Hp Pavilion - laptop, hp pavilion
This is an extremely nice laptop, easy 5 stars. I needed a desktop replacement since my desktop was completely destroyed due to a electrical fire, this is why I chose a i5 over a i3 CPU and 14inch over 13.3 inch. I immediately installed an Intel SSD 80GB in this HP which I recovered from my desktop, so boot-ups and loading apps is fast!. I'm a big fan of SSDs and highly recommend for speed and low power. Over all I'm extremely pleased with this notebook, and would highly recommend if you need something fast and close to desktop power. I purchased this at a local store because I had a $400 in-store credit. Buying on Amazon is a no-brainer which saves approx $100-150.
Pros
-Doesn't look cheap, has extremely nice aluminum/silver surface to give professional look. Easily looks like $800-1000+ laptop, which was important for me.
-i5 with Dual-Core and HT = 4 CPUS showing in task manager, WEI for CPU 6.9!!! My desktop which had an Intel Q9650 pure Quad Core was 7.3 WEI. I did not expect this mobile i5 CPU score to be this close to my Quad core desktop.
-Good balance of battery vs power, seems to be able to get 5-6 hours with normal use. The SSD does improve battery life. Choose an i3 if you want more mobility/battery life or an i7/dedicated video if you want more power.
-Win 7 Pro - Will be using this as primary comp for awhile so needed Pro. If you don't need Pro you should be able to save approx $100 on model with similar/same specs but running Windows 7 Home.
-Intel 80GB SSD scores hard-disk WEI 7.5! on this HP, on previous desktop same SSD was 7.2.
-14 inch screen is good size, did not want anything bigger which takes away professional/sleek look. 13.3 screen size would also be perfect, especially if siding on the mobility side.
-Video/HDMI is perfect for my needs, not a gamer but HD videos plays perfect via HDMI on HDTV.
-eSata was a must for fast data transfers.
-Great keyboard! Good size and natural feel. I'm not using track-pad much, I rather use a mouse.
-Finger print login works easy and is nice:)
-Card reader for camera works well, originally didn't see it but eventually found in front when I really needed
-Extra super quiet! Again, I'm sure this is in part due to SSD I'm using, but fans are not noisy.
Cons are all expected and doesn't subtract from 5 stars.
-No OS or Recovery CDs which made it difficult to migrate to SSD, eventually had to use Intel's SSD migration tools. I knew up front this wouldn't have recovery CDs.
-Lots of Bloatware which I needed to remove since I was moving to a 80GB SSD. HP does have an option(not well known) in BIOS F11 to Recover just OS and Drivers. I went thru this process before cloning the SSD and Win7 installed clean with the exception of a few HP tools which I kept. I just wish this was the default config. Clean install only was approx 29GB out of the 80GB SSD, leaving me with more than enough space for all future apps.
-Wish it had 1 more USB port - Has 3 USB ports and 1 is shared with eSATA which I'm using frequently. Oh well, I see a $10-20 USB Hub in my future.
-I had to pay HP $15 for shipment of Recovery CDs for peace of mind since I want to use hard-drive that came with HP for data storage. I probably really didn't need the CDs since the Wndows7 Image Backup/Recovery tested ok for me. But its good to be extra safe here since I'm deleting the HP Recovery partition on original disk-drive. HP Pavilion dm4-1277sb 14-Inch Notebook PC - Silver
This review is for HP Pavilion dm4-1277sb 14-Inch Notebook PC - Silver.
Just received this laptop last week. It's very nice and light. Setting it up was easy, got it up and running, surfing the web in no time. Speakers and sound are superb, no problem at all. The display is nice, but color seems a bit washed out, even after playing with the appropriate settings. The glossy screen is also a bit distracting.
The fingerprint recognition application is very good, allowing you to login to the system without having to type your password. Also, it can be used with your favorite browser for quick and easy log in to web sites. However, I have had problems using it with Firefox, as it crashes the browser when logging in to Gmail and Netflix.
