Avery - avery, page protector

I have been using these for quite a while to protect family documents and presentation materials. Lately my local office supply store stopped carrying these, and I am very glad to be able to get them from Amazon. These multi-page capacity sheet protectors are deeper than the one-or-two-sheet capacity regular ones (which I also use), and hold up to 70 sheets per protector, great for storage of longer documents in binders. Avery makes these items of high quality material that is acid-free for archival use, which is what I require. I love them. Avery Diamond Clear Multi-Page Capacity Sheet Protectors, Acid Free, Pack of 25 (74171)

I looked for these clear plastic page holders so that I could use them for my tractor manual. The tractor is 30-years old - as is the manual and fairly hard to find nowadays - and needs a lot of care so I regularly spend time maintaining the engine as well as lubing the chassis, etc. Anyway, I found the best way to work on the tractor and use the manual without gumming up the pages so badly that they are unreadable is to put the individual 3-ring manual pages into these plastic sheets and then to only take out the sheets I need to work on the tractor. If I get the plasic sheets smudged or dirty they wipe up easily and the tractor pages stay clean. The plastic page holders were inexpensive and I received them quickly. Perfect solution to a messy problem.

I bought these to keep in a giant binder for all the various instruction manuals one collects from vacuums and televisions and microwaves. I guess I thought that since they were all "multi-page" booklets, this would be the right kind. The problem is that most of the booklets I seem to have are 6x9 or so and so they just slide around all over the place. I think I will have to get the one-page kind and see if they work better. They also tend to want to fall down out of the binder (kind of, hard to describe) with the smaller booklets. They work fine for the full size sheets. The quality of the plastic is exactly what you expect from Avery, and they are clear and shiny and turn well.

My local Staples doesn't carry these any more, and their store-brand substitute just doesn't measure up. The Avery product is crystal clear, and the slightly larger than 8.5x11" size makes it easy to insert two photos back-to-back.

Previously, I always purchased Avery products because I considered them top quality. Now, over the last while, all the local office supply stores started carrying their own brand and no longer carry Avery. I tried several different options with 2 different store brands, and found the quality to be inferior. On some the protector was sealed on all 4 sides, and on others, the top and bottom were open so my pages slid out the bottom. When I returned these inferior products to the store, I asked if they could get Avery and was told they no longer carry them.

Bottom line is that I was very happy to discover that Amazon is able to continue providing quality products at a reasonable price. - Avery - Page Protector'

Safety Whistle - backpacking, safety whistle

... really, what could you expect of a cheap piece of made-in-China plastic? I got two of these for a set of stick-in-the-car emergency kits, and while one seemed fine, the compass on the other didn't know what was up, down east or west. A 50 percent failure rate is not particularly reassuring if I'm planning on using this thing to get out of a messy situation. It is very, very orange, though, so it'll be quite easy for the search crew to find my remains after I get thoroughly lost trying to use this thing to navigate to safety. 5 in 1 Survival Whistle, Emergency Zone® Brand

Where do I begin? Emergency equipment should not be a liability. This device is just that. A liability. When you need it, you will find it will not function as intended. I had purchased three of these devices for 'gift' emergency kits I made. In testing the gear, I discovered on each device the same identical problems:

The whistle - barely works

The flint - is worthless, doesn't function at all.

The compass - has a bubble and consistently reads completely wrong

The waterproof case - isn't very waterproof

The only thing that works on this device:

It's orange. That means it's bright and can be noticed easily

The lanyard - because seriously, how do you screw up a nylon rope? Apparently even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while.

If you're willing to look at this device as a gimmick or novelty, then by all means it's worth the low price. But if you are relying on it for safety or emergency gear, you're going to be sorely disappointed should said emergency ever occur.

Don't forget about the lanyard cord! It could be used for many things like shelter building, securing a bandage or mending clothing. I know it's not much but it's still there. The compass is luminescent and works well. The flint is small but it does work if you know how to use it. The whistle is loud and hurts my ears. I stuff it with water proof matches, fire starter and striker. I submerged it for a few minutes and then lit a match - no problems with leaks. I got it at Walmart on clearance for a buck.

I like it! It came as it, the fire starter thingy (forgot what it was called) broke off but it was useless anyways. But the compass is awsome and i was able to put my tiny flashlight in the water proof container. THis product is really cute and fun for adventures. RECommend

Fast shipping too! 5 stars!

Sure, there are better emergency whistles, better waterproof match holders, MUCH better compasses, and better flints. But if you actually have this little inexpensive item with you, you'll be a whole lot better prepared than without it. I keep one of these in each of my kayaks, looped inside the skirting. Doesn't seem likely that I'll need it, but that's the whole point. Cheap enough to be prepared for the stuff you're confident you won't need to deal with.

This probably sounds silly, but we have friends that have a 3 and a 5 year old. We bought these for them to teach them the basics about wilderness survival. These are inexpensive, work as described, are fascinating to kids and were the centerpiece for some real fun (OUTSIDE).

Picked up this handy little item for the "bug out" pack and I must say that I'm impressed. The compass works very well - just hold it out in front of you and it will show proper direction (I tested it repeatedly while standing in front of my house). The container will hold about one dozen wooden matches (I also put a strike strip in there just to be safe) and the whistle can come in handy if you are lost. Overall, I highly recommend it!

