Around The Ear - earphones, klipsch

As an owner of all of Klipsch' IEM's, I was extremely pleased to hear Klipsch would soon be releasing an actual Headphone model, and couldn't wait to get my hands on a pair. Well the day finally came (A little over a month ago, but Amazon didn't yet have the product available for review) and I've put 'em through their paces.

FIRST IMPRESSION

The box is pretty unassuming and the Apple store even had it hanging from a peg, right next to the Dre Beats and Skullcandy's. Say wha??? But fret not. It's whats inside that counts, and these count in a big way. Accessories include a nice zippered pouch, the typical 1/8" to 1/4" headphone adapter, an airline adapter, the manual, the warranty card, etc. Pretty much what you'd expect to find when de-boxing headphones. But you're not reading this to hear about accessories, so let me get right to it.

BUILD QUALITY

The Image One's are quite nice looking and are seemingly well built. Although plastic is the primary material, it's quite sturdy and unlike the "creaky" Dre Beats. The leather patches on the outside of each 'phone are a nice touch and when mixed with the "chrome" accents, such as the Klipsch name, look really nice. The cable is actually thicker than most and seems to be quite sturdy. These aren't quite what I would call a work of art, but are still something you'll feel proud wearing and feel as if your money was well spent.

AUDIO QUALITY

Audio quality is very good. I've got probably 30 pairs of earphones/headphones floating around, and the only pair I like more than these, are the B&W P5s. But then again, those are in a completely different class.

BASS: If you're looking for a super-flat set of headphones, these aren't it. These have a VERY NICE bass response, but without sounding like a "fart cannon" and/or disturbing the rest of the spectrum. This is in contrast to a lot of other 'phones that can't seem to quite get it right. They're either all bass and trash the mids and highs (Dre Beats), or they are super clear from 800Khz on up, but have very little bass response(Etymotic HF3). It seems as if Klipsch finally got it right.

MIDS and HIGHS: The mids and highs are ultra smooth and there weren't any noticeable spikes, which could lead to audio fatigue. The bass seems to be the only aspect that is a bit "colored". I listened to several genre's of music from Dubstep to Classical and was equally impressed with the performance on them all. I could literally pick out the instruments being played and I felt as if I was right there in the studio.

COMFORT AND OPERATION

COMFORT: These are closed-back, supra-aural headphones. Meaning they sit on the ear, instead of over it. That being said, the soft leather pads and the design make them quite comfortable. I was able to listen for extended periods of time (2hrs+) without any major discomfort. My ears were, not surprisingly, a bit warm after use, but that's about it. Very nice.

MIC/IPOD CONTROLS: The control "stick" is located down on your chest, right where the "Y" splits off (I have uploaded a close up and added it to the image gallery). Some may not like this as much as having it up by your ears, but I actually prefer this design. To me, it's just easier to reach and control. The downside to having the stick lower is the mic is now further away from your mouth. That being said, I found mic clarity to be a bit muffled, and a heavy wind would cause the typical "audio-blowout", but neither were bad enough for me to consider a major negative. I don't use these on my iDevices much anyway.

SOUND LEAKAGE: The leather and foam pads do a nice job of keeping the sound in your ears, where it belongs. In fact, with a perfect "seal", I heard no leakage at all with my Fuze full-throttle. However, once the seal is lost, you do get some leakage (to be expected), but it's still nothing to be overly concerned about. I would feel comfortable using these in a library, as long as I didn't have the volume full-blast.

CONCLUSION

I simply cannot recommend these enough. I read somewhere that these were designed to be the Image S4's in a full size form factor. This is not the case. These sound very different from the S4's, and in a good way. The clarity, bass response and soundstage is pretty amazing. If you've been primarily an IEM user, and aren't going to the gym everyday, you owe it to yourself to try a pair. You'll be pleasantly surprised. They're priced right, look right and most importantly, sound right. A winner in my book.

Recommended. Klipsch Image ONE Premium On-Ear Earphones with Mic and 3-Button Apple Control (Black/Gloss)

I needed something for my daughters to use in the car yet I could use when i needed. These not only have a kool 3 button mic for the Iphone BUT work with just about anything. My daughters can now enjoy Klipsch like I do with my X10s! These isolate outside noise and sound incredible. Klipsch hit a home run!

