High Definition - david morse, mystery

What a pleasant surprise! I'm the world's biggest Hitchcock fan, and well past my adolescent years, so I wasn't expecting a lot from a new flick that every critic in America said was "REAR WINDOW with teens." But this film actually works on its own merits, and the chief merit is Shia LaBeouf. I haven't been this impressed with a new talent since I saw Keisha Castle-Hughes in WHALE RIDER, or when I saw 15-year-old Matthew Broderick in the Broadway play, BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, some 25 years ago. This Shia guy is the real deal, and I have a feeling DISTURBIA will go down in the books as the film that really broke him out to a long, high-profile career.

Older folks, take note: This is not your average "teen thriller," nor is it a simple ripoff of Hitchcock. It is a clever, exciting new entity, expertly directed by D. J. Caruso. And the young lead is a perfect combination of Jimmy Stewart in REAR WINDOW (in the first 75 minutes) and Jodie Foster in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (in the final 30 minutes), and every bit as good as both of them. Give DISTURBIA a try--I think you'll like it. Disturbia [Blu-ray]

It's always exciting to see a new star on the rise. I don't know what IT is, but Shia LaBeouf has IT is spades. I'm a fan of 'Rearview' and think this is a good modern take on the classic. Though I do have to agree that the last third of the film begins to loose major points just in the sheer illogical motives of the killer. If you are going to be a psycho killer-why on earth would you live in the suburbs? Everyone knows everyone's business there...and you mean to tell me that one one would know this man was digging to China in the garage? Given how close all the houses were-no one else heard women screaming from his place? C'mon. If you can force logic to take a vacation during the movie's durance, you can actually have a pretty good time. Overall: worth watching.

"Disturbia" isn't original. It isn't too scary or gory either. What it is, though, is a fun popcorn yarn about a teen named Kale (Shia LeBeouf) who's placed under house arrest for taking out a little internal anguish on a Spanish teacher. His mother (Carrie-Anne Moss) takes away his television, his music and his X-box. What's a bored teen living in suburbia to do to pass the time? Spy on the neighbors, of course. It helps that his newest neighbor, Ashley (Sarah Roemer), is a knockout and takes regularly scheduled swims and rooftop reading breaks. Once he has all of his neighbors' daily lives timed perfectly, he introduces his friend, Ronnie (Aaron Yoo), to his voyeuristic world. The duo gets caught spying on Ashley but she ends up befriending them when they tell her that they believe one particular neighbor, Mr. Turner (the underused David Morse), might be a serial killer from Texas who was never captured.

This sets the film into motion. The three friends try to uncover the truth about their very private neighbor. The only problem is that with each clue they find that might lead to the truth, Turner seems to be one step ahead of them. Things get even crazier when the police think that Kale is crying wolf over everything.

What I really enjoyed about this film is that it's very funny. I'm not talking about it being funny in a sophomoric, slasher movie way, there's some very smart humor here. Director D.J. Caruso keeps the humor spread just thin enough to keep the suspense at an acceptable level. The cast is very likeable. LeBeouf has an ever-present goofiness about him, but when he needs to be afraid or angry, he pulls it off perfectly. Morse is sneaky and sinister at the same time. Whether he's a murderer or not, the guy will creep you out. Moss is solid, but has a very small role to fill. LeBeouf's pals do a good job as well.

The DVD doesn't have much to offer outside of the film that's worth more than one look. There's the standard "Making Of" featurette, outtakes, a forgettable music video, deleted scenes, and a photo gallery. The digital transfer is good, and the audio is nice as well.

Overall, "Disturbia" is a very fun suspense flick. It's not Hitchcock-caliber, but then again, so few films are. If you want Hitchcock, don't watch "Disturbia." If you want a good film to watch for a quiet evening at home, this film's the one for you.

With a starring role in the new Transformers film and a significant role in the upcoming Indiana Jones installment, Shia LaBeouf is being groomed as the next big thing. He made Disturbia just before these blockbusters and this little thriller was a surprise success at the box office as audiences gravitated to what critics rightly labeled Rear Window for the new Millennium.

It's hard to assess LaBeouf's ability as an actor as he's not given much to work with. The script is merely serviceable with thinly-sketched characters and clichéd dialogue. Veteran actor David Morse does the best job with the material as he oozes genial, soft-spoken menace in every scene. He wisely adheres to the less-is-more school of acting. Carrie-Anne Moss gets the thankless role of the mother who has to show her delinquent son some tough love while making friends with the next-door neighbour psycho. Her bland character makes one long for her sexy freedom fighter in The Matrix films.

