Professional - x-acto, professional

I'm taking an art class for grad school and needed a nicer sharpener. Had two cheap ones I hated. The reviews seem to heavily favor a couple of Panasonic models, but nobody seems to have them in stock. The next highest rated sharpener was this one, and it had a couple positive reviews, so I ordered it.

Pros:

Weight: Doesn't get pushed back when you stick a pencil in it.

Weight II: The motor is heavy. It takes up about half the volume of the box. It feels like a substantial device.

Motor: Steady and reasonably quiet. Not jerky or wobbly. Doesn't strain during sharpening.

Sharpener: Shaves evenly and smoothly and won't eat pencils unnecessarily fast. Produces nice, long points.

Fit: Standard Prismacolor pencils fit neatly in the hole and won't wobble during sharpening. Seems to be manufactured with rather tight tolerances.

Cons:

Sucker feet: They prevent lift, but not sliding. They should have used regular rubber feet.

Static: The plastic has a tendency to get a static charge and makes shavings cling to the outside when you empty the shaving tray. Wipes up without much trouble.

Summary:

Pros easily outweigh the cons. It performs the way you'd expect a high quality sharpener to perform. I can't imagine I'd be significantly happier with a competing product. X-Acto 1744 Heavy-Duty Electric Pencil Sharpener, Black, 1 Unit

I was a little hesitant to go with this brand as I had never heard of it. Also, at the the time of purchase, this product had only 9 reviews, although all were largely positive.

However, after reading "Truth and Justice's" review, I decided to try this one out. The sharpener is everything he/she said it was. By far, this is the most powerful sharpener I have ever used in my life and I have been in numerous office environments.

To address the complaint of one reviewer that the sharpener eats the entire pencil, let me explain my experience. I just got through a stack of about 30 pencils and my experience is this is dependent on the brand/quality of the pencil. For most pencils, this was not a problem at all and the sharpening came to a natural conclusion.

For a few varieties, it did eat up a lot of pencil, but i realized after a while that the pencils were sharpened long before and I did not always need to get that sense of completion. I would just take the pencil out after a few seconds. As I mentioned previously, this thing is a machine, and if you keep the pencil in there, it will keep sharpening it until you have nothing left. I view this as part of the positive experience.

I highly recommend this unit.

So far this has been an awesome pencil sharpner. I received it quickly. Most important it is durable, when I first received it all my kids were excited to use it. And of course one of them put the eraser end in first...but I was able to pull out the metal piece and it works just fine. Worth the money, wish I would have bought this before I bought the others.

When I was a kid, we had a boston electric pencil sharpener.

So you can imagine my happiness/surprise when I saw "Xacto by Boston" on the box. I felt better about my purchase already, because Xacto means nothing to me, really, as far as pencil sharpeners go. Seeing as how I had just spent a small fortune on a pencil sharpener, I needed something to make me feel better but I had already gone through several manual and one battery powered sharpener and I really needed something as good as the ol' Boston we had when I was a child.

Other interesting details from the box:

1) This supposedly has a receptacle size 7. The largest is a 10.

2) On a scale of 1 to 4, this one is rated for "heavy" use (a 3). The only higher usage is "continuous" (a 4).

3) It has a whopping 2 year guarantee.

4) The box also says "Auto-reset prevents motor burnout". we already used this feature. My kids sharpened about 50 pencils IN A ROW. it was soooo satisfying for them to see a perfectly sharpened pencil emerge each and every time they sharpened (even my wife's friend came by and wanted to sharpen a few). But, they overheated the poor sharpener. it stopped running. Sho nuff, the next day after it had cooled down it was ready for action again!

Overall, i have to say I was VERY unhappy to spend $40 to get a good sharpener, but this one has every indication of lasting a long, long, time.

I would rate this a definite BUY, once you gag down the almost $40 price tag. I wish I had bought it to begin with!

I teach 1st grade and we go through lots of pencils a day. I have had 2 other electric sharpeners and was tired of one side of the pencil never getting sharp enough to expose the whole lead at the end. Kids were picking at the wood all the time trying to get their pencils to work. I researched pencil sharpeners and relied mostly on reviews so I wanted to let all the teachers out there know, this sharpener is my favorite. It is quick and pencils are sharp all the way around and life in 1st grade is all good!!

I use an electric pencil sharpener every single day of my life, for hours at a time. The one I've relied on for years -- a "lesser" X-Acto model -- started to grind and break lead, so I figured I'd splurge and buy a top-of-the-line X-Acto model. This is not, however, top-of-the-line.

1) The blades do not sharpen the pencil. Sure, they hone it into a sharp-looking cone like all pencil sharpeners do -- but they leave a substantial flat end to the point which is, by any draughtsman's standard, not at all "sharp." Maybe this defect was a problem only with the one I bought, but for $40 I would have expected that its main usage would have at least been tested. It is NOT a "sharpener."

2) Most importantly, however, the actual blades are recessed so far into the guts of this machine that you have to reserve 3-4" of pencil to hold before the blades even engage. I frequently use pencils down to 1" or less before I ditch them, so that means I'm losing 1/3 of the life of each pencil. The sharpener I'm replacing (and to which I'm returning, after I return THIS clunker) engage almost immediately upon insertion of the pencil itself.

Yes, this review sounds insane. But if sharp pencils are your life, then don't buy this extremely poorly-designed deep-action pencil-wasting "blunter." - X-acto - Professional - Pencil Sharpener - High School'

Wireless Keyboard - keyboard, cordless keyboard

Picked up one of these yesterday and so far I'm loving it. It's quiet, the key feel isn't bad, the key layout is good (like the enlarged Delete key), and some of the special keys (like the volume control) work even though I haven't bothered to install HP's software (yet, anyhow).

Wireless range is sufficient for my needs. The little USB fob plugged right into my existing USB hub and was recognized by my system instantly without having to load any drivers. Neat!

I love the look of the keyboard, and it's very small without a ton of useless plastic around the edges - just a narrow border about half an inch wide. I was using an older wired USB Apple keyboard with my PC before this - one with white keys and a transparent body - which I chose because it didn't waste a ton of desk space. I'm not sure why manufacturers feel they have to surround their keyboards with an idiotic ocean of useless plastic. Until now, Apple seemed to be one of the few manufacturers who realized that it's not only unnecessary, but also really ugly.

I was never entirely happy with the key feel of the Apple though, and it collected dirt (and cat hair) like nobody's business. And I wanted a wireless keyboard so I could remove it from the desk entirely when I needed the space. This keyboard isn't much larger (same width, about an inch deeper), but doesn't suffer from the same . . . hygiene issues, and the keyfeel is much better.

