Mens-brooks - knee pain, running shoes

These shoes are great! I have wide, flat feet with low arches and I was experiencing foot pain when walking or running. These shoes fit me perfectly and give my feet great support. The Addiction 8 has great cushioning and it comes in wide sizes. It was the perfect choice for me. Now, I have no problems with foot pains.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. Brooks Men's Addiction 8 Running Shoe,White/Pearl/Blue/Tarn/Black,10.5 D

I bought these shoes on reccommendation of my Podiatrist - no wonder he makes the big bucks because he was right! I was having problems with plantar facisitis (or whatever) and also pain on the back/side of my knee. After I got these the pain was gone after wearing them for a day or two. They are so comfortable and offer great support even after walking all day. I will buy another pair for sure - they are GREAT!

edit:

After 2 months I gave up running with these shoes. I bought these in 12ee vs 12M with the addiction 7. This was to accommodate for the narrower fit. It's still too narrow and cuts into the side of my foot, the reduced heal and arch support is giving me hamstring issues. I've gone back to my older Addiction 7's until I can get an expert fitting at my local running store. If you loved the Addiction 7's you may not like the 8's as much.

Original Review:

These are still very comfortable shoes and I like them, but they don't have the same level of arch support that the addiction 7's had. I could feel the difference immediately after putting them on. Having run on them for a month now, I can say the lesser support hasn't caused any problems, but I miss the snugger fit at the arch that I had with my addiction 7's. This issue could be related to the slightly wider shoe size I went with. I went wider to compensate for the smaller toe box. I might need to go to the running shop and get professionally fitted again, it's possible I went to wide.

I'm not a runner, but I am a walker. This is the 6th pair of Addictions I've purchased over the last 5 years or so. I have flat feet so I've added the Powerstep arch support insert and have no problems what-so-ever. I'm sure my next pair will be be Brooks also!

There is a reason why Brooks is a favorite among avid runners. They make quality shoes with biomechanics in mind. Other brands, like Nike, just crank out 50 types of shoes a year.

The Addiction is meant for people with flat foot, overpronators, or both. I am both. The firm inner sole prevents pronation to the extreme and is very solid. The heel cup (where you slide your foot into the shoe) is very stiff. This is a good thing. No matter how awesome the sole of the shoe is, it won't do a darned thing if your heel is sliding all around. To properly wear this shoe, make sure it's snug so the heel cup can hold your heel solidly. By holding your calcaneus firmly and preventing it from sliding out, your talus stays in neutral, preventing pronation further.

Obviously you'll still get pronation because you need it to walk or run. However, this shoe is by far the best at limiting it to a normal amount. Brooks never disappoints.

***Note: for the other reviewer who said the arch support isn't much. This is true b/c it's meant for over pronator, who are mostly flat footed. So the arch support is minimal. However, if you have a mid to high arch and you overpronate, you can easily insert an insole with arch cushioning or stiff support, depending on what you need. I like the Spenco Rx full length arch cushions. It's soft enough for comfort with the stiffness to hold an arch up. But it's important to remember that these shoes are meant for flat feet. The Adrenaline GTS series by Brooks is meant for mid to high arches. Although not many shoes will have a substantial arch in the sole because most people don't have high arches. And shoe manufacturers make their shoes to fit 95% of their demographic.

This is my third pair of these shoes. After experiencing knee pain while exercising for most of my adult life a sports medicine doctor said i pronate heavily and recommended this shoe. Knee pain is gone and i can run a lot farther now.

Shoes are very sturdy and attractive looking. No cheapness to them at all.

I have a bunion on my left foot which requires a very wide shoe. I discovered the Brooks Addiction shoe several years back and have stayed with this shoe since. Other shoes that I have previously tried were Asic and New Balance. These shoes come in two extra wide widths, 2E and 4E. I am using the 2E width which works just fine if I keep my miles at no more than 12 per week. Also, since my marathon days, I get one size larger than my normal size to accomodate foot expansion when your feet heats up from all the pounding. This probably isn't necessary for me any longer since I keep my miles to 3 or less during a run but I find the larger size is more comfortable. I have not tried the 4E but am considering that size for the future if the 2E size starts to be uncomfortable.

Bottom line: Buy if you need extra wide comfortable running shoes, this is the one you want.

Also, the price at Amazon was better than I could get from any local stores. So, consider buying from Amazon. - Running Shoes - Knee Pain - Mens-brooks - Foot Pain'

Tex - textbook, tex

This is a good book for those getting ready to move out on their own. There are chapters on checking, savings, insurances, investments, finding a home and/or apartment and many more. There is a continuous worksheet to help you in your financial planning. It is very helpful. Focus on Personal Finance (The Mcgraw-Hill/Irwin Series in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate)

This textbook gives very insightful information into the world of personal finances - including information regarding credit cards, investing options, checking/savings accounts, car purchases/leases, warranties. Great for anyone serious about taking control of their finances.

I bought this book for a class and will probably keep it around after the class. It has a lot of good information in it that I think will be very useful to me in life, assuming it doesn't become a coffee table place holder.

It becomes a little confusing when purchasing this textbook because within the same year they made several different versions. However, I believe a finance textbook is a textbook you should keep forever.

This was my first time ever using amazon.com to purchase a book. It was very easy and I got the book right away. The only negative thing I can find was that this was a 3rd Edition book and I was looking for a 2nd edition. I guess I can say its more of a positive because I have an updated version, but that was it. I wasn't aware it was a 3rd edition. Other than that, the experience was great and I would definitely recommend buying to everyone. - Tex - Textbook'

Cordless Dremel - cordless, lithium-ion

I bought this as a backup, as i always run out of battery while using my Dremel. For some reason the battery does not last for even 30 minutes on continuous use.