Got this for my son in boy scouts. a nice whistle, with a decent compass, and will store cotton soaked with a little naphtha or charcoal lighter fluid in it, but the "flint" is easily worn down fast. But it can't be beat for a great 1 time use device! - Backpacking - Outdoor Gear - Emergency Kit - Safety Whistle'

Cordless Phone - co, phones

The VTech LS6215-2 comes with 2 cordless phones and has expansion capability up to 12 phones (I found the expansion phones are available by clicking the Accessories tab at [...]). Apparently, the older VTech LS6115 lacks expansion and intercom features.

This model does not include an answering machine--I prefer using my phone service provider's voicemail system. There is a voicemail indicator, which works well with my phone service provider's voicemail system--I use Vonage.

Reception, clarity and range for these DECT 6.0 phones (which operate at 1.9 GHz) are excellent. My previous 5.8 GHz cordless phones had too much frequency interference and had static or no signal. The volume adjusts from Mute to quite loud, with several settings between. The speakerphone is loud and clear on both ends of the line (the speakerphone button is an icon at the bottom left of the LCD screen). The range is also quite good--tried outside my house, about 100 feet from the base.

You can store 50 names/numbers, using the Menu/Select button--it's similar to saving numbers on your cell phone. Then, select a saved number by clicking the VOL up button and press TALK. Or call back missed/received numbers by clicking the VOL down button and press TALK.

The design is sleek, compact and intuitive. As an example, the intercom feature works great for calling the other handset--just press "INT", and it automatically dials the other handset. Also, the base has a "Find Handset" button, which when pressed, beeps both handsets. The phone buttons are also unobtrusive and give good tactile feedback. And the phones are easy to clean. Incidentally, the color scheme of the phones and phone bases is black/silver, not black/white.

Very impressive execution.

Hope this review helps.

P.S. - I received a comment on my review--thank you--and learned that DECT 6.0 operates at the 1.9 GHz frequency, so I've corrected that in my review above. Vtech DECT 6.0 Black/White Expandable 2-Handset Cordless Phone System with Caller ID and Handset Speakerphone (LS6215-2)

The phone looks very nice, very slim design looks GREAT.

The voice reception is very clear, the speaker phone works as advice. Only one cons so far. NO HANDSFREE JACK !!! The extension phone works very good with a long range. No wireless interference.

In conclusion:

Very Good.

Sorry for those with bad luck.

After much research on phones the bottom line is this: AT&T, Panasonic and V-Tech seem to be the top of the line phones. This unit is very light weight and portable. The key to charging any battery is to allow the unit to run down so the battery has a "memory" in which to recharge to a better (longer) state. The buttons are nice, and the background color is nice. A great change from the larger more bulky phones. I bought a 3 phone kit and just bought two more single units as "add ons" - Overall very happy with this phone!

I already owned an older Uniden 5.8 GHz phone, but with a recent switch to AT&T's U-Verse Voice service, I was ready for something that offered a voicemail indicator, as well as better range than 5.8 GHz technology can provide, while not sacrificing sound quality. This phone delivered on those requirements.

It makes sense that the industry switched to a lower frequency band (1.9 GHz) since lower frequencies travel better through obstacles. Higher-is-better does not apply in this case. My 5.8 GHz analog phones had great sound quality, but the range was the pits. I could not talk at the opposite end of the house from the base. With this new Vtech, dead spots are a thing of the past.

Sound quality is very good, which is an accomplishment considering how thin the handsets are. They are so thin and light, they are almost toy-like. My favorite feature, however, is the voicemail indicator which integrates perfectly with U-Verse's messaging system. At least one reviewer (may have been another model) complained they had to reset the voicemail-waiting indicators regularly. But I suspect their issue is with the phone company and not the phone since it's your phone company's system that sends the on/off signal to trigger the indicators. A fun - but yes I admit geeky - test I tried was to log into U-Verse's voicemail web interface which allows you to play your messages on your computer (say, when you're at work). I had a new voicemail, so I logged into the web portal and clicked on the play button for my new message. The second I clicked on "play" with the mouse, the voicemail indicators on the phone base and handsets cleared. Very well done U-Verse!

Enough babbling, here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

* very good sound quality (both listening and talking)

* voicemail indicators on handsets and base work well

* extremely light, thin handsets

* phonebook entries made on one handset automatically copy to the other

* if someone in your phonebook list calls, the handsets will display the name you assigned them (ie. "Mom & Dad", not the caller ID version). Many cell phones do this, and it's nice to see the feature on a cordless phone.

* excellent range, as you would expect with DECT 6.0 technology

Cons (sort of):

A $50 phone doesn't get you a whole lot of fancy features. True, you're not paying for an answering machine... why would you if you have free voicemail?