Like David Lynch's Blue Velvet, Disturbia explores the dark underbelly that exists under the sunny facade of contemporary suburbia with LaBeouf as the amateur detective/voyeur, Morse as the evil psychopath and Sarah Roemer as the wholesome but not too wholesome girl-next-door. This film also evokes Brian De Palma's Body Double, a thriller about voyeurism and murder but unlike both of these films; it doesn't have the content or the style to separate itself from your average thriller.

Director D.J. Caruso tries to keep things interesting visually but he's kept in check by a PG-13 rating, essentially making Rear Window for teens. It's a change from his usual adult fare (Taking Lives and Two for the Money) but not in a good way. Disturbia falls back on tired clichés that we've seen a million times before, like the bad guy who feels the need to explain himself instead of killing off the hero thereby buying just enough time for the protagonist to regain the advantage. That's just sloppy, lazy screenwriting, folks.

There is an audio commentary by director D.J. Caruso and actors Shia LaBeouf and Sarah Roemer. Caruso answers a call from his wife early on to take an order of stuff to pick up afterwards which kinda sets the tone for this track. I mean, c'mon! At least have the forethought to turn off your phone beforehand. It is this lack of commitment which, in turn, makes you not really care about what's being said...which ain't much in all truthfulness. Avoid at all costs.

Also included are four deleted scenes that flesh out Kale's relationship with his mother and builds on the tension that exists between them. The other scene features a bit between Kale and his best friend that was rightly cut.

"The Making of Disturbia" is your pretty standard featurette as the cast and crew gush about one another. Caruso says that he wanted to make a John Cusack romantic comedy mixed with a thriller (?!). He also wanted to explore the nature of voyeurism with the advent of contemporary technology.

"Serial Pursuit Trivia Pop-Up Quiz" allows you to watch the film with a subtitled trivia track which is a nice added feature that helps distract you from what's happening in the film.

There is brief "Outtakes" reel that features some goofy improvisation in the scene where Kale and his dad go fly fishing.

There is a music video for "Don't Make Me Wait" by This World Fair that mixes footage of the band playing with clips from the movie.

Also included is a "Photo Gallery" with promotional stills and behind-the-scenes photographs.

Finally, there is a theatrical trailer. - David Morse - High Definition - Suspense - Mystery'

Boat Covers

Excellent A+++ service from amazon dealer - ordered Monday received Wednesday - very appreciated! Material seems sturdy. However, disappointed it doesn't fit snug or cover the sides completely as shown in advertised photo; no elastic and way too long for 25' pontoon. Had to use extra tiedowns & bungees to secure and modify for proper use. Could buy plastic tarps for a lot less and do the same thing. Pressed for time to get boat securely covered before leaving town so couldn't hassle with returning it. DuraShield's fault for not making product practical for the range of boat lengths it's made for. Knowing these things, wouldn't purchase this product again. DuraShield 25' to 28' Pontoon Boat Cover with Heavy Duty 600d Marine Grade Poly 2X

This is not an easy product to buy on the internet. The quality of this product is excellent, and well made. I was nervous about buying this product, but I took a chance. I highly recommend this product.

This cover fit over my playcraft 26 foot pontoon boat just fine including the bimimi top when it was folded down. The front of my boat is kind of V shaped and the cover is straight on the end like a rectangle shape but it still worked. The tie downs hold the cover down well when the boat is on the trailor but I don't think it can be used with the boat on the water without a lot of hassel. I looked at custom covers with price over $1000 and plenty of others of the shelf in the 300-500 range so this cover is pretty good for the price ($150 with shipping)'

Not Worth The Time - arch supports, foot care

The Arch supports are better than I was expecting. The selectable inserts are better than they look. I have been having pain in the heel and the arch just before the heel for the last year or so. I have used other gels and arch supports over the counter products with little help. These surprised me even more after seeing them in person. They look like they are weak and offer very little support, however the function was much better. The pain in me arch and heels almost completly stopped in just a couple days of use. I am on my feet over 12+ hours a day and they have made this much easier to do. After a few weeks of using in my shoes on even very uneven ground the pain is still 95% reduced. Pain I had after standing up after down time is also mostly non existant. These come with three choices of adjustability , by the addition of wedges that insert in the underside of the pad. I have only used the heavy wedges in these , and have not tried the lower ones as they just look like too slight of a change. I am glad I tried these and at this price I would suggest them to others. Dr Scholl's Adjustable Arch Pain Relief Orthotics, Men's 8-13, 1-Pair Packages (Pack of 2)

I am always wary of "dr. shcoll's" products as being nothing more than overblown marketing. I decided to give this item a try after reading a few of the positive reviews on this website ...

