Insulated Curtain - curtains, draperies

The shipping was fairly quick, considering where they come from. The quality is wonderful. I bought 2 more for another room. The communication on shipment kept me updated on when to expect them, so I felt comfortable about the cost. Outdoor Fire Pit - fire pit, outdoor fire pit

It's true! I like s'mores. This little workhorse of a fire pit yields both excellent s'mores and excellent conversations. You need to make sure you keep the fire small or it'll scorch the top of the grating, but all in all I can't complain. Before you buy please note that the item requests sand in the bottom or the ashes will corrode the metal. For two people who only own a scooter it would've been beneficial to know this before we opened it up just in time for our housewarming. ;)

Since we live in dry Southern California we were concerned about having a fire pit, but it works wonderfully and doesn't make us overly concerned about embers flying around. We do caution against large pieces of wood, and instead we opt for the little tiny pre-cut logs that you can get at the grocers. Landmann USA 28240 Halo Fire Pit

This is a fantastic fire pit as I have seen many less quality ones at higher prices especially during this time of the season. This is sturdy, large and made to last because it is very solid. It is a 3 piece set (made in China); the base, the lid and the fire rod are all included. The pictures online don't really do this justice. Just keep in mind Amazon ships it in the original manufacturer's box so if you're ordering a gift and doing bill-to/ship-to just know that the recipient will know what's included. - Outdoor Fire Pit - Outdoor Fireplace - Fire Pit'

Scholastic Teaching Resources - childrens books, beginning reading

I add words to my son's "sight word" list when we come across a word that is hard to sound out or he is having trouble with and I see that it has been coming up a lot in his readings. Well, some of the words on my son's list show up on this book's 3rd grade list. This seems silly to me since he is entering 1st grade and reading on his grade level.

I don't think this book challenges the reader as I had expected. 100 Words Kids Need to Read by 1st Grade: Sight Word Practice to Build Strong Readers

We have used several books for the kids and this one is perfect. I got 3 for my first, second, and third grader and the book is exactly what they needed. I will say that I need to get a 4th or fifth grade book for my third grader, but she is a little advanced. But these books are great for learning the sight words. They do different activities throughout the book to keep them interested.

My son struggled in kindergarten with reading so we decided to focus this summer on making sure he is ready for 1st grade. Its been helpful that to have a defined list and this book works well as a supplement to the summer bridge book we have and provides the added focus on reading. I wish there were more activity pages for each word group, mostly because they are presented in ways that connect the word with use in a sentence rather than a single word and a picture or two. - Scholastic Teaching Resources - Beginning Reading - Childrens Books'

Samsung Vibrant - charger, galaxy s

This charger works great and cheap too. Also when you get it don't throw away the little plastic bag that looks like junk ads. Its a tiny metal stripped chip that you stick on the inside of your phone under the battery to boost signal strength. It works great. I would only get 1 or 2 bars in my house, now I have full bars most of the time. Its great, just read the instructions on how to do it. Samsung T959 Vibrant Galaxy S Car Charger

Shipment was fast. Product does the job and it fits and works perfectly with my samsung vibrant for a cheap price. I would highly recommend it. I haven't had any problems yet. Under product description it lists that this charger also has a chip to boost signal strength. I havent seen any improvements on my bars or reception ( i checked signal strength while the charger was plugged in VS. not plugged in to the car using the phones Settings > Status > Signal Strenth and did not see any change in dBM or asu) Other than this, its a great product, and its cheap.

Unfortunately the charger doesn't properly connect in the car so half the time it isn't charging. A real bummer as it will cost me as much to send it back as it did to buy it. I hate contributing to landfill.

Very bad charger. Does NOT fit all the way into the charger port on the phone. I have a Samsung Vibrant (SGH-T959). Also, the quality of the craftsmanship leaves a lot to be desired....DO NOT GET THIS....VERY loose charging connection because it was not manufactured properly for the vibrant. Sad considering that the seller claims that it is specifically for the vibrant.

i thought this was a great buy at the price i got it for, however, the phone charger end that goes into the phone was too long for the socket. this would have been fine if it stayed in the socket but it kept falling out. It also did not charge when it was in the socket.

one star would indicate an item that was sub par. I would give this zero stars if i could because it simply did not work. - Samsung Vibrant - Charger - Car Chargers - Galaxy S'

Apple - wireless, mac

The beauty of Apple is the simplicity of their products - the Mac, the iPod, everything just works without having to consult Carl Sagan, Neil Armstrong or Miss Cleo.

A note to those wanting to go wireless with an older computer: The Airport Card and the Airport Extreme Card are two different critters. They look different and this card will not work on older Macs fitted for the standard Airport card. Apple doesn't even sell the old Airport cards anymore. If you have an older Mac and want to get more speed, you cannot hotwire it to do more with the newer card - you'll just blow a gasket on your Mac.

If you're adding a new computer to your existing Airport-based network and are underwhelmed by the performance, you may be using an original Airport Base Station - these older models maxxed out at 11bps, where the new ones max out at 54bps - a nearly 500% increase in network access speed.

