African-america - teen, racism

As a high school librarian I'm always on the look out for exemplary new titles for young adults, particularly for boys. Black & White is one I'll be sharing a lot this year. Marcus and Eddie are best friends and a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. Theirs is a story of racial prejudice, character, friendship, taking responsibility, and fairness. There's a bit of romance in it, too. There is much here for kids to talk about and the book is sure to spark discussion. While the ending is hopeful, it certainly isn't tidy or predictable. Black and White (Speak)

Here's another book, I wanted to read more...more...more! What great messages the author delivered in the story. Volponi speaks of "black and white" issues, but he also goes deep into the human soul and gives guidance on how to live a content, happy life. This book could be a self-help book on dealing with the "big and small" mistakes made in life, change, stress, and growing up!

As a high school teacher-librarian, I will certainly recommend _Black and White_ to my teen readers as a fabulous read.

There are numerous quotes I admire, but my favorite is: [school office speaking to Marcus mother] "I know he's made some mistakes. But that's what adolescents do. Marcus is the type of young man who's going to learn from what he did wrong. He's going to pick himself back up and succeed. And one day, other kids from this neighborhood are going to look up to him for that." p. 131

The book is open-ended at the end. But that's okay and will leave the reader content. There will be ups and downs after the final page and much food for thought in the reader's imagination.

This is a magnificent story, it begin with Eddie Russo (White) and Marcus Brown (Black) running back to their house after they shot Sidney Parker a person they were trying to mug. They were mugging people with White's grandfather .38 caliber and they had robbed two people and accidentally shot the third guy. Then as the story progresses we find out that they had to pay their high school dues and they had their money saved up. However some new Nikes came out and everyone on the team was getting them, the two best stars couldn't be seen without them, could they? They weren't out of style, but they were out of money and desperately needed some money. So then White said "We could rob a few people to get the money and what we get we probably deserved." In the end Black is taking the heat for the chime and white seems like he's going to get off scot-free.

I believe all people of every race can and will like this book. I also believe it will effect the Blacks and White the most. It will touch everyone and give us a reality check on what the world is really like, not the fantasy everybody believes it is. My favorite part was when Black finally got hooked up with Rose (White's little sister). I believe anyone that likes basketball will also like, as basketball has an important role in this book. My question to you the reader is can people of different races really and truly get along? That's for you to decide for yourself, after you read the book.

I know plenty of present and former middle school kids who are so totally over that racial division stuff that they study about in American history and in my wife's English classes, and that people of my generation witnessed and are always telling them about.

Of course, these are all white kids living in an affluent community in the coastal hills of Northern California. Some of them have actually gotten to play in soccer leagues or on school basketball teams against more racially diverse teams in Santa Rosa and elsewhere. But I figure our tenth grader got better acquainted with more Japanese kids over her two week middle school exchange visit to their country than she has gotten to know of black kids in her entire life.

Since reading and reviewing it over the holidays, I've been dying to put together a production of Julius Lester's new, soon-to-be-award winning novel in narrative, DAY OF TEARS, but I know that casting it would probably require more young black talent than we have in Shari's middle school and the nearby high school put together.

Now, "Black and White" have seriously gotten over that race thing for real. They've lived it. Marcus Brown is a black kid from the Projects who lives with his mom and preschool-aged sister. Eddie Russo, the white son of a sanitation worker, lives across town with his parents and teenaged, younger sister Rose. Marcus and Eddie are always together as they have been forever. Ages ago they were nicknamed "Black and White", and it has stuck. They're both starting guards on a Long Island City high school basketball team that is cruising toward the playoffs. College scouts come sit in the bleachers, watch them, and salivate. But that was before IT happened.

"BLACK

"I admit it. I've been scared sh------ lots of times. But I was never as shook as when the gun in Eddie's hand went off. It thundered inside that car like the whole world was coming to an end. I never expected Eddie to pull the trigger, by accident or any other way. I guess that was a big part of it too. In all the time Eddie had that gun, we never shot it off once. It was just for show, so we could get our hands on some quick money. That's all. We never flashed it around in front of our friends or anything. It was just for us to know about.

