I Spit On Your Grave - remake, horror

The worst comments I see with regards to this movie come from both sides of the remake debate. Some argue that it should never have been remade because they are fans of the original. Other argue that it shouldn't be remade because of the concept.

If the concept offends you, pick up your opinions, there's the door - now leave! Don't turn around, just go! I've had enough of the 'it's bad because it's a rape movie' bull. If it's not your cup of tea, so be it! I probably feel as strongly against 'Sex & The City' but you don't see me shooting those fans down because of taste!

Okay, am I good to continue now?

So you're either a fan of the original, new to this movie, or just interested.

Good!

If you're a fan of the original, then I honestly can't tell if you'll like this movie. I HATED the original. I felt it had a very good premise that was poorly executed and in the end just came across as offensive (by the way, I'm female). I thought the concept was good but the manner in which the protagonist went about her revenge was stupid! If a woman has been raped, the very last thing she'd ever be comfortable doing is stripping off in front of the very men who raped her, no matter what her end objective may be! At this point the original made me angry. There's only so much believability I'm willing to sacrifice when I watch a movie - and I'd had enough.

So when I heard this movie was being remade, I was actually quite intrigued. Again, I believed the premise was a good one and I was hoping a new writer and director could do it justice.

They sure did, and some!

The rape scene is brutal and it is hard to watch. However, at the same time, it's not as bad as some make it out to be. I felt it was a perfect balance. It showed enough, without going too far that I felt too uncomfortable to watch any more. There's enough there to shock you and have you empathize with Jennifer when she starts her revenge. It is definitely not as bad as 'Irreversible', a movie I, and many others in the same movie theater, ended up walking out of. When I saw this movie, no one walked out!

I also felt that this movie was never titillating. Nudity is actually kept to a minimum and the only time we see Jennifer completely naked is following her rape where she is in an almost catatonic state, just trying to get away. You'd have to be the sickest of the sick to see anything but the character's fear, humiliation and determination in this scene.

I found the portrayal of the characters to be much more believable this time and the mentally challenged character, Matthew was a million times better than the original. They ditched the dorky glasses (no missing lenses in this film at least) and decided to get someone who could actually act instead! Matthew is played with such childish vulnerability that you find yourself conflicted. He does rape Jennifer, but it was peer pressure and afterwards he feels so guilty that he's effectively torturing himself without Jennifer's help...but, he STILL raped her! It's a tough one!

A great addition to this film is the sheriff. At risk of spoiling the movie, I'll leave it at that but his involvement in this new version was a fantastic move.

When Jennifer's revenge comes into play, you could find yourself often wondering if she's going too far. I never found myself empathizing with the rapists (other than Matthew, to a degree) but I often just wanted her to get it over with already. That enough was enough. It was nice to see such extremes on both sides, to see what people are really capable of. What do the rapists REALLY deserve? How far would YOU go? No one could possibly know unless directly in Jennifer's shoes, so even if you find yourself questioning the extreme nature of her actions, you'll find yourself equally stepping back and thinking - well this is her party, who am I to question how extreme she should be?

The best feature of this movie, though, is that it's a smart movie! There's some nice symbolism in there and it's quite clever the way it plays out. What makes it even better, though, is that you don't have to get any of this to 'get' the movie. It was like an added bonus! In the same way adults watch 'The Simpsons' and get the adult humor, the children who don't get those jokes don't dislike the show any less - they just don't get the whole picture. I don't want to spoil the movie so I won't go into details but the final death was sheer genius. The reversal of roles determining who's the one pulling the strings now! Loved it!

When you hear the work that went into this independent movie and the amount of pride the people involved have in the outcome, it's only fair that you at least give it a chance. I think a lot of people would be pleasantly surprised. The reviews on here are not reminiscent of the reviews out there on the internet, where there's a lot of well placed praise for this movie. Amongst its target audience and horror fans, this movie delivers.

Unfortunately it had a limited release, it didn't even show in the movie theaters where I live (I was lucky enough to visit LA during its run there) but I'm looking forward to the DVD release so my friends can finally see it! I Spit on Your Grave

With the resurgence of exploitation films, we've really brought some unpleasantly vicious movies into the mainstream. Some are good, some are not--just like any genre--but what is fascinating to me is how commonplace they now seem. When I was growing up, pictures like the original "I Spit On Your Grave," "Faces of Death" and "Last House on the Left" were considered vile films and they had to be discovered. A largely underground, low budget, and independent film community had to support these controversial, malicious films. In many ways, they represented a rebellion against conventional entertainment. However, by today's standards these films, while certainly grim, are relatively subdued compared to the graphic torture, violence and gore that delight audiences at the local mall.

Designed to provoke audiences, one thing is certain--few people will be ambivalent about the new incarnation of "I Spit On Your Grave." I know people who think it's terrific AND I know people who think that it is repellant. Just the latest example of the growing market I like to refer to as "torture cinema," ISOYG will have very few viewers straddling the middle ground. While the original film played to the time it was released--there was almost a female empowerment message in the retribution scenario--this new version eschews a specific societal context. Much more gore oriented than its predecessor, it feels distinctly less real. That is either good or bad depending on your vantage point. The amateurish quality of the original lends it a gritty realism that actually works in the film's favor. Combined with Camille Keaton's surprisingly effective performance, the film had the flavor of something that could actually happen. The new version is decidedly more elaborate and the revenge conceptions are more over-the-top. The enjoyment value, thus, is determined by whether graphic brutality qualifies as entertainment for you.

I haven't said much about the film's plot. I think most people know what happens. A young woman is sexually assaulted by a group of men, brutalized, and left for dead. She reemerges with vengeance on her mind--and the men will rue the day they met her. Sarah Butler as the victim in question has some nice moments, but exists largely to service the plot. For me, she lacked the genuineness of Keaton. The men are slightly more developed in this new vision. While barely more than caricatures in either film, they have more shading here--and the mentally challenged character is conceptualized more fully in this edition. The film remains unrepentantly bleak and disturbing and pushes buttons for the sake of pushing buttons. There is no grand meaning to be had--but, quite frankly, I don't think that's why anyone would be watching in the first place.

