind of nifty at the time. The problem is that it opens up in your pocket even when it's clipped one. I was working in the garden and reached for the knife and it sliced a nice piece off my pinky. So, it will go in my toolbox or somewhere but it won't be carried ever again.

The bottom line is that if you're considering this knife, skip it and get the Gerber EAB. It's only slightly heavier, has a much stronger clip and doesn't open up in your pocket.

The overall look and feel of this knife is small and sleak for my big hands. I thought it had a quick release for changing blades but, it doesn't. I would have to carry a small screwdriver with me to change the blade. I was dissappointed with this knife overall.

With my job, I use a utility knife dozens of times every day. We were provided the big, old school Stanley knives, but they're way too big to keep in your pocket comfortably. I wanted something small, that folded and locked into place. After seeing some of my co-workers locking blades and how their locking mechanisms gummed up, I went with this blade.

The blade is simple to use. You open it, and the locking tab pops up, keeping the blade securely in place. At first I thought it might be a little flimsy, but it has held up to all the paces I've put it through. The blade locks firmly, and doesn't move at all. It's small, easily fits in your hand and pocket, and the the curve of the handle and the finger guard make it comfortable to use.

I have only two issues with this knife. First, the clip is flimsy. Mine broke within the first day of use. I thought it might be nice to use as a money clip, but with as much as I use this knife, that would be more of a hassle, so losing the clip wasn't too big of a deal. Still a little disappointing, though. Second, the blade is held in the knife using only a tiny little screw. I've come across some blades that are a fraction of an inch too big, and you're unable to get the screw into place. It's also quite easy to lose the screw (I've dropped it on numerous occasions replacimg the blade). Luckily, Gerber's customer service has been very helpful and replaced the screw. - Knife - Folding Knife - Gerber - Box Cutter'

Superwinch - blueproton, winches

I purchased this new Terra 45 Winch from Amazon for an unbeleivable $211.99 and it has far exceeded my expectations. I am using it as a utility winch on my car trailer to haul Jeeps and other vehicles. The motor sounds great, and the construction is much more rugged than the entry level Chinese winches (which this is replacing). It has plenty of power and the release mechanism is easy to operate.

I highly reccomend this winch!

Nice job superwinch! Superwinch 1145220 Terra 45 4500lb Winch with Cable

I bought this winch for my car and equipment trailer and find this product to exceed expectations in every way.

Top quality components with all wiring and instructions included. I mounted the winch inside my trailer mounted tool box

to keep it out of the weather and out of sight. I mounted the roller fair lead on the wall of the tool box facing the trailer deck

and use the UTV handlebar control switch to operate the winch when I am standing alongside the tool box. I lengthened the wired remote

control harness to reach behind my trailer so I can steer the vehicle I am loading .

I am very pleased with my choice and would by another or recomend one without reservation.

As soon as I recieved this by UPS I put it to work pulling

down a large ash tree. It had plenty of power to pull the tree

in the direction I wanted & to also pull the limbs from the

trees that it fell onto. It took a while to wire it as it is

designed mainly for mounting to a vehicle. But I built a box

out of a plastic tool box to hold all the wiring components

so now I can just take that, a 12 volt battery and the winch

anywhere it is needed in the woods. I did use the hitch mount

to do the job and that worked ok but I will build a custom

bracket to fasten to trees to keep the winch upright. I like

the ease that you can spool out the cable by turning the large

knob on the side. Everything is color coded with a diagram so

its not that big a deal to wire up.

I purchased this along with the Komodo portable winch mount from Amazon.com.

So far, I've used the winch on the mounting plate attached to the hitch receiver on my pick-up truck to pull up small trees. I don't know exactly how powerful the winch is but, attached to one larger tree, it pulled my GMC Canyon pick-up with the parking brakes applied without sounding strained.

Since I'm not using this on an ATV/UTV I had to do some modifications to the wiring. I attached the small red wires together that would normally go to the ignition and simply attached them to the positive pole of the battery along with the battery positive battery cable. I have a 700 amp car battery and a deep cycle marine battery that I use with the winch.