"I was more scared for that man we shot than anything else. I didn't even know he got clipped in the head until Eddie told me later. The gun went off and I closed my eyes. I shut them so tight, I thought my eyelids would squeeze them right out of their sockets. I only opened them again to find the handle on the door, so I could get out of that car and take off running.

"That damn sound was ringing in my ears. There was no way to outrun that. I couldn't hear the air pumping in and out of my lungs, or the sound of my feet hitting against the concrete. And I didn't know that Eddie wasn't right behind me until I was halfway home, and peeked back over my shoulder. Then I looked back for him again, even though I knew he wasn't there."

So what will happen when the shooting victim ID?s Marcus from yearbook photos? What happens when Marcus comes to face a system of justice that feels like it's based on skin color and the ability to hire an attorney? What happens when Marcus's mom and Eddies parents each stop feeling supportive of their own son's friend-of-another-color? Where does the Black and White friendship go from here?

Author Paul Volponi spent years with adolescents on Rikers Island, teaching them reading and writing. He?s written one heck of a tale about two friends who thought they were cruising in the fast lane, heading for NCAA glory, and thought that differences in skin color was somebody else's problem.

Through this nail-biting story that keeps us waiting to see who is going to to pay the price for the two kids making a bad mistake, BLACK AND WHITE goes beyond the skin deep to reveal some harsh impulses and invisible walls that still exist in America today. - Teen - Racism'

Apartment Living

I've been using a Q100 / Baby Q for over 2 years now, and am still impressed by the quality of the product and what I'm able to do with it given it's small size. Here's the set up:

Q100 Grill

Weber Cart

Bulk tank adapter

5-lb. propane tank

The grill surface is large enough for a family of four. Six 1/3 lb. burgers fit well enough; more and they are hard to turn. I've also been able to do two average sized tri-tips at once. The lid isn't tall enough to allow a whole chicken. I was a bit wary of the 8K BTU rating at first, but the grill heats up just fine- it will do a wonderful sear on pretty much anything after 7-10 minutes of preheat. The heat is also very even, with the virtually whole grill surface usable. The best thing about the small burner is fuel efficiency; 5 lbs. of propane lasts all season (in SoCal!) at 1-2 uses per week. Please note that this is a single burner grill with a ring-shaped burner. Indirect cooking isn't really possible although on low heat, one can get close enough to do justice to a tri-tip.

I've only got a couple of small complaints... First, the support ring for the portable tank (at least with the Baby Q) only accepted 14 oz. propane bottles- the kind used with plumber's torches. They are more expensive than the 16 oz. bottles used for camping. I just made my own 16 oz. bottle ring out of a heavy coat hanger. Of course with the bulk tank, this is a non-issue. The 5 lb. tank (from Home Depot) is pretty small. Second, the grill is somewhat sensitive to wind. A good breeze blowing through the sides causes a definite loss of temperature above the grill surface, under the lid. Cooking is still possible but times go up about 30-40%. Last, the holes in the burner can get clogged up, especially when there's a lot of liquid pouring off the grill surface. I've had to 'unclog' parts of the burner with a push-pin a couple of times now.

Anyway, I love the product as it's about 75% of a full-size grill at 1/3 the size and 1/4 the price, within its limits (grill area). I think the only thing I'd do differently is get the version with the side tables (Q120). Weber 386002 Q 100 Portable Propane Gas Grill

For those of you wondering if this grill gets hot enough to cook steaks... well it definite does. I had looked into the more expensive unit like the Solaire Anywhere grill because of its infrared feature, but after reading about how it tends to burn and undercook everything, I opted for this Q-100. It surprisingly gets hot enough to seared 1.25" rib-eye steaks due to the heat conductive iron-cast grate. By the way, the bigger 16oz propane bottle now fits the grill without modification - it even said so in the owner's manual. Also, save yourself money by getting the Charbroil 4-foot adapter hose (model #4623) at Home Depot instead of the one from Weber. From a guy who's accustomed to grilling steaks on a Viking Ultra-Premium T-Series grill, I can say that this is a nice portable unit that doesn't sacrifice much on performance. See some sample images I uploaded.

