Citizen Eco-drive - divers watch, dive watch

Pros:

Citizen's BN0000-04H has something unique. It may not carry the weight of a TAG Heuer, Omega, Rolex, or other sport-dive watch (in cold hard $, "prestige", or actual literal heaviness for sure), but it really has charm.

With this watch you get the superior time-keeping qualities of a high-grade japanese quartz movement (quartz always runs on a battery - yes, there is a specially-engineered titanium-manganese battery in there) but without the need for any battery change, ever (at least 20 years by Citizen engineers' estimates). This movement blows automatics out of the water in time-keeping. It doesn't have the fluid sweep of an automatic's second hand (it ticks in 1-second intervals), but for me keeping time is what counts in a watch, right?

This is a set-it-and-forget-it watch. It will keep on trucking about 6-months in total darkness from a full charge. And if it does stop, it'll come out of it to full accurate time-keeping with just 15 minutes in the summer sunshine. It will run a whole 24 hour time-cycle with only 4 minutes of light exposure. Eco-Drive is the new deal in watch movement. [EDIT: Not to mention the battery inside is specially made non-toxic. It's a green machine.]

As to its pedigree, it's a real ISO-rated dive watch. There's an easy way to tell with Citizens: if there's an M after the depth rating on the face, it's ISO-rated. This isn't just my theory, this is from Citizen's own product info. This watch wants to see dive time.

The watch face, which some call cramped, feels to me like looking through a porthole in a submarine or something. It's a little deep. I can tell the time just fine. The hour dots are legible in all kinds of light situations. The lume is about as good as Seiko's lumibrite, which is to say, pretty darn good. But it's no Luminox to be sure. [EDIT: The lume, in my tests, lasts well over a 12 hour cycle in total darkness from just 15 seconds of direct charging with a flashlight. Don't think it's bright at all after those 12 hours, though. But it does have a really nice greenish glow when charged.]

The mineral-crystal is domed, but you can see the time even at a pretty sharp angle. I like the dome, goes with the porthole feel. The face also bears a really nicely done little pyramid-shaped grid pattern. That might be the solar cell, but either way, it's beautiful the way it picks up light.

With the hands, some say they're "phallic" but I think they look more like lit candles. Haven't seen hands like them anywhere, and I get bored with all the pointed-arrow and straight-line designs. And they're nice, fat and visible in the dark. Furthermore, everything's outlined in chrome. Has the look of quality engineering.

[EDIT: The second hand lines up almost perfect with the little markers on the beveled inside edge. It's perfect, spot-on precise 50-59 seconds out of a minute on mine, but it isn't perfect every single time. And it varies from minute to minute which 1-10 markers it misses (but it always nails 30-60 for some reason). You'd never notice, however, unless you put the watch right up to your face and stare at it like a crazy person like I did before writing this. That's a very small amount of play in the movement, and for this price, is impressive. You get the same movement in even the more expensive Eco-Drive divers, by the way (for example, the one with the bright blue face, and the famed "Eco-Zilla"). The minute and hour hands, however, are exact on this, every time.]

As to the date window, I like it small. Generally I know what day it is. I don't need that information taking up half of my watch face. But I even like the font used on it. Looks like it could be used on a Navy decompression table.

The bezel is 60-clicks, compared with Seiko's 120, so it feels a little rough. But I like having it at 60. It's more precise. I'm not going to need to time a half-minute of anything with the rotating bezel, ever. [EDIT: I make perfect pasta by using the bezel, by the way. Impresses the girlfriend. Thumbs up here. Also times parking meters. No more tickets for me. Furthermore, the bezel "breaks-in" after a little while and the spring doesn't feel so choppy.]

The band is really soft. It's not hard or stiff, like others say. It feels like high-grade dive rubber. But I have smaller wrists, it could press into some bigger guys'. The watch looks great on smaller wrists, by the way, due to it's smaller size. Doesn't make me look like a wuss. Big plus there. [EDIT: And due to the friction grid-pattern on the back of the band, it doesn't move around on the wrist at all. It's planted on there now.]

And did I mention the case IS ONE SOLID PIECE OF STAINLESS STEEL? I can't get over that. I haven't seen that on any watch in any price-range. [EDIT: The case is specially cast in a mold from molten steel, not machined.] Just cool. Citizen is so confident in their engineering, they make it that much harder to open. And for water to get in, remember, 300M = 1,000 ft.