Battery life seems to be on the short side of 6 hours. The indicator in the system tray doesn't accurately report how much time you have left on the battery. For example, after a full charge, it indicates less than 2 hours left on the battery. Percentage is accurate (eg, 90%), though.
The mousepad is nice. I'd rather have the buttons separate from the pad, but that's just personal preference. The Intel video card does a good job for web video, I won't use it for heavy duty games.
It comes with "QuickWeb" which allows you to do basic web browsing without having to start Windows 7. I disabled this feature, though, because the functionality is kind of limited and Windows does start relatively quickly. Plenty of other bloatware is included.
"Recovery Manager" needed 8 DVDs! It helps restore the system in case of a disaster, you can only create them yourself once, but DVDs can be obtained from HP as well ($17).
Very good laptop for school and office work (email, word processing, web browsing) with good components at a fair price. I wish it came with a better display (higher res, fuller colors).
the computer is pretty good. nice and fast.
I just dont understand why amazon and hp say the battery life is of 6 hours and really doesnt last more than 2 hours in super saver mode. im totally dissapointed by that, I know now that other customers had the same problem with this computer, should have read the reviews before buying.
if you want a long lasting battery do NOT buy this product!!!
Recall expanded: HP notebook computer battery--fire hazard
May 31, 2011 12:35 PM
Hewlett-Packard has recalled about 162,600 additional lithium-ion batteries because they can overheat and rupture, posing a fire and burn hazard. The rechargeable batteries are used in HP and Compaq notebook computers.
The first recall was May 2009, and included 54,000 batteries. The second recall was in May 2010 involving 70,000 batteries. Since the 2010 recall expansion, HP has received 40 more reports of batteries overheating and rupturing, causing seven burn injuries, one incident of smoke inhalation, and 36 cases of property damage. The computers were sold for a full year starting in July 2007 at stores nationwide, as well as online at hp.com and hpshopping.com for $500 to $3,000. The battery packs were also sold separately for $100 to $160.
Affected notebooks include:
HP Pavilion
Compaq Presario
HP
HP Compaq
For a full list of model numbers and barcodes see the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice. The model number is on the bottom of the notebook, at the top of the service label.
If you own a laptop with a recalled battery, remove the battery and contact HP. If you previously checked the battery and were told it was not included in the original recall, check again. Recalled batteries will be replaced for free. In the meantime, use an AC adapter to power the laptop. For more information, visit the HP battery replacement program or call 888-202-4320 .

Spare Battery
This battery is outstanding and FWIW I feel it is doing a better job the the original. While this is a Motorola battery and has the same part number as the original, maybe they improved it because I get a couple of days between charging and I USE the phone! Ankle Weights
These ankle weights work very well; the construction is good and they hold up nicely. Being able to work your way up one pound at a time is great. But they are truly painful. I'm a small woman with small ankles, but that shouldn't matter. Regardless of how big your ankles are, the weights just gouge into the bones as you walk. I've doubled over wash cloths and pinned them around my ankles, and they still kill me. I have permanent bruises at my ankle bones. The manufacturer really needs to attach some kind of heavy-duty padding to the back to prevent this from happening. I wear them, but I don't think I'd buy them again. GoFit 10-Pound Adjustable Ankle Weights
I bought these to put weight on a baby stroller so that my infant who was starting to walk and wanted to push her stroller wouldn't fall. It did the job, but I think it would've been better with 5 lb weights. These are very heavy. You can take out some of the weight which is good, but with all of them in, it's very heavy.'

100 Carbonless Duplicate Sets
The labnotebook that folds from the side rather than the top is more useful. the carbon paper tears out easily. but not the original. Price is not that great, actually if you remove shipping it would cost 15, when it normally cost 19.99, shipping makes it 20. not worth it unless you really like using a binding from the top, even so, 100 pages plus carbon makes the labnotebook extremely huge and hard to use. Student Lab Notebook: 100 Top Bound duplicate pages
Good book for labs. Comes with a thick card stock-like page to insert between sets to prevent bleed through. Carbon pages are perforated making a clean and easy tear out for turning in pages to instructor.