Last year when I bought this grill, over 100 people had written 4 plus star reviews. So I took their advice and bought this grill, you can see those reviews if you look for Baby Q.

A year later I still love cooking on the Q. I cook for three plus leftovers. The heavy grate is fantastic, all the other grills had thin, flimsy grates. I love grilling with the Q, I can cook dinner in 15-20 minutes.

I hooked mine up to a 5 lb propane tank. The five lb tank is the smallest tank you can buy, I can cook for a month on it.

This grill starts out hot for 6 months, then to get it to grill hot with a propane tank... turn tank on slowly, over ten seconds, and then light grill at the end of two minutes.

Lots of people use tanks with this grill.Weber does not like it, but the support women will talk you through set up if you ask nice. The weber hot line is veryhelpful with cooking suggestions, I had a temp problem they helped me resolve, but buy the book.

Get a stop watch,a basting brush, tongs, grill brush and read the Webber grilling book. This makes a huge difference in the quality of your cooking, I mean it, follow a few directions to get sucess everytime. The weber book is worth is for the grilling time charts.

Leaving charcoal behind took me way too long... this is superior.

Support from Weber is wonderful....

So buy this grill and have fun cooking this summer.

Another year later I am still in love with my grill. The heavy cast iron grate is what makes ths grill superior to other, cheaper grills. My friends bought the cheaper ones, the food sticks, and burns on.

You must clean the grate when the grill is hot, after cooking, it takes about one minutes of scarping with the grill brush. My friends with the cheap grills never want to grill, their grills are dirty and a pain to clean. My grill is always ready to go.

I don't write many reviews, but was impressed with the Weber Baby Q.

It no longer has the retaining wire for the small gas cylinder, so accepts the larger 16oz. The cylinder doesn't flop around and seems stable without extra support. Of course, many will use with a larger tank but for those that don't, buy whichever size you want.

Some people have written they've had problems with the starter. I've only used it 4 times and 2 of those times the wind was really whipping through the porch. No trouble starting it, only took 1 click each time.

I line the inside with foil and will only change it when it gets coated. That saves some cleanup. Spraying or brushing the grill or your meat (I use olive oil) also helps and keeps things from sticking so much. GREAT grill marks on the steaks!

I thought we would miss the charcoal grill with the wood chip smoke, but I read another reviewer's hint on how to get the wood smoke. Make a tiny foil pan to fit that flat area over the spark starter. I made my little pan about 1" by 2" and maybe half inch high. Then soak your chips for the required 20-30 min (I used Mesquite chips). It worked great and we had our Mesquite smoke flavoring... and it doesn't take hardly any chips:-)

Last but not least, the steaks and burgers have tasted great!! And this is soooooo much easier than the charcoal grill, specially for doing something quick after work when you're tired.'

St - st, ipod alarm clock

Hi Folks, Let me update some of you about the confusion regarding this product. I have just phoned iHome and they gave me some new info. Look on the bottom of your unit,if your model num.says ih110b....you have the unit with NO remote and, a Radio. If you have model ih 11 then you Do have a remote and NO radio. I just purchased the model described for this listing, the IH 11 and I got the IH110b. I wanted the remote and got none. If you can not return yours to where you bought it from, and want the other model you can call iHome at 1-800-288-2792. If my store does not have unit unit I wanted originally, They told me I can send it back to them and they will send me back the correct unit. I hope this was not tooooo confusing. Thanks. iHome iH11 Alarm Clock with Dock for iPod (Silver)

This is a good Ipod alarm clock that does everything it advertises. I have to say, however, that for an extra $10-$15 dollars more the Sony Dream Machine (ICF-C7iP) does everything the iHome does but also has FM/AM radio, a larger and more attractive display, a smaller size, automatic time setting and two alarms that can be set for weekdays/weekends which makes it worth the extra to me.