This is NOT the model to get for a Mac Mini. The Mac Mini has a different form factor and has a slot for a special Airport & Bluetooth combo card that this card will not work with.

Installation is a snap - literally. Pop it into place and attach the antenna cord and you've got WiFi. I installed one of these on my older 1Ghz iBook G4 and instantly saw all the wireless networks in my neighborhood. Viva la Macintosh! Apple M8881LL/A AirPort Extreme Card

The wireless revolution has seriously altered the way I work. It didn't seem like it was that big of a deal, to be able to work anywhere in the house on a laptop. And then I was home over Thanksgiving and tried my father's - it was incredible. So, soon after I had my own and I love it - I even ended up getting another one for my wife's laptop. Whether it's browsing amazon.com late at night in bed, checking morning email in the kitchen while the kids run around, or being able to set up a writing desk anywhere in the house without worrying about an accessible internet port - the airport system is awesome. Even if you only have a desktop computer it's worth it - you can to put the computer in a place where there's no internet plug, without the 40 foot cord draping your wall to connect it. All in all, a wireless system may seem extravagant, but once you have one you'll wonder how you got by without it. The airport card, along with the base station, allows you to connect several computers, even ones that don't have wireless cards in them (i.e., we have two laptops on the wireless system, and then one iMac that doesn't have an airport card is plugged directly into the base station). You can print, scan - anything - wirelessly, as long as those extra components are connected to the base station. If you have a big house and the base station won't be centrally located, you may want to look into the antenna. I have a 2500 square foot house and the base station is at one end of it. I can get access from anywhere in the house without the extra antenna, though in one or two places it's a weak signal. My father's house, on the other hand, is over 5000 square feet and the base station is at a far end - you can't even get a signal on the other side of the house. However, he purchased the antenna and the signal is now very strong wherever you are. A warning - you should make sure your airport network is password protected, especially if you get the antenna. The signal will be broadcast through half your neighborhood and if not protected, people can get on and use your airtime, clogging up your bandwidth.Make sure you get the right card! There's the airport extreme card and the regular airport card (I believe they are both compatible with either base station). Check Apple's website for direct compatibility between your computer and the two different cards. They are different sizes and will only fit in the right kind of slot. One final word - I've heard from others that certain products from Net Gear or other wireless manufacturers accomplish the same thing as the airport card and base station for much cheaper. I can't attest to the validity of this, but it might be worth looking into. I'd exercise extreme caution, since if you go with Apple products it will be covered with tech support, even if it's more expensive. And putting third party hardware in your computer will likely void the warranty on your computer.

Apple, once again, delivers yet another fantastic product. After doing my research to find a 3rd party wirless unit, I found I had no choice but to buy the Airport Extreme card for my imac G5. I'm using a Linksys Router and It works perfectly. I made the mistake of installing the card first then plugging in the antenna. If you install this be sure to plug in the antenna first making sure the plug is all the way in from tip to collar (which takes a little force) and then insert the card securly in it's seat. If you don't get a very strong signal look at the card and antenna again as it more than likely isn't in all the way. It's very easy to install so If you are comfortable opening up your computer do it yourself. Once you have it installed that's all, go to your airport icon and make sure it's on... and that's it! You're up and running! Easy as Plug in and go! - Airport Extreme - Airport - Mac - Wireless'

Planet Dog - dog toy, green

I bought one of theses and they last very well. My dog could destroy a tennis ball in two days and ruin his teeth at the same time. So this was a great alternative but be careful because I bought two and my dog likes to carry two balls at once, except there's one problem. These balls are bigger than a tennis ball and they get VERY slippery when wet so when he tried to jam the second one he actually pushed it down his throat. I almost lost him but I was able to get it out. Over all its a great toy, just use with caustion. Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Fetch Ball, Green

I have 2 German Shepherds, and found that the Orbee Fetch Ball is the greatest ball that can be found. I have tried other balls, and yes, they play with them, but once the Fetch ball is out, they automatically drop whatever ball they have, and go immediately for the Orbee. It truly is an awesome ball since it bounces off trees, fences, etc, making playing and retrieving the ball all the more fun for them. I make sure I take in the balls after playing, and have order 4 more as back up, just in case. They love the size, and the SQUEEZABILITY, if you can call that a word, that they experience when the ball is in their mouth. The ball is tough, durable, longlasting, and the best thing made since I can't find the Buddy Ball, which I assume is no longer made. Please Orbee don't stop making these balls. They are the greatest!!!

These balls are good, but there is a hole in them which makes the whistle noise when you throw them. It also gives devious dogs a place to put their canines in and start tearing through the rubber. So, if your dogs are good to toys, this is great, if they like to destroy them, then it's not for you.

Like all the Orbee products I have purchased, this is a quality toy. As the owner of a large, muscular male German Shepherd with a very strong bite, I would issue a couple cautions to other owners of large dogs. The "Fetch" word came off rather easily -- but my dog really likes to disassemble things! The ball itself stayed in tact for a few months before it came apart from being squished in those powerful jaws. Please note that the ball gets very very slippery. I and my other German Shepherd training friends worry that this size ball can get stuck in a dog's throat. Just a word a caution to other owners of big dogs. I will definitely buy larger Orbee balls again, but I think this size is potentially dangerous.

