Reciprocating Saws

Milwaukee wrote the book on Sawzalls, and this new one continues the legend. I looked at all the models both here on Amazon and on the factory site. I will be using it for home projects so I didn't feel I need either maximum power or orbital action. I have used it on two different projects-pruning and beam cutting and I'm totally satisfied! I needed to flush cut the end of a 4"x6" beam in a difficult spot. It cut through like butter, and at the end of the cut which ended at a projecting eave, I could feather the switch and just cut the beam without damaging the eave. I think the orbital action would not have made that possible-to much bouncing around. I've also used it for heavy pruning and with the ability to get the blade into tight places makes all the difference! It sure has all the power I'll ever need, and it's not quite as heavy as the 15amp model. If you don't need it for heavy demo or construction I think you'll be happy! Added bonus-MADE IN USA!! Milwaukee 6519-31 12 Amp Sawzall Reciprocating Saw Kit

This is the best reciprocating saw on the market and I would like to have given 4.9 out of 5. It is compact and not a monster. I find that Milwaukee is very conservative in their designs and I hate it. Some tools look like they were made in the 1980's even though they are from 2010. This tools actually looks sleek and kinda modern (finally).

Now to the bad...the pivoting shoe is not adjustable! That is the only complaint I have about this saw. Why would you not include an adjustable shoe Milwaukee... I mean was it that hard to incorporate a small stupid, cheap mechanism that allows the shoe to be adjusted. It would have cost a few more pennies and IF you had done that, I would have bought 2 of these saws.

I have used reciprocating saws before and I always find the shoe adjustment to be very necessary, you see when cuting a pipe the shoe keeps the blade perfectly perpendicular to the pipe so the cut is perfect... everytime. Now when you got a wall behind the pipe you want to adjust the shoe so that it only cuts the pipe and not the wall.

I am a bit angry and sad at the same time that Milwaukee missed this, I would have gladly paid 10 bucks more for this feature.

When it comes to reciprocating saws, I have tried most brands during my construction career, and Milwaukee remains the hallmark of the bunch. I ordered this updated 12A model, and I am in love with it. Plenty of power, great cord, awesome ergonomics, and probally one of the last brands of reciprocating saws to be assembled in the USA. The problem was deciding on whether to choose the 3/4 or the 1-1/8 stroke length. In tight spots the shorter is nice, because these tools can beat you up between dimension lumber. I ordered the longer stroke, giving a wide wear band on blades and cutting faster, accepting that their will be a time or two that I get in situation where I'll end up bloodying a knuckle or two and bending or snapping a blade. This kit does not come with a free blade, but I think Milwaukee is wise to keep the price competitive by limiting give away blades. Most guys that buy Milwaukee have at least few blades laying around -if not order an assortment with the tool and enjoy the free shipping. Milwaukee -thank you for manufacturing the best.

I have bamboo groves and palm trees on my property and this saw has made my life much easier. I have even used it to cut oak for firewood. In many ways it is easier to use and works better than a chainsaw for smaller limbs. With a pruning blade it makes trimming and thinning a snap and I am pleased to say the blades are very tough and long lasting as well. I wish I would have bought this saw years ago.

This is my 3rd sawzall I purchased for my construction co. and this one is the best.

I also purchased several sawzall blades(the ax and also the heavy duty blades for

remodeling. This sawzall with the 1 and 1/8" stroke is absolutely the best.

Solid tool all around. Rugged feel and case, beefy cord. Easy quick locking mechcanism for blades. Makes really short work of 2X6's and 1/2" plywood. Comes with only a couple blades, but luckily for around 30$ shipped you can get a big Milwaukee blade kit on Amazon as well. A great value at the Amazon price.

The other positive reviews are right on target. A couple of additional notes:

- Mine says Assembled in USA with foreign and USA made parts. Well, that's better than any other brand.

- It also comes with a molded plastic carrying large enough for a bunch of blades as well. The description doesn't state this.

- It dosen't seem quite as well balanced as the ones that I remember from 15 years ago or so. But then, I never owned my own, only briefly used others. Anyway, it's better that my old Black & Decker by a long shot.

I picked one of these up at the local orange store because I needed to do some tree pruning and light demolition. Though the smallest Sawzall by amperage, its got enough power to tackle anything around the home or farm. If you are a professional tradesmen, I would spring for the Super Sawzall or the cordless 28v. I researched and thought about going bigger but I now know I definitely didn't need to.

I bought this saw specifically for pruning. I didn't expect much from this saw due to the price and lack of features as compared to other sawzalls. Boy, was I wrong! One thing for sure, this saw certainly isn't lacking in power! I own several other sawzalls: Milwaukee models 6538-21,6522-21,6536-21 and an 18 volt cordless Milwaukee, also Makita models JR3070CT and BJR182Z. All our fine tools. Milwaukee sets the standard for heavy duty. Thank you AMAZON for providing quality tools at reasonable prices.

I bought the 12 amp version because it was made in the US and of its reputation with tradesman. I recently demolished a 2500 square foot two story house using crowbars and this saw. I used it to cut cast iron pipes, sections of roofing 4 inches thick, and everything from 2x4s up to a box sill 8 inches thick. It handled everything I could throw at it and some stuff the saw was probably not designed for. The quick change blade holder really came in handy when I was 40 feet in the air cutting a roof apart. Just a fantastic tool and I will recommend it without reservation.'