I am a big fan of Klipsch to start off with, I own a pair of the Image X5 in ear headphones and a Klipsch surround sound system so when I began looking into over the ear headphones I had an idea to look at Klipsch. A little background about how I came to Klipsch. In 2009 I wanted the Beats by Dre for Christmas so I told my family. My mom did a lot of research and found that the Image X5 was cheaper and way better rated. I love the clarity it has and for such a small headphone it packs a great bass. Fast forward to 2011 and I am looking at over the ear headphones, by now the Beats by Dre had evolved from the Rap headphone to an everything headphone. I began to read the reviews of the Beats and saw their ratings had just tanked since their release. So I looked at Sony, Klipsch, and surprisingly Skullcandy, they actually receive some great reviews from users. I decided on Klipsch because I knew the product and I bought off Amazon so I could return it in two weeks or something if I hated it. So far I love them I think they are great, onto a review.

Build:

The build of these worries me, it scares me when headphones pack a carrying case because that means they break easily if they are not on your head. The Image One is built of plastic which didn't surprise me since the headphones were $140, a relatively cheap product from Klipsch. The headphones turn inward to fold into the case and I just see a problem arising there if you are going to pack it up every time you're done using them. The padding on the ear is amazing, it is the fake leather and it just feels amazing sitting on the ear. I have one complaint about the leather though, after sitting on my ear for over an hour I notice some sweat around the back of my ear, its just not vented well at all, Klipsch tried to give you the best seal over the ear they could. The headphones are incredibly light on your head, a benefit made possible by plastic, these were made so you could walk around with them, I am choosing to sit at my desk with them since I have the X5 already.

Sound:

The sound is nothing less than expected from Klipsch its very clear when off of a headphone amp. Off of the headphone amp the bass is nice, not as good as I would have liked but the overall sound is great. Now on a headphone amp these things shine. The bass is BOOMING, I listened to some Kanye West on Beats about a week ago then these on the amp and the Image One was way better than the Beats. One issue on the amp though, if you listen to Rap on a headphone amp the bass is a bit overpowering, it tended to blast out the other tones, I have been listening to Rock and you get the pop of the drum kick great and the background is not faded at all. So rap listeners beware of the amp you might have to adjust some settings. A point of weakness is the sound leaking, it isolates sound for you great but if you are listening to music kinda loud people around you will hear it. It doesn't leak much sound but if you're looking to blast your guilty pleasure secretly with a friend in the room, you might want to turn it down a bit.

Inside of the box was the carrying case, another headphone jack and an airplane jack. I found these to be a great purchase, at $140 for Klipsch its hard to pass up. I am not big on reviewing things but this one deserved a review. The sound is great, the build could be better but it would sacrifice the lightness of the headphone so its like a bittersweet thing. I would look into a headphone amp, you can find them cheap on ebay and amazon, it makes the sound amazing on them and you can leave it on your desk, they also make ones that look like an iPod nano that can go with a portable mp3 player. Its a great product regardless of being on/off and amp so don't hesitate to buy. - Earphones - Audiophile - Klipsch - Bass'

Movie Reviews - movie reviews, genre films

101 CULT MOVIES YOU MUST SEE BEFORE YOU DIE is a celebration of the world's oddest, most tasteless, eccentric, weird, grossest, obscure, silly, scary, wicked, pretentious, ineptly made and/or controversial films of the past 90 years. There aren't many Academy Award winners in Steven Jay Schneider's book but film buffs will find it a long, strange (but enjoyable) trip.

Schneider's book is arranged chronologically. The first entry, surely one of THE most famous cult films ever, UN CHIEN ANDALOU, dates from 1928. The last movie covered, BRICK, was released in 2005. In between those two entries can be found most of the 'usual suspects' such as ROCKY HORROR, HAROLD AND MAUDE, SISTERS, BUCKAROO BANZAI, SUNSET BOULEVARD, FRANKENHOOKER, THIS IS SPINAL TAP, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES, PINK FLAMINGOS, TOMMY, CRASH, EL TOPO, VANISHING POINT, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, etc. As with other books in this series, the joy is in being introduced to lesser-known titles such as SHOLAY, OUT OF THE PAST, GREY GARDENS, BANDE A PART and CITY OF LOST CHILDREN.

Schneider and his 16 contributors, a mix of college profs and film writers, offer up two-page summaries of each flick along with two photographs, many of which are in color. Generally the summaries are entertaining and insightful although occasionally you get the idea the writer is reaching for it and making 'much ado about nothing' (i.e. SHOWGIRLS!?!). Also, some entries give away the movie's ending, which may not please some readers.

I also wondered why certain films merited inclusion - like SHOWGIRLS and BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS - while other, more worthy movies - like FREAKS and DR. STRANGELOVE - didn't make the cut. But then, it's Schneider's book so what the heck!

