Art Alternatives - art supplies, acrylic paints

I picked these brushes up from Michael's for $4.99 - a great price for all the brushes. I highly recommend being very extra thorough in cleaning the brushes prior to first use as after a casual cleaning to get the starching agent out, the brushes lost quite a few hairs on the first use. This problem has since resolved itself and while they're not my favourite brushes by any means, they are decent. Great for a beginner or someone who just wants to play around. :) Brush Bundle of 18 Hog Brushes in a Canvas Brush Holder

I recently tested these brushes by doing two projects. One was an acrylic painting on canvas, and the other was doing acrylic dry brushing technique on hand carved wood. These brushes were perfect! No bristle loss while painting on canvas. They held their shapes very well. They "loaded" paint wonderfully. During the dry brushing technique on wood again they performed beautifully. On one of the pieces of wood I needed to scrub a little harder than usual to get into some deeply carved detail and the bristles held! No bristle loss and while they tended to flair a little bit during the process they regained their shape when cleaned, formed and allowed to dry. I highly recomend this set. Don't let the low price fool you, they are quality!

Found this set in a craft store for a bit cheaper, in addition to the fact that I've used them twice and they're already falling apart. Acrylics are hard on brushes but this is ridiculous. Also, brushes shed quite a bit while painting.

They work, however started losing hairs pretty soon, and one of the brushes got blue paint up near the join to the handle, and I can't get it out.

For the price its not too bad, I might use the canvas bag for my knitting needles!

I don't want to keep the brushes in it as the hairs get all bent out of shape.

I decided to get back into acrylic painting after 110 years (did it when I was in college) and I needed some cheap brushes. I got these and they are way beyond my expectations. I've used them for acrylic and for blending watercolor pencil and they do a great job. It's well worth the money and I highly recommend these if you are looking for a lot of brushes at a very reasonable price. I plan to get another set just to have in case I need more! Oh and the canvas case and tall canister are very useful too! - Paint Brush - Art Alternatives - Art Supplies - Acrylic Paints'

Swingline 3-hole-punch

Can't beat it for the price. Nice, simple, and does what it's suppose to do. It's actually even smaller than my other three hole puncher that I purchased from staples, in which I returned when I received this one. Not only is it smaller, but it's also half the price. I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and so far im very happy with it. Highly recommended!! X-ACTO Economy Three hole punch with comfort grip - clamshell, Assorted Colors (1549)

It's one of the cheaper hole punches but is really good. It's supposed to have an 8-page capacity, but I can get away with more each time. It was delivered with no shipping fee when I bought it, so that was awesome.

Nothing special about this hole-punch. It works just like it should and does exactly what I need it to do. Only thing I don't like is the bottom cover tends to come off a bit easily, not a big deal though.

I really don't like to give bad reviews. But darn it, I'm really unhappy with this product. It worked for about a hundred or so sheets before one of the punches failed to go down all the way. That means the third hole only gets punched maybe 85% of the way. I wish this were a gem that did the job for a great price (it's really cheap). But alas, this is another case of "You get what you pay for".

This three hole punch, does the job it's designed for, but the only flaw is that it doesn't allow you to align the paper all the same. For example you can three hole punch it high on one set of papers, but then next batch of papers you might three hole punch it low. So when you put the papers into the binder, it doesn't align properly.

Though it was light weight and compatible, I wasn't pleased with the product.

As another reviewer said... They had issues where after about 100 sheets one of the punches didn't cut all the way through the paper. Well with mine it happened after about 20 sheets. I know this is super budget but still. It should last a little while longer ;)

Also - it doesn't have a page guide / stopper. This seems like a given. I want to punch in the same spot every time. In it's defense if you line it up with the base you can get pretty even punches. But I prefer a guide.

Try something else.

This X-ACTO hole punch is surprisingly well constructed given the price, and has performed with no problems at all. Although it's designed for 8 pages, I've managed to punch batches of 10 pages without any problems. The hole collector is easy to remove and empty, and it's quick to line up the paper before punching. It's much smaller than the previous 3-hole puncher I used, which is perfect for hiding it in the stationary draw when not in use.

I just received this product today and it absolutely doesn't work. It will only hole-punch the bottom hole, the top one doesn't even puncture the paper at all. I have never been so frustrated and annoyed with such a simple tool. I am usually very impressed with most of my Amazon purchases (even the cheaper items), but I will definitely be buying a different one.'

