Love - amazoncom collection, medical coding

I was skeptical by the sample picture on the item page, but after reading through reviews and hearing that it looks much different in person, I decided to go for it because I liked the design.

When I received it, I was very surprised how white, shiny, and so beautiful it looks in person. I think that Amazon should update the item picture!

I gave it to my girlfriend on Valentine's day, and she loves it and always wears it. Unfortunately, I made classic the mistake of buying the wrong size. But no matter.

If anyone is thinking about getting this, go for it! And don't be fooled by the picture. It looks completely different in person. 10k White Gold Diamond Heart Ring (.04 cttw, I-J Color, I2-I3 Clarity), Size 7

I bought this ring when it was on sale (I believe I paid $59.99); and what a deal it was! It has the vintage look, with the sparkle of diamonds. The diamonds are very tiny (which is to be expected for the price), but boy do they catch the light! They have great clarity as well. (Just so you know, the picture makes the gold look a little dark, and maybe even a bit colored- but I can assure you it's very much a pristine white.)

It would be perfect as a promise ring, or even an engagement ring!

..Even at its current price, you're still getting a bargain!

The picture makes it look like yellow gold, but it's really more silvery white in color, because it's white gold, and the tiny diamonds make it sparkle. The detailed designs make it look antique, too. I think it's a great value, because I purchased this at 30% off and free shipping back in February, and just received it now in April! It was worth the wait. I highly recommend this ring, but wait for a sale. The price did go up alot since February.

I bought this ring as a promise ring for my 47 year old girlfriend. She absolutely loves it. We were both pleasantly surprised how gorgeous it looked when we opened the box. We think the designer is a genius!

I practically squeeled with delight when my ring was delivered (partly because I was so excited to have it, and partly because it arrived within 2 business days!), and when I opened the box I was not disappointed. This ring is shiny and just as beautiful as I imagined. A few people have commented that the picture of it presented here does not do it justice, and I have to agree. I am absolutely I LOVE with this ring, and so proud to wear it. What a steal of a deal, too. Worth every penny. Thank you, Amazon!!!

I just bought this ring a few days ago. The picture here doesn't do justice to the beauty of the ring. It is the most beautiful vintage ring, perfect for petite fingers. I am a size 5 and it looks great. I have got numerous compliments for it already. A great find! - Amazoncom Collection - Medical Coding'

All In One Printer - multifunction printer, all in one printer

I used this 2 times in my Cannon multi function printer. It worked great no problems, no mess and the quality of my prints were good too. The 3rd time my printer would no longer accept it even with all the tips and tricks to override it. I spent at least 3 hours playing with it.

I finally went with a laserjet printer which is the absalute best option and gret investment if you can deal with black and white only printing. Canon Black Refill Kit for PG-40 & PG-50 Ink Cartridges - Inkjet - All In One Printer - Canon Printer - Multifunction Printer'

Clothing - socks, clothing

I bought these to replace the pilling, elastic-fraying generic gym socks I bought from foot locker a year ago. The quality difference between those and these Adidas is apparent right out of the packaging. They're much thicker, sturdier, and have better elastic built around the opening to keep the sock in place during use. I've washed and worn them multiple times and they've maintained their shape. Overall, quite happy with the purchase. adidas Men's Cushioned 3STR 3-Pack Low Cut Sock, Black/White, Shoe Size 6-12

I needed a few pairs of socks for running and, since I've got bad knees, I wanted socks with some cushioning to help absorb the impact. Plus I wanted something that would breathe well and wick away the moisture. Happily these socks work as advertised on all counts. Also, I was surprised by the reviewer that wrote that they don't fit a size 11. I'm a size 11 1/2, and they seem to fit me fine. I've run in these socks (3-4x/per week, 5 miles/run) for about 3 months now, and they're still holding up well.

Nice socks. Bought these a while back and so far no noticeable wear and tear after multiple uses and washes. My shoe size is 10 1/2 and these fit perfectly. Happy with the product just ordered some more. - Athletic Socks - Socks - Clothing'

Inkjet Printer Ink - good, respirators

Exactly as advertised; the easiest fitting mask I've ever used. Doesn't fog your glasses, either. Bought it for use in a shop environment with lots of abrasives and grinding dust in the air.... MUCH more effective than the previous mask used (P95 only), and more comfortable. Well worth the money: how much are your lungs worth? 3M R-2091 Particulate Filter P100, 4-Pack

I use these for woodworking and they do a great job of keeping the dust out of my lungs. I got these to replace the P-95/organic filter that came with my mask. The organic filter gets a little heavy on the face after wearing them for extended periods. The P100s are nice and light and allow me to keep my mask on for as long as I need it.

