Universal Remote - remote control extender, universal remote

I recently upgraded my TV to 52" flat screen LCD/LED and had a custom cabinet made to hide all my stuff. The cabinet came out great with all my components, players, Xbox, Medic Center PC, cable box underneath and behind solid doors. Problem is when you shut the doors the remotes (aside for the TV) don't work. I tired another brand that was designed to repeat from one room to another but it did not do a good job inside a divided cabinet as it only repeated from the main unit. My problem is the cabinet is divided down the middles with cable access between the sides in the back. Being a big fan of the Harmony remotes I went ahead and ordered their extender. It was a bit more expensive than others but went ahead based on it being Logitech.

Once I received it and opened up it I was surprised at how small and sleek each piece is. Since it came with one blaster and two mini blasters it game me a lot of options. I have one mini blaster on one side of the cabinet plugged into the main blaster and second mini blaster on the other side. The blaster and mini blasters do a great job of radiating the signal throughout the cabinet. The main blaster unit sits on top of my BD player (inside the cabinet) on one side for all connection. I positioned the mini blasters one on each side to cover the remaining components.

The (visible) receiver unit is also smaller than expected and sits at the base of my (black) Sony TV without being seen at all.

There where no setups to go through and the biggest challenge was how to run the cables, which by the way are plenty long enough for any application I can imagine.

Way to go Logitech ! You built a winner !

I highly recommend this unit (BTW: I NEVER write reviews) Logitech Harmony IR Extender System (Black)

i had lots of problems with this.

initially i wanted something to enhance the reception of my harmony one. since its IR powered, sometimes not all of my appliances receive the commands sent from the controller. i wanted this so that all i need to do is to point the control towards the IR receiver.

its not that simple. this adaptor is a BLASTER system. the core item is a BLASTER. you also connect 2 more mini BLASTERS.

the set up must be such that the IR signal from your controller hits the IR receiver, which sends the signal to the extender core unit, which BLASTS another IR signal , then tells the mini blasters to BLAST another set of IR signals, so that the concerned appliance will respond to the IR signal command.

A your set up must be such that every one of these BLASTERS are well isolated, far apart from each other.

B each appliance must only be exposed to ONE blaster. and NOT able to receive the signal directly from the harmony remote.

C the harmony remote MUST NOT be exposed to any of the blaster signals.

D the receiver must be positioned such that it can only receive signals from the REMOTE ONLY. and not subject to IR from other blasters.

in other words, everything must be isolated from everything else.

failing which, signals will cancel out each other. and your appliances will not respond.

i learnt all these from trial and error. hours of them.

and the system is power. WAY TOO POWERFUL. blasters emit such a powerful IR blast its bound to interfere in some way unless each appliance is in a compartment of some chest of drawers with thick walls or something.

seeing that the blasters are too strong, i wanted to buy third party emitters instead, but the jack size is not 3.5mm. so NO GO.

i tried wrapping the blasters with thick tape, foil etc. but without much success, plus its gonna look real stupid. i managed to get some improvement / some shielding effect with thick rubber.

so if you dont think you can achieve all the above criteria, i suggest dont buy this, buy another 3rd party IR extender system, or get the RF harmony remote. otherwise, you will find that the responsiveness would become much worse that if you use the original controller for your tv or sound system. eg you have to press a key 3 times to see a reaction, or try different angles, point this way and that, just to get your volume up one notch on your tv or something. forget about multiple commands like turn on tv and bluray player, then adjust tv input etc.

the only good thing about it is that it is 100% guaranteed to work with the Ps3 adaptor.

its a well made product, but its a way too POWERFUL blaster system. get it only if for some reason, you need high powered IR blasts all around your setup.

if you need IR extension, i would recommend 3rd party systems with emitters attached directly to the IR receiver of your appliance, not blasters. dont worry about emitters looking ugly, cos even the mini blasters are big enough for someone far to notice a weird protrusion easily.

many people buy this because its LOGITECH. but you can possibly buy something of lower price but works much more efficient than this. YES, 3rd party systems work too, cos ITS STILL IR. IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE LOGITECH. - Remote Control Extender - Remote Extender - Universal Remote - Harmony One'

Surfboard - surfboard, comcast

I have been a Comcast high-speed Internet customer for about 5 years. The modem Comcast provided as part of a package deal was a Motorola Surfboard 4100. About 4 months ago, I noticed that I was getting barely more than 1/2 the speed I was paying for, which was 6Mbps. I complained to tech support. They sent a technician out and within 3 sec. after walking into my office, he said, "Oh...I know exactly what the problem is; you have an 'end-of-life' modem. You need to upgrade to a 2.1 DOCSIS modem, and I would recommend a Motorola Surfboard as one of the best." So I got on my favorite shopping site, Amazon, and bought one. Not only did it work perfectly from day one, my average download speed on Speakeasy.net is ~22Mbps -- almost 6 1/2 times what I was getting with the old Surfboard -- and the upload speed increased from ~364Kbps to ~1.6Mbps.

Would other brands do as well? Probably, but I stuck with Motorola because the last one was 100% reliable; never had a problem. The only reason it was not delivering the speed is because Comcast's system had changed and the old modem's software could not keep up with it. I also like the fact that Motorola moved the standby button to the top where it is more easily accessible. I have a new Vista computer and have to put the modem on Standby after putting the computer to sleep, because (not sure why) Internet activity tends to wake it back up.

I found it disappointing that Comcast apparently does not alert its customers when their modems are obsolete. If you're having a similar problem, check with your ISP. If you need to upgrade your modem, I highly recommend this one. Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem

Very simple to install (just plug it in), fair price, everybit as fast as the modem I was renting from my cable internet supplier for $3.00/month. You have to call your internet provider so they can do whatever they do to activate the modem in their system, which is easy enough--the tech guy I was talking to basically informed me that this is one of the best on the market.

I bought this modem because my other one started to drop my internet connection. After replacing my router several times, we finally figured out that the modem may be the issue. I have been using this modem for a month and half so far and I still drop connection from time to time. So, I'm not sure if it is the modem, the router, or Comcast. My bet is on Comcast. I didn't have any issues until they took over. The modem was easy to set up, except the part that I had to call Comcast to get it assigned to my account. That took over an hour. So, be prepared to spend time with your cable internet provider to assign this modem to your account before it will work. Hopefully, I can get everything running smoothly again soon.