Concrete Design

I'm giving this book 5 stars, since it inspired me to create my countertops in concrete; something I wouldn't have done otherwise. Don't be confused by my comments below, I don't regret buying this book at all. I even plan to put concrete countertops in the next house I build. However, there were quite a few hurdles that had to be overcome. It has been mentioned that the author glossed over quite a few things, and I agree. A few comments:First, contrary to the author's comments, an electric sander is completely inadequate for vibrating the concrete. Buy or rent a professional vibrator unless you want pinholes in your work. Hand "massaging" and rapping the sides with a hammer will not completely eliminate the problem either. I tried all three methods and still ended up with a moderate amount of honeycombing. As the author mentions, this is easily patched, and it even adds character to the work if you use a slightly different color, but be aware: properly vibrating the mix is not nearly as simple as it seems to be in the book. My comments pertain to a mix that has proper slump (i.e., not too wet). Second, the author makes a reference to plastic cabinet legs being inadequate to support a concrete countertop. That may be accurate for the flimsy off-the-shelf cabinets, but the plastic cabinet legs that are quickly becoming a standard ... are load-rated at 650 pounds EACH. This is more than enough to support a think concrete countertop (probably even better than a shimmed 2x4 base).Next, I would have to say that I was slightly annoyed at the lack of "recipes" needed to produce some of the stunning work shown in the book's illustrations. Visiting the author's website was also annoying since there it doesn't help much (unless you want to buy one of his pricey kits.) One of the reasons I went with concrete was because it is cheap. We ended up using Quickrete5000 and a Quickcrete dye (Buff). We threw in a couple of geodes for effect. It turned out quite nice, and works well with our slate floor. I understand and respect that the author is trying to run a business, but I have to reconcile that with my being on a budget.Again, I'd like to remind the reader that I would not have built my countertop if I had not found this book, but the method for building a form split at the sink seemed a bit silly. They used a single form that then had to be flipped all at once (very heavy, dangerous, and a potential cause for damage to the countertop). Because of the weight, I chose to split my countertop (diagonally at the sink, as in the book), but instead I built two forms. Much safer and easier to flip over. Finally, it is a matter of taste, but as soon as you are happy with the texture of your countertop, stop grinding/polishing! As he states in the book, the pads are expensive. One more thing, In the future I'd like to try using something other than melamine for the forms. The slight texture of the melamine is perfectly reproduced in the concrete. I noticed in a few of the angled spots that used paint over bare wood, the concrete was perfectly smooth (i.e., no grinding required). I suspect that using perfectly smooth plywood with a smooth coat of polyurethane would produce a better countertop out of the box. Since I don't really want to expose any aggregate (accomplished by grinding), this might work better for me, although I won't know until I try. All in all, I'd have to say it is a wonderful book, but be prepared to experiment and to think for yourself. Concrete Countertops: Design, Form, and Finishes for the New Kitchen and Bath

I've been waiting for this book to be printed for a few months. Since the first time I saw a concrete countertop in home I was touring, I've wanted to learn more about how to make them. Unfortunately, no books on the subject existed until this one.Fine Homebuilding had an article featuring the author that stopped short of being an all-inclusive 'How-To' on creating countertops from concrete. This book is all of that. The book takes the reader through the process of creating a kitchen countertop step-by-step. It includes instructions for building the form, concrete composition (including a recipe), coloring, finishing, handling & installation and maintenance. The author includes numerous hints and tips gleaned from his experience that should help the first-time countertop maker avoid problems.Other titles I've purchased from Taunton included great photos and illustrations. This book is no exception. It's packed with hundreds of full-color photographs of the process and of completed kitchens that will fuel your imagination. My only disappointment is that the author didn't include more specific information and/or recipes that would allow a do-it-yourselfer (like me) to achieve some of the looks featured in the book. By adding various dyes and aggregates, a wide variety of looks can be created using concrete. I understand Mr. Cheng's need to protect some of his secrets but it will be difficult for me to experiment as I lack the time and resources to duplicate some of the examples shown.Thank you to Taunton Press and Mr. Cheng for providing a great book. I can't wait to get started...

I've known about concrete countertops for years and have never been able to find a book that doesn't just make a cursory reference. This is the first book ever to describe, start-to-finish, how to make concrete countertops. The photography is beautiful and sends the creative part of my mind spinning with ideas. The only drawback, is that Fu-Tung Cheng keeps too many things secret, or he was limited by space from REALLY getting into the nitty gritty. But with some common sense and trial-and-error, you should be able to fill in the blanks.A warning to do-it yourselfers: Because a lot of trial-and-error is required on the reader's part, whatever you do, do the seperate mold technique (which is heavily covered) and do not attempt to cast it in place (not covered much) unless you really know what you're doing. This book gives you a great starting point from which to practice your own functional art, and is well worth the price.'

Game Of The Year - shooter, video games

Alright, I'm a serious COD fan and I logged almost a month on Modern Warfare 2, and a little over a half a month on all the other COD titles. You all know what the prestige edition comes with, as it is all listed above, but is it truly worth the extra money?

It's hard to say. It certainly cool and I waited outside of my local Best Buy at 9pm before the midnight release to get in line to make sure I got a copy. The ONLY thing that comes with the prestige edition that is not included in the hardened edition is the RC-XD killstreak remote controlled car. That being the only thing different-I'll go over it a bit.

--It feels cheap and very light (not complaining, exactly what I would expect-I didn't expect a serious quality RC car).

--It takes 12 AA batteries, 6 in the remote and 6 in the car, which drain pretty fast. (especially if the camera is on)

--The car zips around pretty well but won't do well in the grass at all.

--I've played with RC cars all my life and this one is a little difficult to handle. The turns are crazy sharp with the steering dial on the right of the remote, it takes a very steady hand to carefully steer the car.

--The camera (as expected, not complaining) is very low quality and it is impossible to drive while just looking at the screen on the remote. The lens is faced upward and if you're driving it on the street or in the house you cannot see the ground to see where you're going, you see the top 2/3 of a level of a house.

--The microphone is pretty sensetive so if it is on, you'll constantly hear the gears and mechanisms from inside the car and will come through on your remote and it sounds like a cheap $5 toy car engine sound.

As far as gameplay goes, it varies, and truly, it's all depending on what COD games you like the most. I've read other reviews and I do agree with others that it feels a lot like World at War with some minor additions. The online play is not as smooth as IW's Modern Warfare 2 or even COD4.

ONLINE GAMEPLAY

I think the online gameplay takes some adjusting to after playing MW2 because MW2 was so fast paced and sometimes predictable. The spawnpoints on Black Ops from my experience have been all over the place. I very regularly find myself spawning behind people and saying "man I'd be pissed if I was that guy" and many times I AM that guy. The refresh rate is not that of MW2 and the graphics in multiplayer really suffer. I thought that with the popularity of the COD franchise that they would only stride to make each addition better than the last, but truly I think this one falls short. You buy all of your attachments with bets (or contracts) wagered, and that's actually pretty fun. It's like the same thing as challanges, but it puts a little more pressure on you because you have a time limit. Stopping power and danger close are gone, as is one man army. But because there aren't really noobtubes with one man army or people using stopping power and trailblazing, I find that there are MANY MORE campers in here, sitting back trying to achieve their higher killstreaks. Killstreaks do not count toward other killstreaks, so if I get my RC-XD remote controlled explosive car, and get 2 kills..that still doesn't mean I get my carepackage--I still have to shoot/knife/grenade someone myself. This was apparently a complaint of "the rich get richer/poor gets poorer." I personally think if people are having troubles with a game they shouldn't cry about it on blogs and complain to creators because they cannot personally do well in a video game-that's your own fault. Multiplayer in conclusion, not what I expected. I'm getting used to it, but I'm going to miss the pace of MW2 and the way you unlock attachments for weapons instead of having to buy them.