They work well for dust. Being a masonry tuckpointing contractor around the Chicago area I use these filters with a full face mask. You can knock the dust out of them a few times but eventually need to be replaced.

There is nothing wrong with the product. Unfortunately, the product description (and all the others for similar products as far as I can tell) does not give the size of the filter disk. I hoped that that meant that there was only one standard size, and ordered anyway. WRONG - this product has a 4 1/4" diameter. My mask needs 3" disks.

When ordering ten 4 pack products, two packs [ ten ] came. And a receipt is 30 pieces by two packs. And payment is asked for four packs [ ten ]. U.S. companies are what to this extent.

I was a former army, and since the U.S. Forces were playing an active part in the earthquake disaster, I placed an order by US Amazon. It is regrettable. From now on, he will buy it in Japan. - Respirators - Good - Dust - Filter'

Digital Camera

I have tried so many different cleaning tools, and I always stuck with the basic lens tissues and cleaners. But with today's lenses, they didn't do the job (speed and ease) I was looking for.

The guy at my local (100 year old) camera shop recommended I try one of these.

I have removed all other cleaning items out of my bag except for one "cloth" that I use to clean the outside of my camera and this pen.

Always start with the "brush" to brush away any grit or sand that could possibly scratch the lens. Then lightly, use the other side (felt) to clean away smudges and other marks. It's quick, easy and unbelievably effective!

I use it on my lenses, the LCD of my SLR and even my cell phone.

The first one lasted me a year. I am on my second and recommend it everywhere I go. LensPEN Lens Cleaning System

I read about the LensPen in a photography magazine and decided to give it a try. Trying to keep DSLR filters and camera lenses clean is a chore, especially when cleaning liquids keep leaving some smearing, no matter how careful you try to be. The Lenspen has two types of cleaners in one small package -- a very good dust brush and an excellent cleaning wiper for smudges or dried moisture spots. I learned the hard way that dust can build up over time, especially on the small lenses of point and shoot digital cameras. This makes the pictures you take blury and darker than they should be. Don't be disappointed, if you want to keep those pictures as crisp as when your camera was new, you need to keep a lenspen in your camera bag and use it before every shoot. Two great tools in one tiny package make this job as simple as can be!

I used to use microfiber cloth to wipe off my lenses. I realize now how unnecessarily time-consuming and risky that was. This is a must-have. I am VERY picky about minute smudges on my glass. This "pen" flawlessly polishes them out quickly, and to me, the less time I have to spend rubbing something on my expensive lenses to clean them, the better. I didn't know water drops or smudges could come off so fast without a trace. Great product, and gentle on your glass.

Quick and Easy way to remove smudges and dust from SLR Cameras and Lenses.

Note:

When Amazon was out of stock, I ordered from a 3rd party vendor, Eforcity and received a counterfeit product. It wasn't the same high quality as the original Lens Pen and it went back to that vendor for a refund. I reordered from Amazon and received the correct product. So beware of counterfeits that are not of the same quality. I have used the NIKON version of the Lens Pen and it is identical, except for red vs. yellow plastic with black and of course, the higher price.

Some people have complained about getting a knock off but as long as you purchase it directly from Amazon and not a 3rd party seller, be assured that it is the real thing. See the third image for the one I received versus the fake one (second image). It does its job and is no different from all the old Lenspens I have used before. Good price, good product. Any carbon particles can be blown off with a rocket blower or with a similar contraption.

This is a great cleaning option to keep handy. I too have stuck with cleaning fluid and tissue, and will continue for thorough cleaning, but having this tool in my bag is very convenient.

The brush is great and the pad seems to remove smudges well.

With the first use I saw excess cleaning solution on the filter, but subsequent usage shows no signs of excess or streaking.

Highly recommended for portable cleaning.

I searched Amazon for "LensPEN LP-1" (the actual product name) and was brought to the page for this item. This is NOT a real LensPEN. It is a cheap Chinese knock-off. If you want the original item, keep searching because this isn't it. I don't know if this item actually works, because I won't risk using it on my very expensive equipment.