Update : as of May/2010 the battery wouldn't accept charge when i put it in the charger ( i guess it's dead ). I'm sending the unit back to Dremel for repair.

Update : June/2010 Dremel sent me a replacement battery, as the old one was defective. Dremel 855-02 10.8 Volt Battery Pack

Dremel tools are great, but this is the 2nd battery I have had to replace and was disappointed to learn that the Home Depot where I bought the tool does not carry the batteries. All in all, I would look for a different tool before buying another one.

The sale through Amazon was seamless and I was delighted to find the battery source on line. That does not reduce my displeasure with Dremel though. The first time I had to actually buy a whole new Dremel tool.

I needed to replace a pack numbered 855-01 (10.8 volt) which I could not find anywhere. Apparently they have been discontinued by Dremel.

Nothing I could find indicated that the 855-02 pack was usable with my tool and charger.

I purchased this one and was pleased to find that it fits and works perfectly in both the tool and charger.

My Dremel is model 855 which is no longer available. Dremel now calls it model 856, which uses the 855-02 pack.

If you really use your cordless Dremel a lot I'm sure you've felt the frustration of running out of battery power on a project. Having this spare backup battery had made me far more productive and I no longer have to stop for as few hours to charge my only battery.

Pros: Shipped quuckly. As described.

Cons: High Price.... While this was a good price on this battery. I just feel that these batteries are way overpriced by Dremel. And these batteries tend to completely die earlier than they should.

This LIon battery seems to be working so far...it's hard to tell while still new.

Only in the long run can you really determine how well it will work. So far, the few jobs I've used it for have not required recharging yet....thus...so far so good.

Wanted another so when cutting wood in the woods so i would have enough power and not need to stop and charge but these just seem to go on and on and found that i didn't need the extra after all but it's still good to have just in case.1 hour charge and your good to go for a looong time and they hold their charge for a long time also.I had no probs at all with with the seller and recieved my product in a verey timely manner with no problems.

These OEM batteries for this Dremel are great! They have awesome power, runtime, and in between uses they hold their charge very well! If there are aftermarket batteries that fit this Dremel, DON'T GET IT!!! The OEM battery is way to worth the money to get something where you don't know how well they work. Two thumbs, and two big toes up! - Battery Pack - Battery Packs - Cordless - Lithium-ion'

Makita Charger - 18 volt, good product

I bought this charger to replace one that was damaged by a power surge.(Something we don't normally consider is that our chargers are normally on all the time, so a good surge protector is a good idea to use with any charger.)

I use the charger all the time and it works great. Nothing much more to say, it gets the job done. Makita DC1411 High Capacity Variable Voltage Charger - Good Product - Makita - 18 Volt - Lithium-ion'

Business Model Innovation - innovation, business model innovation

I am a big fan of Brand New. Contrary to most people's belief (and you would think it is common sense) that innovation just happens.... that you can't really make a process of inventing, of improving, of innovating. But you can.

Brand New, is a fun, easy read that has walked me through the steps of innovating my services (my company is offers a mix of online services. The book includes the most ignored, yet most important parts of innovation:

1. First, identify if innovation is necessary in the first place... and if it is, where it is needed most.

2. Once and innovation is identified and executed... how to communicate it to customers in the way they want to hear it.

3. What NOT to do with innovation, and learn the successes and failures of companies that have gone about this process.

A very good (and easy) read. I think it applies to more then just marketing teams, but really is a read for business leaders. Five star read! Brand New: Solving the Innovation Paradox -- How Great Brands Invent and Launch New Products, Services, and Business Models

I loved this book! My business is product innovation and manufacturing. This book "Brand New" by Maddock Douglas will enable me to better create process for my customers. Creating ideas is one thing, but getting them to market and profitably is another. As promised, this book has outlined a "disciplined, replicable process that employs a mix of creativity and science to introduce new products efficiently and effectively".

My entire team is now reading the book!! and have bought it for some CEO friends too!

I'm a guy who loves to free think, who loves to come up with new and innovative way of doing things/introducing things/fixing things. Because I know that about myself, I embrace process. I utilize process to harness my sometimes dangerous "free thinking" into a more successful outcome. This book offers a process, say a road map, to innovation. CEO's and Presidents, read this and then give copies to your exec team, the insights in this book will have immediate and lasting effects on your company. One of the best take-to-heart points in this book for me is when the author talks about companies "They have a process for reviewing people for raises and promotions. They even have a process for ordering paperclips, yet they don't have a process for something that is vital to their company's future - handling new product introductions."

I served on a BOD for a non-profit that continually discussed "innovation". To me, it was an excuse to dream big dreams and to complain about companies that didn't get it right. They never we able to do anything about it. This book solves that problem. Use it as your road map, we are sure going to.

Brand New is like a MBA crash course on innovation. It puts words on the new product paradox (aka the 800lb gorilla marketers hate to admit exists) and describes a clear solutions and techniques on how to solve it. I was amazed at how easy the book read and how strong it made me feel knowing that there were like minded people out there. I just wish it came in a pocket size so I could carry it with me more frequently.

I am a business book junkie. Unfortunately my shelf is full of books started but never finished.

This book is not on that shelf.

In fact, it never made it to my shelf. I read it over the Easter long weekend and then passed it on to our marketing Team as required reading.

If you are involved in product development or planning this should be required reading.

Well written, easy to follow and most important easy to execute ideas and strategies right out of the box.