It does everything it says it's supposed to...plays the radio, plays my Ipod (Itouch). Sound is decent (what do you expect out of a little box for a clock radio?), but...no presets for the radio? That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So I'm supposed to scroll through all the stations any time I want to change my mind on a station. I don't know about you, but there's about 5-6 stations that I consistently listen to and will change around when a radio is playing something I don't want to hear. Regardless of it being a clock radio where at my bedside I wouldn't be changing the station, if I bought this to go on my desk or something like that, then it would be completely pointless in my opinion. So if you really don't care about changing the station ever or scrolling through it is no big deal or you never will listen to the radio because you're only going to use this for your IPOD anyway, then you can make your decision. Just remember too that the sound is just okay.

This is a good little iPod dock. Flaw in that it is on the same frequency as the remote for my Direct TV. When I use my Direct TV remote it turns on the iHome. It works pretty well, other than that.

This Alarm clock is great, it has all the features I want: it plays my iPod loud enough for me to hear it in the morning. It also is a great speaker system in and of itself. The one problem is that when you set an alarm for a certain time (let's say 7:30 am) it doesn't start playing your iPod for a little bit (until around 7:30 and 30 seconds), but this problem has an easy solution - set your alarm to sound 1 minute earlier (7:29 am)! I recommend also setting your alarm on your iPod as well as on the iHome. Overall, this product is to use and I am so far enjoying it. Additionally, the remote control is an amazing feature, you'll find yourself using the remote for snoozing in the morning. GREAT PRODUCT and it looks good too!!

I bought the non-remote version at [...] for a bedside alarm clock and feel this has its ups and downs. As an iPod player it works well and has decent sound. As an alarm clock (the main purpose) it's not as strong.

First, I need to change the alarm time frequently since I don't go to the office at the same time every day, and the time setting either goes super fast or is quite slow -- it takes longer to set the alarm time than it should. Second, the backlit time display is not that useful if you're quite nearsighted like me -- my old alarm clock had a black background and lit time which was much easier to read. The backlit feature also makes it too bright except at the lowest setting, but then it becomes hard to read due to the low contrast between the background and time (unless you have good vision). Also the buttons are not intuitive and require some perusal of the manual -- I've seen much better button designs on other radio / music alarm clocks.

I'm too lazy to return this alarm clock but if it broke, I wouldn't buy another one.

I purchased the non-remote model (iH110) from Costco for its simple attractive design and the price was right. It functions decently as an iPod dock and has relatively good sound with the bass enhancement on. But as a bedroom alarm clock it is almost useless: 1) At volume 01, it's still too loud to fall asleep to. 2) At the dimmest setting, the backlight is too bright for the bedside. I really wanted to like this product but returned it after one night.

I bought this for my husband to use at work. He used it only a couple of times the first month saying the sound quality was good. It broke after the first month. I'm returning it and hoping it doesn't happen again.

I purchased this for my son last weekend and it works nicely. It does have a radio (FM only) and you can dim the clock display (press the snooze bar for about four different brightness levels). It does works and charges the new 4th generation ipod nanos along with the older classic, ipod mini and ipod nano models. The sound quality is fine for a small alarm clock, but don't expect Bose quality sound. There was no remote.

The entire unit works as designed, but the 4G Nano adapter isn't molded right or something so you have to use it without the adapter. That means you'll eventually bend and break something so I had to return the whole unit just because the smallest, cheapest part is probably like 1mm off.

also, the remote doesn't let you change albums, just go fwd/back by song, so you have to touch the ipod itself to do any of that. - Ipod Alarm Clock - St'

School Supplies - school supplies, home office

This is the best cap eraser I have found in recent years. The quality of the material is very good and erases w/o leaving any traces. Since the piece is made thick, it does not have any tendency to come off the pencil. I have tried store brands from Office Depot, Office Max and Staples and found them all too thin and flimsy. They come off the pencil while erasing and you have to use three or four of them for each pencil. None of that problem ever encountered with these Arrowhead Pink Erasers. Paper Mate Arrowhead Pink Cap Erasers (73015), Pack of 144

These erasers are amazing, and quite durable. I use them as the pencil toppers for my students. They have withstood several weeks so far, and there is no sign of wear & tear. I really don't have anything negative to say about these erasers, they are just down right awesome.

