Do It Yourself - do it yourself, decorating

This is a timely design book which is the one of the first of its kind to feature and unite three major trends impacting interior design today. These trends are: 1) intelligent use of financial resources in decorating-- maximizing your design dollars 2) using green design principles and products in your decor plan and 3) cherishing past styles and design elements and reusing them in authentic, personal and eclectic interiors.

The author is passionate and knowledgeable about these and shows you how to restore, recycle and reuse items to create attractive rooms from living rooms and kitchens to bedrooms, baths and the outdoors. It's full of how-to tips--including his grandmother's tips--on how to accomplish this. And you get to see how these look in charming rooms that you'd like to live in. The rooms featured tend to be cottage and country (the author is a contributing editor to Country Living magazine), but the same tips and items could work in modern and retro interiors or an eclectic combination of these. If you like books on vintage decorating, flea market decor, eclectic interiors, apartment therapy interiors, DIY design, makeover rooms, decorating for less, you should enjoy this book.

It should spark your own ideas on how to incorporate something you love innovatively into a room. If you want a home you love, you need to have what you love in the home and this book shows you how to do it originally, economically and with healthy materials and green principles. It's perfect for the first-time decorator, someone moving into a new home or apartment, or if you're wanting to update, renovate and accessorize your home distinctively and like looking for unique and original pieces and combining them in fresh ways. For so long if something was old in a home, we threw it out and started over. Now we're seeing the value of cherishing the past and incorporating it in fresh ways in our contemporary interiors. I think this book is going to be a best-seller as it teaches about the design trends which are becoming increasingly important today which will only accelerate in value to us as designers and curators of our own homes in the future. Restore. Recycle. Repurpose.: Create a Beautiful Home (A Country Living Book)

I was really impressed with the book and the references to buying items from locations closer to home to eliminate transportation waste and then I saw on the brown strip around the book that it was printed in CHINA. Shame on the author and publisher for allowing this to happen. Kind of voids all the phrases in the book that say ".....buy locally and avoid things being shipped in from China or Mexico." There have got to be lots of printers in the USA who would have loved your business and done an excellent job.

Very rarely am I disappointed by a "Country Living" book - and this was no exception! Randy Florke has a great eye for "recycled treasure," he can put it together in a clean, unfussy yet beautiful arrangement! The pictures in this book are exquisite and thought provoking at the same time. Who would have thought a kitchen with a pink stove and double oven arrangement could look so yummy and functional at the same time. It's not dated yet not timeless either, provoking nostalgia for a simpler time, (pg 51). Thanks for such a fantastic book - Randy proves that country doesn't have to look old or cluttered - what a bit of fun!!!

I absolutely love this book. I was not sure how to name or describe the style of home decor that I love and want to create in my house, and then I found this book and ah ha! This is it. The perfect guide. The rooms are so much more interesting since things are a mix of "vintage" finds--none of that match-y mathch-y look that looks so boring and cookie cutter. The look is down to earth yet tasteful and impressive. I just love looking at all the pictures and he gives plenty of advice for shopping. Full of great ideas, even for little details. (I am using an antique iron as a doorstop but I see he has one propped up for a book end--hmm).

What a wonderful book this is! The concept of preserving our environment and decorating with what is already around makes a beautiful home. I love the thoughts Randy shares about his grandmother. His philosophy is so needed in our world today. Highly recommended.

Although some of the ideas were not new, I liked the approach this author took of offering different level of "greenness". It was also interesting that each chapter focused on what projects in the room covered by that chapter would give you the most "green" bang for your buck.

This book was a complete waste of money. I do not agree with the video review stating that this book provides inovative ideas for "repurposing" and "recycling" your own stuff. The only advice the author of this book give towards "repurposing" is to BUY VINTAGE! Purchasing someone else's vitange items does not help me repurpose my own things. The author even states MANY TIMES that buying vintage is expensive, but you are "repurposing" those items.