CAMPAIGN

The compaign mode is great. The graphics are MUCH better and I really wish they would have focused on making their graphics better for online play instead of stupid things like putting your clan tag on your gun and things that most people could do without. One thing I loved about World at War was the super satisfying shotgun to the legs during campaign where they blow off, and there's plenty of that here. A great assortment of weapons and plenty to do, including the use of vehicles. I really have no complaints about the campaign, it's very fun and you'll absorb it right away.

ZOMBIES

Of course zombies are great! I think they focused harder on zombies than they did multiplayer also, atleast as far as graphics go. Automated turrets and all kinds of fun stuff to do! Plus, with the prestige or hardened edition, you get the 4 original maps-which is a great value considering what I spent on WAW mappacks in the past. It's fun playing the old maps with the additions of the new guns. I loved playing on Nacht der Untoten and going upstairs and cornering myself in and lining up headshots with the new guns. Of course everyone will like nazi zombies. I personally think Treyarch should be responsible for COD-Nazi Zombies and release a Nazi Zombie based game with a campaign and everything.

Well, that's my review. conclusion- Campaign is great, multiplayer lacks in my personal opinion, zombies are great=4/5. If you're a serious collector, go for the prestige and get your RC-XD like I did and let me know what you think of it. I really hope it was helpful to somoene, please vote and let me know whether is helped you out and leave any comments or questions and I'd be happy to promptly respond. Thanks everyone! Laptop Battery - replacement, toshiba laptop battery

For the past eight months, I have been using this battery as a replacement to the Toshiba battery that came with my laptop. It cost a fraction of the cost of the replacement battery offered by Toshiba, and seems to perform equivalently to the original. The charge lasts about 80 minutes, which is not as long as I'd like, but is no less than the charge held by the original Toshiba battery after eight months, and I did not want the bulk of a larger battery. It performs as expected; I am happy I did not pay the extra cost for the name brand. NEW Laptop Battery for Toshiba PA3534U PA3535U-1BRS PABAS098 pa3533u-1brs

I bought two batteries just in case they do not last very long and because I'm not sure how much longer I will have this laptop. The price is really great for the product. It doesn't fit perfectly, but it fits. The only thing that I don't like about this is that it takes a while to charge. I believe it took about an hour to fully charge the first time. I get 2 hours out of the charge and as a college student, two hours is enough. If you don't want to pay $130 from Toshiba, buy it. It's well worth it.

I expected this battery to deliver a better performance, but I was so disappointed. As a customer mentioned in another review, this battery does not fit perfectly, but it is OK. I want to return this battery since it takes about 10 hours to be fully charged. Needless to say that if you charge it while using your laptop, it will take even more time.

I should say that when I received the battery, it was carefully packed and it arrived promptly.

I had ordered a battery for them. I received the wrong battery after corresponding through email and returning the item. LapTop Mate contacted me via email and appologize that they had sent the wrong battery. They asked if I would like the correct battery and they sent it. The battery works great and priced great! I would recommend anyone ordering from them

For the price, this is a great replacement to your OEM Toshiba battery!

I bought this because the original battery with my laptop was slowly losing more and more life. After upgrading to Windows 7 it was graded by the OS as being ready to be replaced. Also, I was unfamiliar with proper care and feeding of a LiIon battery which I remedied by research on the internet. Read up on the subject to maximize your battery, especially if you purchase a replacement battery to a laptop you want to keep.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite A305 and this product fit the laptop perfectly.

My original battery was only lasting about 90 minutes after a full charge and this new one lasts 3 hours after a full charge and I couldn't be happier!

Excellent price and excellent seller.

The battery works great. It lasts about two hours and you can't beat the price. I was really nervous that an off brand would ruin my computer, but I've had this battery for about a month and I haven't had any problems. - Replacement - Toshiba Laptop Battery'

Ipod Touch Screen Protector

With several low-cost options for screen protectors, I ordered a few different kinds not knowing what to expect. Like some others, this one had roughly an equal number of one-star and five-star reviews. This protector, from TDC-Direct, was the first to arrive, so it was the first one I tried. The application instructions seemed self explanatory, so I did not bother with the on-line video. The firm, removable backing on both sides made proper alignment a snap. There was a couple of small bubbles at first, but they smoothed out easily. I am now getting great protection with no sign of peeling. Each protector even came with its own microfiber for pre-application cleaning. Considering I got three of these for less than two bucks including shipping, this is easily a five-star purchase for me. Three LCD Screen Guards / Protectors for Apple iPod Touch 4 / 4G / 4th Gen

Well I don't really know why all this people had trouble with this protector, but ill give my review! so it shipped in like 4days! When i got it I thought ''Well lets see if it works'' and so there was a paper with a youtube link on it just to HELP YOU and to apply this correctly, I followed the instructions and it worked! no bubbles, nothing! And it looks like it doesnt have any protector! so I recomend you to buy this one, at the end its just $1 and FOLLOW instructions! and you'll see no you wont get any bubbles and it will look great! I still have the first protector ON and I'll tell you that it will be there for a long time cause it just WORKED!

Nobody listen to the negative reviews. This product works fine...The reviews that bubbles appeared behind the protector are only evident of someone who does not know how to apply the protectors or does not have a clean screen to begin with. The screen has to be absolutly clear of any dirt or dust particles or it WILL leave little bubbles, so make sure the screen is completely clean before you apply. I cleaned my screen off very well and applied the protector from one corner to the opposite corner and i do not have one bubble...Fits perfect.

This product is alright. I purchased their screen protectors for my HTC Hero about 4 months ago, and am still on the first one (it doesn't have any scratches!). That being the case, I came back to them when I purchased an iPod Touch (4th gen). The screen protectors are still the same quality, still easy to put on and handle, but there is a second hole on the screen protector on the top right. It has a hole for the camera in the top center, and a hole for the button on the bottom center. I assume this third one is for something in the iPhone, but with this product being marketed towards the iPod, you would think they would alter it enough to properly cover the entire screen.

That being said, the hole is barely noticeable, and you can't see it at all in the images Amazon provides. It's still a good product, I was just surprised to find an extra opening in the product and didn't want other consumers to go through the same surprise.

Other than the fact that it took me two tries to get the screen lined up correctly with the holes, this was a really great product. The application was simple and i only had one bubble on the entire screen. The only advise i can give to make this product better for potential buyers is: Read the Instructions.

I read many of the reviews that were very neg. about this product. I am not sure what the problem was that they were having but it worked great for me. If I had no issues applying then anybody can do it. I know nothing when it comes to this stuff. Maybe they did not read the directions. I think for the money this was a great deal and worked as described.

I just thought that I would let people know that there is an extra hole to the right of the camera for a reason. Its actually the auto brightness sensor that can really only be seen in direct sunlight. I was confused by this too but i wouldnt let that discourage anybody from buying.

