Economic Collapse - public policy, energy crisis

Absolutely first rate! I have been waiting for someone to take all the latest theories and images from space and put them together with the latest computer graphics and interviews with scientists and that is exactly what has been done here. Have you wondered what the formation of planets in the solar system looked like? It is shown here in all the spectacle of a Hollywood Sci-Fi movie. Same for other astronomical events (worlds colliding, stars exploding). The computerized movies of Jupiter's storms are stunning! I would watch a documentary on ANY subject that was put together this successfully.I fear some people may confuse this title with another space video narrated by Patrick Stewart called "The Planets." That is little more than a music video for Holst's work and is disappointing to anyone hoping for a space documentary. I was greatly saddened to learn of Carl Sagan's passing in late '96. I had always wished that he would do another series like Cosmos. This series is not Cosmos but it comes closer than anything I have seen since 1980. I only have two complaints. One is that there is very little bonus material on the DVDs. But given how stunning these documentaries look on my 15-year-old TV, this is not much of an issue for me. Secondly, the narrater could have been a bit more enthusiastic about the material. (Perhaps I am spoiled by Carl Sagan's enthusiastic Cosmos.) I see that this was a BBC production and that the US version uses a different narrator. I have to believe the BBC narrator is better and if I were buying these discs again, I'd buy the region 2 discs from Amazon.co.uk. Space documentaries this good only come once in a generation. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and purchase it! The Planets

I just want to point out to possible purchasers of this DVD some of the differences between the region 1 and 2 versions - it seems most people already know what a great tv series it was anyway.Having seen an episode or two of the series when it was on tv in the UK I bought this DVD - however I was disappointed by several aspects and sent it back, replacing it with the UK version. The episodes seem to be different from the UK version - much of the segments describing early space exploration involving russian scientists is cut. This leads to an imbalance (in my opinion!) as it seems from the region 1 DVD that the US did all the exploring - are subtitles un-American? The narration is also much less patronising on the UK edition. The region 2 set is dual layer, so 2 discs and not 4 and hence much cheaper too....The series itself is still worth the 5 stars though, but do get the region 2 set from the UK Amazon.co.uk

Welcome to the best documentary series ever. Yes, BETTER than Dinosaurs (which depended largely on sensational computer visuals)! Whether you have only a passing interest in astronomy or have read a hundred books about it, this series will steal your heart. Every single aspect is flawless. The musical grandeur of Gustav Holst's symphony and the warm, captivating voice of the British narrator make up the aurals. No artificial excitement, no badly chosen music, PERFECT. The visuals include stylish computer animations and footage that makes you wonder how deep they actually had to dig... The first footage of a human being outside the atmosphere (jumping out of a balloon), the first on-board rocket footage, the earth as a blue dot captured by an ageing Voyager looking back at its birthplace. The content isn't exactly dumbed down, either. Even for an amateur like me, there were plenty of new things to discover. It contains many interviews with astronauts, Russian and American space-project leaders, the finest available planetary geologists, exo-biologists and trendsetting astronomers. Providing not only information, but also a true sense of passion and childlike wonder. Hear how an American airforce officer tries to describe his silent jump through the outher layers of our atmosphere, falling back into "known territory". How Gene Cernan had the almost transcendental experience of covering all of human history (earth) with his thumb. How a NASA scientist was the first to see the other side of Saturn via a Voyager picture... If this series doesn't get you excited, you must be dead.

I enjoyed this series admittedly, and will watch it many times in the future, as I am a junkie for all things related to the science of astronomy. I would have given it 3 1/2 stars if it was possible.

It is however not the most informative, nor the most comprehensive such attempt on the subject. The Narrator used for the American addition (Karen Stone) is wholly innapropriate and to my ear, a distraction to the show's content. She seems to be reading everything for the first time and with no true concept of what it is she is saying. I get the feeling the British version would carry a far more intellectual tone and this I regret being shorted.

There is nowhere near the scientific information relayed as compared to a show the caliber of Cosmos for instance, or even in any given Nova installment. There are definately holes in the story. Also, there is a pattern of content repetition between the episodes to the point that my wife on several occassions didn't believe that we had not already seen the epidode currently being watched, despite my insistence that we had not.

So, what is good about this series? It is, notwithstanding what I have said thus far, both beautiful to look at and enchanting to sit through. I consider this series (which I own on DVD) a fine edition to my collection. It simply fills the niche of mental candy as opposed to the niche of a full meal. This is amplified by the fact that there is no sequence required, rather you just pop in any episode and it stands on its own as a visual snack.