R French

The big management consulting firms have lead the business innovation consulting space for years. The processes have been long, involved and expensive. This book finally demystifies new product innovation and simplifies the process. Great actionable ideas that will help any business become more successful at reinventing itself. Awesome!

Brand New is a must for anyone who is in the business of creating something new, different, exciting, salable and scalable. It simplifies the process of innovating, and provides a model that just about any organization -- whether they be the creators or the judges of what's being created -- can follow. My entire management team will be reading this if they haven't started already.

As the innovation leader of my company, I find myself forgetting about it at times and working on day to day problems. Reading this book reminds me how important it is for any company and how anyone can systematically implement innovation. It's a great book, easy read, and breaks innovation down to its simplest terms. All levels of management should read this book.

Brand New offers a great, practical way to get the best of best practices in innovation all in one place. The approach is process-driven and practical, so it's a realistic solution for today's new product and marketing people. At the same time it offers the due diligence and accountabity that is absolutely essential for launching successful innovations in todays ultra-competitive, consumer-driven world. Its conversational tone is easy to digest, and the content is structured so you can put the knowledge to use right away. Mike Maddock and friends are truly innovators to be able to communicate such a monumental task in such a consumable way. Twelve thumbs up and a must read for anyone responsible for keeping existing brands competitive or launching new brands.

I teach entrepreneurship and business plans, I have an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School, and I am a successful entrepreneurial who has started, grown, and sold a company to a Fortune 500 firm. As such, I maintain a library of "classic" business texts that I refer to regularly and incorporate into my teaching and practice. For the first time in some years, I have added a new book to my shelf: Brand New. Destine to become a classic, this text is an indispensable tool for any business leader. If you are not creating new products or business models on a regular basis, you are destined to stagnate into the downward spiral of complacency. But the paradox is: who has the TIME and the RESOURCES to research new ideas and bring them to market? Brand New solves the paradox, with a step by step guide to innovation and new product development from a scholar practitioner who not only has spent a lifetime studying the innovation/new product development literature, but who has been on the front lines of innovation execution for over 20 years. Bravo to Mike Maddock and Brand New -- a new classic has been born. - Process - Innovation - Business Model - Business Model Innovation'

Cut-off Tool - bare-tool, grinder

I have a pneumatic cutoff tool similar to this, but it requires time to start the compressor and dryers on the air line, and for the tanks to come to pressure. I always have an 18V XRP battery ready to go so for quick jobs this is much faster.

It features 2 nice removable guards, one partially open, and one fully enclosed, each with quick release removal and installation levers.

The side handle unscrews for convenience

Additionally, if you want to use normal wheels from the welding store, there is a locknut and wrench that come with this - you don't use them with the dewalt wheels but if you have a supply of grinding wheels you will need those parts, so put them together (I bought the tool only which saves quite a bit and did not include a case)

When you first get the dewalt wheels you should do a edge cut and surface grind to balance the wheel - they are not always perfect and you can feel the wobble until they shape up, which doesn't take long.

Altogether the convenience factor of using 18V batteries (it's ready for li-ion btw) instead of my pneumatic system is great. For big projects, I'll have the compressor running anyways so it's a no brainer, but for small work this is a cheap solution to grind, or cut. Bare-Tool DEWALT DC411B 4-1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Cut-Off Tool (Tool Only, No Battery)

This grinder works great, but I only suggest it for when there isn't an outlet near by to plug in a corded one. With a fully charged lithium XRP battery, you get about 4 - 5 minutes of work before the battery dies. After experiencing the limited life of this grinder, I thought about returning it for another corded one, but I have come across some instances where there either wasn't an outlet near by or my extension cords were quite long enough to reach my project. I decided to keep it for just those situations.

A corded one is also rated at a higher amperage, so this is best for light duty projects. I definitely would suggest only having this as an accessory to a corded grinder. - Bare-tool - Battery - Grinder - Dewalt'

Earbud Headphones - headphones, apple

It all started well over a year ago when I first bought my iPod, I recieved the shiny, white apple earbuds that came with it. Although they skimped on audio quality (big time), it made up for in comfort and looks. It was one of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, and after the 40th minute or so, you start feeling the discomfort, but with these, its less of it. They also feel great when pushed up against a pillow as I sleep with music on often. Basically, they feel and look great.

Yes, 14 monthes ago, the apple ear buds are probably one of the best, if not THE best pair of head phones I've ever used. But somewhere during the 10-11th month, they slowly started to break down. 4 months later, they have turned from breaking down to a pile of taped-together crap. It was time to get new ones.

I started carousing the site for ear buds, time after time I was led back to the trademark Apple ones for their known quality in design. Seeing as they were priced at 6.99USD I was thrilled and immediately ordered them.

That's pretty much the end of my happiness, upon receiving my new pair of supposedly "Apple" ear buds, I instead receive this utter piece of foreign scum. They feel generic, cheap, and used. The grippy parts of the Apple ear buds are replaced by aged rubber thats long lost its friction. On top of that, these feel as if they were custom modifications of a shoddy mafia man working out of his garage with nothing but used earphones found in the trash coupled with decade-old piano wire wrapped in saran. They no longer carry the signature comfort of Apple's ear buds, and their appearance was a half-hearted attempt at emulation. THIS PRODUCT IS a humiliation and a shame to Apple. (I doubt that such shoddiness would ever be approved by Apple, for that matter I doubt they are even aware that their name is being tarnished in such blatent poor taste and that the producers of this product, whom was most definitely NOT Apple Inc. is using it's name to fool it's customers into falsely relating this trash product to the quality that Apple is known for).