In any case, film buffs should enjoy 101 CULT MOVIES. Whether you agree with all the titles chosen, Schneider & Co. dish up an interesting selection of boundary-stretching flicks. It's a hoot. Recommended. 101 Cult Movies You Must See Before You Die

They weren't blockbuster hits, they didn't receive a pile of awards, but they have a following of their own. "101 Cult Movies You Must See Before You Die" is a compilation of cult films that have come to prominence since the medium's inception. With films from around the world, these films have gained much infamy for their humor which pushed the limits of taste and decency during the release in the name of brutal honesty or for the sake of pushing the limit. "101 Cult Movies You Must See Before You Die" is a fine compendium for those who are searching for these films and want an understanding of their popularity. - Genre Films - Movie Reviews'

High Definition - ln46a550p, 1080p

Since pretty much everyone on here has given this TV the same praise, I will spare you all of the details it is certainly the best TV for the money out there today.

However, my customer service experience is something to note here. Like others, I was wary of making such a large purchase online. Low price + no sales tax and free shipping made up my mind. After seamlessly receiving the TV 4 days after ordering it, it broke withing 3 hours of being delivered (there was a loud snap-like sound), and there was no power. I immediately contacted Amazon, who told me to contact Samsung directly, and if they could not handle my concerns, call back. Samsung dispatched a technician to my house 4 days later, who told me that he "thought" it was a defective power card, and that it would take 1 - 2 weeks to get the part and come back for repair.

Now I think most of you will agree that you wouldn't want a TV that was refurbished after just 1 day. Samsung refused to replace it, saying their policy is to repair, not replace. I then emailed Amazon, asking for a new television, giving the above explanation. When I called for an update the next day, my issue had already been escalated, and a new TV was about to ship, no questions asked, at 0 cost to me.

In the end, I have Amazon did everything I asked and more, including crediting my price 4 times, from 1700 all the way to 1469. The biggest fear in buying something like this online is, "what if it breaks???" Well, mine did break, and if you buy from Amazon, you can be sure that you will be happy in the end no matter what. Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

First things first, I ordered this TV directly from Amazon and within a few days the price dropped and Amazon refunded the difference. Awesome! Amazon's White Glove delivery service delivered as promised and was OK to deal with; no issues at all. So for those of you wondering whether it is better to spend a few hundred bucks to order this set from a brick and mortar store; keep your money in your pocket and order from Amazon.

As for the TV, I am not a video expert type, but I do research big ticket items thoroughly before buying. This set and the previous generations received great reviews. However, I was torn between plasma and LCD. Being a big sports fan (lots of fast moving action on the screen) I had been leaning towards plasma. But the reviews of this set and the benefits of LCD over plasma (lighter, uses less energy, no risk of burn in and better for well lit rooms) made me make the plunge.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied. This is my first HDTV and I am using Directv HD service and the picture is outstanding. It is sharp, bright and overall beautiful. The only issue I have, which I was worried about with the LCDs, is that I do notice some pixelation when scenes move very fast (Thus 4 instead of 5 stars). However, it is not distracting but I do notice it.

The speakers are not as bad as some of the reviews would indicate. You just need to set the equalizer to the right settings. I have a home theatre set up so this is not a big issue, but to some it is so I thought I would comment on them.

The set looks great, is easy to set up and I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. Especially at this price. With my extra money I was able to buy a nice stand for the Samsung.

I hope this helps.

Why I bought this set:

My old tube TV suddenly burnt out, I guess it sensed that the change was in the air... I originally wanted to go with a 42" 720p set, but my partner insisted on getting a 1080p TV so "We'd be ready for the (near) future." After reading many reviews, I learned that you won't appreciate the 1080p hi-def on a set that's less than 42". So I started to look for a 46" 1080p TV, and my budget was [$...]. I first looked at 4661/4665 models, but soon realized that they were being replaced by the 46A550. Even though this is a 5 series TV that replaced two 6 series TVs (well, sort of, consider the 4/5/6/7 classification is new for 2008), the 46A550 trumps its predecessors in specs, mainly the contrast ratio. You might have read that the contrast ratio varies from one manufacturer to another since there's no standard for measuring, so it didn't matter too much for me. I also read that 4661/4665 had some firmware issues, and at the time of purchase, they were actually more expensive than 46A550 on Amazon. So 46A550 became the clear winner.

Performance:

So far so good. It's important to note that I currently do not have any HD input-just the standard cable signal and Wii via composite cables. Of course the picture quality is OK at best, but I am hardly complaining as I have faith in the set. Because this set is new (mine was assembled on March 31st and arrived to my house 10 days later), there aren't many extensive reviews online yet. Usually, the Sony sets lead the pack in comparison reviews, but they usually cost [$...] more than the runner-up. To my eyes, the Sony tends to display more details and Samsung does a better job delivering vibrant color and contrast. One might look slight better than the other, depends on your preferences, when they are next to each other. But either one would look fantastic just by itself.