It is certainly light years ahead of the garbage most Americans are able to call entertainment, it is however done with an eye to the modern taste for flash and sound bite sized doses of information. This is a bowl of easy to eat mental candy for the thinking person not wanting to think TOO deeply. I recommend it (Though you might wish to check for the British edition). - Peak Oil - Public Policy - Economic Collapse - Energy Crisis'

Bravia - 32 inch, bravia

I recently purchased the Sony Bravia EX720 from a local electronics store (and not Amazon, since I prefer to make large electronic purchases locally in the event I need to quickly return and exchange a defective item). Overall, the TV is good, but not great. Here is a quick down and dirty list of "in my opinion (IMO)" pros and cons:

Pros:

- High quality LED side-lit LCD screen

- True 1080P 3D and Hi-definition capable, but with some limitations

- Colors and contrast are vibrant, once you take the time to manually adjust the picture settings

- Built-in 3D transmitter; no need to buy the external transmitter which saves you about $35

- 3D effects are very good overall, but best results can only be attained by watching 3D Blu Ray movies

- Artifical 3D option in the 3D options works decently and provides an alternative to playing PC games in 3D without having to use the NVidia 3D Vision or 3DTV Play drivers; this allows you to maintain up to 60fps frame rates without have to revert to a 24hz (24fps) refresh rate

- No 3D ghosting evident, but you may need to make manual adjustments to the depth effect - I needed to do this

- 4 x HDMI 1.4 ports

- Internet capable right out of the box

- Swivel and 6 degree backward tilt adjustable

- Directly compatible with the Sony PS3 (shouldn't be a surprise since it is a Sony TV)

- TV firmware can be updated, but does require internet connectivity

- Weight of TV is 25lbs - very light and easy to move or mount on wall without worry of mounting screws tearing out of the studs in the wall!

- Shortcut keys on the Remote are very convenient and will save you time from having to dig down into the sub-menus everytime just to make adjustments to certain functions

Cons:

- NOT a 240hz 3D TV; Sony.com website lists the specifications for this model as "120hz" refresh rate (AMAZON NEEDS TO FIX THE LISTED DESCRIPTION FOR THIS TV NOW!)

- Had to contact Sony customer support directly to verify which Sony 3D glasses model is compatible with the KDL-32EX720; their website did not provide this information; confirmed with the tech rep that the TDGBR100/B version is compatible with the KDL-32EX720; important to note the "B" Think of it as the "B" represents "Bravia" :)

- 3D viewing @ 1080P limited to only 24hz and 30hz?? 24hz = 24fps & 30hz = 30fps That's not a problem for watching 3D Blu Ray movies (or watching converted 2D movies into 3D), but is not acceptable if you want to play computer games on this TV; part of the reason why I bought it

- Takes a few hours to manually adjust the picture just the way you want it; you will need to go into the "Advanced Settings" to change things like White Balance, Black Level correction, Edge enhancement, etc.

- Priced a bit high for not having 3D glasses included or a 240hz refresh rate; WARNING! The glasses cost $150 separately O.o

- Power cord is hard-wired into the TV; would have preferred a universal power cord solution so that it could be replaced easily should it get damaged

- Remote control is a bit clunky and large and does not provide universal remote functionality as it only allows for control of the TV; unlike other remotes that allow you to conrol several devices - a universal remote function would have been nice for me because I could have used the remote to control both the TV and my Sony PS3; not sure why Sony would not allow for this other than to make more money from their customers...no way! lol

BOTTOMLINE:

Depending on your intentions of what the primary use of this TV is/are will ultimately determine your final decision to buy it or not. If you plan to watch regular and 3D Blu Ray movies and like the convenience of the integrated internet functionality, then this TV is a good choice, albeit a bit expensive when considering you have to pay $150 more for the 3D glasses. The picture quality when watching Blu Ray movies is excellent and there are lots of options to configure the picture appearance according to your specific tastes/preferences. Think of it as adjusting the driver's seat on a brand new car that you are thinking of buying. You really don't know exactly the right settings until you have had it for a while, but when you do figure it out, the ride was well worth the wait.

I would NOT recommend you buy this TV if you plan to do serious 3D computer gaming on it. I highly recommend you wait for the new 27" and larger "true" 120hz 3D monitors coming out later this year. Because of the limitations of the frame rates when using 3D mode on this TV, I've decided to keep my Alienware OptX AW2310 3D computer monitor so that I can get the best 3D experience while PC gaming.

To those who are a bit more serious about there hardware and do not want to compromise, I would highly recommend you wait to buy the 240hz or 480hz version of this TV (not yet released) and maybe even wait for HDMI 1.5 which is rumored to support 3D (stereo) 1080P @ 60hz :)

Overall, the Sony Bravia KDL-32EX720 is a very good, but not great 3D TV that seems to be the "Jack of All", but the "Master of None". Sony BRAVIA KDL32EX720 32-Inch 1080p 3D LED HDTV, Black