The modem works as well as the other Amazon reviews suggest. However, ISP Comcast was a nightmare unto itself. Two "technicians" swore that because I purchased the modem (and didn't rent it from Comcast), I would have to wait until one of their mobile technicians could complete the setup! Fortunately, I made a third call and actually (imagine!!!) reached someone in the United States who logged the modem's MAC ID and I was underway without even having to reboot or having to resort to the installation CD. The modem is noticeably quicker than the 3Com it replaced.

Our 'Terayon' modem that came with our 'Adelphia' broadband cable connection died after 2 plus years, so my cable/internet provider swapped out the defective modem for this new 'Motorola'. I was a bit leery and concerned about having to hook up another modem for fear that something would surely go wrong with the hookup on our 2 PC router network, and I would have to call a tech or a consultant. It took about 3 minutes to open the box, hookup the power, cable, and ethernet connectors, and attempt to go online. There was NO software installation, and NO reprogramming or changing any parameters or network settings. NONE! The modem instantly powered up and magically recognized the network and cable data signal, and I was good to go! 'Plug and play' heaven! And the performance is better than the older 'Terayon'.

This modem blows my old Toshiba out of the water. I have a home network and internet phone too, and even when my Toshiba modem was newer, I still had to powercycle / reset it (and my router) every couple of days. However, I have had the motorola for over 2 weeks now and have not had to reset anything on the network. Very solid, and installation was easy. I highly recommend this modem. - Broadband - Comcast - Surfboard - Motorola'

Inkjet Printer Paper - consumables, multipurpose paper white

The HP Color Inkjet paper is 24 lb. paper which is just a bit heavier and thicker than most copy paper. The heavier paper gives a more professional feel when used for business letters or anytime you want to make a good impression. The high brightness make images appear sharp and crisp. Text is also crisp with no evidence of bleeding. In my Canon PIXMA MG5220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One (4502B017) the paper feeds well from both paper trays with no jamming. What more can you ask?

Unlike the other reviewer my order arrived in just two days. HP Color Inkjet Paper, 24 Pound, Uncoated, 96-Plus Brightness, 8.5 x 11 Inches, 400 Sheets (202040)

I buy HP paper for my HP printers when the price is sensible. I like the brightness, and the heaver weight of the paper makes double-sided printing work well. Ordering from Amazon is easy, saves carrying home the heavy paper and avoids the sales tax. Amazon's great service and quick prime shipping makes this an easy decision.

I bought this paper after I got a new printer that had double sided printing. I heard that lighter paper tends to show through to the other side when printing on both sides. So I turned to this product.

This paper has done well with double sided printing. I did notice a slight show through to the other side, but this paper is thick enough that it doesn't interfere with reading too much. This paper is also very bright. Print seems to be more clear and crisp. Graphics also come out nicely. There haven't been any paper jams yet either.

To sum up, if you are looking for thicker paper for double sided printing, or just want higher quality paper for a report or presentation, then this is the paper for you. - Multipurpose Paper White - Consumables'

Gluten Free Baking - cuisinart, gluten free

We bought this machine based on a recommendation from a friend at work and other reviews we read on Amazon. First of all, let me say that this is a great product. The recipes are easy to follow and the bread is outstanding. We brought the machine with us when we visited relatives over the holidays, and two of them are now going to get machines for their families.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WROTE NEGATIVE REVIEWS, AND THOSE WHO HAVE READ THEM, PLEASE READ THIS!! For my first loaf I went to the store to get flour. At the store I talked to the guy stocking the flour aisle about what kind of flour to use (note that the recipes specify "bread flour"). The grocery store guy and another woman who joined in the discussion assured me that I could use all purpose flour, so that's what I bought. The loaf came out so-so. It was quite dense, and the middle of the loaf was sunken instead of nicely puffed up (many of the negative reviews describe exactly this problem). So I googled "bread flour" and found out that it is significantly different from all purpose flour. It's higher gluten and protein content produces stretchier, chewier bread, but more importantly, it traps more of the carbon dioxide from the yeast so that the dough rises properly.

Equipped with this information, I went back to the store and bought King Arthur BREAD FLOUR. What a difference! My son described it as a 1000% improvement. Every loaf since then has been outstanding.

One more thing. The recipe instructions tell you to set the loaf size and crust color, then select the bread program (white, wheat, gluten free, etc.). You actually want to SELECT THE BREAD PROGRAM FIRST, then the loaf size and crust color, because setting the bread program first will RESET the loaf size and crust color to the defaults (2 lb. loaf, medium crust).

My wife has Celiac disease and a good gluten free bread is impossible to find ready made. We must bake our own bread if she is going to have a bread that tastes good. We have found the bread mix from Gluten Free Pantry is great. but our old bread machine, a Breadman Ultimate was not turning out a consistant product. It was less than a year old and quit working. Which turned out to be a blessing. Based on our experience with other Cuisinart products and the reviews on Amazon we decided on the Cusinart CBK-100. The gluten free cycle is perfect. It bakes the best gluten free bread we have ever had. We have used Gluten free pantry Sandwich bread mix and also Bob's Red Mill gluten free multigrain mix. WOW! THe bread is so good that I even like it. This bread is light and the crust is perfect. It even is easier to slice. If you are looking for a bread maker that turns out excelent gluten free bread this is the one to buy

When our breadmaker of about 12yrs. broke, I search the internet for a replacement. I thoroughly checked out many many many different types and prices. I settled on this Cuisinart CBK-100 and, have been very pleased with the texture of bread it makes. I do however use 2 tablespoons of sugar for a 1 1/2 lb. loaf and use only 1 teaspoon of fast acting yeast instead of 1 1/2 teaspoons. It operates very quiet compared to our older machine we had. I really like the beeps telling you it's time to take the paddle out of the bread so you don't have that gaping hole on botton of every loaf. I strongly recommend purchasing this machine.