Cons:

The screw-down crown. Don't get me wrong, it has a quality feel (doesn't wobble when pulled out) and does it's job. But I'm not going to lie, it's hard to get it screwed down and hard to get it unscrewed because of the steel lip that surrounds it. Seiko's design on the classic SKX007K, for example, is better. However, remember that quartz movement? You'll only need to unscrew that crown about 5 times a year, to set the date for the months without 31 days.

The bezel has printed numbers. These seem pretty durable, whatever they're made of, and I haven't scuffed them yet even after some direct hits. But how much harder would it have been to have the numbers pressed into the bezel?

The crystal is not recessed in the bezel much at all. It'll pick up dings/surface scratches. But hey, it's an affordable watch. It deserves some character. Do not get that crystal anywhere near a brilo-pad though, say, when washing dishes. You'll regret it. It ain't sapphire. [EDIT: And it ain't 2K so who's complaining?]

Summmary:

All in all, great watch with a lot of character. Keeps great time. Comfortable = Not one sharp edge on the thing. Not heavy = forget it's even there. No battery change! One piece of steel! Eco-Drive is fail-safe technology. This watch will give you at least 20 years of maintainence-free time-keeping. And look good doing it. I LOVE these tights, they are great for working out and with the right top and bling, they make for one damn sexy outfit. I've already gone down a size in KD Dance clothes, it feels great to feel great in your clothes and these make you want to MOVE. New York Black KD dance Classic Roll Waist by KD dance, Makers of the Finest Knit Dancewear In the World - Made In New York Extra Small

I was so excited for these tights, but have been disappointed in the fit. They fit great through the legs but there is just too much extra room from the crotch up... Within 5 minutes of putting them on, they start sagging at the crotch in the back. I have washed & dried them multiple times, hoping that they would shrink a bit & resolve the problem, but it has not helped. - Dance - Sexy Figure - Yoga Tart - Leggings'

I just purchased this TV on sale at Penney's because I needed to replace my little one for the kitchen due to the digital change. This TV has a crystal clear picture and I do not have a problem with the sound at all. It picks up all available local channels plus a bunch I never heard of, even on cable. I get around 15 or so, plus one radio channel. I'm only using the telescoping antenna, but it does come with an additional one if needed. It was very easy to set up and I'm extremely happy with it! Eviant T7 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV, Black

I don't usually write a product review but for the 7" Eviant DTV, I had to make an exception. I bought one at JC Penney. I live in the DC/Baltimore area so plenty of stations and plenty of signals. The TV received none of them inside, outside, or with either antenna. I called support, message was to leave a message and they would return the call. No call. Took the TV back, got a second one. Same thing. I emailed tech support which was off-line. No response to either inquiry after several days. Took it back for refund. My experience says bad product, bad support, bad company. Look for a different brand -- I am.

Eviant T7 7-Inch Portable LCD TV, Black

Like many others who have a TV in their kitchen, the DTV switch promised to leave me TV-less, but this was a perfect solution. I tried the converter box 'solution', but the combo of the old 5", with rabbit ears and the converter took up too much space. This TV is perfect. I'm curious when their 4.3" version will arrive.

When I first set it up, it defaulted to auto-scan on startup, which came up with no signals. I bypassed it and went into the menu. The manual scan pulled in 19 channels, which is more than I had with my old TV! I had to fiddle with the antenna to get it to work on most of them, but it's not near a window, so I'd expect that. This DTV transition has been a traumatic experience for my 88-year-old mother, so I'll probably pick one up for her to replace the little TV in her kitchen.

The sound is what I'd expect from a little TV, so I'm giving this a two-thumbs-up.

If it only had a hanger on the back so I could put it on the wall...

After having tried the Haier 7" TV (good quality but poor reception) and the Axion (Would only receive on cable, not through the antenna) I purchased this Eviant. This TV has the best reception by far of the 3 sets that I tried. Very good quality and excellent image for a portable. I would definitely recommend this TV.

As others have pointed out, there is no DC adapter for use in a car, but that is not something I needed. I love the TV. It has a nice picture and sound. It picks up weak signals and it's fun to use. The battery lasts a long time on one charge.

