Animation Blu-ray - automotive, mater

For those of you who do not have the Disney Channel, Mater's Tall Tales are five minute CGI animated shorts based on characters from Pixar's Cars. They are about the tow truck, Mater, regaling his friends on his numerous (and outrageously unrealistic) adventures such as meeting a UFO, being a world famous bullfighter, professional wrestler or daredevil, and other crazy situations. These shorts always fall back on the same joke where Lightning McQueen challenges Mater's tale as being true and Mater replying with, "Don't you remember? You was there too", which ends with McQueen being in the thick of the tall tale.

The animation quality is on par with the movie. Plus you get appearances of other Cars characters like Sally, Red, Mia and Tia and more. They even get just about all of the original actors to do the voiceovers with the notable exception of Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen (replaced by veteran voice talent Keith Ferguson). All in all a fun little cartoon to fill time between shows on Disney.

This Blu-Ray collects all of the shorts ever released and a couple that haven't come out yet. This totals nine cartoons, so it's not exactly a large amount of content at about 40 minutes. You do, however, get about 50 minutes of additional features to whet your whistle. Here's a list of the bonus stuff:

Paths to Pixar - Similar featurette to the ones on other Pixar collections this has interviews with Pixar artists, editors and such and gives insights on their experiences and other career details.

Studio Stories: McQueen Has No Hands - The challenges of manipulating a map when your character doesn't have any hands.

Mater: Bumper to Bumper - Goes into detail about the creation of Mater and how he is animated.

Making of Mater's Tall Tales - Self Explanatory. Documentary on creating the Mater shorts from conception to finished product.

Unmade Tales - Some of the ideas that didn't make it to production. Each one has an intro by Director Rob Gibbs and are pitched by the story artist. Tales include Runway Mater, Stunt Mater, Backwards to the Forwards, Car-nival and Import Mater.

Cars Toons Story Reels - Mater the Greater, Unidentified Flying Mater and Mater Private Investigator all shown in their conformed storyreels shown against the final audio track. You also have a picture in picture option to see both the reel and the finished product.

Cars Land Sneak Peek - Just as it says you get to see the upcoming Disney California Adventure attraction Cars Land. Mainly behind the scenes stuff.

If you love the movie Cars and/or the Mater shorts then of course this is the disk for you. Makes me wonder if they will re-release the Toy Story Treats that were done in 1996 somewhere on a Blu-Ray collection. Just keep in mind you are paying for about 90 minutes of content including all of the bonus features. It's a short disk. Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales (Two Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

And Much More!

I bought this movie for my 4 yr old son's birthday. I specifically checked the run time of 90? minutes. Sunday he was watching it for the first time and before I got dinner ready it was over. I was like "Why did you turn it off?" Everyone said it's over. Do you really think my kids gonna be entertained by 1 hour of "out takes?" Um..No. Mater is funny don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't have bought it had I known the actual movie time is 38 minutes. :( HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! - Disney - Automotive - Mater - Blu-ray'

Card Making - postcards, greeting cards

Cards were easy to use, after alignment was set properly. Images were crisp and sharp on finished product. When separated there were no ragged edges. Love them and would recommend them for homemade cards that look professionally made. Avery Personal Creations Textured Heavyweight Note Card and Envelopes, 4-1/4 x 5-1/2, 50 per Box (3379)

. . . for creating a brilliantly colored greeting card on your ink jet printer. This card stock is heavy-weight and has a matte coating on both sides -- no bleeding through on your back-to-back printed cards. The new chroma-based inks -- or other high-quality inks developed by your printer manufacturer -- works perfectly on this stock. I tend to use large areas of color in many of my card projects and I love the rich colors that I am able to show off with these cards. Years ago, 3M was producing some of the best card stock for greeting cards. Their top-of-the-line stock was coated and it gave great results. After 3M left the printing materials market, it was impossible to find coated stock due to environmental concerns. I am so glad paper manufacturers were able to resolve any issues with the coating material. Avery, my new Canon PIXMA printer, and an almost OK greeting card software package help me to produce some very nice products; thanks Avery.

I bought these note cards for my mother so she could make baby shower invites for me. They ended up technically beyond her level (not because it's at all hard, there are templates and everything, but because her technical level pretty much extends to freecell and e-mail) so I made the invites. They turned out great - I used a template in Publisher (because I'm familiar with publisher) but I believe you can get them in word and probably google documents too. Printed really well and went out in the mail.

I bought this product because it was the only note-card stationary I would get overnight with prime.

I was dismayed to find the paper was much thinner than expected and that it came in perforated sheets. The perforations and thickness of the paper make a less than impressive stationary.

Pros: Good for do-it-yourself cards. Ideal for printing out multiple cards at once. Includes envelops

Cons: A bit 'cheap' for important Thanks Yous, Invitations. The heavyweight in the description is false advertising. It's medium-weight at best.

I design and print note cards and I order these Avery Note Cards from Amazon. Currently, they have been selling them for a good price compared to office supply stores in my town. I have used these cards for several years and am very pleased with them.

These notecards have nice texture and color that print attractive cards. The drawback is the lack of templates and page setups for my verson of Microsoft Publisher (2003). I create original designs with Publisher. To print on these notecards, I have to go through a tedious process to transfer the images to Word, which does work with this Avery product. Microsoft Publisher is a popular software for making greeting cards and note paper, and Avery is a popular brand of blank papers. They should work together. Maybe this has been corrected with a later version of Publisher. Also sometimes the envelopes do not seal well. But I like the cards enough to put up with their shortcomings.

I design my own cards of all sorts. These note cards are great for

invitations, thank you notes, etc. They are very easy to work with

and I have been doing this for about 10 years and love every minute of

it. Avery puts out a very good product. - Blank Cards - Greeting Card Paper - Postcards - Greeting Cards'

Usb Wireless Adapter

I own a computer that utilizes Windows Vista (64 bit) and was not having success installing wireless adapters from two reputable companies. At this point I was ready to cut open walls and run the ethernet cable to my computer. I mentioned the problem to my computer geek cousin and he told me to purchase a medialink wireless adapter as it supports Windows Vista 32 and 64. So I googled the wireless adapter and found that Amazon carried it. So I went to Amazon.com and there it was in the medialink adapter's product information, compatible with Vista 32 and 64. At $29.99 ( $10.00 cheaper then the previous two adapters), I thought it was worth the risk. I recieved it two days later and proceeded to install the medialink wireless G USB adapter and again no success. At this point I'm ready to punch a hole in the wall out of frustration. I finally decided to contact Mediabridge to convey my dissatisfaction. The phone was picked up after one ring and a customer service person rerouted me to technical support. Technical support picked up after one ring and I'm thinking to myself, this is amazing, no machine telling me to push buttons. After running several test on my computer with technical support, I still was not wireless. The tech support person, who was professional and knowledgable, recommended trying their wireless-N USB adapter. He said Mediabridge will ship it out right away at no cost. I received the wireless-N adapter the following day (again, amazing). I install it and within five minutes I was wireless. The installation was a snap. I'm on the internet several hours a day and I haven't had any problems at all. I forget sometimes that I'm wireless. At the price Mediabridge is charging for their wireless adapters, this is a steal. Kudos to Mediabridge for backing their products and lowering my blood pressure. I recommend this product to anyone who wants a quality wireless adapter at a great price. Medialink - Wireless N USB Adapter - 802.11n - 150Mbps - 2.4ghz - Windows 2000 / XP / Vista 64-Bit /128-Bit Windows 7 Compatible

I purchased this adapter with high hopes that it would somehow magically work with my Western Digital WD TV Live, despite my knowing that it was an unrealistic expectation since the dongle comes with it's own drivers. At best, I was expecting to have to run some home-brewed firmware on the WD TV in order to get this to work.

Lo and behold, I plugged it in and it was recognized within seconds. In under a minute, the box was connected to my network and I was streaming YouTube video to my upstairs bedroom. I was absolutely amazed.

This dongle is not yet listed on WD TV Live's supported device list, and I've found no previous posts or reviews confirming this compatibility. Hope this helps those looking at this for the same reason that I was.