Mind you, I'm not claiming either version of "I Spit On Your Grave" is a great movie. I do, however, believe that the original was more relevant in relationship to its time period. But this new film is made with technical prowess and visual flair (however unpleasant). Some may claim these films as a feminist treatise, and some as vile female degradation. In truth, they are actually a bit of both--but I don't think that they necessarily merit a serious philosophical discussion. Either way, this film was meant to assault your senses--and that it does! On it's own merits, it succeeds at what it set out to do. If you like gore, you may well like this. If you don't, by all means, stay far far away! Speed Training - fitness gear, weight vests

This is a nice vest for the price. Shipping was sort of expensive, but that's to be expected, I guess. The vest is easy to adjust, but when I adjusted the vest to fit snug, to avoid excessive bouncing while I run, some of the sand weights became hard as rocks and jabbed me in my lower back. There are no problems when you wear the vest loosely, which is what I normally do, since I mainly wear the vest while doing yard work or for additional weight when doing body weight resistance exercises. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my purchase. (Weekly Special Sale - 59% Off/5 Days Only !)ZF 20LBS Comfortable Exercise Adjustable Weighted Vest (One size fits all. For both men and women.WEIGHTS INCLUDED.)

INTRODUCTION: I am a 34 year old U.S. Army soldier in currently stationed in Afghanistan, so you can guareentee that if I am taking time to write a review( down time that I could be using to sleep or write my family)that It will be accurate review based upon actual facts and not emotions.

Setup: I received my MiR 20LBS Comfortable Exercise Adjustable PRO Weighted VEST 5 days ago. I bought it new on sale for [...](New year's sale 60% off marked down from 69.99). It took about a week to get here. Shipping cost me more then what I paid for the vest ($29.99), but it's what I expected it to cost for a 20lb package to be shipped to Afghanistan.

Results after 5 days(approx. 64hrs of wear): So far I am very impressed with the vest, it fits well and is easy to adjust and seems to be made out of really durable material. I tried jumping up and down rapidly for 30 secs and the vest barely moved. The vest is a little bulky under my uniform but I see that as a small price to pay for increase speed and endurance. I only wear it continuously 12-14 hrs a day but since I only got it five days ago I am taking it slowly by letting my body get use to the weight before I start actually exercising with it on. The only down side I see is the burst of energy I feel when I take it off before I go to sleep. I can't wait to take it on a run! Check back for my update when I start exercising and am able to see what this baby can really do!

Good quality material, nice adjustability with the weights, great fit. Thanks, exactly what i was expecting. Don't pay $60 at your super fitness store, purchase this item and you will be happy. I have ran into one problem with the vest which is mostly a problem with my body structure. When wearing the vest, if you plan on running with it on, it may rub on your collarbone. I fixed that with putting my fleece colar under it.

This vest is practically perfect. It is a smaller vest than standard ones which gives you more flexibility as it is easier to move with. the little weights come out easily and are secure when you put them back in. definitely will buy another vest in the future from this company.

I got this vest for bone density - I am slight but active. 5' 5" 110 lbs wet. I am definitely on the bottom end of the one size fits all but it is doable. I started with 10 lbs and am working up. I am happy with it.

I have wanted to get something like this for a while and now I'm glad I did. I find this vest comfortable and a good weight for someone like me who is not an athelete but who wants to make the most of my daily walks.

Very well made for the money and adjustable so that my wife and I can share the same vest for our workouts. This is my first experience with a weighted vest and I primarily use it for walking and short runs. Very pleased with this product.

I purchased this vest under the belief that these were the best weighted vests. While I have enjoyed using it for (boxing, jogging) and see potential benefits it has started to tear in several places after only a couple weeks of use (maybe 5 times). - Weight Vest - Weight Vests - Exercise - Fitness Gear'

Home Improvement - nailer, nail gun

I bought the nailer to install 3/4 inch wood flooring. Using the 16 gauge nailer, I was able to fire 2 inch brads throught the tongue of african rosewood flooring. A flooring nailer is recommended for this job but I was able to accurately hit the sweet spot above the tongue every time. African rosewood is much harder than oak and the nailer handled the job without a problem. I also like the versatility of having the 18 gauge nailer which I used to shoot 1-1/2 inch brads through quarter round molding. This unit is light weight but has plenty of power. For $300, it is well worth the price. DEWALT D55141FNBN 16-Gauge Finish Nailer/18-Gauge Brad Nailer/Compressor Combo Kit

I do a lot of drywall repair and re-texturing of ceilings & wall areas. I had to replace my old compressor which weighed 50 lbs and was looking for something easier to carry. This compressor works fine, is easy to carry but does run low on compression sometimes because of the small tank. This has not been a problem for me because it does recover quite quickly. I have really enjoyed the compressor in my day to day work and have also used both nail guns on a couple of projects. They worked well and made my jobs so much easier. I am really glad that I made the purchase.

I'm not a pro, so I considered purchasing a much cheaper compressor and nail gun to install some trim in my home. I'm glad I decided to spend the extra money for this tool. It's made installing the trim a breeze. I'm looking forward to tackling new projects using this, and it's made me a believer in DeWalt products.

This is my first air compressor but I have had the privilege of using many different portable air compressors (most of them Porter Cable) and this is my favorite. I originally bought this set with general carpentry projects in mind, and I am very glad I did.

Air Compressor Pros:

1. Fills quickly.

2. 2 hose connections are very helpful

3. Metal plate on top protects the motor.

4. Stands up on back for storage so it takes up less floor space.

5. My favorite drain valve I have ever seen on any compressor.

6. Easy to carry.

7. Good placement of power switch on the back.

Air Compressor Cons:

1. 2 Gallon air tank does not allow for much storage.

2. CFM rate is not high enough to use a spray gun for more than short bursts.

Nail Gun Pros:

1. Both nail guns have easy built in safety locks above the triggers.

2. Biggest finish nailer I have ever seen come in an air compressor set.

3. Finish nailer has a good belt clip.

4. The finish nailer once got pulled off my belt and fell onto concrete pavers and did not get a single scratch.

Nail Gun Cons:

1. When you first get the guns they do not come with the hose connectors installed. (They do come with the connectors and Teflon tape but you must put them in.) To protect the guns from any particles falling into them, the guns come with plastic inserts which are almost impossible to remove.