Interface:

The menu is pretty easy to navigate through, and options are where you'd expect. However, because there's no dedicated PIP button, it was a little difficult to activate that. You'd have to either go through Menu or press the Tool button on the remote, then go down the menu and activate that feature. Also, I am not the biggest fan of the remote. It has back-lit feature, but in order to have all the buttons lit-up, Samsung gives us big soft rubbery buttons. Some of these buttons can get stuck if you press hard, and I am yet to use the back-lit feature cuz I usually have a light on in the room. The IR sensor can also be improved. It is located at the bottom right corner of the frame. My room isn't huge, so sometimes I am a little "too close" to the TV, and the remote wouldn't work because it is not aiming straight at the sensor. If the sensor was in the middle of frame, it'd probably work better. The aforementioned "imperfections" are definitely not deal-breakers.

Experience with Amazon and EGL shipping:

Like last time, it was a good experience this time. Amazon had very competitive price in the first place, and the 30-day price protection feature was a plus.

EGL shipping came on time. They delivered the TV to the room, put it on my stand and plugged in to make it worked fine. Noting to complain whatsoever.

Tips on extended warranty:

This TV comes with a 1yr service/labor warranty. If anything goes wrong, you do not need to ship it back. Instead, call Samsung and they will send a technician out to repair it on site.

I thought it'd be a good idea to get some extended warranty (say, 3 year?) on this [$...] toy. At the time of purchase, Amazon offered two 3-yr ext. warr. options on this particular model-Option 1 is from a 3rd party vendor (with the envelop and seal logo) and Option 2 one from Samsung (with a Samsung logo). Option 1 was slight cheaper, but didn't receive very good ratings on Amazon, while Option 2 had no ratings at all. Option 2 didn't even have thorough explanation on what's covered and what's not.

After lengthy research, i found out that the "Samsung ext. service" was really offered through Service Net ([...]), and they told me the fine prints of the warranty can be found at ([...]). The 3-yr Samsung plan through Amazon overlaps the first year manufacturer's warranty, so really you are only getting 2 extra years out of the deal. Service Net sells their versions of the "Samsung 3yr ext. warranty", which really gives you 3 additional years after the first year, but is way WAY more expensive. Don't know why...

None of the above sounded like a sure-sell to me, so here's what I did. I found out that my Visa card has a feature called Warranty Protection. Basically it extends the original manufacturer's warranty for another year. 'n at the end of the 2nd year if you wish to extend the warranty even further, Visa offers an additional 3-yr plan that's about [$...]. You can call your bank and/or Visa regarding this feature.

Hope my review helps... - Lcd Tv - Hdtv - Ln46a550p - 1080p'

Henckels Everedge Knife Set - cutlery, henckels

We purchased these knives...and think they've been worth every penny. They're sharp, comfortable to grip, aesthetically appealing, and come in a nice assortment. Certain knives like the Chef's knife and the table/steak knives have become the proverbial 'work horse' of the set while the tomato knife hasn't really seen the light of day since it left the box. The polypropylene handles are capable of withstanding high temperatures and, because of their nature, do not harbor bacteria like some sets that contain rivets or those with wooden handles. While this is a great set, it is not a high-end set, so you may want to look elsewhere if that's what you're after. None of the knives have a full-tang (where the steel goes all the way through the handle) or rivets. The handles are plastic. Also, the steel is from Japan (if I'm not mistaken) instead of Germany and boy, do the Germans know how to make steel! So, dear friends, if you're looking for a set that you can pass on to your children and your children's children then you should indeed move up the Henckels line or look into Cutco (my favorites) or another high-end set. If you're looking to buy a good, inexpensive set that looks great and is every bit as functional, then look no more! Also, consider looking into a pair of kitchen shears... they're indespensible! J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set with Bonus Cheese Knife

Our knives were in pretty awful condition - I was getting tired of pushing the blade of the steak knife back in the handle every time I sawed through a piece of meat. Sure I'd love to have a set of top-grade Henckels but given the price of something like that plus the fact that we don't use knives that often, I figured this second-tier set was worth a try. The knives are nice and sharp. The construction quality is decent and it suits our purposes fine - they look good, cut well and fit in the block like they are supposed to. So what if they don't do well in the dishwasher? How much trouble can it be to hand-wash a knife? For $..., they're a fine deal. I'm glad I bought them.