I recently added Mac OS X to my Windows Dell Mini 9. I had replaced the WiFi card in the Mini with an Intel 5300 which is great, but there's no Mac OS support. So I was on the lookout for an inexpensive USB adapter that supported OS X and Windows - if it was wireless N also, that would be a bonus. A couple of weeks ago when I started this search, I came up empty, but this time I found the Medialink adapter, which claimed to support Windows, OS X and Linux. I decided to give it a try.

When I received it I was upset to see that the packaging claimed support for Windows only, and the Medialink web site has only Windows drivers. But the instruction leaflet says that OS X and Linux drivers are on the CD and sure enough, they are.

Medialink claims that this is one of the smallest Wireless N USB adapters and I believe them - it's half the size of an Actiontec adapter I recently reviewed.

I first tried it under Windows 7. The driver installed nicely and the adapter worked, though I found the configuration utility confusing and could not figure out how to use WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). I did manage to create a profile typing the WPA2 key by hand and that worked. The signal strength was somewhat lower than the Intel card (with its three antennae in the netbook lid), which was understandable. Speed was excellent, though. Note that this is a 2.4GHz only adapter - 5GHz is not supported.

I then tried OS X. The CD contains drivers for several earlier versions of OS X, but not 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I tried the 10.5 driver and the installation appeared to hang after a while. However, when I rebooted and inserted the adapter, everything seemed to work. This time I managed to figure out how to use WPS and it connected with my router without problems. Unlike with an AirPort or some Apple-supported device, there's no indication in the menu bar that there's a connection, but the "Ralink Wireless USB" utility that launches when the adapter is connected confirmed it was there.

Medialink also includes a rather large desktop base with a hefty USB cable attached, should you want to use it. I tried it and it did work.

Pros: Support of Windows, OS X and Linux (I suppose - I didn't try Linux), compact size, good performance

Cons: Confusing configuration utility

Edit: December 29, 2010

I noticed that the Amazon description no longer mentions Linux and Mac support, so I called Medialink to ask what's up. I was told that they found the market for the adapter on Linux/Mac OS smaller than they thought and they didn't have expertise in those operating systems, so they no longer advertise Mac and Linux support. However, drivers for those ARE still on the CD and if they get any newer driers from Ralink (the chipset vendor), they'll pass them on (on the web site, I assume.) I still recommend this adapter for Mac OS users, but be prepared to be "on your own" if you're using Mac OS or Linux. (And sorry, I can't provide support either!)

There are many horror stories of people trying to get their wireless adapters working with Windows 7 64 bit, this is one of those stories, but with a happy ending, eventually. I was looking for a new wireless adapter for my wife's computer, as the old one suddenly stopped working one day. It would sometimes resurrect itself like some little zombie, but would eventually return to it's grave, one time finally for good. Upon inspecting the fallen soldier I noticed some teeth marks in the plastic body. I believe that one of our cats had decided it to a chew toy. Hmmm. My wife's computer uses Windows 7 64 bit for it's OS. Having finally found an adapter that was receiving reviews of actually working with said operating system, I was willing to give it whirl since the price was right. Many devices on the market, wireless adapters in particular, "claim" to work with Windows 7, but upon further inspection they are only "compatible" or worse yet, just outright lying to your face that it'll work. The adapter finally arrives in the mail! Some reviewers claimed that you didn't need to use the install CD, just plug that little puppy into the usb port and it'll be right as rain. While I wanted to believe that, I used the CD anyhow. Didn't work. Make sure I read them right, for a Windows 7 install, didn't work. Checked the box the adapter came in, I don't see Windows 7 listed on the outside of the box; Windows 2000, XP and Vista but no Windows 7 listed on the box. Went back to instructions again. Yep, right there, they do say Windows 7 in the instructions, don't say if it's 32 or 64 bit, but Windows 7 none-the-less. I tried numerous ways of installing it, including several ways listed by other reviewers. Nothing was working. But when I checked the status of the device I did see that it was receiving some packets from the router, but that was about it. How could all of those other reviewers be wrong, especially the ones saying it working on their computer using Windows 7 64 bit? Maybe they wrong, maybe they thought they had 64 bit, but it was really 32 bit. Suddenly a little light went on over my head. Maybe it was a software conflict of some sort that was puking the install. I did an uninstall of the software, ensured it was removed from the device manager and rebooted the computer in "safe mode". Once I was logged on in safe mode, I "plugged the wireless adapter into the usb port" BEFORE installing the software. The software was installing, and I could see the USB light flickering like crazy and my hopes were high. Hmmm, why isn't the install finishing up? I waited and waited but the install seemed to be hung. Noooooo! I ended up aborting the install via task manager, but it must have been at a point where it was really done, but just couldn't finish up for some reason, as the wireless software was working fine now and I was able to connect to my router! Yipeee! Did another re-boot to get out of safe mode, and it still works just fine. Hope this helps someone else.'

Firepit - firepit, outdoor fireplace

Super simple to set up AND use. Great valve allows for low flame or full flame. Becomes the center attraction at the camp site. Breaks the chill on a cool night and no smoke from a wood fire. When we are done we just put on the cap and right back in the box it came from. Very easy to store and travel with. Fire Dancer Portable Gas Campfire And/or Patio Fireplace with Ceramic Log Kit

We're Very pleased with this little campfire, it hooks right up to a regular size propane tank (not limited to those tiny ones that nobody ever has around) and it creates a warm, cozy ambience virtually Anywhere. Patio, beach, porch, it's portable and easy to carry, with its own handle, that easily screws onto the base without having to touch anything hot. It's the best price for one of these, and we plan to build a stone table around it this Winter for patio parties even when it's cold outside. The stones that are optional for it have been reprted to be kind of cheesy, so we're going to get the real stones. Later we might get the log insert, but it really doesn't need it. They sell "fire pit glass" rocks on eBay, and we might get some of those later for the colors.

Poole & Sons are the distributors for this item, and they're extremely good to work with, great communication and prompt shipping. We couldn't be happier with our new Fire Dancer Campfire, and we Highly recommend it for everyone who loves a small campfire on chilly nights, but can't deal with smoke, hunting for wood, endless fire re-stoking, and flying embers. This thing is Awesome!

First of all, this gas campfire was shipped to me incredibly fast! As in, I ordered in on a Monday and received it on Wednesday! Now, the shipper is located only a state away, so that may explain it, but still...

I've used it around 5 times so far and it works great. We made smores with it and just generally enjoyed a campfire while camping in a place that doesn't allow wood fires.

It's small, but very easy to transport. The lids screws right down over everything and you can carry it by the lid handle. I also ordered the grill to use with it and that works fine too.

All in all, I'm glad I ordered it.

I looked at patio fires for a long time, some are $3,000! I ordered the firedancer, because it is 14 inches in diameter and will fit on my covered deck. I got the log set for the top, it really looks better with it. It is beyond what I expected. It does not get hot on the bottom. It crackles a bit like a fire, and the flames do dance and leap just like they say. I love it. It would be great for camping. It looks good even turned way down. The lid fits on nicely even with the log set. I recommend using a particle mask when handling the vermiculite. But the whole thing comes complete. You do have to buy a regular propane tank, they are about $25. We use it near our propane BBQ, and just switch it over when we use it. Keeps you warm as well. I love toasting marshmallows over it. I do not recommend cooking with it. It would be very messy to clean, requiring changing out the vermiculite. So, it is for: ambience, warmth, and toasting marshmallows. What more do you need?

Use it at campgrounds all the time. Everyone likes it, wants to know how to get it. Lots of heat when on high. Just note if you turn off the gas, it takes time for fire to go out. Lots of gas in hose, so just make sure it's set on stable surface and let fire burn completely out before stowing it! - Outdoor Fireplace - Firepit'

Heart Rate Monitor Watch

This is my fourth HRM and by far the best. The display is big and very readable even in dim light without using the indiglo. My last two HRMs were the older model Timex Ironman 100 lappers. They became very unreliable even with new batteries. I used to have to use electrode gel just to get them to work at all. This HRM gives me an accurate reading immediately and continues to do so as my heart rate changes during my workout. It works great even without electrode gel. It doesn't have any fancy features but I don't need them. It does record your time in the zone that you can set and you average and peak heart rates. It also has a recovery time feature that measures how many BPM your HR drops in one minute. The sensor belt will also work with the HR display most treadmills and other indoor machines. This HRM has already improved my training significantly because it is so accurate and responsive. I highly recommend it. Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch

If you are looking for a heart monitor which is easy to use and very accurate this is the one for you. I am 53 y.o. in cardiac rehab. A similar Timex model was one of the HR monitors recommended by the rehab staff. However after much comparison shopping, this monitor had additional features including calorie counting, target heart rate beep which you activate if you want it on and indigo light. The strap is very light and comfortable. It is also extremely accurate and it comes with a user replacement battery. I just love it.