2. The trigger bump on the brad nailer gets jammed in the upright position sometimes.

Accessories:

It came with two accessories I was not aware of at the time of purchase. A single bag big enough for both nailers, the 25' hose included, gun oil, and boxes of nails. It also came with very cheep feeling safety goggles, DPG54M-1D. It did NOT come with gun oil, so to my surprise I had to make a quick trip to the local home depot and buy a $2ish bottle of oil. Also included are the 25' air hose and a bump action trigger (Which I have not used yet).

Other Notes:

1. As you should realize, this kit does NOT come with a staple gun. That can be problematic in some furniture building, especially when applying lewan backing.

2. I bought a 50' hose so I could have two tools attached at the same time and it really comes in handy.

3. You will also want an air gun. They are great for cleaning off sawdust. Also, as I discovered in PC support at school, the air guns are great for cleaning out 8 years of dust from computers.

Im a contractor so the four things i loved about this set in order , what a great price with shipping was still $40 cheaper than homx depox , its so light at 30 lbs , the roll cage made me feel like it was solid and wont get hurt in my truck , its quiet (this was # 4 because its quieter than all oil less compressors ) but its not as quiet as i hoped still great but needs explaning. the sound level is like this if its in the same room you are in it will bug you in 5 min. you can still talk to the guy next to you with only a small raise in your voice, but within minutes the sound will bug you. placed in the next room it was great, no sound problems. also the sound it makes is not a annoying sound like the porter cable pancake(2/3 times louder) (porter put out more air and holds more air so if you need a comp for more than nail gunning the porter is a better option )to me the sound level was about that of a loud vaccumme cleaner which is very good for a compressor hope this helps 5 stars because not perfect but for the money you get SO MUCH. only rated for 500 hrs (bummer)

What a great buy! I bounce from house to house installing windows and doors and this DeWalt Compressor has done it all from framing to finishing. Its easy to carry room to room and up and down stairs, definitely better than the Porter Cable pancake compessor. The two connections for separate hoses is great, especially when working with other people. The guns a very durable. I only wish the finish gun had the angled clip for tight spots like doing crown, but it still get the job done. No complaints about the brad gun. A must buy!

I have used Dewalt tools for the past 10 years and have never taken one to the shop. This compressor kit was a great value for the money but the "pump" died after 30 minutes of use. Fortunately for me a certified repair center was only 15 minutes from home but if you are not close to a center you might want to weight that fact in your purchase (as with any other mail order purchase). My authorized repair center used the serial number and did not even request a purchase agreement for the free repair.

Still, it is a great value and I like the nailers better than other brands I have used in the past. There are sturdy and easy to access a possible jams.

My kit arrived with a travel "bag" but I would prefer if they had include a plastic case - being a little more rugged.

It is the quietest compressor I have ever used for the 125 PSI pressure rating.

Worth the money! - Nail Gun - Dewalt - Combo - Nailer'

Gevey Turbo Sim

last christmas i gave to my wife an iphone 4 but unfortunately it was locked.

when i purchased the iphone i was hopping to unlock it with one of the available softwares that have been waisting our time on internet, so it didn't happened because its baseband 2.10.4.

Since then i've been waiting for the software to unlock it and nothing, thats when i decided to try one of this turbo sims hopping that it will work in Mozambique, where we live.

I recieved the turbo sim on 05/15/2011 and tryed...

And after a few trys the phone is realy working, i couldn't even believe it.

but i think there's a problem with the sound, it doesn't sound nice the quality is poor and i dont know if its because of the turbo sim or the iphone 4...

But.... i ordered another turbo sim for my iphone 4 which is baseband 03.10.01 with the same problem... i had 2 iphones one factory unlocked and another with turbo sim and none of them had this sound problem...

I would recomend gevey turbo sim to everibody who has been suffering with locked iphone... gevey iPhone 4 Gevey-3g Turbo Sim unlock kit iOS 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3 and 4.3.1 Baseband 1.59, 2.10, 3.10.1, 4.10, 4.10.1

Hi,

bought this Gevey Pro to unlock iPhone 4 Baseband 4.10.1. The Amazon description clearly says 4.10.1 and the picture clearly shows a Gevey Pro (the only one that unlocks 4.10.1). Being tech savy I double checked all specs and ordered. Surprise surprise: bag does not say "Pro" on it and when I placed my "other carrier" sim card into the provided tray with the unlock chip the phone did not recognized the SIM at all.

I'd consider this a bait and switch.

Being the eternal optimist I have contacted the seller to see if they may have made a mistake. We'll see ... until then:

BEWARE - DO NOT BUY this product if you want to unlock a 4.10.1 baseband!

Updates to follow

The card does what it's supposed to do and does it well. However it is a significant drain on battery power. While I understand sometimes you have to sacrifice one thing for another, it's rather annoying that even with less than average use, the iPhone will barely last a day. If you absolutely MUST have your iPhone 4 unlocked, be prepared to deal with the headache of having to constantly keep an eye on battery power. Otherwise, don't bother with this product or the iPhone.

It's a nice idea. Unfortunately, it's illegal in the U.S. and many other countries. Not because it unlocks the phone (which it does), but because it makes a call to the emergency # (equivalent of 911 in the U.S.) every time the phone is re-booted.

Call 911 a dozen times or so and hang up on them and see what happens... That's exactly what this does to 'unlock' your phone. You'll be able to use your phone on any carrier you like. So long as the county jail lets you keep your cell phone in your cell...'

