Cultural Revolution - the graduate, 1960s women

I've always been irritated by the fact that all anyone ever remembers about The Graduate is the seduction of the protagonist by the archetypal Older Woman Mrs Robinson. While of course this is a pivotal aspect of the story, the book and film have so much more to say about alienation and obsession. I reread the novel recently and was particularly taken by its anti-consumerist stance, especially given it was published in 1963, before the ideas it presented became truly trendy.

These themes are picked up again in Home School, which stands alone as a well-conceived continuation of the lives of the characters first introduced in The Graduate 44 years ago. The book is set 11 years after the tumultuous events of that novel. Ben and Elaine are still together and now have two young boys whom they are teaching at home so that they don't have to go through the educational system that Ben is still chafing against.

Home School is a fine example of Webb's droll style and ability to record the minutia of life we cling to in stressful times; the arguments while making coffee or brushing teeth, the need to maintain the quotidian while our lives threaten to fall apart. The story takes some surprising turns and I had a strong sense that these characters mean as much to Webb now as to the young man who wrote the first novel so many years ago. Certainly there is a youthful vigour in the writing, and the book is at times laugh out loud funny.

This is not some pointless cash-in sequel, but a fine and mature novel that complements its predecessor but can be read without any knowledge of what went before.

And yes, Ben and the marvellously monstrous Mrs Robinson have a rather interesting trip down memory lane that brings the novel to a deeply satisfying conclusion. Home School

In Charles Webb's superb new book "Home School," a clever and thoroughly entertaining sequel to his classic novel "The Graduate," a lot has happened since Benjamin Braddock rescued the fair Elaine Robinson from the prospect of a loveless marriage and eloped with her to parts unknown 40+ years ago. And yet Webb's new story of the happy couple is as fresh and satirical as ever.

Set in 1974, in Westchester County, New York, where Ben and Elaine moved into her late father's house to elude the depraved Mrs. Robinson, "Home School" opens with a simple plot device that shows the main characters still struggling to maintain their idealism and integrity in a world of suburban conformity. Their first challenge is how to beat the local school authorities who are insisting that Ben and Elaine abandon their then-experimental approach to teaching their children, Jason and Matt, at home.

Faced with an implacable deadline to return the boys to standardized classes, Ben resorts to desperate measures and makes a late-night phone call to his nemesis, Mrs. Robinson, so that he can enlist her help in a plan to blackmail the school principal with a sex scandal. For her part, Mrs. Robinson - now calling herself "Nan" and long since denied contact with her grandsons - agrees. But from the beginning it's clear that she is scheming to use this as an opportunity to pursue her own mischievous goals by getting her own guest room where she can insinuate herself back into the Braddocks' lives.

To complicate matters further, Ben and Elaine are also subjected to a visit by some very eccentric friends who share their interest in home-schooling, although with decidedly different results for their messed-up offspring. In fact, Garth and Goya prove to be a couple of "professional hippy" slackers who are as annoying as they are smug. This creates even more household tension as Goya has an awkward habit of continuing to breast-feed her nine-year-old daughter, Nefertiti, and older son Aaron, to the evident discomfort of their hosts. Much to Elaine's dismay, however, Ben apparently feels that Garth and Goya are fellow free-thinkers on the subject of enlightened education, and he is initially reluctant to ask them to leave.

The rest of this slight but charming tale revolves around the drama inherent in restoring family harmony, standing up for one's beliefs, and trying to find some balance between the two. If the plot sounds superficial, it isn't, and the author's ear for dialogue has rarely been better. Webb does a particularly nice job of giving Elaine some of the best lines in the book, and showing how Ben's rather nefarious methods of making his case return to haunt him in the end. Throughout the story, there are fascinating narrative threads that explore everything from the modern obsession with consumerism and the importance of valuing authenticity over phoniness to the need for people to remain true to their own principles, regardless of the cost. And yet the writing is so brisk and filled with a sense of good humor that it does not come across as didactic or tedious. On the contrary, the events described are conveyed in a natural style that never feels contrived or mannered.

As Mrs. Robinson observes in the final pages, "Love turns some men's minds to mush," but "Home School" mines a rich vein of comedy in that essential truth. Indeed, Webb sets up a kind of poetic justice in his last, ironic plot twist, where Ben is faced with a horrible choice in which it appears he can only save his marriage by being unfaithful to his wife. The way he negotiates that test of his character leads to the novel's most satisfying conclusion, and one that readers are as apt to remember as they do the last scene of "The Graduate."

For more than a generation, cynics and romantics alike have wondered what became of Ben and Elaine after that bus sped them from the church where they so narrowly escaped the materialistic fate of their parents. Now we know the final chapters of their lives together turned out to be as rewarding as anyone could have hoped when their marriage began. Thank you, Mr. Webb, for a job well done. The promise that your most famous lovers once represented seems fulfilled, and their place in contemporary fiction assured. - 1960s Women - The Graduate - Mrs Robinson - Cultural Revolution'

Travel Handbag - sling bag, backpack purse

Well, maybe you are the type of person who buys a bag for every occasion and you don't need your bag to last very long, but I am not that wealthy. I wear a back pack purse everyday to work or play and I need it to last at least six months. This bag is wearing out. The fabric on the bottom corners is frayed and you can now see the white liner showing through. Also the zippers seldom stay closed at the bottom of the bag. The bottom of the zippers usually rip open on their own about an inch from the bottom. There is an inner lining that keeps things from falling out, but it is annoying. It is light weight which is great, but I am not happy that it is wearing out so quickly. Baggallini Urban Backpack,Navy,One Size

It's perfect! Lightweight, perfect size for everyday and will be great for travel. Two zippers on the outside and lots of slots on the inside for everything you carry in your purse. Also, the straps can be adjusted to wear as a shoulder bag or a backpack to SAVE your back!