I was looking for a heartrate monitor to track not only my aerobics workouts but also my weight training workouts. I wanted a wireless monitor with a large enough display so it was easy to read (yes, I've joined the reading glasses population). I needed to be able to replace the batteries myself, and it would be nice if it could tell time in case I wanted to use it as a watch.

The Timex met all my needs and at a very good price. I was a bit concerned because I have a 54" chest and a fairly large wrist. I was also concerned because the packaging is not specific about whether it has a coded signal so that it does not pick up other heartrate monitor signals. The chest strap fits me well but if my chest gets too much larger, it's going to be a bit snug. The wrist band also fits but it's in the last hole, and so far, I haven't picked up anyone else's monitor or bled over onto anyone else's cardio machines.

I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

This is my first heart rate monitor, and I really couldn't be happier with it. The watch displays your heartbeat in real time with the little heart icon on the face. It recalculates every two seconds. It's simple to program it to your weight and target heart rate (just read the instructions), and the 'recall' button tells you all you want to know - time in your target zone, average heart-rate, estimated calories burned, etc.

Previous reviewers have said that they don't like not being able to see the time of day when the watch is in heart-rate mode. If you press the 'set' button it displays the time.

I'm in the process of burning off about 25 lbs of excess fat this summer. I'm cycling across the USA in my living room. This monitor is a very helpful tool for maximizing my cardio sessions. It's accurate, it makes workouts more fun and it lets me know when I have to get moving a little faster.

There's been a significant price increase since I bought this monitor (I paid $44 three weeks ago, now it's listed at $69?). But if I had it to do over, I'd still go with the Timex over the cheaper, lesser-known brand listed along side this monitor. If you look thru the reviews, more people are satisfied with the Timex and you know you're dealing with a reputable company who will honor their warranty.

The only 'cons' I can think of - #1 - The chest strap sometimes beeps when sitting idle, I guess because of electronic interference. This is not an issue when wearing the strap, but I'm thinking it may kill the battery before its time (easily replaced). #2 - The clasp on the chest strap is a bit scrawny. You have to force the tab thru it a little. I've seen no stress wear to the female part of the clasp, but if this part fails eventually, the business part of the chest strap will need to be replaced.

I hate to recommend products to anyone, and it's very rare that I'd five-star anything. But I can honestly say that this item has met or exceeded all of my expectations.

Congrats to the Celts!

Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor WatchI bought this heart rate monitor for both my husband and myself. We wanted one that we didn't have to send back to the manufacture or dealer everytime it needed a battery in the chest strap such as the Polar.

We've only been using them for about a month, but so far we really like them. It is very easy to learn hoew to set it and use all of the features. It also is very easy to get started. I put it on and just put a little water on the senors. In the past some of the HRM's I have owned I actually had to start sweating before they would engage.

The only thing on the negative side is that you can not see the time when you are in the Heart Rate Mode. That mode is all you can see. It bothers my husband, but not me.

I'd rate it a 5 instead of a 4, but we really haven't used them long enough to see if changing the battery goes smoothly. The 1st one we bought the buttons were jamed and my husband did change the battery to see if that was the problem. The battery was easy to change in the chest strap, but we had to send it back. The exchange went easily with Amazon.

With so many heart monitors available, I had some difficulty deciding on what to buy. I decided on the Timex T5G971 because I have always wore the Timex Iron Man. I have come to know Timex as a dependable and affordable sport time piece, and so far I am very happy with the heart monitor. It was easy to set up and works great! I have also read that other brands require that you send off to the company for replacement batteries, but such is not the case with the Timex.'

Smokedetector - smoke alarms, carbon monoxide

I spent a good amount of time in the fire safety aisle of a local store, reading packages and comparing units before selecting this particular one to replace an aging smoke-only alarm. This one has two different-sounding alarms (3 beeps for fire and 4 beeps for carbon monoxide) and runs on 2-AA batteries. The batteries can be replaced without taking the unit off the ceiling and the compartment won't close without batteries in it. I installed it by myself in just a couple of minutes with a pencil, drill, hammer and flathead screwdriver. It has several features I chose not to use, most involve locking systems to prevent tampering, but it is nice that they are offered. Also has a photoelectric sensor claiming to prevent false alarms from food smoke and shower steam. I think it's a great value for my family's safety.

**(12/20/08)**I would like to amend my review. A week after installing, the alarm started "chirping" 3 times at irregular intervals (once at 4:00am Sunday, then Tuesday at 1:30pm). I changed the batteries after a third incident (again in the early morning) and it was fine for another four days. The next time I took it down and noticed the back indicates the 3 "chirps" is to replace the alarm. I have had the thing less than a month and have to replace it already?!?!? What a CROCK!

**(12/22/08)**I called and spoke to a rep from First Alert on the phone who explained to me the unit runs a self-test every 90 seconds and if it fails, the alarm 'chirps'. He asked me a few questions and promised me a new unit in a week to ten days.

**(1/14/09)** I received a new unit in the mail today, hard to install with my fingers crossed.

**(3/3/09)**Another malfunctioning alarm, at five o'clock in the morning. I am through with this junk!! Buy only if you want to replace every 4-6 weeks. First Alert SC05CN Battery Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Alarm

I needed to replace a couple very old smoke detectors and decided to upgrade to a smoke and carbon dioxide detector. One of the problems with old smoke detectors is they use 9volt batteries which also are difficult to replace as well as expensive. This new First Alert dual smoke and carbon dioxide detector uses 2 AA batteries and has a separate battery compartment which allows you to replace the battery without taking the detector off the ceiling. Cheaper batteries and much easier to replace them. The cost at Amazon was only $30 and nicely cheaper than anywhere. All-around good service from Amazon. Very satisfied customer here.

I have rental properties and I decided to upgrade all units to have monoxide detectors. I decided on this unit because it is a two in one device and it used double AA batteries instead of the nine volts. My tenants keep complaining that these devices keep beeping. I looked on the back and 3 chirps = bad detector. I took a few of them down, put up the old ones and brought them to my home. They have not chirped since. Something about the other place is making these detectors fail.

Another thing is that I did not notice this but there is a 5 year life on these detectors and then they will chirp without any choice but to replace them. So even if yours works at first, you only will get 5 years out of it. I bought a total of 7 of these that cost me a few hundred and now I need to look for replacements. I wish I left all the old smoke detectors in.

Of course, First Alert is known for quality products, but this device is better yet. Very easy to install, easy to maintain (uses double A instead of 9 volt), relatively inexpensive and sounds an alarm shrill enough to wake up my 10 year old dog. Buy it!

Bought and installed one of these in my upstairs hallway.

Within 3 months of installation, the alarm began intermittently emitting the "3 rapid chirps" alarm, which means that the entire unit is bad and must be replaced. Extremely unreliable!

Like many other reviewers, the four that I bought are having intermittent spells of the dreaded "three chirps". Not sure what brings it on, but it seems to invariably happen in the middle of the night. Extremely annoying.

I bought two of these last year. Within a few months, we started getting false alarms. Three chirps in a row. Sometimes they would stop on their own. Other times, I would have to take them down, take out the batteries, and hang it up again later.

Each time, I tested the batteries. Each time, they were fine. I ever replaced the batteries a couple of times, just to be sure.

Don't buy these. They'll drive you to drink.

One month in place and have same 3 chirp problem. Company sending replacement, but now I expect problem to recur. Very disappointed because I bought 2 devices based on Consumer Reports recommendation for effectiveness. My model is SC501CN. Bought 4 smoke detectors too (SA302CN) and think one or two has same chirp problem. - Co - Combination Smoke - Carbon Monoxide - Smoke Alarms'

The B&D NST 2118 is easy to assemble and works as advertised. I have about 500 feet of flower bed trimming, which this trimmer is able to accomplish (vertically and horizontally) using two batteries. The first battery gives me about 20 minutes of actual run time; the second allows me to finish the job with power to spare. I do not run the trimmer continuously, as it is better to let it (and me) rest and cool a bit from time to time.