Ipod Screen Protector - ipod accessories, screen protector

There's not much to say about this... It's a thin, plastic screen protector. Once you put it on, the only time you'll notice it is looking at the Home button on the bottom, because there's a notch there for it.

Important things to remember:

1. CLEAN THE SCREEN - Wipe down the screen with the included cloth, and make 100% certain that there are NO dust particles on it before you begin applying the protector. Dust particles will create annoying air bubbles, and trying to remove them from the adhesive side of the protector basically ruins it. Make sure your general area is also free of dust before you remove the plastic from the adhesive side of the protector.

2. SAVE THE CARD - There's a small cardboard card in the box. This is meant to help even out and smooth out the protector once it's on the device. Don't throw it out - save it! If you do mistakenly throw it away, though, you could probably safely use something like a credit card.

3. DON'T REMOVE THE PLASTIC FILM ON THE FRONT UNTIL YOU'RE DONE SMOOTHING IT - There's a plastic film on the front of the screen protector, and it's there for a reason. Once you have used the card to eliminate non-dust-related air bubbles, you'll see why. The plastic film is usually pretty well scratched. Better the film than your new screen protector.

That's all there is to it - Follow the instructions and keep the above things in mind, and you've got a protected screen. Belkin Screen Overlay 3-Pack for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Clear)

This is a screen protector which sticks directly onto the front of the iPod Touch, with a small gap at the bottom so as to not cover the button located there. It's easy to apply, but make sure you carefully remove all dust particles from the screen before attaching the protector since those particles can cause air bubbles to form. There is an included cloth for cleaning the screen.

The only reason for giving this product four instead of five stars is the price. It is a bit pricey, but if you feel that you want to protect your screen from scratches and oily fingerprints, then you'll need to get a protector like this.

It's a little tricky at first to get the screen protector smoothly on the iPod, but once you get it on you can hardly notice it there. It's also easy to clean as well to get all of those annoying fingerprints and dust particles off the screen with a damp cloth.

This is a great screen protector that uses no glue to attach to the iPod Touch. The overly is a vinyl cling type of material. As long as you give yourself a little time and follow the directions, you should end up with great results. (Lock yourself in the bathroom away from pets and kids.)

The clear plastic comes with a piece of clear film on both sides. Each side has a little piece of tape to make it easier to remove the film. Basically wipe off the Touch screen with the included cloth. Pull the film away from the edge of the bottom side of the overly and line this up on the Touch's screen. Slowly pull the film off as you are applying the overly to the screen. Once the overly is on the screen, you simply pull the film off the top of the overly and you are done!

I had my overlay installed in less than 5 minutes with beautiful results. I will definitely be purchasing these again should we need them. As a diehard Palm PDA user (as was my husband), this screen overlay was by far the easiest I've ever had to put on.

I got this item for a friend of mine, who happens to have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.

Although the package states "For 2G", it obviously works for 3G (since they share the same physical dimensions).

Overall, the screen protector is great, as it fits perfectly and is very easy to install with the very well known double peel method (first apply sticker, second remove bubbles, third remove the last layer).

His older screen protector was of terrible quality, hence he had a lot of bubbles on the screen. This one, seems like it's gonna last for a while (but he has 2 spares just in case!) and doesn't interrupt at all the hand contact (you know, being a capacitive screen).

Many reviewers say they have a lot of difficulty applying the overlays and/or getting them to look good without having air bubbles. Because of the reviews, I was careful to clean the iPod Touch 3G screen and to position the overlay according to directions. It went on easily and perfectly the first time. No bubbles and a good fit. The only way you would know the screen has an overlay is the small cutout for the button on the front of the iPod. After using the overlay for about two weeks, I can recommend it without reservation.

This is the only screen protector I've ever used, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it seems to do the job. Don't know if you really NEED it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The only thing is that I had trouble applying it with no bubbles, but even with a few small bubbles it works fine.

Although applying the screen protectors takes patience and a pristine screen free of dust and grime, once it is on, you can't even notice its there. It seems thick enough to protect the screen from everyday scratches and perhaps even some larger scratches that would normally mar the screen.

