Automotive - mount, cellphone

This mount looks good and probably works great for most phones, but with my just-released Android Incredible the cradle part covers up the power jack on the phone. I could not find a way to use the phone in the cradle with the power cord, and one reason I bought the phone was for the Google navigation software that comes with it. Arkon Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Console Mount for Mobile Phones and Smartphones (Black)

It doesn't extend as far as the droid incredible mount that I had but considering the case I have for my phone and the fact it is a G1 it is probably a good thing it doesn't have the second arm extension.

The cup is great, the arm is sturdy and while it is a universal mount it is pretty low profile.

Love it!

I was quite happy with the product until it completely broke in less than two months of very little use. The temperatures weren't too low or too high so I don't think this is a case where temperature caused the material to fail.

This is a very well-designed car mount for my phone. I use it for my iPhone 4 with an otterbox impact case to mount my phone when using the GPS. A detail I would like to include is that the vice-grip has a maximum width of 3 inches and a minimum of 1 5/8 inches-I wanted to know that before I bought it because I wasn't positive it would fit my particular phone's case. All adjustments can be clamped tightly. The vice-grip has rubber padding which holds the phone securely and ratchets in place securely, being released by an ergonomically placed button on the back.

While I didn't use it, this also comes with a plate with a sticky side that can be attached to your dashboard as a suction surface to attach the mount.

Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for. I was so impressed by how well-designed it was that I thought I would leave a review.

I have tried several different mounts before. I bought this one to see how it worked and just how stable it was. Received mount and tried it. Very easy to put together and apply to windshield. Once in place it stays there. It is very stable. I have used it for my cell and a smaller GPS. I was so pleased I bought 3 more.

I love this product, I use it with my iPhone everyday on the way to and from work (got about an hour commute each way). I use it in dash-mounted style, and the mount piece adhered to my dash very solidly. The suction has fallen off twice, but since that started to happen, I now make sure that if i have to take it off for some reason that I wet the suction cup a little before i put it back on and it stays on there solid. Everything works like it should except there was a pretty important oversight in my opinion and others have also commented on it. The iPhone charger plug does not fit in between the bottom 2 supports. To get around this you can just have the shoulders of the plug sit above the supports and rest on top of them and the holder will still hold your phone decent. But its just awkward and with how prevalent iPhones are in the consumer world, i just think this should have been a standard consideration when designing this product. If it wasn't for that, I would have given it 5 stars. Quick release is great, nice product overall.

I really like this mount. I own a blackberry curve and have it stored in a hard shell case. The mount secures it without a problem. It works great when I use my phone as a navigation device, rotation of mount allows for a perfect view of unit. Strong construction

This mount works very well. A mount specifically built for your phone is nice, but it doesn't allow you to keep the case on. This universal design allows me to easily secure my phone while it's still in the case and connect the micro usb so I can connect to my stereo. The suction cup is very strong and the adjustable points stay secure once tightened. I also like the option of being able to swivel my phone if needed.

I haven't used the supplied dash pad, but hope it will stay on a vertical surface. - Universal - Mount - Windshield Mount - Cellphone'

Strength Training - fitness, weights

If you're looking around for some wrist/ankle weights, these are a good choice. Here's what I like the most about them:

-they're adjustable. This is clearly their best feature and saves you having to buy multiple weights of different increments. No need to buy a 1lb weight, then a 2lb weight, and then a 3 as you get stronger on an exercise- with these, you just take out or add what weight you need

-the price is comparable to other cuff weights and a cheap means overall of doing exercises where you need added weight

-they're portable enough that one could throw them in the car when traveling

For me, this is the way to go if you're looking for some cuff weights to go along with your home exercises. A word of caution- while it says "10 lb adjustable weights", that doesn't mean each cuff is 10 lbs- rather each cuff is a made up of five, 1lb cylinders for a total weight of 5 lbs for EACH cuff.