* the LCD screen is pretty basic (although the blue backlight is nice)

* the menus are clunky (but usable)

* the ring tones are nothing to write home about

* there's no distinctive ring feature

* it lacks auto-answer (although any-key answer is there at least)

* no wall mount (but it's pretty compact and won't take up much counter/table space)

Overall, this is a great phone for the money. The handsets are sleek and look much more expensive than they are, and provide good sound quality. It should integrate perfectly with your phone company's voicemail service, and the range is excellent. - Phones - Co - Cordless Phone - Dect Cordless Phone'

Ipod Nano Accessories - accessories, 6th generation

I really bought this package for the charging components, and these are very good. The wall and car chargers are great for charging my iPod when I am not near a computer (I travel frequently) and they are easy to use. The remaining components range from good to truly awful. The fishbone cord winder is really nifty - fun and functional and I am planning to use it for my nice earbuds. I also like the lanyard case, it's very easy to use and nice for the gym, and although the fit is "baggy" the unit does stay in and all controls are easily accessible. The other cases are just okay, not very stylish, and I prefer the color of my iPod over the case colors (white, black, translucent silicone.) I do not plan to use those cases. The earbuds are okay, the ones that came with the iPod are better, so I'll probably only use these as back-ups. Like another reviewer, I found the screen protector laughably awful - one of the stickers on it cannot be removed intact and leaves behind a trail of paper and glue. I suppose if one were inclined, one could remove it with glue remover, but it just seemed like more trouble than it was worth. Overall, this package is worth it for the charging units, the fishbone cord winder, and the lanyard case. DigitalsOnDemand 14-Item Accessory Bundle for New Apple iPod Nano 6th Gen Generation 8GB 16GB

I ordered this the same day as i ordered my 6th gen ipod nano and am very glad i did. It had everything I wanted plus! It had 3 different chargers so with the usb cable the nano came with, i can have one by my bed, one by the computer, one in my car and one at work...no more wishing i had the cable with me in one spot or another!

Probably the best surprise and the main reason i'm writing this review is the quality of sound that comes through the earphones. I really did not expect that AT ALL! I was ordering this kit for the screen protector and chargers. i was planning to buy Bose earphones in the near future because i am quite familiar with the cheap stuff that comes with any ipod and have purchased lots of cheap and some not-so-cheap stuff at the local volume discount store. I may still purchase bose?? don't know for sure, but these little ones i have now fit my smaller ears VERY NICELY - they are SO comfortable and the sound as i said was simply astounding! Combine the comfort with the quality and I was blown away! Thanks Digital on Demand! You made my ipod purchase an over-the-top satisfaction!

Also, I wonder if the screen protectors were upgraded or "fixed"? Mine worked perfectly - no sticky stuff left behind at all. The protector went on like a charm.

I will add one last comment. I purchased a silicone watch band for the nano, too and the silicone protectors that come with this cannot be on the nano when attaching it to the watch band which was kind of a bummer but, i got over it as soon as i heard the sound coming out of it a few seconds later, lol!

It appears to be a good product for the newest nano, but beware of the screen guard. A good idea gone bad.

There are two tabs on the screen guard itself that are to be pulled off so to place the guard on the nano.

Both tabs leave marks on the screen guard, which then requires a user to find the appropriate manner to get

all the stickie stuff off of the screen.

The assortment of items in the package are full of great uses and appear functional. I just hope that the

experience with the screen guard is not repeated with all the other pieces.

Price was right but .... you get what you pay for. Bought this primarily for ear buds....which came broken and I have not been able to get a straight answer where to send for repairs or to get a new one. Everything else is all useless junk which i may need one day

This package was worth it just for the chargers, let alone all the other items it came with. I had no problem with the screen protectors, as some other reviewers have stated. There is a video listed in the comments section to eliminate the issue of the hard silicone case popping off the screen protector. I just cut off about an 8th of an inch on two perpendicular sides and it worked like a charm. The only thing I probably won't use is the lanyard, but everything else is great.

This was a great idea but a poor and cheap product. I wanted something that was average but this was not. First, the stickers that were on the screen guard did not come off and the glue was still on the guard not allowing the the screen to be useful.

There really was more to this bundle than I realized.

I just needed the wall charger and was excited

about all the other things. Some of them I'm not even sure

what they are for...I can't imagine wearing my Ipod around my neck, but

hey...I especially like the earbuds. - 6th Generation - Ipod Accessories - Accessories - Case'

Wireless Printer

Before I ordered this item, I called to make sure that it was an OEM vs. generic version. I placed the order on 1/26/09 and the item was delivered on 1/31/09. Although I haven't opened the package, the box indicates that it's an OEM from Brother. So, perhaps Amazon has corrected the problem.

Also, someone posted this tip for another Brother printer cartridge, but it works on the TN360 as well.

The Toner Life LED flips on, requiring you to replace the cartridge, even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the other.

To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put a piece of masking tape over the clear opening/circle on the right side of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually, you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is truly empty. Brother TN360 High Yield Black Toner Cartridge

I spent so much $$$ on buying these toner cartridges but I just found a neat trick to extending your toner life. The printer is great but the toner light comes on way too early.

You can fix the problem by covering up the "sensor" on the toner cartridge with some white paper labels. There are lots of "how to" videos on youtube that you can find or you can go to [...] (that's the best one I found).

Please rate this review so it stays at the top and more people can see it.

At a reasonable price, this high-yield toner cartridge slips in nicely and makes enough copies to keep this paper-based home office content. As a writer, I need to do a lot of printing - I print out research, drafts, manuscripts, press releases, emails and documents all day long. I need a dependable cartridge and buy this one every time.

A good hint, if you do a tremendous amount of print jobs at home, is to re-set your default printer instructions for the lowest-quality and "toner-saving" settings. The pages come out lovely for my own use (not too light at all), and the cartridge lasts longer.

It's worth it for the price to get the high-yield cartridge, BTW. You are really paying much more for the plastic housing than any actual ink.

Plus, as each one of these large toner containers has a large carbon footprint as it's produced, and creates toxic waste in landfills when empty, getting as much use out of one single, efficient product is better for the environment than any of the lower-yield versions.