A little tip: To protect the chrome back of the iPod, I cut a piece of that self-stick laminating sheet you can get at an office supply store and slapped it on the back of the player. This protects the back from everyday scratches while still allowing the sleek chrome back to show.

I'm satisfied with the results of the Belkin Screen Overlay. It was very easy to apply. Under certain lighting conditions the overlay has a rainbow effect which I found mildly distracting. I haven't tried other screen overlays, but I think that overall this is a good buy (3-Pack) and it does a good job at protecting the screen on my iPod Touch. - Screen Protector - Ipod Touch - Ipod Accessories - Itouch Accessories'

Foot Pain - foot pain

Tho I'm a woman, I got the man's size as so many women's inserts are just too marrow. The relief from burning pain was almost immediate. I had avoided walking which I love because of the such discomfort. These inserts seem to be just soft, until after a while they really adapt to the shape of your foot. I immediately ordered 4 more pair. I have tried many arch supports over 20 years and these are by far the best for me. I only wish they would make an entire shoe out of this stuff. ProFoot Smart Arch Arch Support, Men's Fits All , 1 pair (Pack of 2)

I work out pretty regularly but suffer from periodic arch pain. Shoe inserts with arch support have been a boon. Took a flyer and ordered these because they were advertised to work for people with flat feet as well, which is my problem. The relief was almost immediate. Worked out for about an hour on a treadmill and elliptical with these and not a bit of pain. Am ordering some more immediately. Terrific product.

These are supposed to be *arch* supports, yet the cushioning on them is so thick (1/8"+ under the sole, 3/8" under the heel!) I can't get my dress shoes back on my feet with the supports inserted. I've bought name brand cushioning inserts that were thinner. Don't waste your money on these, unless your shoes were way too big to start with.

These arch supports were good at two things: quality arch support and being cheap. I like that I can switch them between different pairs of shoes quickly and easily.

The only complaint I have with these is that they didn't work well for me in gym shoes. Gym shoes that are meant to be snug already (cross trainers, running shoes, etc) make it difficult to get your foot into the shoe without causing the arch support to wrinkle, which is very annoying. If you want to use arch supports in gym shoes, I would suggest arch supports that span the entire shoe, not just the back half as these do. These were more suited to dress shoes and other items that are naturally looser, allowing you to slip your foot in without causing the arch support to move around underfoot.

I am very happy with the one piece smart arches that were sent to me however, only two of the package of four were one piece and the other two packages were two piece with a seam and that seam can be felt within the shoe. I highly recommend the one piece smart arches. They help with my arch issues and conform to the shape of my foot. - Foot Pain'

Laptop Battery Chargers - laptop power adapters, power cord

Before receipt of this replacement adapter for my Aspire One D250, I was expecting something a little lighter and less durable. Although the adapter is small compared to the original, it performs just as well and weighs enough to not be a burden or to be able to call it a cheap paperweight. Overall, I am impressed with the product. The inclusion of a green LED on the adapter is nice. It makes finding an active power outlet on campus faster than digging out my netbook and plugging it in, only to find that the available outlets are dead, and then having to pack up again. It is a little bit shorter overall cable-length wise, but I only purchased this to have an adapter to carry with me and leave the original at home.

I highly recommend it for the price and quality. Laptop AC Adapter for Acer Aspire One A110, A150, AOA110, AOA150, ZG5 Series

I went to Acer and ordered this item on the 10th with expedited shipping because it was a repair part. On the 15th I called to find out that it had been placed on backorder and I "should" get it in a few days. I canceled the order and placed with Brilliant store on the 15th and got it on the 16th at nearly half price.

My reccomendation is to not go to the PC mfg for parts you can replace yourself.

I also want to thank Brilliant Store for their great service, the part was here before the Amazon shipping e-mail.

This works great with my Aspire One. It is smaller and the wires are shorter than OEM, but the overall construction is still good. Given that Aspire wanted $60 for a factory original replacement, I consider this to be a bargain and am glad that I bought it.

I read several good reviews and several bad reviews for this product. I took the good with the bad and made an intelligent decision and bought the product. I had enough knowledge to know what I was replacing and what exactly I needed to purchase for the replacement. The plug on this unit feels much sturdier as well as the wire.