According to everything I've read the batteries (which it comes with a set of already installed) should last for about a year, at which time I'll probably replace them with rechargeables.

It's a little spendy, and it isn't quite as space-saving as Apple's old design, but given its looks and performance I'd recommend it. HP Wireless Elite Keyboard

HP Wireless Elite Keyboard

I needed a modern keyboard to replace the archaic Win95 PS/2 version that I had been using since 1996. I wanted a portable, wireless keyboard with a small footprint. Essentially, that means no wrist pad. Also, I did NOT want a bloated keyboard with a bunch of gimmicky buttons. Finally, I wanted to keep a reasonable budget --- I did not want to break the bank for a simple keyboard. Seems simple enough... but it took me *months* to find one that matched all my criteria. In the end, the HP Elite was my only option. There were no other viable alternatives.

For the most part, the keyboard meets (but does not exceed) my expectations. It's everything the photos show you, and everything the specs sheet say. Nothing more, nothing less.

The keyboard is incredibly slim and lightweight. It's not intrusive, and feels nice to have on your lap while typing. It also has an excellent range --- the signal remains strong even when I'm several yards away. This would've made for an excellent HTPC keyboard, except it lacks the all-important thumb pad.

Speaking of thumb pads, the HP Elite feels very much like a laptop keyboard. It's very quiet, and each keystroke doesn't travel very far. There are dedicated buttons for volume, and also one for sleep. There F1-F11 buttons can double as multimedia buttons when used in conjunction with the Fn (Function) button. I like the minimalist design, even though I was a bit disappointed by the lack of zoom buttons.

There's no need for a wired receiver cluttering your desktop; all the keyboard requires is a little USB dongle plugged into the PC. The dongle has a blue LED that lights up with every keystroke registered. The LED is ridiculously bright, and can be quite annoying if you're working in a darkened room.

There is no indicator at all for the status of your CAPS and NUM locks. It doesn't bother me, although it might bug some people.

My only real complaint with the keyboard is its build quality. It is simply ATROCIOUS. The keyboard is essentially assembled from four panels: Top, Bottom, Left, and Right. The top & bottom are rock solid. The keys themselves feel great. But the side panels? Ugh!!! They feel ridiculously cheap. And you have to touch these panels whenever you grab the wireless keyboard. They are not even completely fastened into the chassis; the slightest contact with your fingers will cause these panels to jiggle. Waaay too much wiggle room in these sections. If you grab the keyboard by the sides, you will hear the side panels move, rattle, and/or squeak. Just awful, AWFUL construction --- this feels very much like one of those cheap OEM accessories that come free with low-end DELL and HP systems. When I first saw the keyboard on display at Fry's, I noticed one of the side panels was missing. I naïvely thought it was just a fluke accident; now I know that wasn't the case.

Despite the poor build quality, I remain more or less pleased with the keyboard. Functionally, it has met all my expectations. And it's not like there are viable alternatives out there that meets all my criteria. Definitely a big change from the bulky Win95 keyboard I had been using since 1996. They don't make 'em like they used to, though. That old keyboard stayed with me for 13 long years. I don't think this HP keyboard will last half as long, Given its flimsy construction, I would be surprised if this thing even lasted 3 years.

I give it 3 stars out of 5.

I bought this KB for my home PC because I wanted something minimalist and simple. I also liked the style (all black with silver trim on each end). It was such an improvement over my Logitech MX5000 at home as well as my Logitech EX100 at work that I ordered a second one for my office shortly after the first.

I have worked in IT for over 10 years and am very observant and picky about my computer accessories. I have probably used 30 different keyboards extensively. I have never been more impressed by a keyboard than now. These keys are very shallow and responsive. This required some major adjustment when I first got the keyboard. If you transition between this and other keyboards that have keys that are a "normal" depth/stroke, you might have trouble. If you are used to typing on laptops, then you'll feel right at home. The keys require very little effort to press so you can really lay down text at a rapid pace. I can comfortably type at 90+ WPM on this KB. The keys also feel like they are mounted well - for instance, you can push on the very outside corner of the space bar and it will go down, unlike some keyboards that are very resistant to off-center keypresses.

This keyboard is very quiet. My old Logitechs sounded like typewriters when I really got going. This one isn't silent, but I can type in a quiet room and be at peace. With a little restraint, you could safely type while someone is sleeping nearby. The plastic is dense and I think a lot of the hollow tapping noise you would get out of a thicker keyboard is muted on this model.

Speaking of the plastic, I would say the construction is OK. After a few weeks of use, I noticed that the silver trim on each side rattles if you play with it. Also, the rubber feet on the bottom of the KB are a little thin and the KB will rock a little if on an uneven surface (this also causes a tapping noise as the keyboard rocks back and forth). I resolved this on my warped desk with some Scotch tape.

No clue on battery life yet. I'm approaching a month so far.

As far as features go, there are none. There is no software to install, no caps lock/num lock lights, and no assignable function keys. There is an Fn button so the function keys can double as navigation buttons for a media player (start, stop, pause, eject). The F10-F11 keys have screen brightness icons, which I assume is a carryover from the HP Elite PC series. There are also volume up/down/mute buttons above the number pad. Other than that it is a plain jane keyboard - just what a keyboard should be. It has little folding legs in the rear to prop up the keyboard but this KB is so thin I think I like it better when it is laying flat on the desk.

Some reviews suggest that the keyboard misses keystrokes and sometimes doubletypes. I observed this one time in my office. I don't know if it was a wireless interference issue, but this is NOT normal for this KB. As I said I own two and have purchased a third for a coworker who fell in love with the design. Of the three I have used, none have had a problem with doubletyping or missing keystrokes. I even use this keyboard in conjunction with a Microsoft wireless mouse and there are no interference issues. I have played modern FPS games and there is no lag or delay or whatever.