This is an update on an earlier, simpler version. The letters used to be just raised portions of the ball with paint on them. Now the letters are a separate injection of rubber that easily (nearly instantly) gets removed by rover. All I could find was the "F e c", meaning my dog deposited the "t h" on our back lawn. I'm sure they didn't do any harm on their way through. The letters are soft, so they have that going for them. Anyway, dog loves the ball, again. It took six months to destroy her last one and she hasn't even begun to try to wipe this one out. I love all of the Planet Dog stuff.

This is a great ball. Our golden retrievers are ball fanatics and manage to destroy most toys. This ball (we also have the pink one) has been indestructible. They love it - continue to fight over it all the time. It has really held up well.

Maybe i am crazy, but this ball smells like mint. I bought my dog a pink woof also. For some reason she likes the green one the best?? Very good fetch ball, good bounce time, neat hole for treats, cool colors and she hasn't destroyed it. Best looking ball at the dog park. My dog's fav toy

This ball holds up really well to my terrier-mix that chews through everything. The only problem are the words on the ball, as someone already mentioned. Luckily my dog doesn't swallow this stuff, but the 't' did get stuck in her mouth and I had to work to retrieve it. The letters lasted all of about 3 mins on the ball before she pulled them off. Orbee - you need to print them on the ball or remove them! Yikes! Choking hazard indeed! The rubber is squishy and fun when it slips out of her mouth, which also means I can actually take it away it from her too because it's slippery. Never had my dog swallow it, but I could see that potentially being a problem for some dogs. Just beware and watch while playing until you know how your dog handles it. Love it though - it's lasting well!

I have a corgi puppy who is a super power chewer. No toys have ever survived her playful wrath until i got these. So far so good. The rubber is tough so it has not broken to pieces yet...we have had them for a few months and they are still going strong.....DO BE CAREFUL WITH THE LETTERING ON THE BALL THOUGH, THEY RIP OFF EASILY.. I easily solved the problem by removing the letters myself. Once the letters are off they are good to go! I am definitely buying more....oh and they are minty flavored (I did not try them myself, but i can smell the mint on them ;-)) - Tough - Dog Ball - Dog Toy - Green'

Elliptical Trainer - great quality, great value

I have owned a lot of exercise equipment, and the Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer is a very good machine. Unlike some others I have tried, it has a very smooth action, is quiet, and is easy to use. It's also smaller than several other models I've tested, so it fits nicely in most rooms. Further, because it is lightweight and has two front wheels, it's easy to move.

The assembly instructions are not the best, but I've seen much worse. Regardless, it's pretty obvious where most of the parts go. It took me about one hour to assemble by myself, though it would be easier and quicker with two people.

Recently I moved the machine to a different room and one of the front wheel casings cracked. I don't know if this occurred because of a defect or because I went over a bump too quickly. I called the manufacturer (toll-free number) and received prompt and courteous service. When I bought the machine I registered it online, so my information was quickly found by the company representative. I described what happened and the representative was surprised because it was unusual for a wheel casing to break. Nevertheless, without any trouble he promised to ship me a replacement part free of charge (still under warranty). I called on a Friday afternoon and received the part on the next Tuesday. Changing the part (only one screw) was simple and took about two minutes. It's nice to know that there are still some companies that stand behind their products and provide good service to their customers. Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer

For years I've either walked outside or on a treadmill attempting to improve my flexibility and cardio. I never felt comfortable on a treadmill (too narrow) and walking outside always has it's limitations. I've always questioned myself as to whether any of this was working for me. Finally I decided to buy an elliptical. I had heard so many positive reports about these things I felt I had to give it a try. When I first started to look I soon realized there are scores of manufacturers and hundreds of models from which to choose. I needed some way to quickly narrow the field. I decided to check out Consumer Reports. I've gone this route before and have rarely been disappointed. After reading their findings, I decided on this model. They rated it a best buy. I thought about going to several stores to check out all the different models but ultimately decided to shop online. While you can spend several thousand dollars on one of these machines, I decided that I would limit my budget to $1000. It was easy to assemble. The only thing I had trouble with was figuring out the computer. I think the manual could have been written more clearly. Once I mastered the computer, I found the exercise to be fun and challenging. And, when I step off the machine, my knees feel great. I feel energized and my knees don't hurt as with regular walking or the treadmill. The settings on the machine are such that you can tailor your workouts to the level of your skill or fitness. This may take a few sessions before you can get into a routine. Once there, it's fun to keep pushing yourself to do more. And for me, the more I do the better I feel. I'm very pleased with this product. I think it makes exercise fun again.

This product is wonderful! I just recently started using this product and already I've started to feel great! It has very fluid motion and its consistant! I love that it already has preset programs that way I can challenge myself and not stick with the same-ole same ole. Light weight...EVEN BETTER! I can move it from room to room, wether I'm watching T.V or Looking outside! Talking about it makes me want to use it. I recomend this to anyone!