Good for general fitness or home physical therapy exercises, they're a great little product. Also recommend Treat Your Own Tennis Elbow for those looking for a good resource on tennis elbow. Valeo AW10 10-Pound Adjustable Ankle / Wrist Weights

I have also purchased weights called 'The Cuff' & another brand - but they don't compare to the Valeo weights. Not only can you remove individual weight packets from each weight attachment - but the entire design is SUPERIOR: Valeo weights close with a 'D' ring plus velcro straps, so the straps don't stick out (I wore a rubber band around the other designed weights to hold the strap down, lest it catch on something &/or come loose) & the Valeo's are SECURE & SAFE! They stay exactly where I put them around my ankles when I walk through brush, etc. The Valeo's don't twist or loosen, regardless of what I'm doing. I would recommend these over all the just 'wrap around velcro straps' closures, without the 'D' ring design, to everyone considering buying any wrist or ankle weights. Don't waste money on the inferior designs (that actually cost MORE!).

I'm male, 5ft-5in (165cm), 130lbs (60kg). I use these Valeo AW10 weight as ankle weights. I also have similarly designed weights which use cast iron inserts, but for use as ankle weights I prefer these Valeo weights, as the softer inserts are much more comfortable.

When tightened snugly against bare flesh, the 10-lb cast iron ankle weights dig painfully into the top of my foot, and the bones of my ankle. I also wear these Valeo weights "upside-down" so the thick bottom seam doesn't dig into my foot. (Don't worry... the inserts aren't going to "slip out".)

The Valeo AW10 weights fit me snugly enough, but I have them about as tight as they CAN be closed, and the smaller diameter of my ankles is probably similar to an average-sized female, so smaller women may have trouble with them slipping. I don't think anyone smaller than a large male could possibly use these as wrist weights.

Overall, I have been satisfied with the design and construction of these Valeo AW10 Ankle/Wrist weights.

These are terrible...once you take the "weight" out of the pocket, it's virtually impossible to put it back in...the strap broke after i used it twice, and the actual removable weight leaks some disgusting black stuff that got all over my floor...not recommended at all!

I am a cross country runner. In the midst of the season, I decided to get into 5:30 min a mile speed.

In order to do so, I decided on an ankle weight purchase that could help build both strength and stamina.

For my ankle, these are very nice.

---Comfort---

I do not know why people are saying that this is uncomfortable.

Material feels like that of a North Face vest. It feels nice and I feel great jogging with them although

I had to get used to the feeling of extra weight.

---Weight Adjustment---

Adjusting weight is little bit tedious but not as bad as some review points out.

Only thing that bothered me was the strong stickyness of the wrapping belt? which I had a hard time trying to open.

Weights were consisted of sand material, thus, pulling it out and putting it back wasn't that difficult to do.

HOWEVER, I must point out that when you are adjusting weight to 2~4 pounds, you must make sure you positioned it on your ankle so that

it feels balanced. Otherwise, it will feel unbalanced and will move during running in terrains.

---Wrist...---

This is not a wrist weight. You must buy a wrist weight if you want to use it for your wrist.

You could wrap around your wrist, but it will feel awkward.

Also, you cannot have five pound on your wrist because unless your arm is big as body builders, it will not fit in your wrist.

I have a decent sized forearm and four lbs was the maximum weight I was able to tightly fit on my wrist section of forearm.

---Overall Conclusion---

This is a good buy and probably one of the best bang for the buck weights.

Quality feels durable and I felt like I would purchase this product again.

However, I gave it a four star due to poor description (each weight is 5lbs/pair not 10lbs/pair)

and poor usability as a wrist weight.

For ankle weights, this is perfect for any type of trainers, athlete, or regular exercising.