I got this TV for Father's day. Out of the box with their stock antenna, I picked up all of the West Palm Beach Stations (I live in Lake Worth). After some research, I picked up a good outdoor antenna for my 46" TV and hooked this little guy up. Amazingly, I get all of the stations all the way to Miami. TV works great and looks great. It's not 5 stars because I believe there is always room for improvement. This is worth the price of admission if you need a portable device that performs. I am ready for the next hurricane!

So far, so good with this television. I bought it for emergencies, but ended up taking it to work to watch the morning news. I've had no issues with reception and the picture quality is excellent. I don't use it in the car so not having an adapter is not a problem for me. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase.

I was so excited about receiving this TV and in red! However, after setting it up, I noticed that there was no car adapter as described under product description above. All the other companies selling this unit and even one of Eviant's own press releases state a car adapter is included. However, the included manual does not list the adapter in the list of included items. So I called Eviant, was sent to voice mail that said to call Nexstar's tech support at an 888#. Nexstar tech support told me they don't support Eviant products and would not be able to help me. I tried Eviant again, trying a different extension, and was very curtly told (maybe getting a lot of complaints?) there is NO car adapter for this model - T7. When I explained their own press release said there was, she said they might offer one later in the year. So I thought I would just buy the adapter - less hassle than ordering a different unit. However, Radio Shack said the DC plug was an odd size and none of their dozens and dozens of adapters fit this TV. So I will return this unit and order the Axion (AXN-8701), a very highly rated unit.

I just received this tv last night. Not a problem setting it up. I agree with one of the reviewers that when I bought the item it did say it included a car charger. When it came to the remote control, I removed the slip separating from the battery compartment and the remote would not work. On further inspection, I removed the battery insert and discovered they did not include the battery, nor do they indicate, in the manual, what kind of battery to use. Amazon stated that it would be impracticable to send the remote back and, for me, to buy a battery and call them and they would credit my account. I did find a notation on the battery compartment door that I believe is the type of battery. In conclusion, TV works the sound and picture is good. Lets hope that is all there was wrong with the order. Would I buy this TV again? Yes unless it breaks down in 30 days. - Black - Highly Recommended - Small Lcd Tv - Battery Operated Tv'

Electric Pencil Sharpener

I purchased this sharpener for classroom use because it was quiet and touted to be extremely efficient in the classroom. One month after beginning use, the sharpener stopped sharpening on one side. I returned the sharpener to the company and was sent another in the mail. The second sharpener never did sharpen on both sides. I tried every pencil in the drawer, some old, some new, various brands, with the same outcome: 1/16th sharpening on one side and full sharpening on the other. I contacted customer service via e-mail and was told the problem was the PENCILS. (Their studies show that many pencils are inferior and dry unevenly, thereby making it impossible to sharpen them.) I then tried other types, brands, etc. No improvement. I finally tried colored pencils, and notified the company that the sharpener would only sharpen colored pencils. They notified me that I had invalidated my warranty by sharpening colored pencils and they were off the hook.

Shortly after I notified the company a second time, I received a very nice e-mail from a company problem solver who settled the problem by sending a Super Pro 6 model. It has two sharpening blades and works beautifully. I suggest you pass on the Quiet Sharp 6 and purchase the Super Pro 6 model to begin with. The dual sharpener solved all problems inherent in the Quiet 6. Stanley Bostitch QuietSharp6(TM) Classroom Pencil Sharpener With 6-holes And Quiet Motor, Blue (EPS10HC)

Just replaced a schoolpro sharpener with this new Bostitch item. Have always been a fan of their staplers, so decided to give this a try. The first thing that really stood out was how quiet it was compared to the schoolpro model. I can actually let the kids sharpen during a lesson without disturbing the class. The sharpening speed is also far superior. I still have the shcoolpro in the classroom, but the kids all prefer the Bostitch due to how fast it is. Another great feature is the magnetic safety switch which gives me added peace of mind when letting the kids sharpen their own pencils.

I've always made do with the frustrating little handheld pencil sharpeners, but no more. I'd forgotten what it was like to have a truly sharp pencil!

I thought this might be a little more pencil sharpener than I needed, until I started sharing it with my mom. She now uses it for all her various sizes and hardnesses of drawing pencils, and she can't stop raving about it. So in addition to schools, it would be a good choice for art classes.