I purchased this machine a few months ago a I couldn't be more satisfied. I'm 6' 220 lbs and it fits me and my wife who is 5' 4" tall, no problem. The Lifecore 985VG is smooth, compact, easy to use and still running as great as when I first got it. I read the review from Consumer Reports on this machine, and they are absolutely right about it. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for the most bang for their buck.

The first unit I received was damaged. Amazon was great and replaced it next day with another damaged unit. Plastic housing was cracked on both of them. I decided to keep the second unit, and Lifecore sent me a replacement plastic housing -- took more than a week to get it though, and I'm not far from their warehouse. The repair was difficult, mainly because there were no instructions. The trick was that I needed to remove all screws on the housing -- both left and right, although I was only replacing the left one. Some screws during manufacture were over tightened, stripping the plastic on the oposite side of the housing. If you choose to buy one, check the plastic housing first, and if damaged, don't mess with it -- return it, and get another one, or a different machine. Machine works great, but what a PITA to get everything straigtened out including returning one of the units to Amazon -- box weighs 130#.

BTW, I wouldn't blame the carrier as one unit was delivered by UPS, the other by FedEx. Seems to me that Lifecore should consult with a packaging engineeer, to ensure that their product can make it to customer homes in good order. - Great Quality - Great Value - Exercise - Fitness'

World Dance New York - dance fitness, bellydance

Did we really need another bellydance-based workout? I wouldn't have thought so, but Neon, as usual, has gone and proven my expectations wrong.

"Luscious" is an exquisitely made program, with more good qualities than I can enumerate. The costumes and setting are gorgeous -- nothing like the typical brightly-lit aerobics studio -- and Neon advises you at the beginning to dress up for it and join the three dancers here in making the movement special. This is the kind of thing that sounds cheesy, but I did it, and it makes sense: how will you forget about bad body image or those extra pounds if you're wearing ugly workout wear? Dressing up makes you feel like you're dancing, not punishing yourself.

The instruction itself is taught in sections themed "Circles," "Infinity Loops," "Undulations," "Hip Accents," "Shimmy," and "Body Line." Each dancer leads two of the sections: she stands at the front and her voiceover describes the movements to be done. What I really like about this is that the sections weren't assigned randomly; instead, each section bears the particular dancer's imprint, and showcases her strengths. It's subtle, but you start to notice that Neon leads complicated, quick-changing combinations, Blanca shows her wonderful, large, and sensuous movements, and Sarah Skinner adds an upbeat Turkish feel to the shimmy section. This made the instructors seem much less like exchangeable dancing bodies, and much more like teachers with particular areas of expertise.

The movements are varied, and quite a few combinations are introduced and repeated from two to six times. This is not a "four of this and four of that" drill. In fact, I would suggest that complete beginners start with a different video. This would be great for advanced beginners like me, who are not expert enough for a complicated choreo with tons of layering, but get bored when everything comes in fours and is repeated ad infinitum.

All along, the dancers offer tips on putting emotion into the steps, on maintaining form, and on making movements deeper and stronger. While the dancing is rarely fast-paced, the slowness of the movements is often more challenging and grueling. The workout made me sweat (though it might not make everyone), but more importantly, it challenged me to maintain grace, form, and muscle control while learning the combinations. I couldn't believe it when the forty-five minutes were over -- it felt like fifteen!

If you have weak knees, you might want to be careful with some of the lunges and plies; on the other hand, there aren't a lot of them, and they're done slowly enough that you can be careful. I'll also repeat the warning that this might be a little hard for complete beginners who aren't already good at picking up choreography. However, the video does have a well-indexed instructional section which describes all the movements used in the workout. As a step up, there's a version of the workout with music alone, and no voice over.

In case my enthusiasm wasn't clear enough, I really think WDNY has a winner with this video. It's simple, but also simple enough to do regularly and to grow into. At the same time, even once you have learned the step combinations, adding graceful arm and handwork (to say nothing of being aware of facial expressions, head positions, and dancer's poise) poses an extra layer of difficulty. And finally, the movements are, quite simply, beautiful. You will be happy to be dancing. Luscious - The Bellydance Workout for Beginners

One of the things that attracted me to this workout is that it advertises itself as being for beginners. This isn't quite true. If you've never done bellydance before, then this is not a DVD for you. It's lovely and lush, and each of the instructors are talented in their own right, but a rank beginner will find the moves hard to follow.

The DVD does include a tutorial section, which is a bonus. I wish, however, that they had filmed it differently. The tutorial appears to be filmed on the same stage on which the workout is performed, when a studio with mirrors to show more angles of Neon (who is the only instructor performing the tutorials) might be more advantageous. Neon is also dressed in a performance costume, which is a bit distracting and which makes it hard to follow sometimes, particularly in traveling moves and the movements of her knees. The tutorial for each move also seems a bit short at times, with more time being devoted to an accompanying clip demonstrating the move's use in the workout.