Bought this last year and tried about 5-6 recipes several times, at different loaf sizes, using recipes that came with the machine as well as out of reliable cookbooks. No luck. Every loaf collapsed and baked into a dense, inedible mound of dryness. Tried to return it, but had passed the Amazon return time. Cuisinart was not particularly helpful--made us return and try another machine twice even though I explained that I thought the issue had to do with the rise times programmed as part of the equipment, not the product itself. Fortunately, since we live in California, the shipping back and forth costs were paid by the company (CA law). Finally, after the third return, they gave us credit, which we ended up using on a different product. That nonsense took a year and many phone calls to negotiate! As a longtime Cuisinart customer, I found their customer service lacking in quality. Since then, I have started baking by hand, using a wet dough recipe from the PBS show America's Test Kitchen. Also considering trying the cookbook, _Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day_--as making bread is relatively easy--but the timing is the hard part--while adapting some "high elevation" tweaking to the recipes (didn't grow up baking at high elevations so that has been a learning curve). The low star rating is for the issues we faced with Cuisinart in returning the product, which does not adapt to high elevation climates. I wish Cuisinart would address this issue by building better time options into the machine design.

I bought this product in August and it worked great for two months. Then the touchpad stopped working. Customer service told me how to reset it and that seemed to work. The paddle broke during making the very next loaf of bread; it took 4-6 weeks to get a replacement paddle as they were "back-ordered". I made one loaf successfully when the new paddle arrived. During baking the second loaf, the heating element quit and I was left with a half-baked loaf. I called Cuisinart asking for a refund and was told they don't do that, but would send a replacement machine, shipping at my expense. I did talk them into paying the shipping, but they have no expedited shipping so I will wait a couple of weeks for the replacement. I have to return the old machine at my expense. This, in my opinion, is poor customer service. I hope I got a dud the first time and that the replacement is problem free or I will be out $90. By the way, they only give the remainder of the original warranty on the replacement. When it worked, it made good bread, but think twice about buying this product.

Rockstar Games - rockstar games, playstation 3

*No Spoilers* just details that can hopefully help the undecided

First review (had to really great game) don't be too harsh

What an amazing game this is so far. The environment is so vivid. Graphics are up to par. This game was made for the Ps3!

Being a Rockstar Game, the controls are very similar to Grand Theft Auto & Red Dead Redemption. The controls also reminded me of Mafia II. Very smooth and fluid. There's also a map on the bottom left corner just like in the other Rock* games.

This game is not as fast paced as Grand Theft Auto. It is not a shoot first ask questions later type of game. Keep that in mind before buying. I'm enjoying it but I can just imagine some people hating it for be slow paced.

Investigating crime scenes can be so exciting as you do not know what or where your next clue will be. You are given the freedom to walk around and find clues with the assistance of vibration/music as you get near them.

There is no multiplayer for this game, which can be good or bad. I for one will be way too busy solving crimes around Los Angeles to even notice.

The PS3 version of the game comes with an exclusive DLC card to download a case called Consul's Car.

I pre-ordered from Best Buy so I received The Sharpshooter suit also.

And I was there for the midnight release so I received the nicholson electroplating DLC.

I will update as I get farther in the game & notice more helpful tips/details

Update:

The characters in LA Noire look so real. When they speak, it is shown in their facial expressions. No lip syncing here, it looks like they are actually talking. When a victim/witness is upset you can notice how their eyebrows kind of fold in.

Interrogation

When questioning a victim/suspect/witness you can choose from accepting it as the truth, lies, or doubt. Choose wisely. There's a score system which will provide you with experience points if you ask the right questions. These points can help you find clues easier.

Driving

I've experienced that some of the cars start to swerve if you're going too fast. Also even though you have destinations, you can just cruise the city limits. If you get lost, your partner will be more than glad to give you directions. "Make a left, take the right" kind of thing.

Fist fights

Some guys just don't give up without a fight. Team Bondi provides a nice block and punch system to knock some sense into them.

I've noticed you can use the block to make your opponent attack & opening himself for a nice right hand hook.

Cover system

By going into cover, the player can look around to see where the bullets are flying in from. This way you can pick the enemy out one by one. The Cover system allows you to regain health if you need to. Sometimes you will be outnumbered and outgunned. So this is where the cover system comes in handy. Cover and peek out when the enemy is reloading if they have serious fire power. The first time I ran into a shooting. I caught a bullet in the back. You've been warned!!!

Health

There was an actual opened bloody wound on my back for a while. But as my health recovered it went away. so you can restore your health by staying out of harm's way. I like this system better than Grand Theft Auto's health packages.

Thanks for reading! L.A. Noire

I'm 33yrs old and I've been playing video games most of my life and I can honestly say that after playing this game for five hours this is one of the best games I have ever played. It is like watching a (mystery) movie and being able to control the plot. Graphics are excellent, controls are very easy to use.

I pre-ordered this game from amazon, they honored the pre-order price of $59, and I got a $15 credit towards my next game...I also ordred the .99 release day delivery and received it on time. Today (one day after the game came out) they increased the credit $5, but I'm not concerned about it.

Just a note, that this game is rated M and is definitely not for kids...You do very graphic detective work on brutal raped/murdered victims.

Aside from the controls, this game isn't like any other Rockstar game made...You can't go running around going crazy causing chaos like Red Dead Redemption or any GTA series. It is what they say it is, it is innovative and a very refreshing experience. I would say that this game could open a totally new Genre in the near future.

Buy this game here at amazon and enjoy it.

I love this game for so many reasons, yet the few irritating drawbacks infuriate me. The atmosphere, music, facial expressions, and story are amazing. I want to advance through the game as quickly as possible to find out how things progress. However, the completely hit-or-miss interrogation sessions and rooting through garbage can crime scene investigation have me sick enough to quit.

The facial expressions and voice acting are just as incredible as advertised. I knew going into this that picking up on facial ticks and eye darting were key to detecting inconsistencies in testimony. Still, no matter how you play it, there's no way to tell whether you should believe, doubt, or catch the witness in a lie. Some of the lying is completely obvious, yet you still lose for not selecting the correct choice between "doubt" or "lie". I don't mind doing more investigation to solve the case, but I hate feeling like a failure when the game gives me no other options or assistance.