When I plan to use the trimmer, I charge one battery the day before and the other the night before. There is no problem leaving the battery in the charger beyond the charge time; I just get a trickle charge after it is fully charged. I also do not need to run the battery down before charging, as it does not have memory cells.

I use a volt meter to test the battery after a few hours of charging. When the meter reads 20 volts, I consider it charged. All cells will have a surface charge and read a bit higher right after recharging. Occasionally the green light is still on when the battery is charged to 20 volts. This is normal.

A lot of people complain about battery run time. I have many linear feet of grass to trim and can finish this task with two batteries. If I couldn't, I would use a gas-powered trimmer.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this trimmer and the supplied batteries. I realize that batteries can be fickle and mine could lose their effectiveness sooner than the 2-3 years of predicted lifetime. Such are the chances one takes with battery-powered tools. Black & Decker NST2118 12-Inch 18-Volt Ni-Cd Cordless Electric GrassHog String Trimmer/Edger

I bought this trimmer because I had a Black & Decker that operated like this one, but it was not cordless. I love the Idea of not having a cord. The saleman told me that the batteries would last thirty to forty five minutes. I did what the instrustions said and charged the batteries and did just light weedeating, down the driveway and started down the side of the house. It wasn't long the battery was dead. I changed the battery. I looked at my watch and continued weedeating. The Battery only lasted ten minutes. I loaded it back in the box and returned it to the store where I bought it.I got the electric model and love it even if I do have to use a drop cord. The battery opperated model would have been fantastic if the battery had lasted like I was told by the saleman. I hope this will help someone with their decission on which Trimmer/Eder to buy.

This product works exactly as described. I bought one six years ago and worked it to death. It finally died this morning and I am ordering a replacement of the exact same machine. The batteries held their charge and I was able to use the two batteries to weed eat, edge and finally use the companion blower to blow off the porches and driveway on one charge on only the two batteries. Changing the line is easy peasy. Snap out the old cartridge and snap in the new one. This machine works great.

I have two 3/4 acre yards to cut/maintain (not at the same time) and i seriously doubt anyone is getting 20-30 minutes of continues run time. I feel that I am proficient at trimming/edging,no back and forth swinging, pull the trigger, drop and go. That being said I have light/moderate grass and was surprised how much I got done in 13 minutes. A 40ftx140ft perimeter for the house, 3 trees, 30ft driveway (one side), 20ftx24ft work shop and a 40ft fence line (both sides). with the 2nd battery I was able to cut my front ditch (3ftx160ft) with thick grass(10 minute run time). No edging, so that left the 3rd battery for touch up.

The second yard is more difficult and is mostly edging and thick grass with fallen dried Palm tree leaves mixed in year round. 1st battery trimmed the 80ftx80ftx80ft shrub/tree line (13 minutes). 2nd battery trimmed two sides of a 40ftx160ft house and around a large rooted Oak tree and 2ftx10ft patch by the mailbox (13 minutes). again, 3rd battery for touch up

Now for the edging. this is a first for the second property, so the St.Augustine was badly overgrown. Needless to say it took 3 batteries the first day and 3 the second day to finish. Each battery lasted 7 minutes, but I was impressed that the motor never bogged or choked down. The only issue was having to lift the trimmer up so the string could get cut by the auto-feed. 3 weeks later, touch up work used only 2 batteries. This time for 13 minutes each.

Batteries seem to run 100% up to the 13 minutes before loosing it strength to cut, but I don't run them dead. In a months time, I've cycled these batteries 5 times, and the run time is the same and charge time is still 9 hours. I research this before hand, so I new the risks, from reading other reviews from other brands, 10-15 minutes seems to be the norm. For $106 OTD and a free battery (3 total) it gets the job done and am very impressed with it. the only minor negative is IMO a 3rd battery is a must. It also seems most of the weight is at the battery end and holding the trigger and carrying it, gets my forearm tired by the time I'm finished especially when having to use all 3 batteries consecutively. Within the 30 day return policy, I feel I have tested this trimmer pretty well and plan on keeping it.

I can no longer handle the standard trimmer with all the cord. By the time I got it all unwound to get to the back of the yard I was too tired to use it and then all that winding the cord around the arm leads to almost fainting. This is a Godsend. It is light enough for me to swing it back and forth and it does a great job. No tapping to keep the sting advancing. The battery lasts about 20 min and that is all I last and in fact am allowed to work in yard. Getting the 2 batteries is great.

My only problem was putting it together The black shield was hard to get in place by myself but I finally did. I got a pack of the pre rolled string which is quite handy when they empty I will keep them wound with less expensive by the big pack thread. I am still on the original. I have used it quite a bit and even to cut down foot high grass so the yard can dry to be mowed.

Great product. I have now ordered the hedge trimmer that is 18v, no more cutting the electric cord. - Cordless Chain Saw - E-reader - Kindle Devices - Ebook'

Full-spectrum Bulbs - bulb, daylight

I am an engineer who has been completely disgusted with the home lighting situation. There are no standards and many misstatements and counterdictions at the stores. I own a Minolta flash meter which accurately measures a lights color temperature. I've tried the bulb technology at Walmart, Sams Club Home Depot and Lowes. The most glaring examples:

1) yellow light is called soft white (2700)

2) very blue light is called daylight 6000-6500)

3) 12W LED lights go for as much as $90!

4) Some bulbs are advertised as white but the chart on the back shows its yellow. Complete incompetence.

Here is not what to avoid: all (harsh washed-out blue) daylight, and (yellow) soft white. While GE Reveal offers somewhat better clarity its still overpriced and quite yellow.

Full spectrum (5000-5500) bulbs are a step-up but stores offer a very limited selection, like one! The Home Depot full 100w spectrum's beats the Lowe's Ott-Lite. The best compromise are the PAR38 indoor 23-27w 3500K reflector lights (which actually measure 4100K), especially for recessed kitchen spot lighting.

On the LED front Sam's Club carries a 520 lumen, 4100K, 9 LED PAR38 reflector which has a easily noticeable smoother light spectrum. Interesting for the one light on in the kitchen in the evening. The equivalent $70 LED lights at the hardware store are hardly a bargain, as the Sam's is $20! However its Color Retention index (CRI)is only 74.

The best of all are lights are these 5500K Alzo's. I've installed a 45w in the kitchen pantry and the color of the food boxes really pop. Food looks like it does in the magazines. The clarity is first rate (however 27w should be sufficient). They are the reference to which others are to be compared. My wife has not complained even when they are on at night-time. This is a first.

Skin tones in the bathroom look very natural. A first again.

Color temperature alone is not the sole basis to buy a bulb as a high CRI is also required. The Alzo's come in at 92, which is very high. Most manufactures do not even list this measurable figure (assume because its too low).

Well gotta go as my wife wants one in her closet now, as shes hates the other fluorescent lights which cause eye-strain. Should I install a 45w and blow her away? ALZO Digital Full Spectrum Light Bulb - ALZO 45W Photo CFL 5500K 91 CRI, Daylight balanced, pure white light, 2800 Lumens, Case of 4

After having used these bulbs on several photographic applications, I have one word for them...FABULOUS!

I have photographed real estate interiors, pets at a local animal shelter, and now food for a Pittsburgh area restaurant. The ALZO 45 watt has performed exactly "as advertised".

The 5500K provides daylight color light that can be mixed with fill-flash and natural daylight, and one white balance setting does the job. Regarding white balance; you will have to experiment with the WB to find the right setting for your camera. Don't use the auto if you want the best results. On my Nikon D-40, I use the "cloudy +3" white balance for accurate color of my subject.

The brightness of these bulbs, is as advertised, approximately equivalent to a 150 watt incandescent. I use two bulbs with reflectors and they are great for rooms up to about 20', but I may consider a pair of the higher watt ALZOs for larger rooms.

Great product guys!

Incredible light and awesome brightness. Replaced this in the living room and the room looks so fresh and anew.