Portable Digital Tv

My old little portable TV used for emergencies "expired" in February 2009 - so I ordered one of these because they are set up for the new digital broadcasts. The first one I received didn't pick up any channels and had no sound. I figured it had to be a damaged unit, so returned it to Amazon for a replacement and the second one is working fine. Picks up most of my local channels -Some with amazing clarity and others fuzzy, but I live out in the country, so I'm okay with that since it's really just for emergencies. I'm amazed at the technology, seeing such a sharp, full color picture on that little screen. I've read from other reviews that the battery lasts about 2 hours, but hopefully that'll get us thru a storm. Comes with AC cord, detachable antenna, triple video input cable, car plug-in, remote control (including batteries) and rechargable internal battery. Note, internal battery MUST be installed before it will come on. It's got one of those tiny plug-ins like cordless phones, so make sure it's connected. Overall, I would recommend it. Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV

I am really thrilled with my purchase of this Haier HLT71 7-inch, ATSC 2009-ready portable LCD TV! I have never heard of this name brand Haier, and I had heard many nightmare stories about some of the other name brands having poor pictures on these little screens, so I thought I'd give this Haier a try.

I ordered this tv directly from Amazon and it came to me from a seller on Amazon who goes by the name ANTOnline. The seller sent this perfect and fast to start with, which is always a big plus with me. When I opened the box, the set looked very sleek and light weight, just perfect! The tv I received is exactly like the picture shows in this description, black (it is the picture that has the remote control next to the tv), with really simple control buttons on the front. I then looked at the directions, but realized, I didn't need to read them at all! Everything is really obvious! The set has a little slide switch on the side to turn on the power. The antenna screws in really easy. It comes with a plug for the inside electrical outlet, and a plug for the car lighter, and a lightweight rechargeable battery! It has a little remote control which they made very easy to read! After screwing on the antenna (or you can attach your cable cord if you are using it in the house), I basically plugged it in, slid the power switch on, pressed the button to scan for setting the channels, and it does it quickly! In about 1 minute, it was set! I then tried the small battery, and it played perfectly without the electric power!

The picture is absolutely gorgeous, as it has the new atsc digital signal receiver built in! To see the local programs in digital on this little screen was fantastic! Colors are crisp, sharp and vivid, just like a big hdtv!

I have noticed that some reviews are giving this tv a low rating because it did not pick up any channels with the single rabbit ear that comes with the set. This tv picks up EVERY signal that is being broadcast in your area. Before you buy this tv, you should first go to a website called Antenna Web. On this site, you type in your address and it will show you exactly how many channels you can receive in your area and what type of antenna you will need to pick up the signals. Antenna Web said that in my area I could receive 8 signals, and the single rabbit ear that comes with this tv picked up all 8 channels. When I used a stronger antenna, I picked up 3 more channels. When I used my cable cord, I received over 60 channels, and when I used my cable cord with my box, I picked up 250 channels.

Whatever I hooked up to the coaxial input on this tv, this tv picked up! If you live in an area that receives no broadcast signals or you need a high powered antenna to pick up anything, it is not the tv's fault, but your broadcasters. So, if you want to be certain your tv is picking up the signals correctly, go to Antenna Web and check to see what channels you can get in your area and what type of antenna you need to pick up the signals. My single rabbit ear, picked up everything including the hi-def channels, and the reception was crystal clear. (Also, don't forget to go to the tv's menu, and hit the little satellite dish picture, then hit the appropriate air or cable before you scan for your channels. This way you'll be certain your tv will receive the correct signals.)

The real plus for me on this tv, is the battery, because of so many electrical outages and bad storms, this is a must have item! The battery has a life of about 2-2 1/2 hours, perfect for a few shows while waiting out bad weather, or even for entertainment when traveling. The fantastic picture really blew me away. I just love the light weight of the tv, even with the battery, it's like a feather! There is even a built in stand to put it on a table! The sound is incredible as well- two speakers and really loud! This is unheard of on these small sets! They even thought of including a plug in for headphones, if you have them (headphones are not included), for quiet listening or for travel! Whoever designed this perfect set, knew what they were doing!

I am giving this perfect little tv 5 stars for being able to see a sharp, vivid, gorgeously colored hi-def picture, and set up without reading a direction, but especially because I can play it in my house, in my car, or carry it anywhere with the rechargeable battery, all at a great price too!

UPDATE: Haier vs. Axion 7 inch portable tv's

I am posting an update for anyone who is wondering what the differences are between these two portable tv's. A friend of mine purchased the Axion, and she immediately brought it over to compare it to my Haier. Here is what I found:

RECEPTION: Antenna Web said I could receive 8 channels in my area. With the single rabbit ear antenna, Haier picked up all 8 channels. Axion picked up 7 channels, but one channel was very fuzzy. When attaching a cable cord, both sets picked up everything.

SOUND: For these small sets, the sounds were very similar, but when turning the volume louder, the Haier was louder and not as tinny sounding as the Axion.

PICTURE: Both have very nice pictures, with great color, but the Haier definitely has a more hi-def, sharper looking picture.

REMOTE CONTROL: Haier's is easier to read, larger and has volume control, where Axion's is smaller and has no volume control.

BATTERY: Haier's battery is a plug in and lasts about 2 hours before needing charging. Axion's battery is built in, cannot be removed and lasted a little less than 1 hour before needing to be charged.

Overall, the sets are very similar, my personal choice being the Haier, as I think the picture is sharper, the price is better and the battery lasts longer for my needs in bad weather. Haier also has way more picture settings and adjustments in the tv's menu, but the pictures on both these sets are so great, I've never found a need to use them. The bottom line for me is the better picture and price give the edge to Haier, since the reception on these two sets is almost identical.

UPDATE: MISSING OR NO CHANNELS AFTER DIGITAL CHANGE

This is an update for anyone who has lost channels or who has no channels after the digital change took place June 12, 2009, whether you re-scanned or not. I received this information to share with all of you from contacting the FCC, CBS, Antenna Web and Elgato Systems Technical Support.

They were all very helpful in explaining to me what exactly is going on right now, which is this: Half of the nations tv stations (which at half is 1,760 stations) are running at full power, the other half of 1,760 stations are not. Some stations are completely off the air temporarily, and are available only through cable and satellite. In most major markets some channels are still in lower frequencies which many smaller antennas will NEVER pick up except MAYBE with the highest powered amplified antenna. Digital tv was originally planned to be broadcast in UHF (digital loop antenna needed), which are the higher channels. VHF (rabbit ears), which are the lower analog channels (2-13) was supposed to be gone, but it is not. The new digital tv is being broadcast in 2 different ranges both UHF and VHF.