I also tired of the same old crime scene investigations. You move from area to area, waiting for the controller to rumble so that you can investigate. Sometimes its evidence worthwhile, but more often its just a bottle or an ashtray worth nothing. Often times you find yourself re-examining an area after all other evidence has been found, as if you'd missed something the first time.

It pains me to write this review. I had this preordered, and had been counting down the months to its release. I still find it an amazing piece of entertainment, pushing the boundaries of what a video game can be. Yet some of the elements are just not implemented in a way that can be considered fun, or an attainable challenge. When you don't know why you're getting things wrong or misinterpreting information, there's no reason to hone your technique or continue. I'll probably just finish this up with a strategy guide so I know how to answer the interrogations. - Video Games - Playstation 3 - Adventure - Rockstar Games'

Covers - skins, ipod touch 4th generation

I was bit hesitant to order this cover since it only had one review but I admit it was great buy. It's the perfect mix of hard and soft rubber with clear back. It's stylish and looks great. It fits very well on the Ipod touch 4th gen with access ports for headphones, charging/upload jack and camera. The power and volume buttons are covered but are "raised" and allows for easy use. The material is not a lint magnet like some silicone covers and I carry it in my pocket frequently. I would highly recommend this product. Black/Clear Hybrid Protector Case for Apple iTouch 4, iPod Touch 4th Generation

I wanted to get a stylish case for my 4th Generation iPod Touch, but one that would protect it sufficiently from drops and scrapes.

Its made of hard plastic and rubber, and each surface is incorporated effectively into the design.

Once installed, this case looks "hi-tech" and fits very snug on all corners. The only flaw is the small rubber strip that runs across the bottom edge near the charger plug that probably could have been omited. Or conversely, made this section using the hard plastic. Its a minor annoyance that I am willing to overlook due to the good price.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and recommend this protective case to my fellow Amazonians.

I read the other reviews before I picked this protector. It does fit the 4th generation iPod Touch perfectly. It was easy to put on and has a good feel to it. It is a sturdy cover and has ribbing on the sides which help to give it a good non-slip grip. It poses no problem when you want to plug it in for recharging, to use headphones or to plug it into a dock. You do have to use a firm touch to use the on/off/sleep button or the volume buttons, but it is nice that those buttons are protected with this cover.

I like it. It would be nice if it came in different colors but I'll keep it like it is for the quality and the value.

This is a great case! It fits my 4th generation really well. It's not bulky and looks really cool.It has good grip and overall feel to it. It doesn't fall off like most cases, it's nice and tight. I would highly recommend this case.

Pretty neat. I dropped my old iPod Touch on the floor so the digitizer broke, so when I replaced it I immediately started looking for protection for the new one. Of all the cases for the iPod Touch, I liked this the most. It looks great, is affordable and I'm sure I would already broken my new iPod without it. It's easy to fit on the iPod and fits very well.

As described. My previous case was very rubbery and sticky. It made it difficult to slide into my pocket. This hybrid protector case is rugged and fits perfectly. I'm very happy with my purchase. I can't say that I'm stoked about paying $15-ish dollars for $0.09 worth of plastic but it's much cheaper than many others. I recommend this product.

This is the best case I've ever ordered from Amazon at a very cheap price. The quality of this product is amazing! It fits exactly around the iPod touch 4 and does not slip or move. It does not attract lint at all. It gives the iPod an amazing look and feel. You could get TPU cases like this one in stores for about 20 dollars but just plain and ugly. This is cheap, beautiful looking, and just awesome. If you buy this case, you will not regret it. Best quality you could find. This is absolutely replacing my hard case. I even think it looks better than Otterbox cases and it has the same type of hole in the back to show the apple. Unbeatable product.

I've been waiting on this item..and it turn out great!

the IPOD I have was still in the box and now it can finally come out!

I just didn't want to use it without the case due to the sliver back but thanks a lot for the Case!

LOOKS GREAT! well buy again from them! - Ipod Touch 4th Generation Case - Ipod Touch 4th Generation - Ipod Touch 4g Case - Skins'

4th Generation Shuffle - shuffle, mp3 player

I just got my new shuffle in the mail today. I needed something for running and dreadmilling when it is too snowy/icy to run outside.

My initial impressions:

Pros

Great little thing (small)

strong clip

easy to use (hooray for buttons!)

simple, multi-position switch on the top lets you play in order or shuffle. Voice over button is easy to use and works well.

Easy to sync (choose playlists, genius playlists, albums, artists, podcasts, etc...)

Looks good (see my notes about online photos at the bottom)

Long (15h) battery life.

EDIT: A "hold" function has been added, just hold the center button to activate and deactivate, good feature. It would be useful if I had just gotten mine, but I learned how to use it without the feature so I don't end up using hold much.

Cons

None. (As far am I concerned, there are cons like "no screen" and such, but if you order this to get an ipod shuffle, not a nano or other mp3 player, you will not be disappointed. I was not let down at all).

EDIT: After some thought and use, I thought of some cons.

$50 for 2gb is not a great price compared to other mp3 players.

2gb might be limiting to you. This just means you have to choose or let itunes choose what music goes on there carefully.

Because the buttons take up most of the front of the ipod, it can be hard to use the clip while it is turned on without pressing the next button.

Conclusion:

If you know what an ipod shuffle does, need a reasonable music player that syncs with your itunes, and don't need more. GET ONE!!! I can't imagine you will be let down.

One last note: From all the photos online, you can't really tell, bu this is not a matte finish ipod. The finish is shiny, but not mirror-y. And actually, no one will care about this, but the top and bottom are matte silver. It looks good. Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Pink (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Silver (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

I bought the Ipod Shuffle 4th generation to replace my 5th generation 30 gb Ipod, which now has inadequate battery power. I have used the Shuffle for a few days now, since it arrived in the mail from Amazon.com. There are a few small downsides too it, that can easily be ignored. The usb cord that plugs into both the computer and ipod shuffle is about four inches long. It's also hard to clip the shuffle onto my pants without pressing a button at the same time. I don't mind these cons as long as I'm careful not to lose the short cord. I also don't mind pressing a button (usually on the face) while I clip it onto my pants, as it usually just rewinds the song a few seconds, or skips to the next song--which can easily be set back to the original song by pressing the back button.