In short, this keyboard is an excellent bargain, considering it is wireless. - Cordless Keyboard - Keyboard - Hp - Elite'

Water Filter For Refrigerator

I paid almost as much for this as I would have had to pay in the store, and it has never worked since the day I installed it. I kept thinking that maybe it needed to be in awhile and the bad taste would go away, but it has not. Once in awhile it tastes better for a glass or two, but most of the water and ice are terrible. I had a filter in that came with the refrigerator for two years and never had any bad ice or water, and ever since I changed to this one it has all been bad, so there must be something wrong with the filter. It is supposed to be the exact filter that came with my fridge when it was new according to the website, but it does not work the same. I am not entirely sure if it is even new, perhaps they are recycled or maybe it was just defective, but it is too difficult to try to fix it through the internet and the mail, so now I will be forced to go to the local store and buy another after just paying for a new one. If I were you, I would just get your replacements at a local store, if it doesn't work right, at least you can take it back easily and exchange it. I will not order one this way again, I will use a hardware store or department or appliance store. Whirlpool 4396841 PUR Push Button Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter, 1-Pack

This filter lasted about 7 months for our family of four. It provides crystal clear and very good tasting drinking water. It's very quick and easy to replace and it can be done in about 30 seconds. The only down side is the cost is a little on the high side and this filter only removes 4 different contaminants. I pay a few more dollars now and get the PUR 4396710 that removes 12 different contaminants including harmful substances like lead, mercury, asbestos. If you want good tasting water then this filter will do the trick. If you want good tasting and healthy water then get the PUR 4396710.

Overall we have found this to be a great water filter. But we have had our water tested by a professional, both at the tap, and at the filtered tap on the refrigerator. Both waters tested the same for chlorine content, however, the particle contaminants were greatly reduced by the filter on the refrigerator.

Something to note on your water filter.

The light is merely a timed indicator of when they want you to replace the filter. Think of it as a "countdown timer" that starts as soon as you reset it. It is in no way measuring the amount of water you are consuming... Personally, I used to change out the filter every 6 months when the indicator light came on, but we rarely use the water/ice now, so I haven't changed it (or reset it) in over a year although I probably will soon. I actually cut the first one in half to see how "contaminated" the filter was and to my surprise, it looked like a brand new filter...

The life of a filter depends on a couple of things.

1. The amount of contaminants in your water (well water is typically the worst)

2. The amount of water that passes through the filter

If you have low contaminants and/or use very little filtered water, your filter will last much longer than 6 months. If you pay attention to the amount of water flow and the size of your ice cubes, you can more accurately determine the proper time to replace the filter.

I have county water and we also have installed a "whole house" water filtration system, so I can probably get closer to 2 years out of a filter. Obviously, not everyone has these installed though, just use common sense on when to replace your filter and you'll be fine.

P.S. Why is it more expensive per unit to buy the 3-pack than it is to buy the 2-pack? Am I the only one that found this odd?

When I installed the new filter I didn't realize that we would go through a period where the water tasted "funny", at least that's how my wife described it. It took about a week for the taste of the water to return to normal. That was the only thing that I didn't realize when I replaced the filter. Besides that it worked fine.

I don't know why but the water tastes horrible after I installed the filter. I ran the water for a while like it said to do and have tried using for a couple weeks but I just can't stand the taste. It apparently doesn't work.

Update: It seems to taste fine in the morning and afternoon but horrible in the evenings. Not sure why that is.'

Kindle 3 Case - kindle 3 case, light

I've noticed that like myself customers have been concerned primarily with two things regarding the new lighted case from amazon. These are: 1)The weight and 2) The uneven lighting. My review will briefly discuss these two things.

1)The Weight - The lighted leather case is a nice weight, sturdy and comfortable to hold. In ounces it is about the weight of the kindle itself however don't let that concern you. With the case on it feels like a medium sized paperback, however it is far much more comfortable to hold. It's easy to hold the case open like a book (nice for couch and table type reading) or to fold the front back and close it with the bungee so that the bungee doesn't hang around (this is good for bedtime reading).Closing the front back with bungee keeps the case folded in position and you don't have to worry about it bothering you. BTW THIS CASE FOLDS BACK 100% - Very comfortable. In sum very comfortable to read with the case and very sturdy.

2) The uneven lighting - Amazon's pictures don't do this case justice. The light hits the ENTIRE screen. Yes if you look closely it's brighter in the top right corner then in the bottom left but Amazon's pics make it look the top is lighted while the bottom is dark. There is good light all over the screen. Trust me I'm fussy about these things - the lighting will not bother you, your entire screen will be lighted and it is extremely pleasant to read in the dark.

*Final Thoughts - Great case, good quality, works well, kindle feels very secure and protected (I would feel comfortable slipping this case into my backpack or suitcase and I think it would sustain some mild impact). Lastly hinges are a non-issue, casing of the kindle will not get damaged with normal or even slightly aggressive use. You could damage the kindle by trying to pull the back of the case but you'd have to really force it to cause any sort of damage to your kindle. The hinges work fine and should not be a concern to any case user.

Update 1st December 2010:

Have now been using the case for 3 months. Leather still looks impeccable. Some people expressed concern that the bungee cord might loosen with use. I have not experienced any loosening so far. Quality of the product has proven outstanding. I've occasionally spilled or messed the cover, just a wipe with a damp cloth has cleaned it up, and the case looks like new. Have to admit I enjoy the feel of the case in my hand, there's just something great about taking your kindle to a coffee shop in this case, it just looks and feels so classy. Also with regard to the hinges: I have had no scratches on my kindle or any other issues, so I remain convinced that the hinges are a non issue. Kindle Lighted Leather Cover, Chocolate Brown (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle)

I was hesitant to buy this cover mostly due to the pictures in its listing, which seem to show a light that doesn't even extend to the opposite corner. The fact that I have not been impressed with the Amazon's Kindle covers in the past didn't help. I went ahead and purchased it because the cover I wanted isn't available yet and I don't like to take my Kindle out and about without a cover. Now I am glad that I went ahead and bought it.

PROS:

1. The light is much better than I thought it would be. Using it in a darkened room I found that the light did the job very well. In a pitch black room, it performs even better. While the screen corner opposite the light is a bit dimmer than other areas, there is no problem reading the page at all.

2. The light gets its power from the Kindle itself, through the gold-plated hinges which attach it to the cover, so batteries are a thing of the past. When your Kindle goes to sleep, the light will go out as well. It will also turn off when you slide it back into the case.

3. The cover is slim, well-fitted and very easy to attach and detach using the hinges. The inside has good padding. The leather outer surface has a nice pebbled texture with the exception of a smooth area along the edge of the front. While stiff enough to protect the reader, the cover is slight flexible and the front easily folds behind when reading so you can hold your Kindle with one hand if you like.

4. A great plus is that the cover has an elastic cord that fits into a groove on the front of it. This holds your cover closed (unlike the original Kindle 2 cover that would flop open in your purse & let things slide into it) and easily distinguishes the front from the back--important as many owners of the Kindle 2 cover accidentally opened it from the back, which could cause cracking along the Kindle's spine.

CONS:

I haven't found any, really. The light Is a bit hard (stiff) to pull out of the cover, but then you wouldn't want it to be flopping out when you don't want to use it so that is more of a Pro than a Con.