I've been using product for a few weeks now as I write this. It has performed flawlessly.

Here is a tip if your current printer/cartridge is reporting out of toner condition. Remove cartridge. On right side look for a small window (may be circular). Cover window with a little masking tape. Re-install cartridge. Toner error will disappear. Now you can use your old cartridge awhile longer while waiting for your new one to arrive.

Edit: 5 mos. Later: Still working perfectly except when I select "Toner Saver" mode. Then I'll see a little excess toner appearing like dust in a small area or two on the printed page. Of course I only use that mode when I'm printing something that I know I'm going to toss out after I read it.

I still recommend it.

While other "High Yield" toners by Brother such as TN570 and TN580 print more than 6,000 pages, TN360's capacity is only 2,600 pages. Each page will cost you 2 cents while TN570 and TN 580 less than 1 cent, excluding paper and depreciation of the printer. The similar calculation can be applied when you use recycle toners. The prices of recycled TN 570 and TN 580 are similar to those of recycled TN360, yet the former have twice as large printing capacity as the latter.

While HL-2140 and HL-2170w (printers using TN360) are cheap, the total running cost is not as low as they appear. If you print a large number of pages, I would recommend Brother HL-5370DW.

I have the MFC 7840W and love it. The toner thing was getting on my nerves, since it went low too early and as others have mentioned, you can't "shake and go" for longer life. Using the tip to cover the window on the right side of the cartridge with opaque tape, I have been through over 3 reams of paper and have put the fourth ream in earlier today, on that same cartridge that was at "end of toner life". I keep waiting for it to start fading, but it's still printing and printing and printing....

Was happy to get the OEM Brother cartridge after seeing that some people got the generic.

Also, the tape trick indicated in another review is a great tip. I think I have printed 300 pages + since the cartridge 'ran out' ... and it's still going.

I ordered a new toner cartridge to replace the 'starter' cartridge that came with the printer - when the toner light started blinking. A couple of weeks after the new cartridge arrived, the toner light went 'solid' and would not print. So, I used the 'tape over the port' trick to fool it into continuing to print. That worked and the starter cartridge is still printing fine - no streaking or significant fading yet. I still have it set on draft print mode for routine printing. Oh, I forgot to mention that I applied the tape in March of this year!! I'm writing this in early October. I don't print 'tons' but I'm sure I've printed another 1000 pages or so since the cartridge was showing empty. This is my 3rd similar Brother printer, (wired, then ethernet, then wireless) and all have worked fine as have the replacement toner cartridges.'

Copper Canyon - great family tent, camping

I am new to tent camping, so I cannot speak as an expert. I did do a great deal of internet based research to try to find the right test for our family of 6. Like the other reviewer, the Cougar Flats also looked like a good option, but I ultimately choose the Eureka due to the Eureka brand name and it's reputation for quality. We did have a backyard campout with the tent which at least gave me the opportunity to run it through a basic checkout. My impressions:

1) It's big! Great height. I'm short (5'6") and I can't even reach the top of the tent without a stool to hang the tent divider. We had three queen air mattresses in and that still left us with a reasonable spot for gear. There are two doors, one at opposing corners (to match with the divider when it is in use)

2) Divider: It is not a zipper, but it hangs on hooks. Because it is not a zipper based divider, it simply hangs over the floor and there is a gap all around (maybe an 1"?). So it provides some division, but not "real" privacy if you were concerned about that aspect. ( But if you have it up and "fold it back" the tent looks very "fancy". My kids got a big kick out of it.)

3) Very easy setup. Due to my height, I'm not sure I could put it up by myself, in particular the fly. Although I was embarrassed trying to put up the awning. Instructions are not terribly clear on that point. (There are extra guy lines for the awning poles to latch them to the ground.)

4)Seams: Most seams are tape sealed, but you will need to seal up the others. No experience in rain.

5) Door Zippers: The flap which protects the zippers from the rain sure seems to get caught very easy in the zipper. I'm not sure there is much that can be done about that other than use care when getting zipping the door closed.

6) Awning: Nice touch, not terribly wide but would provide coverage in the case of rain when getting in/out of the tent. (see my comments about setup) It does look quite nice and could get you somewhat out of the sun.

7) Other: Nice touches with the partitions in the roof to be able to zip in a small screen to block the sun during the day and open them at night. Lots of small latches for things. Zipper on both sides for power cords (great addition). Top is totally open and would be quite dramatic without the fly cover IF you could trust it wouldn't rain. Fly Cover is not that easy to just "throw on". I'm not sure what you would do if it started to rain with the rain fly on. Comes in a bag with cloth handles that seems reasonably robust. And yes, we did get the tent back in the original bag, although I kept the poles and stakes separate.

I'll post up additional comments once we've used the tent a few times more.

Edit: June 8th, 2007

We've done a number of "backyard" trips, and finally went to the wilderness to briefly try it out. I think most of my original comments are still accurate. Here's some updates:

1) The stakes are junk! We had some serious winds and the stakes would simply not hold the tent down. Fortunately I had purchased some Colman stakes (Coleman Tent Kit) for backup and at 2:00am I was out using them to get the guy lines to stay down. Having said that, the tent did ultimately hold up well in some very serious winds. (Hint: buy some good stakes and take a hammer)

2) Setup was as easy as ever. Tent fit well into our spot with no problems. Lots of room with 3 queen air mattresses.