I really like the VoiceOver feature on the Shuffle. In a feminine monotone voice, it'll tell you what song you're listening too or what playlist you're using. And for 2gb of music, it's not bad, and holds just about as much music as I will ever need. I also like how I can put playlists on the Shuffle, which can come in handy when I want to listen to a certain genre.

I should also mention that I chose the blue color. It's not the same color as the display picture, and is actually more of a smoky blue color--which is still a really pretty color.

I copy and pasted the following from the Apple website for those who are confused on how to use the VoiceOver feature (Like I was). [...]

Just to correct some of the previous reviews...the big problem with the 3rd gen shuffle was not that it was "too small" or even that the controls were not on the unit itself, but instead were on the headphone line...the problem was if those controls got even the SLIGHTEST (and I do mean slightest) bit of moisture on them it would totally jack up the shuffle. Now, what kind of activities would most people buy the tiny shuffle mp3 player for versus a nano or standard iPod? Oh, maybe jogging or working out? And what do you do with physical activities like this? That's right, you sweat! So it doesn't take a rocket scientiest to see the problem with the 3rd gen shuffle...a problem that should have been seen before they ever even produced it. Just read all the reviews for the 3rd gen and you'll see that this was not just a minor issue, but a huge one that the majority of the users had to deal with. It is good to see they came to their sense and we can once again use the shuffle during exercise.

The iPod that I currently use on a daily basis is my Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL. The main problem with THAT UNIT for me is that there is no other option than to use the Apple earphones, seems a greedy move by Apple. When the 4th generation came along, and I heard it had buttons I started to get excited. I would be able to use the Bose In Ear headphones with it. I don't exactly know why, but I wished the second generation shuffle would become available again. There was no hold function on the unit I tested, and the square shape wasn't something I was accustomed to.

Here's a general list of pros & cons:

PROS:

-Longer battery life[15h, compared to 10h on 3rd gen, and 12h on 1st & 2nd gen]

-BUTTONS were returned to the unit itself [not on the earphone cord]

-Price dropped to $49, dropped by about 17%

-Another color choice added, ORANGE

CONS:

-Price, $49 for 2GB, not great compared to other brands

-No hold function, though I hear Apple might add one

-No option for 4GB of storage anymore

-USB cable is 45mm[about 1.8 inches] VERY SHORT

-When the clip is pushed, it's hard not to push one of the buttons

-Buttons slightly harder to press than other models

-Square shape makes it harder to use when not looking.

Portable Radio

BUY THREE!

I've never written an online review before but his radio is great and is worth the trouble.

I'm a Ham Operator and I restore tube radios for a hobby so I've spent a few hours listening to DX, I know crap, I know hype, and I know a miracle when I trip over one. I started looking around for a pocket radio to keep in my truck because sometimes I would be caught working away from the shop for hours without any news or music. If you're a radio nut you can guess what happened next. A month later, probably twenty hours online and more than a hundred bucks worth of pocket radios and I wasn't happy. I'd had fun and now had some radios handy around the house for "adequate" use (radios & led flashlights, can't have enough!). Even though I had run across this radio online and in reviews I didn't put it on my list of probables, It was just a $10.00 radio and I was limiting myself to vintage radios with discrete transistor designs or new IC designs over $30 or $40 dollars. After all I wanted a "good radio". I was pretty much interested in an analog radio because in this price range digital sets are usually noisey, battery hogs, and plauged by "birdies". Finally, I ordered one of these because "what the heck" ten bucks, if it sucks I'll give it away. When it showed up I plopped in a set of AA's tuned the dial and heard lots of stations, good sign. Any radio that has analog tuning with a dial thats two inches across is a challenge, but thats ok. Low and behold theres KGNC from over 120 miles away and it's 1500hrs(3pm). What the hay! Listen up buyers, This radio is TEN BUCKS and it can hear stations others can't. No one has learned how to put sensitivity, selectivity, and audio into one box this size but this radio is a miracle! Don't get me wrong this is not a Sony 2010 or a GE SRIII, but it's small enough and cheap enough to have one in every room of the house and in each car. And the speaker is good enough that you don't have to use phones. It has a telescoping antenna for FM. Some radios that cost 6X as much don't have a tele. ant., they use the headphone cables. That means even if your using the speaker you have to have the headphones plugged in or the FM stinks. Since this is still a new toy it hasn't yet made it to the glove box in the truck, I'm still playing with it. I live in the Panhadle of Texas and last night I listened to a talk show in Nebraska before bed; woke up and touched the dial and there was a great morning show in San Antonio. If this radio was $70.00 I'd give it 3 or 3.5 stars, for TEN to FOURTEEN dollars it is a true bargain! Some others may review this radio and subtract points because of selectivity or something, remember this radio cost less than a good burger and fries! I've spent thousands of dollars on radios; Collins,Icom,Yaesu,Sony, and others. I have better radios than this one but I've never had anything for >$15.00 that was this good.

Buy two or three, I did.

Jeff Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket AM/FM Radio, Silver

I love this little radio. It gets great reception for all the AM talk radio shows I like listening to. However, like another reviewer mentioned, I too have a problem with the output jack. When I plugged in three seperate headphones they all only had sound for the left ear. If it weren't for that I'd probably give it five stars. After consulting sony's online FAQs I found that this is most likely not a defect in the product. To quote the site:

"If audio is being heard from the left side of the headphones only, ensure that the device from which it is connected has stereo output capability.

IMPORTANT: A mono device will only output sound to the left side.

NOTE: Generally, if a device has an output jack labeled EARPHONE it will be mono, while an output jack labeled HEADPHONE will be stereo. "

Sure enough this little radio does not have a headphone jack, just an earphone one. If you want this radio to use without headphones, or don't mind sound from only one ear then it's great.

