Pro Evolution Soccer - kickass games, soccer

First, let me start by providing my experiences with FIFA 2011. After reading rave reviews on FIFA 2011, I decided to give it a try after skipping FIFA 2010 (also had glaring reviews) and going with PES 2010. You can read my review on FIFA 2011, but bottom line is I ended up selling it mainly due to unrealistic and indistinguishable gameplay despite FIFA touting the "realistic" gameplay.

Unrealistic because you can never execute a deadly thru-pass with a top player with just one lowly defender who stood between you and the forwards running/waiting for that thru-pass. A defender would always intercept the pass unless you direct the pass to a completely open area which defeats the purpose. In real life, playmakers like Gerrard, Iniesta, Xavi, etc provide deadly thru-passes toward inside the box past 2-3 top defenders.

Indistinguishable because no matter which team you play or who you're controlling, they all have the same characteristics and speed. Messi or Ronaldo can't out run a lowly defender. The game was boring and tedious. I loved FIFA's clean presentation, soundtracks, editing capabilities, even down to customizing the chants, but it failed to deliver in gameplay and fun factor which is the core of any video games.

So I went back to PES series and my experiences have been mostly positive. PES 2011 have a much more streamlined and clean interface. You still don't have all the licenses or real stadiums but the game play is so much better and exciting compared to FIFA. First and foremost, you can forget about all your previous skills that you may have acquired from previous PES series. The new gameplay takes some getting used to, especially the new camera angle. There is no tele angle which showed most of the playing field panning side to side following the controlling player/ball. It is now been replaced with "wide" angle with options to follow the ball or the players. When you're deep inside the opponent's half trying to provide crosses, the angle is skewed much like the "broadcast" angle that you really can't see your players waiting inside the box with a quick glance, so you really have to rely on radar. However, with practice and some getting used to, it quickly became a non-issue. The gameplay is much more realistic and fluid with no "ball sticking" that plagued previous PES series. Passing now requires well timed direction and control with power gauge indicator. But most importantly, thru-passes work in PES unlike FIFA. I can pin point and execute thru passes between defenders and experience the gratification of forwards receiving them leading to a potential goal. There are definite differences on players' mobility and skills when you're controlling a top player as opposed to other players. Messi can out run and execute some deadly feints to get past a defender, Drogba can bully couple of defenders with his size and strength, and other players' real life skills are accurately portrayed in PES 2011.

Online play is more accessible now with instant game matching within Exhibition menu as opposed to drilling down inside Online menu. I did not experience any noticeable lags even with subpar network connections. The new game plan (tactics/strategy) with drag-and-drop interface is so easy and intuitive that I find myself tinkering with different settings - something that I haven't done often in previous PES. Feint settings where you can combo series of feint moves with the right stick is also a welcome addition and fun to watch.

Sadly, this game isn't perfect. There are some glitches or short-comings:

- I lost control of my players when I accidentally pressed series of buttons on my controller. CPU took over and was controlling both teams as if the game is running in demo mode. I regained full control after a dead ball. Fortunately, I've only experienced this once.

- There are some graphic "tearing" when players are near or inside the goal. They go through the goal net with some eerie effects.

- Penalty kick system should be completely gutted and reworked. I really liked FIFA's "metered" or "gauged" controlled penalty kick system.

Minor issues aside, I'm enjoying PES 2011 more than FIFA 2011 and I think it's unfortunate that PES 2011 don't get the credit or fair reviews that it deserves from the game review community. You could find a number of high reviews for FIFA but only a handful of lukewarm reviews on PES. Not that I rely on these so called professional game reviewers' verdicts dictate my purchasing decisions but still, I think it's a shame.

Pros:

1. Realistic gameplay and physics without sacrificing fun factor in soccer simulation game

2. Ease of menu navigation and game plan (tactics) settings

3. Reliable, quick and fun online gameplay

4. Does not require online access code you have to enter like FIFA

Cons:

1. The new gameplay and camera angles take some time getting used to

2. Some graphic glitches but this could be ironed out on future updates

3. Bad, inconsistent penalty shootout system

Overall, PES 2011 is a step in right direction and despite some minor issues, it's still a fun game that you should definitely experience. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011

I just got the game yesterday and only played one game under Professional difficulty with RM vs Milan. I won 4-2. I felt the control is much different from the previous versions, which need some time to get used to. The only complain that I have is the camera angle, which, sometimes, is hard to identify the right direction to pass and shoot, especially under the new passing system. Also, the strategy setting is a little to complicated to me. End of the day, we are just trying to play some soccer, not trying to play the Football Manager game. Other than that, the game looks great to me.