3) Didn't use the awning. This seems to be a weak part of the setup. In a few nights in the backyard it simply can't hold up to any wind at all.

4)Tent fits nicely back into the original back and is light-weight (minus poles) I carry the pole bag separate but put everything else into the tent back. Not a big challenge, which is nice.

5) Continued issues with the zippers. I'm tempted to cut the black flap and Velcro it back when it isn't raining. You have to be very careful not to zipper the flap into the zipper. We've done this a number of times and you can fix it, but not a good thing during a middle of the night bathroom break.

6.) We used a combination of overhead lighting (Coleman Tent Light)and a small florescent lantern (Coleman 4D Pack-Away Lantern) and the combination worked out well.

Additional Feedback, June 23, 2007: All still accurate, a few more trips completed. The one issue I am starting to have is corner poles collapsing under very strong wind gusts. I'm no expert, so I'm not sure if this is a design defect or my inability to correctly put up the tent. See discussion below.

August 2010: The tent is still holding up quite well. We use it a few times each summer, nothing too rough. The overall quality is still there, no major issues. I still think you run a risk in high winds due to the high sided design, not sure there is much that can be done about that. I'm now back in the midwest, so no more strong canyon winds to worry about. But overall, good quality after 3 years of use. Eureka! Ive been searching in stores(Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot etc.) and have had checked prices, and have checked the quality of these Electrician's Pouches and ran into the ones being sold on Amazon, So I thought I would try the one from Amazon, and found that the price was not only incredibly great, but the Item was pretty top notch with or compared to the others Ive come to know,. I'm guessing that there must be quite allot of people buying this item at stores because I noticed that the stores sell out pretty fast with this item,.

So I give this two thumbs and two toes way up!! If you buy it, You wont regret it! McGuire-Nicholas 526-CC Brown Professional Electrician'S Pouch

Tough strong leather. Well constructed with rivits at stress points. Works well with the klien metal snap buckle web belt. I work for ATT installing internet and this belt is far superior to anything I wasn't issued.

I'm a fan of the oiled leather look and performance. I combined this pouch with the Style-n-Craft two inch belt for the eye appeal. This pouch holds many tools and is well thought out. The pockets and sleeves hold a multitude of tool types and sizes. The pouch is firm (nearly rigid) leather which doesn't change shape when you remove a tool for use, insuring that the spot stays reserved for that tool. The tape roll holder is a little hard to finagle with one hand, but it's still better than not having the tape with you. This should last a lifetime. - Tool Bags - Tool - Installer - Electrician'

Navigation - navigation, mapping software

Just got back from a trip in Spain where we used Autoroute 2010 to find our way around (Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Barcelona). Unlike another reviewer, we didn't encounter missing streets, but some critical pieces of information were missing that resulted in several hours of extra driving. For example, trying to get from the Madrid airport to our hotel in the downtown area, Autoroute tried to send us across a plaza that was blocked to auto traffic (permanently). In several cities (Granada in particular) it planned for us to drive on a road that was restricted to Buses and Taxis. In Cordoba it sent us the wrong way down a one way street! All of these errors combined to make it a nightmare to drive in an old downtown area with many one way streets. When there is no parking and no place to pull over to study the map, you get into trouble, fast. On top of that, add road construction and closed streets when Spain beats Germany in the world cup semi-final and you have a real headache. Then, since the recalculated routes often return you to the problem spots, you're left driving in circles or way out of your way to find a place to pull over and then have to route on your own, dragging the path to a usable street (at least you can do that). Glad I used the 60-day evaluation copy and didn't spend money on it. Unless they improve the quality of the map data, I will be looking for another solution the next time I'm in Europe.

Other gripes:

The Navigation view pane splits into three horizontal strips: list of directions, map, and next turn/trip info. On a widescreen laptop, this makes the map way too small (the benefit of a laptop over a standalone navigation unit should be the extra map real-estate). It would be much better to have the list of directions show in the vertical "pane" on the left and leave room for a larger map. It's possible that this can be configured some how, but I couldn't figure a way to do so.

It seems that pushpins (saved locations) can only be entered by clicking on the map at a particular location with the pushpin tool. I wanted to enter them by address (as I had the addresses of our 5 hotels and wanted to save them so I wouldn't have to search each time I started the software. Also, it would be nice if custom pushpins could be selected from a drop-down as an origin or destination for routing. Instead, I had to right-click, choose "Route" and then "Add as start" or "Add as end". That's tedious when you want to route to a pushpin that is outside of the current map's zoom level (zoom-out, pan to pushpin, possibly zoom in to differentiate, right-click, select).

Finally the pronunciation of the Spanish road names was atrocious ("Plaza de Espana" => "Plaza dee ess pot yawn". While this may be expected, I was particularly annoyed with the way it pronounced "onto ramp" (as in "merge onto ramp"). It sounded like "on tramp". For an English phrase that got used regularly, the pronunciation should be fixed.

The integration with the USB GPS antenna was nice and the software ran fine in a Windows XP virtual machine on a Mac laptop.

In conclusion: the application itself shows promise, with a few annoyances that should be fixed, but the map data absolutely needs some sanity checking. Microsoft AutoRoute 2010

We travel frequently to Europe on vacations. For years my wife hated being the "navigator" with paper maps. Like many couples with a wife as navigator that resulted in some arguments and upsets while on the road. Then, we started bringing a laptop on our trips, loaded with AuotoRoute. We both loved it, not only for use in the car, but as an excellent trip planning tool. We have an OEM car NAV system on one of our vehicles at home, but there is no comparison with AutoRoute on our laptop. That OEM GPS system with its little screen and limited capability is OK for general use around the US, but AutoRoute in Europe and Streets and Trips in the US puts that GPS to shame in all respects.