In other words, channels are missing, many channels are in frequencies we cannot pick up and only half of our stations are running at full power! What a mess! Antenna Web is now showing the new RF (Radio Frequency) channels in your area. Each station has 1 RF channel. If you see in your area, any low RF channels from 1-13 range, you will need a really high powered antenna to MAYBE receive your channels.

First, go to your tv to re-scan. Remove any batteries. Plug it in to the wall outlet. Find the satellite dish in your menu and set it to air (if using antenna) or cable (if cable is hooked up)and scan. You may have to do this several times and even more re-scans are needed over the next year or two!

The FCC recommends, if you are getting nothing, or very few channels, to do the following, before re-scanning:

1.) Re-orient the antenna

2.) Amplify the antenna (Not recommended by me, as these antenna's need electricity, which means it will be useless when used with the battery)

3.) Purchase a new HD antenna that will receive both VHF and UHF

When you buy an hd antenna for your set, try re-scanning it when you get home a few times to see what you get, if nothing works, return it and try another. (After re-scanning, make sure you try the tv with your battery to see what you can pick up for power outages.) Eventually one will work for your area and you'll be set for the next power outage.

With only 1/2 the stations at full power, many channels temporarily missing that went to cable and dish tv, and many running on low analog frequencies, it's amazing our antenna sets are picking up anything right now! Shop till you get a good antenna for your area, and be patient as it will be years before everything is being broadcast in higher frequency digital tv! I hope this helps everyone, as the right antenna is everything right now!

UPDATE: MORE HAIER BATTERIES ARE FINALLY HERE! (September 26, 2009)

I am so happy that Haier has finally made more batteries available to purchase here on Amazon! Just type in Haier Battery and you'll see many sellers have them advertised and the prices are very competitive, starting at $24.00 plus shipping. I received mine quickly, tested it and we got a little over 4 hours of television with 2 batteries, which will be wonderful when we need a portable for the next power outage!(Without power, I recharged them in my car.)I've had my tv for 2 years now, and it's still like new, so paying for an extra battery is definitely worth it!'

Vibrating Alarm Clock - vibrating alarm clock, atomic clock

The flashlight and the ability to change time zones easily were the big draw. However, the usability of this thing is awful. Worst aspect is you can't turn off the alarm, so it goes off every day. Also, the backlight is mediocre (at best) and the clock face was too small for me.

The alarm tones were cheap and there was no way of locking out the buttons so they don't get pressed in your bag.

Lastly, it was bigger than I expected, and ultimately not worth the space in my luggage. Pocket Size World Time Travel Alarm Clock with calendar, Timer, Temperature display and 3 LED flashlight - White

I took this to Europe and was dismayed that it kept automatically changing time zones. Different types of batteries are required for LED light and for clock which makes it a pain when you need to put new ones in. Would not recommend. The only good thing is the bright flashlight. - Alarm Clock - Large Numbers - Atomic Clock - Vibrating Alarm Clock'

Battery Chargers - sony, sony camcorder

I buy this thing because it was with special discount, practically the same price with SONY ACVQ50 that haves SQ technology but only one slot for one battery. The other unique difference is that the ACSQ950D have the plug and cord to connect to the cigarette lighter for your car. I was surprised when i read in the manual "This unit cannot charge two battery packs simultaneously", so compare price between the two chargers before buying. That's my advice. Sony ACSQ950D AC/DC AC Adapter/Quick Charger for MiniDV Camcorders

Awesome Product! I can't find anything wrong with this product or company. The charger works great and Supermicro was great! I paid $85.48 shipped when the list price was around $170. If I was to nitpick, the only shortcoming of the product is it will only charge one battery at a time. But like I said, that is nitpicking.

This may be a good charger, I have no way to know but it was of no use to me, I bought it with a camera and tripod; it was listed as a recommended accessory. PROBLEM: this charger works only wth "M" series batteries. The camera I was sold works only with "L" series. This accessory is not compatible with the item it was recommended with. BEWARE the recommendations! - Sony - Sony Camcorder'

Motorola - motorola, battery

I purchased two of these BH5X batteries from seller ACC Stop at Amazon.com. Both batteries seemed to be a genuine Motorola battery with an authentic holographic label and are rated for a 1500/1540 (min/typ) mAh capacity. However, I'm not sure that they were really "new" as claimed by the seller because: (1) the contacts seemed to indicate that the batteries had been used, and (2) one battery arrived with a 60% charge while the other arrived fully drained (0% charge).

Is this important? Some sellers would like you to believe that it is not but this is patently false. Lithium Ion batteries have a limited life. Three things cause them to deteriorate: (1) recharge cycles, (2) age, and (3) heat.

Li-ion batteries can be recharged from 400 to 1200 times as long as they are not subjected to too much heat. Some manufacturers claim their Li-ion batteries can be cycled more than 1200 times but this is usually wishfull thinking under "optimum" conditions---500 cycles is probably more typical. If you buy used batteries, they may still perform "like new" but they may have lost half of their life or more, depending on how many times they've been charged. This means that there is definitely value in getting a new battery instead of a used one.

Even if they are not cycled often, Li-ion batteries will naturally deteriorate with age---this is true even if they are left on the shelf and never used. One of the batteries I received was dated 03-Nov-2010. The other was dated 04-Nov-2010. So they were about 5 months old when I received them. This should be fine. By the way, I purchased my Droid X in early March 2011 and the battery that came with it is dated 27-Dec-2010.

The greatest "enemy" of Li-ion batteries is heat. It will reduce their life faster than anything else. This is yet another reason why a new battery is better because you never know how much heat a used battery has been exposed to.

Both of the batteries I received tested well. I tested their recharge rate from 0% to 100% and both batteries charged at a normal rate (approximately 10% per 13 minutes). One battery reached a full (100%) charge in 2 hours 9 minutes and the other reached full charge in 2 hours 17 minutes. This test was done in my Droid X using the stock Motorola AC charging adapter with the phone turned off. I plotted their rate of charge during the test and they matched a known good battery. I also monitored their temperature and they remained cool during charging.