PS. I have been a PES and WE fan for over 10 years. No matter how good people say FIFA is, I aint to touch it. PES is for hardcore soccer fans. - Soccer - Pes - Playstation 3 - Kickass Games'

Greeting Cards

I am very pleased with my purchase.

I couldn't find this Feather Edge Greeting Card paper in the stores

or on line and I just love the look of the greeting cards made with

this card stock. This was also the first time that I got such a deal

on the price of this card stock and so I took advantage of the price

and purchased six boxes and I will do it again if they get more stock

in at the same price and the delivery was also very fast. Avery Half-Fold Feather-Edge Greeting Cards for Inkjet Printers, 5.5 x 8.5 Inches, Ivory, Pack of 20 (3251)

I use this product with a Hallmark card-software program and the finished product has always been perfect. The feather-edge gives the finished card a professional appearance and - with the high cost of store-bought cards these days, is a bargain as well.

I live in a retirement community. I made one card and everyone liked it so much that I now have a job of making all the cards for our morning coffee group birthdays, and other important occasions.I contribute it to the beautiful paper.

Polly

We used this paper to send out about 200 invitations to our 50th wedding anniversary using MS Publisher to work up the format. Looked quite nice.

Other reviews have pretty much described the paper; the "texture" is very thin lines about 1/32" apart embossed in the paper and runs the same direction as the fold in the card. The envelop is also textured and the lines run from left to right.

The feathering is on one end of the paper and on the envelop flap. Might note that we used eleven boxes and the paper size varied in length from box to box by as much as 1/4" but within given box, the paper was pretty uniform.

Print quality with our HP Officejet Pro L7680 printer was fine. However, when you read on the Avery package that this product was intended for single copy printing, believe it. Our printer would NOT reliably feed even a few copies automatically. The same is true with the envelops; they also had to be printed one at a time. AND - we had to tuck the flap inside the envelop or a good percentage of the envelops would not feed through straight.

One final printing note: the printer had difficulty properly registering the paper when the feathered edge was fed in first. Perhaps 10 - 15% would print slightly crooked on the page, or too close to the feathered end or both. Never found a solution to that other than to rotate the page 180 degrees in Publisher and feed the paper the other direction.

All that said, overall we were pleased with the resulting invitations and will be using more of this card stock.

Was so excited to try this product -as I really like the other textured cards I have purchased. I use them to create my personal stationery and the texture really conveys a special quality. However, the textured paper used for this product was an unfortunate choice, because it was a very thin stripe -a striated effect-- which led to not only uneven printing ( using my HP7400), but also when writing on it with a rolling ball pen.

Now--if they would change the paper to the one that is used for textured cards that don't have the feathered edge and use it for these as well, then it would be a really great product!

The Avery Half-fold Feather-Edge greeting cards for inkjet printers is the best card stock I have found. It makes the most beautiful cards. They are very easy to use and look professionally done. I love them!!!

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Avery Half-Fold Feather-Edge Greeting Cards. The invitations I used them for look very professional. The service on my order was excellent, and I received my order in a timely manner.'

Cordless Electric Mower

<SUMMARY> In a crowded field the Toro compares well based on it's performance - it cuts and mulches *very* well. Where it falls short is on features and to a lesser extent, construction. If I had to do it again, I'd take a closer look at the B&D CM1936. Both of these mowers were the top picks in the March 2010 Consumer Reports. I would rate this as 4+ stars overall but ding them half a star for customer service. The redesigned packaging should resolve the numerous issues people seem to have had with shipping damage.

I've had this machine for a whole season and was able to test it back to back with our B&D CMM1000 24V 19" cordless mower before I sold it some months back. To make things fair I sharpened the B&D and cleaned the deck. The Toro was substantially quieter and easier to maneuver (It's lighter and the weight is biased towards the rear wheels. After 12 years the B&D is still an impressive machine but in tall or wet grass it simply couldn't keep up. I had to re-mow with the B&D while the Toro gave a good cut with a single pass - even when walking quickly! You could hear the motor slow down but it still gave an excellent cut and mulched effectively.