I bought this bag to use on a five week trip to FL. I wanted a bag that looked good enough for any occasion but converted to a backpack when I was more active. This bag was great except when I warmed up and began perspiring, the dye from the zipper rubbed off on my clothing. I do like the security of the zippers and the magnetic clasp at the top. Be careful though...I laid my bag down to put on my jacket on a restaurant table where we had just ate dinner. I was very surprised when we got back to the room and I found a fork stuck to the front of my bag! The magnetic clasp is very strong!

I love this bag! Before I found it, I imagined what I needed to get me thru airports,

shopping trips, sightseeing, flower shows, etc. I struggled with not having enough arms and hands to

hold everything and still hold my granddaughter's hand. You get the picture.

THEN I found this Baggallini Urban Backpack and could't locate it to look at it. Nevermind,

I read all the other reviews and took a chance. The most useful reviews told me what people

were actually carrying in their's. So, here is what is in mine: a long wallet (I don't use the

little pockets for credit cards), a small cosmetic pouch, a small hair brush, a small tube of

hand cream, 2 pens, 2 lip gloss tubes, cell phone and keys.. I have added, when needed, my check books,

leather gloves, sunglasses. Yesterday, I made room to carry my small umbrella altho it

didn't zip totally closed at the top. Overall, its sturdy and lightweight (important since I have

shoulder-neck problems when I carry something heavy). I like the dual use back strap and have

used it both ways. I love the color, "Pewter" and would like to have it in Red. The zippers are sturdy and

smooth. I think when I travel to Paris, I will wear it across my front just to be safe from pickpockets.

A great bag! Perfect size without looking like I'm going mountain climbing (which I do).

If you are looking for a stylish, small, backpack style purse, this is a nice bag. I like the large opening created by the long zipper. It lets you access the interior very easily. Though the bag had style, I returned mine. I wanted a light weight bag and this is built quite substantially so it was heavy even when empty. Secondly, it had numerous credit card slots and other "organizer" features and pockets and loops. My experience is that these are a waste and a hinderance when trying to access the contents of a purse. I like to carry a very small wallet (with cash, credit card, medical information, and driver's license) that I can withdraw quickly. Fumbling around inside a bag for credit cards/cash is not efficient for everday use or when traveling. If the bag had been one lighweight layer with a lining and had just one zippered pocket, the design would have fit my needs. I own a small Baggalini purse that converts from a shoulder bag to a waist bag. It has been on many journeys and served me well. However, this too is overdone with too many pockets and slots. These additions actually limit the inside space because with an open area you can carry more and arrange things in a more effienct manner. Baggallini would be wise to redesign the interior of their bags.

Perfect! I switched from carrying a small leather organizer purse by Fossil which I've carried for years, to the Baggallini Urban Backpack to ease some shoulder discomfort. This is just the right size (about the same size as my small organizer purse) and light weight (compared to my small leather organizer purse): 10 slots for credit cards, 3 inner pockets (1 zipped, 2 not zipped) for cash, change, cell phone, 2 outer zipped pockets, magnetic closure, small handle at the top for carrying plus strap separates to carry it as a backpack. I'm giving it a 5-star rating although I think some small improvement could be made to the strap. The strap is not adjustable and separates by means of a zipper converting it into a backpack style. However, I am a small, short person and the bag is the right size and falls just at the right spot on my back so it's perfect for me.

I've had my Baggallini Urban Backpack for a few months now, and overall it's a stylish, practical bag, as mentioned by many reviewers. I have had a repeated issue, however: the lining in the zippered compartment in the back (there's one that faces front (as you can see in the photo), as well as one that faces back) has loosened, and it gets caught in the zipper. It's really a pain to try to get the lining unstuck, and I can't move the zipper up or down until I do so. I try to be really careful to make sure the lining is taut before I zip it, but about once a week it still gets stuck. Super-annoying. - Handbags - Backpack Purse - Cross-body - Sling Bag'

Badge Holder - key holder, badge holder

This is good choice if you are looking for a bunch of lanyards. They are very basic but get the job done. None of them were damaged and they came just at described. The only reason to get a different kind would be if you wanted breakaway lanyards for safety purposes. Advantus 75424 Neck Lanyard for Badges, J-Hook Style, 36", Black, 24 per box

These lanyards are perfect for what i needed them for (id badges). They are of high quality material with a high quality J-hook at the bottom. For the price you can't beat these things. the width is 1/2 inch for those wondering (i was looking for this when i wanted to purchase these).

Overall 5 star rating. great quality item!

I used these for my daughters birthday party invites as the VIP Backstage Passes for a rock star party. I wasn't expecting them to be the quality there are as they were pretty cheap. They are plenty long, even for adults and they are of great quality! I wish I could get these same ones in different colors for the same great deal too! I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

When I found these lanyards for such an inexpensive price on Amazon, I was skeptical, but I ordered them anyway. When they arrived, I was actually impressed with the quality. They definitely serve the purpose of holding up over several uses. The cord is pretty thick and all the metal fittings are strong and free-moving. I will certainly order this product again when I need more.

We purchased boxes and boxes of these lanyards to hold 350 or so badges for a conference. These fit the bill perfectly:

* High quality construction - no issues of fraying or bent clips or anything else that you sometimes see with low-cost lanyards. The metal clip means it won't break if stashed in a backpack; the swivelable hook means you don't have to worry about which way to you put on the lanyard.

* The perfect length - I'm 5'8" and the clip ends about an inch above my belly button. This will be variable for many people, but it seems that the manufacturer found a good length that will work for all but the shortest or tallest people.

* Thin cord - I prefer a thin cord, as thicker lanyards can fold in on themselves. The thinness also keeps it lightweight.

* The right price - you could definitely spend more.

The only drawback might be if you want a detachable lanyard. These are not detachable, so bear that in mind. But for the price, you get a high-quality, durable lanyard that could be reused many times over for multiple evens, or last over a number of years for a corporate keycard or similar.