When it appeared that Microsoft had stopped producing AutoRoute and was no longer supplying updated data, we were both disappointed. We resolved to continue using our 2008 version of AutoRoute as long as possible. Now, we have a new 2010 version. My wife is very happy, and pleased with the changes that have been incorporated. So am I. It's a great product for supporting trips to Europe; especially, for people like us who prefer to travel around in rental cars!

I used it to plot our trip to Germany. It can help you organize the trip to minimize your driving. If you have a GPS that you can plug into a USB port on your computer (you can get on Amazon for about $20), you can use your laptop as a GPS with driving directions in Europe. Very handy.

I have not yet used Autoroute in Europe, but I have been planning some routes and expect it to serve me well. I have used MS St & Trips for several years, and have been more than pleased. It is very similar to S&T and anticipate good congruence between software and reality. Being 2010, it should not be too out of date.

Anyone traveling to Europe should have this program loaded on their computer to help plan routes, find places of interest and popular tourist spots, as well as places off the beater path.

With all the same great features of Microsoft Streets and Trips software for the U.S., it is easy to navigate through the menus and options, which makes it very user friendly. I have used my GPS receiver from Streets and Trips with it, to track my train path as I traveled. I wouldn't want to leave home without it.

I wish there were similar software available for every country in the World, but it is just nice to have the same level of quality mapping that I am used to here, avaiable throughout Europe.

Maps are, as usual, great. The addition of Bing Maps is terrific.

Media, however, was corrupted and 'blue screened' my computer. Fortunately the media cover contained the website to download the application. Takes a VERY long time, of course.

For a vendor like Micosoft this is inexcusable. - Navigation - Driving Directions - Mapping Software - Streets And Trips'

Car Stereo - cd players, hd radio

You can't beat this product for the price.

The FM quality is very good, very clear.

I can pick up stations that I was unable to receive before (too weak of a signal--maybe my other head unit was going bad?).

The HD is very cool; crystal clear and a wider stereo effect.

Downside to HD is that it drops out when signal is weak.

4GB usb thumbdrive worked flawlessly.

The overall sound is very good, in my opinion.

I have the option to upgrade to bluetooth and sat radio as well.

I am very satisfied.

On the downside, I find the menu and buttons cumbersome.

Some of the buttons are too small, the menus are not intuitive, etc.

The remote is VERY basic.

Still, I am very satisfied.

I give it a 5 because of the price and options. JVC KD-HDR60 USB/CD Receiver with HD Radio Tuner and iTunes Tagging

I wanted this for the HD radio and USB feature first and the .mp3 CD next. The USB is awesome when used with a thumb drive. I like listening to certain pod casts and the thumb drive is the way to go while driving. When you are done you can delete the pod cast and replace it with another. I live in the Atlanta metro area and HD radio is plentiful, but like others have mentioned if the signal isn't just right you get nothing unless it is a simulcast with an analog FM station. The item description mentions something about IPOD, but I try to stay away from proprietary technology and opt for more of the open source style products.

Pros:

1) USB - the thumbdrive capability is perfect for updating music as the need/want arises and for listening to pod casts.

2) Audio (sound) quality rocks

3) .mp3 capability - both USB and CD - I have my base set of music on CD and the pod casts and changing music tastes on the thumbdrive.

4) ease of installation (it did replace a 13 yr old JVC)

5) can add satellite radio and/or blue tooth (blue tooth a definite possibility...)

6) Remote control is small, but for raising and lowering volume or changing tracks/stations it is perfect. Any additional capability would detract from driving safety. Nothing else should be done while driving anyway. My remote from the old unit is bigger and I will still be using it as I am used to all the buttons' locations.

Cons:

1) Wish I had been able to learn more first hand how well HD radio is implemented in Atlanta. The technology may just not be up to par yet. Others have mentioned about HD signals are either there or not. It is not unusual for the HD signal to fade and the audio to just drop without warning. If the stations you are tuned to is the digital version of the analog FM station it will jump back and forth so it isn't too bad. If it is the HD-2 or higher station or the HD-1 isn't matched to the analog FM then there is silence when the signal fades. It happens more than I would care for it to. I do live in an outlying area, but even when inside I-285 around Atlanta the stations will come and go.

2) JVC's customer service (I contacted them with a pre-sales question prior to purchase and am still waiting on response, 10 days ago.)

3) The wiring harness from the old unit doesn't match the new one. I would think JVC would try to keep things as compatible as possible to encourage more frequent replacements.

My cons don't affect the sound quality which is excellent. It has preset tone/equalizer settings that fit for most audio, but it also has the capability to adjust tone independently. A nice feature is the unit's ability to match to any color dash by changing the color of the lights that the unit presents. The display lights also dim when the headlights come on. I gave the unit 5 stars even though the HD radio is lacking, however that may not be a function of this radio but the HD technology itself.

After spending a couple weeks doing research on HD radio receivers (with it BUILT-IN, not "capable") at retail stores like Best Buy and online, I bit the bullet on this unit through Amazon. The unit shipped fast, and there were instructions to install (it also comes with everything necessary but the wire harness), as well as a 1 year warranty.