I was surprised that they really do help! It is not a 'cure' (of course), and there is still an issue of nighttime pain, but these really, truly help when I wear them during the day. Give it a try.

while not terrible uncomfortable, i find the arch support in the wrong place for my feet; the support feels too low and too much in the center to properly support my arch. thankfully they have a money-back guarantee, so if you buy them, make sure you keep your receipt, just in case they don't fit your specific foot.

My husband has had flat feet for 85 years. In addition, the bones in his feet have shifted making every step extremely painful. He's tried a lot of different arch supports, but these are by far the best he has ever found for holding his flat arch up. I would highly recommend them to everyone.

i had really bad foot pain due to the flat soled shoes i have been using for years now. the item comes with light, medium, and firm support inserts for the orthotics thou i felt that anything other then firm was not enough.

i have never tried Orthotics before so i did not know what to expect when i put them in my shoes. they fit snugly in my size 13 shoe and when i tried them out for an 8 hour shift at work it felt like i had only worked 4 of those 8 hours... usually my feet are killing my but the time im done.

thank you Dr Scholl's for a GREAT product!

Aging is not fun. For no reason I started to get a pain in my foot. Normally pains have always worked them self out and gone away. Not this time. I would imagine custom orthotics are better, but for this price it is working for me just fine.

This product works wonderfully. I bought them for my husband who starting a new job where he stands all day. He used complain about his feet hurting and since he has been wearing the arch pain relief orthotics, he is not experiencing any pain. I'm thinking on buying a pair for myself.

These are the absolute best inserts for me. My doctor suggested I try arch supports and see if I could find some that helped, and these are perfect (on the red, most firm insert). I have large feet for a woman (size 10 wide), so I get the Men's insoles. Some shoes won't fit well with the inserts in place (as is the case with any insert), but for me it's well worth it. I can't find these in stores anymore, so I'm ordering them off Amazon as long as I can. These are also nice because they weigh less than the gel arch supports, which is helpful with some shoes.

Flat feet, arch and heel has been hurting when walking for Months. Tried several 'jel' inserts that were comfortable but did not help me. THESE DO!

If I go a day without wearing these I can feel the aches coming back. These are about half the length of your shoe but they still stay put without slopping.

3 levels of arch support and at first it feels like a ball under your arch that leads to 'happy feet'. 2 pair even.

This Tv Is Not 240 Hz - passive 3d

Install:

Just received the TV yesterday via freight shipping. Package was in great shape and the delivery men wanted me to open the box and test the TV before they left. This set is absolutely stunning even when it is off! The great news is that it's even more amazing on. It is fairly thin at less than 1" and is a claimed 93lbs without the stand. It seemed alot heavier, but it may just be the sheer size of the TV that makes the weight awkward to handle. I mounted it with a super slim Sanus mount with the help of another person, of course, I'm no hulk! I did not have an inset electrical outlet, so I had to buy one of those flat three prong extension cords in order to be able to get the TV close enough to the wall to snap in the bottom. Since I mounted it above my fireplace mantle I got a tilting mount so that I could tilt the set downward since it sits about 5.5' above the ground.

Features:

I was most excited about the Cinema 3D so I will start there:

-uses the same cheap glasses as in the theaters, which is great.

-they are light weight and no worries if a kid breaks them, plus we have a collection of smaller glasses the kids get when going to see a 3D flick.

-The 3D quality is bright, very dimensional, and does not give me a migraine like the active shutter sets do. There is no flickering and dimming.

-True 3D content from the HD satellite Receiver or blu-ray is just gorgeous. better than the theaters as the screen is brighter.

-2D to 3D actually works and adds dimension to almost any show you're watching. It's fun to play with.

-My overall opinion is that Cinema 3D is the new standard until we can all go sans glasses some day

2D HD quality:

I am no videophile, but the pure 2D HD quality is fantastic, and amazing considering this set is 65".

Colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, overall i am very pleased.

Apps and Magic remote:

-the Magic remote is very much like a Wii remote and really makes using the apps, web browser and other features a breeze. you can also download the LG TV remote for your ios device and control the TV that way, worked really well.

-There are the standard set of apps including netflix as well as other freebies and ones you can buy. There is 256mb of built in storage, but with a limited amount of apps, and most coming in under 5mb, storage space won't be an issue, and you may be able to harness an extra USB stick, but I am not 100% sure.

Wireless adaptor:

I could not get the included wireless adapter to work with my d-Link wireless router, so I had to pull out my old trusty Linksys G router and the LG adapter recognized it right away. I tried many security options, and wireless speeds to no avail on the d-link, which works with every other device in my house, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Vizio TV, etc...

