Edutainment - rhythm game, rb3

Pros:

Work seamlessly with the Roland TD9-SX. I was able to customize the Midi assignments (via the Roland) to use multiple cymbals. Much better trigger response that the ION drum rocker!

I Highly recommend it!

Cons (all minor):

No "chat" headset connection. no wireless connection, doesn't come with a Midi cable and the instruction were fairly vague. Xbox 360 Rock Band 3 Midi PRO-Adapter

As many have noted, it took forever for this to be released; but now it's here. Have used it with a Yamaha electric piano, and it just works. There are almost no instructions, but all you do is plug the USB cable into your XBox (or USB hub, of course), and plug a MIDI cable from your instrument to the adapter.

This has actually gotten me to start learning keyboards after many years of procrastination.

Note that the adapter does not include a MIDI cable -- so be sure you have one.

This works exactly like it's supposed to and is easy to connect. The bad news is that it is hard to find. If you have a midi compatible keyboard or guitar and really enjoy rockband then get it if you can find it.

After a long wait to recieve this I can honestly say it was worth it. I use it for Pro drums on a TD9 kit and it is just awesome. It definately works they way it should and corrects your playing to be a more accurate drummer. It has made the game much more fun and challenging. I highly recommend this to any one looking to improve their drumming skills. I have not used it in the other guitar or keyboard fashion but I would assume that it is just as good.

I'm responding to the reviewer(s) bemoaning not being able to find the product anywhere (really? come on), and also to anyone considering buying this off of Amazon (at $100 or more). Just go directly to the MadCatz website and order directly from them at the MSRP of $39.99. They are in stock. (Information as of 3/10/11).

This thing is AWESOME. I hooked it up to my Roland TD9 and it was literally plug and play...everything mapped correctly and I was jamming within seconds. The responsiveness of this unit is phenomenal...it never ever EVER dropped a note (unlike my previous ion drum rocker module) and make it so easy to swap from normal drums to rock band drums.

This is just an adapter, into which you can plug a real instrument (a midi guitar, keyboard, or drum kit.) It will then act as an XBox controller, allowing you to use that instrument when playing Rock Band 3. You can also buy them for other game systems.

It does exactly what it's meant to do, I've had no issues or problems.

It has the standard buttons and controls. It also has a "clip" that lets it sit on a belt, the edge of a music stand, etc. - that same clip can be removed and attached at a different angle to let it attach to the base of a guitar (which is how I have mine connected) - that way the adapter becomes "part of the guitar" and you don't need to worry about having an extra device to trip over.

(Speaking of tripping, it uses cables, not wireless. But it doesn't need its own batteries, although the instrument you're plugging in might.)

I was skeptical that the adapter would work with my not "officially" supported piano. However moments after I opened the adapter (plus the midi cord which is not included) we were rocking out with no issues.

I ordered the Midi PRO Adapter from MadCatz and a 5-foot MIDI cable from Hosa to finally be able to play "real" drums with Rock Band 1/2/3. What a pleasure it is!!

Within 5 minutes, everything was connected, drums were calibrated, I had dialed in the right level on the Midi-PRO adapter to avoid crosstalk, and I was rocking out. I had to swap the hi-hat and crash cymbal plugs at the DTXplorer brain side, since Rock Band wants them backwards from what most people play, but that's optional.

It just works, no special configuration required on the drum set side other than the cable swap mentioned above.

Wish this adapter had been available months and months earlier, but now that it's finally here - yippee!!!

Just purchased the Roland TD-4K2-S electronic drums and the PRO-Adapter for the Xbox 360 to go along with it. Works fine, right out of the box. No problems setting it up or anything. Very satisfied so far. - Keyboard - Rb3 - Rhythm Game - Edutainment'