I don't believe this is a genuine LensPen. This one leaves a residue behind whereas I have a LenPen "micro" Pro and it is brilliant. Also I believe all real LensPens have the brand name on the pocket clip. Still, it's a nice brush for $3.

I order a Lenspen lens cleaning system by "LensPEN" from Amazon marketplace(HDE). I received the item and tried it on my lens, believe me my lens looks very bad after using it. I think I got an duplicate product because nowhere it says the manufacturer as "LensPEN". Be careful in choosing the seller.

Tired of smudging your LCD screen with your nose while looking through your camera's view finder? Then, a lens pen is for you! With a quick swipe, smudges are instantly gone. I can't believe I did not have a lens pen before now...you will be please, too, I'm sure.'

Alternative Health - healthy eating, health

Well, Ok not quite but almost! A few months ago my teenage daugher and I were diagnosed with numerous food allergies and told to follow a rotation diet. A life long vegetarian, it was an almost overwhelming to be told I could no longer eat soy, eggs, pinto beans, kidney beans, avocados, etc. And my daughter is not allowed any legumes as well (nor sugar either). Clearly the protein was going to be a challenge (we really dislike flesh foods of any kind) but then I read the guidelines for the rotation diet itself and quickly discovered the extreme limits of my food knowledge! Sure I had heard of (but never cooked) quinoa and flax but amaranth and yautia? Not. And even if I could find where to purchase these items, how would I prepare them? Both our weight and our attitude dropped signficantly in the first few weeks. Then we "modified" the guidelines and found ourselves physically sick again. Luckily for us, my husband purchased this book on a trip to Dallas. While I was skeptical about it's holding my interest as an actual "read through", I found it quite engrossing from almost the first page. Not only do I now know what to do with the foods on a rotation diet list (knowing that yautia is similar to potatoes means I can now make a favorite soup that otherwise I would have passed over) but because the index is brilliantly organized I can easily look up say "warming foods" and adjust my internal thermostat rather than the whole house which made my husband doubly glad he had bought it! The same for high BP, colds, cancer, you name it. And I can relax about the protein issue as well knowing which foods on "our list" are highest in protein instead of just choosing those foods with which I might have previously been most familiar. I bought a copy for my mom for her birthday and she can't put it down either! If you are really interested in preparing a variety of healthy foods no matter what your current state of health might be, do yourself a favor and buy this book. It might not save your life but it will certainly liven up your meals no matter what kind of diet you follow! The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia: A Comprehensive Resource for Healthy Eating

This is an excellent reference for any cook who wants to know more about whole foods, including grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. Rebecca is a very kind, warm person, and her personality shines through in this book. The contents include both Western scientific knowledge about the proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals contained in foods, as well as their properties from an Eastern perspective, including Ayurvedic and Chinese Traditional Medicince. Rebecca draws from all of these traditions to present the wonders of whole foods. You may buy it as a reference but I guarantee you will browse just for the pleasure of it!

Any book by Rebecca becomes a food bible for me. I trust her research, her training, her life experiences and her instincts about food. This Encyclopedia helps me cut through the marketing hype around natural foods. Besides being so informative, it's a darned interesting read as well! Friendly, charming and reminiscent of all things good, wholesome and healing. My young son and I love her old-time recipes for such things as tree sap gum and acorn meal. This book is a trustworthy guide to making food choices. It belongs on anyone's shelf of tried and true natural health classics.

Sometimes, the trick with books of this nature is being able to find the information you are looking for quickly and easily. There are a number of other books on the market that contain much the same information as this book does (in more detail) but what sets The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia apart is its remarkable ability to simplify the key information down to the most essential basics. Elson Haas' Staying Healthy With Nutrition for example, is an excellent resource but at nearly 1000 pages it requires a bit of digging to get to the specific information you need. The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia is always the first place I check for the basics before researching more specialized, detailed sources. It's to natural food what Ephraim Katz' Film Encyclopedia is to film...namely, the best resource for concise, general overviews.

The author is very good about providing cautions of possible adverse issues with certain foods. For example, the author discourages the use of canola (rapeseed) oil, overconsumption of raw, uncooked flaxseed due to possible toxins and a concern with rancidity of pre-shelled nuts and seeds. Some health food books can get a little carried away with championing the alleged health benefits of foods without posting any warnings about potential mis-use.