I'm one of "those people" that always seems to have room for one more radio, even if it is roughly the same as many others I own. After reading several reviews for the ICF-S10MK2 and seeing the $10 price tag, I couldn't resist. After spending a few days of extensive listening, it has sent a few other radios to the display shelf. The Sony is a bare-bones FM/AM transistor - no clock, dial lighting, bells or whistles. The clear plastic front and splash of brushed aluminum around the dial selector give it just enough style to be noticed. Controls are kept to a minimum at volume, tuning, and band-selection. The audio quality is good, but par for a transistor radio. As long as awe-inspiring surround sound isn't expected, you won't be disappointed. The FM antenna folds out from the left side of the radio and swivels around for optimal reception. A much better option than just protruding from the top. The earphone plug on the side is mono only, and will only play in the left ear with a standard set of headphones. FM performance is good - a little too good, as the signals tend to overload a bit. Away from the city areas, FM signals come in distant and fairly well. The AM band is where this little Sony really shines. While most small radios can't cope with decent AM reception, this one goes above and beyond radios 3 times its size and 6 times the price. The AM tuner has excellent sensitivity and selectivity, and gives you the option of some tougher signal catches. I have been able to listen to a small station 35 miles away at 1140khz, while almost next to the antennas of a 50,000 watt monster at 1180. The S10MK2 performs some good feats on only 2 AA batteries, with an average listening life of 40-45 hours per set. Alot of enjoyment for little money. For a quick breakdown:

Pros:

- Long life on batteries

- Fairly loud volume without distortion

- easy to operate

- excellent reception

- cheap price tag

Cons:

- earphone audio in left ear only without special adaptor

- minimal styling. Won't stand out in a crowd

- antenna arcs, but doesn't swivel

- FM selectivity not all that it could be

- audio quality is OK, but not spectacular

- battery door isn't hinged and could be easily lost

- no option for AC power. Batteries only

Although there are some radios that perform better than this particular Sony, you won't find any of them this inexpensive. For good listening on the cheap, make sure to get one...or two. Maybe 3 just in case.'

Beauty Products - olay pro-x, cleaning brush

This is a very good product My face feels so smooth I'am so glad I bought the replacement brushes as I don't want to stop using this for a minute. I highly recommend the Oil of Olay cleansing face brush and get the replacement brushes at the same time.

Sincerely,

Patricia Lidel

I bought the replacement brush heads because I wanted to have them when (and if) the brush head I have on the original unit wears out. I use this tool in my daily routine and love the results. I have been using Olay products for nearly 40 years and have never strayed from the line. At 50 years old, I constantly hear from others that I don't look it at all and I owe most of that to Olay.

These were also a gift and they are replacement heads for the Olay Professional Pro-X facial scrubber and I'm sure that they are going to work just fine as the person I give this to said that the Olay Professional Pro-X is great and is doing the job that it is suppose to do. The person hasn't had to use the replacement brush heads yet for the one that came with the Olay Professional Pro-X hasn't worn out yet.

These replacement heads work very well. They are not too hard and not so soft that they are ineffective. They don't fray or come loose from the base. I replace mine every three months, but during the time in use they rinse clean very easily and don't hold any sort of odor. I've used this and Clarisonic's facial brush, and for my money I prefer the Olay system because it does the exact thing as the Clarisonic, the smaller heads allow easier access around the nose, the cost can't be beat.

Never ever, ever, ever exfoliated. Unfortunately, due to an injury I find myself spending more time on the computer. I've noticed a change in my skin almost immediately. This gadget gets in there, the way wishing normally doesn't. Finally, something I can put my stamp of approval on! Believe the hype! - Face Brush - Olay Pro-x - Cleaning Brush - Beauty Products'

Dating Advice - dating advice, relationships

I wanted to rate this book 4 stars however the result is what stopped me from doing so.

Most of the info is common knowledge. Do not beg or cry for your man to be back with you. Have some pride and dignity. Be happy go lucky; do not show him you give a damn. Stop talking to him for a week then call him to hang out. End the date first, do not stay to long. Do not answer all his calls, keep him guessing. Stuff like this. No real "ah huh" moments. However, for those who have no clue it is definitely a good reading.

His ultimate big moment at the end is to not sleep with your ex until he promises you a commitment. That is it! He claims that if you withheld having sex with your ex, he will automatically want to be in a committed relationship with and this is a little presumptuous. Trust me, I am the NO girl! Withholding sex and making a guy wait at least 3 months for your loving and not having sex with your ex is a must! However, withholding sex from your ex will not automatically make him want to commit. Yea he will still chase you as he wants the goods, however, he can just as easily go have sex with someone else. This is not to say you should have sex with him, DO NOT unless he commits, however just do not assume he will give in because you said no.

I suggest getting: Why men Love Bitches and Why men Marry bitches by Shery Argov

Steve Harvey has two good books as well! How to Get Your Ex-Boyfriend Back

I myself am skeptical of any "self-improvement" book but especially a dating one, but I bought it out of not really having any other options for me. My boyfriend is a player and was going out and meeting other women. My friends told me he's not right for me, and maybe they're right, but I want to be with him! I got the book and I put all the steps into place, and worked really hard. The best part was the letter the book gives you to break up with him (which totally turns the tables!). He was calling me and texting me, but like the book said to do, I ignored it. One of the only issues I have with this book is that it wasn't 7 days to get him back, it was about 3 weeks. Plus I would have been happier if it was cheaper. I know you can get a kindle version if you want, though. I'm just saying what my impression is. I did the manipulation tactic at the end of the book out of desperation (and being a red-blooded woman willing to do whatever it takes) and to my surprise it really worked. Now we're a couple again, he's going out much less and devoting more time to me in our relationship, and I truthfully couldn't have done it without this book's help.

I think it is a perfect first start book, but definitely explore other books. After finishing the book I did feel uplifted and I am confident that I can completely avoid contact with my ex for at least a week or two. If anything, it gave me my control back in just the 2 hours it took me to read the book.

In the end of the book, there are situations that should have been developed further. Like he advices at the first meeting to bring him home to your place, well what if I live with parents? Or if I have lots of roommates? I wish he could have given a plan for how to get invited back to his place and how to accept.

If anything, it is a great self improvement book, I took his advice and hit the gym, not to lose weight, but to stay fit. I feel better, more confident, more social. I am ME again. - Dating Advice - Relationships'

Wireless Alarm - wireless alarm, security system

I've had this alarm for 2 months now and just ordered a second for the back door. The door alarm is VERY loud and piercing. I would think a burglar would not bother entering a home if this alarm was set off. If you want to use the Home mode (so that it sounds off right away when the door is opened), you have a choice of selecting "chime" or "alarm." For the Home mode using "alarm" you do have to activate it with your 4 digit code but you do not need to punch in your code if you're using "chime" for Home mode.