I was looking for a 32 inch TV to fit in a cabinet I had made for the living room. Most TVs in this size are pretty basic and was looking for something a little more high tech. This model of Sony fit the bill perfectly. The styling of the TV is really nice with a glossy black bezel all around and without the funny grey band on the bottom of the lesser 32s Sony sells. The screen is more of a matte look and is great in eliminating glare from nearby windows. I purchased the set primarily for the Internet streaming and so far this works great. I was disappointed that I had to buy the wifi adapter for wireless streaming but it works really well. If your lucky to have your internet close to the TV you can plug the ethernet cord directly to the TV. I have kind of a lousy internet provider but it didn't seem to effect the streaming to the TV. The TV found my home network quickly and connected easily. There was a software update and it did this quickly also. There are a number of internet sites that come up on the menu including Netfix, Hulu, You Tube ,Crackle, Amazon instant movies, Qriosity (Sony library) etc. Qriosity has hundreds of movies available including 3D movies. They are not free however and charge anywhere from $3-$6 depending on if you want Standard Def, High Def or 3D. You can watch the previews for free, however, which I did for several hours. The need for a blue ray player is questionable as there is so much content available through these internet sites. The remote has no keyboard so a lot of scrolling around for is required for doing searches on You Tube, kind of a pain. I have not tried the 3D feature yet so cannot comment on this. The picture is beautiful out of the box and required very little adjustment by me to make it perfect. The speakers, like most LED TVs are really bad and a sound bar or external speakers are a must. The TV satisfied most of the requirements I had and at a price that was quite reasonable. - 120hz - Sony - 32 Inch - Bravia'

Excellent Value

There is so much about this book that will make you stop and just sit in amazement. God's greatest commandment was love, and here Jerry Corbaley not only defines that commandment in simple terms, but he helps guide you, through the Bible, on how to carry out that commandment. At the very beginning of the book, I realized I was an 'annoying nobody who gains nothing' but I am learning just how important God's commandment is, and how I can carry that out. This book is insightful, but even more, it is true. God blessed this work, and I highly recommend you take the time to experience this for yourself. Most Excellent Way

You cannot just breeze through this book; Dr. Corbaley 's insight into what our Lord values most is easily practical in application, intensely honest in delivery, and must be chewed & digested one morsel at a time.

Practicing what he preaches, Dr. Corbaley speaks the truth in love, leading the reader gently into realizing the benefits of loving others as God loves them.

We have a problem, you see: there are too many definitions of "love."

What is God's definition & how do we "do it?"

Dr. Corbaley will show, with love & wit & integrity, how that kind of love looks in many and varied circumstances.

And you won't have to take his word for it; clear Scripture references show the "plain sense" of the Bible to be as "living and active as any two-edged sword."

This book has less fluff and more meat than most of the Christian books I've read, and is similar in practicality to much of C. S. Lewis' stuff.

Are you tired of wondering "if it's all really true?"

Are you tired of wondering if "this is all there is?"

Are you tired of trying so hard, only to fail again?

This book costs so little for so much "oomph" that you can't go wrong.

Buy it.

Read it, slowly.

Mark it up with highlighter & scribbled notes.

Let it sink in, & read it again.

I am on my second time through, and I look forward to many more adventures in "The Most Excellent Way."'

Individually Wrapped - individually wrapped, wet wipes

I can no longer find these in the grocery store and am forced to buy them on line. They are just fabulous to keep in the car and I am never out of them. Wish I had invented them. They stay much more moist than the other dispensing pack the manufacturer is now forcing upon us. Wet Ones Antibacterial Hand Wipes - Fresh Scent: 24 Count Singles

I loved this towelettes. For years I've been trying to figure out what to keep in the glove compartment without having them dry out and avoid the bulky can. This proved to be the perfect solution. I put them in a zip log bag and voila!

Having tried wipes like these before from local fast food restaurants, I bought a box of these from my local Wal-Mart store on a hunch hoping they might come in handy at the office, car, and beach.

These 'Wet Ones', individually wrapped wipes, are truly great! They really clean hands well from residue. I have found them most useful in cleaning hands after eating lunch at my desk.

I keep a few in my office desk drawer, kitchen drawer, and overnight bag.

I highly recommend this product!

The cloth is strong. The cleaning solutions fragrance is subtle and nice and evaporates easily after use. It is moist but not dripping wet. The size is adequate for one time use. Pouch is easy to open and retrieve product.

Much better than a common napkin for sure!!! - Individually Wrapped - Moist Wipes - Wet Wipes'

Logitech Mouse - logitech, laptop mouse

I actually bought this elsewhere, got a nice price on it. I would never consider a long-receiver USB-type wireless mouse for a laptop. I can just see them getting hooked and broken over and over, so it was important to have a tiny receiver like this. I admit I've not tested the range. I have not tested the battery life (only a few days old). However, this thing's receiver is awesome; I know it will not break due to its small stature.

The mouse itself was found fine on Windows Start 7 and also XP Home edition on two computers. It's a bit more sensitive than my older USB plug in mouse so I pulled down the pointer speed in control panel.

I generally dislike mouses/mice (?) of this shape as it is stub-nosed and quite tall. That is my main complaint about it but I knew that going in so I cannot ding it a star and it is otherwise a large enough mouse not to frustrate my hands--it is not a tiny, pitiful "laptop"-sized mouse.

It has a button on the bottom to turn it off. If left on the red tracking light underneath is constantly shining, but I intend never to turn it off as I think that light pulls very little power (I hope) and it ensures quick wake ups. Wakeup time is about a second if the mouse has been left for a while--this won't bother you. Responsively it seems fine. I've not tried it with gaming. I hear that USB-based wireless mouses are a touch faster than bluetooth, for what it's worth.