The original unit had a broken wire between the ferrite bead and the right angle plug going to the laptop. I had removed the bead and plug on the original unit and replace the plug to remove the bad section of wire. It worked for some time but then broke on the end of the wire connected to the power brick.

The new unit wire seems much much more resistant to breakage, and twisting than the original adapter. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to replace a power pack for their mini netbook / laptop. It works well, doesn't get overly warm, and has an led to let you know it is working.

I will note that due to the nature of the electronics inside this device; heat can play a major factor in its lifespan. Heat kills electronics, that is why fans are in computers. If you keep this plugged in and have it inside a laptop bag, or on the floor under clothes, you run the risk of killing it. Even if used correctly, and as directed, electronics exposed to heat wear out. It is just how things are. So make your purchases and further reviews with these ideas in mind. If you hear sizzling / arcing and a flickering LED, the unit is done. You killed it. The products inside are not replaceable, and at this price, it is almost always safer and more cost effective to get a new unit. Also, it is possible that any manufacturing process can have errors. Keep that in mind if you possibly get a defective unit. Nothing is perfect, and those things that are close to perfect tend to get very expensive. Just keep that in mind.

I ordered this on Feb. 4th and it arrived Feb. 8th and there was a weekend in between. And that's with regular standard shipping (mail). It works just as well as the original and is very light and portable. I'm very happy to have found this bargain. My netbook (a new Acer Aspire One 532h) recharges in the same amount of time (when turned off) as with the original charger. I saved about $50 by not buying one of these from Acer. Fantastic! This price on this item seems to go up and down a lot. I got it for $7 plus $4.99 shipping. Having an extra charger really puts my mind at ease -- if one charger dies, no problem, I've got a backup.

Just ordered my netbook charger a couple of nights ago and it is already here! Exactly as described on the seller's page and for a fraction of the price I would have paid at one of the big electronics store chains. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

This adapter overheats so badly that the plastic case on the adapter started to melt!

Also, the ac cable is very loose, if you move the cable it comes out of the adapter.

It's too small and doesn't have the power required for this laptop, its only 30W.

We got this product and it seemed great. But then I realized it will not charge the battery. When the original cord was broken (cat chewed the wire) the battery worked fine. Still had about an hour of battery life after a charge. It sat for about two weeks when I purchased this adapter. Now the battery will not charge at all. It just stays on empty while its plugged in. Even with the computer turned off.

I don't see how this could be a faulty battery as I said it worked fine just a couple weeks ago. Still I guess for the price at least my wife can use it at her desk. I need to go find a real acer adapter I guess.

So I've had this item now for about two months give or take a few days, and i must say that i'm happy to have purchased it. I don't know if my battery is bad, or whether the cable does not charge the pack, but my unit can only be used when plugged into the wall. I'm betting that i have a bad battery, but am not worried about it because this unit mainly is used in the home. Overal good cord will recommend as a replacement. - Acer Aspire - Laptop Power Adapters - Laptop Battery Chargers - Power Cord'

Message Pads - self-stick notes, sticky notes

Post it notes.

Let's see here....

You write on them.

You stick them somewhere so you don't forget what you were writing in the first place.

Eventually they fall down and slide under the fridge and are forgotten or the task that was written down is fulfilled and the post it gets tossed.

One of life's little necessities.

And they come in pretty colors too, and that's always a good thing.

Colorful.

Useful.

Recommended. Post-it Notes, Original Pad, 2- 7/8 Inches x 2- 7/8 Inches, Assorted Neon, 50 Sheets per Pad, Three Pads per Pack (6301)

I don't know why, but these post-its are not as sticky as regular post-its, or even knock off brands. I'm not sure if it has to do with the paper or what, but they are good for one or two stickings, then they won't stick again. And they have a hard time sticking at all to a refrigerator with a textured surface. I get these when I need a "filler item" to get to $25 free shipping, but I may have to find something else...they are not that good.

I like the assorted colors, I like the lines that help me write on the lines, and the size is great for books, computers, and refrigerators. I don't like how when I stick it to my computer like my other sticky notes it doesn't stick.

I have some yellow ones made from another manufacturer and they don't just slip off. These do. It's due either to a poor quality of sticky glue or that the strip of sticky glue is too thin.