These are good quality, braided nylon lanyards with hook clasp. They're soft to the touch (perfect for wearing around the neck) and appear to be quite durable. With free shipping from Amazon, they were among the cheapest I could find on the net. We're now using quite a lot of them for our volunteers at our church and we have no complaints. I just wish they offered them in different colors so we could use some variety for our different teams.

Love the lanyards, not just quantity but quality! I ordered on Wednesday night and had them friday. Just in time for my party! Thanks for the expeditious service and the outstanding product. Just the stimulus package I needed in this Great Depression oh I'm sorry Recession!

Just received these lanyards, and quickly sent them back. Beware of the length, which is the overall length of the cord and not the drape length! Including my neck, the drape length is only about 14"!

If this length is OK, the quality was excellent, and better than I expected. Forgetting about the length, this would be a very good deal. - Id Holder - Neck Strap - Key Holder - Badge Holder'

Car And Driver

C&D was once entertaining, witty, objective and a great read. The staff worked well together and they put out a consistently good magazine. Then it went through some rough years where it got kind of tame and boring. Now, it's an ill fitting mix of new and old writers trying to be fresh and hip while being spoon fed by the car manufactures. The magazine lacks consistency, focus and any sort of clear vision as to what they're about.

C&D mostly seems to print what the biggest manufactures want them to. There have been several articles lately, such as on the new Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR1, that literally mirror articles in other magazines even featuring some of the same quotes from the same car execs. You might as well go to the manufacture's websites and read their press releases.

There has been a lot of inconsistency in C&D's reviews. One car will be rave reviewed, and 4 issues later, will place near the bottom of a multi-car comparison test. The impression is very much whichever manufacture spends the most on ads, dinners, drinks, and other gratuities, gets top billing regardless of the quality and performance of their vehicles.

Some of the writing is entertaining, but that's offset by the same tired editors (Csere, Bedard, et al.) who largely keep writing the same stuff they've been whining about for a decade or three. The end result comes off as heavily biased, anything but objective, and an awkard mix of writing styles.

My suggestion: Save some trees and just skim the C&D website for their rare entertaining exclusive article and get the rest of your automotive news somewhere else. Car and Driver (1-year auto-renewal)

Unfortunately, when Csebra...Casasba....Csabsbreaedads, er, forget it, Editor CC took over the reigns, the quality of the mag dropped with it. Readers letters, specifically those with constructive criticism, are often met with sarcastic, child-like responses. There was many a time when I agreed with a reader's letter, only to read CC shoot it down. Where is this man's humility?

The pictures and layout are still good. Some of the covers promise what looks to be an in-depth article, only to find out inside that it's a one or two page affair. All the US car magazines are swamped with ads, keeping our copy price down, the latter of which is nice. But after 16 years of subscription, I chose not to renew in March. I've been looking at recently resurrected Road and Track, and they have really changed their publication from stodgy old-fart affair to a modern, informative read.

Car and Driver doesn't need a new layout. It needs better management.

What is it with all these bad reviews? I was 50/50 on whether to order a subscription to motor trend or car and driver. So I looked at some of the past magazines I had recently purchased (In the last 3 months as of 08/12/10) from motor trend and from car and driver. I went with car and driver, they are better. I read articles over the new 2011 Cobra Mustang in a Car and driver and in the motor trend and it was so much better in car and driver. In car and driver they talked over (I never knew) the cobra mustang isn't great because alot of the weight is in the front of the car because of the engine, and not to mention its rear axle, so on. Motor tend is a great magazine i love it but im only choosing one, if i could get both i would.

I'm a car guy. I like cars, but I'm not a car nerd, I don't understand all the technical terms a real car buff would use when talking about cars. This is why Car and Driver is perfect for me. It appeals to the enthusiast inside me yet presents their reviews and previews in a way that's easy to digest and understand. Not to mention it is a pleasure to read. This is a great way to stay up to date with the auto industry and I also find it educational. I've learned quite a few things about cars just from reading this magazine, but one of the biggest and best things I've learned is about making an informed decision on car buying.

Thanks to the reviews in this magazine, as well as a combination of Internet research I feel confident my next car purchase will be the best I can get with the available funds that I'll have. Not only that, but I can help others in their car buying decisions.

Speaking of car buying decisions, not all of us can afford to really buy what we want. Some people write letters in to the magazine, complaining that they talk too much about expensive cars that some of us will never be able to afford. You should ignore these letters. While you may no be able to afford some of the cars, the way the writers describe what it's like to drive them is excellent. They're really good at describing how it feels to get behind the wheel, and again, this just emphasizes what I said about making an informed decision, no matter what your budget.

Some of the cars reviewed are truly awesome but most truly unattainable. That said, I find the whole magazine partially attractive. It is not one of those publications that I enjoy from start to finish. I like the reviews on everyday vehicles, those that are affordable to most and look forward to see how the new releases are rated. Besides that a person would have to be a serious car buff to enjoy it thoroughly. For those reviews that pertain I give it 3 Stars.

Informative magazine. If you like automobiles, this is a pretty good magazine to have. It reviews several vehicles each month and has letters to the editor to comment on the nifty articles that the magazine incorporates.

Recommend to all who enjoy vehicles and want to know updated information on

automobiles and other types of vehicles, including pickup trucks, SUVs and

Hybrids.'

Compact Digital Camera Case - compact digital camera case, case logic

I did not buy this on Amazon but bought it at a local electronics store (which I may say cost more than from the site.)

I bought this for my recently purchased Kodak Zi8 and it is a PERFECT fit. Inside is the right size for the camera. The outside pocket is able to fit extra batteries and extra memory.