The improved performance isn't surprising given the extra voltage. I'd note that when we bought the Black & Decker CMM1000 ~11 years ago, the only other cordless mower was the Neuton 14" via mail order. Now there are more than you can shake a stick at (SEE CHART)

Fit and finish is good but some items do not inspire confidence. The plastic motor cover is flimsy though it's hard to judge as two of the plastic bosses were broken (more on that later) Where the charger plugs in wobbles a lot and the locknut holding the circuit breaker in place was half off with no Loctite applied. This would have been lost within the first hour of use. Finally, the first time I tried to attach the grass catcher I had to wrestle with a wire which interfered with the grass door.

The handle folds but it's the same others - you have a large plastic wingnut you have to turn...and turn...and turn... Hasn't anyone come up with a better quick release for this?

The metal deck makes a big difference - it's deeper and mulches more efficiently, and makes for a smaller overall mower - despite this, our old B&D CMM1000 feels slightly more solid. Also, The B&D had a proper "Mulch Plug" while the Toro mulch cover allows grass to collect in a hollow area behind the mulch door - despite this, I never noticed the grass clumping. The one annoyance is that you have to tilt the mower to dump this out or you are going to be dragging it into your garage.

Also the Toro's metal deck allows the blade to get much closer to fences and trees. With the B&D, the 2 layer plastic deck was much thicker so the blade was at least 3" away. This is more like 1" <UPDATE> It's the wheel placement. If you lay a straight edge across the outside of the wheels, there's 1/2" to the Toro blade but 1-1/2 inches on the Black and Decker. Unfortunately the Toro seems to waste this advantage on one side as the handle sticks out so that it rubs if you mow with a fence on your right.

Toro says "Lighter than most other cordless mowers" but I'm not so sure (SEE CHART)

I have mixed feelings about the on/off switch. I preferred the dead mans bar on the B&D rather than this lever, which forces you to keep your right hand on the handle at all times. On the other hand, you can power off when crossing a sidewalk or driveway just by relaxing your grip.

Overall, this mower performs well but doesn't of the other features / details right. For the price, I think the B&DCM1936 offers a lot more, but if flat out mowing performance is your criteria, this is the one for you.

I might be biased towards B&D given our 10+ trouble free years with their CMM1000, but you could say that I might also have a favorable bias towards the Toro since I received it through Amazon Vine.

<TORO CUSTOMER SERVICE>

I received this item with some minor damage. There are 4 screws which hold the top plastic cover on. Two of the screw bosses were broken. When I removed the cover, I saw that the two zip ties holding the batteries down were also broken. Finally, one of the rear wheel adjusters was bent. I called Toro up and after a Looooong time on hold they told me to either pay to have it repaired myself or to go through Amazon and return it. Not really worth the hassle and rather frustrating.

<LIKES>

+ 36 volts gives LOTS of power - mulches effortlessly

+ 20 inch cutting path (really 19-5/8", but our 19" B&D was only 18-1/2)

+ Tall metal deck gives more complete mulching

+ Wheel placement BIG plus for cutting next to fences, trees

<DISLIKES>

- Toro Customer Service

- Does not store vertically like the B&D

- Wheels adjust individually

- No dead man bar

- Grass catcher very small (perhaps 1/2 the volume of the B&D)

- Charger plug wobbles

- Bar not as ergonomic, also rubs against fence when mowing alongside.

I've put a quick guide of the most popular models on Amazon. All info reported by manufacturer. Amazon won't let me put prices in my review, sorry!

<FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS>

>>Why SHOULD I get a cordless electric mower? They are super quiet, clean, and convenient. They aren't necessarily cheaper than a gas mower since they cost more up front but there is almost NO maintenance. (We spent [...] over 10 years for a set of replacement batteries.) Corded electric mowers are a lot cheaper but then you have a cord. Also, certain models like the B&D can be stored vertically since there is no oil or gas to leak out

>>Why SHOULDN'T I get a cordless mower? Up front cost (Typically [...] more) Also, They weigh significantly more than gas mowers so if you have a hilly lot or have difficulty with physical exertion, forget it. They don't have as much power as gas (even the 36V ones) and re-fueling means charging for a few hours so if your lot is over ½ acre you may want to reconsider.