One should note that this book does not contain information on any animal products.

This book is a great reference to foods and current dietary practices. Being a proponent of Weston Price's research on diet, I was pleased to find that the informationin this book is very much in line with that information. The book is laid out in alphabetical order, listing each food discussed, and describing how to choose and use it in one's diet. I was quite pleased with how comprehensive and wide ranging the information was. The cover states that it includes information on Ayurveda, Western nutrition, and tradidtional Chinese medicine, and the book lives up to that promise very well.I have grown tired of all the fad diets and cookbooks that are perpetrated by various economic interests, and this book is a breath of fresh air. My only complaints are the near total lack of information about animal foods (which the book does not even pretend to include, so that is okay), and the "incomplete" information on soy. I have serious issues with the soy industry and some of the goings on therein, and personally avoid soy products of any kind like the plague. The soy industry has been behind campaigns of disinformation about healthy oils like coconut, and I do not trust any information that comes from those quarters. Much of what is circulated in vegetarian circles about the history of soy use in the Orient is distorted. Yes, it was in the Yellow Emperor's book as one of the 5 sacred grains, but it was never eaten as a food by humans until it could be made safe by fermentation, and then seldom in amounts greater than a couple tablespoons a day as flavoring (until the influence of the modern soy industry, that is). It was used as a rotation crop to fix nitrogen in the soil until fermentation was discovered. That is a part of the history that seems to get lost in the telling.Wood does have caveats against certain soy products, thank goodness, and her blindness to the dark side of soy is the only complaint I have about the entire book. The rest, including the use of coconut oil and butter, seems to me to be right on the mark. I wholeheartedly recommend this book as an additional reference to Sally Fallon's "Nourishing Traditions," and Ron Schmid's "Traditional Foods Are Your Best Medicine." It is a very good reference to the vegetable, grain, and fruit foods available.I would like to take off 1/3 of a star for the soy stuff, but feel that the rest of the book is so good as to merit an overall 5. - Healthy Eating - Nutrition - Alternative Health - Health'

Recumbent Exercise Bike - recumbent bike, exercise bike

The bike shipped promptly, was easily assembled by my husband in about 30 minutes, and is everything the other reviewers says it is. It is SILENT, even when I'm biking fast (well - fast for me is 20 miles an hour). It is built well and seems very solid, although you can move it around a room pretty easily. It does not wiggle or bounce you, which makes it nice for reading. It is also nice that the controls do not block your view to the television. The calorie counter is not accurate. It shows the same number burned in my first 30 minutes at 20 miles per hour, as it does for my second 30 minutes at 15 miles per hour. I still gave it 5 stars though, because without knowing your weight and body fat percentage, no machine will accurately tell you the calories burned. I got rid of an elliptical trainer to buy this, because in order to go fast enough to get a good cardio workout on the elliptical I had lots of hip joint and knee pain - not so initially, but my body adjusted and I just couldn't work up a sweat even on the highest tension without the joint pain. I am getting a great workout on this bike, set at a level 2 difficulty, with no joint pain. Because there are 8 levels, I will have no problem continuing to challenge myself without having to just go faster. Phoenix 99608 Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike

Overall the product is well built and can easily handle the advertised 250lbs. However, if you are on the high end of the weight scale and in some form of reasonable fitness the maximum resistance will not be enough for you.

After having a few upright bikes I can say that this reclining model is much easier on your back and wrists. The padding on the seat does leave a little to desire, but it's easily bearable for 1hr rides.

All needed parts were included and it went together in about 30 minutes.

Like everything else in the world you get what you pay for. The computer frequently will not turn itself off even after hours of non-use. The dial to adjust the tension broke after the first day (springs back to max resistance when you set it). You can get around this with a little bit of tape to stick it where you want it. Realistically though, you won't be using this bike on anything but the hardest setting - so it's not that much of an impact for me.

In summary, this is a great bike to buy if you don't have very strong legs, or are a casual exerciser. I'm not in fantastic shape but the hardest resistance is really a little too easy. It is made in China but does seem reasonably well engineered. The faults with it can easily be overlooked (unlike other bikes the resistance is set mechanically, the computer could completely die on this bike and you wouldn't miss out on anything). It seems like it will be fairly durable, when/if it does break mechanically I will probably try a different model in the same price range.