While these weights are okay (and not all that uncomfortable), the write-up and information is very misleading. The weights are billed as 1-5 pound adjustable. There are actually 1/2 pound weight packets and to get 5 pounds you have to wear both belts at one time. Each weight is 2 1/2 pounds max. I was looking for 1-5 pounds for each ankle and this isn't it. If the description had been more accurate, I would have ordered other weights. - Weight Training - Fitness - Weights - Adjustable Ankle Weights'

Makita 18v Battery Nimh - makita 18v battery nimh, makita

My old 18V Makita NiMH batteries finally came to the end of their useful lives, as they wouldn't hold a charge (mine were the old 2.2Ah, opposed to the 2.6Ah that's now offered - definite improvement in battery technology). As mentioned by other raters, the batteries will fail over time (the batteries will last about two to three years of regular usage). I did find it very odd that if you purchased the batteries separately, it costs less than purchasing the same batteries in a paired set (Amazon had offered at the time of this review for $106.92 for a set (Makita 194158-6 1834 18-Volt 2.6 Amp Hour NiMH Pod Style Battery, 2 Pack), as opposed to $48.80 each). I found Amazon's pricing for the replacement batteries to amongst the least expensive for these brand new batteries (the free shipping and no sales tax sealed the deal for me). Makita 193159-1 1834 18-Volt 2.6 Amp Hour NiMH Pod-Style Battery

When your 18 volt NIMH battery pack grows tired from too many charges (which invariably all NIMH batteries do), it's time to order some new packs. My old ones wouldn't hold a charge long enough to finish a job, now my new ones do. Makita 18V NIMH packs are great, durable, and charge quickly. Excellent product from a maker of durable pro quality power tools. Also, my order that saved me money through Amazon came within four days and I was up and running in no time. Great service.

The makita line of tools is always at the top of my list when i look for a new tool. I might have to pay a little more up front but they last longer and perform better and that ends up saving me time and makes me more money! Charles Irwin master woodworker and stair installer for titan stairs Las Vegas Nevada.

I am shopping for my 7th (and maybe 8th) Makita 18v 2.6 Ah batteries. I bought a combo pack of circular saw, reciprocating saw, drill, and flashlight seven years ago to replace my 4+ year old DeWalt 14.4v set which was malfunctioning. Since I absolutely had to have a hammerdrill for drilling in block and concrete, I also bought a hammerdrill. Total number of batteries: four and two chargers. The four lasted only four years. I expected more, since the DeWalt NiCd's lasted that long, but I stopped by a Makita reapir shop in Dayton, NJ to have the 18v circular saw shoe plate aligned, and the service guy really sold me on Makita. Bought a two pack of 18v #1834 Makita NiMh batteries and after two years 10 months, one is shot and the other still going, but doesn't hold a charge as well as it used to.

The good news is that every one of the Makita power tools is running strong even after being abused for seven years. I use them hard and sadly have abused them a bit. (dropped the Recip. saw and drill in a lake on two different occasions while installing bulkheads - no problem! I use them in the rain often.)

So I think the batteries deserve only a 3, but the tools are 5+ out of 5.

p.s. My daughter's 9.6v long handle drill is over 12 years old and works perfectly, and the two original NiCd batteries are weaker, but still work.

The price of the Makita 18 volt 2.6 amp battery is a great price, but, the age of the battery is my bigest concern. The last two digets of the serial # is the age of the Makita battery. I would insist on knowing the age of the battery befor placing the orders. How do I get this info. before ordering.

This window shows an 18 volt Makita Battery right down what my original battery looks like. If you click the second image, it shows a packaged 14 volt unit. My real life situation is one step worse. They advertised a slightly used 18 volt unit. their confirmation info indicated a 14 volt unit and the reseller sent me a 12 volt unit. Yo make matters worse the.....how do I get out of this mess and my money back part of this should be put forth immediatly like Tiger Direct or E-bay does rather than imbedding it into info. that takes a coupple of e-mails to get to the resolution.

Never thought that the products purchased online, where really very reliable, but I was certainly wrong. This product is every bit as good as any that has been purchase in the retail stores. A great product and I have used it quite a bit already, easily reacharged and ready to go. - Power Tools - Makita 18v Battery Nimh - Makita - Cordless'

Playstation Eye - move, motion control

The Motion Controller and the PS Eye are the minimum needed to bring 'Move' to a any PS3 console. No exceptions. If you already have a PS Eye then the controller alone is the only purchase necessary. On the other hand, to fully enjoy certain games, you may want TWO Move Controllers.