For the price this is a right fit if you getting one of the pocket camcorders. Case Logic TBC-312 Pocket Video Camcorder Case with Storage (Black)

Fits the Kodak PlaySport Pocket Video Camera perfectly! It is always hard to tell if the camera will fit in the recommended case, but this really is a great fit. There is extra room if you need to store extra batteries or memory cards. Great camera case!

This case fits the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black) snugly - it's a perfect fit, with just enough additional room to contain the wrist strap. This is what I was looking for since I wanted a case that took up as little room as possible while protecting the camera -- I can now put the camera in the case, throw the case in a bag, and not worry about scratches, etc. There is also a zipper pocket on the front that has just enough room to hold a flash card and battery. Again, the fit is snug but if you're looking to minimize case size while carrying the essentials with you, then this is perfect.

I purchased this case for my Kodak PlaySport digital camera, and it fits perfectly! It is well-padded, and ample room for the camera, with an extra zip pocket on the outside for an extra cable or memory cards. If you want to carry all the cables that go with this particular camera, however, you might want to get something larger.

I bought this for my FLIP Ultra HD and I am very happy with it. Perfect size, great quality and the price can't be beat. Some other users were concerned about protection due to not enough padding, but if you are not going to throw this against the ground with force it is enough to protect the Flip. I don't know about other devices as they may be heavier and get damaged upon being dropped. Buy it and you won't regret it.

Simple padded bag for small electronics. The Kodak playsport fits nicely inside, as does an iphone. There's a very small zippered pocket in front that will fit an extra memory card, spare batteries, etc. I like that it has both a carabiner and a belt loop.

Love the caselogic video camcorder case with storage. Just the right size to safely hold camcorder, but not large and bulky. Convenient for using strap to carry on wrist, but easy to access for use!! Love the quality of the material. Also have caselogic case for my fuji film camera!! Dark color great for not showing dirt or wear!! Very attractive quality item!! Would recommend.

This case is perfect for the Kodak Zi8 camcorder or other camcorders of similar size such as the playsport or flip. The camcorder fits nice and snug. The materials used feel like high quality materials. There is an external pocket just large enough for me to place 2 spare batteries and an extra SDHC card. Not really any room for lenses. Also doesnt give you a carrying strap but has a clip. Great overall product and for the price, you really cannot do better. - Camera Cases - Compact Digital Camera Case - Case Logic - Camera Pouch'

Horizon Fitness - exercise, exercise bikes

I have owned the Horizon RC 30 recumbent bike for about two months and I haven't had any problems with it so far. This stationary bike is almost identical to those you find in any gym, except that it doesn't have LED lights, but otherwise it performs in the same way. I am still trying to find the time to read the directions to operate the panel properly. I'm sure after I do that I'll find it very easy to fine-tune each workout session. For now I just more or less decide whether I want an easy workout or a more challenging one by just seeing what happens on the panel when I push certain keys. Customer service was very helpful by providing me with the phone number of a couple of companies in my area that could assemble this item for a fee. It would have been virtually impossible for me to do the job myself as this item comes completely disassembled and it can be quite overwhelming. Horizon Fitness RC-30 Recumbent Exercise Bike

I shopped for several months and tried out lots of bikes including Golds Gym's recumbent bikes.

I tried the R3 at Sam's Club and knew it was perfect! I am a big guy at 292 pounds and over 6' tall. I have had the bike for two months and with a low calorie diet have dropped 25 pounds so far!

I have had five right knee operations to date and my back was injured in a car accident two years ago which has greatly limited my exercise abililty. My doctor recommended a recumbent bike and I can ride this one for 45 minutes at 15 mph on the weight loss plus program.

Better than any of the more expensive bikes I tried at Gym X.

The bike was easy to assemble, took a little over an hour. It has been running without issue since it arrived. the only downside is that the screen does not light up when its on and it can be difficult to see in low light, so don't plan to be able to read the screen without overhead lights on. Over all this is a great bike.

So far, the Horizon Bike has performed well. It is quiet, the electronics are easy to use, and unlike many such bikes, it is easy to mount and dismount.

I generally don't like to assemble a product, but this was pretty easy to assemble.

We are pleased at the performance.

Most importantly, the bike easily adjusts to the smaller (10 years and up) and taller (over 6 foot) in our family and is an extremely comfortable ride. We like the recumbent more than we thought - padding on the seat and back with lumbar support and dual placement of handles makes it easier to ride for longer. The console provides many options of manual and preprogrammed rides with intensity levels I can't imagine ever hitting. Keeps track of time, distance, calories, heart rate on an easy to read display. The cup holder and matching water bottle were a bonus we didn't expect.

For delivery and assembly - it came quickly and my husband was able to carry down to basement and set up completely independently - took about an hour. All tools included. Came in lots of pieces but the instructions were very clear.

One disappointment - my fault though for not noticing - is that it doesn't have a plug in for mp3 player. Since we bought the horizon treadmill at the same time and it did, I incorrectly presumed that any current Horizon product would include it standard. Since the treadmill has it I do miss it.

I have been using this bike for the past 3 weeks. I have also previously owned a Schwinn 220, briefly. The bike takes on the order of 2 hours to put together. The tools provided are of high quality. A couple of the bolts had trouble going in. WD40 helped, somewhat. The instructions are easy to follow. The bike works as you would expect. It is quiet when in use. The seat is comfortable. The 8 resistance levels are more than adequate. I typically run it between 3 and 5. The included workout programs are just okay. The programming does not take into account your weight or age, the programs are hard-coded to a 30 minute workout time, and there is no cool down period. There are two custom programs available to help alleviate some of these issues. Still, I was a little disappointed with the lack of features on the console. I would recommend this bike to a friend. In comparison to the Schwinn, this bike has a better, smoother seat adjustment, they are equal as far as smoothness of operation of the wheel, and the Schwinn has a better, more customizable console. I feel the Horizon Fitness bike wins on build quality. I purchased two Shwinn bikes. I returned the first due to a broken electrical connecter and the second when the brake mechanism died after one day of use. I purchased the Horizon Fitness bike because it fit my needs, but also I did pay close attention to the warranty offered by bike manufacturers and I would recommend you do the same.