The one concern I do have is about pulling the light in and out--I wonder if whatever wiring or conductor that is used to get the power from the hinges to the light will eventually break. But that is something to find out down the road. Right now, the more I use this cover, the more I like it. - Kindle 3 Covers - Kindle Accessory - Light - Kindle 3 Case'

Disease Prevention - nutrition, health

`The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth' by Jonny Bowden, Ph.D., C.N.S. is the latest and best of the healthy eating genre, the `best foods' book. Earlier entries in this category are `Superfoods' by Steven Pratt, M.D. and Kathy Matthews and the '12 Best Foods Cookbook' by Dana Jacobi. Bowden's book is different in three directions from these other volumes. First, it contains no recipes. This is little loss, as the second difference, the much longer list of `good' foods more than makes it up. One can quite easily find good recipes for these foods by yourself. For starters, just get Pratt and Jacobi's books! The third difference is that the author has many comments on what is NOT good for you, what you should avoid, as well as the many things you should search out.

The very best news in this book is the revelation (or confirmation, if you are up on your nutritional news flashes) that coffee, wine, butter, eggs, chocolate, cinnamon and watermelon are GOOD FOR YOU! One of the biggest surprises is that most soy products and many milk products (although NOT cheese and yogurt) are NOT good for you. Weak soy products include soy milk and tofu. Fermented soy products such as miso, like so many other fermented food products (yogurt, Kimchee, cheeses and sauerkraut) are still valuable, enhanced by the friendly bacteria responsible for the fermentation.

In spite of all the great news about some guilty pleasures, Bowden gives no relief for the bread and pasta lovers among us. It seems that grains such as wheat and rice, no matter how `unfussed about with', are high in `empty calories'. Processed white grain and their wheats come off as being close to being poisonous! I'm exaggerating, of course, but I sometimes have the feeling that our good Dr. Bowden sometimes overstates his case just a smidge. One example that caught my eye was his opinion on the relative value of the commercially packaged honey (regardless of flowery source) versus raw honey in the comb. While I am not intimate with all the details of honey processing, I have seen some of the steps, and I honestly can't see how a bit of centrifugation and even pasteurization can succeed in turning something good into something bad or at least neutral. On the other hand, Bowden does agree with a general position on food processing that claims that all heat treatment such as pasteurization degrades foods. The entire `Raw' food movement is based on this premise. So, while I am not ready to go out and buy my dehydrator and ship my range off to the metal recycler, I chalk some points up to the `Raw' camp from this very knowledgeably written book. One question I would pose to the Raw camp is how can you deal with especially good foods such as bitter greens which are almost inedible, or at least unpalatable if left uncooked.

One thing I find missing in this and virtually all other books on nutrition is a good practical sense of what in economics is called the marginal value of one food over another. For example, what is the practical difference to us between raw honey and `processed' honey. I will grant the difference, but is that difference worth the effort required to search out a source for raw honey when the `Sue Bee' honey bear is on every supermarket shelf. A more serious thought on the marginal value of foods arises when the author, or any other nutritional author touts a particular nutritional benefit, such as the anti-prostate cancer properties of lycopene found in both tomatoes and watermelon. As I am genetically predisposed to prostate cancer, I am inclined to wolf down as many tomato preparations as I can get my hands on. My problem is that this `hope' is probably pretty slim. Two portions of tomatoes a day for the rest of my life will probably change my chances by about 0.2%. I'm just guessing here, but I have a hunch that if someone ate a perfect diet according to these recommendation, the difference may still be too small to measure. This is why the author's negative comments about grains, milk, and soy are probably more valuable, as they warn us against things which we have for generations believed to be especially good for us.

I found only one weakness in Dr. Bowden's facts, or at least in his completeness. In the article about cinnamon, he does not distinguish between true cinnamon (cinnamonum zelanicum) from Sri Lanka and it's close lookalike, cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) from China and southeast Asia. My hunch is that the good doctor was really talking about cassia. He would have removed a small blemish on his thoroughness if he would have distinguished the two. In general, he would have given a small bone to those of us who dote on such things if he were to have given the scientific names for all plant and animal food sources.

Overall, this is a really good book on nutrition. Not because it's facts are better than those in many other books on nutrition, but rather because the cases for both good and bad foods are so eloquently and readably made. My two favorite facts are on the relative nutritional value of dandelion greens and lamb. Now dandelion should be no surprise, ALL green leaved vegetables are good for you. It's just that dandelion, like so many greens, is cheap. The good news about lamb, my very favorite meat, is based on the fact that sheep are grass fed, unlike cattle and pigs. And, if there is any one lesson we get from this book, our food sources, like us, are what they eat, and green grass is much better for Bo Peep's charges than corn or wheat.

This is an excellent book of useable information on nutrition! I hope the author gets together with a strong culinary collaborator and turns all this information into a cookbook. The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth: The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Eat and Why

This is a beautifully presented book, a pleasure to look at with its crisp photos and clean layout. The content more than matches the promise of the aesthetics - it's packed with all sorts of gems, including:

* "Ask the Expert" top 10 food lists from various authorities who are either health writers or practitioners

* starred entries within the list of 150 foods, designating the cream of the crop

* a glossary that helpfully defines various nutrients, hormones, diseases, etc

* mini-lessons on such hot topics as the glycemic index, differentiation of fats, and eating organically

* interpretation of foods from homeopathic, Ayurvedic, and yoga nutritional therapy perspectives

The 150 selected foods are organised into chapters by food genres: Vegetables; Grains; Beans & Legumes; Fruits; Nuts, Seeds, and Nut Butters; Soy Foods; Dairy; Meat, Poultry, and Eggs; Fish and Seafood; Specialty Foods; Beverages; Herb, Spices, and Condiments; Oils; and Sweeteners. Each food listing carries an explanation of which nutrients makes it a winner, why these nutrients are so good for us, who in particular would benefit, and who's at risk and so should avoid that particular food. Jonny even frequently provides tips on selection and preparation.

So much of the information is fascinating, and often surprising. Discover that cashews are a member of the poison ivy family, while eggplant is actually a berry and falls into the nightshade grouping. Learn that raspberries are calorie for calorie one of the most high-fibre foods on the planet, and that spinach and tomatoes are great for your eyes thanks to the lutein in them. Determine how to convert unsalted butter to ghee, which is one of the finest cooking oils available and provides an important rejuvenating tonic for the mind, brain, and nervous system. And realize that country of origin of cheese affects its cancer-fighting, fat-reducing properties.