It's hard not to be impressed by the Move. While I can't see how the Move's Motion Controller can become PS3's 'main' controller, I believe that it's going to find lots of good uses and hopefully in hard-core games and in the RPG games that I'm usually playing.

SETUP

Press the PS button. If the controller is charged... you're done.

Of course, to do anything useful, you WILL need a PS Eye camera and maybe a game :). You CAN use the controller to navigate the PS3 XMB menus but it may take some getting used to - I am still reaching for the DualShock.

MOVE'S MOTION CONTROLLER

The Wikipedia has a very thorough review of the technology inside the controller - impressive. It's probably worth going there to get an idea of what's under the hood.

From a user's point of view, the Move could be viewed as approximately the right side of the DualShock 3 where the motion tracking function is the R3 analog stick, R1 is the MOVE button and the R2 becomes the Move's T(rigger). You also get the 4 Square/Circle/X/Triangle, in a square (not 'diamond') formation, the PS button as well as the START and SELECT. So far, the most used buttons during gameplay were the MOVE and the T(rigger).

In addition, you get a wrist strap. At the opposite end of the microphone or thick wand-shaped Move there's a USB Mini-B port for charging and another port that seems to be proprietary - must investigate.

The controller is quite substantial as far as both size and weight - I like that and liked its being shaped in a way that makes it easy to grab and hold. Very much like a microphone or a very thick magic wand; NOT a remote control.

Based on my experience so far, Move's ability to track your motions far surpasses anything that I'm aware of in the gaming universe. Every single movement, up/down, left/right, toward/away and wrist rotation are accurately captured and almost instantly reflected on the screen and so is acceleration that would usually translates as 'force' in games such as sword fights or ping pong. In addition, there is haptic (tactile/rumble) feedback, a little too weak in the games I played so far, making the gaming experience that much more realistic.

I am not writing a lot about the Eye camera because... it's just there and it's not the subject of this review. For as long as it can see you, it simply does its part so that you may enjoy your game.

PLAYING

I've tried so far everything in the Champions game and one puzzle game demo downloaded from the PSN. Our little girl is playing the Eye Pet demo and my boys are playing mostly the sword fight and the archery games in Sports Champions. Considering that Sports Champions is an early game, my expectations were not that high but, surprisingly, Ping Pong did meet my expectations. I've been playing real Ping Pong ever since I was 11 or 12 so I probably know what I'm talking about and the Move version of Ping Pong is GOOD. As for the others... sword fight, kids like it. Archery was okay, Bocce was so-so, Frisbee Golf not too bad. Three of the six Champions events benefit significantly from using TWO Motion controllers.

For the games I've played so far, this is NOT a couch experience. On the Sports events I was sweating after a few minutes and I had to get off the couch and stand up even when playing the puzzle because of its depth element. This is probably a good thing.

I am sorry for having to do this but, absent 'hard core' games, the only comparison I can make is between Move and Wii and... to put it VERY mildly, the Wii shows its age when placed next to the Move. Except for it lacking a built-in speaker, the Move controller is ahead of Wii in every single respect: precision, responsiveness, ergonomics. The fact that the Eye camera can and in certain games DOES track your body not just the controller helps too. Of course, the Wii has the games but the Move games should be coming fast so I'm not worried.

