Fur

I'm trying to provide a helpful opinion with this review.

My educated opinion is this is not raccoon fur at all, but tanuki fur.

(I understand that raccoon fur (grey) can be dyed to the same color as tanuki, but this does not appear to be the case.)

Often times tanuki is mis-interpreted and labeled as raccoon. The explanation for this is usually poor translation between Asian languages (point of origin for manufacturing) on the import papers to English-speaking countries.

The tanuki is not a raccoon, but looks like one. It's a fox-like canid, (dog family including foxes, wolves and dogs). It is a common wild animal with brown/golden fur and black markings. When first described by westerners centuries ago it was called "raccoon-dog" because it looked like an animal that was part fox (or dog) and part raccoon. (Dog is the old word for "male fox", and a catch-all term for a canid, kind of like how "big cat" can mean a lion or a tiger or leopard. So who knows what exactly was meant.)

Tanuki is the original, proper Japanese name for the creature. Raccoon-dog is still in use by some today the way "tidal wave" is still used to describe a tsunami, but it is considered incorrect and outdated.

This use, however, causes confusion in translation.

The good news is, anyone allergic to raccoon fur will likely not have the same allergy to tanuki fur. My allergy to raccoon is why I wanted to buy this jacket.

A conscientious buyer will note that tanukis are Asian animals, sometimes raised on ranches (although the animal has never been domesticated,) and the purchase of a tanuki product benefits Asian farmers (or Finnish ranchers, as the animal is sometimes called Finn-raccoon as many are raised there as well.)

Genuine raccoon fur purchases benefit North American fur trappers and the North American economy. Raccoons are not ranched. Fur harvesting licenses benefit the preservation of wild habitat and help fund national forests. It is the same consideration when choosing between ranched/wild mink, which mainly comes from North America, and ranched mink, which could be raised in Europe, Asia, North America or other places. On one hand wild fur supports habitat preservation, but on the other hand, ranched fur decreases pressure on wild animal populations. Something to think about. Sharpener - light, pencil

We've had this sharpener since April of last year, (purchased it off E-Bay.

It's a nice and handy little sharpener, and it does the job quite well.

It's a bit on the loud side, but then again, it's electric, so what do you expect.

it seems quite durable though.

It has fallen off my nightstand two or three times, and it still runs and sharpens perfectly.

One issue, though, that I'd like to adress, is that ever since shortly after Boston pencil sharpeners became X-ACTOs, many of the models which are powered by a transformer have been boxed with an incorrect or slightly incorrect voltage one.

While it's not an extremely major flaw of many of these types of sharpeners, it is something that I'd like to put out there.

If your sharpener seems to be running a bit slow and not sharpening as good, chances are, it came with a 6, instead of 12 volt transformer, and many of these sharpeners are 12 volt units.

And while it is a simple fix, just hunt up a 12 volt and correct miliapereage transformer, many owners of these sharpeners are not aware that this is perhaps why their machine isn't running as optimum as expected.

But all in all, if you can find this unit cheap enough, and can deal with the transformer issue, this is a nice little choice, if you don't need a heavy or continuous duty machine. X-ACTO Standup Mini Electric Sharpener, Mini Vertical - Silver (1724)

This baby REALLY puts a sharp point on your pencil. Perfect for drafting or home use, but I'm a little nervous about some of my more problematic students having a pencil this sharp... ;)

It's held up well in my classroom for months now, so should be quite the performer in home or office.

Hey, this is a good sharpener! With one little push of the pencil it puts a fine point on the pencil and the taper is very even. What more can you ask for?

Well, some dummie will probably complain that it is no good for colored pencils or crayons (or eyebrow pencils) because it chews them all up. DAH.

As of the first day of owning this, I've sharpened a lot of pencils and am very happy with this sharpener. I am perturbed, though, that Amazon sent me a USED one. It looks all banged up on the outside and has someone else's pencil shavings inside it. What were they thinking? :(

I had doubts (as always) but decided to try it anyway.. and I'm glad I did. The sharpener is relatively quiet (not library-quiet though), rather compact, does the job well, takes 3-4 seconds per pencil to sharpen from new condition. I'm very careful with what my kids touch as far as equipment, but I let me 6 y.o. try sharpener and she was very excited to go through the entire box of pencils for school in a matter of minutes. I definitelly recommend it for home use.

This is a nice little sharpener. Doesn't take up a lot of space. "Top loading" is nice, because you don't have to clear off what's in front of it to sharpen your pencil.

The shaving well is pretty big, and it is very easy to take off the cover and empty it out. In the product photo, the removable well cover is the whole dark plastic (approximate) square on the front. The cover to the well is see-through, so you can also tell when the well is getting full.

This sharpener is not as noisy as our other electric sharpener. But it is also not as strong. You cannot jam your pencil into the X-ACTO Standup Mine Electric Sharpener, you need to be a little gentler than with a full-sized sharpener. For this reason, this sharpener may not be the best choice if you've got young children using it.