I bought this unit because it was the cheapest unit with all the features I wanted (HD Radio & USB), and also because I love the colors and way that radio presets are handled -- instead of there only being 6 buttons along the bottom so that each band can only have 6 presets like most other receivers, this unit just has an up and down arrow which you cycle through for each FM band, and has up to 18 presets for each -- and I use that amount! Also, the unit can auto-detect usb/aux inputs which is cool.

While I love many features of this unit, I do have a few issues...first of all, don't be sucked into all this "capable" BS. Bluetooth capable, etc means you need to purchase a $60-80 add-on; it is cheaper (and less of a hassle) to just buy a unit with bluetooth built in. Secondly, the way usb is handled is sort of...terrible. The navigation is just flat out awful (and I'm a computer scientist; I'm supposed to be good at this stuff!) and after reading the manual just realized it is easier to simply use the usb port as a charger, and then use the aux input to play audio so that I can control everything from my device (a blackberry). Sad, but it really is much simpler...Lastly, the remote is pretty basic and unneeded; still, I am not a fan of remotes for car stereos, so maybe I am just biased.

All in all, I recommend this unit, especially because of its low price. - Car Audio - Cd Players - Usb - Hd Radio'

Notebook Power Adapters - laptop charger, dell inspiron

I would recommend using this seller again. I have 2 boys that have a Dell laptop and after 6 months of purchase the chargers went out. When pricing the chargers in some of the stores I could not afford to buy 2 @ $100.

The 2 chargers I purchased from this seller works perfectly and was delivered promptly.. NEW Laptop AC Adapter/Power Supply/Charger+US Power Cord for Dell Inspiron 1318 14 1420 1425 1427 1501 1505 1520 1521 1525 1526 300m 500m 505M 510m 6000 6000D 600m 610M 630m 640m 700m 710m 8600 8600c E1405 PP23LA m600 pp22l pp25l pp29l

I ordered this for my Dell Laptop when the original one started going bad. The Dell website wanted too much for a new one and most reviews for the Dell brand cords were poor. So, I searched on Amazon and figured I would try this one which was much cheaper than others and had received some good reviews. Plus, if it turned out bad, I wouldn't be out of a lot of money. I am very pleased with this purchase. It works great and does exactly what it should plus it doesn't get hot with use like the original cord did. It's plugged into my laptop right now actually. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It arrived when it was supposed to without any problems. Excellent price, Great buy!

Purchased Nov 2010. I only paid $10 including s/h (didn't have taxes). This works awesome! The end that connects with the laptop is smooth/round instead of slightly ridgid/pentagon cut like the original/factory power chord. But still works excellent! My original one blew out due to sudden power outage in my building.

The product works just as well in charging and providing power. It doesn't have a three pronged grounded connection, but for this price its well worth it. The item arrived from the seller in exactly the correct time.

The seller(LaptopMate) I purchased this from has harassed me with multiple emails since I left them negative feedback trying to get me to change my feedback. The product itself charges fine and supplies enough power but the connections easily come loose and I have to stop frequently when the cord is moved slightly wrong to reconnect everything. I would highly advise that you look elsewhere for a better product from a more professional seller.

I sometimes forget how true the title of my review can be. I have had this charger for about a week, and it charges just fine. The issue I have noticed is that it gets really hot, and in turn, my laptop seems to heat up more than it usually does. I am a little concerned that this might have long-term consequences, but I'm not sure.

3 months ago when I first purchased this charger/adapter, I would have given it 5 stars. But now, 3 months into using it, it will no longer charge my Dell 1525. And while the product description says there is a 12 month warranty, no one seems to know how to contact the manufacturer. I've talked with Amazon multiple times about this, and since it is past 30 days, they say I need to talk to the manufacturer. But they have no contact information for them, and there is nothing on the adapter about who to call. It's manufactured by SIB, but I've yet to be able to find any current information on them. So while the price may be good, if I'm going to be replacing it every 3 months because I can't get the warranty fulfilled, it's no longer such a bargain. - Laptop Power Adapters - Dell Inspiron Adapter - Dell Inspiron - Laptop Charger'

Nike Plus Ipod - nike plus ipod, nike plus

This is an excellent product that tracks your running/walking distance, speed and calorie expenditure. I use it with my iPhone 3GS. The running data is automatically uploaded to NikeRunning website when you sync your iPhone - that allows you to monitor your progress over time and also interact with the large running community there. The device is accurate - within 1% of my measured distance. I suspect that people who are getting inaccurate readings are not attaching the device to their shoes correctly. If you do not have Nike shoe with the special pocket for the device then you should buy one of the holders available on Amazon and put the device on your laces, with the logo side up, very snugly so that it does not move and as far forward on your shoe as possible so that it captures your foot motion completely.

The best part - this seller is the only one that provides free shipping - and ships pretty fast too. Highly recommend both the device and the seller. Note that an iPhone/iPod will lock onto a sensor - so its not a good idea to track more than one sensor with the same iPhone/iPod. Apple Nike + iPod Sensor - Wireless in-shoe sensor - Apple iPhone 3G S, Apple iPhone 4

It was a perfect and cheap way to keep track of my new sport, running. It works perfect with the iPhone 4 with no additional receiver needed. The receiver is built into the iPhone 3GS and 4 already so this is all you need. Go to your settings under general and turn on Nike + and you're ready to roll. I also purchased a silicon case for this sensor so I could put it on the outside of my Asics shoeslaces.