I bought these after being disappointed in the quality of the office supply store ones I had bought. We homeschool our two oldest and with two young kids working on handwriting everyday outside a classroom environment where pencils are used up and not lost we found ourselves using up the erasers on the pencils long before the pencil itself. These work great and eliminate the need to have the kids keep a separate eraser in front of them (and keep those big erasers off the floor where the baby can chew on them!). The price is very, very reasonable for so many and they last so long that I can't see needing to buy more in the next decade or so. They are so durable that they can be transfered from one pencil to the next for weeks. A ten pack would be ideal, plenty to last through the year but for the great price on the big box I can't complain. The only concern I have is that they may begin to get dry before we use them all so I've put them in a ziploc bag.

You can't buy these in small quantities, but frankly, if you give them in small packages to friends and family (12 of them are 50 cents, 24 of them are $1 if you're basing on this costing $6) you'll really go through them quickly. I use them for work. Erase cleanly and quickly, don't rip or tear the paper. Very little "dust", and not crumbly at all. I'll buy these again...in like, five years, when I run out.

I'm a teacher and I use them in my classroom. The cheaper pencil top erasers break the tops off very easily and don't last. I got these not expecting them to be any better but they are surprisingly well made. They are very solid feeling and don't bend and snap off like the cheaper ones do. They also stay on the pencils better. They are well worth the money since they are going to last a lot longer. Do yourself a favor and buy these over the cheap standard ones.

What can be written about an eraser? Only that these are the best pencil cap erasers around!!!!!! They're extremely durable, fit well on the pencil, don't flip off while erasing, and leave very little "eraser dust" behind. They don't leave smudges and don't tear the paper, either.

Great value for a great product! I'll keep what I need for this year and donate the rest to my class.

Highly recommend!

I used to be annoyed by trying to use store-brand erasers - yes, I'm looking at you, Staples! They were flimsy and would split and fall off the pencil after only a few uses. These Paper Mate ones are great - really sturdy, they hold on to the pencil and stay there, and they erase really well too. No complaints at all. I recommend them.

I agree with the other reviews: these are the best pencil-cap erasers I've found in recent years. I have tried all the others, including the pretty-colored ones, from grocery stores, drug stores, Target, and office supply stores--they are all too flimsy and split within weeks, even if they are just sitting on a pencil not being used--they are a waste of money! Finally I have found these pink Paper Mate Arrowhead cap erasers from Amazon.com, and even though they are made in China, they are thick, sturdy, and serviceable. They have the old-fashioned quality I remember and want. They do the job and they are well worth the modest price. What a treat it is to find these at last.

I am a homeschool mother and my kids are always using up their erasers way before the pencil. In this economy I'm looking for anyway to save money. I decided to get some erasers for the tops of the pencils. I've had some before, but the kids hated them because they broke off, split on the sides, and were hard to erase with. I just got these today and I absolutely love them. We put about 15 on our pencils and none of them split up the side. They are very heavy duty. I think my favorite part is that the tops come together in an oval shape instead of a point. The old ones we had came to a point which made erasing hard. The oval makes the top very easy to erase with and the eraser doesn't flop back and forth when erasing. They worked great the first try. Love it, love it, love it. And with 144 in the box, I should be set for a few years. - Art - Home Office - Paper Mate - School Supplies'

Dont Waste Your Money - iphone cable, ipod accessories

This cable was able to successfully charge and sync to my Macbook Pro. It is however a generic cable with no apple logo. PLEASE NOTE: This cable is very short.. 3 Inches to be exact. Maybe they ran out of wire? Seriously, it seems well made and if you need a short cable I would recommend it. White USB Data Cable for iPhone 3G, 2G, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPod Classic

Bought this cable so I could have one at work to go along with the one I have at home. Works perfectly. The only thing I would mention is that there are 2 buttons that you have to press to get the connector out of the phone. Its not exactly like the original cable where you could just pull the cable out. Its not hard or anything, just something you didnt have to do with the original cable. Other than that, fits fine and works great.

I ordered 5 cables. The order and shipping was great. I have had one of the cables just fall apart where the cable meets the connector end that goes into the iPhone. I can not complain too much because it is A LOT cheaper than buying actual ones from Apple or their retailers. If the cable had not gone bad already, I would have given this 5 stars.