The point of this review is that for what I've gotten, from the vendor "MyGift," at 6.99, should have been worth 3.99 for it's relative lack of quality of which I expected from an Apple product (if it is indeed a legit Apple product). As a consumer I feel fooled into buying something I thought had quality, but ultimately didn't. Also, as a consumer I feel obliged to watch out for my fellow consumers to not make the same mistake I did in falling for this riotous lie. Do not be fooled or enticed by the low price, as you end up getting less than what you paid for, as you should invest your money elsewhere.

While I cannot speak on behalf of the other vendors, I am certain MyGift is 100% NOT the place to go to buy Apple earbuds (as due to their piss-poor quality, it will start falling apart by next week, or maybe even month, if I'm lucky), nor would I suggest doing business with them for any other product.

MyGift: Either shape up your product or take the "Apple" out of the name, you've gone tarnishing their reputation for long enough. Apple In-Ear Headphones (White)

Everyone knocks these, but I think they sound pretty good for the price. You just can't get really good earbuds in this range. Yes, there's not much bass, but they are bright and clear compared to the competition. Unfortunately, they hurt to wear. When I do find an almost comfortable fit, they fall out. Completely useless for exercise and not good for long listening. Somebody should make covers for these -- like the ear jams (which do not fit the new earbuds).

Update: After time, these get more comfortable -- or perhaps I figured out a better way to wear them. Those who say the sound is bad have not tested similarly priced buds. None are great in this price-range, but these are more than adequate for most listeners and better than most. True, bass is limited, but that's mostly the type of bud. You'll get better bass with a plug that fits into your ear canal -- although not from one this price.

i've been using this for 2 yrs. About 2 wks ago, the sound in the right ear bud became thinner. But 2 yrs is not bad, especially since is not expensive. They fit into my ear well, never falls out while i'm working out. The sound quality is not bad, if u r not very particular about getting the ear bud with the best sound, this one definitely works. Overall i like it, i'm getting another one. - Apple - Headphones - Ipod Accessories - Earphones'

Sims 3

So I was a dummy and bought the latest The Sims 3 "Stuff Pack" called "Town Life Stuff."

Total waste of time and money, as usual. "Stuff Packs" are a couple useless trinkets for $20. In this case, they also added the washing machines that I *already bought* from The Sims 3 online store. So, that was another complete waste of money.

Therefore, EA has taught me a valuable lesson: I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THE ONLINE STORE or STUFF PACKS AGAIN.

Also, when I installed, they patched my game to version 1.23. However, none of the official delta patches I could find links to will upgrade from 1.23 to the latest, 1.24. So, this required me to download the 680.2MB comprehensive patch.

Recommendation: update the base game to 1.24 before installing this. You'll probably only need a ~90MB delta patch.

Better recommendation: Don't buy this.

When will diehards stop buying Stuff Packs? This one just did. A couple hairstyles, touched-up venues, and a paltry few outfits. All for just $20. Oh, look, it's a much better deal than buying from the online store. Yes, it is. But just because a terrible deal is better than a horrible deal doesn't negate the fact that it's still a terrible deal!

By the way, this Stuff Pack only takes up 133MB on the DVD-ROM it's shipped on. The other 1.7GB is for Mac + PC patches to get you to 1.23, which you probably don't want if you can help it. The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff

Yep ...

So I am a true die hard sims player. I play a couple hours daily (or every other day).

This pack is probably the worse stuff pack since fastlane.

Very few things, I think a few outfits, a couple hair styles, some items and some new public places.

The public places are nice, the Gym, restaurant, a park, Laundry mat & Library, I all liked those (there is also a new produce store and another store I believe)

They are nice but really something that any avid player can create.

The new items are alright but there is only about 15 or so (if that)

I am pretty disappointed in this one. I think I might not get stuff pack anymore, seems to be a bit of a waste. I dont mind buying it if there is more items but this is very little.

There is a reason for my review title; let me start by saying that I really do love playing the Sims 1, 2, & 3 and even if the last few stuff packs had crappy 'stuff' (Outdoor Living being the worst for me, personally), I did not have to think twice about buying this one. That being said, this stuff pack didn't redeem any high marks from me either. I am still the highest rater for this particular stuff pack with a whopping three stars (so far, as of July 31st), but I'm pretty bias toward this game, as a whole. That's my disclaimer.

Anyway, here's the reason for my review title: Women Sims get about 4 shirts in their general wardrobe, men get the same (but the clothes are rather hideous, as usual), and you get a little under 20 new items to 'decorate' your town. That equals about 25 new items for $20. The preloaded buildings (five in all; a library, a laundromat, a cafe called Nibbles that serves nauseating food to your celebrity Sim just about EVERY TIME, a gym, and a Prep school for kids)-- two being 'rabbit-holes.' The buildings are pretty, but with the exception of the Prep school, I have seen better looking buildings in Custom Content, but I would never suggest downloading CC unless you're comfortable with it.

So I liked the game enough to purchase it (at a discount from Amazon, of course), but I knew this was only a filler for the time-gap between now and Pets to arrive in October. Therefore, you should probably wait to buy the bulk at a discount or if you are a die-hard, you can buy it now but don't expect anything that you can't get from the Sims 3 website.

And the washer/dryer is the same item offered for sale in the store (so please don't be fooled by the "all-new" washer/dryer combo on the front packaging either).

Town Life Stuff is a waste of money. I was hoping it would have revamped the town, but it's basically just a download of new community properties that you have to place yourself. Most of the community properties, like a grocery store, the town already has. There were 2 new adult female hair styles, a couple of outfits, and that's about it. It definitely is not worth the price.