First, a caveat: These knives, while trash by Henckels' traditional standards, are still better than the huge majority of knives sold each year. They are not, however, comparable in any way to the "real" knives made by Henckels, Wusthof, or other top manufacturers.Want performance from your knives? Here's what to look for:(1) "Made in Germany." There's not much to say about this; the Germans make no compromises when it comes to making steel, and their manufacturing technology is among the finest as well. Ask your favorite surgeons where their scalpels come from; ask the most knowledgeable machinists you know where the tool bits they respect most are made; ask the best mechanics you know what "country of origin" is listed on the boxes containing the finest bearings. You'll get an occasional "Japan" in there -- and the Japanese certainly deserve recognition, though they have yet to enter the cooking knife market in earnest -- but Germany usually dominates.(2) A name of distinction. It's true, there are many good knives made by lesser names, at lesser prices. The trick is, which ones? I have to tell you, I have been selecting knives for over 20 years, I use them every day and have studied their characteristics carefully, and I still am fooled sometimes by promising-looking knives with concealed but nonetheless tragic flaws. Make sure your brand is made by a manufacturer who stands behind their products, so you can exchange or return your knives if you are unhappy. It is YOUR satisfaction that matters, forget all the reviews written by "experts," how do they know what will make you happy?(3) Buy knives whose handles fit your hand and whose weight distribution fits your strength and style. This might sound obvious, but most people skip it. There is no substitute for this point. My grandmother is a German native, my inspiration for entering the culinary profession, and one of the greatest geniuses of kitchen wizardry I have ever known. She also curses my beloved collection of mostly Henckels and Wusthof knives when she visits -- despite her loyalty to all things German! -- because nearly all the knives I've chosen fit my large masculine hands, not her dainty, nimble feminine ones. I would never dishonor her by saying she's wrong...and she means me no disrespect by saying my knives are lousy. They are...for her. Free wisdom, if you are tempted to discard Grandma's good advice, ask yourself: What's more malleable, a steel knife or my hand?(4) Consider your use habits. Are you going to toss them in the dishwasher? Make sure your steel is as stainless as possible (not all "stainless" is equal, or even close, so do your homework). Are you the type who is disciplined about using a steel and skilled enough to do his/her own sharpening, or at least inclined towards this goal? (Most people, including the majority of culinary professionals, are not. I acquired the interest over time, but initially I was like most cooks, more interested in what a fine knife could do than in what made it capable of doing.) Stay away from "stay sharp" knives, the hardness of the steel will only frustrate you -- and you probably know this already. Are you going to use them with wet hands? Share them with youngsters? Display them as a showpiece for visitors? All these things factor into your decision, be honest with yourself about what you want and you'll have a better chance of getting what you need.(5) Buy fewer fine knives rather than many lesser ones. Most people don't know what the various knives are actually intended for; even fewer understand that the intended uses are just guidelines, and that individual skill and preference will sometimes make selection different than conventional wisdom would suggest. More knives means more maintenance; it doesn't necessarily mean more versatility. I once had a young cooking student who stubbornly stuck to a single small knife for everything, a habit I tried to dissuade him of until I noticed that he could cut nearly everything better with that one little knife than any of the other students -- or, sadly, his instructor -- could with ANY knife! He explained that he had inherited his love of whittling with a pocket-sized knife from his deceased father, and spent nearly all his time creating things out of wood as his father had taught him. Well, no wonder! This young man still found a couple of tools he had use for -- a cleaver and fillet knife among them -- but the huge sets of cutlery would not have improved him one bit. You may be a bit more diverse but you're probably not infinitely wealthy; given constrained funds, you would be smart to concentrate them where they can do you the most good.Enjoy! - Kitchen - Henckels - Knife Set - Cutlery'

I was finally able to connect my netbook to my older Sony TV with HDTV inputs. I can now watch streaming video on my large TV. The setup was easy and the picture quality is good enough for my needs. I canceled my cable (except for my high speed internet) and now use my netbook to watch news and movies. The device is small enough to hide away from sight and it does not get in the way at all. It is the perfect solution if you have any older TV. Sabrent TV-PCCT VGA to Component Converter

I wanted to display my PC on my 57 inch HD Toshiba rear projection TV, but the converter board in the TV has malfunctioned. The TV will only display digital signals, i.e. HD receiver, Blu-ray player. Therefore I need to convert the display signals from my PC to digital. This box worked right out of the box with no software. Please note that there is a button on the side of the device, that is label "Mode". If your TV is a HD TV, press this button three (3) times to display in 1081 mode!

I bought this device so that I could hook up my computer to my 50" television and stream movies, review pictures, slide shows and home made videos. The machine is a great little device, it was easy to set up, no complicated install or software configuration, just out of the box and ready to go. Also what I liked is that it has its own power supply (not using USB connection from my computer)with a power button. What I like most about it, it has a format button that lets me choose if I want to see the images on 640i, 720i or 1080i.