I have to rate this the worst purchase I have ever made on Amazon thus far because the seller intentionally displays the wrong image for the product, and while the product somewhat serves the functionality, it is bulky, and not what I ordered.

Very disappointed!

-Ehsan

Hi I'm 13 years old. I had an IPod touch cord that broke and wouldnt work so I tried a bunch of different places to get a cheap cord but they never worked. Then I found this product. It seemed to look fine online. And when it came in the mail I was elated and surprised to see that they cords were actual apple ones.(I ordered two) Currently the cords are working out fabulous and soon I'm going to buy more before there gone. So I strongly recommend this cord to you.(:

I ordered three of these last week. So far I have tested two of them and they work perfectly (on an iphone 3Gs as well as an old school nano... I think 2nd gen). They are authentic (or at least look authentic enough to fool an avid mac user) and printed with "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China". A few reviewers mentioned the cable is short. All of mine came with the regular length. Pretty content with only needing to pay $1.25/item instead of $20 in the store! - Ipod Accessories - Usb - Ipod Touch - Iphone Cable'

Battery Charger - airsoft

I just purchased this smart charger 6 months ago now and it didnt give any problem charging my batteries for my airsoft guns. My only advise is I just notice that if u have a battery that have 1200 mah 8.4 volts you have to set your smart charger to 0.9a not to 1.8a. When i accidentally set this in 1.8a my battery it gets hot quickly so i switch it back to 0.9a. For all your airsofters lovers this product is fits for your needs and fast charging too. Tenergy Smart Universal Charger for NiMH / NiCd Battery pack 7.2V - 12V with charging current Selection/Temperature Sensor

I bought this to charge the 7.2v batteries for this r/c tank I bought my teenager - 1/16 German Tiger Air Soft Rc Battle Tank (Upgrade Version w/ Metal Gear & Tracks).

I also bought this Ni-MH battery upgrade for the tank listed above - Tenergy 7.2V 3800mAh Flat NiMH High Power (38A Drain Rate) Battery Pack with Tamiya Connector for RC Cars and Sumo Robots.

The nice thing about this charger is that it is designed to charge the battery fully, then stop, since it has an integral temperature sensor that is put against the battery pack to turn it off if the battery pack heats up.

It's also able to automatically detect the proper charging voltage, from 7.2v to 12v, and it has a selector designed to adjust the output amperage for the given capacity of battery pack.

The selector is set to the 0.9A position for packs with capacities ranging from 900mAh to 1800mAh, and set to the 1.8A position for packs with capacities ranging from 1800mAh to 5000mAh.

One note is that this charger cannot be used with packs with capacities below 900mAh or above 5000mAh, but those are basically non-existent.

The charger's default plug is the standard Tamiya connector, and it also comes with two adapter plugs.

One of the adapters allows it to charge basically any type of battery having exposed posts using the two alligator clips on the adapter.

The other adapter converts the standard Tamiya connector down to the mini Tamiya connector.

The charger also comes with two spare fuses.

Not a bad deal, and it works perfectly.

i bought this charger for the ultra spike dino. I bought the toy at a yardsale but it didn't have the charger. one's on ebay were going for like $100.00 or more for the brand name charger. but this universal charger worked just fine. The two prongs hook clamp right into the battery and it charges all the same as the brand name. So don't be a sucker and buy a more exspensive one this one works great!!!

Works like it is supposed to. No frills - just charging. Would be nice if the temperature sensor had an elastic or velcro band to keep it attace to the battery. I just use electrical tape or a rubber band.

i'm using this for my 7.2 batteries i use for my RC Cars. It takes about 2.5 hours to charge a 3800mah battery. I like how it has 2 settings for various sets of batteries capacities.