Shame on the other reviewers? No, shame on me...I specifically vowed NOT to buy another stuff pack for the Sims 3 since buying the very first one released and being highly disappointed. But as soon I got the email for this release, I pounced on it. Darn my weakness for all things Sims!!!

EA, once again, leads players astray with false advertising. You see cool looking buildings in the TL pics released that make you think, "Ugh, finally. Some better build/buy stuff". Wrongo. There are 3 new rabbit-holes and 7 pre-built lots that could look a little better in my opinion. They threw in a new washer/dryer set, a sink, and some other dilley dallies not worth mentioning...Matter of fact, there are about two or three new doors/windows. That's it.

I caught on to the scheme of things with Sims 3 early on after the release of the base game. The EPs and Stuff packs just don't have anything on the ones released for Sims 2. They were truly worth buying. It seems like this go around, EA's more concerned on milking the game for what it's worth by releasing a little bit here and there and still charging an arm and a leg for it. Although, I'll give it to them. I'm not highly disappointed like I was over the other stuff pack I bought. I'm just... disgusted. *sigh*

This pack is quite different from ones in the past - it focuses on enhancing the town, not your house.

The good thing about the new buildings (cafe, gym, laundromat, etc.) is that they are small lots (20 x 30), with the exception of the school. You can either replace some buildings in an existing town or make room for all. If you choose to have two schools in the area, it works like real life - your Sim goes to the one closest to his/her house. However if your Sim works at the school, he/she now has the option for which school he/she would like to work.

Of course there are new objects that you can use even at home - tread mill, lap top, washer, dryer, etc. alongside a couple of new hairstyles and clothes.

For a stuff pack, it is what it is supposed to be - stuff. Nothing extremely big (ex: seasons, new neighborhoods) should ever be expected from one because that is the expansion pack's job.

Overall, it is not the worst thing ever (it's only $20); you may find it boring if you have no interest in bettering your town.

I do not regret buying it, but I give it only three stars because it was a good concept, but having just buildings (but upgraded) we already have in the game should not have been it. They should have had those but a couple of really new buildings like a bowling alley. Also why there are new items as mentioned, they are not anything brand new or bigger.'

Panasonic 50 Inch Plasma

The picture quality of this TV is simply excellent. Compared it with more expensive Panasonic "Infinite Black" G model and it's impossible to see the difference in real video content. You need to be in total darkness and have very high quality, low noise signal with large swatches of black and put them side to side to notice a slightly darker black in G models. Of course, just watching TV you will never think I wish blacks were deeper.

I've watched HD programs over the air, from blu-ray, Netflix from Roku, and from PC over HDMI. All modes 480/720/1080 progressive and interlaced displayed perfectly, and TV did a good job upscaling lower resolution to native 1080. No problems with motion, no blurring, no color fading or runoffs. TV does have a slightly lower moving picture resolution 900 lines (vs 1080 lines in top models), but it's quite impossible to notice that without measurements. So sports viewers will be satisfied. Also, on a positive side, the screen is not as glossy as the majority of other plasmas, so reflections are subdued.

I've been using this set for a few days now, so I can't comment on "image retention" problems that previous generations had. Supposedly the phosphors used in this set are improved from previous year, and reportedly they last longer. Just be sure you turn on the "pixel orbiter" to avoid burning in the logos and avoid prolonged display of static images. You can also run "scrolling bar" once a day for 15 minutes for the first week to age the phosphors evenly. Not all plasma owners believe a break-in period is necessary for the later generations of plasma TVs, and no plasma manufacturers now suggest their sets require break-in.

The description Amazon (and it looks now they removed it) seemed to suggest that TV had a built-in Wi-Fi. It doesn't, you need to buy a separate Wi-Fi USB adapter for that. Due to lack of adapter I cannot tell if IPTV and DLNA are working as expected. The other negative is common to all plasmas, which is high power consumption. You don't find this information advertised anywhere, because this set is rated at a whopping 339W. The built-in audio is weak, it has two tiny 10W speakers. It's fine for casual watching TV programs, but if you want to watch movies you probably want to invest in a separate audio system.

This TV may lack all the bells and features you can find in more advanced models, but it does deliver an excellent picture at a very reasonable price and that what matters most.

Edit 5-8-2011. I installed USB Wi-Fi adapter (Netgear N600) to test the Viera Tools. I didn't find them very useful though. It has Netflix client, but picture quality is poor (compared to Roku on the same network). Then there is CinemaNow, which I never used. Amazon Video on demand looks OK. I don't have any use for Pandora, Napster, or Facebook, so I can't comment. There is also Media Player for SD and USB cards, works pretty well. I popped in an SD card from Panasonic camcorder and picture was pretty good, no conversion was necessary. And finally, there is DLNA client, which I couldn't make to work. I does find the DLNA server, but connection always fails. Panasonic VIERA TC-P50S30 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

I have only had this set for a few days now, still in the 200 hour break in period. With the occasional pumping back up the contrast and brightness to get an idea on how everything will really look once the 200 hour break in is over.

One thing that I like about the TV is the Matte finish on the screen. It still reflects, but I have had a sliding door without a drape over it for a couple days and the reflection, while there, was greatly reduced over my last set. Last set Mitsibushi, 54inch, rear projection HDTV. So the screen itself does well with reflections overall. Perhaps there are better.

I originally bought this for $999 at best buy. It's now $899 here at Amazon. 4 days after my purchase. GET IT!!!!