Hd Camcorder - everio, hd camcorder

bought this camera for the "time lapse" option... wanted to get on-line but wanted it now/so I paid twenty two buck more plus tax at a best store. the camera performs wonderful! there are no "laser" buttons/everything works from the zoom and menu button-very easy to use and understand. the night capibilities are great. filmed my dog across the yard at 11:30pm with only the neighbors porch light on and no street lights. the video came out perfect! I was amazed!I have a 2 year old JVC w/30g memory..this gz-ms110 is 1/3 the size and weighs ounce's!the zoom is awesome. I was able to zoom the moon and see craters/but a tripod would have made a better video for steady-ness....I would have given this 5 stars/but the thing that stopped that was...due to it being so small/which I love/but due to the size and my large hands it is slightly difficult to press the record button when the camera is in my hand with the strap on my hand comfortably, the strap could be larger and perhaps this would make it more comfortable/but the price, the quality, the options, the zoom, the smallness, and the years of experiance jvc has, this is a great camera! I like it better than my new samsung smx-f40 I accendently bought and will now be a gift..... JVC GZ-MS110B Camcorder

I've just received my JVC MS110. I was looking at the MS120 about 6 weeks ago, but saw this newer version was coming out, so I pre-ordered it for $229. At the time the MS120 was selling on Amazon for $209. Before I received the MS110 (but after it shipped) Amazon was selling the MS110 for $207, and the MS120 for $260!

I did some research on them before I bought, but unfortunately missed the following differences:

1. The MS110 doesn't take still pictures.

2. It doesn't have the MS120's filter threads, needed to add a wide-angle lens.

3. Unlike the MS120, it doesn't close the lens protector when you close the LCD to shut off the camera. You have to locate and move a lever on the side. A small point, yes, but its seems like they had to go out the their way to remove this feature.

Pros

-It has a great 45x(or more)zoom lens.

-It comes with time-lapse recording and a motion detection-record feature.

-Low-light capability is good. Whatever you can see in dim light it can record.

-Using an SD card, it has a rapid start-up to catch those sudden photo opportunities.

-Lightweight at 7.6oz, including battery (weighed on my postal scale).

Cons

-The previously mentioned "missing" features.

-The slowest time lapse setting is still pretty fast, with each minute zipping by in 2 seconds.

-It is too small for its side-strap configuration. This makes it difficult to hold easily, my hand is in awkward positions and cramps-up trying to curve my fingers over the top.

-The video played back on my HDTV looked terrible. It looked better played back on a computer, using either the supplied software or Windows (Vista) Media Player. Still, using the "ultrafine" setting, the computer playback was not as good as watching old standard TV. More like watching a VHS tape, for those who remember VHS. Comparing the monitor image to the camera LCD, there was only slightly more detail noticable on my 20" screen than I could make out on the small LCD.

-Outdoors on a sunny day the LCD washes out, even with brightness set on max. You will still get a vague image to help you point your camera, but no real detail until you play it back.

The reason I gave it three stars is because it was relatively cheap and, as they say, you get what you pay for. I'm thinking I might trade this in for an HD model.

What ever you can see (20/20 vision) in the dark is how the camera will see it. The zoom is about as much as anyone will need. This camera can zoom up close on objects that I can't even see. Anymore zoom and you may as well get a high powered telescope.

Pros:

Low lux

open the lcd screen and it's on

The LCD screen brightness adjusts automatically to the surrounding brightness. Gets brighter in the sun and darker in a dark room

good image stabilization

cool automatic record when it detects movement

cool time lapse feature. (Record anything and see it played back in 2 sec, 5 sec, 10sec, 30 sec, 1 mintue, 2 minutes)

Very easy to use menu options

Easy to download files to PC

a lot smaller than I thought it would be

Cons:

Does not take still photos (but you wouldn't use that feature on any camcorder, that's what cameras are for).