No instructions with the Guards. If you haven't put some on before, you will have to look up how to do it. Even so, I messed up the first one. The second one went on OK. They do seem to scratch easily. But for the price they are worth it as long as you expect to change them every so often.

Good product. The only thing I didn't like about it was the process of sticking it on the screen because it leaves you with a messing ending. It takes a litlle cleaning. Overall good product and would recommend to any one with Ipod touch 4

Good screen protectors for the low price they were at (Apple charges 10 times what I ended up paying this vendor). They're cut exactly to the iPod Touch's screen size and don't interfere with the operation of the device. The corners don't peel and the material doesn't scratch easily. What more can you ask?'

Dehumidifier Review - basement dehumidifier, dehumidifier review

This DeLonghi DD45P Dehumidifier is so far advanced over other dehumidifiers I have owned over the past 15 to 20 years, it is like a newly invented appliance for 2010.

It's the pump stupid! Why haven't all dehumidifiers been designed with automatic pumps from the get-go? Did appliance designers think that a homeowner would gladly trade a dry basement for the chore of emptying a bucket of water every day?

The initial set-up was relatively easy after I read the instructions twice. The controls are understandable and fairly intuitive.

This is a smart dehumidifier compared to the older manual dumbbells I have owned. The display reads your room temperature. The unit can be set on auto, to run until it brings the humidity level in percent numbers down to a level you decide. It can be set to run for a selected time period or just run continuously at one of its two different speeds, high and not quite as high. It has delayed start and delayed stop if desired. If you choose to not pump the condensate to a nearby drain or out the window, don't turn on the pump, and it will fill its built-in bucket instead. All this and energy star rated to boot.

The pump works well. The supplied condensate hose, which is 3/8" OD clear vinyl, runs up a corner wall in my basement about 8ft, then about 8ft more along the ceiling of my adjoining laundry room, and 4ft down into a laundry tub. I did have to add 8ft more hose to make the distance, but the pump handles it all very nicely. I bought this model for the pump and I consider this purchase as one of my better moves. It has been running 24/7 for about 6 weeks, and I just forget its there. My fingers are crossed.

The only negative features (in my opinion) are that the hose for the pump comes out the front of the unit near the base and the tiny wheels don't lift the unit high enough up off the floor to run the condensate hose under the unit towards the back so its not so visible. DeLonghi DD45P 45-Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier with Patented Pump

My current DeLonghi (40 pt) has gone on the fritz so I bought the newest model DD45P. The sensors on the old one (6 years old) have gone wacko, and the defroster (heater coil) seems constantly engaged, thereby pumping out super heated air... not good during the summer months here in the Northeast where 90 degrees+ has become the norm. The new DeLonghi arrived last week and has a more compact design than the old one, seems to be performing well, however, the 2 speed fan is problematic to me. DeLonghi should have stayed with the 3 speed fan as on the older models; that would REALLY have improved the "quiet" factor. Also the 24 hour timer feature is laughable... please, for this price, let me program more than one block of time. I love the pump, however, as an owner of a previous model who has taken the old one apart, be warned that what is growing inside the older unit has got to be unhealthy!!!! Yuk! If only replacement parts were made available at a reasonable price, my old one could be kept working! I need 2 for my large basement area, so I think I will be buying an additional one of a different brand to see if it performs any more efficiently and lasts longer!

The unit itself works great, except...

When I was researching dehumidifiers, the description of the DD45P said it has a 24-hour timer. I was under the assumption that I could program it, for example, to run for 8 hours, stop for 8 hours, run for 8, stop for 8, etc. In other words once I programmed it would maintain that cycle continuously until I turned off or changed the timer. My previous LG dehumidifier worked that way; I could program a continuous cycle. But not the DD45P. The program works for just once cycle; you have to reprogram it at the end of the cycle if you want it on timer again. And that's not the worst. You program it to start when the unit is in off mode; enter the number of hours after which you want the unit to turn on. However, to enter the number of hours after which you want it to turn off, you must wait until the unit turns on. You can only enter minimum increments of 1/2 hour for both on and off. So here's the scenario: Go down to the basement (where most people keep their dehumidifier), program it to start in 1/2 hour, go back upstairs, go back downstairs 1/2 hour later to program the turn off time. Repeat this daily or multiple times during the day if that's what you want. Of course you can run it without a timer; it then runs 24/7. But for energy-saving purposes a continuous timer would be nice.

The unit is very effective at removing moisture from the air. But the fan continues to run after the desired humidity is achieved. This in my mind is not very energy efficient. Also, the unit has a timer which you can only program the run time i.e. (turn the unit on. program the length of time you would like it to run and then it shuts off.It will not turn on again until you manually turn it on). I think a clock that you could program the on/off times would be a better feature.

Our old dehumidifier finally gave out and I selected this unit based on it's features. It seems quite powerful and quickly reduces the humidity level however there were a few features that were not quite clear from the online documentation. The old dehumidifier would get down to the selected level of humidity and then shut off but come back on as needed whenever the humidity level rose. This unit will run the fan the entire time which I find to be noisy and a waste of electric. The only way around this is to use the timer function which allows you to set a the amount of time the unit will run (i.e. 2 hours). This doesn't really seem ideal either since the humidity level could still be quite high when time runs out. Given the drawbacks, I still like the unit in that it really pulls out the humidity and I also like the pump feature which eliminates the need to manually empty the holding tank. - Efficient - Dehumidifier Review - Best Of The Best - Basement Dehumidifier'

Animation - blu-ray, animation

Why am I not surprised that there is someone reviewing this classic who trashes it as if they had never seen it and were offended by the cultural sensitivity issues that are part of the film. (See the Tallahassee reviewer titled "Do not purchase this video for children" January 21, 2003) For crying out loud, this script reflects what was normal at the time the film was first released. It's full of classic pieces that of course include a white dominated societal commentary on what was perceived as appropriate black cultural roots at that time. Is it outdated? Sure, so is nearly every other film from that era. Does this make it less of a classic? Absolutely not. In fact, this is the *real* Disney, long before it was sanitized for the Anaheim-Orlando crowd. Is the film inappropriate for a 21st century kid? That's a parental decision, but if you plan to shelter your child from the real history of the U.S., they will have a rude awakening (with all the accompanying psychoses) that you *won't* be able to control. My kids loved this film when they were very young.....we talked about the cultural issues by the time they were in school.....in fact, I distinctly remember them coming home to ask why some kids treated others so badly because of the color of their skin, their accents, etc. We used Dumbo to show them what used to be, was is today, and how to deal with it. And there was never a place where the original empathy of the film was lost on them. They have repeatedly made personal decisions and stood up against improper cultural slurs their entire lives (they are all either in college or their final years of high school now). I've been pleased with how they can see a cultural slur coming and are not willing to put up with any of the culturally "acceptable" ways of trashing others' ethnicity. Now, what about the film? This is a great Disney classic from the days when there was a full bodied, earthy smell to what they did. It's release in this format provides a historical window on American culture from the 1950s that is true and clear. It loses nothing in the 21st century translation and in fact, gains considerably from it's historical context. A great child's film that every adult needs to understand! Dumbo (Two-Disc 70th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack in Blu-ray Packaging)