Picture Quality so far:

As I have said, I am breaking in. For those that don't know what this is, but it's what you SHOULD DO, you run the TV with no static images for up to 200 hours and the contrast and brightness turned down. My contrast is about 25. My brightness is about 45. Occasionally I have raised the contrast up to check movies or video games, but only up to 50 contrast, and brightness up to about 65. This will help prevent image retention/burn in and improve the lifetime of the tv and over all picture quality. I also did this with my rear projection as well, and never had burn in issues, even with video games. I hope this tv will not have much of a burn in problem. But the TV provides 2 things in addition to help that.

To prevent and or fix burn in, this tv gives you the ability to turn on your screen and that the screen will slowly move around and position itself so standing pixels will at least move. Such as those logos on video games, or games with HUDs, or bullet counts, or on screen maps in the bottom corner of the game. In addition to that, there is also a 15 minutes moving white bar pattern that is supposed to help remove burn in. I have tried it but since I don't have burn it, I can't tell you if it works.

I hooked up the XBox 360 with HDMI and as soon as I turned it on, I saw an immediate improvement over my last TV, which I still think is a good TV. But I got some WOW factor here. Small Text is amazingly crystal clear and readable. Everything just looked sharp and detailed. And this is just moving around the XBox Menus.

Watched the 2012 John Cusak end of the world movie over Netflix. WOW!!!! Again, my settings are far from optional, and the detail was amazing. LA slipping into the pacific never looked so good. All those little details. Grant it, the source material, the movie, is exceptional when it comes to computer generated imagery, but this set seems to really steps up to the challenge of reproducing it.

Refresh rate: 600Hz. <- this is the main reason I decided on Plasma. This helps make 2012 look amazing, and it also helps if you play video games or watch sports.

Then I played some Red Dead Redemption, just a bit. WOW!!!! factor again. The graphics are pretty good in this game. And I have played it quite a bit on the old tv. The old TV was Component Hook Ups and only 1080i max. Now with this Plasma, it's HDMI, and 1080p, which the XBox and Read Dead Redemption can support. Again, the details were amazing. Colors very nice. (remember, my settings are way below even normal). Very smooth camera turning. I was riding along, and the sun started coming up over the horizon. The stars were twinkling away. Then the first rays of light hit the ground. And the shadows were long, as the sun passed between tree branches. OMG!!! It looked really really good. What an upgrade. My old TV wasn't cheap, $2300 back in 2000. It could preform. But this Panasonic just rocks it out of the water.

Sound. The speakers are small on this. I suggest Bass +4, Treble +1. Adding a little more Bass to your sound output will fatten up the sound enough and not give you such a tinny sound. My optimal viewing will be through a sound system though.

I like the SD card feature and the hook ups. Will even take a Keyboard.

Tried the Network connection and used their version of NETFLIX in the Viera section. I found NETFLIX to be a little slow compared to the XBox 360 with Netflix. Slow when moving around the menus. But no biggie, the movies played just fine. Has Facebook and Twitter, but I don't plan on using those. The Network features I may not use much at all. But it's still pretty cool if you want options to do so.

This is an early review. I am giving the set 4 stars. Not for anything being wrong with it though. I have seen so few reviews for this particular set, about none, just thought I'd get this up there.

I have it on the supplied base unit. Easy to install. Heavyish though, but lift-able by one person.

I like this TV. Plasma was for the video games and sports viewing. But Plasma is more susceptible to burn in with video games and static scores and logos. So I am taking the time to break this tv in. But you should get some WOW factors if you purchase this TV.'

Nintendo Dsi - handheld, portable game system

Pros:

+Bigger and slightly brighter screen

+New interface is easy to navigate

+DSi Ware is a nice implementation

+Digital camera to take photos with

+Internal memory and SD card slot are nice for storing data

+Downloaded games are inexpensive and the service has a lot of potential

Cons:

-Photos taken on camera only really look good on the DSi screen

-Shorter battery life

-Web browser isn't the greatest

-The lack of a GBA slot means you can't play GBA games, use some of the DS Lite's accessories (such as a rumble pack) and makes some games like Guitar Hero World Tour virtually unplayable

In 2004, Nintendo released the original Nintendo DS. Just two years later, the Nintendo DS Lite debuted and was better than the original by far. Since its original release, the Nintendo DS has gone on to sell more than 100 million units worldwide. With sales numbers like that, why would Nintendo need to release another revamp of their prized handheld? More than that, are the new features worth picking up if you have a DS Lite or if you still have an original DS? Well, it can be, but if you're perfectly content with your original DS or your DS Lite there's nothing wrong with that, and you don't have to buy it. That's not to say it would be a bad investment. For some it might be worth it.

Certainly if you still have the original DS, it is worth investing in this newer update. There are quite a few new things about the Nintendo DSi that can make it worth buying. One of the first changes that is obvious from the moment you see it is that it's slightly smaller and designed a little differently. The power button has been moved and now doubles as a reset button. The screen is also slightly bigger and brighter than the DS Lite. When turning it on, there is also a notable difference in the interface which has been completely reworked all together. It's been made a bit easier to use.

Perhaps the biggest and most notable difference is that the DSi no longer has a slot to play Gameboy Advance games. If you're still playing your GBA games a lot, this is probably a pretty big subtraction when it comes to the DSi, no matter how much it includes. If you're someone who hasn't used your DS for playing GBA games in a while, it's probably not a big deal, but I would've gladly taken a slightly thicker handheld just to maintain the GBA slot. There is, however, a slot for an SD card to store more data. The first of these is the wi-fi service which you can get on and download some downloadable games for the DSi. Much like the Wii, you'll spend points (100 points is equal to one dollar) to buy games. There's also the built in web browser, but this is not something to jump up and down over really, as it isn't a very good web browser.