It takes a single AA battery (comes with a duracell), which means replacements should be most readily available and an AA vs AAA or 2XAAA ensures decent battery life without spending any kind of real money on battery replacements. I imagine it would work with a rechargeable nimh but I have not tried it.

As I will use this mouse every day, if I do not come in to update this review in the future you can rest assured that I either got run over by a truck or the mouse continues to work as stated.

EDIT: Feb 9/10. The battery died on this a couple of days go, so with pretty regular use (3-4 hours/day) and never turning the thing off it got about 6 weeks, which I think is certainly acceptable. Logitech Wireless Mouse M305 (Black)

I have only had this 1 hr., but it's great so far. I have tested it on three different computers (3 yr. old Dell Insipron w/ Vista, 2 yr. old Dell Inspiron w/ Vista and new Acer netbook w/ XP. Just plug and play with all three. Gotta love the tiny USB receiver (can't break off). The size is on the smallish side but seems fine for me and the wife. It works on our shiney wood desk and jeans; haven't tested anything else. It worked from about 4 ft. with the receiver on the the far side of the computer. (If I am any further than that I can't see the screen anyway; heck who am I kidding, I couldn't see the screen from there.)

I looked at the Microsoft 4000 which is a little bigger and feels a little nicer to me, but I got the M305 because I'm cheap and it was on sale for $10 less.

Update 3/1/10: Still works great. We took a three week trip with the laptop and it was really convenient to just leave the receiver in place when packing up the laptop.

I own three of the Logitech M305 wireless mouse...One in each laptop...I just leave the very tiny USB transmitter in the USB port of the laptop..It is so small, it will not move around in the port like the longer transmitters..This mouse has an easy off an on switch...They are available with cool graphics too...They are compatible with XP Vista and 7 and you can use them on jeans, a blanket, or really any surface with NO sluggish drag...I love this product***** UPDATE....I JUST BOUGHT THE NEWEST MACBOOK PRO...THEY WANTED $100 DOLLARS FOR THEIR MOUSE...I PLUGGED THIS BAD BOY IN AND IT WORKS JUST FINE FOR $15.00

Pros:

1. Easy set up. Turn on machine, Insert battery (included), plug in receiver, turn on and go.

2. Comes with one AA battery, tiny USB receiver and instructions in English.

3. Slider on the bottom opens front casing to insert battery, similar to the V220, except that the battery direction is much more clearly marked.

4. Easy on/off slider also on bottom.

5. Handy storage space for receiver inside battery compartment.

6. Small and portable

7. Wicked cool pattern, matching wireless K250 keyboard.

8. Indicator light for low battery situations.

Cons:

1. May be a bit small for large hands

2. Pretty basic in functions (but has everything most people will ever need)

3. Receiver is NOT a unifying receiver.

4. Battery cover a little tricky to remove without practice.

Summary:

A compact, basic, portable, easy to set-up wireless mouse ideal for laptops. Combines the size and design of the V220 mouse and the USB storage compartment of the VX Nano Laser mouse.

Addendum:

This is billed as being paired with the Wireless Keyboard K250, so I'm reviewing them as a matched twosome.

Pros:

1. They make a handsome couple

Cons:

1. They don't get along and are headed for divorce court, because they don't have a unifying receiver in common.

Notes:

After driving myself crazy for a few minutes, and downloading unnecessary software, I discovered that the M305 mouse does not have what it takes to work with the unifying receiver, and therefore you'll need to plug in BOTH receivers to make the mouse and keyboard work.

Apparently you'll need the M705, Performance Mouse MX or Anywhere Mouse MX if you prefer having only one receiver for both mouse and keyboard.

Amanda Richards, July 17, 2010

I have been using Logitech products for quite a number of years now and have yet to be in the least dissatisfied with any item. This mouse, the Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse is no different. It does precisely the job I paid for it.

This is a workhorse. There is nothing particular fancy about it; it simply works the way it is suppose to work, and works well.

The design fits my hand perfectly and is quite comfortable. The plug-in nano-receiver is quite small. I use this particular mouse on my lap top; the one I travel with and do my work on the job with. The nano-receiver is plugged into the SBU port (I am currently using a Dell Inspiration which is several years old) and that is where it stays. I need not worry about removing it constantly. As the receiver is quite small, there is little to no chance of it being broken or accidently chipped off despite the fact that my lap top takes quite a beating.

This mouse uses a single AA Battery. I have been using this since last December 2009 pretty constantly and have had only one need for a battery change. I always carry a couple of extra AA Batteries with me as I despise using the computers touch pad for the type of work I do.

The scroll function works quite well but if you are looking for the superfast scroll feature you need to look at another model. I personally don't need or want that particular feature. I have tried using this mouse on just about every surface you can imagine from desk top, to my leg, to the floor and everything between. It always works and works smoothly

Please do take note. This is not a high tech mouse of the sort a serious gamer would be happy with. I handle the ones my grandsons have on their computers and they are in a world of their own with adjustable weight, high speed this and that's and to be quite frank, I am sort of afraid to touch the things for fear of having my hand either being evaporated or transported into another dimension. No, this is a work horse of a mouse with limited features; which is precisely what I needed and wanted.