Dumbo is a cinematic milestone and masterpiece of family entertainment. The storyline and characters are well rounded enough (just) to entertain adults and older children and the quality of the animation both holds children's attention and enables them to empathise with the principle characters. In addition, the moral of the story is well presented without being clumsily overstated as in much modern animation. Both my children have frequently watched this DVD (which first came out (without extras) in Europe in 1999) since they were one and both enjoy it imensely.I'm both astonished and disturbed that anyone could deem this movie unsuitable for children but can only assume they come from the same group of people who banned Robin Hood books from schools for being 'pro communist' and Shakespeare for being 'too explicit'!The 'drunken scene' is funny, brief and discrete (all you see is the shadows of characters through canvas). As to fast forwarding through the dream sequence for the kids' benefit because it is 'too long' that is verging on irresponsible. All doing so teaches a child is that it's OK to have a short attention span and to zoom through films to the 'interesting bits'. Perhaps I was wrong though and the moral of the story has been hidden too deeply "Persevere - Don't Give Up" is lost on some people.

Don't get me wrong, Dumbo is a great movie for kids and adults, one of Disney's greatest films but everything went wrong in this SO CALLED "Big Top Edition"

First of all, it isn't even a 2-disc set!

Most of the old "60th Anniversary Edition" bonus features are put on this DVD taking out some of the making, Dumbo II preview, and a music video. I do not understand Disnet AT ALL!

The new transfer IMO is WORSE then the "60th Anniversary Edition" It has no life to it, it is darker and very dull. Also you are losing 30% of the film do to an overscan! This movie was already filmed in fullscreen why do a pan and scan job to a fullscreen DVD? Come on Disney, you get enough money!

You really need this quick buck?

If you already have the "60th Anniversary Edition" DVD please stick with it! You get to see the WHOLE movie in full and the colors are brighter and you have ALL the great bonus features!

I don't know why Disney is doing this release, they have deleted some of the "Making Of" documentaries and bonus music videos that were on the "60th Anniversary Edition" DVD release.

The few extra shorts on this disc were also on the previous "60th Anniversary Edition" DVD.

Bottom line: Get the 30th Anniversary DVD release if you still can.

I grew up watching just about all of the Disney movies that have ever came out and now I'm 19 and can't wait for my kids to watch all the Disney films I still have, especially "Dumbo." I have one question, how can anybody not give "Dumbo" a perfect 5 stars? It defines classic in more ways than just about any other Disney film. It tells the classic story of friendship between Dumbo and Timothy the mouse. Dumbo eventually ends up back with his mom at the end of the movie. I could write a review on just about every Disney film that's ever been made, but Dumbo is the only one that I really like enough even now that I'm grown, to write a review of. It has some of the best classic songs and sounds from any of the Disney films and my favorite part of the movie is when Dumbo and the mouse get drunk and see all the pink elephants. "Dumbo" is what I would call a true classic in every way.

Although I love Dumbo I have to skip over some scenes that break my heart to this day...when he is taken away from his mother(because she came to his defense from some bullies) and Timothy mouse takes him to see her I cry EVERY time. Because they can't touch, she extends her trunk and he sits in it with his tiny trunk wrapped lovingly around hers as she swings him and "Baby Mine" starts...later he and Timothy inadvertently get drunk and "Pink Elephants on Parade" begins which is one of the best animated sequences in any of the Disney classics. At the time this was made some of the animators were having a wage dispute with Walt Disney and when the clowns sing "We're Gonna Hit the Big Boss for a Raise" they were sending him a message. Dumbo was supposed to be on the cover of Time magazine but it got bounced because of the breakout of World War II. The Crows are another one of the many high points of this remarkable feature. A must for any Disney library. - Animation - Blu-ray'

Upconverting Dvd Players - panasonic, netflix

I have been waiting for this Blu-ray player since it was announced in January, bought this to use with my Panasonic VIERA TV set. VIERA link is the main reason I bought this -- it's for our exercise room, and my wife hates all the remotes. Great as a basic DVD/blu-ray player. Pop in a DVD, TV turns on, and sets the correct input. Also, one button selection of Netflix works great, and the new Netflix interface includes search. On screen interface is also very nice and easy to use. As will all new players, only has HDMI and composite video connectors, but single HDMI for video and audio is nice and is required for VIERA link.

Only reason for the 4 stars is DLNA (which in not just an issue with this device). Writing this in the hopes of saving at least one person the hours I spent setting this up. First, with my Windows 7 PC, the device was able to see and play the Windows Media Center .wtv files (I have a TV tuner card in my PC), so you can record shows on your PC and watch them on this player in another room. Compatibility with .wtv files was not mentioned in the manual, nor by Panasonic online support. Panasonic support also said that .mkv files would only play via a disk or the usb, but some of my .mkv files on my PC did play using DLNA (for some reason, only the files with an aspect ratio of 1024X576 or higher will play). Decided I needed a media server.

After trying Tversity, Playon, and Serviio, none of which would work with the DMP-BD75, I installed Mezzmo on my PC. Worked like a champ! The player sees all the files on my PC and they play flawlessly over my home network.

Remote will only control TV volume, power, and input, so if you switch to TV, you have to switch remotes. Don't know why in TV mode the number keys couldn't function to enter a channel number. Still, the remote will control all disc functions, Netflix, and all my video files via DLNA. One thing with the remote and VIERA link, the large power button turns on the player and will also turn on the TV at the same time. However, when you power down, using the large power button only turns off the player (which does make sense, you may want to leave the TV on). There is a second power button for the TV. If you turn off that button, both with shut down.

Overall, for just under $100 you can't go wrong. And if you aren't interested in DLNA or 3D, then this would be a 5 star player. Panasonic DMP-BD75 Ultra-Fast Booting Blu-ray Disc Player

I've had this Bd75 for about a month now. When I first received it , I had problems. I mainly got this unit so I could stream Netflix movies, and wanted to have a Blu-ray player to connect to my Panasonic TC-L42U22 1080p LCD TV.