>>Why do they all come with mulching PLUS bagging? Electric powered mowers have come a long ways but mulching still takes a LOT more power than discharging, so bagging is pretty much a standard feature for when you let your grass get too long.

>>What is a watt-hour? It's basically how big your gas tank is - the more watt-hours, the longer you can mow before you have to recharge.

>>Is the cutting path a big deal? It can be - 1) The first thing manufacturers do when power is marginal is reduce the blade size, so I tend to see the smaller mowers as more likely to be underpowered. Second, when you consider a ~3" overlap on each pass, a 20" blade effectively cuts 13% more than an 18" (especially since manufacturers generally inflate their blade lengths by about 1/2") If you have a larger yard, you definitely do NOT want anything under 18"

>>Why might I want a removable battery? If you have a large yard, you can swap out for more run time (Note that a second battery typically costs [...]). Also, You WILL need to replace the batteries eventually, and a this makes it easier (Note that I replaced the CMM1000 batteries by myself, about a 20 minute job requiring only a screwdriver and pliers) Finally, if you keep the mower in a shed that doesn't have power, a removable battery will let you bring it in for charging.

>>Why should I care about higher voltage? Higher voltage = more power, PLUS you can recharge the mower faster. With the same chemistry and current, a 36V mower will charge 50% faster than a 24V mower.

>>Metal deck or plastic? Metal rusts but with minimal care it's not an issue. Plastic does get scratched up, and since it isn't as strong, it makes for a larger mower.

How To Draw - cartooning, marvel comics

The art of drawing comics can be very demanding, and any attempt to create a how-to that can teach all of its elements in equal depth is doomed to imperfection. That being said, this is a good starting point for young artists who think they may have some skill and need to know what to do with it.This was one of the first real "how to draw comics" books and has become a classic over the years. The book describes the tools of the trade, the terms used, and the "Marvel" creation process, covers the basics of anatomy, form, perspective, layout, and the use of black, gives techniques on inking and lettering, and shows examples of how the art can make a story more exciting. Stan Lee's prose is fun to read and John Buscema's art is very clear in illustrating the principles being taught. If Buscema's art looks a little dated today, it may be because first off, this book was made to be simple and easy to understand, and the art is done likewise, not cluttered up with intense detail and crosshatching. It may also be because he has a solid foundation of a knowledge of anatomy and how to compose a picture for maximum clarity and effect which, unfortunately, certain influential contemporary artists don't have. This book does not have the room to go into depth on the deeper concepts of comic theory (how to lay out a page, for instance, or how words and images can be used together to heighten mood). For that I would reccomend Will Eisner's "Comics and Sequential Art." For giving a good, basic overall foundation, however, this book does, however, deserve a place on the shelf of any comic artist. How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way

I think every serious or aspiring artist should own this book. I've had a copy since the early '80s, andit became so dog-eared from frequentuse, that I had to buy another. John Buscema is an excellent teacher. After all, if you're goingto learn to draw, you might as well learn from the best; and John IS the best, IMO. Among other things, the book contains vital rules for drawing in perspective, and drawing lifelike human faces and figures. This is not just a book for comic fans, or kids, it's for everyone!

This is not only the best and most comprehensive book in learning to draw comic book style art, this has some of the most basic, yet most critical drawing techniques, techniques such as the vanishing point, character swatches, layouts and breaking figures down into shapes, for example... I did not have this advantage when I was learning to draw. When I started out as a child, I discovered all of these techniques the difficult way, through trial & error...A process that regrettably takes years. I wish I knew about this book when I was a kid. If I had, I would have advanced so much more as an artist, I couldn't even imagine where I'd be today. Anyways, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning how to draw, period. This really is THE book, people. Search no more. It LITERALLY contains everything I know on drawing techniques (& I've been drawing since I've been old enough to hold a pencil). And not only is it informative, it's extremely fun! The way they present thier lessons, reading & practicing along with it makes you feel like you're goofing off with a comic book, as if you weren't learning anything (although you are). Ideal for those with a 30 sec.(or less) attn. span. The only thing that keeps me from rating it 5 stars, however, is that they should encourage readers to take up more of an interest in drawing real life, things around you, as well as comics. Because it's real life elements that serves as inspiration for the true comic book artist. Real life drawing is the foundation for comic book style art.