Set up was absolutely nothing. No programs were needed, not down loads were needed. You just plug in the little bitty chip thing and you are ready to go.

The price here is quite easy on the pocket, something I loved about it, and you actually get quite a bit for your money, something which is becoming quite rare now days.

I have absolutely nothing to complain about in reference to this product.

Bathroom Scrubber - bathroom scrubber, scrubber

I have used the Black & Decker Scum buster for years. I like these little power scrubbers better because:

1. It's smaller and more portable than the Scum buster.

2. It performs the same as the Scum buster, so if I can get the same cleaning power in a small handheld device, I will pick that anytime.

3. The Scum buster uses those proprietary Ni-Cad cylindrical batteries. Those are a specialized battery that you have to buy at Sears or the hardware store and they are expensive.

This power scrubber uses four AA batteries. We all have those around the house. Moreover, I use Sanyo eneloop rechargeable batteries which means I am never out of power.

4. What I really like is that this power scrubber is small, light and easy to use. You don't get tired using it. The huge Scum Buster eventually gets tiresome to use and it's awkward to handle.

5. B & D designed the Power Scrubber to spin fast and powerful enough to really scrub things, like pots and pans, tile, etc. But it does not spin so fast to where it would shoot water, cleanser, or whatever all over the place. It's speed is perfect for keeping the cleaning material in the pad and on the surface you are scrubbing.

6. This is perfect for its intended uses, scrubbing the sink, things in the sink and the shower/tub. I even used it on my tires!

7. Bonus Tip: I find it works quite well when applying medium pressure to the scrubber. It's powerful enough that when applying pressure it does not stall, it simply scrubs harder, which is what I want in a device like this.

8. And I like that it can stay submerged up to ten minutes (per the owner's manual). That means you can leave it in the sink with the water running without worrying about it shorting out.

Bonus Tip: In fact, the owner's manual says that if water does get into the battery compartment you only have to stop using it and let it dry out over night. How cool is that, not having to worry about water damaging the unit.

All in all a great device. It has saved me a lot of work in the kitchen. Black & Decker PKS160 Power Scrubber

I LOVE THIS ITEM....IT REALLY MAKES CLEAN UP'S A SNAP. I PURCHASED ADDITIONAL BRUSHES, PADS ETC., SO I CAN CLEAN BATHROOMS AS WELL AS THE KITCHEN BY JUST SWITCHING THE BRUSHES OR PADS. I JUST LEAVE THE ATTACHMENTS IN EACH ROOM.

I bought this for my wife to assist in cleaning the sinks, etc. It enables her to do it more efficiently because she does not have the strength in her hands, wrist, and arm to facilitate the job. She likes it and it saves a lot of time in cleaning.

I do admit to having fantasies about a motorized scrubber that would magically blast away all the hard water stains in my bathroom and kitchen. The Black & Decker Power Scrubber did not fulfill these. It did, however, make cleaning much easier after I had surgery on my shoulder.

The scrubber will do roughly about as good of a job as regular elbow grease. In some cases it has been very handy for getting corners or areas that are difficult to scrub. In other cases, I find I need to just use a scrubby sponge and do it myself.

This product would be awesome for someone with arthritis or who is physically inhibited. As mentioned, is also good for places that may be uncomfortable to get at, like the bathtub floor.

The scrubbing pad fits onto the device with velcro. I was a little suspicious that it would not hold, but it hasn't come off yet. The batteries are holding up pretty well. I am still on my first set. The rotation is not super fast but good. It doesn't slow down too much when putting pressure on it.

Black and Decker is such a good company, but I was not pleased with the power scrubber. Not powerful and not a good scrubber. And the pads wear out very quickly and are very expensive to replace. A motorized toothbrush works better.

I have had this scrubber for a long time and love it! I was surprised so many reviewers felt the power was inadequate because mine has been great, and I can be very particular about design. So, I wonder if the tool has been changed, since it was originally produced.

Mine cleans some areas better than I can, AND when it comes to a really disgusting area, I feel so much better having my hand farther away, so this area actually gets cleaned better and more often (like the part of a sink that goes down to the garbage disposal - yuck!). This may not be relevant to many, but for those of us w/ a weak stomach, it is a Godsend!

As I have aged, this scrubber allows me to clean quickly and efficiently, when I would otherwise, have been too achy.

Because this tool has a variety of attachments available, I get more "cleaning mileage" w/ fewer individual tools.

This scrubber is so helpful that I have one for every sink in the house, and an additional one for odd cleaning jobs, elsewhere!