When the player chose to work, I was overwhelmed by the fantastic picture quality of this TV/Blu-ray combo. But, the Bd75 had bugs, and if you're like me, if something doesn't work as it should right out of the box, chances are things are only going to get worse.

I decided that the Bd75 was so good at streaming Netflix movies that I would keep it, bugs and all.

Now for the really good news. I turned the unit on a few days ago, and had a on-screen message that there was a firmware update available. Version 1.19 I let it download. It restarts itself after the download, and since then, NO bugs, freeze-ups, or any other problems.

If this firmware update does its job, then this Bd75 player will be a steal at the $99.00 it sells for.

Panasonic says this player won't support Amazon Video on Demand as it does not have VIERA Cast capability. There is currently no firmware update and they told me they don't expect to add this feature in the future either. It does support Netflix streaming.

I have since returned the DMP-BD75 and purchased a Panasonic DMP-BD65 with VIERA Cast. The DMP-BD65 works great and streams Amazon Video on Demand.

I'm not sure that a device that did not work out of the box deserves 4 stars but since it is 2011 and manufacturers can fairly rely on consumers having access to a hard-wired internet connection (ethernet cable, not wireless), I guess having to download the most current software is not reason enough to fail this device. When I first hooked up this Panasonic BlueRay with an HDMI cable, there was a crazy loud clicking noise instead of the expected audio. A quick read of the manual had me hooking this up to my Cisco Router and getting the most current download. Then it was smooth sailing and everything worked seamlessly. So, if you have some competence with your network then you should be fine - otherwise you might want to skip this item.

I've had this blu-ray player for a couple weeks now. Setup was quick and easy. Haven't tried DLNA yet, but Cinemanow, Vudu all work great. Streamed a hi-def episode of Stargate Atlantis from Netflix - AWESOME!! Another 5 Star product from Panasonic.

Firstly, I should state that I have extensive experience in AV as well as computer networking so this is not an issue of me not knowing what I am doing.

I purchased this unit after having excellent experiences with previous Panasonic BDP's. I've used many from the DMP-BD30 through to the BD100's and they've mostly been solid products. Unfortunately Panasonic seems to have let this one out of the gates too soon. The unit is nice and small, boots quickly but unfortunately has major issues with its network card and Internet connectivity in general. I have tried two different units and unfortunately both suffered from the same issue. The "easy network setup" says everything is working properly then I can only connect to netflix through this device about half the time (Netflix works fine when connecting through my Samsung TV). When trying to perform a firmware update, it will not connect at all. Panasonic support in Canada is atrocious and I cannot seem to find out for the life of me what the latest firmware version is (the players were both running v1.09). A search of their site shows that there are no downloads for the unit. I have ruled out it being an issue with my network as everything else works fine on it (including my Samsung player), I have completed extensive network tests and I have also tried this unit at a friends house with the same results. Hopefully this is a bug in the firmware and Panasonic is able to remedy this quickly. Until then, make sure you are able to easily return it if an issue arises! - Netflix - Blu-ray - 1080p - Panasonic'

Cordless Rotary Tools - multitool, cordless rotary tools

I've used Dremel tools for over 15 years now. I've mainly stuck with the corded ones, as the battery-powered versions tended to run out of charge quickly, had less RPM, were generally heavier and usually had a lot less torque. The lithium version has none of these drawbacks. Because there's no cord it's more comfortable to hold (and much more convenient to use!), about the same weight as a corded model, and has plenty of RPMs and torque. Battery lifetimes are very good, and the "fuel gauge" seems to be reasonably accurate. (Exactly how long a charge will last depends greatly on what you're using it for--working on balsa wood uses a lot less power than, say, grinding metal.)Battery charge times are quite short, about three hours to charge a completely empty battery. (But thanks to a "smart charger" it should only take a few minutes to charge it after a typical job.) An added bonus is that lithium batteries hold their charges practically forever, so there's no need to "trickle charge" them; just charge it back up after you're done with it and put it away, and it'll be ready to use the next time you need it.The only nit I've found so far is the need to remove the battery to charge it. (This is probably for safety's sake.) It'd be slightly more convenient to just put the whole unit in the charger after use, but since it doesn't need charging that often this is really minor.I'd consider this to be an entirely practical replacement for a corded Dremel. For everything I use my Dremel for (mostly small models plus the occasional home repair task) this one seems more than adequate. It's a sturdy unit that should last a long time.My one concern about lifetime is how long the lithium battery will last; only time will tell. Dremel 8000-03 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool

I've been using Dremels for a long time and always wanted a decent cordless. With the advent of decent cordless power tools (the first one that I had that was actually useful for something was an 18 volt DeWalt drill that went right through stuff my corded drills wouldn't touch, but that's another story) I've been waiting for Dremel to come out with a good cordless.I've been hesitant about the earlier cordless Dremels but this one looks like "it".So far it's done everything I've asked it to do but I haven't asked it to do much--I got it specifically to deal with a piece of acrylic that my cordless Rotozip melted instead of cutting--I figured the adjustable speed on the Dremel would take care of that and was right.Just an aside about stalling--if you're stalling a Dremel then it's time to take a good hard look at a Rotozip, which, if you've never played with one, is kind of a Dremel on steroids--Dremel has an equivalent, the "Advantage", but only the one model and not cordless. The lack of a provision to charge the battery with the tool attached is just carrying through the current practice with cordless tools--it's assumed that one will have two batteries, one on the tool and one on charge if this is an issue. There's space in the case for a second battery.A "gotcha" to be aware of with the lithium ion batteries, always store them charged--if they self-discharge below a certain point a protective circuit kicks in and they disable themselves--this is a safety issue--trying to recharge a lithium ion battery that is discharged below a certain point can result in an explosion (I'm not talking about a little spill--exploding lithium batteries in emergency-locator transmitters have brought down light aircraft). The bundled accessories are, near as I can figure it:Aluminum oxide stone #932 and #8193Silicon carbide stone #84922Aluminum oxide abrasive wheel #5412 rubber polishing wheels #4253 Large felt polishing wheels #4295 Small felt polishing wheels #4141 cutter, looks like a #1811 drill bit, #1501 Mandrel #401 (for felt pads etc)1 Mandrel #402 (for sanding disks, cutoff wheels etc)Sanding cylinder mandrels 1/4" and 1/2"4 80 grit 1/2" sanding cylinders3 120 grit 1/2" sanding cylinders4 80 grit 1/4" sanding cylinders3 120 grit 1/4" sanding cylinders11 sanding disks17 cutoff wheels, 3 are thicker than the others, the others are in two containers of 10 and 4 but can't tell any difference between them.1 wrench with screwdriver tip that fits screws on mandrels1 case with a good deal of unused storage even after all the accessories are stored.