I received this book over 20 years ago, and I can't begin to tell you how it ignited a fire within me to draw. This is a great book for those who wish to draw superhoroes, but don't have a clue where to start. There are very few books that we remember as we age, but for me this is one of them.

A bestseller for people of beginning-to-intermediate ability, this book has been an inspiration to many, many people...

Its real popularity and genius lie in its effective use of exciting, pencil-drawn Marvel characters to give us a basic understanding of Marvel comic-making in general. It's *still* one of the BEST introductions to comicbook making available today.

My favorite things here: Stan Lee's writing- he keeps things lively & entertaining; John Buscema's drawing- his pencil drawings in this book compare favorably with even *today's* newest professionals (at least in my opinion...); the *entire* chapter on drawing the human head; the crisp pencils & teaching in chapters 9 & 10- on composition & penciling the actual professional comics page; *every* Jack Kirby drawing; and then maybe most inspirational & influential of all- this book's semi-*famous* Bibliography (???)...

It's true- The reason this part is semi-famous is because it successfully recommends to us some of the BEST how-to-draw type teachers ever: George Bridgman, Burne Hogarth, Ernest Watson, Jack Hamm, etc. Personally, I prefer *different* titles than what's recommended here (e.g. My favorites= The Book of a Hundred Hands; Dynamic Figure Drawing; and The Art of Pencil Drawing), but mentioning these authors effectively steers a person in the right direction. In this sense- this Bibliography *itself* is worth the entire price of the book(!). Many professionals *today* have picked up skills from these great teachers. In conclusion: Highly Recommended!

I'll start off by admitting that this book is a bit on the begginers level. However, the first time I picked up this book was when I was seven. Over the years I kept checking it out of the library over and over just to draw the pictures in the book. I didn't even read it until I bought the book at the age of 16. Any time since then that a person has asked me how they can learn to draw super heroes, I always reference this book. I tell them to skip the reading, draw everything, and then go back to read it, then draw everything after they do that.

It's an easy read and was truely inspirational to me in developing my own style of comic art. One of my top favorite books ever.

Battery Charger - rechargeable batteries, la crosse

UPDATE: (02-21-2011) It has been more than 2 1/2 years since I wrote this review. This charger is still working great!

I have owned at least 8 chargers in the past, Maha's, Panasonic, etc. It is nice to see that this charger shows you the mAh on the LCD panel as the battery charges up. Most chargers you only see an LED indicator to signal when charging is done.

Compared to the specs of BC-900, the BC700 can only go up to 700mAH (the max) which means it is somewhat slower than the BC900. But the faster the battery charges, the hotter it gets. And one of the worst enemy of rechargeable batteries is heat. Less heat means longer life for the batteries.

Pros:

- 3 adjustable charging speeds

- Will show you the actual capacity in mAh. This is good so you know which battery needs to be refreshed. You always want to use batteries with the same capacities in pair or in a group.

- 4 independent charging stations with individual LED readouts. "AA's" and "AAA's" can be charged in different combinations. Don't you hate those gadgets that only use 3 batteries like portable radios? (walkie-talkies). You end up with 1 un-used battery if you bought a 4-pack. How will you charge it if your charger only charges in pairs?

- Reasonable price for an excellent charger

- Small and light. Better portability

- Multi-volt up to 240v. Very useful if you travel a lot to other countries.

Cons:

Now I have to stop myself doing impulse buying on NiMh's because I enjoy using this charger too much. La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power Battery Charger

Just in case you were looking for the La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower Battery Charger: please be advised that ths is NOT the same charger.

Except for the color, the BC700 looks exactly the same as the better-known BC900. However, it is actually a "handicapped" version of the old charger. Its charging current can only go up to 700mA in three steps (200/500/700). The BC900, on the other hand, can go up to 1000mA for 4 cells, or 1800mA for 2 cells. Also the BC900 package includes eight NiMH rechargeable cells (4 AA and 4 AAA), eight C/D cell adaptors, and a carrying case. The BC700 does not come with any bonus items.