This bike isn't noisy, nor does it take up a lot of space. I actually use it without the handle bars, which makes it even more compact. I also end up moving this bike around a lot (I'll move it near my computer to watch a movie, or closer to a light to read), and have had no issues- it's not as heavy as one might expect from an exercise machine.

I've had no problems with the time/distance attachment on the bike; it's very accurate. Just be careful, because the little box will fall if one knocks it by accident. Also, it's helpful to have two people when adjusting the length of the bike, I found it difficult to push together on my own. My final comment and reason for the 4 stars (not 5): Don't expect to spend more than a half-hour at a time on this bike, the seat isn't really cushioned for long usage... and it's really not super-comfortable in general- however, it is easy to add some pillows here and there.

I love this bike, it is so quiet. It was so easy to put together. I can watch TV or play video games and still get my exercise done. I bike for 90 minutes and burn 1000 calories. I can burn more calories on this than with walking or jogging. With this bike and the proper diet, I've lost 70 pounds, and I'm still losing. The price is now $50 lower than when I bought it.

--Not too hard to assemble if you follow the instructions.

--VERY quiet, nice for watching TV while riding.

--Eight settings that provide enough of a range for most people.

--Would appreciate a more padded seat.

--Unfortunately this bike does not work well for a short person. Even my 5foot-7inch wife has to put a pillow behind her to be comfortable. We added another setting by drilling another hole, but that shouldn't be necessary.

First off, these recumbent exercise bikes are freaking genius -- you mean I can get in some good cardio while I sit on my ass in an air conditioned room and watch TV, read, play video games??? Deal.

I've had this bike for two weeks and am very pleased with my purchase. It's well-manufactured (all pieces fit together well during assembly), sturdy, and very quiet. I am fairly athletic and I am getting good resistance from the middle settings. My only complaints are that the assembly instructions sucked often (but it's a relatively simple assembly, so you will be able to figure it out, eventually) -- and yes, the seat is not terribly comfortable.

So basically, other than the seat (which is only sufficient) -- awesome bike.

BONUS review notes -- Comparison to Schwinn Active 20:

I did check out the Active 20 in a sports store, so I can give these comparison notes to anyone else who is struggling to pick a bike between the two. The big upsides of the Active 20 are comfort -- much more comfortable seat and a sweet cup holder -- and brand name. Another upside of the Active 20 is a more advanced computer (looked like you could do resistance programs and stuff) -- HOWEVER, I also feel like this is a big downside, because you change resistance using the computer, whereas it's a mechanical dial on the Phoenix. The computers on both bikes seem pretty cheap, so I like that if something goes wrong with the computer on the Phoenix, I really don't even need it, I can still adjust resistance and pedal away. Knowing what I know now, with a [...] difference I would still re-buy the Phoenix magnetic bike, but if the difference was [...] Much tougher call; I could probably go either way at that point, which speaks to the excellence of both bikes. Just depends on whether you want a very bare-bones but very usable bike (Phoenix) or something a little more luxurious (Schwinn). - Highly Recommended - Recumbent Bike - Stationary Indoor Bike - Exercise Bike'

Dvd Recorder - lightscribe, dvd burner

I have had this drive for a little over a month now. I have burned over 40 DVD's and 20 CD's. I have only had a couple projects that failed. Both on lower quality Memorex discs. Never while using Verbatum discs. It is faster than my internal Super Drive on my 1 year old Gateway laptop. The internal drive had tons of trouble with DL DVD's and regular problems with any other type of media, were the LG just seems to burn through them with no trouble. (As long as quality media is used). DVD's burned on my internal drive would not allways play on my DVD player, or would pixalize regularly from poor burning. With the LG I have not had any trouble with that at all. I am VERY happy with the quality of this drive. For the price, you can't beat it. It also does a good job on Lightscrbe discs. Very good contrast compared to my internal drive. As a side note, I did not use the supplied software. I use Roxio Creator 2009 for burning, and Sure Thing for labeling. I find supplied software lacking in all cases, and would rather spend a few bucks on software I like. LG Electronics GE20LU10 20X LightScribe SecurDisc DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black)

For those wondering this does work with Windows XP & Windows 7. Opens and closes smoothly. Burns Cds & DVDs fast & perfectly. Takes 5 seconds for the Windows to actknowledge it. No extra software needed to operate this. No CD-ROM or download needed. Just a simple plug n play device. Doesnt come with any dvd editing software thou. Mine came with the power cord but not with the USB cable. Other than that I'm very satisfied with this!!!!!