(Update April 2nd 2009): Sorry. One of the bulbs is already gone. Thought this would last much longer than 3 months. I have to check into the hassle of replacing under warranty. It was used for about 4-5 hrs per day for 3 months.

Used this Alzo bulb to replace CFLs in the house that were not true white. I've tried several brands from supermarkets and Home Depot but was disappointed to find that anything labeled "soft white", "warm white" or "cool white" is not white but yellow (are the manufacturers color blind?). Thanks to Alzo for giving people a better alternative. It just puzzles me why it is so difficult to find bulbs like these in the usual stores (or maybe I'm looking at the wrong place). True white light is so much better than yellow light for many tasks (reading, cooking, dressing up, wearing makeup, painting, tasks where color perception is very important). In other countries, true white bulbs are the norm, are made by big manufacturers like GE, Toshiba and Philips and are easy to find in supermarkets and hardware stores, why not in the US? So far the only place I found the bulbs commonly used are in Hilton hotels (they use the brand TopStar from GE). My only issue with Alzo bulbs are the size (not as compact as they should be), otherwise I highly recommended them. As for the buzzing hum, I only noticed it the first time I turned on the light. After that I forgot it was there. The hum is typical for fluorescent lights. I like the fact that there is no delay in getting the maximum light from these bulbs unlike other CFLs. Forty five watts is very bright. Get the 26/27 watts if you need it for lamps or small rooms. Just remember that they sell out very fast on the Alzo website esp in the winter.

These bulbs do a great lighting job and I'm still using them -- but in places where I don't have to be near the bulb (like in ceiling fan lights). I initially tried these in the bathroom but the buzzing was intense. I thought it might be the socket (although it never had problems before) so I tried other fixtures (admittedly only tested two of the four bulbs so far). Every one of them emits a terrible humming that, if it is in your ear's "line of sight" (like in a desk lamp or a vanity) then it will drive you mad.

Unbelievably clear, clean BRIGHT light!!! This is my first try at full spectrum.

The light is so clean off these bulbs its unbelievable. If you are looking for a clean white full spectrum light look no further. Be warned however, one of these bulbs will light an entire bedroom. I placed one in a small lamp in my home office and my wife thought I was nuts. It poured out the hallway and looked as if a UFO landed in the other room. 45 watts is very powerful so if your looking to add these to a ceiling fan or multi-bulb fixture these will be way too powerful and most likely too large in size. All you would need is a quarter or less watts when using more then one.

Also these are large bulbs. Very large. If you need a bulb to go into a table lamp be sure to check the dimensions as it requires a lot of space opposed to a standard CFL or incandescent.

I plan on using this in my home shop now and maybe try them on some seedlings this winter. Will be looking to replace my other CLFs with these over time as long as I can get a smaller wattage.

Handheld Cordless Vacuum - handheld cordless vacuum, black and decker

I purchased the older model PHV 1800 a little over 3 years ago, back in May 2007. I liked it so much that I purchased another one for my in-laws a month later. For the last couple of months, the battery no longer retained a proper charge and since the battery is unfortunately not replaceable, it gave me an excuse to buy this newer model PHV 1810. As with the previous model, this is the best and most powerful handheld vacuum we've ever used in our household.

As I'm comparing the two units side-by-side, the new vacuum is a little smaller than the previous model and the dirt bin is bigger (it should hold more dirt). Since the battery on the old model is pretty much dead, I cannot give you an accurate power suction comparison between the two, but this one seems as powerful as when the previous model was new.

The nozzle has a wide range of motions, it pivots to use at many angles and has a cleaning brush built into it (you just need to flip it upwards) so you'll never lose it again. Dirt spins away from the filter so suction power stays strong. Cleaning the unit is very effective, you just click the side door open and unlike the older model, this one allows you to remove the canister and filter entirely and rinse them. The manual comes with instructions for removing and disposing of the nickel-cadmium battery, but nowhere does it say that replacements are available. One thing I liked on the previous model was when you needed to charge or use the unit; you simply put it in or remove it from a cradle; with this new model, you'll have to plug and unplug the power supply on the back of the unit anytime you need to use it.

If you want a powerful and portable vacuum, look no further. Black & Decker Pivot Vac 18V Cordless Pivoting Hand Vac, PHV1810

I have compared new Black and Decker 1800 and 1810 side by side. Less noise is the only thing the 1810 has over the 1800, but I don't consider that an advantage in a vacuum cleaner that I want to suck! The suction, the charging stand, the design of the 1800 is far superior to the 1810. In fact the 1810 has a MAJOR design flaw: Fold the nozzle back and everything you just vacuumed up falls out the nozzle!

This thing is a powerful hand vac!

I haven't figured out if the brush feature is any good yet.

I like the smaller attachment that slides out for small areas.

Emptying out the container is easy enough but sometimes I use my big vacuum to really get the junk out.

One thing to keep in mind is it is a bit heavy but I don't mind.

I have not had any problems with stuff coming out when folding it up.

I love having this thing around!

Let me first say I buy nearly 100 products from Amazon every year and have for 5 years and have never written a review on here because I don't have a lot of time and am very busy. But I felt compelled for this product. It's simply unbelievable. I had the earlier model but after 3 years the battery finally died so I saw this new version and decided to pick it up. Black & Decker missed the mark on 2 minor things, but everything else is a HUGE improvement. First, what they missed: I was disappointed to see there's no charging cradle anymore. Bring that back. Second, the vac is front heavy. They should have installed some lead weights in the rear so it doesn't have a tendency to drop forward. It's certainly a non-issue, but from a standpoint of perfectionism, it would have made the vac more comfortable to hold in your hand. Also, I think they should have made the battery cover a different color. It's almost like the color you'd see in a baby's room. I would have liked to see a more modern kind of color, but the rest of the vac is designed very nice.

But how does it perform? This thing will BLOW you away. It's incredible how powerful it is and I love the fact that you can remove the front assembly for easy rinsing in the sink (such as after you vacuum up a mound of saw dust as I did last night). I think this product rightly deserves the title of "The most powerful hand vac in the world."

Seriously, if you need a new hand vac or aren't satisfied with your current dust buster, pick this up now. I mean it. Seriously. I'll bet you a 6 pack that you'll LOVE this thing. I got mine here on Amazon for under 60 bucks and I think I paid $[...] for the last generation when I bought it and this thing BLOW THE PANTS off the last one.

Buy it now! Seriously. No, seriously, buy this NOW!

I purchased this hand vac a couple of weeks ago for use at our vacation home. It is intended to replace an old dustbuster, the battery of which was kaput. In our other home we have the previous model--the B&D PHV1800, which we like a lot--I would give it 5 stars.

The newer model is a disappointment for several reasons--

1. Cleaning the filter is much more complicated. One must remove the entire chute and canister in order to get at the filter.

2. As mentioned in another review, the chute is susceptible to having contents of the canister fall out once the vacuum is turned off. If one empties the canister after each use, this isn't too much of an issue. Ordinarily, after cleaning up a few crumbs or a bit of sand, we would not go to the trouble. This thing is for convenience, after all.

3. No way was provided to hang up the vac when not in use. Although the charging tray for the 1800 was cumbersome, it was better than having to put the device on the floor or a shelf for charging. We finally tied a loop of nylon cord around the handle in order to hang it on a hook in the closet.

4. But the final, fatal flaw: After the first charge, the battery could never be fully recharged. The device ran down within 20-30 seconds, even after an overnight charge. Our other one, after a couple of years use, still has full power for 2-3 minutes. So the one we were sent had a bad battery.

At first we found that the 1810 had good suction and from that standpoint performed in an equivalent manner to its predecessor. We developed workarounds for the spillage, storage, and cleaning issues. But when it finally was evident that we had a faulty battery, that was the last straw. We returned the device to Amazon for a refund. I must say that since the return was within the 30 day window, Amazon was amazing! No complaints there.

All this having been said, when we get back to our vacation place, we plan to order another one of these. If the battery works satisfactorily, giving us the same use as our 1800, I will re-review and give the item 3 or maybe even 4 stars. If you get one, be sure to use it a lot in the first 30 days. If it doesn't live up to your expectations, you can use Amazon's great return policy and get another device. - Hand Vac - Black And Decker - Handheld Cordless Vacuum - Cordless Vacuum'

Camcorder Accessories - camcorder accessories, battery

I recently bought the HDR-SR11 and was recommended to buy this battery. The battery that comes with the camcorder is the FH-60, but that only lasts 96 minutes if you use it for continuous recording, and while using the viewfinder and not the lcd screen. On average, the stock battery only lasts about 40 minutes.