This notebook is great for Chemistry classes - the carbon copies are great, especially if you start losing pages. The only downside to this book is that, as one user noted, the pages are perforated...which makes tearing out the pages for the professor to grade a pain... otherwise...it's a great book with its own divider that, ironically, can be torn out due to perforated edges...
Very useful. Be sure to put a periodic table under the copy paper or you will trasfer all your writing to ALL the pages. You dont have to press down hard and its a very organized piece of work. Problems: Its a flipbook (you lift the cover upwards, instead of opening it from the right) meaning it flips down constantly, losing your place. Its also hard to write on the inside cover and you cant fill in information thats on the top of each paper because of limited room. Overall, its fine and I would buy it again in a heartbeat.'

Black Metal Band - skagen watch, black metal band
Being somewhat picky and not much of a watch enthusiast, I did a bit of research to try and find a nice looking watch that ultimately didn't at all feel like I was wearing a watch. I visited several Jewelers as well as a handful of watch shops when I stumbled accross this Skagen watch. I was immediately struck by the beauty of the black titanium as well as how thin the watch and band were.
A little more research lead to my recent purchase of this beautiful watch. So far I'm in love with it! The luminous hands and numbers leave a little to be desired as they need to be exposed to a bright light before being visible in the dark (and if you have a bright light, why would you even need luminous hands?). Regardless, the bright numbers and hands are fairly easy to see even in low light due to the way they catch the available light on their own.
This watch is sleek, light weight and comfortable. I'm a very satisfied customer. Skagen Men's 233XLTMB Titanium Watch
This is a very nice watch; and when you consider the fact that it is under a hundred dollars, it's a bargain too. The watch is very light and thin, however, the face is large enough to read easily. The band is capable of fine adjustment, which is easily done by the wearer, allowing the watch to fit any wrist perfectly. Further, the band, although made of metal, is very comfortable and doesn't pull wrist and arm hair. It is a classy looking watch that fits well with casual or dress attire.
The watch is extremely thin and sleek. I have gotten quite a few compliments on this watch, and I think it goes well with about anything. The clasp is very effective as it has a hook, a clasp, and a safety clasp to keep it attached. The clasp is also very simple to use once you figure it out (which took me about three minutes). The numbers are large and easy to read (which wasn't really a concern for me but it is still nice). Overall I am extremely pleased with this very light and inexpensive yet good looking watch.
Update: While this is an excellent watch, it is not very durable. I only wear it for the daily activities of a college student and am pretty careful not to bang it on things. However, about 6 months after I bought it I started noticing some minor scratches, and within a year it had a major crack in the face crystal. Also after about a year I had problems with the band, which eventually broke apart. I still love this watch and I would like to buy another one, but the lack of durability makes it a bad value for me.
This is the 2nd Skagen watch that I've owned. The first one suffered from the same clasp problems that others have described and it often popped open on me. I thought I just had some bad luck with that one. As it was getting old and beat up, I bought this one. Almost the same watch except this one was black instead of silver like my old one was.
I've only had this watch for a couple of weeks, but I cannot wear it any longer. I like the slim lightweight watches that they produce, but the clasps are just horrible. The clasp on this one is stainless steel while the band in titanium. It is painted black in order to match the band.
Within just a few days of starting to wear this watch, I developed a very itchy rash on my wrist right where the clasp touches it. I didn't make the connection to the watch for about 2 days and my rash was just getting worse. I thought there might be some kind of left over chemical from cleaning / painting on the watch that was causing my reaction. I've worn a watch all of my adult life and I have never had a problem like this before.
I decided to clean the clasp with some cotton swabs and alcohol. When I sat down to clean the watch, I realized that the paint is coming off of the clasp already. This was before I even started cleaning so it was not caused by the alcohol. I work in an office so I'm not very hard on watches. There should be no reason that the watch is losing it's paint into my skin with less than a week of wear on it.