I got the LG LightScribe external CD burner because we had to produce 150 CDs for a conference, and we weren't sure our laptop could handle that. The LightScribe technology was a new thing to me, but sounded promising. I did realize ahead of time that the label would be grayscale rather than any color, but to us the advantage of not messing with paper labels or a messy hand-marked CD was worth it. We had to go and find the software for the design of the laser-produced label, but that was quite easy. The result - our man burned labels on 150 CDs over 2 days (it took about 6 minutes or more per CD), then for another day and a half, did the content burning. It turned out that it took less time to do the actual content copying than to do the labels! We did use Verbatim disks, since they seemed to be recommended more, and had no problem with them. The only slight disadvantage was that the burner was a bit bigger than I expected, after being used to the very miniature CD burner in my laptop. It is about the size of a medium Bible, for those who can relate to that. But still, not bad. And we still have it for future use.

I got this when my laptop's DVD drive failed. This connects via a USB Cable to your PC and is easily recognizable on both Vista and Windows 7 (even on XP!). Drivers installed without a hitch and I was burning within 2 minutes!

Just got this burner in the mail yesterday, already burned 5 dvd's from my external hard drive onto disc, each taking about 5 minutes to copy. Superfast compared to my last internal burner which took about 45 minutes per movie.

Comes with several different software programs.

It should be noted or those who don't know, Lightscribe software is NOT included on the enclosed software disc. It is free to download on many Lightscribe websites though.

So far, no problems. Great looking drive, and super fast!

I love my LG Lightscribe. I've had it for a couple of years now. I've lightscribed and then burned approximately 400 DVDs and it is still performing like the day I bought it. It's plug and play right out of the box and I have not found any software that doesn't work with it. I feel I've already got my money's worth on this one.

I put a lot of faith in Amazon customer's reviews of products I am looking for. So when I needed a new DVD Drive for my aging laptop,I looked here first. I decided to give this unit a try. Could't be happier about the overall simple setup and compatability of this unit. Just plug+play, let the drivers get recognized by your P.C.,and your all set! It's that easy. Does everything well. A+ Product.

I bought this burner because I didn't want to use the one in my macbook. It stated on the box that it is Mac Compatible. IT IS NOT. Do not buy this if you are looking for a Mac Compatible burner. There is no support or drivers for mac on the website.

I bought this writer because I needed an external drive. The box says it is macable. Even though I have gotten the drive to work. It will not burn more then 2X.

After a long drawn out ordeal with General Electric. They have informed me that this drive along with any other products the make are not macable. They do

not support mac. They rely on the fact that a usb is usb. If you use mac do not buy this drive?

Purchased the LG Model GE20LU11 after reading the a review that indicated that the unit does work with XP and Windows 7. When the unit was delivered and I tried to install the included software on my Windows 7 computer it was a surprise to find the software was only for XP. Visted the LG site and found that there is no drivers or software for this unit that works with windows 7.

The unit does work with 7, but does not have all of the features the included sodtware provided. Not good. - Lightscribe - Dvd Burner - Dual Layer - Dvd Writer'

Battery Aa Rechargeable - aa, eneloop

[Updated Oct 24, 2008]

My original review on the Sanyo eneloop NiMH cells was written nearly two years ago. Since then, I have learned a lot more about the characteristics about eneloop and other low-self-discharge cells. So it is time to clear up some inaccurate information I wrote about eneloop's self-discharge rate.

1. I was told that the Sanyo eneloop cells were not 100% fully charged when they leave factory. This makes sense because new cells are fast-charged in the factory to save time. In order to avoid problem with heat and gas built-up, they cannot be charged to 100%. I have tested some eneloop cells that were manufactured 20 months ago, and they still maintained about 70% charge. On the other hand, cells manufactured 6 months ago contain about 75% charge. This confirmed that the discharge rate is much lower than I previously estimated.

2. The self-discharge rate of eneloop (and other LSD cells) is not linear! My own testing showed that a fully charged eneloop may lose 10% of its initial charge during the first month of storage, but in the second months it may lose just 2-3%. The rate becomes even slower after three months. In fact, my 5-month self-discharge test using various brands of LSD cells gave nearly identical results as my previous 3-month test.