Conclusion:

For around $3000 I don't think you'll find a more desirable and feature rich set out there. LG Infinia 65LW6500 65-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV with Smart TV (Included: Four Pairs of 3D Glasses)

So, I have the 65lw6500 I got from here. Delivered no problem in one week. It replaced an LG 55LH90.

Here are my thoughts after a few days with it in no particular order. By the way, a little background on me....used to be REALLY into home theater, then I got married, so now I just enjoy it. I'm happy with the 80% solution. I have excellent vision and don't get motion sick or anything else like that. I do not like active shutter at all. It just irritates me, and the dimming and flickering I see when I move my head is a total deal breaker. YMMV

Anyway:

-it's freaking heavy. Also, it just seems huge compared to my 55". FYI, I sit about 10 feet.

-2d is very good. Surprisingly even good on SD content from Dish Network and older stuff on Netflix. Completely watchable.

- 3d is fantastic. Tangled is WOW! Of course, good source material makes a world of difference. Green Hornet added nothing in 3d, whereas Tangled was actually a more enjoyable movie in 3d. It was like a different film. I haven't seen any 3d issues.

-there is some flash lighting from the corners. I can tell a difference in blacks from my LH90 that had full local dimming backlight. (this does NOT have local dimming, unlike the 55 and 47 model 6500 listed in the table above. It's slightly annoying to me, but my wife doesn't even notice...also, I didn't point it out to her. Some things you just can't unsee. It improved as I adjusted the settings. The picture wizard is quite good.

-the edge lighting is more viewable as you move to the opposite side. For example, if I sit left of center, the right side of the screen becomes "less black" because of that side's edge light. Vice versa

- the magic remote is pretty nice, but not totally necessary..I wouldn't spend extra if it wasn't already included. There's not really any better way to explain it than comparing it to a Wii Remote. it also comes with another remote that has more buttons. Neither is what I would call a universal remote.

-the built in apps are cool. If you have a receiver with ARC, it's great to just click on Netflix, vudu, whatever and have the receiver switch over. The apps also work well. There are maybe 20apps or so? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon on demand (yes, watch the free stuff if you have Prime shipping), Pandora, Facebook, and some other ones that I don't recall.

-PS3 and Xbox 360 with kinect work just fine through my Onkyo r360 receiver. PS3 played Tangled blu ray with zero issues. I even put Ratchet and Clank in 3d conversion mode and it was pretty cool.

-speaking of, the 2d to 3d conversion is fun. It doesn't always work, but I'd say it's probably 85% right. I played Spongebob from Netflix and it got it mostly right, but there were times where his body, pants and legs were in the foreground, but his belt would be put in the background. Stuff like that. Generally, though, really cool.

In all, I like it. If you are the kind of person who NEEDS the blackest blacks, don't get it. But, passive 3d, large screen and 3d conversion sold me vs some other sets. - Passive 3d'

Impact Wrenches - impact wrenches, 18 volt

This is a useful tool with more power than you'd expect for its small size.

It's about 1.5 times the size and weight of my 1/4" hex drive impact tool but seems to have 4x the power. This obviously isn't going to out drive an air powered impact wrench but has more than enough power to handle lug nuts.

The only time this tool failed to impress me was removing large diameter stainless steel fasteners with seriously galled threads (an antenna mount that had been on our office roof for 10+ years.) The DC820B could break the seized 3/8 bolts but didn't have the power to break the 1/2" bolts. It tried and tried but couldn't quite get the job done. I could feel a slight flexing of the tool in my grip that probably robbed torque from the job at hand. To be fair, I had removed more than 50 bolts before attempting to free the seized bolts and didn't take the time to replace the battery so this isn't conclusive, your results may be better.

The only real design complaint I have about this tool is the socket retention mechanism. Instead of the spring loaded ball or hog ring systems used on most 1/2 air impact tools this one has a spring loaded "detent pin retention system". On my tool this requires using a small screwdriver or similar tool to push in the retention pin every time you want to change a socket. It was a hassle at first but now I just leave a short impact extension on the tool and change sockets on the extension.

I mention this since when looking at the parts diagram it appears that Dewalt has different models that use the hog ring system. One of those might be a better choice if you change sockets frequently.

Like one or two other reviewers mine emits a slight burning smell that seems to have gotten less noticeable the longer I use the tool. I have some other Dewalt tools that had the same problem but none have died (so far at least) Bare-Tool DEWALT DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery)

This tool is small and light but has plenty of power for any 1/2" socket you would be likely to use. It works best with the lithium battery but the nicad works just fine although noticeably heavier. After using this tool hard for several days I'm not sure 5 stars is enough. The work performed per pound would have been unimaginable a few years back.