The bike is extremely well made - high quality- and is serialized so it can be registered. It was very easy to assemble, though the directions left 1 or 2 things out, it wasn't a problem. The action is not as smooth as I would like, but my husband is heavier and stronger and he says its OK- so it could just be me. The electronics are very nice and the choices of routines are very sufficient. The heart rate monitor is iffy - but that isn't a deal breaker for sure. I believe it was well worth the money and I will get great use out of it.

i just had knee replacement surgery almost 4 weeks ago. the recumbent was ordered just before i had my surgery. i was pleased to hear it was delivered before i returned home from the hospital. very happy with the product and the prompt shipment. i am already using the recumbent 2 - 3 times a day.

After trying bikes at several stores and reading reviews, I purchased the Horizon Fitness Recumbent Bike. The bike is sturdy and has several programs to use that are preset and very easy to figure out. One of the main reasons for me choosing this bike is that the seat adj is very easy and the whole family can use it, we range from 4'8-6'. My husband had no trouble putting it together, it took him less than an hour. Free shipping was AWESOME, ordered bike and had it on my front porch 5 days later, can't ask for better than that for free. - Exercise Bikes - Exercise - Recumbent Bike - Exercise Bike'

Sport Towel - yoga accessories, yoga towel

After purchasing the Aurorae yoga mat and rosin bag, I thought I'd try the yoga towel as well. It's terrific! It keeps my mat nice and dry during my work out and along with the rosin bag, my slipping problem is now non-existent. You guys are the best!! Can't wait to see what other products you come out with. Aurorae Yoga 100% Terry Cloth Cotton Sport Sweat Towel. Absorbs perspiration and helps stop slipping on your Yoga Mat.

A good Yoga towel is small enough provide padding or a clean spot without being thick enough to affect the practitioner's balance.

It should also be long enough to be rolled and wrapped around the neck if needed to cushion a neck being bent back.

It must also be absorbent.

The Yoga 100% Cotton Sweat Towel by Aurorae does all of this for me.

Once again, I am really pleased with Aurorae's products. I used this towel together with the Rosin Bag on my Aurorae mat. This is a really nice sized towel and soft enough to rest under my forehead. I use it folded up to help with some poses, as well. Use it with the Rosin Bag and you will not slip at all!

This towel is a nice looking towel that can be used to wipe off any sweat from your body or towel during your yoga practice or even while working out. I love the company so I thought I'd support them by getting the towel. Once again, a home run. Can't wait to see what they come out with next.

I tend to sweat before the class has even started. Imagine what it's like once I'm a few stretches in. This towel

is a life saver, both literally and mentally. Now I can easily mop the floor around my yoga mat from the amount

of sweat I get everywhere! Thanks Aurorae!

This towel is hands-down the best towel my skin has touched. It's plush, soft, luxurious, and does an excellent job of wiping sweat! I love it. In fact, I'd love to have several of these towels. I think if you have a family member of friend interested in their health, this would make a perfect gift (or part of a gift pack with Aurorae Yoga's other products) for a birthday, anniversary, or holiday.

I have used this towel for at least a ten yoga sessions. It is a quality item. I am not convinced that there is anything special about it. I prefer a cotton dust cloth to this item. If you are into 'cool' buy several because it is nice and the stitch work is great. If you can wipe your head with a hand towel or dust cloth, forget about and move on. - Yoga Towel - Yoga - Sport Towel - Yoga Accessories'

Cheap Kindle Books

Until I read this book I didn't really have a reason to punch a dolphin in the mouth. It had always been more of a random and uncontrolled sort of response when I was within reach of one. But after reading Matthew's book, I can now justify my behavior to the dolphinarium authorities in five different ways.

Seriously, Matthew Inman's sense of humor is way off center while always ringing true. You may not like every single strip (or "guide") but even if the captions don't do it for you, the drawings themselves will crack you up.

Caution: As I write this, Amazon says that customers who bought this book also bought Garfield books. That *has* to be an inside joke. "Look inside" or go to the author's site at theoatmeal.com before you buy this solely because you like Garfield.

Thank you Mr. TheOatmeal! 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth (And Other Useful Guides)

I remember seeing The Oatmeal's website last year and immediately fell in love with his artistic style, wit, and word-play. I have never read a comic book that has literally made me laugh out loud as effectively as Matthew Inman's creations. This book blends humour, education, vulgarity, violence, and comedy (with a little bit of oatmeal) and the end result is sheer comedic brilliance.

The artwork is fantastic and it never gets old looking back at these comics for a laugh. The book also includes a pull-out poster (that actually doesn't rip in half when you remove it) so you can decorate your wall with The Oatmeal's unique and hilarious display.

I cannot recommend this book enough to everybody. If you get offended by this, The Oatmeal wins. I hope Inman continues to express his creativity and sense of humour for a sophomoric title in another year. Keep it up Oatmeal, we are all reading and laughing along.

5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth (2011) is a collection of comics by Matthew Inman from his website, The Oatmeal. It features a large number of comics from the site plus 27 new ones.

Inman's comics, in both the art and captions, feature his offbeat and manic sense of humor. He is creative, vulgar, and frequently hilarious, and his work is usually better the more over the top it goes (if you don't like this book, "I hope a large meteor finds its way across the universe and smashes directly into your crotch while you sleep," Inman says in the introduction). It's not for everyone, though; the faint of heart, the squeamish, and the uptight may want to stick with Garfield. For me, Inman's one of the few comic authors whose work is still funny after multiple reads.

The book itself is pretty high quality, with thick, glossy pages. Not all the comics are in color, but most are. And they aren't all gems, but the entertainment level here is quite high. If there's a knock on this book, it's that some of the best Oatmeal comics aren't here. Where's the Gayroller?