The Black & Decker Power Scrubber is a fairly good value in that it does what is expected at a reasonable price. It enables those who need or want to save some "elbow grease" in scrubbing pans etc. We have a glass top stove that constantly needs to be cleaned with a special product that removes grease and other cooking splatters and leaves the surface with a shine. The Power Scrubber with one of the scrubbing attachments works extremely well on this type of job. Scrubbing pots and pans is much easier with the Power Scrubber than hand cleaning. Batteries last a reasonable amount of time unless you press upon the Scrubber with a high degree of force over a long period of time. If you hear the motor laboring, it means that you are using battery power at a level that will result in sooner replacement.

Conversely, I find it almost comical that our society has produced, and is using, such a labor saving device when all it takes is some muscular movement to accomplish the same result. There are some people who would benefit much more from this device because of arthritis or other ailment or injury. In this case the Power Scrubber is almost necessary. Fortunately my wife and I, though advancing in years, do not have such a need yet. We just use the device to make cleaning pots and pans easier and less mundane. - Scrubber - Cleaning Tools - Cleaning - Bathroom Scrubber'

Graphics - computer accessories, drawing

So i recently purchased a Genius tablet which i just returned and decided to purchase a Bamboo tablet instead. Now my goals for using a tablet are simple:

- Learn to use a tablet for graphic design\illustration

- Buy something that won't break after 2 weeks

- Buy something that can grow with me for a couple years

This tablet by far exceeds these very simple expectations and then some. I don't care about writing in documents, nor do i care about signatures etc... I care about using a tablet for one reason, drawing. From that point of view here's a list of pros\cons as they've applied to me:

Bamboo Pros:

- Small foot print absolutely ideal for on the go work or small spaces

- Very sturdy feeling! Genius tablet felt a little flimsy on my lap, this feels rock solid.

- Function keys up top are quite helpful

- Scroll wheel up top is awesome for zooming in\out great feature to have on the fly

- Pen holder is helpful so the stylus doesn't get dirty\lost\damaged

- Stylus is comfortable to hold and has a slightly "rubber" feel on the outside easy to keep a good grip

- Stylus comes w/ 2 buttons on the side that have assignable functionality

- Eraser on the top allows you to flip over & erase as you would a pencil

- Nib (tip of stylus that touches tablet) is replacable if need be (good since i've heard they can wear down over long periods of time)

- Stylus itself is battery FREE, AND, wireless, doesn't get much better then that

- Software is amazingly easy to install. Plugged in tablet, threw in CD, installed device drivers, didn't even have to reboot to use it. (A+ for Wacom having the easiest to install USB device i've ever owned)

- Easy to understand configuration software makes it very simple to customize the special function settings and stylus buttons.

- Movement is VERY smooth and fluid, i don't see any jitters at all while moving or drawing (and that's going through a USB Hub w/ 3 other devices connected to that

one hub, and a total of 5 other USB devices connected to this computer. All but 2 are currently in use)

- I can easily see this lasting me much longer than through my "beginners" years.

- Very sleek looking. (Lets face it looks go a LONG way w/ product happiness) Even the packaging was sleek, very remniscent of Apples product packaging, which in my experience has been some of the nicest in the industry.

Bamboo Cons:

- Small footprint = small drawing surface. Some may not like the smaller drawing surface! (It truly doesn't feel odd at all especially for a beginner.)

- Although the high gloss finish on top is very nice looking, it gathers dust real quick.

- Pressure sensitivity is only 512 levels it's slightly noticable but for a beginners tablet no worries.

- Eraser not pressure sensitive

- 2 buttons on stylus are VERY sensitive and they don't "click" like you'd expect. Just be careful it's easy to press one and not know it which can be frustrating.

That's basically it. I need it for one purpose, and thus far it's proving to absolutely exceed all expectations for that (and many other) purpose(s). So if anyone is thinking of getting into digital art, or if you're thinking of a gift idea for someone, this is absolutely my recommendation hands down!

Hope it helps,

Frank... Bamboo (Small) Pen Tablet with Pen Only

Wacom leads in this technology by a long way. This product is affordable, yet powerful enough for many pros. The new Bamboo Fun line includes more colors and a mouse option. However, the pen only configuration is still my preferred choice.

The small size is perfect for most users. The "medium" sized tablet is suited for hard core graphics people who need to work at the pixel level on large images. Either way, the tablet maps to your screen size for any of these models.

This unit comes in a variety of colors and configurations. I prefer the look of the black tablet, but there are silver, white and blue ones also.

Bamboo Fun (Small) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software

Upon plugging in the device, it works immediately! The pen works as a mouse or as a pen/brush for drawing applications. The tablet also has function buttons.

Installing the drivers and software allows you to access the settings and tools that make this device versatile and customizable.

For those that need lite versions of graphics programs, the other sets include them. Many people who buy this will already have full blown Adobe Photoshop.

Pros

+ USB connection

+ Works on XP and Vista almost plug and play - before software installation

+ Nice customizable software

+ No additional power adapter needed

+ Pen can be used as stylus or pen mouse

+ Small size is perfect for users not using the mouse

Cons

- The scrolling zoom function does not work uniformly on all applications

- New Bamboo Fun sets include more bundled applications - Adobe Elements and Corel Draw

- Default settings require some configuration for graphics editing

- The tablet would have been ideal with several additional USB ports

Overall, the graphic artist or visual junkie NEEDS one of these. If you are a casual user, it is worth getting one on sale. The small model with pen only will meet most users' needs.