Mine is utilized for robotics projects--it finds a lot of uses with metal. I also bought the press accessory with it. This little accessory helps me make straight cuts and drill holes.I'm telling you, I use this thing constantly and it works like a champ! It is powerful enough for me to cut all my brass and aluminum with the precision of that of a doctor. For as handy as this tool is--I'd pay twice as much to get one if need be. I've had mine for 5 months too.One HUGE word of advice. WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES! I know this may sound lame, but it saved my @ss!!! When cutting some tubing, my disk exploded at full RPM's and the shrapnel hit me in the goggles. (Of course I had my fat head over top of it while I was cutting) Just be careful. The tool is A+, but the little thing could be dangerous if you slack on the safety.

I bought one of these at a local brick & mortar store for a project I'm working on. I am impressed with the power of the device and it is a really neat tool, but unfortunatley I've already had to return two of them for a defective speed control. While using it, the first one all of a sudden just jumped up to full speed and stayed there regardless of where the speed control was set. In other words, it was no longer variable. The second one did the same thing. Since I saw replacement brushes available for their tools (and therefore they must consider it somewhat user serviceable) I decided to open it up and see what it looked like inside. One of the transistors on the circuit board had gotten warm enough to melt the solder and shorted out two of the pins on the transistor. I'm on my third one now (just returned them at the store) and I first bought one about 2-1/2 weeks ago. Great tool but Dremel needs to work on their quality control. - Multitool - Lithium-ion - Cordless Rotary Tools - Cordless'

When I first starting couponing, years ago, I really disliked it. I felt like it was a complete Waste of my time for the little bit of money, I was saving. I would get my Sunday paper, clip all of the coupons out and sort them in my a cheapy cardboard organizer. Then I would head out to the grocery store and use a $0.50 coupon for butter that wasn't on sale but, hey, I saved $0.50, Right... I would use this same method for several items in the store & complete my shopping trip with a whopping savings of $10 maybe $20. Really just $20, in my mind, I thought why would I spend so much time clipping coupons. When I can save more money and time at the $1 store. So I gave up, which lead me to begin, an on again, off again, relationship with coupons. In the end, it was all just to frustrating to me. Does this story sound a little familiar to you?

It may be a different scenario for every new couponer. But all roads lead to that same place and often times you end up, just giving up. Extension Cable - audio cable, headphone cable

I needed an extension because my headphones were too short to fit into my speakers. I looked at a lot of other extension reviews, and the main flaws of most of the extensions were that the wires would break or the sound quality would be greatly diminished afterwords. The majority of the reviews for this extension seemed positive so I decided to get it. This extension is great, you can walk around your room, or walk on the treadmill with increased mobility without a reduction in sound quality or loudness.

I haven't had a it long enough to know how long it might last before it may break down. So far I've had it for about a month plus a week, and there are no cracks in the wire, or any change in the quality, and I use for hours a day. Compared to other extension products I've seen this is a good buy for it's price and it's functionality. Cables To Go 40406 3.5 mm Male/Female Stereo Audio Extension Cable, Black (3 Feet/0.91 Meters)

This extension is just what I was looking for. I needed to have a long extension in order to connect my earphones to my PC and it is at about 1.50 m. from my head so the cable of my earphones was veryu short. I've been using it for a month and it works flawlesly

I bought this cable to replace the extension on my Shure earbuds. I would not reccommend it. The cable is much more rigid than the one that came with my earbuds, which causes it to work its way into loops instead of just laying flat. It is really annoying. The connectors also don't appear to be very good quality. I constantly get static in my earbuds if the plug twists around in the earphone socket of my Zune.

When I first received the 12 foot extension cable, I was very happy with it. The sound quality is only minimally affected. However, within a month and a half, it only works at certain angles. I cannot hold the cord in place whenever I want to listen to music. Don't waste your money, unless you plan to replace it every couple of months.

Here's an honest reveiw:

Really like the length and look of the extender, only problem is that after the

second day I used it, the right channel wouldn't work for any speakers or head phones that I'd use it with (even with cleaning and adjusting position of jack).

Fortunately I went rumaging through my old audio equipment and found my old extender which is only half as long and doesn't have as appealing of a look, but it does work after 4 YEARS of use (same cost range too).

Only 2 days of working compared to 4 years of working makes me give this product

the lowest possible review rating.

I broke the extension on my Bose headphones so I bought this as the replacement. It's ok, but it doesn't fit very well into my iPod when it has the case on it. The plastic around the extension is thick so it blocks that area. The sound is ok though, not overly excited about it but not disappointed either. It works and it's affordable!

I take the cable out of the package, plug my headphones into it and then plug the other end into my iPhone. The sound volume is much lower than if I was not using it. If I move the cable at all, there will be crackles and maybe only one channel will work. I suspect a short or a cold solder. This cable is only good for the trash.

This is the second cable I have used for extending earphones to reach my TV. My first one has worked for 1 year and ended up with one side of ears shut down, So I brought this cable. I found this new one is defective--making hiss noise on and off, and one ear is louder than the other, which really freaked me out. I am sure it is not because of my earphones or TV set, because they are working fine without the extension cable. My suggestion is that they still need a quality control while making this simple gedgets. - Audio Cable - Audio - Headphone Cable - Cable'

Electrical Equipment - surge suppressors, apc

First off, I can't say anything about the ability of this device to protect against surges b/c I haven't done any tests on it. However, if you believe the specs (and it seems like the Tripp Lite ones are more honest and thorough than most other brands), it provides a good deal of protection for a surge protector/suppressor in this price range.

I chose this particular model because of the many positive reviews on other models. My first and only experience with Tripp Lite was back in 2000. The surge protector worked well and provided a good user experience in that it's fairly easy to push the plugs in and pull them out and has 3 useful indicator lights. Also, the plastic has a good feel to it. I'm still using it today. I'm glad to see the reviews for Tripp Lite's other products are generally good. Also, if you spend as much time as I did, the positive reviews seem to be based more off of substance/experience than just subjective guesses.

Well, my next step was to look up the specs. The Tripp Lite website was very thorough. At one point, I was down to three Belkin surge protectors and 3 Tripp Lite ones. The Tripp LIte website had all the technical info I was looking for while the Belkin website was lacking in specification details. Go read up on what's important when looking to buy a surge protector (e.g., energy absorption; clamping voltage; response time, etc.) and you'll care more about the specs. Amazon's product descriptions lack these details and that's okay, but it's not okay for the mfr's website to lack this detail. So, I decided to go with the Tripp LIte products. Oh, Tripp Lite keeps advertising the # of transformers. It does matter b/c in some other brands/models, some plugs are disabled and will not allow for use of all the plugs. Read some of the bad reviews on the other products if you don't believe me.