The Oatmeal definitely isn't for everybody, but if you like Inman's work and style, 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth is a great collection.

Apparently if you are reading this you are on the fence about buying this book.

You are a failure.

Your mother doesn't love you.

Your father is very disappointed in you.

You will never make the game-winning 3 point shot.

You suck.

If you are going to buy this book, forget the aforementioned statements.

You will become more attractive.

Parents will ask their children, "why aren't you more like them?"

You will be riding on a rainbow cloud of awesome.

Choose wisely.

For 7 bucks I expected crappy quality printing perhaps just a folder stuffed with print outs off of the website along with a poster drawn by a small child sweatshop worker. Instead I got high quality paper with amazing color quality even on pages with several colors. Personally I find all of the comics much funnier in print than online and that's saying something! Anyhow I'm not all that eloquent just know that you should buy this book if you enjoy theoatmeal.com

This book is a nuclear funny bomb, and will be used to laughter torture Al Qaeda instead of water boarding. You have been warned, this book contains secret techniques for tracking, hunting and killing unicorns; arming your pets for war and other insidious hilarity. Read it at your discretion and buy insurance so you have money to repair your colon after the first few pages.

I avoid buying "real" books as much as possible, and cannot remember the last time I pre-ordered a book. But I've been a huge fan of The Oatmeal for quite a while and figured I'd give it a shot... for $7.72, there was no way I'd pass it up.

The book is awesome, and the unseen comics are fantastic. Only downside is that I can't just link them to my friends like I am used to. The colors and the pages are perfectly designed, will make a fantastic gift for under $10.

Inman's humor is real. Okay, sure there are some heavily exaggerated things here, but Inman's take on life and reality and transforming it into humor is very refreshing. I often find myself wondering if I'm the only one who notices the peculiarities of life, until I read Inman's comics and find there's a wide readership that feels the same.

This book is a collection of the first year of those comics. At $8, it's more than a bargain. The book quality is very nice, the pages are clean and colorful (and high quality page material, too), and I'd be more than happy to have paid $20 for this. Nevertheless, it isn't without faults.

First, Inman's comics are webcomics. They were made for and meant to be read on the computer screen. Because of this, there's an even flow that has no disruption when you're reading it, and extraneous jokes don't take away from the meat of the punch line. In book form, however, it's a little tricky: there are no page numbers and no Table of Contents. Because of this, it's a little hard to tell someone about a joke, and then have to flip through the book to find it, hoping your company won't lose interest. It's much easier on the computer because you have a clean setup with links.

I also noticed that some of the stuff gets a bit choppy in the book and some pictures are left out. Sure, it's not a big deal in the end; at first I didn't even notice some pictures were missing until I compared them to those on the website. I did find myself losing track of the joke because I wasn't sure which direction to go (up to down first or left to right), but because of my familiarity with The Oatmeal already, I was able to get along.

The included jokes are hysterical, and made me wonder why Inman never put them up on the site. Perhaps he didn't think they were good enough, or he made them exclusive for the book (we are, after all, paying for material that's already free), but I already have a favorite among them, and that's the types of pedestrian walks. The pull-out poster is the webcomic about why printers are from hell, and I thought that was very apropos.

Overall, despite my gripes, you should really get this book. Yeah, you can find some of them on the web, but if the 'Net should somehow fail, you have a copy that won't shut down, and the extra comics make it even more worthwhile.'

Blackberry Pearl Battery - battery, cell battery

I don't know why mobile phone batteries have to be such an issue. Retail OEM batteries are insanely expensive to the point where it's cheaper to buy a new phone. I understand that it's called planned obsolescence, but I hate it just the same.

I decided at 1/4 the retail price, and having it sold from Amazon LLC and not an associate re-seller, I might as well give it a try.**

The battery came in a very minimal wrapper. So minimal I almost didn't see it. It fell in between the flaps inside the box it was shipped in. When I opened the wrapper, the battery label looked fake. It felt different than my original battery and the graphics weren't as sharp. A similar kind of quality you might expect from street corner bootleggers.*** But it was the exact same size, so I put it in and charged it up for what seemed like a long time.

I'm pleased to say that on that first charge the phone lasted a full 24-hours with regular email/web use and 50% charge left over. However, a full day at work will be the real test.

One thing I should point out is that the original battery was beginning to bulge, which I read was an indication of it failing and in some cases, bursting out into flames. But the other thing was that it actually cased my phone to perform slower. It turned on slow; turned off slow; switched apps painfully slow to the point where I thought the phone was just trashed.

But now it would seem that it was the battery all along. With the new battery, the phone is as quick as I can ever remember it being. If you're looking for a replacement battery, this one may work for you. Just be careful who you're buying it from.

---

**Note: For most items, I don't mind resellers. The Amazon framework for creating your own online store is a good idea. But when it comes to batteries, which are too often unlabeled refurbs or cheap knockoff, you should expect the real deal from a trusted source.

Handheld Cordless Vacuum - handheld cordless vacuum, hand vac

I purchased the older model PHV 1800 a little over 3 years ago, back in May 2007. I liked it so much that I purchased another one for my in-laws a month later. For the last couple of months, the battery no longer retained a proper charge and since the battery is unfortunately not replaceable, it gave me an excuse to buy this newer model PHV 1810. As with the previous model, this is the best and most powerful handheld vacuum we've ever used in our household.

As I'm comparing the two units side-by-side, the new vacuum is a little smaller than the previous model and the dirt bin is bigger (it should hold more dirt). Since the battery on the old model is pretty much dead, I cannot give you an accurate power suction comparison between the two, but this one seems as powerful as when the previous model was new.