When you set it to "Away" mode, you just need to enter your 4 digit code and leave within 45 seconds. When you come home, you have 30 seconds to enter your code to deactivate the alarm. GE 45117 Deluxe Wireless Door Alarm

I have three of these. One is used as an instant on alarm for a door that nobody is supposed to EVER open. The alarm is LOUD AS THE DICKENS !!! I mean LOUD LOUD ear hurting loud. That's a good thing.

The other two are used as door chimes for every time a door opens (in our case at our place of business).

Th unit comes with both screws and double-sided pressure sensitive tape. Installation is a snap. They will mount on either side of the door, too. Setting your 4 digit code is also a no-brainer: hit the learn button, then enter your 4 numbers on the keypad. See the green light. You're done.

If anybody has a problem with this thing, then they are expecting it to be something it is not. Oh, of course it has batteries. And they are not included. So get some and quit whining.

For what it does, it does it well... and for a peanuts price, too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I am using my alarm as much to know if someone is coming IN as OUT. I have small children and you can't be too careful. I have my alarm set to chime whenever the door is opened. And it works like a dream. It's sufficiently loud for me to hear in my small house, even with a tv on. When we leave the door open (bringing in the groceries)it's nice that the door doesn't keep chiming. I honestly haven't set it to the alarm mode, so I can't comment on that.

this item does exactly what it says it does. the area i live in was having a rash of break ins mid day. my husband and i live in a 3 story colonial. it is hard enough to hear whats going on on other floors but add in daily life like tv, air conditioners, fans and music and you cant hear at all. when we are home during the day we set the alarm to chime and it lets us know if our door opens, from every floor. at night we set it to home so that if an intruder enters we will hear them. during the day when we are at work it is set to away to alert my neighbors if anyone tries to enter our home. you can not simply take out the batteries as another review stated ... you need a screwdriver to do so. and with the sheer volume of the sound that is outputted by the alarm, anyone would run from the home, thinking it was connected to a company. deffinatly worth the investment. we have put one on our basement door as well, to alert us if that door opens since we do not go down there very often.

This alarm had a quick easy setup, i had it up and going in less than five minutes. Followed the instructions which said to switch it to Chime mode to test that you had the keypad and door piece aligned correctly....i did, i was so happy a quick easy setup and an alarm that work for less than $20! So i showed my wife how to work the alarm, she set it and opened the door faster than I had...but to my dismay the alarm didn't register...turns out if you open the door really fast the alarm does not register! I tried this on three doors and got the same result everytime and the alarm was set up correctly. If someone breaks in don't you think there's a chance they may open the door quickly??? Avoid this...you really do get what you pay for and mine is now in the garbage.

If you're a merchant or a parent or anyone else looking for a simple alarm to let you know when a door is opened, this is a very good device. You can switch between a ding-dong alert for when you're in the room and a screaming siren when you want it as an intrusion alarm.

I had previously installed a similar alarm from First Alert. The problem with those is that they use hearing aid batteries which run down quickly and cost nearly $10 to replace. This GE alarm has more functionality and uses longer-lived and less costly to replace AAA batteries.

The only thing that prevented me from giving this alarm five stars is that I had to replace it after it failed after less than a year of use -- one of the control switches on the alarm failed.

I recently bought two of these alarms for my front and back door.

The product is exceptional for the price.

It is easy to install and easy to set up.

I really feel safe when I leave the house, or even when I am IN the house.

I used to have one that, after awhile, stopped taking my code.

Needless to say, THAT was embarrassing when the neighbors would come out to see what was going on. - Alarm - Home Security - Security System - Wireless Alarm'

Unlocked Cell Phones - unlocked cell phones, droid

If you are looking for a non-apple smartphone, this is it.

Primary function, being a phone, is outstanding. The phone has a good reception and you are able to have clear conversations even in noisy environments like games or construction sites.

Additionally, it is full of features with out of the box google integration. The screen is amazing and very responsive. Gps, camera and wi-fi works as expected. The full qwerty slider keyboard works great, however keys are too flat. Form factor is adequate. The phone is slim and not so heavy.

Despite of the bugs mentioned in several forums, I haven't found any. The piece I got came already with the Android 2.1 update and works straightforward.

It deserve a "well done" for the engineers at Motorola. Motorola Milestone Droid Unlocked Touch Screen Phone with 5 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and QWERTY Keyboard - Unlocked Phone - No Warranty - Black

This thing cost way too much, but it is a great phone. Every thing works, the keyboard is nice (except the keys are a little too flat), the screen, the camera, everything works well.

I Have had two problems though - First I bought this phone to use with T-mobile, but it doesn't operate at the frequency T-mobile uses for their 3G service. Second, after the last upgrade it has randomly started playing music. It is a known bug with some work-arounds, but it is very annoying.

So, with all the new variants coming out, I'd say look for something newer on contract first. But if there is a price drop (as stock and demand drop) this is a very capable choice.

i have been using milestone for almost 2 months in usa with t-mobile.i just get EDGE internet speed but it enough for me.i used to have nokia n900 but i returned it bacause of no portrait mode and hard to use like a cell phone. This phone is perfect slim and light.you can use all google features with this phone.phone calls easy and has a detail call log.after the new firmware update its better.gps reception is perfect.battery is enough for all day.it has nice accessories.and I really appreciate shopping with AMAZON never let me down i strongly reccommend this phone and AMAZON.