Note it says in the manual it will only work for batteries between 900mah and 5000mah, anything more than that they said not to use this charger. This charger also has an auto shutoff that turns off after 4 hours. - Airsoft'

Water Resistant - exercise, distance

I am constantly buying new pedometers to find one that really works. This will probably be the last one I ever buy. It is fantastic. It is incredibly accurate, and works well no matter how or where I wear it. It is easy to change the stide length between running and walking. It just takes a small stick. I walk a measured distance and after the first mile the Omron was within 20 feet of being accurate. Fantastic over a distance of 5,280 feet. I really like the fact that it does not start counting until after 4 seconds of walking. And then it picks up those first four seconds when it does start. This way it does not count the steps from my computerr desk to the printer. It also does not count steps while I drive. The other units I used were all county the bumps in the road as I drove my car as steps. This one does not do that. It is small and easily fits in your pocket. No need to clip it on your belt. Highly recommend it as the last one you will ever need. Omron HJA-301 Pace and Distance Tracker, Yellow - Walking - Exercise - Running - Distance'

Organic Vitamins - womens vitamins

I have been taking this vitamin for a couple of months...and it does seem to help with my overall sense of well being. The capsules are easy to swallow and not large...and don't fight back as some vitamins seem to do. The only draw back is you need to take 4 for a full dose of vitamins....and it lacks calcium...yet it does contain 1000 iu of vitamin D. I plan to reorder.. Rainbow Light, Women's Organic Multivitamin, 120-Count

I had purchased these vitamins at a local organic grocery store and loved how they made me feel. I have more energy and feel so much better. I mentioned them to my trainer who is also my nutrition coach and she asked me to order her some!!! I now get them for my husband and daughter as well. You can't beat the price on Amazon!

I was thrilled to find an organic, vegetarian option with this vitamin's profile, and I've been even happier since they arrived. I am not the world's best pill taker, and these gel caps are fabulously easy to swallow. I maintain a pretty good diet, so two capsules feels just right. Don't be alarmed if your, um, urine is discolored at first. I noticed a neon yellow thing going on for awhile (at all times of the day, with a hefty water intake) but after several weeks on the vitamin this has disappeared.

Love this organic multivitamin. I tried a sample at a natural foods store and thought it was great. This is a good price, too. The best part is that they want you to take 4 pills to equal one dose, but there is way more than I need in 4 pills. I can take one per day and this bottle lasts 4 times as long.

I like this vitamin because it does not contain soy, which is hard to find. The two drawbacks I have are you have to take 4 capsules for a full dose and the pills need to be taken with a lot of water or else I find they stick in my throat. That being said, they are gentle and one of the only soy-free organic vitamins on the market. - Womens Vitamins'

Christopher Mintz-plasse

What a wacky movie this is. When I first saw the previews, I thought this Kick-Ass was going to be aimed at kids and teens. Boy was I way off, because it earns it's R rating many times over. I really had no intention of seeing this film until I saw the very positive reviews flowing in from the critics. Not that I always agree with them, but in this case I would like to thank them for getting my butt down to the local theater today.

Parts of the movie reminded me of Watchmen. You have everyday people who are sick of bad things happening to good people, decide to put on costumes, have funny hero names, and then beat and cut apart the bad guys in a not so nice way. I actually thought it was rather tame in the gore department, compared to what I read about beforehand, but the violence and language is way too strong for kids.

The acting is good from everyone. I liked newcomer Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass himself. Nicolas Cage turns in one of his better performaces in a long time, though I think he was great in an over-the-top kind of way in The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is still doing his McLovin thing in every movie since Superbad, but it worked again. Mark Strong is kind of one note as the villain, like in Sherlock Holmes, but I think he's a little better in this role. The real star of the show is little 11-year-old, Chloe Moretz, as Hit-Girl. She is clearly the most memorable thing in a movie with a bunch of stuff worth remembering. As the daughter of Cage's Big Daddy hero, she spews out bad language, slices and shoots baddies by the dozens, and loves her daddy. I want one of my own.

Kick-Ass is serious in tone most of the time, but there are some killer comedy bits and lines that had the whole theater erupting with laughter. The music is well placed in key scenes and the director/writer, Matthew Vaughn, did a fine job in creating a comic book film that should please both fans and non-fans of the genre alike.