The only thing to consider is that the output is either VGA for a computer screen or component cable, but it doesn't have a simple RCA cable. However, all my newer TV's have component connections so its not a problem for me.

I bought this because i own a Dreamcast with a vga box but my tv doesn't support 480p through my vga input. Not only did this allow me to play my dreamcast in 480p but also 720p!!! It also allows me to capture gameplay in 720p with my hd pvr. I am insanely happy. The screen looks offset but that's because the game has black borders around it which are always present. I was able to use a zoom option on my tv to fix that problem. The only issue i have with this is that it gives me a no signal error even if it's working right(and it always does) and i have to reset the box to get the message to go away.

Don't waste your money. This product does not work at all. I tested it using different tvs and different computers all display resolutions, cables, you name it and could never get it to work. They even sent me another one and still no go. Total garbage

I was connecting this device to an LCD at work and it would not display a picture. I called the number for Sabrent I found on their website. The guy said he'd research the issue and call me back. I explained I needed an answer same day so I could buy a replacement if needed. He never called back so I followed up the next day. His response was "oh I forgot" - no apology. I asked for a supervisor and explained what happened. His response was "so what's your point?" He told me I probably needed a new device and hung up on me!!!! I emailed the company to let them know of the terrible service I received and to date, have received no response. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT. There are similarly priced items that are just as good, if not better, from far more reputable companies that actually value their customers. - Pc To Tv Converter'

Keyless Entry - dead bolts, keyless

I purchased 5 of these locks and four of them broke within 2 years. Even if you call the company that makes the lock "Anaconda" (I got their phone number off the internet) they will admit that their lock wasn't made to last. The problem is not the electrical part, it's the mechanical part. So in other words "wear and tear" should make the lock break. All four of my locks broke from the same part.

However, they are really good as in giving you a replacement during the warranty period. (You still have to pay for shipping.) However, what use is a replacement when it will break again soon anyway. The good thing about this lock is even if the keyless feature breaks, you can still use keys and it will work like a normal lock. The guy at Anaconda did try to sell me a whole different lock that doesn't use batteries. He stated the newer, no battery lock they have was made to last a very long time. Electronic Keyless Deadbolt System - Antique Brass #419

I purchased this item for its low price; however, the quality is also below average. I'm a instruction-following type of guy, but I eventually had to put them down and wing it because the instructions were so vague and unhelpful. The construction of the unit was semi-irritating. The mounting bracket would not go flush with the door causing the bolt motor to not function right, so I had to screw in an extra piece of metal to wedge it out. The instructions say you don't need a power drill unless its a new door, but this is false, you will definitely need a power drill for installation. In short, if you have the extra $50, I'd recommend buying a better quality unit.

If it wasn't for the fact that 3 keys are included which can be used without the electronics, this would be a complete throw-away item. We purchased two of these, one for the front and one for the back. The first one had the left/right lead reversed so when I switched it according to the instructions, it actually worked in the opposite way, causing a strain on the electric motor. Noticing the factory mistake immediately, I switched the lead back to the other position. The lock worked 3 times and that was that. The second lock never worked at all ... in any direction ... with the door open and four brand new energizer AA batteries.

Another problem is that these locks aren't very friendly with standard metal entry doors. What I'm getting at is this ... On a wood door you have the ability to tighten down on the screws tight enough so that part of the lock gently bites into the wood which helps to prevent things from loosening up later on. But if you have a standard metal door with hollow areas where the screws would go, you have no recourse but to drill the holes too small, add some liquid nails to the screw, tighten the screws down just enough but without overturning them ... and then let everything sit overnight. That's not in the instructions though. There are no instructions nor hardware for hollow areas.

Be careful with the screws when you tighten the deadbolt down because on standard metal doors too tight means that the bolt may not move easily and freely anymore. That's imperative because if movement isn't smooth and easy, you'll end up with excessive pressure on the already cheaply manufactured motor. All in all, for this price it was a total waste of our money, nothing but a garbage product that should be taken off the market.

I installed the lock a month ago.

After purchasing it i read the reviews.