This is not to say that the BC700 is a bad product. Quite the contrary, it is better than any other NiMH AA chargers in the market except for BC900 and Maha MH-C9000. If you can find it at a substantial saving (like maybe 30% off from the price of BC900), it is still a good buy. But as it is right now, I recommend getting its older brother instead.

[update on June 13, 2008]

Recently the price of BC700 has settled to a level much lower than that of BC900 (partially because the price of BC900 has gone up), so it is now an excellent buy - especially if you intend to buy some low-self-discharge NiMH cells separately. In light of this, the criticism in my original review now seems unnecessarily harsh. Too bad I'm not allowed to change the star-rating for this product.

[Update on April 7, 2010]

I hope my overly critical review above did not discourage anyone from buying the BC-700. As of this moment, it is the best value if you are looking for an advanced battery charger/analyzer. This is because:

- The BC-9009 has been recalled recently due to excessive overheating/meltdown incidents.

- The Powerex WizardOne Battery Charger-Analyzer is more powerful, but costs twice as much as the BC-700.

- The newest La Crosse BC500 has severely limited functions compared to the BC-700 (see my review for details), yet it costs more.

This is a great charger and when I bought it it was about $15 less than the BC-900. Now the BC-900 is less than this charger. The difference between this charger and the BC-900 is the lack of the faster charging speeds and the accessories. Definitley buy the BC-900 and the accessory package for less money. It seems they are constantly playing games with the pricing on these two chargers. The BC-700 charger does a great job of reconditioning batteries and the charging speed is usually between 2-3 hours for the different capacity batteries that I have. (1800mh - 2650mh). Time is not an issue for me as I have about 10 sets of AA's and can just keep swapping them out. From what i've read the slower charging speed is better for the life span of your battery any way.

I am a medium to heavy user of AA & AAA rechargeable cells and also an early adopter - started with 300mah Panny NiCds many years ago - I remember the excitement when 450mah versions were released! :-) Over the years I graduated through the technologies and was using Sanyo NiMH 2500mah cells till I recently discovered Eneloops - they are simply amazing! Now back to the charger review - I have always been an advocate of chargers that have individual charging channels / circuits and can charge 1,2,3 or 4 cells individually. My earlier charger was a Panasonic BQ390-A that still works very well and is very portable. However, faster & adjustable rate charging currents, battery reconditioning, testing etc. drew me to the BC700.

I did not consider the BC900 as the 8 cells bundled with the package were of no use to me (I have enough to last many years) and the 1.8A charging current capability on the BC 900 is something that I would never use.

Amazon was great in it's order processing - as always. I received the charger on schedule. The quick user guide printed on the back of the charger package is a really nice touch. I was eager to test the unit and unpacked and set it up. And that is when I noticed that -ve tab for the AA cell in the 3rd channel was too far behind to connect with the cell. After looking at it closely, I figured that the tab was bent backwards - at least that is what it looked like - very dissapointing for a brand new unit that was packed so well! This is the only reason that I cannot give this Charger a better rating - poor manufacturing processes and very poor quality control!

Having never seen the innards of an intelligent charger, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try and fix it myself. On dismantling the unit completely and removing the PCB - I discovered that the tab was indeed bent back and had not engaged with the plastic channels on the top of the case that hold these tabs in place when the PCB is inserted. After some delicate work with a needle nose pliers the tab was straight once again and it engaged with the channel.

I must warn others toying with the idea of opening their units - DO NOT TRY IT unless your unit is out of warranty AND you really have a need to AND you are a very capable and advanced electronics hobbyist - putting the BC700 back together is a very complex task - especially aligning the LCD panel contacts with the contacts on the main PCB - if that gets spoilt, the LCD display will be dead and so will the charger!

In my case I managed to put it all back together again and the charger works perfectly now. It is very easy and intuitive to use and does everything that it is supposed to. I prefer the 500mah charge rate and it charges 4 AA Eneloops in a little over 4 hrs.