A friend of mine has one of these and I had to have one. Wow! My favorite cordless DeWalt, no doubt! First use was to remove the blades from my riding mower....Zip! No holding the blades, off and back on again, so easy! Plenty of power! So, be careful! This thing has enough torgue to snap bolts! I am extremely happy and satisfied with this purchase!

If you are looking at the DC823 or DC825 or any other 18v impact, get this instead. Why? 25% more torque than DC825 (1330 in/lb) and 240 more inch pounds than DC823(1500in/lb). The DC820 has 1740 in/lb. With a couple simple adapters you can do anything you can with the other 2 impacts. Any "impact rated" 1/2" to 3/8" adapter will get you the functionality of the DC823. There are several adapters to go from 1/2" to 1/4" hex as well, I chose the "ASIN:B002KKBBR4 Milwaukee 48-03-4410 Shockwave 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter" and now I can do anything the DC825 can do as well. Just one bit of caution however when using it with the 1/4 hex adapter to drive screws, it is so powerful you can overdrive/break normal strength fasteners if you aren't paying attention. I also have the option of just putting a socket on and using it for automotive applications. It pulls lugs nuts off like a champ. This thing rocks, just buy it already!

This little tool will amaze you. When I got it I couldn't wait to test it out so I went out and removed a lug nut off a 2000 model Dodge Ram 1500. I have a Kobalt 1/2 Air impact that I also use, this thing worked just as fast as my air impact. I must admit though I have never felt that the Kobalt was as strong as it should be. Loved the fact I could buy just the tool since I had the 18v batteries from my combo set I bought 3-4 yrs ago. Very highly recommended. I also got the smell with the first couple of uses.

I purchased the 820B impact as a bare tool since I have several DeWalt tools with batteries and I was quickly and completely amazed. It is lightweight, has tremendous power and with the quick change adapters available it is indeed the most versatile tool I own. I can't imagine how anyone could be disappointed with this tool.

Well, I got to choose a father's day present, and the impact wrench won out. It was the low cost alternative to buying a huge compressor and all the air ratchets I could want. I'm a car enthusiast, but I usually work with limited space here where we live. So having something as small and portable is a huge plus! So far I've only done a handful of projects in which I used this thing, but every time it's cut the work time in half. Instead of endlessly spinning a socket wrench, I just put the socket on and pull the trigger! Completely worth every cent we spent on it! We'll see how it continues to hold up in the coming months as we put it to work on rusty engine bolts, but it's performed wonderfully so far!

Mine was packaged brand new in clean, sharp retail packaging with brand new details everywhere and absolutely zero signs of use. Did yours have a gun powder smell from the fan vents when the motor was run under zero load?

Well yours was as new as mine then. I assume that smell is that of a new Dewalt impact tool.

I also add that mine is capable of pulling off lug nuts set at 110 ft/lbs without any drama.

I guess about 2-3 vehicles or about a full work day between recharges on the 2.4 mAh pack for your average mechanic in your average garage - maybe weeks for your average shadetree. Nice. And fast too! Everyone will want to know what you've got in your hands as the nuts just keep falling off. You'll draw a crowd! - Bare-tool - I Own It - Impact Wrenches - 18 Volt'

Sketch Books - sketch books, recommended

If you love to draw, then you will know that not all paper is created equal. The paper in this stetch pad is top quality. The paper is smooth not rough, so my colored pencils, charcoal, etc just glides across it. I love this paper! Top Flight Sketch Pad, Heavy Back, 8.75 x 12 Inches, 50 Sheets (62301)

This is an excellent general purpose sketch pad. The surface of the paper is smoother than you would normally find but personally prefer this when using colored pencils. The paper is quite heavy and the pad is stoutly bound and can take a pretty good beating.

The back of, as advertized, very heavy so you get a good working surface if you are using this think on your lap as I often to.

It should be noted that this paper is not acid free and of course should not be used for anything you are going to want to keep for any great length of time.

You do indeed get 50 sheets here and for the price, when you consider the amount and quality of paper you are getting, this is a pretty good price.

I purchased this sketch pad for my daughter as a gift and she is getting a lot of use out if it. She really enjoys the stability of the spine on the pad. She had difficulties losing pages from previous sketch pads because the spine was cheaply made and the glue didn't hold up...but has experienced none of these issues with this sketch pad. She takes it back and forth to school and feels confident that everything will stay where it needs to stay. I will be purchasing another for her when the time comes.