Keep in mind that quiet does not mean silent. It has to make some noise to do its job well, but it IS less noisy than other electric pencil sharpeners.

I've had the unit for about three weeks now, and I'm quite pleased with it. My only issue, and it's minor, is with the catch tray ("shavings receptacle"). It comes off a lot more easily than it goes back on. If you press too hard on the front of the unit to secure the suction cups, the catch tray will come off. Also, be very careful when you go to empty it. Be sure all the shavings are in the FRONT of the tray before you remove it. Otherwise, you could have a big mess on your hands requiring a Dustbuster for cleanup. (Yes, I speak from experience.)

If any problems arise with the unit in the future, I'll adjust my review and rating to reflect such problems. So far, I'm happy to recommend it.

This is the best pencil sharpener that I have ever used. I first saw it in the library at my son's Elementary school. That evening I found it at Amazon and purchased it for a fantastic price. This sharpener is quiet and fast and leaves a point that is strong and sturdy. I recommend this over many other products that are on the market.

I will not begin to count the NUMEROUS sharpeners we've had throughout the YEARS!!!! I will simply say that I absolutely love my 'SMURF'. We named it that. My kids should be in college when the time comes to empty the shavings tray, it is massive. The device is quiet (unlike my kids) and it has suctions underneath to prevent one of my lil ANGELS from knocking it off the table. I absolutely love it. The dial for additional pencil widths is a plus. I read a lot of the reviews and teachers gave high marks for the quality and performance. I have to agree. For those that look for negative reviews; you won't find one here. I am a happy lil momma. STANLEY BOSTITCH SHARPNER RULES. Thank you.

This Sharpener is Awesome! It sharpens all types of pencils quickly and quietly. I love that it automatically stops when the pencil is sharp. Works like a dream in my classroom. Thirty-five students go through a lot of pencils in a fourth grade classroom during the year. I've used other electric sharpeners. This one is the best.'

Computer - amd, ddr3

Ok. For those who are Intel fans or for those who are not sure about this CPU, let me say a few words. I am an Intel fan and I own all Intel CPUs. Now, that being stated here comes the facts. I am a scientist and I work in a lab with 9 more people including other scientists and research assistants. We have 6 computers in the lab, all with same amount of RAM and storage: 4 computers are using Intel Core i7 960 Bloomfield. The other 2 computers are using this processor (Phenom II X6 1055T). All of us randomly work on and switch around these 6 computers during our 10 hour work day. We use all sorts of scientific software from data analysis to databases to performing complex scientific calculations. Noone notices any difference in performance. Noone says "yes, I was on the AMD computer and it took a bit longer to finish." Noone says "It's taking a while because I am on the AMD." If there is a difference in performance, it is so small that it is not noticeable in these tasks. I can't comment on gaming performance. We don't play games. In summary, this is an excellent CPU for the price. AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor (HDT55TFBGRBOX)

AMD has delivered and this 6 core CPU is less than 1/4 the cost of Intel's 6 core CPU. In addition the new core now supports Turbo mode and it really puts it on par with the Intel core i7 but at a fraction of the price. The 6 core CPU will ensure this processor will last for years to come.

This performance improve is very apparent once I upgraded from my quad core. Best of all, it works with my older motherboard and RAM. A bargain for little over $200.

I've had this processor for almost a month now and I love it. Great performance and stability, affordable price and a great overclocker. No cons to this purchase that I have found.

I think one important thing to note for people who do overclock their processors is that this chip overclocks at least as well as the 4 core chips, so there really is no downside for gaming, etc... to pick 6 cores over 4. With Turbo Boost, this thing will run faster than the default clock on up to three cores, so if you have any games that only use one or two cores, you'll get great performance given the game's limitations.

After some careful tweaking, I now have my rig running rock stable at 3.8Ghz, with Turbo Boost set to run at 4.05 Ghz!

If you do plan on Overclocking, make sure to spring for a good cpu cooler. this is the one I settled on and even after running Prime 95 on all 6 cores in an 80F room, core temp stays below 60C!