The FH-70 lasts up to about 150 minutes. It doesn't stick out the back of the camcorder (at least for my SR11), looks exactly like the stock FH-60 battery. The FH-70 usually lasts a whole day for me, and I use it to record basketball games, swimming, skateboarding, and everything in between. With both the FH-70 and stock FH-60, they should be able to last for a whole day of recording. Sony NPFH70 H Series Actiforce Hybrid InfoLithium Battery for most Sony Camcorders

For it's size, this battery packs a long charge. i now have two of them and use my sony Hard Disk video cam for wedding videos....and two of these batteries easily get me through long catholic ceremonies plus the entire reception and dance afterward.

Works exactly as advertised. Battery lasts over three hours on a full charge on my Sony High Def Hard Drive Camcorder (HDR-SR7). For reference, the standard battery that came with the camcorder (NP-FH60)lasts about an hour and a half. Both are referenced at continuous recording. They'll both last much longer if not used continuously. Overall I have to say that I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it highly.

The only negative about this battery is the size of it -- larger than the one that came with the camera which makes it hard to fit it and the wires into my little camcorder bag.

It holds a long charge and I never ran it out yet. I took it on vacation and took lots of video. I did recharge every night but I probably didn't need to.

This Sony NPFH70 H Series Actiforce Hybrid InfoLithium Battery is truly Amazing. It was only on Sunday 23rd September that I used it on my Sony SODCRHC38 DCR-HC38 Mini DV Camcorder. I set the Camcorder to always remain on, and

filmed for 3hrs and still had 1hr and 20 min of life remaining on it. I did not use any external power. In the process I changed 3 mini DV 60 min cassettes. I have no regrets buying this Battery, it is worth every cent.

FYI, this NP-FH70 indicates 149 minicamcorder mode)) 211 min (photo mode), though it meets the claim in the package 3.5 hrs, however this is only for photo mode, not recording time, I did not buy NP-FH100 because it is too huge, and total recording time on default (NP-FH60 90 min) and this battery should be enough for a day's trip. it is up to your decision if you want carry 2 or 1(NP-FH100). I prefer to carry 2 batteriesD

Solid replacement, holds a good charge, worth several hours of recording time. My only issues with the battery are (1) if possible it is even bigger than the "factory" battery and (2) the "fit" is not quite perfectly tight on the camera. It is acceptable, but it doesn't seem to fully lock into place. This does not impact performance, but it doesn't feel solid.

The Sony NP-FH70 battery is well worth the investment. It provides 6.5 hours of record time with a Sony MiniDV camcorder. Amazon's price is a lot less than if you purchased it from any other vendor. Word from the wise, do not purchase those after market batteries made to replace the NP series batteries. The after market batteries require a piece of wire to conncet from the battery to the camcorders DC input in order to work with the camera. You will only save $10 over the Sony original but will be poked in the eye a bunch of times by the stinking wires. Also the aftermarket batteries do not display the battery time on the camera screen. So you have to guess when the battery will die. Sony did well with this product, though I wonder why stupid batteries are so damn expensive??????????????!!!!!!!!

Highly recommended

Iphone 3gs - headphones, ear buds

Been through over 30 (THIRTY!) pairs of earphones in the past 5 years - all of them give up and die. I do a lot of sports and find music or talk pushes me more. I bike and run and do weights and I'm tough on the earphones. These are simply the best I've tried so far. I've only had them three months but no gliches at all yet. The chunky remote can be used with very thick winter gloves and I like where it hangs. I always put the earphones inside between a running vest and a luminous jacquard so I never run with "loose" wires and this makes these great I can press the remote on my chest and it just works. I can take calls, the mike works. Note: the vloume doesn't work on my iphone 3G, but when running that's not the end of the world as I just adjust it on the phone itself. I'm sticking with these and they had better last. Will update Dec 2011, if I remember, when I've had them a year - and if they die, you bet I'll be back to say so. Otherwise till then 100% happy. Klipsch Image S5i RUGGED In-Ear Earphone with Mic, 3-Button Apple Control and Saftey Case (Black/Gray)

I am a headphone junkie, and the search for the perfect iPhone-controlling pair has added a whole new dimension to my quest for perfection. I looked forward to these for months after they were announced as my s4i's were falling apart. Basically, I understand that headphones in NYC take a beating, but those things were coming apart at every junction...the cable around the earphones is frayed and the headphone jack has exposed wires and I've coveRed it with electrical tape. Amazingly, they were still my favorites, and the mic and controls are top notch so I dealt with it. Also, I hear that the slightest bit if moisture can ruin the mic/buttons.

So, these things would seem to address the durability issue, AND have a better, softer cable (the s4i cable is very stiff and downright plasticy, especially in cold weather). They're about 90% there... The cabling is definitely higher quality, in general ait seems like they are better made. They sound pretty much the same (excellent), but the mic/button controller is now huge. I mean, whereas on the other model it's almost invisible, on this one it's almost as big as a stick of gum. Makes it easy to find and use, but also kind of bulky. I'd love them to split the difference.

Here's my problem with these things... Both the s4i and these have gone bad within weeks of purchasing. And these are the rugged ones! Amazon replaced the others no problem, but these I received as a gift and I had to deal with Klipsh customer service. Pray you never have to do this, because they literally TREAT YOU LIKE A CRIMINAL. I explained to them that they were a gift and I didnn't have the receipt, but also that the mode l itself is only a month old and therefore should definitely be covered under the two year warranty... However I was told repeatedly that without the receipt I couldn't prove I hadn't stolen them and would therefore get no service. I did eventually track the receipt down and am now the owner of a replacement pair - hopefully they'll fare as well as the replacement s4i's (reasonably well).

PROS:

Soft, sturdy cabling and generally durable construction, stays supple even in the coldest weather

Excellent sound

Easy iPod controls (ff, pause, play, rew, voice-commands) even accessible with gloves

Excellent microphone

Comfortable earbuds

CONS:

Horrible customer service (save your receipt)

Questionable quality/durability - my microphone went south within weeks under normal use (especially bad because of aforementioned customer service)

Bulky controller

Silicone earbud covers only - NO FOAM ( which is much better for sound isolation and comfort)

Straight plug, rather than more compact, more durable L-type. I really wish they'd change this.

MEHS:

Included case and flashlight are mostly useless, probably lost within minutes. They should sell it cheaper without it.

**An issue that seems to be a concern for many people is the location of the controller and mic. It's at the Y-junction of the headphones rather than dangling off one of the earpieces (the more customary setup). I may have just gotten used to it, but now that I'm trying out a different pair of headphones I have some new opinions about it. I actually really like and kind of miss the controls on this model, they're easy to reach and easy to see. Also, because they're not hanging off an ear, they can be bigger and more substantial (still no need to be quite as big as they are). Having the mic down there is definitely questionable and I usually lift it up to my mouth even though the instructions say it's unnecessary and people haven't complained. Using the more traditional setup, I find myself fumbling for the controller for a moment every time, and it's a little more awkward of a move to FF/REW by reaching up to your ear than to simply tap your chest. It would be nice to redesign these to get the best of both worlds - put the mic by your ear and leave the controls where they are. This would also address the issue of getting the mic wet when you exercise/sweat (even though these are "ruggedized" they still seem to be susceptible to moisture).

I really like these headphones, I'm really pulling for this pair because I dread having to deal with the company again. I recommend them for sound and design and function, just keep your receipt and keep in mind that ruggedized in no way means indestructible.

I previously had Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi which is in a same price range as this S5i. The UE lasted less than 3 months after purchase so I wanted another new earphone that can endure through time.

Sound. Klipsch Image S5i was my first choice. So I decided to purchase. After testing the sound it seems that this product has a very weak highs but strong lows when comparing with my previous Ultimate Ears. Well, I admit that I don't really like this attribute as much since I focus more on highs. Still, it is a very personal issue. Anyone who wants to read more on sound attribute should look at the S4i that use the same sound system.