Here's the charging rate of one of the batteries:

0% - start charging

5% - 2 min

10% - 7 min

15% - 6 min

20% - 6 min

30% - 11 min

40% - 12 min

50% - 13 min

60% - 13 min

70% - 12 min

80% - 12 min

90% - 14 min

100% - 21 min

-----------------------------

Total Time: 2 hours 9 minutes

My test of their discharge rate was a bit more subjective: I turned off the display "screen timeout" and played a video until the phone died. Both batteries seemed to last about the same time as my original battery.

Overall, I'm happy with the batteries I received from seller ACC Stop---even if they are used, their price was less than 1/4 the price of new batteries from Verizon or Motorola. However, I wish there was a way to confirm whether the seller's claim of "new" is true. There are many sellers who are selling rejects and heavily used batteries while claiming they are "like new" which makes it difficult on us buyers.

The only negative I can cite was the shipping package. ACC Stop shipped both batteries in a single cardboard envelope with no padding of any kind. I would have preferred them to have been padded---fortunately, they arrived okay.

I have no experience with other sellers of these batteries but I've read of many problems. So if you are not buying your batteries from a reputable source, then you are taking a chance.

I hope my comments are helpful. This Battery is 1500 mAh.

Mr. Brady couldn't have said it any better, caveat emptor buyer beware. It is obvious that something is up with these batteries, but i ordered it anyway because it couldn't hurt for that price. Any reputable dealer will charge anywhere from $45 to $50 for this battery. Even off-name batteries for the droid x are priced similarly. These are not even half the price, the seller varies the price regularly as these batteries have been priced from as little as $2.51 to $24.14. They are definitely not new and the seller has gotten complacent enough on amazon that they don't bother to remove the inspector sticker that says "New Breed Corp. PASS". This is the company that purchases the batteries from the cell phone carriers. They are probably returns. The battery i received works and appears to be fine but was obviously not new. The seller ships first class mail but clearly doesn't drop it in the mail fast enough took a very long time before i received my battery.

Ordered 2 of these I was not sure what I would get. I know that counterfits don't charge in a droid X and also don't show remaining capacity but the 2 batteries I got were the real deal and not only work perfect but their labeling shows they are genuine motorola batteries. The capacity of each battery is also fine. I keep one fully charged in my wallet and another in my backpack. At this price everybody should have a few backups to ensure their X never leaves them stranded with a drained battery. I'm buying 2 more.

My DroidX apparently requires an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) battery. (Unfortunately, this is not the forum to debate the merits or legality of not being able to use after-market or third-party replacements parts in items I have purchased). The battery I received was not accepted by my DroidX. After installing it, I got an error message that indicated that it was not an OEM Motorola battery. This battery looked authentic, complete with holographic sticker and all, but still would not work. I did notice that it came in a plain shipper, wrapped only in plastic, with no "official" looking packaging or clamshell. And perhaps the $6.70 price tag should have caused me to raise an eyebrow, considering replacement BH5X batteries through Verizon are $39.00 (another rip-off). I have also learned to be very careful when shopping on Amazon and to watch for "OEM Equivalent" vs. "OEM", but this item clearly says "New Motorola OEM...". This item was shipped by Amazon, and I returned this directly to Amazon with a note that perhaps they should check to see if it is counterfeit and/or check their supplier. - Droid - Motorola - Battery - Android'

Home Theater Speaker Systems - polk, home theater

I've had the Polk IHT 6000 Soundbar for a week now and it has been an interesting experience.

I got a new 60 inch Sony LED-LCD TV and was looking to have sound to match. My old sound system was really great with a Yamaha AV Receiver, 3 Infinity speakers in front, 2 JBL surround speakers, and a 10 inch Polk Subwoofer. The sound from that system was awesome, but the wires and speakers everywhere was too much for me anymore, and with the new big TV I no longer had room for the receiver.

I went looking for a soundbar and tried several. Sony, Vizio, and Polk. I tried the Vizio since it was the only soundbar out there with separate rear channels and a wireless sub. It was great looking and great in terms of functionality, but the sound was awful. Muddy, nondistinct, just all around bad. The Sony was OK, but a little tinny and I didn't like that you had to wire everything to the sub first and then to the soundbar... I was trying to get rid of wires. Then I got the Polk.

The Polk's sound is full and rich. The setup is easy, one audio wire, one power cable. I was very happy, but not thrilled and still felt a longing for my old system which went bye by on ebay. After doing a good amount of research, I found that I may have had the soundbar placed wrong. It was above my TV angled down, kind of close to the ceiling (this is in my basement so the ceiling is low). I decided to move the soundbar to just under the TV (They are both wall mounted). It is much closer to ear level now

All I can say is WOW. The difference in sound between the locations is astounding. I am now TOTALLY happy with the Polk Soundbar. The sound is full and rich and really great. It is NOT however as good as a true 5.1 or 7.1 system, but it is pretty darn close and considering how nice it looks and how easy it is, I have no regrets. The surround effects are good but not like a true surround system. If you need to have true surround, this is not the system for you. I am very happy with it, and with a blu-ray in the player, that sound really does fill the room. You do get the feeling that there is surround sound, but it is just a feeling, not the reality you get with a true 5.1 system. Don't get me wrong though the sound is VERY good.

With that said, there are some negatives. First off, there are no audio settings like bass or treble, there is however a sub level adjustment (more on that later). Polk feels that you get what you get. I wish I could boost the treble a little, or that they would put a quality tweeter in the center of the soundbar. The sub level adjustment is OK, but it is basically a volume control for the sub, and there is no level indicator, so I have no idea if it is set at 1 or 10. It is just a guess.

I have also listened to the B&W Panorama soundbar and the Yamaha sound projector. Those 2 units do a better job than the Polk, the Yamaha is slightly better, and the B&W is a lot better, but the Yamaha is a thousand dollars more expensive and not nearly worth the extra expense for such a slight improvement over the Polk. The B&W is truly amazing and a true audiophile solution, but at well over 2 grand, it was way out of my price range.