The nozzle has a wide range of motions, it pivots to use at many angles and has a cleaning brush built into it (you just need to flip it upwards) so you'll never lose it again. Dirt spins away from the filter so suction power stays strong. Cleaning the unit is very effective, you just click the side door open and unlike the older model, this one allows you to remove the canister and filter entirely and rinse them. The manual comes with instructions for removing and disposing of the nickel-cadmium battery, but nowhere does it say that replacements are available. One thing I liked on the previous model was when you needed to charge or use the unit; you simply put it in or remove it from a cradle; with this new model, you'll have to plug and unplug the power supply on the back of the unit anytime you need to use it.

If you want a powerful and portable vacuum, look no further. Black & Decker Pivot Vac 18V Cordless Pivoting Hand Vac, PHV1810

I have compared new Black and Decker 1800 and 1810 side by side. Less noise is the only thing the 1810 has over the 1800, but I don't consider that an advantage in a vacuum cleaner that I want to suck! The suction, the charging stand, the design of the 1800 is far superior to the 1810. In fact the 1810 has a MAJOR design flaw: Fold the nozzle back and everything you just vacuumed up falls out the nozzle!

This thing is a powerful hand vac!

I haven't figured out if the brush feature is any good yet.

I like the smaller attachment that slides out for small areas.

Emptying out the container is easy enough but sometimes I use my big vacuum to really get the junk out.

One thing to keep in mind is it is a bit heavy but I don't mind.

I have not had any problems with stuff coming out when folding it up.

I love having this thing around!

Let me first say I buy nearly 100 products from Amazon every year and have for 5 years and have never written a review on here because I don't have a lot of time and am very busy. But I felt compelled for this product. It's simply unbelievable. I had the earlier model but after 3 years the battery finally died so I saw this new version and decided to pick it up. Black & Decker missed the mark on 2 minor things, but everything else is a HUGE improvement. First, what they missed: I was disappointed to see there's no charging cradle anymore. Bring that back. Second, the vac is front heavy. They should have installed some lead weights in the rear so it doesn't have a tendency to drop forward. It's certainly a non-issue, but from a standpoint of perfectionism, it would have made the vac more comfortable to hold in your hand. Also, I think they should have made the battery cover a different color. It's almost like the color you'd see in a baby's room. I would have liked to see a more modern kind of color, but the rest of the vac is designed very nice.

But how does it perform? This thing will BLOW you away. It's incredible how powerful it is and I love the fact that you can remove the front assembly for easy rinsing in the sink (such as after you vacuum up a mound of saw dust as I did last night). I think this product rightly deserves the title of "The most powerful hand vac in the world."

Seriously, if you need a new hand vac or aren't satisfied with your current dust buster, pick this up now. I mean it. Seriously. I'll bet you a 6 pack that you'll LOVE this thing. I got mine here on Amazon for under 60 bucks and I think I paid $[...] for the last generation when I bought it and this thing BLOW THE PANTS off the last one.

Buy it now! Seriously. No, seriously, buy this NOW!

I purchased this hand vac a couple of weeks ago for use at our vacation home. It is intended to replace an old dustbuster, the battery of which was kaput. In our other home we have the previous model--the B&D PHV1800, which we like a lot--I would give it 5 stars.

The newer model is a disappointment for several reasons--

1. Cleaning the filter is much more complicated. One must remove the entire chute and canister in order to get at the filter.

2. As mentioned in another review, the chute is susceptible to having contents of the canister fall out once the vacuum is turned off. If one empties the canister after each use, this isn't too much of an issue. Ordinarily, after cleaning up a few crumbs or a bit of sand, we would not go to the trouble. This thing is for convenience, after all.

3. No way was provided to hang up the vac when not in use. Although the charging tray for the 1800 was cumbersome, it was better than having to put the device on the floor or a shelf for charging. We finally tied a loop of nylon cord around the handle in order to hang it on a hook in the closet.

4. But the final, fatal flaw: After the first charge, the battery could never be fully recharged. The device ran down within 20-30 seconds, even after an overnight charge. Our other one, after a couple of years use, still has full power for 2-3 minutes. So the one we were sent had a bad battery.

At first we found that the 1810 had good suction and from that standpoint performed in an equivalent manner to its predecessor. We developed workarounds for the spillage, storage, and cleaning issues. But when it finally was evident that we had a faulty battery, that was the last straw. We returned the device to Amazon for a refund. I must say that since the return was within the 30 day window, Amazon was amazing! No complaints there.

All this having been said, when we get back to our vacation place, we plan to order another one of these. If the battery works satisfactorily, giving us the same use as our 1800, I will re-review and give the item 3 or maybe even 4 stars. If you get one, be sure to use it a lot in the first 30 days. If it doesn't live up to your expectations, you can use Amazon's great return policy and get another device. - Black And Decker - Hand Vac - Handheld Cordless Vacuum - Cordless Vacuum'

Office Supplies - hanging folders, file box

It might be obvious to you, but (before ordering) it took me a few minutes to figure out what the difference is between this product and the "64059" variant.

This one (the 64056 one) comes with 5 each of gray, maroon, navy, purple and teal. The 64059 variant comes with 5 each of brighter blue, green, orange, red and yellow colors. So if you want more than 5 different colors, get a pack of each! :-) Smead Hanging Folder, Letter, 1/5 Cut Tab, Assorted Colors, 25 per Box (64056)

I bought these on Amazon because of the nice price and color options. I've looked in stores for hanging folders, and the selection is limited. These are very durable compared to other folders I have used.

The only con is that some of the labels are also tinted, so it might be hard to read.

On the product page it says this product is 13.3" wide, which is exactly as wide as my filing cabinet. It turns out that is the width of the box not the width of the tabs on the folders which is only 12.5" wide - so the product is useless to me. I'm not sure how I can be sure I am getting the right width folder if I cant trust the dimensions supplied.

As someone who likes to organize and color code everything these hanging folders are perfect! They are very durable, they dont rip or tear easily. The only complaint I have is that I was not give the right amount of plastic label holders.