So far so good. My 80 Year old mother was having trouble turning keys and being locked out. So now she has two options. If she has difficulty with the key she uses the code which is also great if there are any medical situations. If it fails any time soon i will replace it. - Dead Bolts - Keyless Entry - Keyless - Electronic Lock'

Aspire One 9-cell Battery - acer aspire one battery, aspire one battery

No surprise, this is a big battery. It extend out the back and off the bottom a good inch. SO WHAT! I didn't buy this battery for it's small size, I bought it for the extended runtime! First indications are I'll get about 9 hours on a charge. Even with the battery the netbook is still smaller than anything else, and now I can go all day w/out plugging in. Exactly what I ordered! If you're looking for something small, use the battery that the computer comes with. If you're looking for an extended runtime, this is what you want! Extended Capacity Laptop Battery for Acer Aspire One A110, A150, AOA110 AOA150 ZG5 Series (Black, 9 cells)

The obvious appeal of this product is the extended battery life. I needed a replacement battery for my little Acer netbook after the original (3 cell) Acer battery stopped taking a charge, and for the price difference it just makes sense to get the super-battery. So far, the battery has lived up to the claims. I have stopped packing up my power cord for carrying the netbook around, and I don't need to be near an outlet to use the device for more than a couple of hours at a time. I always liked the little computer; now that I don't have to worry about plugging it in every few hours I like it even more.

Upon initial charging, the netbook did indeed report a 9 hr charge, and a full charge continues to register around 9 hrs. Naturally, the actual use-time varies depending on how the computer is used. For example, the netbook draws more power when displaying video than it does when word processing. Actual use-time is nevertheless impressive for either purpose, and far exceeds the available use-time of the smaller 3 cell batteries.

I recently sat in a major-chain book-store and surfed the web while waiting for an author event to begin. I got several discrete but envious glances from people who probably noticed that I was surfing tether-free, and that I had plenty of room for the small device even on my absurdly tiny cafe table. (I deduced that my table was originally ordered for the children's department and was only pressed into service due to the unexpected demand for high-priced and strangely-flavored coffee drinks, which clearly exceeded the negligible demand for actual books.) The device performed well, and it was nice to have plenty of charge available - the little netbook is finally living up to its potential.

The battery is indeed physically larger and heavier than the original, because it is a 9 cell rather than a 3 cell. But whatever drawback that may offer is more than made up for by the added convenience of the extended battery life. It looks good, and it is shaped to look like it belongs. It also lifts the back of the netbook slightly, tilting the base and the keyboard at a shallow angle. That may take some people a little time to get used to - but it looks jaunty and it doesn't make typing any more difficult. And the little netbook still weighs less than many of the hardcover books that the customers at the bookstore were avidly not buying.

It should theoretically have a longer lifetime than the comparable 3 cell batteries, because of the longer charge/discharge cycle, but we will just have to wait and see. Overall, the extended capacity 9 cell battery is a great product that makes the netbook more portable and more versatile.

This a great battery. I don't have to carry around my power cord with me all the time. It lasts about 2 1/2 times longer than my stock one did. I like the angle it adds to the computer. I recommend it.

Had the battery a few weeks. I am happy with it. The first time I charged it, it showed 6+10 hours. The next time it was 7+15. Have not charged it since.

A great feature of this larger battery for me, is that it raises the back end of my netbook one inch - making it easier to type on.

The battery is completely dead after a month of use, and Dekcell will not respond to my repeated inquiries through their website. Buyer beware... so far the "1 year warranty" has proved to be useless.

I bought this battery because I'm always on the goand don't have much time to charge my netbook so I saw this battery as the perfect solution to my problems but it only worked for about 2 month and after that didn't worked at all.

It may have been defective. I charged it per the enclosed directions (overnight charge, 12 hours) but the battery never charged. After an easy,

quick return to Amazon, I ordered another through Amazon from a different supplier.

I'm getting close to 8 hours of battery life out of the battery doing a variety of tasks, including idle time. What a huge improvement over the wimpy battery Acer includes with the AAO.

The footprint of the battery really isn't that big. As others have written, it works well as a handle and props the machine up a little bit - I find that makes it a little easier to type when placed on a flat surface. I don't have any problems using it on my legs as others have stated. The ability to tilt back the screen is significantly impacted, worse than I was expecting. I don't see this impacting my usability but I can see how this could be a problem for some.

The battery dimensions are ever so slightly smaller than the factory battery, making the fit a little sloppy. The latch pins to hold the battery in place for the AAO aren't stout either. I have to wonder how it will hold up over time. So far so good.

The battery I received had a lower mAh rating than what was listed: 6600 mAh is what I got. Amazon was great in resolving this minor discrepancy.

Overall I'm satisfied and would recommend this product to others.

I bought this battery just before my first semester of college and was very very pleased. At first. I used it regularly almost every day and I loved having between 8 and 10 hours of battery life. Then second semester rolled around and it won't hold a charge anymore. I reverted to my original battery and am in the market for a new brand of battery pack. - Aspire One Battery - Acer Aspire One - Acer Aspire One Battery - Netbook'

I enjoyed the movie. The historical sets were great. The acting was very good. The dialogs had a ring of truth. The love story, although it was a minor part of the movie, was done well. The story needed to be told and the movie told it well. One of the bad points was the movie jumped around in Wilberforce's life quite a bit. Following the time shifts was confusing at times. As the movie went along, the plot was easier to follow.