The workout itself is more satisfying. The vocal prompts are in general quite good, and I particularly like that there is an indication on-screen as to which move or combination is being performed. The workout is balanced and well-paced, building moves from each previous section as it progresses, and the musical accompaniment is appropriate. The angle changes are occasionally odd and distracting, but don't detract too much from the quality of the workout itself.

Although it purports to be for beginners, I would not recommend this as one's first bellydance DVD purchase, unless they've already had some instruction. For those without access to an instructor, it might be better to start with another DVD that better breaks down the basics, such as Bellydance Basics and Beyond: Technique for a Solid Foundation (another World Dance New York title). If you've mastered the basics, though, then this will be a fun, relaxed workout, well worth the money.

"Luscious" is a terrific bellydance instruction DVD geared towards beginners, though intermediate students may enjoy and learn from it too, as Neon, Blanca, and Sarah are superb dancers and teachers, and the choreography is varied enough to find interest and enjoyment for a very long time.

After the "Welcome" by Neon, the dancers guide you through the moves, each taking their turn at being in the front and doing the teaching. There is also the option of a "Step by Step Tutorial," which explains each move in detail, as well as an option to practice just with the music, without the voice-over instructions. The music is marvelous, all with a traditional flavor in its instrumentation and melodies.

Your instructors:

Neon is a stunning blonde born in Russia; a famed dancer, teacher, and choreographer, whose technique is dazzling, and creativity amazing. She has helped bring the art of bellydance to a new level. Blanca is a goddess. Born in Mexico, her sensual style and grace have few equals. Sarah Skinner is a dancer I'm less familiar with, but she is incredibly impressive and beautiful, and fits in well with Neon and Blanca. These 3 dancers are the epitome of "The Three Graces."

"Luscious" is very well produced, and the dancers are filmed in a simple stage setting with excellent lighting, making it easy to discern and follow the movements. The costuming is also lovely, in shades of teal and red, and adds to the visual beauty of the program. This is a great way to learn bellydancing, relieve stress, get your exercise and have fun at the same time. If you want weight loss, many experts agree that the best way to lose is through doing continual movement as is done on this DVD, rather than in aerobics. "Luscious" is a superb DVD for your dance instruction library, and if you're just starting out with bellydancing, it will inspire you to keep practicing and learning. - Bellydance Instruction - Bellydance Dvd - Dance Fitness - Bellydance'

Pendant Necklaces - black diamond, cats

Cute little necklace, but the actual cat charm is very small. I bought this as a replacement for a bigger charm that I lost but its not half as nice as the one I lost. Not horrible, for the price its decent, the chain alone is worth about $15 or so. Black Diamond Accented Coupled Cats Pendant/Necklace in Sterling Silver (0.05 cttw) w/18" Chain

I am very disappointed in this pendant. The stones are very dull...not at all glossy as they appear in the pictures. If the pictures were more realistic, I would never have purchased this pendant.

The pendant, itself, is too small. If you wanted an addition for a charm bracelet or jewelry for a child, this would be appropriate. For an adult to wear as a pendant, a magnifying glass is needed. Again, the pictures misrepresent the product.

I would not purchase again and do not recommend this to others. - Cats - Pendant Necklaces - Black Diamond - Netaya'

First Day Of School - pencil, uniball

I am an office supply nut. I order imported pens from Japan, know all different paper sizing and weighting measures, and own more than a handful of no-staple paper binders. I offer this as my credentials to evaluate this mechanical pencil.

I cycle between using a mechanical pencil or a modern gel ink pen as my daily writing implement. When I saw the Japanese version of this product, I jumped at it, making it the most expensive mechanical pencil I ever owned (I said I am a nut, not that I am a _rich_ nut). This is an "Americanized" version of the same thing. As with many foreign imports, the resulting mass market product is a bit bland and not quite as nice. Plastic housing feels cheaper (compared to metal on the Japanese version), rotating mechanism is a little bit noisier (compared to silent: it is hardly noticeable), and the pencil is a touch bulkier in my hand.

The plastic is a touch too slick (it doesn't feel properly gripped, like it might pop out of my hand) but otherwise it is comfortable to use (haven't used it for long periods yet). The rotating mechanism works, just as advertised. It makes it easy to write tiny little messages. The 0.5mm lead really does feel like 0.3mm most of the time and I never have a slanted edge that cuts through the paper.

So, 4/5 for not being quite as nice as the one I have been using, but again 4/5 because it is affordable and the mechanism really does improve the writing experience. Honest. uni-ball KuruToga Twist and Turn 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil Starter Set (1751934)

I've had this pencil for about 3 weeks now. I'm taking calculus and chemistry this quarter so I do a lot of math and thought this would be the perfect pencil for the job. The kuru toga engine is neato and keeps the tip sharp always. However, after just a few days I noticed stress cracks forming up the clear plastic grip area. Today It broke off right at the base of the clear plastic grip. Its ruined.

Honestly, it felt kind of cheap from the beginning. I was pretty unimpressed for 10 dollars. I'll be keeping my metal zebra from now on.