[...]
Bought this one in a tax free flight magazine (EU 95). PLeased with it so far except for one thing: It is supposed to be titanium and hypo allergenic. The looks of this watch is great though. Pure class. Looks 10 times better than most watches 10 x this price.
But the clasp is made of stainless steel, NOT titanium. So if you are ultra sensitive to metals, pass this one up. I have notified Skagen of this, and if they make changes or rectify, I will follow up.
Impressive looking, slim, light, classy, but I would caution about the black finish which started to wear off the clasp in about a week. Also, there is way too much glare from the crystal. Go for the grey titanium finish (add one star). I found the clasp secure and the date easy to set.
I find most men's watches to be so clunky they get in the way when you're working or even just sliding your shirt cuff over your wrist. This is a simple, inexpensive, beautifully designed watch that just about disappears on your wrist. It's understated, elegant and I don't think it would embarrass you no matter where you traveled. Some reviewers have complained that the color wears off the titanium band but I haven't experienced that yet. Those who returned the watch because they thought the clasp allowed the watch to easily come undone should spend a few moments with the manual. It's a two stage clasp and, believe me, if it's on properly the watch is not going anywhere. The problem is that the clasp is black on black and it's not obvious that there are two parts to the clasp. Take a moment to figure it out and you will never have a problem.
The watch still runs, but the mesh band is worthless. One snag on a sweater, and it fell to shreds.
Prior to that, the black coating was wearing off, the clasp was only moderately secure, and replacement? A reasonable $15 for the band with a Danish "Up Yours" shipping fee of $9.
Kind of tells you what the watch is worth.
I also felt that the pin attachment of band to watch was weak and poorly designed.
I found a Fossil Men's Watch FS4439 that is infinitely better made, more attractive and the same price.

Classical Literature - audible, kindle free books
I wasn't expecting much for the price, but I've got to say that I really didn't get my money's worth.
Like many Kindle owners, I kept seeing this title pop-up everywhere. My initial reaction was that it was a scam - some guy trying to con as many people into buying a cheap book as possible (hey, if 10,000 people buy a book for a few bucks, it all adds up, right?).
Turns out there's actually quite a bit of content here. I didn't find it particularly useful, but there are lots of words - don't worry that you're only going to get a two-pager with a few web links. That's not the case.
After reading through this, though, I was left with a few thoughts I hope my fellow Kindle readers will appreciate:
1) It's not a scam, but let's be clear that advertising for the author's website/blog, "Kindle Nation" is probably a big reason this book exists. I can understand pitching it a bit up-front (nothing wrong with a bit of self-promotion), but there's an entire chapter in the middle of the book entitled, "How to Contact Kindle Nation"...
2) It's the Kindle-owner feel-good book of the year! Way too much of this "book" focuses on telling you how great your Kindle is. I agree, of course. The Kindle is awesome, but most Kindle owners should know this without having to read a book about it. :) It's kind of like buying a new TV, and then going out to buy a book about how great your new TV is... Oh, and this new edition talks about getting this free content WITHOUT NEEDING A KINDLE!!! If you pay any attention to the Amazon website, you'll already know that there are Kindle apps for all kinds of devices... No need to buy a book to tell you that.
3) I didn't actually learn anything. The vast majority of information in this book is available on Amazon's Kindle website or in the Kindle manual for free - and it doesn't even provide full end-to-end, step-by-step instructions for most things...you'll still need the manual. The few truly 'new' topics (e.g. Calibre) are pretty easy to find by Googling "Kindle".
4) Not well-written. I'm not an author (and anyone reading my review will probably agree), but the author is just so damn verbose it's not funny. And it's not like the extras words make the steps you need to go through to get the free content easier to understand (that's what bullets are for - and there aren't a lot of those in this book). This is written in a style that makes you feel you're in a 3-hour, one-sided conversation...
Don't get me wrong - some people may well find it useful to buy this.