I paired the processor with a great new motherboard, which has nice features, great stability and superb overclocking support:

All running on Windows 7 Professional 64Bit:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NGQLIE/ref=oss_product

Overall performance is incredible. This processor also dynamically adjusts load between the six cores. Have a game or app that only runs on 2 cores? The processor will bounce the threads from one core to another, to even out the load and help evenly spread heat generation. AMD's Cool n' Quite also works very well with this processor. Testing benchmarks with Cool n' Quiet on or off made zero difference in performance under load, but the technology will intelligently and dynamically adjust processor speed on each core independently, from a low of around 1.2 Ghz up to the Turbo Boost Speed, as needed. This saves on energy consumption (core voltages adjust with the speed adjustments) and helps keep your system running cool under normal use.

I've also found that this new system plays very well with Windows 7 sleep mode, with time needed to put the system to sleep or wake it back up again being around 5 seconds! All the fans in my system are shut down in sleep mode as well, so it's a true energy saving sleep solution.

To end, I want to stress that you will probably want a good cooler, maybe even if you don't plan to overclock. The Zalman Performa made a huge difference in core temps at idle and under load and runs more quietly than the stock fan, under most conditions. To get the best of this, or any processor, you want to make sure the other components are a good match to the CPU as well.

Bought this to replace my aging Phenom 9850. Not counting the BIOS update for a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P and backplate heatsink mount (CM Hyper Z600), the upgrade was pop-out the old, pop-in the new, and boot 'er up.

The first thing I noticed in the BIOS were that the temperature changes from Phenom to Phenom II X6 were amazing. My old original Phenom 9850, whose series was known for being very hot-running, would idle at 37c reported in the BIOS. With the same heatsink and thermal compound used, the X6 idled around 22c at stock clocks. At stock settings I never saw it climb above 35c in an hour's worth of AMD Overdrive stress testing, or Everest Ultimate Stability Testing.

Overclocking is amazing as well. Going from a CPU that couldn't overclock 500MHz if its life depended on it, I was surprised when I went from the stock 2.8GHz to 3.64GHz with a bus bump to 260 and a volt bump to 1.35v. Just to see if I could, I overclocked it to 4GHz with 1.45 volts, and it was stable for an hour or two in AOD/Everest, and a 3DMark Vantage run, but I set it back to 3.64 since there's no need for the extra power. It still won't get to above 40c with normal usage.

Even though I'm a gamer, I didn't buy a six-core expecting improvements in games by adding two more cores, but it got rid of the CPU bottleneck in Bad Company 2. A lower-end CPU in a game like Bad Company 2, which eats through low-end quad cores like they're nothing, can often cause the CPU to climb to 90% use, which creates a bottleneck in the graphics card. If you've got a monitor (a Logitech G15 keyboard is an invaluable peripheral) showing usage of both, you can see that if the CPU is maxed out, the GPU will be sitting back picking its nose being used about 40%. Getting this processor got rid of that and almost doubled my FPS, though it didn't do much for other games, but graphics cards matter for games more than the CPU does as long as the CPU can keep up (It's why you don't see Intel's i7s beating any of AMD's Phenom II quads by more than a few FPS in games when the resolution and settings are maxed out)

The stock heatsink didn't go on this build, but I did use it in a second build that was one of the aluminum blocks that come with the Athlon II series. The 1055T comes with one of the heatpipe based heatsinks you usually find in a Black Edition processor box, and lowered the temperatures of the Dual-core Athlon II it went on by a few celcius. It gets loud if it's set to run at 100% all the time, but it's PWM, so it can be set to run at lower RPMs until the CPU starts getting hot, in which case it's not bad at all.

One interesting thing to note is that the Cool'n'Quiet feature seems to be integrated into the processor itself now. Even with CnQ disabled in the BIOS, I'll see CPU-Z read the processor at 1GHz with lowered volts every now and then, and sometimes at the normal 3.64GHz with volts of around 1.2v. It hasn't been a problem so far, and they go right back up to where they need to go with even a slight work load put on the CPU. I didn't see the Turbo Core working when I was monitoring the CPU at stock settings, so I disabled it when OCing.

All-in-all the 1055T is a great processor for those looking to build a system, but don't want to pay Intel's insane prices, or for those with aging quad-cores, or lower-end (Athlons and etc.) processors that are seeing a bottleneck. I don't believe it's worth it to go from a Phenom II X4 to one of these, but for everyone else, it's great. Even though it's not a Black Edition, it's got some serious overclocking potential when paired with the right heatsink. AMD's made another great one. - Am3 - Ddr3 - Accessories - Amd'