I wouldn't recommend this product unless improvements are made, but I won't be the one to find out if they have been made. - Self-stick Notes - Office Supplies - Sticky Notes - Message Pads'

I bought many Ryobi flashlight and drill kits at Home Depot only to find out the first time I dropped the flashlight that they don't carry the bulbs! Wow, I was flustered! Photography - leica, photography

I had the same guide for the D-Lux 4 and decided to get this one when I got my D-Lux 5 after looking at the content preview. It really is a different book, addressing a different camera. I love the author's simple way to describing everything. Simple in the way he explains, but don't get me wrong, he doesn't leave out anything here. Wonderful book. Recommend for everyone except advanced photographers. Photographer's Guide to the Leica D-Lux 5: Getting the Most from Leica's Compact Digital Camera

I agree with P. Li's review. This is an excellent book that gives very useful information about the D-Lux 5. But I think the book is useful even to advanced photographers who may not know all the features of the D-Lux 5. I am a professional photographer and normally use Leica Ms. But I do not want to travel with them. Without this book, I would not learned about all the features of the camera that aren't covered in the manual. I highly recommend this.

The first, really only important question to answer is "why spend the bucks to buy this book?"

The Leica D-Lux5 comes boxed with a nicely designed, easy to understand, clearly written instructional manual. A CD inside the box contains a more comprehensive guide to your new top-of-the-line point-and-shoot. So why throw around $25 when you already have more than you probably want to read about your camera and how to use it?

The answer is because chances are you're an amateur photographer and you want to take the best pictures you can and feel comfortable that you're getting the most out of your Leica - and believe me there are a lot of gizmos and gadgets, features and functions, tightly packed in that sleek black metal case to get to know about and get used to.

The first time I picked up my new camera and checked it out, I saw an awful lot that meant little to me. The switch on the top is simple and anyone can figure out that it turns the camera on and then off. But the top of the camera also has the lever that controls the optical zoom. The back of the camera has nine buttons and a wheel, all controlling at least one but usually more functions. A door on the bottom opens into the heart of the camera and has slots for memory and battery.

Four little pinholes on the bottom let sound in. The side of the camera has a portal for the cables and cords that connect the camera to the outside world, your computer and television. All of that is on the outside where you can see it. It's the thought of all that's crammed inside that causes all the angst, at least for this Leica noob (me).

Alexander White's guidebook has the answer to what all these dials, levers, settings and switches do and how do they interplay to take really great snapshots. Guiding you through the various functions and settings in a comprehensive way is what the book is really good at.

There are nine chapters, one for each menu and mode. The book starts simply with basic information about the camera setup and basic operations such as focus, exposure, flash and viewing pictures. Things then get a little more complex. There are sections on settings for portraiture, scenery, night portraiture, picturing food and even a section on photographing parties and taking shots by candlelight. And all those mini-tutorials are in the first three chapters.

You can stay to the basics or you can dig deep and learn about the camera's O.I.S. (optical stabilization system) mode using an in-camera demo. It's more than I want to know but maybe you're into that type of thing.

The section most useful to me personally, gave me instructions on macro shooting, capturing images in extreme closeup where the subject is shown actual size, in a 1:1 ratio, flowers, bugs and other things minature.

The camera it seems can do almost anything to do with image and light and it's my guess there's a section of the book dealing with your particular topic and with many of the topics you've never thought about or imagined.

If you want to feel confident that you're taking advantage of all the technology packed into your sleek, classy black camera with the classic red dot, my advice is buy the book. You'll get a return on your $25 investment in just a couple better-informed clicks of the shutter. That electronic manual that comes with the camera, go ahead and delete it. With your copy of the "Photographer's Guide to the Leica D-Lux 5," you've got things covered and in focus.

I bought this book as the Kindle download for my iPad. I read it in a couple of nights. The author does a great job of explaining the various functions and features of the LX5. However, I wish that he had delved more into HIS settings, and WHY he chose those particular ones.

Overall, compared to the manual that comes with the camera, this is an excellent value. I find myself referring back to it over and over again to find certain features and functions. His clear, concise explanations make it easy to follow along whenever you wish to make a change, or modify your settings.