Item came early and in outstanding condition great seller. Outstanding paper and pad.

The paper and pad is exactly as described. This is a type of pad I have used when practicing which I am doing with shapes and mediums I have not done and used before. This may be a pad one who would like to create a portfolio with due to the sturdiness of the paper and the smoothness.

When I am learning new things this is the type of paper and pad I like to use, but for finishing products I like to use professional paper and pads... that is just me.

This is the best Sketch Pad and Quality Paper I have found for the money. I bought other kinds that were more expensive and will not make that mistake again. Highly recomend for Pencil, Oil Pastel, Pitt Artist Pens, and Charcoal Sketching.

I recieved the product, along with the pencil set I purchased with it, within just a few days of placing my order. Very speedy shipping!! I like that. As far as the product itself, I got exactly what was described and am pleased with that. This paper is great for beginners right on through to intermediate level drawing. Ofcourse, you can use this paper at any skill level, but if I were very, very good and wanted to draw something to give as a gift, put on display, or sell, paying more for higher quality paper would be well worth it. However, for anything other than very serious work, this paper does the job, plus it is inexpensive. It gets my recommendation. - Sketch Books - Recommended'

Review Summary: You would have a hard time finding someone in a better position to write this book. Dr. Willett is chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, a professor at Harvard Medical School, and he heads some of the most important long-term studies of how nutrition affects health. In this up-to-date book, you will learn what the latest research shows about how eating, alcohol use, exercise and not smoking can help you avoid some diseases and birth defects. The book also explains how to read the latest health headlines and interpret the studies they are based on in the future. The lessons are summarized into a Healthy Eating Pyramid that you will find easy to understand, apply, and remember. The book contains a lot of helpful information about how to shop for more nutritious and healthful foods, and easy-to-follow recipes. I was particularly impressed with the summaries of the data on how weight and eating relate to various diseases. The book's only obvious flaw is that it does not attempt to refine the overall research into subsegment groups like those with different blood types, different genetic tendencies, age levels, and so forth. Review: Like Sugar Busters! this book takes a serious look at overcoming the tendency for having too many fast-absorbed carbohydrates (whether as baked potatoes or as a soft drink) overload your blood with sugars and depress your metabolism. Unlike the "avoid fat at any cost" diets, this one says to avoid bad fats (especially trans fat and saturated fats) and to use helpful fats (like unsaturated fats that are liquid at room temperature). You are also encouraged to seek out nuts as a source of vegetable protein. There is also a good discussion of the healthiest ways to acquire your protein. The beef v. chicken v. fish discussion is especially helpful. He is skeptical about the need for much in the way of dairy products (I was shocked to realize how much glycemic loading, creating sugar in your blood, is caused by skim milk), but favors vitamin supplements as inexpensive insurance. He shows that calcium supplements may not do as much as you think to avoid fractures. Exercise and not smoking are encouraged. Raw foods and ones that are slow to digest (whole wheat, for example) are encouraged among the fruit and vegatables, in particular. The pyramid is contrasted to the one that the USDA adopted in 1992, which seems to be almost totally wrong. Apparently, it was developed based on a very limited research base. Since then, much has been learned. I enjoyed reading about all of the long-term studies being done now to understand the connections among eating, lifestyle, and health. The next 10 years should radically revise the lessons summarized here, as Dr. Willett is quick to point out. The conclusions in this book, for example, are based on individual studies of eating, drinking, exercise and health rather than the long-term studies that he supervises and follows. So even those studies may show new things. In one part of the book, he discusses the pros and cons of some of the popular diets. Some simply have not been tested for health effects, and he is candid in sharing what is not known as well as what is. This book will be especially valuable to those who like to get their information from highly credible sources, especially from within the medical community. I think I'll give a copy to my physician, who has been advising me to reduce fats in the wrong way!Although I don't consider myself very helpful in shopping for or preparing food, I learned a lot from the book about how our family can acquire better building blocks for a healthier diet. After you finish reading this book, think about where else in your life you may be following outdated information. How can you check? A good example is probably related to what you think it costs parents for children to go to graduate school and get a Ph.D. In many schools, all the costs are subsidized, and the students even get a living wage. How does that change your plans for encouraging your children's education? Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy

This book is a breath of fresh air among a noxious swarm of books that claim to know how we must eat in order to be healthy. They recommend a bewildering variety of diets, megadoses of vitamins and minerals, herbs, extracts, and heaven knows what else, all guaranteed to make us healthy. Some even peddle the nonsense that they can stop, or even reverse, aging.