Although very entertaining, this book is still solidly backed by the science. The research presented is impressive, but Jonny is adept at making complex things simple. As a result, the book is an easy and engaging read - so much so that it feels a little like enjoying a conversation with Jonny over a cup of coffee (or, after reading this book, a glass of noni juice!).

If you want to understand what you're eating, its properties and how it affects your body, this well-considered book is a must-have. As a health and fitness trainer, I'm enthusiastically recommending this book to all my clients so they can achieve fat loss, health, and performance goals through informed dietary choices. - Healthful Eating - Health - Food - Nutrition'

4x Optical Zoom - 4x optical zoom, canon camera

I bought this camera because I wanted a simple little one to carry around all the time instead of my big DSLR. I wasn't expecting much for this price and, effectively, the camera is plain and simple with only the standard tools: adjustable ISO 100-1600, autofocus, red-eye reduction and decent video capabilities. It has a simple 3.3x optical zoom and a digital zoom up to 13x. The menus are simple and fairly intuitive. The camera is a bit sluggish even with a class 10 card. The pictures are just OK, do not expect glorious definition or colour response. The fact that the camera uses two AA batteries is advantageous, both if you want to use rechargeable ones or you find yourself somewhere in the world where you would otherwise not find the particular replacement for special batteries.

Having said this you may wonder if it is worth. For this price, in my opinion, yes. Do not ask this little camera for things it was not designed to achieve. If you want a humble little camera to carry with you all the time or to give your children/grandparents as a present, take it. Do you want gorgeous pictures and advanced menus? Then this camera is not for you. Canon Powershot A800 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom (Silver) - Canon Digital Camera - Canon Camera - Powershot - 4x Optical Zoom'

Address Labels

I use these labels with "Poly Bubble" mailers to ship items. Twice in the last couple of months I've had items returned because the labels came off at some point during shipping. The mailers I'm using are brand new and have a smooth surface; there is no reason an address label shouldn't stick to them. It's possible these labels work better with paper-based envelopes and mailers, but I no longer trust these labels and am in the process of looking for an alternative. Avery Easy Peel Address Labels, Inkjet Printers, White, 1 x 2.62 Inch, Box of 750 (08160)

These are really easy to use with Microsoft Word. You just type in your address and select the label code (on the package) and you can print out a whole sheet of labels! They are good quality, and don't rip when you peel them off the sheet (like cheaper brands.) Also they've removed the piece between the labels on the sheet so they are really easy to peel. This is really convenient if you're going to be peeling of several at a time.

I had tried a few labels before, and they always jammed or came out a little askew, this printed quickly, smoothly no jamming and alignment was fine - at least on my Epson Artisan 835 (all in one inkjet)'

Multifunction Printer - wireless, scanner

I calculated it out, and it was actually cheaper to buy this NEW PRINTER than buy overpriced ink cartridges for my noisy ancient HP printer. (I still can't get over that!)

Pros:

1. Cost: great for price, especially considering it's functionality

2. Scanner: pretty good quality considering, but again, I'm used to my fossil of a printer... obviously wouldn't be the best for applications requiring intense scanning capabilities, but for everyday use, awesome

3. WIRELESS: Sorry, but this concept to me is still astounding. "you mean, I can have my printer on the other side of the house and still print things from it?!" Much better than keeping the printer within two feet of the computer, and it reduces the number of unmanageable tangled cords by at least one [no usb connection needed] (two [power cord] if you located the printer away from the computer)

4. Fax, though I don't use it (or have a main line for that matter) is a nice additional feature. Maybe once they (maybe they already have) figure out a way to attach cell phones or go over the internet, this will be more useful for me. Still, good feature for others needing this, as fax is still a pretty common form of communication and document sharing.

5. Separate color ink cartridges: FINALLY! I hate having my HP color cartridge run out of ONE color and then having to figure out how to use it still; there's still two colors of ink in there... but they're pretty useless for full color images (and you better hope you don't forget which one of the three it is). Now they're all separate and easy to get to (front flap folds down) and change.

6. Cheap off-brand ink cartridges: Unlike other companies (cough cough) there seems to be an abundance of off brand ink cartridges for Brother printers... which is good! Saves you a LOT of money, as long as you're willing to put up with a dud every once in a while (for the money... about $1 per cartridge... it's totally worth it). Additionally, the pages per cartridge for this printer is much higher than HP's 21 and 22 cartridges- making the price per cartridge even more enticing.

7. LCD screen: it's in color! I didn't realize when I bought- nice surprise.

Cons:

1. hidden paper tray: I was initially very excited about this feature... so tired of papers sticking out of the printer and getting bent, folded, dusty, dirty, etc. However, it doesn't hold as many sheets as I would have hoped and it gets jammed a lot. I've used the printer for three days now, and of all three times, it got jammed twice. Hey, maybe it's just user error, but I re-read the directions, just to make sure I wasn't being an idiot.

2. Wireless: Wait, yes, I did have this listed as a pro above, but I at least HAVE to mention that obviously if your internet/router/service goes down, you literally can't print unless you manually haul the thing back over to your computer and dig out a usb cord. I know, not the end of the world, but still, a bit frustrating.

3. EVERY time it gets manually connected to a wireless network, it prints out this sheet saying so... completely stupid and not very sustainable.. plus it just wasted some of your ink and a page of paper. Can you stop this? I'm sure. However, it's still frustrating... especially for a sheet of paper you're just going to throw out anyways(or cut up and recycle as notes!).

4. Footprint: I was hoping it would be a bit smaller (I realize the dimensions are listed). It's still massive on my bookshelf.

5. Noise: I was hoping for a decently quiet machine... while this is quieter than my last printer, it's still pretty loud.

Overall: Good product for the price- The pros outweigh the cons, and seriously, some of those cons aren't even much of an issue. For someone who's just looking for something that prints and not necessarily too concerned about professional prints and a little noise (aka. students, home office?, etc.), this is a good deal. Again, especially for the price. Compared to others in it's $$ range, this probably has the most bang for the buck (gadget wise and cheap ink.. if nothing else) Brother Black Compact Inkjet All-in-One with Fax and Wireless Networking (MFCJ265W)

I recently purchased a Brother MFC-J265W printer to replace my MFC-210C that stopped printing in black after four years of great service. The J265W was an outstanding value on Amazon. I have a small home office for my artwork business and this MFC does everything I ask of it quietly and efficiently. Some of the comments I read about this printer said that it did fair color printing of photos. I have printed photos and several artworks using quality photo paper and the results are superb. It scans photos and artwork better than many professional scanners. The ability to make quick easy in-house copies is also a big plus. I have not used the fax or the card reader function as yet.