3. When an eneloop cell is freshly charged, its capacity actually measures at about 5% higher than its rated capacity (2100mAh vs. 2000mAh). In my previous tests, I used measured capacity as base to calculate the percentage loss. This results in apparently higher percentage loss. Had I used the rated capacity as base value, the self-discharge rate would be about 5% lower.

Based on the above revelation, I believe Sanyo's claim about eneloop (maintain 85% charge after one year, 80% after two year) to be accurate. Therefore the title of my previous review ("The News of LSD Has Been Slightly Exaggerated") has to be replaced.

Over the past two years, I have tested several different brands of LSD cells available from Amazon.com, including Rayovac Hybrid, Kodak Pre-Charged, and Duracell Pre Charged. They have all performed very well - practically no difference from the Sanyo eneloop. So the bottom line is: just pick which ever brand of LSD cell is on sale, and you can't go wrong.

[Update on April 21, 2011]

- After testing and using various brands of LSD cells over the past four years, Sanyo eneloop cells have proven to be the most reliable and consistent of them all. I now have to recommend Sanyo eneloop over all others brands.

- Recently Amazon started to offer the SANYO NEW 1500 eneloop cells, at around 25% higher price. In my testing, the improvement of the new eneloop over the original is hardly noticeable. So you'll have to decide whether it is worthwhile to pay the extra cost. Sanyo Eneloop 8 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries

[IMPORTANT NOTE]

My original review below was written back in 2007, when the Sanyo eneloop first became available

through Amazon.com. Part of my initial estimation about eneloop's self-discharge rate turns out to be inaccurate. Please see my other Amazon spotlight review for updated information.

[Original Review follows]

According to Sanyo, the new eneloop LSD (low self-discharge) NiMH batteries can maintain 85% of its original charge after 1 year of storage. This claim is slightly misleading, because it is based on simulation test at 20 degree C. At higher temperature, the self-discharge rate is likely to be much higher.

I have tested five of those AA cells (details are given in my review for the eneloop 4-pack). The average energy loss is about 26% after less than 6 months of storage, based on manufacturer date codes. This self-discharge rate is about 3 times higher than what Sanyo claimed. However, it is still 6 times lower than that of ordinary NiMH batteries. Therefore I'm in the process of replacing most of my existing rechargeable cells to the Sanyo eneloop.

Thanks to lower self-discharge rate, you'll discover a lot more applications for eneloop cells in your house, such as in clocks and remote controls. Do NOT use those cell in smoke detectors, since their discharge voltage profile is very different from that of alkaline cells. Also, don't use them as emergency flash lights batteries in your car, because the higher temperature during summer time will probably nullify the advantage of LSD.

[Update on Jan 13, 2007]

I have tested six new eneloop AAA cells, dated "2006-06'. The average residue charge is 589mAh, and the freshly charged capacity is 827mAh. This implies a self-discharge rate of 29% in 7 months, which is consistent with the rate for AA cells (26% loss in 6 months).

[Update on Jan 29, 2007]

The Rayovac "Hybrid" rechargeable NiMH batteries are now available at Walmart, priced at only $[...] for 4-pack of AA or AAA cells. It is also advertised to have low self-discharge rate, but not as low as that for eneloop. The eneloop is supposed to retain 85% charge in 12 months (when stored at 20 degree C), whereas Hybrid is supposed to retain 80% charge in 6 months (no mention of temperature).

[Update on June 3, 2007]

In my 2-month self-discharge test using four different brands of NiMH cells. Hybrid and eneloop came up neck-and-neck!

Room temperature: 60-62 degree F (16-17 degree C). All capacities measured are average of 2-cells.

- Sanyo eneloop 2000, purchased Jan 2007.

Initial capacity measured: 2070mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1796mAh (-13.2%)

(Note: my previous result for eneloop showed -18%, but I repeated the test and it did better this time)

- Rayovac Hybrid 2100, purchased Jan 2007.

Initial capacity measured: 2155mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1859mAh (-13.8%)

- LaCrosse 2000, purchased Jan 2006.

Initial capacity measured: 1902mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1417mAh (-26%)

- SONY 2300, purchased Sep 2004.

Initial capacity measured: 2210mAh

Capacity after 62 days: 1309mAh (-41%)

So neither eneloop nor Hybrid did as well as advertised, but they are still significantly better than previous generation of NiMH cells. So you can't go wrong with either brand. - Battery - Nimh - Eneloop - Aa'