MY RATING

It's 5 stars for the technical merit, ease of setup and for the overall experience. Hopefully, the games will be coming quickly and in good quality. Playstation Move Motion Controller

It's a shame that Sony's new motion controller Move is so much compared to the Wii. Aside from the basic principles, Move is a lot different than the Wii. And if you ever played Wii and then pick up Move, you'll quickly be able to tell the difference. The accuracy with this thing is out of this world. It follows the wand with 1:1 motion and no lag at all(not yet anyway) And you can go into 3D space, like going into the the picture and grabbing something out, something the Wii couldn't do. But this review isn't about the Move VS Wii, so I'll shut up. I've played Sports Champions and Start the Party and some demo games, and this controller is perfect. It's built solid and it feel good in your hand. The glowing orb on top is actually pretty cool, but it's not just for looks, it actually has a purpose, and it's purpose is to help the camera follow the controller by following the light. This controller is still very new so I can't note on reliability, but I'm sure it's great giving it's from Sony.

After having bought the PS3 move all I can say is amazing at how easily it's to use and how incredibly it reads the hand and arm motions of the player while you are playing a game. The Wii motion Plus when it came out was suppose to help fix the wii remotes sometimes unsteady reading of the Wii remote motion during gameplay but even than it really didn't seem that much of a vast improvement, but with the PS3 move as you play the gladiatorial fights and archery or just playing ping pong reading the wrist movements and the location of the motion controller is vastly superior especially if you've just played a Wii game and start playing this a couple of hours later. Setting up the motion controllers is also vastly easier than the Wii remotes just use the usb hookup when you turn on your console and motion controller than go to the accessory settings on the PS3 and you'll see the motion control calibration setup to begin and within a few seconds you're set to go. It does seem a little more fun though if you have two motion controllers for some of the games on the Sports champion one, notably the Gladiator and archery one for the most part but not truly necessary to play the games if you just want to have one or just only bought one. So for the great price for this is it worth getting?, I definitely say yes while some have called it a clone of the Nintendo Wii I feel it's vastly more than just that with all it's been able to do and the great enjoyment you're sure to get while playing with the PS3 move as well... - Playstation 3 - Video Games - Move - Motion Control'

What is there to say about a battery? It takes a charge and it delivers power. This particular model lasts a very long time. The impulse guns must not require much power to operate because these will drive several thousand nails before dying. My only complaint is that they are expensive compared to other batteries . At the same rate a 12v would be a hundred bucks. Paslode Cordless Battery

Loyal paslode customer own approx. 10 cordless guns, approx 12 oval batteries, 8 of the batteries have came apart at the clip. The top of the battery comes completly off when you put it in the gun. Have to use black tape to hold the batteries together. Don't have much choice I need a battery to fire the guns trying to find other options. Any sugestions?

I picked up a spare battery for my Paslode since I use it at our remote cabin and charging batteries is a bit of an ordeal. There's not too much to say about the battery itself, works like you'd expect. The battery doesn't have to do much in the gun (runs a cooling fan and fires the spark plug), so it lasts a long time on one charge.

the battery came on time and is working just fine

BUT MY ORDER FOR GLEEM TOOTH PAST HAS NOT COME IN - IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE IN AROUND JULY 19TH NOW FOR NO REASON GIVEN IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF AUG.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Battery Backup - sony alarm clock radio, alarm clock

Not the niftiest, nor the most elegant clock radio available but the price and features make it about as good a buy as you'll find.

All the important features - battery backup, automatic time synch, intuitive alarm setting, good (but gentle on the eyes) time visibility.

There's a dual alarm version available for a few bucks more too.

We liked this one enough to buy another for our guest bedroom - guests won't be befuddled by this model...

BTW, radio isn't high fidelity but its not bad, a good Sony quality product.

UPDATE 10/28/09: Two years down the road and the two of these radios we bought are still going strong. One of the things I failed to mention in the original review was that this unit does NOT, repeat, does NOT have a power brick - just a nice old fashioned wall plug on a wire - sweet. I take note of the comment by others about the intensity (or lack thereof) of the clock LED. Myself, and upon further inquiry, my wife find the intensity to be 'just right'. Perhaps there is some variation in the units or maybe its just a matter of your sleeping environment. We're former Sierra Nevada 'country' folks who now live on the edge of a small Ohio town. Between the street light, the neighbor's lights, the wifi router and a couple of those green 'limelite' nightlights we DO have sufficient ambient light at night to move around without stubbing the old toes. BTW, I've dropped both of our units more than once, and accidentally kicked one across our guest suite - no discernable damage. Oh yes, the wife says that they'd show the dust less if they were white. Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black)