The camera is a nice addition, allowing you to customize and mess around with the pictures you take. They don't look good on anything but the DSi screen, however, but you can store them on an SD card or the DSi's internal memory. You can take quite a bit of photos, and mess around with them in interesting ways, such as drawing on them or manipulating faces. It can be fun to mess around with.

While the new additions are nice the more expensive price is a bit much for those who are already carrying a DS Lite. There are some new features but there isn't too much done here to enhance the gaming experience itself outside of a larger screen. However, that doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile. The download service in particular can be very worthwhile in the future. The games on the download service also aren't too expensive. In short, even DS Lite owners might find it worth the extra money after a while.

Another big hit to the DSi is that the battery life just isn't as long as the previous incarnations. For those wanting to use it primarily for gaming, it might surprise you that the DSi will need to be charged a lot more frequently, as the battery last five hours shorter than that of the DS Lite. It takes a bit shorter to charge as a result, but you'll find yourself charging it quite a bit, especially if you play with the screen on the brightest settings.

In the end some may wonder if the upgrade is worth it. It's a bit more expensive than the DS Lite and doesn't have a GBA slot and a shorter battery life. However, you are getting some nice extra features, and with Nintendo planning to implement them in some of their games in the future, it's at least worth consideration. DS Lite owners may not need to upgrade immediately, but in the future it might be worth considering. If you don't own a DS at all, the DSi is probably the best bet.

The Nintendo DSi is a nice step in the evolution of Nintendo's handheld. It has a lot of new features that can go a long way. Even DS Lite owners might want to consider updating at some point, but it still stands: if you're content with your DS Lite or original DS you don't have to get it. It's certainly worth considering, though. Nintendo DSi Matte - Black

INTRODUCTION:

I was getting this system, as an adult gamer, with the intention of playing games, and to use this as a browser for when I am away from home. I do not play Game Boy Advance games, although my daughter does. I have to warn parents looking into this system that there is no slot for Game Boy Advance (GBA, for short) or the Guitar Hero interface. This system is by no means a major upgrade with the exception of being able to download games or take photographs.

WHAT IS IN THE BOX:

Console

Two styli

Instructions

Plug

Taking this item out, I proceeded to protect the screen with a screen protector. I purchased a DSi Starter Kit to give me cases for cartridges, extra styli and a carrying case.

CONSTRUCTION:

The Nintendo DSi comes in a matte finish with a smooth texture. The touch screen measures 2.5 inches. An internal microphone is placed in the center just under the top screen. A rubber cover secures the port for the SD card. A slot for the DS games is in the same spot, as previous generations. Volume control is by a +/- switch, unlike the sliding volume switch of the DS phat. An LED indicator notifies you that the WiFi radio is on.

The keypad buttons feel firm not mushy.

The power button also serves as a reset button. This is convenient when switching from one cartridge to the next or when switching from the internet to the main menu. The directional buttons, X, Y, A, B, and L, R are in the similar neighborhood as prior generations.

The matte finish is fingerprint-proof but I have a feeling it is not scratch proof. The screens are very glossy and may create a perceptible glare in bright lights or outdoor settings. The case opens up to nearly flat.

I was disappointed that the plug was not a matching black color. It was more of a grayish white.

SETUP:

I set up the DSi with the pre-existing charge from the factory to enter my name, a phrase, the parental controls with a PIN, accessed my Club Nintendo account, and downloaded the Opera Browser.

The DSi recognizes handwriting (not really "Doctor's Handwriting", like mine) or uses the keyboard. The handwriting boxes give a choice of what you are trying to write but it is slow. Typing is faster but cumbersome.

Setting up the browser is hidden in the Tools Menu. You can toggle the WiFi radio on or off. When you set up the internet, it is a matter of choosing what type of encryption your router uses. I use WEP so I entered the "Hexadecimal" key which was quite long - no paraphrasing is allowed. Once my information was entered, it connected rather quickly. When I logged into Club Nintendo, I had to read the `license agreement', agree and then the firmware was upgraded. That took about 2-3 minutes and then the system had to be restarted. As soon as the technicalities were completed, I was ready to download the Free Opera Browser.

When you link your DSi account with the online Club Nintendo account, you get 160 coins that can be applied to acquiring products.

BATTERY LIFE

When compared to the DS, the battery life is less. When you factor in the wireless capability, it is even shorter in life. So, if you are not in a `hotspot' or have access to a wireless network, then shut it off to conserve battery life.

THE CAMERA

The 0.3 megapixel cameras are toggled by the touchpad's `switch' button. When you take a photograph, you can edit it with the various programs and save it to your album. I find it fun to edit photos and allow morphing (from the adult perspective) and I will likely use my photo for an avatar for various websites. For casual photography, this will not be too useful given the low resolution. Its purpose is solely for entertainment and DSi-type photo-editing.

Photos can be shared only 2 ways, wirelessly to other DSi units within 65 feet or by the SD/SDHC Card. It cannot be emailed through your browser.

No video can be recorded.

SOUND QUALITY

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding unlike the iPods which are MP-3 players (Motion Pictures Expert Group, Layer 3). AAC is a lossy compression format, that some experts say may have better sound quality than an MP3. To me, they sound virtually identical. How do you convert to AAC? If you use iTunes:

Highlight the songs to convert (Control and Left Mouse Click)

Click Advanced

Select "Create AAC Version".