The Komodo portable winch mount required some modifications for the Terra 4500. It has eyes welded on for winches with a narrower fairlead than the 4500 has. I cut these completely off including the welds with a grinder and cut out a slot where the mount has a front lip so the fairlead could be mounted flush on the base. Unfortunately, I cut the slot in the centerline and couldn't use the cage on the mount. If the slot in the front lip is cut approximately 1/2 to 1 inch to the right of the centerline of the mounting plate (looking at the plate from the hitch side), the cage for the mount should fit.

To summarize, this is a powerful little winch, has met all my expectations and, along with the Komodo portable mount and some high amp batteries, is extremely versatile.

I am also using this winch at the front of a car hauler to pull disabled vehicles onto the trailer. It was either a Chinese 10K pound winch or this one. From the research I did, this will pull the same and last longer, so it was an easy choice. It is very well built compared to the Warn I had on my ATV, the motor sounds great the gears are pretty quiet and the kit comes very complete. The only thing I needed to purchase was a snatch block which effectively doubles the weight it can pull. More importantly I feel that taking the extra few minutes to use a snatch block will increase the life of the winch dramatically as it doesn't have to work as hard. Having the remote is very handy when loading a car and the handlebar switch works well mounted to the winch. I am using it with a 2" hitch winch mount and a custom receiver at the front of the trailer so I don't have to leave it out in the weather and also so I can use it on my truck and ATV's. A very versatile tool for all sorts of uses.

This winch is an outstanding product and of exteme good quality. Also the product

support from CT is outstanding. Strongly recommend if you are looking for a winch

for any purpose, this is the one to buy. Outstanding value for the dollar.

I purchased this winch after much debate and reading reviews like this. I pull 30 inch oak logs 9 feet long on to my trailer with this winch with no problems. It has great power and I like the quality in this winch. I would buy again.

Could never figure out which winch to buy. A friend who does a lot of towing recommended this one. I'm very happy with it, seems like a very high quality product, and the price was great. Came with everything needed for an easy installation. - Winches - Winch - Blueproton'

Mechanical Pencils

Seems I'm always wandering around looking for a pencil to use for my woodworking or hobbies. I finally bought this 24 count package, hid about 10 for myself and still have plenty to share with the family. Plenty of lead (3 full length in each pencil). These are inexpensive and have a consistent 0.5mm lead which I prefer for my uses. BIC Mechanical Pencil with Colorful Barrels, Fine Point (0.5 mm), 24 Pencils

My daughter went through a phase in school where she wanted mechanical pencils because that's what all the cool kids were doing. These were cheap, came with plenty of refills, and she liked the colors more than having plain ones.

I don't know why I like office supplies so much, but I'm obsessed.

These pencils are great, but if you've gotten used to using .7mm lead pencils, you may find yourself breaking the lead often.

Not that it matters- they're still pretty and perfect in every way!

There are 3 full pieces of lead in these pencils. They're not exactly gorgeous, but they're practical/function well. The lead is pretty strong and doesn't break all the time, which was the thing I loved most about these pencils. They've never jammed on me, the lead doesn't slide back up when it's too short, and they look decent. They're pretty nice for the price. They do, however, squeak. I don't really mind it, and it can be solved by breaking a piece of lead off with your fingernails, but it might annoy others. I'd definitely buy more, they do their job.

Good for school and people who care more about function than beauty. A warning to the male buyers though - there are some purplish-pink ones in the package.

If you are investigating these pencils, I suspect you are like the rest of us: you want a pencil that looks decent, performs well, and is inexpensive (because you tend to leave them around the house, in books, at the office, give them away, lose them, etc.). I've found these pencils fit the bill perfectly. I've been using them now for a few weeks, and they write well, erase well, look attractive, and the various colors on the barrel are fun. My one modest complaint is that the see-through plastic barrel can feel a bit insubstantial, slightly bendable. But I have big hands and a strong grip. I haven't broken one yet, though, and this is a very minor complaint. I love good mechanical pencils, and have used very expensive ones to branded disposable ones like these from office supply stores, and I much prefer these. I can use them, and lose them, with impunity. They are, to my mind, the best integration of value: performance, looks, and cost. If you know of any better, please let us know. Highly recommended.'