Now it's time to choose the model I want. Originally, I was going to go with the Tripp Lite TLP810SAT's sister product that comes with an ethernet line connector instead of the coaxial connector. However, once I figured out that I'll never use ethernet surge suppression b/c this is for residential use and that I have FiOS, which uses a coaxial cable connection, I decided to go with this model. Also, don't be misled that all coaxial cable connections are the same. Only one set of coaxial cable connections on this surge protector is specifically designed for high bandwidth broadband use (see the Tripp Lite website and compare the specs for different models). If I only had cable internet, I wouldn't have cared so much, but because I have a FiOS connection, I decided not to take the chance. Also, for a few dollars more than the other version, I don't see any reason to pass up on this model. Finally, if I did end up having FiOS and some other connection that requires a coaxial cable, I'm all set. So, I rather pay a little more for this model than the other model that has an ethernet connection that I'll never use.

Now for the negative. The packaging had a little wrinkling in it, while the box it shipped in was okay. Also, there's no way to tell if this thing is new or used b/c the packaging is not sealed. One or two of the plug covers were in the open position as well. It's annoying that I don't know for sure if I received a brand new product, but it does have a lifetime warranty, so it's not really a big concern. Overall, I'm fine with this product. Tripp Lite TLP810SAT 8-Outlet Surge Protector (3240 Joules, Tel/DSL/Coax)

When it comes to outlet taps and surge protectors, you get what you pay for. Pay a little extra and get a good one (like this one). This is a very good unit for the money and should give many years of service and protection. I don't regret buying it, and I spent a great deal of time researching these types of units.

Have a 42" Plasma, DVD Player, VCR, DVR, Powered Surround Subwoofer & PC plugged into this thing and have had several power surges since I started using it and have experienced ZERO damage to any of my equiptment. It is well built with solid construction and the layout allows plenty of space for oversized power adapters.

This is the third TLP810SAT I have purchased. I liked the first two I purchased, that when I wanted to protect my latest flat screen TV, I bought the third. Very happy with it and would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a practical and very functional protectr, rugged cord and very well built.

This Surge has all the necessary outlets and is of a solid build quality. I've read that Tripp Lite makes quality products on many audio forums and I can attest that this product is as good as Monster products for less (especially on Amazon). Anyone in need of a Surge protector for their computer, TV, sound system should defintely look at Tripp Lite. I have used Belkin products in the past that I have been very happy with also. Please stay away from Monster products. - Apc - Power Strip - Surge Suppressors - Power Surge'

Digital Answering Machine - corded speakerphone, answering machine

This AT&T Answering System CL4939 was easy to set up and I love the large buttons and large desplay screen. I was also pleased with volume control for listening and speaker. The only problem is that there is no battery backup for the time and date clock and we lose power a lot. However, the directory listing of stored phone numbers is never lost so I can live with this. Overall I would recommend it for people who need a wired/corded system. AT&T White Corded Digital Answering System (CL4939)

This phone works just like a phone should - clear sound. I like that it uses A/C power and not batteries. Easy to use speed dial and directory updates. Display is big and easy to read, and the tilt helps too. I've only had this for a few weeks now, but so far, so good.

I got this telephone in August 2007, for less than it was then available at Amazon. For some weeks, it seemed fine.

But my previous two AT&T phones were not so hot. On both models, the caller id LCD screens died within two years of purchase. And on the previous model, with a built-in answering machine, there were two other problems as well. The digital voice recorder went kafflooey, and was barely audible after a couple of years. Worse, the calls could not always be answered immediately, as the receiver button became quite temperamental too.

On this one, the number buttons sometimes stick, making for extra long dialing tones that stop only when one fiddles with the button edge. Additionally, the directions to enter numbers into phone memory, and even to record an answering message, are overly complex.

While this model cost about half what I paid for the last AT&T office speaker phone model, I'm not a huge ATT fan.

This phone is just okay. And I am pretty sure I've bought my last AT&T phone.

In answer to a request for other phone brand options, I'm more pleased with my RCA 2 Line Speakerphone. It has a lot of bells and whistles I do not use. And the speaker does not always transmit the greatest sound quality. But the caller ID screen has held up nicely, the price has come way down, and the phone is generally more sturdy than the AT&T brand items I've purchased before --- including this model.

All I want to say is that I have had this phone for about 2-3 weeks now and I like it. Big buttons for dialing, built-in digital answering machine, and one feature I consider the most important, hands-free speaking via the built-in speakerphone. No complaints here. I might buy another one for matching phones. I like corded telephones. You never have to worry about the batteries dying on you.

I had been using an old corded GE speakerphone for years. I use this phone for work so liked the fact that it would still work without AC power. My only gripe is that it required 4 AA Batteries to operate the caller ID and speakerphone. So I decided to replace it finally and chose this phone. My favorite feature is I have 3 individual slider bars on the right side of the phone that individually control speakerphone volume, handset volume, and ringer volume. Tilt screen is wonderful and has a large easy to read display. Its not backlit but that is ok. I like that you can enable the speakerphone easily with 1 button. On my hold phone I had to place the call on hold, hang up the phone, then press speaker. On this one you just push speaker and hangup. To revert to handset just pick it up. There is individual lighted mute button as well. Unfortunately I can't comment on the answering machine as I'm not utilizing it. My only negative at all on the phone are the number buttons. They are flush with the phone and you don't get a lot of feedback when pressing them so its kind of hard to feel if your presses have registered. They somewhat stick slightly. Not a huge issue but with all the other wonderful features on the phone I didn't expect this to be an issue. Even though this phone uses ac power, you can still operate the phone with no power but only minimal functionality will be available. All in all a very solid phone.

This is a very good product for my purposes. It has all the bells and whistles most folks could want. After seeing it on the net, I bought one at Wal-Mart. Later, I found the same phone on Amazon for $10 less w/free shipping. Sorry about that, Wal-Mart!

This phone has a decent speakerphone which is why I bought it, so that does make me happy. It has a very good answering machine and alerts you with a frequent beep and a flashing light. Since I keep it in another room I'm happy it has the beep. The Caller ID works well and the display appearance is decent. However, there is one drawback and that is that the phone does not have a battery back-up (no power or batteries) which is nice unless you have a power failure! We seem to have our fair share of these and therefore our phone flashes "set clock" most of the time! It keeps the memory of stored phone numbers however. I'm giving it a 3 because of the set clock issue as it really should have a battery or a short term memory after a power failure. If you don't have many power failures - you'll like this item I think. - Corded Telephones - Answering Machine - Caller Id - Corded Speakerphone'