I do recommend this book if you are serious about learning about all the features of your little gem of a camera. - Photography - Leica - Lx5 - Lumix'

Tire Pressure Gauges - tire inflator, tire pressure gauges

I had one of these for 16 years and it always worked great. I only bought a new one because when I moved I sold my air compressor and the Milton went with it. I got a new air compressor and wanted another Milton Tire Inflator with gauge. There is no better tire inflator/gauge on the market. Milton Dual Chuck Tire Inflator With Gauge

I remember this air chuck from when I was a kid filling up my bike tires & parents car.

It was so easy & quick to fill & check air presser with this gage

You don't see many used any more because people steal them!!

So gas stations get tired of replacing them...

I bought a small air compressor for my garage last year and use it for filling my auto & bike tires

So when I was filling with the air chuck, then checking with the presser gage I though I must see how much one of those cool air chuck / presser gages I used to use at the local gas station cost.

If you have a small air compressor for your garage and use it for your auto, bike

I think it is well worth the money.

The unit is very well built out of solid aluminum and gives a accurate reading too.

ECK

This is by far the best tire inflator you can purchase. First off, it is well built, soild body and it looks good. Next, the dial gauge is on point every use. If it ever jumps off into left field, that lets me know theres something wrong with the valve core. I give this product 5stars anyday.

I'm an old dude. I remember when I was a kid and most gas stations had free air. The better places had these great tire inflators. I always figured they went the way of many great American products. I recently purchased a new air compressor for home and stumbled upon this product on Amazon. I can't say enough good things about it. It is a great American made tool! If you have a compressor and fill your cars, truck, or cycle's tires you need one of these great inflator/gauges.

The best air chuck you can buy. Bought this based on research i did in truck forums (guys who know trucks, are mechanical, etc, like me). Ultra high-quality. US made, same air chuck used by military. I checked accuracy vs a known accurate gauge i have and it was dead on. The length of the final, metal end pieces vs the length of the rubber hose is perfect for hard to reach duallys of which i have 5. They obviously did hands on user research when they made it - it works. On my other air chuck, the entire end was rubber which is useless -- if it's all rubber at the end to a small air valve then you can't lean into it and get it to bite onto a 100+ PSI dually air chucks that are hard to reach.

When trying to find a high quality pressure gauge and air chuck I came across this item. Trusting that it was worth the higher cost I purchased it. When it arrived I knew that I had made the right choice. It really is well made and reminds me of items from another era, well made with quality.

I use this to check the air in my motor home. Since air pressure is critical to the safety of the tires on the heavy motor homes I now know that each day when I start out that I'm at the right pressure. If adjustments are needed the Milton makes it easy.

There is an old saying "you get what you pay for"......quality has a price and this time I'm happy that I spent the few extra dollars and purchased a real quality item.

I use this to pump up my tires on my RV. Before it was a pain, but now it's a breeze. Hit the button your pumping, let the button go you get the pressure reading.

This handles high pressures without any trouble at all (110 psi). I bought a second one for the garage I liked it so much.

I order this product when my old tire pressure gauge stoped working. I liked the fact that this gauge was made in America. It arrived as promised and works like a charm. The day it arrived I checked mine and my wifes tires. The gauge is nice and seems to be very accurate. - Tire Pressure Gauges - Tire Gauges - Tire Gauge - Tire Inflator'

Gloves

I use these for racquetball and they do the job. I ordered a small after reading the other reviews. My hands are maybe small-ish, but I normally would have thought medium would have been fine. However, the smalls fit well, so if you are wondering what size to order, you might go for the smaller of the two you are deciding between.

These absorb sweat and make it easier for me to grip the racquet. They're pretty easy to put on. The price is good and they look good. Solid construction. Savasa for Women Fitness Gloves (Medium)

I really enjoy my womens fitness gloves they are very helpful when using my wheelchair. There is only 1 thing I wish with this product. That wish being that all three colors were available in all sizes. This way you can choose what color you like in the size that works for you.

Looked fore something a little more "girlie" to use with my manual wheelchair. These are a large in a light purple. Easy on and off, wash well and I have extra. Holds up to stopping friction burns on a hill. I bought four pair total, for my active lifestyle and they help turn my wheelchair into a fashion statement.

Nice gloves. Very Sturdy. The only problem is that I bought them to use with my wheelchair and the finger portion is just 1/2 an inch too short to cover the area on my fingers where I have wheelchair callouses. I'm sure they are great athletic gloves though.'