I would recommend highlighting the song and renaming it "Song A AAC" so you can search for AAC version on iTunes, utilizing the finder bar. I select/highlight the songs in iTunes, and then "pasted" them into my SDHC card. The DSi automatically finds the `music' files but I was able to listen to the audio portion of my videos that I recorded from my HD Camcorder.

Sound quality from native speakers is quite good and it has `stereo sound'. Will I find myself using this as a music player? Unlikely. You can alter the music to play fast/slow or high/low pitch. Another fun thing is to choose `visualizations' while listening to music - which can be toggled with the `ring on a string icon'. Lastly, there are `percussion effects' that are activated by your Left and Right keys: Clapping, tambourines, drums, Dog/cat sounds, etc.

You can also record 10 second 'sound clips' which can be stored on a memory card. It cannot be assigned to a photograph.

SCREEN QUALITY / BRIGHTNESS

Default is on a setting of 4, which is brighter than the DS Phat (which is what my daughter uses). The size of the screen is larger and the subjective quality of the graphics looks better to me. I don't personally think it does anything for gameplay, aside from aesthetics. However, I do like the larger screen.

WEB BROWSING / PARENTAL CONTROLS

Download time of the browser was 2 minutes.

With regards to a Wii Points card, if it is unused, it can be used in the DSi shop. However, it cannot be transferred back to the Wii, so be careful. There is not a lot in terms of choices of DSiWare to download, at this time. You can have a maximum of 20,000 points on your account. Points can be added by a pre-paid card or using a credit card ($10 for 1000 points, $20 for 2000 points and $50 for 5000 points).

The choices are below (I chose none of them):

500 points

Warioware

Aqua

200 points

Bird and Beans

Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face

800 points

Brain Age Express: Math

Limitations of the browser:

No Flash, Animations, Sound, Video, PDFs or anything requiring a plug-in

Video playback

Use of the browser:

Like conventional browsers, you can set up your home page, add favorites or enter your URL. There are shortcut keys like "WWW" or ".COM" to make it less painful. There is an overview setting or `column view' setting, as well as navigation or zoom view. I was actually able to load my Amazon profile, although it took nearly 45 seconds. I found that conventional websites can be viewed, albeit slowly, when compared to a PC. It is about average for a handheld (like my old Palm Tungsten C PDA). Realistically, you can check movie times, email, news and weather. Beyond any of those functions, loading times of websites would make the tasks cumbersome.

A bit of advice for you, do a Google search for "Mobile Friendly" websites that have limited graphics which are suited to browsing with items such as the DSi, Pocket PCs, Palms, or "Smartphones" (for example, eboogie, phonefavs or gahtan are a few sites that have that capability). With sites like these, you can check a lot more information quickly and efficiently. Loading time is a fraction of the full featured sites.

Parental controls:

Parental controls can be set by a 4 digit PIN. If you forget your PIN, you can get a `secret question' to unlock this unit. This can control many parameters including the following: Access to Nintendo DSi Exclusive and Compatible Software (ESRB Ratings), PictoChat, DS Download Play, Nintendo DSi Browser, Nintendo DSi Shop, Photo Exchange, and User-Generated Content. You don't want your child to download games, use the internet or chat, you can toggle what features to enable or disable. Very nice!

SD AND SDHC CARDS

The DSi can recognize up to 2 GB on an SD card and 32 GB on an SDHC card. No SD or SDHC card is included with this system.

Games cannot be played from the SDHC cards but they can be stored. Aside from that, photos and audio can be stored onto the cards.

PROS

Faster processor and more RAM than the DS Lite (for improved future applications)

Bigger Screen than the DS Lite

Digital Camera

Records audio clips

SDHC Card capability up to 32 GB

Faster internet browsing than prior generations of DS (per report)

Downloadable gaming capability

1000 DS Points, included until October 2009

Supports Firmware updates

Better sound than its predecessors

CONS

Shorter battery life than its predecessor, the DS Lite (less if the WiFi radio is on)

No Gameboy Advance Slot

Higher cost than the DS Lite

As of April 2009, there are only 6 applications to download (but more are coming)

No DSi specific titles with the release of the DSi platform

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Teenagers

Adults

Older children, 8 and above, given the size of DS cartridges and fragility of the touch screen

VERDICT

If you already have a DS Lite, don't bother upgrading, for now. This is not worth the $60 depreciation for trade in and you lose your ability to play Guitar Hero and other Game Boy Advance Games.

If you don't have a gaming console, this is a solid platform to play games, listen to music (casual basis), make Avatars for your discussion groups/forums and use a somewhat functional web-browsing experience (especially, away from home, as in a free public "Hotspot").

If you do casual surfing on the net for news, weather, or email, this can do this function fairly well (especially if you use PDA/Mobile Friendly websites). This function, alone, is worth the $169 to me since it is like a little "Netbook" with regards to internet functions (no word processing or other PC functions).

The larger screen and improved sound (compared to the 1st generation DS Phat), is up by leaps and bounds. The future ability to download applications, will further secure its place in the pantheon of modern gaming.

UPDATE 4/14/2009

You cannot log onto Webkinz World (my daughter wanted to know).

UPDATE 5/9/2009

I tried using the WIFI on the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL and the network connection did not work (using internet set up).

UPDATE: 5/12/2009

Well, I finally found a game that I was interested in getting with my 'free points'. I bought Real Soccer 2009 which is quite detailed. The download took about 4 to 5 minutes. I am glad I didn't settle for the other games, since they weren't inspiring. - Portable Game System - Handheld - Dsi - Nintendo'