If your friends all have iPads and you want some talking points around what's great about your Kindle so you can still show your face at parties - this book is for you.
If you're technologically challenged and need someone to hold your hand through Kindle Basics, don't like reading things 'on the web' and you're finding the manual a bit hard to understand - this book is for you.
If you love Kindle Nation and are looking for ways to subsidize it - this book is for you.
If you enjoyed the rambling prose of this review and didn't feel that I could have got my point across simply by saying, "This book sucked" - this book is for you. :)
I gave it two stars instead of one because it does deliver what it claims to and I didn't find any spelling mistakes.
But seriously folks...like...wow. KINDLE FREE FOR ALL: How to Get Millions of Free Kindle Books and Other Free Content With or Without an Amazon Kindle (NEW and UP-TO-DATE: MAY 2011 - For ... Latest Generation Kindles and Kindle Apps)
I've only had a Kindle for about 3 months now. In that time, I found a Kindle blog that I enjoy which referred this book.
As I don't know as much about the Kindle as others, I'm finding this book to be pretty darn useful. And, I think I will get much more use from it as time passes.
I've found the links to be handy, as I have taken the suggestion of the author to put this on my Kindle for PC, as well.
It's also written in a very amusing manner, as well. I do disagree with the author that the lighted cover is a good deal at $60 (I think that is much too expensive), but that is a pretty minor quibble, indeed.
If you know a ton about your Kindle, this probably isn't necessary. For a newer owner, I think it will be quite handy. You will find handy information about free book sites (including Baen)and info. about some of the history. Also various interesting trivia - such as Oprah admitting she had never read Dickens. Odd that she recommends a book she hasn't read, but there you are.
For the cost of 99 cents, this wasn't a hard purchase for me to make.
As other reviewers have mentioned, I wasn't sure what I was going to get for 99cents --- But I pay that much for a song on iTunes, it seemed like a good idea at the time . . . and I am grateful that I bought it.
I'm surprised at the reviewers that say that the only folks to whom this may appeal is those new to the Kindle. While SOME of the information is in the User's Guide, I found much in Steve's book that was quite helpful.
For me the book was a steal if only because of the Chapter on Calibre. As a long time user of eReader on the Palm, I had several books that I was hoping to convert for reading on my Kindle. Books that are not (yet) available on the Kindle and that it would be nice to have readily available electronically.
The other thing that I really liked about Free for All is that it is current and up-to-date. I have also downloaded Michael Gallagher's "Tips, Tricks, and Shortcuts" but that book has some way to go to be current for the latest generation (3) of the Kindle. It is readily apparent that Steve's book is current (December 2010).
Yes, he touts his blog. The blog is an excellent resource for books. But there is so much more to this book than just mentioning Kindle Nation that I really have to wonder if a couple of the other reviewers and I even downloaded the same book.
I like having all of the information in one place in my "Kindle Resources" collection. - Audible - Kindle Free Books - Ebook - Kindle 3'

Office Supplies - packaging tape, boxes
Before using this tape, I was using the "Packaging" tape variety. I chanced upon this type when I ran out of tape one day and had to grab one at the local supermarket. I like this one better after using it. On the paper core of this "moving" tape, the words "mailing and storage" are printed. I guess "moving and storage" and "mailing and storage" both refer to the same tape. The reason this tape is better is because it sticks to mailing boxes better than the "packaging" tape, which sometimes lifts itself off the cardboard box. I had to apply another layer of that tape at 90 degrees sometimes to the first layer to make sure it sticks. The "packaging" tape seems to stick better to tape than to boxes. This tape is also thinner, and clearer, so that it weighs less and I can tape over the address label without obscuring it. The lighter weight makes a difference because if you are just 0.1 ounce over the limit of, say, one pound or two pounds, you need to pay the higher postage rate of the next weight limit. The difference can be as high as 2-3 dollars or about the same price as a 54 yard roll of this tape! Highly recommended! Scotch Long Lasting Moving & Storage Packaging Tape, 1.88 Inches x 54.6 Yards, 4 Rolls (3650-4)
I've used a lot of packing tape over the years and I am dissatisfied with this brand. Although the tape is strong it doesn't stick to the boxes very well. I've come back to boxes that I back a few hours ago to find the tape has peeled right off.