The kurutoga mechanical pencil has actually been out for a while in Japan. I've ordered a few about two years ago. When I first used them I took notice of the clear grip. As you press the pencil and lift it up from the paper, the kurutoga logo revolves around the barrel's axis, confirming the lead actually rotates.

This pencil will not work as advertised if you write in cursive, and you must lift your pencil between letters or numbers in order for it to work. This was engineered to how you write in japanese, but translates decently to writing in english or other languages. I found this most useful when I was in either japanese school or in calculus class.

The nanodia lead has also been out for a few years. It is great lead, hands down. Its slightly stronger than normal lead; however, it takes longer to wear it down. A full pack of 40 leads lasted me for about one and a half years in school.

The only reason I gave this pencil 4 stars instead of 5, is that the mechanism that rotates the lead can get worn out if you mess with the end of the pencil. Also, you must replace the eraser before it becomes flush with the end or it will become extremely difficult to insert lead.

That said, this is a great mechanical pencil that keeps a uniform thickness.

DOWNS: The first time I started to write with this pencil -I'm not kidding- I felt all the plastic creak and give way under my grip -and I'm a female, physics student; I work in a precision lab all day and I do not have a heavy hand. This pencil simply won't fly with me and the amount of "pencil work" I do all day.

This pencil's engineering might be new and innovative but it's production is weak, cheap and I really expected more out of world renowned, Japanese precision and quality.

If you want, this pencil in a non- plasic, High Grade, high quality (metal) form, do a search for "Uni Kuru Toga HG" and you'll see what I mean. 'comes in at least 2 colors, blue and black body.

UPS: That being said, I'm totally sold on the lead. I got this pencil because it's apparently one of the most celebrated mechanical pencils on Amazon and because I was interested in its revolutionary lead design. And yes, this "Uni-ball Diamond Infused Lead" is TOTALLY worth all the hype and price. I LOVE IT. It does stay sharpe longer; it does provide a cleaner, clearer script and it is very firm and does not break easily. The lead is an Epic, super Win.

MORE DOWNS: But as for the pencil it's self, no way; it's a total Fail. Again, the pencil is all plastic and has no weight to it. It does have that interesting "Twist and Turn" engineering (to keep the lead fresh) but it's value gets lost in all the plastic. Oh, and did I mention the eraser *rolls eyes... -if you can't call it an eraser- It's soooo small and weak! A total after thought, as in, "Hay guys you think we forgot a vital element to this pencil? *crickets chirp.... OH YEAH!!! The eraser!!! ...it's an embarrassment.

Did I mention that this pencil made of mostly plastic?

I must add that I might be a bit spoiled because for the last year or so, I've been using the GraphGear 1000 family (.3mm, .5mm, .7mm and .9mm) of mechanical pencils made by, Pentel from Japan. These are my true lab partners! I use them and love them. They have better weight and balance; have better erasers; have retractable tips; are longer and are all, super sweet metal alloy. -and they will be even better now that I will be re-filling them with "Uni-ball Diamond Infused Lead".

The Kuru Toga engine is a really great idea. I've used it for several days, and I've yet to face some dull lead. The tip stays nice and sharp.

However, what makes this pencil a dealbreaker is the overall design. I felt that uni-ball has really cheaped this one out. Maybe some people will appreciate the design, but I for sure don't. The pencil does come with an eraser, but the eraser is extremely small; it's smaller than the standard eraser that comes with the wooden pencils. Secondly, there is no grip, at least as far as I'm concerned. There is a little circular ring at the bottom, but it's impossible to use it as a grip. It's way tot small and is positioned too low on the pencil. Finally unlike most premium pencils, which have metal clips, the Kuru Toga pencil has a plastic clip. The clip broke off of my pencil within a few days of use.

The bottom line is: If you absolutely NEED a Kuru Toga engine, buy this pencil. Otherwise, avoid it. It is definitely not a premium pencil, despite its price, and I advise others to find a different pencil to use. If uni-ball had put some more thought into this pencil, it could have been a hit product. - Office Supplies - Pencil - Uniball - Uni-ball'

Pencil Sharpner - pencil sharpner, pencil sharpener

My brother and I never used this pencil sharpener much because it didn't sharpen evenly. We kept on using manual sharpeners. If the manual sharpeners broke the tip of the pencil 3 times, we would try our electric one again. Today, my brother sharpened about 20 pencils in a row. The motor just burned out and wouldn't work again. We made sure the plug was connected with the socket. This pencil sharpener also makes a lot of noise. I personally prefer the Panasonic KP-310 sharpener. I haven't tried out any of the other 5-star Panasonic ones. We have a Panasonic KP-310 sharpener at my school. It only burnt out after I sharpened about 4 boxes of colored pencils (300 colored pencils) in a row when helping my teacher. Note: this pencil sharpener has no auto-stop. I would NOT buy this pencil sharpener for the price. It's more worth it to buy a sharpener that not only works, has durability, but works well. Stanley Bostitch Electric Desktop Pencil Sharpener, Black (02695)

This pencil sharpener performs very poorly. While I haven't had the problem with longevity that others have had, I frequently break off the lead of my pencils while attempting to sharpen them. I would not purchase this product again and would strongly urge others to stay away from it.