Even though it looks like Kick-Ass will come in #1 this weekend, it still feels more like a cult film to me. I can easily see this movie being talked about decades from now, much like Army of Darkness, but without the campiness factor. What a breath of fresh air in a genre that has just as many misses as it does hits. Kick-Ass

Just like the rest of you, I went into the theater knowing not a whole lot about this movie. I thought it would be lame, cheesy, corny, *insert adjective here*. But, I was DEAD wrong to say the least. Kick-Ass combines action, comedy, and emotion, all at the right times. The movie flows well mainly because the cast jives so well together. I have yet to come out of a movie theater so pumped and wanting more than after I came out of Kick-ass

Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass)- I didn't realize he was a British actor until I heard a voice clip from an interview. You sure can't tell from the movie. He plays a great nerdy type kid. But what separates him from actors like Michael Cera is that he actually grew some balls and decided to stand up to crime. He does a great job as the lead actor in the first half of the movie, but quickly gets overshadowed by young dynamo, Chloe Moretz

Nicholas Cage (Big Daddy)- In my eyes, he redeemed himself for movies like Ghost Rider and Knowing. He was amazing. His character was totally believable and I sure enjoyed his Adam West mannerisms. He also did his fair share of ass kicking. His relationship with his daughter, Hit-Girl, brought hilarity and the emotion that I mentioned earlier to this movie.

Lyndsey Fonseca (Katie Deauxma)- Hadn't seen her in a movie before. She is very beautiful and will be looking forward to seeing her in the sequel.

Chris Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist)- As much as I don't want to say it, Chris is out growing his McLovin' character. He, like Kick-Ass, plays a slightly awkward superhero with no powers. He fills his part well and has plenty of laugh out loud lines.

And, the best for last:

Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl)- I honestly don't even know where to start with this girl. I would say she gives the performance of her life, but she was only 11 at the time of filming. She underwent 6 months of combat, acrobatic, and weapons training for her role as Hit-Girl in this movie. It paid off big time. Chloe does all her own stunts (minus 2) in the movie, which is insane. She is foul mouthed and bloodthirsty, but also has her kid moments. I don't understand the controversy with her character. She is very mature and thus should be able to do more mature roles. If you're not planning on seeing this movie, rethink, mainly because of this girl right here. She is incredible and will no doubt be the new Angelina Jolie when her time comes.

Overall, great movie. Great cast, great fight choreography, great soundtrack, and a great setup for a sequel! (Which has been announced)

See this movie, and then tell all your friends! It's totally worth the 2 hours of your time.

The film is based on a comic book by the same name. The rights to the story were sold before the book was even published (it debuted only eight weeks before the film):

A teenage boy decides to take a stand for justice. He dons a green scuba costume and names himself Kick-Ass. However, not having any actual superpowers, this hero's good intentions quickly land him in an ICU. Eventually though, Kick-Ass crosses paths with a couple of far more effective (a.k.a. deadly) heroes: Big Daddy, a former cop falsely convicted of drug trafficking, and Hit-Girl, his eleven year old daughter. Big Daddy has spent the past six years training his little girl in all forms of mortal combat, hoping she would help him revenge her mother's death and her father's fall from grace, orchestrated by a local Mafia Boss. Enter blood, gore, and plenty of belly laughs...

Let me get straight to the point: yes, the film was funny and highly entertaining. However, initially I felt uneasy laughing at an eleven year old girl determinedly slaughtering a roomful of men, even if they were rotten to the core and disserving of every bullet and of every knife wound. But then, I remembered what I was like at that age: it was the early 80's. My favourite toys were a silver colt revolver and a sword. Depending on my mood, I would pretend to be a cowboy taking on a bunch of wild Indians, or a Jedi disarming (literally) Darth Vader and his evil cohorts. So, if any of you want to believe that little girls' minds are all about sugar and spice, well... good luck with that (by the way, I managed to grow into adulthood WITHOUT slipping into drugs and/or alcohol, and no, I was not a teenage mother). And so, that quick recollection gave me the permission to look at the film as an absurd exercise in fantasy and allowed me to enjoy every minute of it. Yes, the film was well written, directed and edited, but the special mention must go to the actress who portrayed Hit-Girl. Chloe Moretz was indeed eleven at the time of filming, but had the presence of a seasoned performer. I am looking forward to watching her future projects. There is already talk of a sequel. I'd pay to see it!

Laugh and enjoy!'