Comfort. I believe Klipsch S5i (along with S4i) provides you the best comfort in this price range. You will barely feel there is an earphone in your ears. This is due to the 'patented' oval shaped earpiece offered by Klipsch. Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi made my ear canal sore before. So this is a great upgrade. The earpieces stuck in nicely and don't fall out when running.

Function. I use these primarily with my laptop and HTC Desire Android phone. No problem with anything except the volume buttons don't work with my Android phone. It still can start/stop track and receive/end calls though. A relatively big control pad (comparing to other products) can spin around a bit when you walk/run and will probably make some cable noise by its weight. Anyway all of these are of no concern to me.

Longetivity. This is by first concern when I purchase any earphone. I don't workout that much. The cable is very tough, using a rubber-like substance found on iPhone factory earphones. The plug at the end of earphone that connect to your device is not an L-shape, it is straight. But that straight shape seems flexible on my first try. So forces can be distributed. Klipsch S5i beats my previous Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi by miles in this rugged aspect. Still, time will tell. The case is really neat and looks expensive and high-quality. Flashlight doesn't look like it is made in China at all.

In conclusion, everything is fine and deserved the price. I will update after some months passed and report if it can last or not.

EDIT :

3/14/11 One month passed.

No problem at all. I am very content about the build material; they do last and is durable. - Iphone 4 - Headphones - Ear Buds - Earphones'

I have used these in an old Senco gun that I get to borrow once in a while. I have never had a jam or feed problem with them. They are a plain shank, but are glue coated. The heat generated by the friction of driving them in at a rapid rate sets the glue and makes them difficult to pull without a longer prybar. You can get them out with a claw hammer, but I always like the easy way - a cat's paw to start and a 30" prybar to finish the job. That's the long way of saying these nails have some real holding power. Try a box on your next big project. B & C Eagle A314X131/22 Round Head 3-1/4-Inch by .131-Inch by 20 to 22 Degree Plastic Collated Framing Nail (500 per Box)

worked fine no jams. best for toe nailing. length will penetrate and stick out through doubled 2x lumber so if that's an issue go for 3" nails. eye proteciton is a must as plastic collating flies in every direction and is sharp. you'll find out if you kneel on a piece by accident like i did. you do save on bulk purchase though as a 4,000 nail box of similar nails is around $45.00 at home depot(less than half the price).

If you have a Porter Cable FR350, for some reason finding nails can be a slight problem. The mega home store with the orange sign has them, but not consistently. So these are a good stop-gap until you can find more. They drive well and seem to hold well.

These nails are great. I've had so much fun with my new nails and nail gun, I've used a 1/2 a box just playing around reinforcing saw horses, adding spacers and supports in the shed, building a deck :) Can't wait to finish off this box on the next project and get another one! :)

These nails are fine, but seriously overpriced. They work well in my nail gun and I have not had any jams.

However, I only purchased these because I did not need a box of 10,000 like they are sold at the big orange store. But, if you only need a few hundred nails instead of several thousand, what can you do?'

The Samsung C750 is the most reasonable 3DTV on the market in terms of price. Not only is the television fully 3D compliant with the new standards, it also is an excellent 2D LCD television as well.

The 3D aspects of the television are the most interesting and what separates it from most other LCD's (including Samsung's 650 model). Although there is not much in terms of content to try out, I have watched Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D, Played Avatar the videogame on the PS3, watched the Masters in 3D, and tried out the 2D to 3D Conversion on live TV, movies, and games.

Unfortunately with all 3D sources, I have experienced some "ghosting" which is a problem where you see a double image. That said, I did manage to configure my Samsung 3D Bluray Player to the correct TV size (by default it's 55 inches) plus I upgraded the firmware and that seems to have made a large improvement. I suspect the picture size spreads out the effect and will cause even more ghosting than normal. With Avatar the game, I left the 3D effect at 1, set the correct TV size and viewing distance, and chose side by side 3D (you have to set the TV to match this) and the effect was brilliant! I do still see ghosting during cut scenes, but during gameplay it looks fantastic. The Masters, was a bit of a mixed bag. It is also side by side 3D and at times it is brilliant (when the camera pans around the environment your jaw will drop) but the first time you see severe ghosting you are taken out of the moment. However, I think once Cable and Satellite receivers are more 3D ready, you should be able to configure for the screen size, depth, and viewing distance.

2D to 3D is unique and has its moments of brilliance but also has severe drawbacks. Let's put it this way, you won't confuse Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D in it's native 3D format for watching Monsters Vs. Aliens in 2D to 3D conversion. The conversion (you can change the depth) actually can be quite blurry with some material and most material isn't worth watching converted. Some movies like Star Trek are kind of fun but I wouldn't buy the television strictly for this feature.

2D content is fantastic. The color (even the black level since you can configure the backlight without having to hack the firmware), sharpness, and overall features (such as MotionPlus) are astounding for the price range. I actually have turned off MotionPlus simply because it gives non sports programming a "Spanish Soap Opera" effect. I did run into a bit of a strange issue that seems to have gone away by resetting the cable box where the picture bounced up and down using a Time Warner HD Cable box hooked via HDMI (you need HDMI to view the Masters in 3D). I really can't hold that against the TV, it was more the cable box but I've read of similar problems with some Samsung models so there does seem to be some buggy firmware with the box.

Overall if it wasn't for the ghosting issues still being present (it could be the content, but I cannot be sure, I'd like to test more 3D Televisions) and the 2D to 3D conversion being slightly underwhelming I'd give this TV a perfect score. As it is, if you are in the market for an affordable HDTV and want the 3D option, you can't go wrong. You have plenty of inputs (plus two usb slots) and the TV is a beautiful compliment to your entertainment room so I highly recommend this television (it's nearly $1,000 cheaper than the LED model of the same size).

Edit as of 5/12/2010:

I've had this TV now for a few weeks and gone through a firmware update, tested some more functions, calibrated it more, and updated the firmware on the Samsung 6900 3D Bluray Player twice.

I want to change my comments on 2D -> 3D conversion. I don't know if it's the firmware upgrade or what, but now I definitely see a difference in most scenes (I have the depth up to 10). Games like Uncharted 2 with a map like "The Village" look fantastic converted. I've also managed to get Avatar (The Game) on the PS3 to look great with side by side 3D with minimal ghosting. Since the firmware update and the 3D Optimize option for the TV, Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D also looks very good.

I did have a stupid moment where I noticed a huge lag playing something like Rock Band and finally realized there is a game mode. Since going to game mode, I have no issues playing videogames and the response time is virtually nothing now.

I absolutely love the TV, it does have some flashlighting (You don't see this unless the screen is ENTIRELY black) but 2D content looks fantastic and 3D is impressing me more and more. For a while it was even cheaper than it is now on Amazon but the price went back up. It's still worth it. I see some people bashing the TV simply because the glasses aren't included or it's not competing with the Panasonic 3D Plasma models but they obviously haven't seen it. Everybody that has reviewed this TV on Amazon owns the TV, some sites people are reviewing 3D Ready TV's without actually owning it. I've seen reviews based on a 5 minute demo and they couldn't even tell you the firmware level. Believe me this TV is awesome and once you experience a true 3D source, you will have little doubt 3D is the next wave in TV (it may be a few years until it reaches mainstream).

I'm also giving it 5 stars since the firmware update since ghosting/crosstalk has gotten a lot better (it's still not quite perfect but very impressive). Samsung LN46C750 46-Inch 1080p 3D LCD HDTV (Black)

Posted this on AVS forums and decided to post it here too since I bought the TV here on Amazon.

Posted on 6/24/10

Finally got the Samsung from Amazon after almost 2 weeks. Slowest shipping I've seen in a long time. I'd rather pay a few bucks than wait weeks for free.

Initial impressions:

Picture Quality: Out of the box the picture/brightness/backlight is very "bright" but varies greatly depending picture mode. Movie mode adjusts the picture settings to very close to the calibration settings for the C650 for movie watching (lcdbuyingguide calibration). I only took 3-5 mins calibrating each input for the devices I use and it took me a few mins to find game mode as it's not in there with the picture modes. Very extensive picture settings and 5 Auto Motion Plus modes with a Demo mode if you're not sure. Overall the picture is pretty jaw dropping with my HD Cable not to mention Blu-ray.