I read a short biography of Wilberforce and I heard a talk on Newton. I can't claim any expertise on these men, but what little I know of them made me question the movie's historical accuracy. Newton had a congregation. He was not a hermit mopping up a church. He was a popular Anglican preacher. Finney does a great job in the part, but I don't think it represented Newton very well. Wouldn't a better charactorization have been a more historic protayal of Newton who was a slave trader that became a slave of Christ by serving and to preaching all? Rather than a guilt-ridden old man?

I also wished the movie spent more time on Wilberforce's conversion and beliefs. Wilberforce was a thoughtful Christian who wrote books on what he believed. Wilberforce's stamina according to Wilberforce was his reformed faith. The movie just had him studying nature in a worshipful manner in his garden.

In summary, I liked the movie and I enjoyed it. The message needed to be told and it was told well. How England avoided a bloody civil war because of this issue and resolve the issues through a peaceful process was instructive. However, Wilberforce and Newton deserved to have a more accurate protrayal of their lives. Amazing Grace

I've long been a fan of William Wilberforce - a man that God used greatly for a great cause: the abolition of slavery and the reformation of manners into the English society. Working at a private Christian school, I often refer to Wilberforce as an example to our students of what God can do with one man wholly committed to Him. In fact, I took sixteen of our students to see the movie when it was released and it had a very profound impact on their lives and thinking -- they saw with their own eyes the struggle of Wilberforce's life, the great cause to which he gave himself fully, and the great joy that comes from a life given in service to the King of Kings.

While I strongly recommend that all Christians watch this movie, parents I'll warn you that the issue of slavery isn't easy to watch or understand at a young age -- I would recommend this movie to middle school students and older, but probably not elementary-aged students.

There are some wonderful resources that you can get to accompany this movie for family discussions and devotions. While most of the Wilberforce books are lengthy, but excellent, let me tell you about a few lesser-known gems. First, John Piper has a great little 76 page book titled Amazing Grace in the Life of William Wilberforce -- great read. This same material is actually found in another book by Piper that is simply outstanding -- it is the third book in a series by Piper to reintroduce our generation to some of the great saints of the faith -- Book Three is titled The Roots of Endurance and examines the lives of John Newton, Charles Simeon and William Wilberforce. Finally, one of my favorite finds is a 5 disk CD audio drama set titled Amazing Grace produced by the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre -- you can listen to the lives of Newton, Wilberforce and Olaudah Equiano (a slave who purchased his freedom and was instrumental in the abolition movement in England).

So, purchase the movie, but also look for these additional resources to help deepen the discussion at home with your kids.

AMAZING GRACE is a beautifully mounted, well-scripted, powerful film that reminds us that there were heroes in the late 1700s who vehemently fought the fight for abolition of slavery. Benefiting from a tight intelligent script by Steven Knight and directed with great sensitivity and fluidity by Michael Apted, the film captures the flavor of the turn of the 18th century into 19th century in England when slavery was a commodity the wealthy could ill afford to lose, and how the courage and perseverance of William Wilberforce created probably one of the first human rights movements on record.

William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) witnessed the horrors of transporting slaves from Africa to be sold around the world to wealthy plantation owners and to serve as cheap and disrespected servants to the British populace. Encouraged by a previous slave dealer John Newton (Albert Finney) turned contrite priest, his friend Prime Minister William Pitt (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the informed woman of his life Barbara Spooner (Romola Garai), Wilberforce bonds with a band of abolitionists including Thomas Clarkson (Rufus Sewell) and Oloudaqh Equiano (Youssou N'Dour) and begins long years of battling for abolition in the Parliament where cads such as Lord Tarleton (Ciarán Hinds) and the Duke of Clarence (Toby Jones) fight his every word.

One of the hallmarks of this fine film is the dignity it sustains: in a film that could have easily focused on depictions of slave abuse to make its point, it instead elects to keep the focus on the heart of the struggle against the inhumanity by subtle yet powerful means. The title of the film, of course, comes form the song the reformed John Newton wrote as he had a life altering experience to end his slave trading to fight for human rights. It is a haunting reminder that is used throughout the film in the score by David Arnold. The cast is uniformly excellent with not only first class performances by each of the leads, but also by superb cameos from such fine artists as Michael Gambon, Nicholas Farrell, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Jeremy Swift, and Stephen Campbell Moore. The atmosphere of both elegance and poverty of London is captured in the cinematography by Remi Adefarasin. This is an epic film with a powerful message that deserves the attention of us all. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, November 07'