It is very nice, however, for my daughter in her dorm room. Compact, easy to use, easy to clean.

This is my first electric sharpener. But I think it is very powerful, easy, very quick and convenient to use. We prepared 24 pencils in several minutes without a problem.

Do not forget to close tank tightly to make it work. - Personal - Light - Electric - Pencil'

Sweat Pants - athletic pants, sweat pants

I like the style and cut of these pants, but the material is so SHEER. The pants aren't even tight, but when I bend over I can see my underwear. I still like them, but I definitely have to think about what I wear under them. Soffe Juniors' Yoga Roll-Top Pant, Black, Medium

These are my favorite work out pants. I have an xs in black and it is a little tight so I ordered a small in grey. Im 5'3" and 115 and the length is also perfect for me; my legs are long for a short person. These pants are form tight through the hips and thighs and flare out just below the knee. I wear them to do cardio, yoga, or run errands.

These pants are extremely comfortable.. but I can't wear them outside of the house. I got the grey ones and like another reviewer said they are just too shear. Great for indoor wear even though I can't bring myself to wear them to yoga class, they are just too revealing.

I ordered these pants in black and heather grey.. and they are alright. They are comfortable but they do run a little small. I wear a size small and I ordered these in a small and I should have gotten a medium because they are a little tighter in the waist and a little short.. but other then that the pants are good. And shipping was fast.

I got the white for a photo shoot. It was fine for the pictures, but you can completely see through the pants. If you want to be casual at home they are great, but other than that they are not usable. - Alkii - Sweat Pants - Active Pants - Athletic Pants'

Slingbox Pro - bridge, remote viewing

Firstoff, I would say this device does what it is supposed to. Having used several powerline products like this, I will say that this one performs about as well as competing units. That said, there are few caveats I would point out. First, you're only going to get acceptable throughput when both sides of the link are on the same household circuit. This is especially true with older homes who may have gone through electrical upgrades (like mine). Also, your throughput will suffer when you use other electrical devices on the circuit. For example, my video gets choppy whenever someone turns on/off the bathroom light which is adjacent to the bedroom where I have this unit located. For basic internet usage this is not a big deal, but if you're streaming video to a media center like I am, it is somewhat of an annoyance. Slinglink Turbo 1PORT Enet Connection Bridge (SL 150-100)

I bought this product to work with my Slingbox because my router is in a different room from my TV. It worked perfectly out of the box. I also use it to convert my wireless network to a wired network using the household current and my internet speed has doubled. Great product, great concept. May help change the way we use computers in the home.

This product not only proved itself, but it solved the problem of having to drill holes and run cables through the house, especially in a very difficult area. I am extremely pleased with this item, and would like to see the price drop a little more, but all in all it is definitely worth the price and time involved. It took about 3 minutes to have it all setup. There is no programming at all, it's all automatic.

I purchased this Slinglink Turbo 1PORT Enet Connection Bridge (SL 150-100) for use with my Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD SB300-100. You ONLY have to buy the Slinglink Turbo if your cable/satellite/whatever you use to get television signal from is not located next to your router. In my case, my router and modem are located in my office on the main floor of my house. We only have 3 tv's set up to our Comcast Digital Cable (Regular Package comes with a cable box) so I had to pick one of them. I decided to hook up the Slingbox PRO-HD in our basement because that tv gets the least amount of use (Setting that up is a whole different review).

Inside the Slinglink Turbo box, you get 2 Slinglinks. I connected one to the wireless-n Linksys router that we have in my office. All you do is plug one of the extra ethernet cables that comes in the box into an open slot on the routher. And you HAVE TO plug the power cord into an actual wall socket. YOU CANNOT PLUG IT INTO A POWER STRIP. Then, I set up the other Slinglink, in our basement where the SingBox PRO-HD is located. Once again, I plugged the ehternet cord from the Slinglink box into the back of the SlingBxo PRO-HD's ethernet port. I powered the Slinglink into an actual wall socket and kept the SlingBox PRO-HD plugged into a power strip.

When I ran the software that you download from slingmedia(dot)com, it recognized the SlingBox through my houses wiring via the Slinglinks. We have Comcast High Speed Cable Internet just incase you were wondering.

Product works great!

I bought the slingbox, forgetting that that my linksys was clear across the other side of the house. I bought this but really did not think it would work. I was very wrong. Set-up: about 5 minutes (that includes opening the box :)) I went to a friends house just to check the signal and the bridge and slingbox worked great!!! Well worth the money spent!!

This is one of those products that truly delivers. I instantly connected my son's XBOX 360 to our high speed cable internet with one of the sling media units (he had been complaining about lag time.) He is thrilled with the improved performance. My Dish Network 622 receiver was instantly connected. This was such a joy to work with! No software or set up with my computer -- never did anything more than connect a few cables and cords. Great job!