In conclusion, the Polk soundbar IHT 6000 is in my opinion the best soundbar out there under $1500. Polk Audio Surroundbar IHT 6000 Instant Home Theater (Black)

First I'll start off by making a statement I'm sure has been beaten into the ground in reference to soundbars. This is not a replacement for a true surround system. That being said, the 6000 is pretty darn close. My setup is a Bluray player connected optically, and my HTPC, 360 and Wii running analog out through the TV....I'll explain why.

The one issue I have is with the optical input. The 6000 has a built in Dolby Digital decoder BUT, and this is a big but...it does not have the ability to decode Dolby True HD or any DTS soundtrack. So assuming you have your Bluray player connected to the 6000 via optical, pop in The Walking Dead or the Back To The Future trilogy. You will be greeted to...silence. To fix this you will either have to pick an appropriate sound format using he disc menu (usually a 2ch DD signal is an option), or do what I did....set up any DTS soundtrack to default to 2ch PCM using the BR players setup menu. Its an easy fix but really defeats the purpose of using the optical connection. And considering the fact that most Blurays either use DD True HD or DTS Master Audio, it makes me wonder if the Dolby Digital decoder is necessary at all. If your playing a standard DVD pretty much all of them use 5.1 Dolby Digital, at least that's something. Polk seems a year or two behind the curve when it comes to audio formats. At best it's a novelty and a bullet point to put on the box.

*Also, for all you guys running the optical out from the back of your TV to the 6000, this is a rather pointless endeavor. A vast majority of TVs WILL NOT pass through multi-channel digital audio. What the TV does is downmix the signal to a 2ch PCM signal. So while the signal is still getting pumped out as "digital", its all basically a stereo mixdown signal, no matter what the source. So...if you see a blue solid light on the front panel, its either PCM or analog. If its steady green the decoder is on. Most likely if your running it rough the optical out on the TV, you will see a blue light.

Here's the kicker though: Nothing in the last two paragraphs matter. No matter if you're connected through 2ch analog, optical multi channel or optical PCM, the sound is vastly superior to your TV's speakers. I watch most of my movies and shows through my HTPC, connected to the TV via HDMI, then using the downmixed 2ch analog to the 6000. Its really like night and day. Even though im using the 2ch analog connection which some may view as the "worst" connection, the 6000 still amazes. I'd say the 6000 does about 75% job of recreating multichannel audio. But this will depend on the size of your room and how close the walls are. And when you get lucky and find a Bluray that actually is compatible with the 6000 (in my case T2: Skynet Edition), the sound is even more brilliant. In my opinion though, the 2ch analog sounds better than the 2ch PCM optical...has more of a "spacious" feel. So unless I'm watching a Blruray that I know has DD 5.1, I keep it analog for all sources.

And unlike those chepos Sony and Samsung, Polk actually includes everything you need....optical cable, analog cable and adapters. Whens the last time Sony packaged anything but composite cables (thanks for nothing).

The set up was DEAD SIMPLE. Literally had it set up and running within 5 minutes of removing it from the box. What will take a little while is getting the sound just right...as I stated above. There is also some trial and error when it comes to the subwoofer placement. Don't get me wrong, that lil' devil sounds great. I found it fills the room better when placed in a corner. The same general rules apply to this sub as to any other...just be cognizant of the 50ft wireless range.

*Also very important. I've read reviews on soundbars that use wireless subs where some people have had problems with wireless network interference. Im using an older generation Linksys G router that sits about a foot under the soundbar. I have had no dropouts or any type of interference. Im sure this will vary, just sayin.

Please Google the 6000, its has overwhelmingly positive reviews from actual professionals. I hope my review has been helpful, and at the very least had shed some light in reference to the built in decoder.

Nursing Cover Up - maternity, nursing

My only complaint is that these tanks are little long. Otherwise the clips are easy to snap/unsnap one-handed. I wear these tanks under my shirt and am able to nurse in public with very little skin showing. I'm a 36D and find these to be pretty supportive and very comfortable. I don't really like to wear them alone without a shirt over them because you can see the layer underneath the top layer where your cleavage is. It just looks weird. I think a smaller chested woman could get a way with it though. I have 8 of these tanks and love them! Electronic Instrumentation - real time adjusment, gps

This book has the potential of being extremely useful; certainly it is an ambitions book. In the discussions of the mechanical gyros the disertation flows fairly well. However, once into the optical gyros, the result is just about worthless. The Sagnac Effect is the basis for all optical gyros such as the ring laser and the fibre optic gyro. The discussion of this effect is just about useless. It is virtually impossible to see how one equation follows from the preceding equation. The fringe shift from two interfering beams which rotate in opposite direction is the basis of all optical gyros, but the discussion in Lawrence's book is little more than hand waving. In other words, if the reader has a background in optical physics, then the discussion makes some sense. However, the book must be judged upon its own merits and here I think it fails miserably. So I would recommend the book for the discussion of mechanical gyros but as an introduction to optical gyros I would recommend that the reader look elsewhere. Modern Inertial Technology: Navigation, Guidance, and Control (Mechanical Engineering Series)

This is a good overview to hand a beginning avionics or flight controls engineer who needs to get familiar with the very basic principles of inertial nav. Good coverage of various types of instruments, but many of the designs covered are outdated and of little use in modern design work. Given the paucity of works in this field, I welcomed it as an introductory text, but you could not perform any serious trade studies for a real design with only the knowledge in this book. It doesn't cover GPS in any depth, or the important topic of GPS/INS blending. Other topics missing are a good intro to optical gyros (Sagnac effect) and the overall integration of nav systems (steering modes, landing systems, cooperative nav, effects on weapons delivery, and so on). Still, for the money, I would recommend it to a neophyte who has some extra cash...you have to start somewhere!