I've had this for 3 days now, and i'm very happy with it...and i put alot of research in everything i buy. The Radio works perfectly, picks up all the stations clearly, the alarms sound starts out soft and gets progressively louder..so you will get up. The Built in battery is also a plus, that way i'll never lose track of time.

for this price this is a great product..and oh yes huge green lights for the display and many more features...wake up to the radio or the buzzer...

enjoy....

Unfortunately, I am not able to rate the Sony ICF-C218 as highly as my colleagues. Not that this clock radio doesn't have numerous good features. The radio got good reception and the sound was of better than average quality. The controls, as others have pointed out, are intuitive and easy to use even without ever resorting to the instructions. The alarm, as is common, can wake you up either with the radio or with a buzzer. The only missing feature that would have been nice would be a dual alarm, though for the price this lack cannot be complained of.

The problem with the unit, and it is a serious one, is the brightness of the display. Of the other two reviewers who've rated the ICF-C218 at three stars, curiously one complains that the display is too dim and the other that it is too bright. My experience agrees with the later. I didn't notice until I tried sleeping beside this unit, but once your eyes are accustomed to the darkness the nicely-sized display is simply far too bright. It casts shadows on my ceiling and was a distraction when trying to fall asleep; I was forced to angle it away from myself or face the opposite direction. This is simply inexcusably poor design in an alarm clock and is a deal breaker for me; I'm going to be returning my unit.

A more minor complaint would be the AM/PM indicator. Most clocks have a single light that is lit when it is post meridiem (or ante meridiem, depending on the model), but this one has two lights, one about 7 mm above the other, which indicate morning or afternoon. That's fine when the room is light and you can read the AM or PM text next to the two lights, but at night you'll simply have to remember which light is above the other one and how far each is from the top of the display. Not a big deal for most, but another small design flaw.

This isn't a bad clock for the price (Wal-Mart carries it for even less, $9.96) but the brightness issue makes it unusable for me. The addition of a dimmer switch, fixing the AM/PM indicator, and adding a second alarm setting would make this clock easily a five star item, even at a slightly higher price.

I was so happy with this purchse, it really has a lot for such a small price. As soon as I pluged it in within seconds it had not only set the time but the date too. It small enough to fit on the night stand, easy to set for the alarm, and it has great reception on the radio. I live in an area where there are so many trees you have to go outside to get cell service. I have several Sony radios and cd players in the house and they are the only brand I have not had a problem in getting great reception on FM and AM, and they have such incredible sound......

This is just about as basic as you can get. A great clock at a great price. I've had many different clocks in my life, but here's why this clock was above the rest.

1. Easy ON/OFF buttons. If you want to quickly check the volume of the radio before setting the alarm, it is very easy

2. Fantastic alarm setting "toggle switch". So many clocks make it long and tedious to set the alarm. You just toggle the lever left or right, and the alarm is set in seconds. VERY helpful.

3. Great reception - The FM radio uses the power cord as an antennae.

4. Internal battery - Power outages won't mess you up in the morning.

There are other good reasons to list, but these were the best things I've seen. One of the best $10 I've spent.

I plugged it in and it knew the time. It has an installed lithium battery so a power drop won't cause it to flash 12:00 at you. You will have to adjust a single setting if you are not on East Coast time. Setting the alarm is as easy as toggling left or right to increase or decrease the time. It is very quick and zooms through until you let off. It is very intuitively designed and fast to change the alarm time.

I purchased this for eleven bucks delivered through Amazon Prime. This is an incredible bargain for a very well thought out alarm clock. If you want practical, this is it. If you are looking for a dazzling home audio experience at 6:00 in the morning, you need to keep looking. - Clock Radio - Alarm Clock - Sony Alarm Clock Radio - Battery Backup'