From the first time you got it, you feel the great quality from this phone. It's solid, a mix of plastic with metal parts. Good sound quality, strong and clear on phonecalls. The multitouch display works perfect, seems the iPhone multitouch works better but is not a problem. Bluetooth not tested yet, WiFi running very good. Pictures and video taken by the camera are acceptable. Data connection over cellphone only tested on EDGE (2G). 3G can't be tested on my area. Even I can't know what 3G bands are supported by this phone, no instructions, no info inside of the product, no info here on Amazon!. I wrote an message to Customer Service, and the answer was: "sorry, we don't know, please contact to Motorola". This part is the worst part. The phone works like a charm, i'm very happy with it, but the missing information about 3G band, means not to be worried about customers. Additionally to this, I receive the product in a too small package from Amazon and the motorola box was crushed :(

Buyer beware, this is a EUROPEAN model (the Milestone also comes in a Canadian version) so 3G is 900/2100 only and that means there is NO WAY to get 3G in the USA, either with T-Mobile or with AT&T - Amazon USA should not be selling this phone without a BIG DISCLAIMER - not to mention they should specify it is a UK model (comes with the original UK charger and a US adapter).

I need an Android phone so if I find there is a GSM Android phone out there that works on a 3G network in the USA I'm returning it.

I've wasted about 10 hours since I got it yesterday :

1. Trying to connect to my AdHoc wifi network : forget about that Google have killed that basic feature in Android that 99.99% of the WiFi enabled devices (WinMo, iPhone, Blackberry, Internet Radio, etc...) have.

2. Finding out that this 3G phone sold by Amazon USA does not work with any 3G network in the USA.

Since people like lists, I'll start with what I liked and disliked.

Pros:

1. One of the best screens that is not an iPhone 4.

2. Amazing browsing capabilities.

3. Relatively fast processor and GPU.

Cons:

1. Constant echo on all voice calls (T-Mobile and Skype).

2. Sound quality through the earpiece is mediocre.

3. People on the other end often complain of audio distortion (e.g. thought they had the wrong number on numerous occasions because they couldn't recognize my voice).

4. Music player starts playing on its own through speakerphone several times per day, even if you haven't used it since a restart. Only way to avoid it is to shut off phone entirely.

5. Keyboard is garbage for everything but playing games.

6. Sliding mechanism on screen is loose which means it will open partially in your pocket, turning on the screen momentarily (but continually) and killing your battery life.

7. Build quality is very cheap; unit feels very fragile overall and housing was actually loose around the buttons, especially camera and volume rocker buttons.

8. Outbound calls that aren't dialed through Contacts list make the phone crash completely about 5% of the time (I counted about 1 in 20 calls did this).

9. Browser performance gradually slows over a couple days until you reset the phone.

10. Camera is absolute garbage.

11. Accelerometer is way too slow for a phone of this price and supposed quality.

I tried really hard to love this phone, as I had used one on several occasions in the past and was quite impressed. Going in I realized that the keyboard is not exactly the best for what it's primarily designed for (i.e. typing messages), but it is amazing for retro gaming. Even though it's reversed from the usual gamepad setup, the keyboard is very good for use with S/NES and other game system emulators. For writing messages, it's simply too awkward, and in spite of my best efforts I could not get accustomed to it to the point that it was usable. The onscreen keyboard is much better.

The default browser is pretty good, and the screen is just amazing in terms of color, brightness and sharpness. As a capacitive touchscreen, it is easily as responsive as you'd expect, though I did often experience sluggishness with on-screen command taps, even with no demanding services or applications running. Physically speaking, I wasn't that impressed with the sliding mechanism under the screen, however. I don't know if it was particular to the unit I received, but the screen was quite loose. For some reason there was even some give up and down, not just side to side. That is, the screen moved in four directions, not just two, which made me quite nervous, as the screen overall seemed to have a tenuous connection to the body of the phone. Additionally, the screen moved way too easily in the directions it's supposed to and did not lock into an open or closed position. As I mentioned above, it started to slide at the slightest provocation while in my pocket. The problem is that every time the screen is moved like that, the phone wakes up and remains on for the duration you specify in settings. Turning auto-off to a lower setting might help, but honestly that's a pretty lame workaround. The phone shouldn't be so loosely constructed as to allow opening without a respectable amount of force in the first place.

Unfortunately the worst aspect of this phone was its primary function, namely as a phone. Every time I used it I heard an echo of myself through the earpiece. Using a bluetooth or wired headset eliminated most of it, but for me that's a very impractical solution. And given the cost of the phone, I am not about to suffer with a workaround for something that is supposed to work so well already. After noticing the problem, I did some searching and came across quite a few other users who have experienced similar issues. It seems to be a possible manufacturing defect, but after reading stories of users who had to exchange their units upwards of half a dozen times before getting one that functioned passably well as a phone, I decided to return mine and not exchange it.

Besides the audio problems, I noticed something unusual when dialing numbers manually. After dialing a number with the keypad and hitting send, the phone would sometimes lock up. After about 10 seconds, the Motorola and then Android logos would appear, meaning the phone had just reset itself. This happened to me twice before I started to get concerned. I managed to reproduce the problem myself, though it takes between 10 and 20 manually dialed calls before the phone crashes completely. Still, that is a number that I am simply not willing to live with. What if that one call out of however many happened to be extremely important? What if I were dialing 911 or 112 when it crashed like that? It's a risk that I am not willing to take.

Returning to the audio quality for a moment, I should also mention the unusual distortion that callers would hear on their end of the phone. Often it would happen towards the beginning of calls, where for the first 5 seconds or so it would sound as if my voice were being heavily modulated up or down, akin to what is done to protect someone's identity on TV interviews. Eventually it goes away, but again it was something that happened far too often to be an acceptable quirk.

At the end my biggest annoyance was the music player. If you have any music at all on your SD card or in your phone's memory, be prepared for the music player to start up of its own accord and play a random song through your speakerphone. This happened to me daily, even after I installed a new default audio player, which was the suggested workaround I found on some unofficial forum. It would often turn itself on during the most inopportune times: In a meeting at work, in a quiet elevator, at a movie theater, at 3am when we're asleep, and so on. The only way that I could manage to get it to stop happening was to remove all music from the phone, but since I use my phone at the gym as an mp3 player, it was an impractical solution.

Using many workarounds, this phone would maybe have been usable, but for the price and for what it is supposed to offer, it was simply unacceptable for me. It's distinctly possible that I'm just unlucky and got a defective unit, but keep in mind that every problem I mention above has been well documented elsewhere by numerous others for almost a year now. - Smartphone - Unlocked Cell Phones - Droid - Motorola'