This is a decent tape but not as good as the "Packaging" type. The Packaging type is thicker and more resistant than the Mail and Storage type. This tape feels somewhat cheap and prompts me to double tape everything.
I have used this packaging tape for years without problem. I have found it to be the best tape for general packaging and you can rely on it to get your package delivered in one piece. It is very strong and durable and it clear so it looks nice. It works very well in a tape dispenser.
I bought this tape as I am moving. It's held up very well.
Pros:
-Sticks very well to cardboard boxes
-Price on Amazon is great
-Don't need to apply multiple layers to make it stick
Cons:
-Would be nice to have a dispenser come with it (but you buy one separately if it's important)
What can I say about Scotch Brand tape? It is and always has been the best tape company for a long, long time. Of course, this product is no different than all the other fine products that Scotch makes. I use a ton of packaging tape when shipping my eBay items and Scotch brand is always the sturdiest and easiest to work with. Yes, it is a little more expensive but it is worth it in the long run. There is never a problem with 'losing' the beginning of the tape on the roll and then wasting a bunch of it to get it started again. I highly recommend this product and the company that sells it. It's the best.
It's a little strange writing a review about Scotch Packaging Tape. What's to say? I always wish people would include the price they paid so I can compare current to past price - so I paid $10.99 for the 4 roll package. It comes off the roll cleanly instead of gumming up and making it hard to get the tape off the roll as other brands have done - even when a roll is found in the back of a drawer years later. The tape is hardy and doesn't break unless I cut it. I'd rather have a strong tape I have to hunt down a knife or scissors for than one that tears using hands. I've applied it to heavy moving boxes and never had the tape fail even after being on the moving box for years - both top and bottom of boxes stay safely sealed. The tape never fails to stick to any surface I've applied it to including cardboard, KitchenAid plastic bins, large envelopes, mending various plastic items, and so much more.
This is the first time I am disappointed in Scotch tape, but when I peel it off to start using it the tape is splitting. Very frustrating. This is why I usually pay extra for Scotch brand, to avoid that problem, but this particular tape is disappointing. In the future I will stick to their mailing tape. - Packaging Tape - Boxes - Scotch - 3m'

Tomtom Dashboard Mount - tomtom, tomtom dashboard mount
After many hours of shopping for a GPS for my car I settled on a TomTom model XL 330 S. Being brand new to these navigation systems I didn't think I needed anything more sophisticated. I think I made a great choice and I'm very happy with the brand and model I chose. What I'm not nearly as happy with is the TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount for TomTom GPS Navigators I bought at the same time. It looks like it's made well enough, as it's heavy and substantial, but when you try to attach the GPS's suction cup to it to try to anchor the GPS to it, there is just no way! I removed the protective film that protects the surface on the mounting plate from scratching during shipment and cleaned the surface with an alcohol swab they include. I cleaned the suction cup on the back of the XL 330 and tried it again, no better result. I still am using the Dashboard Mount but now the plate which is attached to my GPS sits "under" the Mount as it is heavy enough to keep it from moving too far. A brick would serve the same purpose, but would scratch your dashboard and wouldn't look as nice. Then again the Dashboard Mount looks kind of goofy too. The Mount is not a good/wise investment. rob TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount for TomTom GPS Navigators
This works but I don't think it is made for the 4.3 inch GPS that I have. It must be for the smaller one because my GPS doesn't fit well into the center of the mount. It would probably work for the smaller one however. Seems like that should have been clarified before I purchased it.
The TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount seemed like a great idea... it provides a way for the GPS to sit on the dashboard and is easily removed when you park without anything permanent on the dash or window. The problem is the GPS keeps falling off the mount! The GPS has a suction cup on the bottom of the attachment but it does not stay (stick) on the mount...no matter how we did it. I finally bought industrial strength velcro which I attached to the suction cup and to the mount, which works! I shouldn't have had to do that. TomTom has had complaints about this before... they should be the one to fix it!
I love my dash mount for my Tom-Tom. Attachments to the windshield can leave that tell-tale "footprint", an invitation to a break in. I grab the dash mount, I can put the whole thing in my trunk, under the dash behind a bag, nobody knows there is a GPS in the car. It's easier to adjust for the proper viewing, and I find it much less obstructing than the windshield mounts.
The Amazon webpage for this item reads "This mount works with all TomTom products..." Not True! I have the TomTom GO 720 widescreen, and it is way too big for the dash mount. Now I have to go the trouble of returning it. Amazon should change the ad copy.
The TomTom attaches to this with suction and when it's cold, the suction doesn't work. It attaches initially but then the cold makes the rubbery plastic shrink and it falls off, often with the GPS unit still attached! I tossed the box or I would return it!
When it's not especially cold, it works but I haven't had the chance to try it in very warm weather. I suspect it will be ok but not being able to use it 1/4 of the year makes this a fail for me.
I bought one of these beanbag mounts as I am in a rental car around 3 times a month and I wanted my own GPS rather than pay to rent one. I have a TomTom Go-930 which is not small but which comes with a short fixed arm on a suction mount. When I tried to attach the mount to the beanbag - I found that the power cable which is on the underside of the Go930 actually protruded below the level of the beanbag. The plug rested on the beanbag base and the Go930 bounced off the mount.
I had 2 spare mounting disks - so I stuck them one on the other then onto the base of the beanbag. This lifted the base of the Go930 sufficiently that the beanbag now worked. It must be said that it works well and doesn't leave a suction cup 'ring' on the windshield that attracts car thieves.
It is amazing that the designers did not step through the TomTom product line checking such a basic design issue as whether the suction arms lifted the GPS high enough. This amounts to just careless design.
Finally - as I said at the beginning I bought the beanbag so that I could use the GPS on rental cars - only I fly to where I pick up the cars. TSA go into bad wobble-mode when they see this thing on their x-rays and call for a check on lane. If you do need to travel with it - carry it separately through security in its own tray like a laptop. It doesn't stop the wobble mode but at least they don't insist on emptying your carry-on.
Thanks to this gadget, I was able to overcome the problems created by TomTom's poorly designed mounting bracket that is far too short for the GPS and it's connector at the bottom. The bad design of the bracket that came with my TomTom, results in the GPS hitting the dash unless you tip it up at about a 45 degree angle, which sure makes it ridiculous to use and see.
TomTom gives you a disk for mounting their GPS on top of the dash where its easier to reach, etc., and less apt to fall (when it's stuck on the windshield), but the short arm on their bracket and range of the ball-joint makes it essentially impossible to mount it there! As a retired engineer, my opinion is that their bracket was a really dumb design. (I tried to point this out to TomTom but they did not really get back to me!)
This clever weighted dashboard mount allowed me to move the GPS closer to me to where I could hang the bottom of the GPS and power connection over the front edge of the dash, where no longer hit the top of the dash. This also brings the GPS a lot closer to you than when it's mounted on the windshield where its much easier to reach to use. Mounting the GPS makes it a lot less prone to fall off and get damaged since there is also less strain on the suction cup.
Another nice feature is that it makes it easy to pick up the whole
kaboodle and hide it somewhere when you park the car. GPS units are a great incentive target for car breakins, and hiding everything makes that a lot less likely. According to the police, you don't want to even leave the mounting bracket in plain site and this mount makes hiding it very easy.
My wife also uses this type of dashboard mount in her car with her GPS, where the windshield is even further away. She really loves it. - Tomtom Dashboard Mount - Gps Mount - Tomtom - Gps Dashboard Mount'