A marvelous feature of Brother MFC is the inexpensive ink cartridges, the name brand cartridges are cheaper that HP, Canon, Lexmark, and others. Amazon has great non-OEM Brother cartridges at veru low prices that work flawlessly with this printer.

I highly recommend this very quiet and dependable little workhorse fax, copier, scanner, printer. - Scanner - Inkjet Printer - Wireless - All-in-one'

Memory Card Case - sd card, sd case

I use sd cards with my marine electronics and digital camera. These cases are a must for keeping the sd card safe from any damage. Since I use the smaller sd cards for my marine electronics I have to purchase the sd cards with no case, leaving me with a need for for the case. Buying 100 cases at a time saves me time and money. The cards came well packaged with some neat styrofoam product that I use for keeping the cases in order and handy for use. I would recomend the cases to anyone who uses a lot of small (128 mb) capacity sd cards. Plastic Secure Digital Memory Card Case & Holder for SD (3 Case Pack no memory cards included)

They are difficult to open and bulky and cheap plastic. I assumed it would be like the ones that came with the SD cards when I bought them, but these are really junky. All of the other cases that I have had are far superior to these. I would have gladly paid more for a superior product if I had any idea these were going to be so trashy. I could have done better at a dollar store. This is not the same case that was in the picture!

The SD card cases are a little more bulky than advertised, or maybe i just missed something, i dont know. All i know is that the sd card cases that come with sd card you buy are not the kind of cases you will get from here. Add about 2mm on each side of the card and that is more what the case is like. Also, even though it is advertised for very cheap, shipping and handling makes up for more than the original price, so my order (i ordered 2) came out to about [...] which is the same as most other sellers. I'm a little disappointed with that, but i hope that this review helps people find what they are looking for

More than one seller sells this exact item so this is for the item I received from seller named Chi Tek. Amazon's system appears to rotate who they display as the featured seller each time you click through to the item. I was unforunate enough to purchase from Chi Tek who did not send me what was pictured. I bought these to hold the Kodak 2GB Premium Secure Digital Card (KPSD2GBSCC), which is very small. To see what I got, see my 2 images with the red back grounds. The card was small, and fit loosely, but I was willing to forget that. Problem is, the only thing the item I received has in common with the item pictured is that it is in fact a memory card holder. NOTHING else about what I received is what is shown in the image. What I received simply is NOT what is pictured. The worst part is this item is nearly impossible to open once closed. It hurt my fingers to open it, you have to actually bend the entire piece to get it to pop open, and when it finally opened the memory card I placed inside went flying across the room. What protection does it give if opening it means it goes flying onto the floor?! None. I would return it but for $2.98 it's just not worth the shipping it costs to send it back. I dumped them in my plastic recylce bin. Pure garbage. Pure crap.

I added an image at the top view section of one of the cases that I received, 17 February 2011.

I was having a hard time opening them until I used my lighted magnifier and then I saw the "PUSH".

After trying it a couple of time, it is easy, just different.

The cases are indeed stiff plastic, but they are the same dimensions as my other cases except about 1/2 as thick. Now two fit where I had one before, to me a plus.

I now have the cases (6) that I need for present and future purchases of SD cards. It seems that they no longer come with cases.

This is what is in the Picture

arived quickily and in good shap

easy to open

I only need 2, but for the price it is cheaper to buy 3 and not use one of them then to buy them one at a time

good deal

Purched from eTECH an amazon.com seller

We needed something to protect our SD cards and this fit the bill nicely. The cards fit in and the case opens and closes nicely. Some may say they are not as compact as they would like but I like the fact that there is some protection surrounding the card. But to each their own. The company was quick to deliver as well. Kudos!

Just what I needed to store my extra Duo Pro Card Memory Sticks and Holders in. These things come in handy and keep the cards from getting damaged. I am glad I bought them and would not hesitate to buy them again when I need more.

This is 3 separate cases. It is not one case holding 3 cards, which is what I would prefer. And it is twice as big as shown in the picture: it is 2 x 1.5 inches, needlessly big for an SDHC card. It is very lightweight, but not as good as it could be.

The shipper was good.

These cases are very cheap quality, the catches that keep them closed quit working after a few times, then they don't stay closed, these cases are also alot bigger than the ones you get when you buy a new memory card, so overall very cheap, I wouldn't buy them again, - Sd Card - Sd Case - Card Case - Memory Card Case'

Inkjet Cartridges - canon printer, inkjet cartridges

The regular 211 contains 9ml of ink. The 211XL contains 13ml of ink. That's 44% more ink for very little extra money. It's also less times you'll find yourself running low on ink and have to reorder and swap out cartridges. Canon CL-211 XL Cartridge (Color)

I have a Canon MP240 that this went into. The XL carts are more than 2x the ink for a 40% increase in cost. They are the best value of all my color printers refills. This cartridge lasted over 2x the previous normal size one.

We use this ink cartridge for our printer and it seems to last a looooong time.... Betweeen me printing stuff for work (I am a toddler teacher) and my husband printing forms to become a citizen, we print a lot! This is one of the best cartridges we have ever used...

My review is the same as the black cartridge. It's way too expensive for what it is, but that seems to be the 21st century trade off for a good but inexpensive printer. I like my Canon MX340... great printer and inexpensive. BUT if I did high volume printing I'd definately go with a much more expensive printer that advertised low cartridge prices. I only paid 80 dollars for the printer, which is excellent, but about every 3 months I pay another 60 dollars to replace the ink. And I don't do THAT much printing.

Received the ink cartridge and installed as described with not problems, worked right out of the package. I was concerned if this was cost effective over going to the local store and I will continue to use Amazon for my printer needs as long as it preforms as it did this time.

This cartridge printed fewer color pages than the starter cartridge that came with the printer. I have since replaced the cartridge from Amazon with a cartridge purchased at a large retail chain and I have received much more use from it. I believe the catridge that I received from Amazon was either old or defective. I would gusstimate that it printed 5 or fewer full color pages worth of material.

Being a prime member allows fast shipping. I had a project to finish and ran out of ink. Ordering from Amazon.com allowed the ink cartridge to arrive in two days. The cartridge is working perfectly and the price was cheaper than Wal-mart. I will always get my cartridges from Amazon.com

I am a semi professional photographer, and I constantly go through Ink. I had never ordered a printer cartridge online before, and now I will never purchase one in the stores. The delivery was timely and the product is sharp and reliable.