In contrast, Walter Willett's book is based on solid science, obtained by careful research involving, in some cases, more that 100,000 persons. There is no intuition here. The recommendations are based on facts. And mighty interesting facts they are. We see that the famous, heavy-on-carbohydrate USDA food pyramid has little evidence to support its role in health. Instead, it appears to support the income of the food industry. He presents his own pyramid, based on daily exercise and weight control. Sitting on this base are whole grain foods, vegetable oils, fruits, vagetables, nuts, legumes, fish, poultry, and eggs. At the top of his pyramid are small amounts of dairy products, and even smaller portions of red meat and carbohydrate. He presents evidence to support his pyramid, and the result is impressive. He leads us through things that we should know about fats, carbohydrates, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. We even get recipes. For me, a biochemist, the book's strong point is its lack of the unsustantiated claims that I see in so many of the popular books on nutrition. Walter Willett is one the persons best qualified to write an outstanding book on this subject, and the result is excellent.

This book by Dr. Walter C. Willett is the second of two very good books on nutrition I am reviewing. The first was `Nourishing Traditions'. Both works have fairly impressive documentation for their claims from scientific literature. I just wish they would agree on all major points. The irony of the disagreement is that both appear to be railing against the same establishment that is based on endorsing a diet heavy in empty carbohydrates and demonizing fats.Dr. Willett differs from Ms. Fallon and co-authors in his recommending as small as possible an intake of animal fats from butter, eggs, and meat. The basis of their difference lies in the effect of dietary intake of cholesterol (in contrast to cholesterol manufactured by the body) and in the nutritional value gained from both animal proteins and fats. Dr. Willet's position, backed up by the authority of the Harvard School of Public Health seems more in accord with today's conventional wisdom. Oddly enough, Ms. Fallon's principle demon is another Harvard professor pictured as being in the pay of major American food processors. The two authors agree on most other things, especially in endorsing whole grains, mono-unsaturated oils, and fish for their omega-3 fatty acids. They also agree on the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet. Dr. Willett goes further to clarify this issue by pointing out that it is not enough to concentrate on any regionally based diet. The Mediterranean diet happens to be healthy due to the conjunction of olive culture, seafood, and grape culture. Those Italians and Greeks just lucked out, I guess. I can confirm this observation by mentioning that two ethnic American diets, the Gullah diet of the Carolina islands and the Pennsylvania Dutch diet appear to be particularly unhealthy due to the high concentration of animal fat, butter, processed flour, and processed sugar in these diets. While I have an enormous respect for Ms. Fallon's book and I would probably adopt it's recommendations wholeheartedly if I lived alone, the recommendations in Dr. Willett's book appear to be more conservative and easier to follow. Given the great complexity of any reasonable model for human nutrition, in a world of less than perfect knowledge, the simpler course certainly seems to be the more preferable. Happily, both authors agree that one secret to good nutrition is variety. While Willett doesn't say this in so many words, he comes close to characterizing the great American meal of red meat and potatoes as a step removed from poison.Willet's great adversary is the US Department of Agriculture's food pyramid that he says, quite correctly, I believe, is simply wrong. The three greatest sins are:Placing carbohydrates at the broad base of the pyramid with no distinction between valuable whole grains and nutritionally empty processed wheat and sugar.Placing oils at the top of the pyramid with no distinction between harmful fats and healthy olive oil, fish oils, and other healthy lipids.Placing potatoes, another source of empty carbohydrates in the large stage near the bottom with other, much more healthy vegetables. The scariest thing about processed carbohydrates is not only do they provide no value, they actually steal things from your body and create dangerous situations. The author balances this warning with a wealth of information on alternate grains, starting with whole wheat and covering the entire repetoire of ancient grains such as spelt, millet, quinoa, flaxseed, and buckwheat. In place of the USDA pyramid, Willett and allies create a new pyramid correcting these errors. It also adds a strong recommendation for exercise, an endorsement of a multivitamin, and a confirmation of the beneficial properties of small amounts of alcohol, primarily red wines. More of that Mediterranean thing! As someone who has always been fond of both bread and pasta, my biggest puzzle over these recommendations is that how can, for example, the southern Italian diet be seen as being so healthy when it is literally loaded with these two sources of carbohydrates. I suspect the answer lies very much with portion size and the wisdom of several courses spread out over a longer time at the table than most Americans seem to afford. Please read this book and consider its recommendations very carefully. I suspect some of these recommendations will change as science moves on and I hope the prospects for animal fats improve. But meanwhile, this is as good as it gets for recommendations on nutrition. - Initiative - Dr Mike Moreno - Entrepreneurshi - Kindle Price More Than Paperback'

Arch Pain - arch supports

As a person who has battled plantar fasciitis for 4+ years and has had several foot doctors, orthotics, shots, stim treatments, nightsplint, etc this has been a great additonal to the battle of finally getting to fully fixed instead of being at 95-98% for forever.