Mens Skeleton Watch - watches, dress watches

I have had this watch for about 2 weeks, and it is even better than I expected. So far, it has kept flawless time, and it is surprisingly easy to read the time for a watch with no numbers on the face. The internal movements are a little more intricate than you can see on the youtube videos of the watch working; there are at least 5 different visibly moving parts, though they're mostly concentrated in the upper-left part of the face. I continuously catch myself staring at it- people must think I'm pretty rude, the way I fixate on it.

It's a little bigger than I expected. This is fine for me, but it's certainly not a discreet watch. Don't get me wrong- it's not huge- but it is a full 44 millimeters across the face. That's about 1.75". It's also about a centimeter (0.4 inches) in height. Reviewers of other skeleton watches have commented on their noise and tend to describe them as loud. This watch is definitely audible in an otherwise silent room, but so far this hasn't been bothersome. I do, however, leave it on my desk when I go to bed. I was apprehensive of buying a wind-up watch, but it only takes about 2 seconds to wind this watch fully each day.

Finally, it's really cool. People sitting next to me will notice it and make me show it to them, and a few days ago a waiter complimented it. It is a very unique looking watch, which is enhanced by not having any numbers or distractions on the face. For this price range, it seems to be the best skeleton watch out there. I am strongly considering buying another one to keep as a backup, in case they ever stop selling them and something happens to mine. Rougois Hand Wind Decorated Skeleton Movement Watch RMS33S

I am a Radiologic Technologist and work with mostly ER and hospitalized patients. My coworkers are very positive with the appearance of the watch and are amazed at the intricacy of the works and how visible they are. I have already had a good comment from one of my ER patients and this is pretty cool considering that this was the first day that I have worn it!

The watch will be a nice conversation starter when I am getting a patient ready for an X-Ray exam since I can make a humorous statement about having a skeleton watch and taking X-Rays that show the inner beauty and workings of the human body. Making a patient feel more at ease is priceless and usually leads to much better and more diagnostically useful X-Ray images!

My only criticism about the watch is that the hour and minute hands have no glowing tips, yet the rotating second hand at the nine-o'clock position on the dial have glowing hands.

Excellent condition, beautiful details. Purchased as a present seeing how I am female. Comes in a jewel stretch plastic display case, so it can sit framed suspended in two layers of plastic. Does make decent noise while running but its not annoying. This can dwarf a decent man hand however. It's so big that unless you've got giant wrists its slightly awkward to see on a guy because its so chunky looking. The size is necessary for all the wonderful details inside so its just up to your own discretion.

I own several watches, but this one is kinda special. It is my first manual wind watch (the rest is automatic), but thus far I like it very much. Because there is always something to complain about and I usually like the bullet point reviews, I will start with the cons and end with the pros in bullet point format.

Cons:

- you have to wind the watch manually on a daily basis, if you are used to automatic watches with a power reserve of 40 hours or more this may be exhausting;

- it is pretty noisy, you hear the ticking of the watch, this may be bothersome in libraries or other places where silence is of the essence;

- the crown is rather big for the watch, I'd rather see a smaller crown but that's just my personal taste probably;

- the watch comes with a tang buckle instead of a deployment clasp, I like the latter better (ordered one from Amazon as well for USD 20);

- has no date;

- has no illimunated parts

Pros:

- the winding of the watch is very simple, just turn the crown approx. 15 times and you watch will be working all day;

- you will get a lot of compliments because it is a very nice skeleton watch;

Conclusion:

Although I listed quite some cons, the overall conclusion from my perspective is very positive: you will have a good working and beautiful watch for under USD 175, a bargain.

I own several automatic watches (Breitling, IWC Big Pilot, Rolex), and this is my first manual (hand wind) watch. It looks so elegant! It's very comfortable and you won't feel that you're wearing a watch.

I agree with everything other reviewers said, except for 1 thing:

THE TICKING SOUND IS LOUD!! It's not quiet at all! I put it in its box every night because I can't sleep. And this is normal, because it's a skeleton watch and manual watches tend to produce a higher ticking sound than automatic watches.

It's very accurate, I've had it for 5 days and it's still in sync with my phone!

I believe that buying an inexpensive AUTOMATIC/MANUAL watch means headaches, that's because usually a good quality watch movement is relatively expensive! BUT I like the fact that it doesn't display the date and it's a MANUAL watch, so the movement tend to be very simple (it doesn't have chrono, perpetual, etc...), thus the watch will probably live for a longer period of time!

Winding the watch is very easy, you don't need to pull the winder or anything, just rotate it clockwise while it's all the way shut.

I like the fact that you can see the power reserve (remaining time before it dies) on the dial.

Note: People have already asked me to see the watch and they loved it :)!