I purchased the Canon CL-211 XL Cartridge for my MP480 after being burned by refurbished cartridges. I prefer the performance of the Canon units and I am willing to pay extra to avoid the headaches. I may try refurbished again some day, but only because Amazon backs up what is sold on their excellent site. In the meantime, I appreciate the value, rapid delivery and support Amazon has always provided me.

I was looking for a color printer and scanner and I really picked a good one. Easy to set up prints great scans great looks great and the ink does Not cost a small fortune. Iphone 4 Cases - iphone4 case, iphone 4 case

You can see my other reviews to know that I buy A LOT of cases - it has became an addiction of sorts. With that said, I have often found Otterbox products to be the best of the best. (See my 5 star Otterbox iPhone 4 Defender review for proof!)

I received this item last Monday and I was anxiously awaiting installing it and giving it a go. Unfortunately my excitement quickly subsided. I hate to sound negative but this case leaves a lot to be desired. Below I will give you my unbiased thoughts on the case and its pros/cons.

Pros:

Much thinner than the Defender case

All ports are easily accessible

Lightweight

Cons:

The screen protector that it comes with is very sub-par, I've purchased several screen protectors in the past for both my iPhone(s) and other models, the one that came with the Otterbox ranks near (or at) the bottom of the list as far as quality build and ease of installation in avoiding air bubbles etc.

The case doesn't quite fit "right" sometimes the silicon case will come loose from around the lip of the phone and it will in turn cause the polycarbonate shell to shift and not only fit awkward but look horrible as well.

The cover for the audio out jack (headphone jack etc.) should have been designed better. It often protrudes from the case and just looks awkward.

In conclusion I would state that though the case isn't the worse (and 2 stars may be harsh) due to the price and quality expected from Otterbox it came up well short of expectations.

I will try to post pictures later showing this case next to a bare iPhone 4 and also next to the Defender case. OtterBox Commuter Series Hybrid Case for AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4 (Pink/White)

Hi, I just got this case yesterday. It's the third one I've tried with my iPhone 4. Otterbox makes fine cases so I expected something nice and was not disappointed. I also had the Commuter and Defender cases for my iPhone 3Gs.

Here are some notes for you:

- The case provides the best protection of the three I've tried. The Apple bumper case is nice but the open back leaves a lot of glass exposed. This one gets the job done while not being too bulky.

- Compared to the iPhone 3Gs Commuter case this one exposes more of the hard plastic surface and less of the rubber. The plastic is textured nicely so gripping is still secure. In all fairness I think I do prefer the design of the 3G/3Gs version.

- The phone will connect (Yeah!) to my Magellan car mount and B&W speakers with this case. It would not connect with the thicker Apple bumper case. I'm also able to get other cables to connect to it that would not connect with the bumper case. The opening for the thirty pin connector is larger on the Otterbox case.

- Putting the screen protector on can be frustrating but I was mostly successful this time. Dust must be avoided at all cost while applying it. Hey Intel, can I use your clean room for a few minutes?

It's a good compromise between protection and bulk. If you had the 3G version you might be a little disappointed because the fit on this one doesn't seem quite as good.

Update (9/2/2010): The reviewer(s) that said the case can be uncomfortable on your ear while making calls was right. If you make a lot of calls this could be rather annoying. I'll post a picture or two of the offending sharp edge. I filed the edge on mine with my Leatherman to smooth it out. That helped a lot.

Regards,

John

This case exceeded my expectations i had after reading some of these peoples reviews. First of all, the fit is perfect. i dont know if maybe some of these people didnt put it on right (it takes a while to get it right) but mine fits snugly.second, It does not feel cheap. The plastic is not very thick but it doesnt need to be thick to protect, it is only there to hold the shape of the silicone. It is the perfect balance of protection and bulkiness.. I had a defender series for my 3gs and that thing felt like a brick.. this one feels just right, not to mention its a lot cheaper than the defender. If youre gonna be rock climbing or working at construction site, then theres no reson why you would want the defender over this case. The screen protector is pretty cool, i dont really see the point of it because the case sits in such way that your screen will not get scratched. i still put mine on and cant even tell its there.. I would highly recomend this case, and no i dont work for otterbox, im just a regular guy that really liked this product and i dont think the reviews on it are very accurate. Thanks!

Sadly, this is the first review I've written, because I've had such a bad experience with this case. I'm a big OtterBox fan, I had a Commuter on my previous 3GS, and a Defender for my old 3G which is now on my wife's S. Both of those cases are great and I don't have a negative thing to say about them.

I had such a good experience with the previous version of the Commuter, that I got one for my Iphone 4. Unlike other reviewers, I think the screen protector is great, the only reason I gave this case 2 stars instead of one. I've had several screen protectors in the past, and they've mostly been all the same. The OtterBox protector seems to be of higher quality, and its the first case I've gotten on with absolutely no bubbles. Also, while trying to get the bubbles out on other protectors, you end up scratching the protector with the credit card. OtterBox solved that issue by putting an extra layer on the protector, and once you have worked all the bubbles out, you peel off the outer layer, leaving a pristine screen protector. I honestly can't tell that it's even there. Unfortunately that's where the good stops.

The silicone on the Iphone 4 commuter seems cheap, and doesn't fit the phone as well as in previous versions. The corners and parts that aren't covered by the outer shell constantly move and don't hug the phone as tightly as on the last version.

The hard protective shell is a complete failure on my case. When you initially take it out of the case, you can tell that the plastic is of cheaper construction than previous models. It is significantly thinner than the last, which is nice from a size perspective, but it just feels cheap in your hands, like it is going to break at the slightest stress. Also, the worst thing about mine is that it just doesn't fit the phone. It is too big for the phone, leaving gaps around all 4 sides. On 2 sides, the gap is small enough as to be almost not noticeable, but on 2 it's very obvious, and its so far from the silicone that the whole case flexes in your hand. On my particular case, it's obvious that the protective shell was machined too large for the silicone. No matter how much massaging and fiddling you so with the case, it won't fit the phone properly. As I've said before, on my 3GS, once you snap the outer case on, it's bombproof.

I bought the case direct from OtterBox the day it became available, and Amazon's price is now significantly cheaper. Still, this case isn't worth the cheaper price.

-Update

Otterbox customer service replied, and are sending out a replacement case. Their customer service was very friendly. I'll write another update when the new case arrives.