So this is a happy ending to the story/review. As mentioned earlier, my only concern is with the Manufacturing and QC processes followed by La Crosse - it was indeed very disappointing to see such a basic (and visible) flaw in a brand new unit! It makes one wonder whether there are any other flaws that have not been noticed till now ... I guess time will tell ... - Rechargeable Batteries - Battery Charger Aa Or Aaa - Nimh - La Crosse'

Dust-off works well. However, due to the bitterant, it leaves a foul odor in the air when dispensed for too long. The can design needs work, if the sprayer comes off it is difficult to realign, making dispensing VERY difficult. Dust-Off DPSXL6 XL Compressed Gas Duster

It was buy a two-pack for $15, or a six-pack for $22. I went with the six-pack, tho i figure each can will last me half a year at least...

I use these to dust out my PC, and it works great. No complaints. - Compressed Air'

Sirius Xm - sirius xm, xm radio

This is installed in two steps:

1) Install the antenna. This is the "hard" part. You can either put the antenna outside of the car and route inside or in the windshield/ back window. I have a four door and put the antenna on the back shelf behind the back passenger headrest and then just routed the wire. Recption has been A+ and no wires hanging out.

2) Install the unit -- This took me about 10 seconds to do. Just plug into the cigarette Lighter(2 seconds) and tune the FM Radio(8 seconds) to the right channel

Sound is excellent. I think SiriusXM figured out how to make the car electrical system a radio transmitter so the signal is super strong for my car radio to pick up on. So, no bleed over, no buzzing, no interference.

Unless you're looking for alot of bells and whistles.. this is as good as it gets and its CHEAP!!!! AudioVox XM XSN1V1 Snap Radio

The good:

Small footprint

Minimal wiring required as the antenna and aux out plug into the lighter adapter

Cleaner look when installed

Cheap

The bad:

The display doesn't scroll like other XM/Sirius radios

Difficult to change channels using preset buttons

5 presets total

Menu has 2 options Audio level and ID

I had an old Sirius Sportster Replay and replaced it with the XM Snap. Having used a full sized unit in the past the things I miss are the full size display and more presets. The biggest issue with this radio I have found is that it is difficult to change the channel as the preset buttons require a firm press and the radio is only supported by the lighter adapter which allows for some movement of the radio. No complaints about the audio quality. You basically give up some functionality and usability for the small size and simple installation.

When you've been around long enough you learn that everything represents some sort of compromise.... There are few if any clear wins.

The XM Snap! provides an easy, minimal way to get XM going in your car. It is seeming the "best" solution for this in my wife's 2008 Lexus RX350 w/Nav. There were other "better" ways, e.g. $300 (aftermarket) -> $700 (dealer) bits that integrate w/the head unit, but that's wwaayyy too much to spend for XM radio (esp considering $12/mo).

If you look at reviews elsewhere for this radio you'll see that experience varies WRT its FM transmitter. In our area there are only a few "empty" FM freqs & there is a bit of hiss/static using this (and this method is a bit light in bass) but my wife is not picky. May buy & use a cassette adapter someday. The pluses are many for this small, convenient way to go.

+ low purchase price + promotions. great UI for its minimal size (category arrow buttons, presets, knob w/push scan)

+ if lighter location & FM work well for you, just run antenna wire & plug 'er in. (does have audio & FM out jacks btw)

+ small, easy to stow, nice twisting/angling abilities

- antenna wire shorter than my other XM radios, probably could not neatly make it (tucked in, etc.) from front->top rear hatch location that I did w/other radios. antenna wire also has large right-angle plug & large magnet/choke plastic barrel that make routing harder. Took a while to neatly run wire from front of sunroof & down passenger door mouldings, but no wire is visible.

- only 5 presets, but necessary for small size I guess.

- FM transmitter seems weaker & w/slightly attenuated bass compared to my other Delphi XM SkyFis

But again a nice, simple, small solution if it suites your needs. We're happy with it.

The snap is easy to install, easy to set up and a snap (pardon the pun) to use. The only thing to be aware of is the antenna hook up on the set. It can easily break when moving set from one vehicle to another. I am looking for a solution to that little problem now but all in all a great little radio.

AudioVox XM XSN1V1 Snap Radio

I really like the design and the ease of setup and use. My only complaint is that the FM broadcast feature tends to be pretty weak regardless of which frequency I tune it to. Most of the time, it works great. Some of the time, not so much. If you have a direct line in, no problem!