Pros:

1. Much more comfortable than orthotics so they could be put aside

2. When sitting for awhile like with a desk job this will keep it from tightenting up and ruining whatever good the rest of what your doing is trying to achieve. This is honestly what I felt my foot needed. Pressure on the middle of the foot closer to the toes as opposed to the heel.

[...]Latest Update: I saw all my reviews and remembered I did this one and never updated it. Then I felt even more guilty as there were 19 out of 19 that really liked this review. All that I said above was true, but this and the other stuff never did heal me after well more than a year.

If what you saw above is your story please get Clair Davies Trigger Point Therapy Workbook and that will hopefully be your answer. It was for me. Deep massage in the middle of the calf where it hurt as well as a few other places have me free of all contraptions in my shoes and I can even walk around in my stocking feet in the house again. Truly a miracle that the answer was this simple for me. Anyway, I can't guarantee it will be for you, but if you were like me you'll try anything to hope for that affliction to improve. Pro-Tec Athletics Arch Supports-Pair (Large)

I got this for my wife who complained about the pain every single morning when she woke up.

She uses it now. She complains no more, except on the rare nights that she forgets to put them on.

Worth every penny.

I have been fighting plantar facitis and TSS for many weeks now. I ordered these and within days my feet were feeling better. After 1 week, the least amount of pain I have had in months. I could not be happier with these and can't believe how simple they seem. All I can tell you is they work!

So far, I find these supports give some relief to my plantar fac. However, I ordered a medium because it was rated for women's sizes starting at size 5 (I'm an 8). I wish I had gotten a small because the strap doesn't wrap to get the tightest fit for my normal sized 8 foot (I'm not overweight, so my feet aren't wide). It works sufficiently. But the excess wrap/strap then sticks out so it's not practical for me to wear them with shoes (too much to tuck into the side - if that makes sense). I wear them around the house as much as possible though and it really does give relief to have the added arch support. Just would prefer an upgrade on design and sizing. Hope this helps! - Arch Supports'

Brioni Made In Italy - summer suit, suit

I had been uncertain when I bought this suit, as I had never purchased suits over the Internet before. Also, between the time I ordered the suit and it arrived, I had found questionable reviews of the vendor.

I was pleasantly surprised that the suit arrived in very good condition, and was of a very high grade. The local clothing store that I had tailor the suit to me, said that if they were to carry the Gino Valentino label, they would sell it at the top end of their product range.

(And dang, I look good in a 3-piece!) Gino Valentino Vested Mens Suit Made in Italy Australian Worsted Merino Wool / Silk 150's Canvas Front Jacket + Flat Front Pants + Vest 3 Button 3pc Three Button Business Suit Charcoal Stripe (44 Regular)

I'm not a big suit wearer as I work in industry for a living and don't have a lot of opportunities for dress-up, but after attending a recent wedding AND a funeral, I decided I needed to start looking for a second suit. I had looked at a couple of mid-range clothing stores and everything in the price range I was shopping just hung so cheaply. Disappointed, I gave up on the idea for a while...until I signed onto Amazon, just on a hunch. I saw some great looking suits at some fantastic prices, but how could I not be skeptical. I mean, I'm old enough to know that if it sounds to good to be true, it mostly likely is, right? Well, I am so glad I took the chance and ordered this suit. It looks, feels, and fits FANTASTIC! I just ordered my sport coat size (46L) and this thing fits perfectly. I will not hesitate to send friends and family this way for their future purchases. Thanks for everything!

It has the right drop, the cut was shapely but not to trim, the jacket has a nice hang and fits well across the shoulders, and the linen is good quality. The attention to detail is high with a high quality of construction, the stitching is excellent, and the hidden finishes are well done!!

It is a truly great quality product by a very good seller and cooperative customer service. It arrived on time and well packed. Sizing was very good. Just make sure what size fits you best. The only draw back about everything is that you pay for the shipping if you are retuning or exchanging the products which does not apply if you are buying from a store. However the good price makes for that unless you decide you do not want it. Then you will be losing time and little money. I just ask the seller to offer free shiping two ways to encourage more customers to buy through them. The advertised listing price is too much compared with the reality. My estmate of the original price can just be $50 - 100 more than the final sale price!

Best wishes.