These hanging folders have worked very well for me and I have not had any problem with them. Other brands are twice the price, but I don't see that they are so much different. I'm happy with these for home use. - File Box - Hanging Folders - Office Supplies'

Computer - dell, battery

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520. My old battery only held about 30 minutes of charge so I decided it was time to get a new one. I was wary about purchasing the battery from pyrus electronics since it was so cheap. Nonetheless, the battery arrived on time and it works perfectly fine. When the battery is fully charged, I get about five to seven hours of power (depending on screen brightness, active programs, etc.).

Also, my battery fit perfectly into the slot. There was no force necessary as stated in a previous review. (9-cell) Laptop Battery for Dell Inspiron 1520 1521 1720 1721 Vostro 1500 1700 Series Pn 312-0504 312-0513 312-0518 312-0520

I bought this product admittedly without reading carefully enough through the product description: I took myself to be buying an original Dell battery. When it arrived, it did not fit quite perfectly into my computer; it took an unhappy amount of force to get it situated. My computer (an Inspiron 1520) did indeed recognize the battery without any problem. However, it does not seem to power the computer for as long as my original Dell battery did, which would last for almost 6 hours when it was new. Perhaps this is because I have not yet "trained" the battery. But after the first charge and deplete and recharge, my battery meter now tells me that the freshly charged battery is good for about 4 and a half hours. That's not quite as good as I was hoping.

I bought this battery for my Dell Vostro 1500. Everything seemed to work fine the first 45 days or so. Then for no apparent reason this battery died. Just like that.

This battery comes with a one year warranty. So I contacted Amazon customer service. Of course, I am out of their 30 day period to send it back. They asked me to contact the manufacturer (NG). Amazon doesn't even know what NG is, and what the contact info is. They asked me to contact the seller (Westronics).

I called Westronics. Left them a voicemail. Haven't heard back from them yet. If there is any progress I'll update this review. But for now, this battery is a piece of junk and customer service is the worst.

Despite their claims, this battery does NOT fit correctly in an Inspiron 1720. It is just loose enough to lose contact when I transport my laptop in its case. When I try to awake the computer from hibernation, it ALWAYS reboots completely, telling me Windows did not shut down properly. I lose all my open windows, work-in-progress,etc -- all the advantages of hibernation. Not sure about other models, but AVOID this battery for an Inspiron 1720.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!!!! This battery charged 100% when first received and within 3 weeks was down to 33%! Now another week and it is at 30%, at this rate will be gone in the next month. $35.00 for two months is too expensive. It will not hold a charge and the company will not reply to emails. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

I have a 3 year old Inspiron 1520 and my battery life has been hovering around 1.5 hours. I wanted to get a replacement battery since my battery health was around 47%. This battery worked for 3 days and, when it reached 40% charge, it would plummet to 1%. This battery held even less charge than my old one. I have sent it back for a refund and I would not recommend getting this.

Also, it is worth mentioning that this battery does NOT has the same charge compared to Dell's OEM 9 Cell battery. This battery is 7200mAh, Dell's battery is 8500 mAh.

My old stock battery only held a charge for 20 minutes' worth of use, so I definitely needed a new one. When I saw this one, it was an easy choice. Being a 9-cell, it's important to remember that it will stick out a bit (roughly an inch) from the back of your laptop; I do not see this as a con.

My laptop (Vostro 1500) accepted it without the slightest difficulty, and sliding it into the battery slot was effortless. Even after the recommended breaking in process (which was presented in badly translated English), it does not last as long as I had hoped. I can get two to three (somewhere in the middle) hours of moderate use from a full charge, which is still a marked improvement. The computer's power gauge estimate of how long the battery lasts is not accurate, sadly. It believes the charge lasts longer than it really does, and the battery dies around the 10% mark (though when I plug it in and turn it back on, it properly reports the approximately 0% reading). There may be a way to fix this, but I don't know it.

All things considered, this is probably not the highest quality battery you can find, but it's more than worth it for the price.

Good battery. Fit perfectly. Not quite as good performance as my original dell 9-cell (now 4.5 hrs instead of original 5+), but at 1/5th of the price I am completely satisfied with this product. Please note that this is the 9-CELL battery and will stick out the back. Some people seem upset that this battery sticks out the back and their old one did not. The 6-cell does not stick out like the 9-cell. Please do not rate this product low because the battery sticks out. This is due to the design by DELL and not because of this specific battery.

I would definitely recommend this product.

I am very mad about this battery. I ordered it in June 2010 and now in October 2010 it is already pretty much useless. If my battery says half full my computer shuts off. This battery will most likely not last you. It's garbage. A product needs to last longer than 4 months!! You might want to consider buying the dell battery as they might back up their product for longer than 4 months. At this point it's like a disposal battery and I'll most likely have to purchase the more expensive dell battery anyway. Very unsatisfied with this product. - Battery - Laptop Batteries - Laptop Battery - Dell'

Winter Socks - winter socks

Black color is 'marled' meaning that it has tan threads throughout. I returned the socks based upon the 'off' black appearance.

Great socks functionally and I have ordered 2 sets of brown socks based upon their performance. adidas Sport Casuals CL II 3-Pack Crew Sock, Asst/Brown Marled/Brown, Shoe Size 6-12

Well, maybe that's a little over the top since they are just socks, but I love these things. I'm over 50 and have had my share of crummy socks, but finally I found these by accident at Academy Sports. I bought them just because they seemed the colors I wanted and wore so I brought them home and to my surprise...the best socks on the planet! I of course promptly bought several more pairs. I think you should at least try one or two pair and then tell me if you don't agree. They are soft and healthy, but not over bulky. If you like thin executive socks don't buy these. They are priced a little higher than other socks but that's the price of greatness. Bye bye Walmart crew socks...hello perfection. - Winter Socks'