Head to Head with Bravia EX700:

Don't have a preference in TV brands and wanted to try a Sony this time around. I still have the Bravia but it's going back to Best Buy this weekend. To our eyes, textures and colors on the Sony appear more realistic and probably more accurate but it's pretty dull looking. The Samsung is more alive and side by side with the same movies playing from the same source everyone here picked the Samsung no matter how much I brightened the Sony. The dark scenes on the Bravia don't compare. Even with the backlight all the way up, it starts to wash out and just doesn't have the same WOW. That's the only way I can describe it. I also get bad contrast loss on the Sony if you move just 2 feet away from the center in any direction but I thought that was normal. I can't detect it on the Samsung until you view from almost the side of the TV. Huge viewing angle. I only watch from the middle anyway.

I could go on listing the features I like and dislike but this is getting long so I'll just tell you my favorite one so far. I play tons of HD movies from my PC across the room. The streaming from my wired network to this tv works better than my 360 and PS3 hands down. There is absolutely no loading time. I have about 80 MKV's (close to 1TB) in one folder and it loads instantly and streams them perfectly. This has to be seen to be believed. The streaming options are like that of a DVD/Blu-ray player with many nice functions. The Sony does not compare in this category at all. It wouldn't stream mkv's and it degrades the quality of anything it CAN stream. I just thought maybe these tv's added DNLA for kicks but no REAL functionality. Not the case on the C750. The internet options and the AP news ticker are sweet too. I"ll leave it at that for now and maybe review the 3D if anyone is interested. So far I'm very happy with this tv and still looking for flaws. If you have any questions feel free.

UPDATE on picture quality 6/29/2010

Quick tip I've found that most people don't do: For HD content, especially HDMI, turn your Sharpness down to 10 or less to get rid of jaggies. You will see a tremendous amount of jaggies out of the box on new tv's as they set the Sharpness way too high. You only need to turn it up for SD content.

I've had enough time with the tv to properly test things out and I'm still very impressed. There is definitely a little contrast degradation at wide viewing angles. It's not detectable unless you watch tv from the side of the room or you're looking for it. One thing I didn't like was how they named the Auto Motion Plus. Instead of Custom, Low, Medium and High, they call it Custom, Clear, Standard and Smooth without telling you what's high and low. You have to figure it out through testing it and that just added to the learning curve when testing the tv's functions on different stuff. I also noticed that if you set the Auto Motion Plus to high on some cable content you get some kind of judder/smoothing effect you don't get on low or medium. I personally love the Auto Motion effect on most content though. At minimum, I use the low setting on everything except videogames and it brings the picture to life.

If you play games online you MUST use game mode and there's virtually no detectable lag. All the picture settings are adjustable in game mode except Auto Motion. When you first turn on Game mode the picture will look horrible as the default Sharpness is set to 50. Turn it down to 10 or less to get rid of the jaggies and the picture is pretty perfect. The TV can pull off some good visual tricks but the processing adds lots of lag so don't turn any of that eye candy stuff on like Auto Motion Plus unless you're playing offline.

I can only imagine the horrible laggy, jaggy experience people are having if they don't do minor calibrations. Sharpness alone can kill your HD picture but with game mode turned off, Auto Motion on and other smoothing techniques on, the lag is almost unbearable. Game mode fixes all that. Fine tune it if you can or get help.

UPDATE on 3D 6/29/2010

5 Day update: 3D impressions: I intentionally waited a few days get some experience with it. Where do I start? First I will discuss the effect 3D has on my eyes, then how it looks. I've been playing with the 3D a lot for the past few days and the results were very mixed. If you've seen the Monsters vs Aliens in 3D in the Best Buy setup then you know what to expect from animated 3D Blu-rays for the most part.

I was surprised to see such extensive settings while in 3D mode. The 3D itself has depth and optimization options along with another set of picture settings just for 3D and the ability to use Auto Motion in 3D to fine tune your experience. Again, turning down the Sharpness, especially while playing 3D games has improved the picture quality greatly. Overall I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise to see so many adjustable settings because this is the most customizable TV I've ever seen.

I don't wear glasses normally but my girlfriend does so getting used to that is taking some time for me. The glasses bothered me a lot the first day watching cable TV while not bothering her at all. It was similar to the feeling I got watching Avatar 3D in imax. I feel the eye strain after 10 mins or so of sustained viewing causing me to remove the glasses every few minutes to rest my eyes. After 5 days though, I must note that I'm starting to get used to it and it bothers me less and less. However, while playing 3D games this is not the case. I've played for 30-60 mins straight multiple times. It does not bother my eyes at all (very happy about that). More on the games in a min. Monsters vs Aliens 3D and 1080p videos didn't bother my eyes either, essentially proving the theory that the majority of eye strain from 3D comes from the source of the video you're watching. In my case this was very true. Low reolution sources like 2D to 3D cable is a problem for me while 3D Blu-rays and 3D games and 1080p vids DO NOT have the same effect on my eyes even after 30 or 60 minutes. I haven't watched a whole movie yet but will soon.

First thing I tried was the 2D to 3D conversion for SD and HD cable. Not as good as real 3D content on Blu-ray by far but not bad at all. At far camera distances, the effect is not as high as when close up. Close up it looks pretty good. Looks like a "light" version of what Avatar 3D looked like to me in imax. The SD stuff seems to be such a low resolution that it's probably only worth attempting to convert 2D-3D for HD stuff. I didn't notice any artifacts, ghosting, crosstalk or whatever but I must note that we have the rechargeable glasses and not the battery ones and I've read that the glasses alone can change your whole viewing experience. In my opinion it's not worth skimping out on the glasses after you've gone this far and bought the tv. Get the good glasses and avoid any silly issues others are having.

Next I tried a few of my 1080p mkv and m2ts files. We can't detect any resolution loss here. Very impressive compared to cable in 3D. Still looks full HD and the 3D effect is much more evident. Tried Alice in Wonderland, LOTR, Matrix and a few others. Turn on Auto Motion Plus with it and it's even more amazing looking to me. Not as "3D" as Monsters vs Aliens and there's no off screen effects on anything I'm converting but this is far beyond what I imagined when I heard "2D-3D conversion". We will definitely watch these 1080p movies like this on a regular basis now. It's very refreshing to look at my large movie library with renewed excitement after seeing this in action on my favorite movies like Lord of the Rings and The Usual Suspects which I've seen at least 5 or 6 times.

Lastly, I played some games on PS3 and 360 in 3D. Sony has put a couple 3D demos out so I tried MLB The Show 3D and Motorstorm Pacific Rift 3D demo. Both looked great but Motorstorm was exceptional. I liked it so much I went out and bought a used copy of this 2yr old game assuming there'd be an update to play the full game in 3D. Not the case. There's no 3D mode on the update I was prompted to install. I was baffled that they would put out a demo of something you couldn't buy and I'm still upset about their trickery but this gave me the opportunity to test the 2D-3D vs the 3D optimized demo. I'm almost certain that all the demo does is essentially put your tv in the proper optimized 3D mode and makes some camera adjustments because side by side, the 3D demo was almost the same as the full game running in 2D-3D. The demo however was optimized to extend the bottom of the screen out into your living room a few feet so at times, dirt and passing cars pop off the screen and fly towards you in a cool way. Very nice. I then tried a few 360 games this way. I tried Battlefield Bad Company 2, Blur, Red Dead Redemption and Modern Warfare 2. Blur didn't have as pronounced an effect as the others. BF2 and MW2 were insanely better than I could have imagined going in to this. I'm playing the BF2 campaign over again and it's really like a new experience. For lack of a better description, it feels much more like you are there moving with your characters in the dense jungle. There's nothing popping off screen or any of that but the depth of the environments and characters make it hard for anyone to argue if this is the future for gaming or not.

Reserve your judgement of 3D until you really see it because if there wasn't the barrier of buying ridiculously high priced glasses, this is all most people would need to see to be sold on this technology. To have a TV that can do this stuff to 2D content at this price is just plain sweet as hell. Maybe my expectations were low but bottom line is if I knew the conversion was this good on 1080p film and games, I would not have been so worried about it. I guess seeing IS believing. - Samsung Lcd - 240hz - 1080p - Hdtv'