We bought this XM radio to enjoy satellite radio principally when traveling. It is easy to install although the antenna wires have to be routed around windows and door frames for a nice clean installation. Playing the radio through an open FM station works well. Tip: check the XM website to get the best FM stations to use in specific areas. Put it your zip code and several of the best choices will be presented in order. In areas where there is a lot of FM stations, a hard wire installation probably would be most successful. This require purchasing an additional accessory and removing the car radio for installation. All-in-all, seems to be a great little product with lots of value.

The FM transmitter inside the unit is very weak thanks in part to government regulations and if you live anywhere near a city with a lot of broadcast radio stations you will be hard pressed to get quality sound transmitting through unused FM station.

I've owned the 'Snap' for about 7 months and it has been a generally good experience. Unfortunately, after about 3 months it started having a static or buzz sound constantly in the background. Another owner who posted on the "Sky Dock" thread had this problem, (along with others), and was going to try a shielded audio cord for the aux connection. He hadn't updated, but I had suspected the same thing and went to Radio Shack and bought a 3' shielded cord for about $8. Problem Solved. No more buzz/static and now I'm very pleased with this set-up, which is now hooked up to a 2010 Accord. At the bottom of it all is the fact that XM let these units on the market with a sub-standard aux cord, which was supposed to give the best audio quality. Now it has the best quality; it's great. - Sirius Xm - Xm Radio'

Scratch Remover - cd and dvd polisher, scratch remover

This is a very easy to use product and works betteer and faster than the Memorex dual claener/polisher system I had a few years back. No need to get an automatic cleaner device - this works very well by hand. My only reccomendation is to buy TWO of these instead of just one. This is a true life saver for CD's, DVDS, scratched screens on kid's toys, etc. Audiovox Surface SURF404 DVD/CD/Game Disc Scratch Repair Kit

Product does repair minor scratches. However, deep circumferential scratches (the kind which cause skipping and freezing) were only slightly improved. Even after five or more applications and LOTS of elbow grease, these scratches were not repaired sufficiently to eliminate disk read errors. To repair major scratches, your best choice is definitely the SkipDr Premier.

I used this on 3 of my CDs and 2/3 worked just fine in the stereo in my house but they stilled skipped in my car. The car CD player must be a little more sensitive but I used the product on the CDs a couple more times with no luck. It is good fr small scratches and blemishes but not more extensive problems.

The kit includes a fluid and a microfiber cloth. The fluid is supposed to fill scratches and harden. Well, in my trials on several different CDs, the scratches remained, even with repeated application of the fluid. The "repair" kit boils down to a very nice but overpriced microfiber cloth, which I do use to clean CDs...

I purchased this product to help fix several of my kids' Wii games - four different games had various degree of scratches. One of the games had very "heavy" scratches; obviously deep scratches that ran across the game disc as well as several that ran with the disc tracks. The product did not help this game at all. One of the games had very light scratches; what I call "feather" scratches. Multiple applications of the product did not remove the scratch from the surface, which is what I expected, but I was keeping my fingers crossed that the product would somehow bond and fill-in the surface of the scratch. No such luck.

This product may work fin on other media, but it did not help with Wii games.

I had an Xbox game that got scratched along the whole outer edge because I moved the Xbox while the machine was still spinning (idiot!). That's the worst kind of scratch, I think, but at least it wasn't deep. I used the solution and polished for many minutes. Didn't work. Continued several more minutes. Didn't work, but the scratches were visibly less severe. Finally, figuring I had nothing to lose, I pulled out my Dremel small drill with a felt polishing wheel and went at it with the solution on the disc (I wouldn't recommend this technique generally unless you have nothing to lose). It worked! I can't say for sure it was the solution that did the trick, or could I have just gone straight to the polishing drill? But in the end I got the result I wanted, so I feel compelled to give a positive rating.

I was disappointed with this product. I followed the instructions to the tee and it took me about 6 tries before the wii game started to work. I tried with my other wii game, but there was no hope. I was scrubbing and applying the solution repeatedly for about an hour and the game just didn't work. So, I was disappointed...

I've used this product with a half dozen DVDs that didn't work because of small scratches, and it saved them, totally repaired the imperfections so they're working again like new.

I would recommend it without hesitation.