I have many Sling Media products and love them all. I am very pleased in general with Sling Media products. I just purchased a SlingCatcher to use in conjunction with my Slingbox because I have a TV in a room without a wired connection. The problem, is that my router is upstairs, while my SlingCatcher is downstairs. The solution should have been simple with the SlingLink...which is designed to turn your house's electrical wiring into an ethernet connection. The problem I found out was that the wiring upstairs differed from the wiring downstairs, so the SlingLink couldn't make a connection. After troubleshooting with the Sling Media people on the Sling Chat, it was determined that the SlingLink wouldn't work in my house. Instead, a wireless bridge was recommended. I then purchased the Linksys Wireless-N gaming adapter which has worked beautifully for my needs. All in all, the SlingLink may work for you in your house. However, beware that if your house is large (mine is 4000 square feet), then the SlingLink may not work due to the complexity of the electrical wiring. The wireless bridge will work much better. In a smaller house that is one level, I am sure the SlingLink would work fine. That is why I gave it only 3 stars. - Bridge - Remote Viewing - Slinglink - Xbox Live'

Morning Star Incense - morning star incense

There are several things I love about this incense. 1) The stickless style - no leftover stick after it's burned, just a small amount of ash. 2) This scent - Lavender - is not as heavy or intense as some other types (patchoulli, sandalwood), so it's great for everyday use. 3) It comes in a box of 200, which is really great.

All the incense I've tried from Morning Star has been great, but this one's my favorite. My mom even came over to my house one day and smelled the incense and said she liked it - and she's NOT an incense fan.

Great for meditation or as a pick-me-up. I burn it while doing housework and it seems to just add to my energy. Very nice. Nippon Kodo - Morning Star - Vanilla 200 Sticks and Holder

I find it very hard to find just the right incense; most smell strange to me. This has an excellent aroma, I love it. It's not overpowering, nor does it smell chemical or too perfume-ish. This box has a large number of sticks--200 lasts me more than a year. The sticks may seem small, but they don't come on a wire--just place it in the small stand provided (inside a dish you provide to catch the ash), and its lovely.

A good quality product, and nice packaged.

Do not expect 200 incense sticks of the usual size. These sticks are thin and only about 4 1/2 inches long.

I consider it a bit misleading not to mention the size - therefore only 4 stars - the product is not bad. Makes a nice gift too, because it is really nice packaged and looks like a quality product. Ten dollars is a bit expensive when you consider half the length of regular sticks...

This scent kinda sneaks up on you. When you first light it, you may not think it has an aroma at all unless you are right over it. However, within a few minutes it will dawn on you that the smell is there--it is just so light and relaxing that at first you may miss it. The sticks don't look like regular incense because while they are sticks the sticks are made of pure incense with no wood, but they burn about a half hour per stick and put out a nice scent. I feel that this will end up being my go-to incense, and highly recommend it for those who want a quality scent without an overpowering aroma.

I love lavender products, and I find this one relaxing and appealing. I use it for meditation periods, among other times. The scent is strong, but does not last overly long, so if someone in your home dislikes incense, it will dissipate in a reasonable length of time.

I dig the red Japanese box and the incense smells good, but the smell fades quicker than other incense I have used. Good quantity for the price. Decent quality. The "incense stand" is a 2cm by 2cm square tile with a hole in the middle, allowing the stick to stand up and drop ash everywhere. Good with a bowl underneath.

This is a very nice smelling incense, with a fragrance that sticks around.

Three things came as a surprise though...

1) The sticks are much smaller than a normal stick, about 60% their size. Not bad, just unexpected.

2) There is NO "bare handle" like normal sticks, the ENTIRE length is the incense.

3) It comes with a (very) small incense holder. It looks to be painted ceramic. This is a good thing if you have a wooden incense holder. Hot coal against wood. Hmmmm. ;)

I'm very happy with this purchase and will buy it again. :) - Morning Star Incense'

Mobile Office - mobile office, stapler

I love this all in one stapler & staple remover. I use it in my office. This way, it stands up by my computer monitor, so when I have to staple invoices or what not, it's right there. But often times I have to reassemble paperwork as it goes through stages & it's all there for me. No looking around for the staple remover. I just need the one, small compact unit. I have them in my book bag for school & in my office tote I take to clients offices. It doesn't hold a lot of staples, but I like the grip, the lightness of it & the ability to remove staples all in one. Swingline Tot Grip Miniature Stapler, 12 Sheet Capacity, Includes 1,000 Staples, Assorted Colors, Color May Vary (S7079168R)

I purchase this stapler because I wanted a stapler that was portable and can be carried around. This product does the trick. When I need to staple some documents I reach In my bag and I have a stapler at my fingertips. - Stapler - Office Supplies - Mobile Office'