Despite the basically nice idea and combination with iOS it is an unacceptable rip off that the battery cannot be replaced. Not only from an environmental protection perspective, as many people will sooner or later through this cadium containing part in the standard home garbage, but also from a wallet protection perspective, you'll buy a really unnecessary "built-in-obsolecense" feature I have no understanding for. I once cut open the sensor and used a 50 cent CR2032 button cell with soldering tabs. If you don't bend the accelerometer (which is nothing but a simple piezo electric buzzer) you can revive the sensor with 45 minutes of work and a 50 cent replacement part. Why can't there be a standard watch-like compartment for the battery replacement? Shame on you Nike to care so little for our environment but only for da big bucks. Not only sports should be played fair!!!

I use my sensor with my 4th generation iPod (comes with Nike+ software) and a pair of Asics. I sewed my own waterproof case to attach to my shoes (because I'm thrifty like that--read cheap, lol) and I get perfectly accurate readings. My first race of the season was a 5k and it measured exact. I've been using the sensor while training for a half marathon in a few weeks and it has been really nice to have. I only have wifi with the iPod so other running apps (like mapmyrun) need the continuous wifi to get gps signal and track the run. This, however, will track my miles without that which is essential. It's fun to have and fun to track my miles and pace without needing to do the math in my head. I haven't experienced any issues with the battery yet and I'm not aware of how long a typical battery lasts, however I do agree with the poster who mentioned that it is wasteful and annoying that they don't just create a battery replacement hatch. I'm not sure I'm as savvy as he to figure out how to crack it open and replace the battery once it dies!

Results are not accurate! The mechanism by which this thing measures distance is very unsophisticated. IT DOES NOT USE GPS technology. So, if you ran slower or faster than when you calibrated the damn thing, your readings will be off. The greater the distances you run the more your readings will be off. I would recommend Nike not sell this product until they've figured out how to make it work properly.

DO NOT buy this item. It is poorly engineered and will most likely only last you for 80 hours, at best. Mine arrived on a Tuesday. I used it twice each day during 2 hour runs. It died on Friday, after only 9 total hours of use. I placed the iPod Sensor in my new Nike+ shoe and removed it at the end of each run, as recommended by Nike to preserve battery life. Nike says it should last 1000 hours. Unfortunately, I did not heed the warnings of other buyers, who have posted similar results at other websites. Sure, $20 isn't going to break the bank, but Nike isn't helping its image with this useless piece of junk. I could've asked the vendor for a refund, but decided to just chalk this up to experience. The worst part is that I could not record my last run because of the Nike device failure. I was considering the purchase of the new Nike+ GPS Sports Watch, which sells for $199. As soon as I read that it also includes an optional Nike+ in-shoe sensor, I decided against it. Instead, I decided to buy a Garmin FR 210 GPS sports watch, which includes a heart monitor and in-shoe sensor. The Garmin in-shoe sensor has a replaceable battery and costs approx. $50 if purchased separately, unlike the Nike in-shoe sensor, which is in essence, a disposable unit. DON'T BUY THIS SENSOR. YOU'LL REGRET IT!! - Nike Plus Ipod - Iphone 4 - Nike - Nike Plus'

Kodak Easyshare - digital camera, kodak

I Love It. When I push the GO button there is No Hesitation. The photos of my grandkids, birds and my pets are great. The movies are good quality. You can turn off the red-eye preflash - that helps with the animal photos. It is small and light weight. It takes standard AA batteries. Great Buy! Kodak EasyShare C143 Digital Camera (Red)

I think the Camera is easy to use, but you must stock up on the double AA batteries, I like using batteries though and thats why I picked it. Got me on the share quality and although I just received today, the pictures do look good. Will post more info when I use it more, photoshare and print up copies. Happy Shopping.

I purchased this camera as a easy point and click camera for my seven year old daughter. It is a great camera for what we needed. Easy to use and the pictures are great. Sure beats the kid cameras that you can buy. It is also very reasonable in price! Would reccommend to a friend!

this camera has the fastest shutter lag and shot to shot speed I have seen in a long time, we had a real slow camera before and it would take for ever between pressing the button and actually sparking the flash and taking the picture, maybe like 3 or 4 seconds, this Kodak takes the picture fast so you can move on with your day, great price, fast delivery I got one for me and one for my wife, she loves it and our daughter now wants our cameras, I know what to get for her birth day.

I bought this camera as an inexpensive, easy to use camera that I could just throw in a pack. On the positive side, it's very easy to use. On the negative side, it makes noise while turned on and I'm concerned about it breaking quickly. I usually use Nikons but wanted a less expensive camera. If it holds up, I'll be pleased with it but the constant noise is worrying me.

I had a problem with battery that kind of froze camera completely. I used Kodak battery that came with the package and it was empty 2nd day. I e-mailed the seller and got a very quick response letting me know to use Lithium batteris. Since then i did not have any other issues with it. I am still on 1st 2 lithium batteries, taking a lots of great pictures. Highly recommended by me.

I bought 2 of these camera's for my grand children that were going to Washington DC for a spring break vacation with my son & his wife. I would say the canera's were "OK" for a 11 year old & a 7 year old. I would NEVER buy this camera for myself. My grand kids loved them but again these cameras are not the best & I would defenitly NOT buy them for a gift for an adult. - Kodak - Digital Camera - Camera Case - Camera Bag'
