Linux Compatible - labeling tapes, labelwriter

Dymo has long provided highly functional label makers. The 450 continues in that tradition.

The pros far outweigh the cons. They include inkless printing, automatic connection to Outlook contacts, automatic zip code printing (only if you have the complete 9 digit zip code), a seemingly endless list of available label sizes and functions (including CD labels). Software installation and set up for the label writer was easy and efficient.

The con is one that has plagued Dymo for several generations of it's label writers - it is unreasonably difficult to install new labels. (You eventually learn the secret of carefully aligning the labels at an angle so a "corner" is fed in first.) For a product that otherwise performs so flawlessly, this annoyance should be addressed. DYMO LABELWRITER 450 Label Printer,(1752264), USB, PC/MAC, Printer and Software, 51 Labels Per Minute, black/silver.

I have replaced a 3 year old Dymo LabelWriterr 315 that no longer could operate with Apple OS 10.6.

I am very pleased with this printer. I think that Dymo at last have a good software that enables on to read the address list without having the printer connected. For my periodical use it is very fast. I recommend this simple printer

The Labelwriter 450 printer works great!! The Version 8 software has some design "improvements" which border on being bugs.

1 - If you open a file with an existing file name ending in a number and you perform a SAVE AS function the software truncates any numbers on the right hand side of the filename. So, if you are labeling parts and there happen to be numbers in your part numbering schema, BE CAREFUL that you don't lose the numbers.

2 - The software no longer previews the label of a file selected in the file open menu.

3 - The software is bloated and takes a long time to load up.

I had a Brother labeler before this one, I decided to give dymo a try because I hate the wasted tape I get from every brother printer I had. Boy am I glad I did. This is one neat fast printer. The software is easy to understand and use. To be honest I am kicking myself for not buying this before. The brother is cheaper where I am but the Symo is worth every penny. I threw my Brother labelers in the trash maybe 15 minutes after my first Dymo print. I love these guys! Excellent print quality, excellent labels. impressive software.... in a word.. WOW.

I ordered this because I need to print postage and address labels on a regular basis.

When it arrived I learned the hard way that postage and address labels use different types of tape and that it is quite a pain to switch back and forth between the two.

The product you (and I) need for printing both postage and address labels is the DYMO Label Writer Twin Turbo.

Maybe someone from Dymo will see this post and update the product description here.

As someone who actually gets excited about organizing and labeling things, I feel compelled to tout how much I like this little printer. I do technical work and run a department with many little parts we organize in hundreds of parts bins...I was looking for a label maker to create labels for these..this one is perfect. Create your own custom layout with their software (I have a Mac and had no problem at all with the software), then label away. I've used/owned many label machines, from basic office store type to industrial ones for labeling wires and cable. This Dymo 450 is so much better than a cartridge P-Touch kind of unit for any office use...much much cheaper than going thru those stupid expensive cartridges just for labeling folders and such..and as I mentioned, you create exactly the format you like on the computer and it spits them out fast and cheap. Print quality is excellent and there are many sizes of print rolls Dymo offers.

Is fast and produces high-quality output, it's attractive and doesn't take up much room. Set up was a breeze. The Mac interface is a good balance between simplicity and flexibility. If you need labels, this is a big step beyond printing sheets of them on your regular printer.

First of all Amazon is amazing. I had problems with my first labelwriter and Amazon told me to send it back. Within a couple of days, yes a couple of days to Hawaii, I received another one that is functioning perfectly. This labelwriter is amazing. It has so many printing and labeling options available and they all produce professional end results. Quick and easy with One Click - and I do mean quick. If you are thinking about getting a labelwriter, get this one. And don't forget to get all their labels in different sizes that are available. Believe me, when you get this home you will find many uses for it at home, work or recreation. The only thing I don't like about this is the standby light that is on 24/7. I wish they could have given the consumer the option to turn off this light or to get it dimmer. - Labeling Tapes - Label Printer - Labelwriter - Label Maker'