This was not worth the price at all! At first I thought it was great. It is heavy and sturdy. It worked barely a month and just quit working. Not worth it and not a good product at all. Don't waste your money!

I love this pencil sharpener so much I bought another one for work. As a rule, I find pencil sharpeners so very disappointing - they simply can't hold up to the job: grab that pencil, firm and steady quietly sharpen, and stop when pointed. I have regretfully resigned to the difference between commercial strength and home use. This model is definitely home use as you can tell from other reviews. My husband, a sweet geek, has kept THE commercial sharpener and when I've a serious load to sharpen I turn to our orange monster. But it's upstairs and I'm down and so I got this cute little nifty sharpener that works great for a little sharpening now and then. At my new job I noticed they have a horrid little specimen of a sharpener. One of those truly for home use being asked to do a commercial load. Foolish - dull points, rattling on toward a slow and sorry death. My second #02695 arrived and now I have another little Bostitch all my own in my office just for my now and then. Love it!!!! And the packing is sturdy, too. (Aren't you tired of flimsy cardboard?!!)

If you want something for a classroom NOTHING will ever beat the handcranked stainless model with the movable pencil size ring in front that was screwed down - the only way to go. Remember? Back with those Dick and Sally primers? THAT was a pencil sharpener, that and our orange monster. - Electric Sharpener - Home Office - Pencil Sharpner - Pencil Sharpener'

Bluetooth - motorola, bluetooth

Wow, my first bad review. The U-shaped piece that fits around the neck of the Hx1 stretches out so that if you remove it, it cannot be tightened. I tried to gently push the U tighter and it snapped immediately. I guess no sense returning it since the postage and inconvenience is equal to the price paid but definitely stay away from the product--it's defective. Replacement Ear Loop/hook for Motorola Hx1

I'm very disappointed in the quality of this product. It is clearly not OEM from Motorola, as the original lasted for a year for me. By contrast, this replacement didn't even make it a week before breaking on both sides of the loop that connects to the HX1.

I cant believe I didnt read the reviews. I purchased 4 and just like everyone else, they broke in the exact same place. All 4 broke within the same week I received them. Clearly, this product is defective. I'll try going directly to Motorola...

I bought to replace the original that broke in my purse. Original thought it was my negligence but after receiving the new hook and it braking the same day I'm wishing I'd read the reviews first. Major waste on money - disappointed.

these fit perfect and are very strong. I got two since I was unsure of the strenghth since my original was not good quality. these are really nice and stay on your ear without a problem as well as being comfortable.

Yeah, the other reviewers have experienced the same problem: this ear piece breaks in the same place every time. The replacement part lasted me about the same length of time as the original part, then broke in the same location even though I knew it was delicate and handled it with care. You may as well buy a pack of 12, one for each month of the year...you'll need 'em! - Bluetooth - Motorola'

Nutritional Scale - weighing scale, diet scale

I would prefer to write this review after some time has passed, but I want to make sure I get my thoughts out here early on.

This is my third kitchen scale. I bake all my own bread at home and good baking requires weighing the ingredients rather than volume measuring.

This scale feels very light which made me nervous at first, but I've used it for three weeks now, through a lot of baking over the holidays, and my concerns seem out of line.

This scale fits all my needs. Here is what I look for:

1. CAPACITY - AT LEAST 10 LB (this has 11 lb, or 5 kg). This is required to be able to tare out a glass bowl which can weigh near 5 lbs empty. 11 lb is still borderline when I'm making bread in a 6 qt kitchenaid bowl, but I just weigh ingredients separately in another bowl if it becomes a problem.

2. PRECISION - DOWN TO 1 GRAM - Another scale I have was only good to 5 grams and, although this was probably good enough, it drove me nuts not to be able to go down to 1 gram

3. STABLE PLATFORM FOR VESSELS -- My previous scale had a platform that sat on top of a pillar and eventually came detached. After that it was a balancing act to weight anything

4. ORDINARY BATTERIES -- I liked my old scales fine, but it drove me crazy that I had to keep buying overpriced CR2032 batteries for the things. These batteries don't last long and cost too much to replace. I can't figure out why they use these "button batteries" rather than the more common higher capacity AAA, AA, C, D, etc cells. It's not like these scales are micro-sized. In any event A BIG BIG PLUS for this scale is that it uses standard batteries! Don't sell this point short.

5. PRICE -- $50, $30, $70 for a scale to do this is crazy. the circuitry in these things is cheap. It's not rocket science. All these scales that have "features" are a waste of money. This scale does what needs to be done for $20.

6. FEATURES -- Zero the scale, read negative numbers, switch between metric and English weights, tare a bowl....that's it...that's all you need. All the rest of it is a waste of money and a further chance for failure. this does what is needed and no more.

7. EASY TO READ -- big numbers. this scale is good....Not so good about this scale (and the ONLY problem I have so far) is that big bowls tend to cover the read out a little and make it hard to pick up the weight. So far it hasn't been a big deal, but it can be a slight annoyance.