The technology in the field is quite advanced, and the research is particulary active and in costant evolution. Producing a comprehensive reference is quite difficult but the author delivers clearly the advantages and disadvantages of each system analyzed in the book. As a guide, the work has neatly reached its goal, since it delivers a clear picture of the current state of art and the trend of each system development. In fact the author is covering every subject quite extensively without the dispersion of innumerable specific technical papers, which are, of course, much more detailed but far from comprehending the scope of the whole field. The only point is the mathematical level, that is maybe too simple for engineers and scientists, and a little bit complicated for the average pilot, one of the most interested user in the field. - Kalman Filter - Real Time Adjusment - Inertial Navigation - Gps'

Mobil 1 - full synthetic, lubricants

I was one click away from buying this on Amazon and thought I'd shop around. You can buy a 5Qt jug of it at Walmart for $22 or about $25 at your local auto store and pick up another single Qt for another $6 or so. Saves a lot of money. Mobil 1 44975 Synthetic 5W-20 Motor Oil - 1 Quart, Pack of 6

This is the first generally avaliable 5w20 synthetic oil that meets Honda's spec. (The bottle says it meets Chrysler and Ford's as well) A couple of years ago Honda switched to 5w20 in an effort to improve fuel economy. For those of us who prefer synthetic oils, that made for a frustrating wait :)

I've used synthetics for years now, and been happy with the results. This one has gone into a couple of Hondas in our family with typically good results. I prefer thae regular old Mobil 1 over the many variations on the market. Following your manufacturer's recommended change interval, and using Mobil 1, you just can't go wrong.

This is the best oil you can purchase.

It is not regular oil, and not a synthetic blend, but it is FULL synthetic, and the best type of Full synthetic at that.

I cannot believe what they are charging however.

I bought a case of 6 of these for $32 bucks without coupon at Costco. With a coupon, (which Costco sends out very frequently), the cost is around $26 per case of 6. Basically, you can buy 2 cases from Costco, for the price of 1 case here on Amazon.

I do not think Amazon is ripping off people. I think that Amazon cannot get a good deal when they purchase from Mobil, like Costco can get. Costco is still making a profit at $26 per case, so why is Amazon's double the price? Most likely, the underlying cost to the Amazon corporation must be significantly higher.

I use this oil, and I would continue to purchase this oil, just not here... Go to Costco, and get 2 cases of full synthetic for the same price of 1 case here.

I've been using Mobil One off and on since 2007 when a co-worker first told me about it. I have a 2002 Accord V6 sedan that is now pushing 156,000 miles in just 8 years! Using this oil, in conjunction with Fram's high mileage oil filter (for cars with over 75k in miles) helps to ensure it keeps running smoothely.

I typically go to one of those Chevron run Oil Changers here in the SF Bay Area (if you're not here, I'm sure you have an equivalent chain where they change the oil for you and you have the option of bringing in your own card products).

Mobil One is simply the best and I've yet to experience any problems related to the type of oil I put in my Honda.

PS: If you're an Amazon Prime member like me, it really makes shopping for oil online easy (or from Amazon in general)!

Online is NOT the way to order motor oil, either synthetic like this product or regular old rotten dinosaur juice. I was laid up following back surgery and it did come with a healthy rebate so I wasnt boned too badly. I have found that if you buy your own quality oil and filter and then take your vehicle to one of those oil change joints, you can get the work done for between $6 and $9. You have to let the "mechanic" see you watching him a couple of times so he doesnt end up with your primo synthetic oil while you get "Old Brown" re-refined. Hell Im so tight I ask for the old oil to be returned to me in the old containers. I then drop this off at the community recycling center or at Walmart or if Al Gore has me really cranky, I will use it as a week killer around my mailbox. THAT is recycling!!

I USED TO USE HONDA GENUINE MOTOR OIL FOR MY 04 ACURA MDX,BUT AFTER READING SO MANY GOOD THINGS ABOUT MOBIL 1, I DECIDED TO SWITCH. WOOW... THE CAR DOES NOT DRIVE, THERE IS NO OTHER PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, AS SOON AS I DROVE OUT OF THE SHOP,CAR JUST LOST THE HORSEPOWER FOR THAT PARTICULAR REASON. I ASKED THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT CAN'T BE THE PROBLEM.. GUESS WHAT, I SWITCHED BACK TO GENUINE HONDA OIL AND IT'S FINE NOW...

IT'S EITHER MY CAR OR MOBIL 1 JUST DOES NOT WORK FOR MDX.

I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS KEEPS HAPENING.

Cartridge Filter Cleaner - pool filter assembly, attachments

As another reviewer indicated, I was also hesitant to buy a filter sight unseen over the internet. However, I could not ignore the $30 plus price savings over Pinch-a-Penny. I like supporting my local Pinch-a-Penny store because they test my water regularly which helps me keep my pool chemically balanced, but there comes a point where I can no longer pay 40% more for an item. And I usually buy two filters at a time so I can alternate their use so I don't need to be in a hurry to clean and reuse one filter. So, I bought one filter and when it arrived it appeared to be constructed well and I could not tell any physical difference between others that I've purchased at my local pool stores. It fit normally in my Hayward C-1200 filter housing. So far, I've only used it during the cooler months with shorter pump run times, but it is filtering well and the filter pressure is maintaining steady and I have not had to clean it yet. The real test will be if it can handle a Florida summer of filtering 8 hours a day for 6 consecutive months with the warmer water temperatures and alot of use of the pool. But I feel confident thus far and I am going to purchase another filter soon. Pool Filter Replaces Unicel # C-8412 (Pleatco # PA120, Filbur # FC-1293) for Swimming Pool and Spa

These cartridges outperform the original filter that came with my Hayward unit! The initial pressure is lower because the flow is better, and they last about two weeks longer between cleaning.

My pool gets a moderate amount of tree debris all year round, and these filters get me six weeks easy. Since they're reasonably affordable, I buy them in pairs, so I can take my time cleaning them.

A tip: to clean one, I briefly rinse off any loose debris, then soak it for a few days in a tall trashcan, in water with one cup of liquid Cascade dishwasher fuid. Then it's a matter of a thorough rinse, and it's as good as new! - Pool Filter Assembly - Pool Filters Hayward Replacement - Attachments - Recommend'