I highly recommend that watch!! - Mens Skeleton Watch - Dress Watches - Watches - Manual'

Woodworking - dust, filter

I have always used the cheap rubberband style face masks when I needed filtration from my woodworking endeavors and until recently thought that was enough. I watched a good little video from Marc Spagnolo ([...]) on the importance of properly stopping the dust from entering your lungs and was convinced I needed to upgrade. With his recommendations I went to the local Blue home improvement store and tried on both the 7500 series and 6500 series of mask. There is no comparision to how much more comfortable the 7500 series are. This particular item won't come with and cartidges or filters so you'll have to go down to the local Blue home store and pick them up or order them with your purchase of the mask. Also the Blue store only had medium and I felt they were a little small(although a proper fit was obtained with the medium). I ordered the large and am happy I did. Additionally the downfiring exhaust is awsome. I didn't once get a safety glass fog up.

As a side note If you don't order the cartidges with your purchase of the mask I recommend going 1 of two different ways.

1. Either purchase the standard organic filter (3M R6022 Organic Vapor Cartridge/Filter) which will cover most of your household needs and then additionally purchase the filter adaptor(3M #502 RESPIRATOR FILTER ADAPTER 2/PKG) and P100 filters (3M R-2091 Particulate Filter P100, 4-Pack). The standard particulate filter that comes with the organic filter is only rated to P95. For woodworking it's highly recommended that you go with a p100 filter better safe I always say!

2. Your other option is to purchase the organic vapor/acid gas/p100 filter (P100 / Organic Vapor / Acid Gas, 3M 6000 Series Cartridges, Pink/Yellow (2 Per Package)) and get total coverage for anything you'll ever expereince in the household environment.

I would for sure purchase this system again and If I need a filter for the wife I'll be buying one for her as well. 3M 7500 Series Reusable Half-Facepiece; Model 7503; Size: Large

I have found this to be a great product. It fits well, does not fog up my glasses and is comfortable for long periods of time. If you are just using it for protection from dust you will need 3M 2097 or 2091 filters.

The only complaint is that I had trouble finding the dust filters locally.

The 3M-7503 is their size large and fits me very well, but my hat size is XL.

I use 3M's 2097 filters, which are recommended for mold remediation

(with their full face mask).

While doing yard work,

I have been using disposable paper dust masks,

which fogged my eyeglasses with every exhalation.

By the end of a session, my eyes would be burning,

and I would be sneezing and could barely wait to remove the mask.

Thanks to 2097 filtration and the 7503's the good fit and exhaust valve,

I was almost reluctant to remove it after a longer than usual yard session.

Noted drawbacks: mild plastic odor and moisture accumulation inside

the mask and masked facial area, so regular rinsing and cleaning are wanted.

3M now offers lower restriction filters, but they are not widely available,

and I do not find the 2097 filters objectionably restrictive.

This respirator was recommended to me by Marc Spagnolo (aka the "Wood Whisper"). Simply put, the mask does not restrict breathing, is comfortable even over long time periods, and does, as near as I can tell, a first-rate job of protecting my lungs. If you are a woodworker, this is a must have.

I feel stupid for not doing this years ago. I've probably even spent as much on disposable masks as I did on this, and those only annoy me to the point of not using them for very long.

With the correct filters, I feel invincible in this thing! Lately, I've been working 8-hour days in my attic around a lot of insulation, saw dust, and slate dust from a recent roofing job, and I feel totally invincible.

AND - it isn't even uncomfortable. I'm truly surprised.

I bought the large. I am about 6'1", 185 lbs. My head looks normal (I think), but I always need large helmets and hats. The large fits great.

Used in conjunction with 2097 filters to work around sawdust and fiberglass insulation and seems to work quite well. Can finally use my glasses now while working since it exhausts downward. I believe the mid size one might also fit and I'll consider that size if I need to replace since this one does feel like it might be on the verge of being too large depending on how I move my head while working (it stretches causing a slight release of the seal against my face momentarily). Used a 3M white filter over my face prior to this and it was a pain to use since it didn't seal well and it allowed air to exhaust up into my glasses.

This is a great mask. I use it for Painting all sorts of automotive and aircraft paints and its perfect. It seals nicely to your face and is comfortable for long periods. I bought a large i am 6ft with an athelitic build if you are smaller in stature I would get a medium. Dont forget to buy filters.

My previous mask was the 3M 6000 series. Below are some differences I noticed:

6000 series:

-appears to be made of nitrile rubber and has a stronger odor when new

-uses rubber valves that can warp over time, especially if exposed to heat or sunlight

-elastic band can become stretched over time, requiring adjustment

7000 series:

-made of silicone which has little odor when new

-larger intake and exhaust valves make it a bit easier to breathe

-valves are made of silicone and less likely to warp

-thicker elastic band does not stretch

Neither mask (large) fits my long, narrow face particularly well, but my guess is the softer silicone would fit more comfortably and provide a better seal for most. I use this mask with either the 3M P100 particulate filters or 3M R6001 organic vapor filters. The mask work very well with either filter. - 3m Respirator - Filter - Respirator - Dust'