BOTTOM LINE:

This scale gets 100% on items 1-6 and about 50% on item 7 for a 93% grade overall...enough for me to give it 5 out of 5 stars.

The only remaining unrated item is DURABILITY....I'll report back in a year. My old, $50 scale only lasted 3.5 years. I'm betting this one goes at least that long...plus I won't be forking over for new button batteries every month and a half. EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver

** This review has been edited ** I now give the product 5 stars (stupidly, Amazon doesn't allow changing the rating when editing).

Originally I wrote a bad review indicating the unit eats batteries. We didn't use it frequently and every time we did, the batteries were dead.

About a day after I submitted the review, Bill from EatSmart Products emailed me indicating he had seen the review and short battery life is not typical of the product (he stated they should last ~1 year). With no prompting from me, he sent out a new scale along with some batteries to replace the ones the original scale consumed. Although it hasn't been very long, so far the batteries in the new unit are holding up well.

So as I stated above, I now give this scale a 5-star rating due not only to its good performance, but the great customer service from the manufacturer!

EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, White

I am no scale expert, but EatSmart has offered me a free book if I write a review of their scale, and this has prompted my review. I have only been using the scale for two weeks, but I haven't had any problems with it so far. My only nitpicks at this point are that the "white" color has a pinkish tone and that the buttons aren't perfectly even. Aside from these minor cosmetic issues, the scale is exactly what I expected: a functional, easy-to-use, accurate, inexpensive ($25), small, lightweight, plastic scale.

When making my scale purchase, I also considered buying the Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale, Chrome. The only advantage that the Escali Scale has over the EatSmart Precision Pro Scale is that the Escali Scale has buttons that prevent food from getting into the cracks. In contrast, when using the EatSmart Scale, you have to be careful not to drop food in between the two buttons. For this reason, I put my scale in a plastic Ziploc bag (gallon size) to protect it from drippings and droppings - this keeps it clean, and it still works great! In all other respects (except for the few noted below), the two scales seem to be very similar according to the product descriptions.

In the end I decided to purchase the EatSmart Scale over the Escali Scale because I preferred the EatSmart unit options. The EatSmart Scale allows you to switch back and fourth between four different unit modes: 0000 grams, 000.00 ounces, 00.000 pounds, and 00.000 kilograms (resolution: .05 ounces/1 gram). This requires pushing the right button once for each mode (for example, start on grams, then push once to get to ounces, then again to get to pounds, then a third time for kilograms). The EatSmart scale will remember the last unit-mode you chose, so you don't have to readjust every time. If you always use pounds, just leave it on pounds. When you return the next day and turn on your scale, it will still be on pounds.

In contrast, The Escali Scale only offers three unit options: 0000 grams, 000.00 ounces, and [00 lbs + 00.0 ounces]. I prefer the EatSmart Scale because it provides pounds with decimals (00.000 lbs) - for me this is easier to deal with than [00 lbs + 00.0 ounces]. I frequently measure out meats, which are labeled in pounds with decimals (00.000 lbs) at most grocery stores. If I buy a pound of hamburger and want to divide it into three 1/3-pound portions (0.33 lbs), the EatSmart Scale makes it easy. I just measure out the 0.33 lb portions right there on the scale. With the Escali Scale, I would have to do some conversions to measure out my portions, because the Escali Scale will not measure out pounds in decimals. In some cases these conversions can be difficult without a calculator. The conversion required in this example would be:

(0.33 lbs/portion) * (16 ounces/lb) = 5.333 ounces/portion ---> Possible to do without a calculator, but not ideal.

Another EatSmart feature that I have found convenient is that you do not have to use the tare button. Simply place your empty bowl or plate on the scale BEFORE turning it on, then push the left button once to turn it on. It turns on very quickly and is zeroed-out upon starting up. Then you can add your ingredients to the plate without having to wait for the scale to tare! If you would rather use the tare button, that is easy as well. Simply push the left button to turn on the scale, then place your empty plate on the scale, push the left button a second time to "tare" the scale, wait for the scale to zero out, and then add your food items that you want to measure.

With its three-minute automatic shut-off feature, the scale gives you plenty of time to make your measurement before turning off. I haven't had it shut off on me yet in the middle of a measurement. It also allows you to shut it off manually by pushing the button on the left twice (you have to wait for it to zero out to 00.000 before pushing it the second time - if it is at 00.003 when you go to push it the second time, it will just tare again to 00.000). The scale also seems to give its readings rather quickly - so no problems there.

IN SUMMARY: The EatSmart Scale has three battery-conscious features: generous three-minute automatic shut-off, option to turn off manually, and ability to tare without actually spending time taring! It also uses standard AAA batteries which are easily replaceable. It offers four convenient unit modes: 0000 grams, 000.00 ounces, 00.000 pounds, and 00.000 kilograms. Overall a simple and functional scale without any bugs. I'm completely satisfied with my purchase - I would buy it again! - Kitchen Gadgets - Weighing Scale - Diet Scale - Compact'