-Update 2

Customer service promptly sent out a replacement case. The 2nd case definitely fits better, it fits the phone correctly, but there isn't the tight, solid feel of previous versions. As other reviews have noted, the outer case can be uncomfortable against your ear. There are better cases out there for less money, for example, the 'free' case I got through Apple. I got a Griffin Reveal Etch through the free case program, which doesn't offer as much protection, but the case feels solid and fits the phone much tighter than the Otterbox. I still think they make great products, but this one was a failure. At least they've dropped the price since I ordered mine. - Iphone4 Case - Iphone 4 Case - Case - Otterbox'

Eos 60d - eos 60d, canon

The camera itself was a given. What was nice about this kit is everything that it came with for near the same price as the Camera & Lenses alone. All the little things. Especially the cables & memory card.

The camera itself is an upgrade from an old Canon EOS A2E. I already have EF lenses. All the lenses work great. The options on the camera are near endless. As a professionally trained photographer this camera looks to be an excellent tool. Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens & EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens + 16GB Deluxe Accessory Kit

Great Customer service From This Company and Great bundle (great startup package- for anyone that wants to know the sd card is a class 6)... Came packaged very well... I would recommend this package to anyone

The camera and package was the price the camera was at Best Buy for just the body. The camera and package came quickly and had great items! We love using the camera and feel like we got a great deal!

I bought this camera for some upcoming photography classes. I was advised to go with a smaller camera, but have had my heart set on this one since I started seeing it in different photography magazines.

I got to really test it out at the Detroit Auto Show on January 22, 2011 and my photos turned out really crisp and clear. The tilt LCD screen really helped out too. I have a really awesome photo of the injection stacks on top of a racing engine that I had to use the tilt screen for. Talk about an awesome feature.

The entire package is really great and has almost everything I need to start my classes. I've even recommended a similar package to a classmate!

I love it and look forward to learning more about it!

The Camera and lenses are great and working wonderfully. The vendor stated the purchase would ship by a certain date and two days past the stated ship date it had not shipped. I had to call the vendor and they apologized and expedited the shipment so it still arrived on the same day as stated. I did not have to pay for the expedited shipment. Still I should not have had to call them to find out why it had not shipped on time. I wonder how long it would have really taken had I not called. I have been taking some great amazing photos with the camera. Love it.

I bought this camera for my son who is a Communications Graduate Major. His professors said for a middle professional camera it shoots video better than some 15000.00 camera's they have at their college. My son has shot video for projects at school and it is safe to say he loves this camera. While this review is not a technical one it is nice to know all the Profs have this camera too. - Canon - Eos 60d'

Lithium-ion - compact, makita impact driver

This is a great tool, small, lightweight with a lot of power. I own a Makita 18 volt LXT and that is a great drill, but for installing blinds and other items this is awesome, only weighs 2 lbs. and comes with a holster. I work in remodeling daily and this is my new best friend to work with, a great investment Makita TD090DW 10.8-Volt Ultra Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver Kit

I am really impressed with this cordless driver. For as small as it is, it really has a lot of torque. I bought another brand that practically had no torque at all. I sent it back and bought this one. You get what you pay for. The work light really lights up the area where you are using the driver. If I had a complaint at all of this tool, it would be it is hard to drive a screw at a real slow speed, for instance, when you are just starting the screw. The trigger is real sensitive. You have to use small movements of the trigger. As I use the tool more, I am getting better at selecting the proper speed for driving screws, etc. I like the compact size of the driver also.

I own the 18 volt tools from makita and love them then this little powerful guy came around and had to have one powerful for the size and nice to hold all day in a service truck and crain thanks makita

This is a great product with lots of power in a compact size, fast recharging batteries that have a long use time. I am a technician for Audi and I use this thing all day every day and have had it for about a year now, saddly I have dropped it on more than on occasion but the durabulity of this tool is amazing and still functions flawlessly. It is small enough to fit in tight spots and powerful enough to tackle any job I throw at it. I highly recommend this, if you are in the market for a 1/4 inch hex bit impact driver that you will not be disappointed with.

This "little" driver was the best tool purchase I have made in years. Not only is it everything the description says it is you will be blown away how long and hard it will work on a charge. I was able to drive over 300 3" 305 stainless screws with one battery.

I dont start a project without it in my hand. Well worth the money.

This got good reviews n my internet search and so far it's lived up to them. I'm new to home improvement, but love it so far. Directions easy to understand, comfortable grip and lightweight. I'd recommend to anyone

I have not used this on a big job yet, but it works fine for messing around in the shop. I got it for smaller size and weight than my 18V Makita Impact Driver. I loved 18V for its power and size but not so much for its weight. I was hoping to save on weight and maybe on size (the 10.8V is somewhat skinnier).

The 10.8V seems to have enough power for 3" screws (my usual max, 2" are much more common) but I don't think it will last as long on a charge. This should not be an issue because I will always have my 18V around for backup and I have multiple batts for it. For working around a shop bench, either unit should be fine. For working around the top of a ladder or in the rafters, the 10.8V will probably be my choice. For working in the field, away from chargers for a day, I will go with the 18V and a backup batt. Or the 10.8V and maybe 2 or 3 backup batts. Don't know yet.

By the way, I really like the $20 hex shank twist drill kit that Ryobi (at Home Depot) makes. They are not great bits but they are really convenient if you don't want to carry an extra drill around. And also, BTW, Sears sells high quality hex shank twist replacement bits and in larger sizes, up to 1/2".

Aloha, Shell

Just wanted to add that this thing is also a drill, although i have not tried it on metal yet ,,the makita td090dw putts and end to my black and decker ,, ,secondly i would not consider this a screw driver it is way to strong ,it can easy strip out plastic and other soft materials, even though it comes with a Phillips headed double sided bit, It works best with a set of 3/8 sockets, works great on your car with those bolts that connected to aluminum, large bolts connected to steel not so good , 10 11 12 13 mm great,, 14mm and up the makita will warm your ears up from the impact mechanism and possibly chime it off ,, Tightening strength I am estimating about 10 to 14 ft lbs or 200 to 300 inch lbs after the fist second the impact mechanism comes on,, after that the impact will take it down even further depending on what size the bolt is , so the makita td090dw does not have 850 inch lbs or 70 foot lbs of torque it creates torque through the impact maybe you could reach this by holding it there for a few seconds and letting the impact do the work "tried it seems to stop moving"if you want more raw torque get the 18v,, after a several recharges she will get even stronger ,in short it replaces that 14 and 18 volt black and decker with ease but your going to need to get the screw driver

Very powerful for it's size. The batteries don't last quite as long as I thought they would but I've been putting a lot of load on them. All toghther this is much lighter and more powerful than any cordless drill I've ever owned. - Makita - Compact - Impact Drivers - Makita Impact Driver'