No manual lens cover

What you get with this package is a battery that only lasts 50 minutes. A new battery cost at least $40

no flash memory

Bottom Line:

This is a great camera. I would buy it again. Much much more pwerful than my old Sony handycam that needed tapes. Handycam sucks, as well as their stupid SD card requirements. - Hd Camcorder - Jvc - Quality - Everio'

Automatic Air Freshener - automatic air freshener, electric

I HAVE USED ALL MAJOR BRAND AIR FRESHENERS AND THIS IS THE BEST BY FAR. THEY LAST FOR 2 MONTHS AND OVER THE LONG TURN THEY ARE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE.

I PURCHASED 3 AIR WICK FRESHMATIC ULTRA AND WILL CONTINUE TO BUY REFILLS. ALL THE SCENTS ARE NICE AND NOT OVER POWERING...MY FAMILY IS VERY SENITIVE TO STRONG SCENTS BUT THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT BOTHER US AT ALL. Air Wick Freshmatic Ultra Automatic Spray Starter Kit Odor Detect, Lavender and Chamomile, 6.17 Ounce

The scents that are available for the sprayer are not my favorite. However, the sprayer works as designed. You can pick to have it spray in increments. I have mine in my exercise room and it sprays every 36 minutes (the maximum interval). I would like if it had a longer interval, as the longest interval is more than often enough in a small room. I have guests over and they can hear it spraying in the other room. One young lady thought it was me, umm,, "relaxing".

i love this. i bought it awhlie ago, but it works great. i change the scent once every 3 weeks or month or so. if you are looking for some thing to keep the room fresh at all times, buy this!!! your money is not wasted.

I bought this actually from Walmart, on sale for $6.00. It was a good deal. It was simple to set up and works fine BUT... if you have or are used to a quiet home, be aware that this automatic air freshener will scare the crap out of you. You forget that its there or on and when it sprays or you hear it, it makes you jump. It's not extremely loud but loud enough to where it will frighten you. As for the scent, its fairly strong. I have mine set for every 36 minutes and the motion detector is off. The motion detector works really well; almost too well. Not recommended if you have a sensitive nose or allergies.

I have not had good luck with any of the Airwick products...I started out with the plug-ins and loved them until I had bought a bunch of refills and soon the plugs quit working...I bought new plugs and they worked about a week and burned out or just quit. I then tried the Imotion machine and loved it. I used it for 3 months and it worked fine so I bought another one plus 4 refills. You guessed it...now I have about $35.oo worth of machines and refills and the machines do not work. I am now going to give up on airwick products altogether. I am disappointed because I have been using airwick products since the 60's starting with the bottles with a pull up wick.

I've bought this product on Amazon. It is a good product. But the price is too high here. I have seen the same product with only $8.99 in food lion and no more than $10.00 in target. So...if you want to buy this, shop in store not online. - Air Freshener - Automatic Air Freshener - Electric - Air Fresheners'

Iphone Cable - usb, usb cables

I bought this cable to extend the length of a Wi-Fi dongle, so I could get internet in my Bedroom. Just what i wanted and needed, no lag, full-speed, really thick cable to prevent interference, and extremely long cable, plus you cant beat the price of $5.

The only problem i had was that one of the metal edges to the tip was bent, so i just got some pliers and put in back in place. Mediabridge - Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Extension Cable - A-Male to A-Female (10 Feet)

I purchased a web cam and purchased the cable thinking I would need a longer cable. I did not the cable that came with it was long enought. I just keep it might need it later. I purchased it because it said people that purchase the web cam got that cable, why I don't know I believe it is the same length.

Bought for use at home/office. I've got a midi keyboard that sits next to my desk, and none of my usb cables are long enough to reach from the keyboard to my laptop. I found a 6ft extension cable, used that, and then I used it for a printer at my office. bought this to replace it, works great. It'a decent cable, a lot cheaper here than at the store.

In general, this cable is a very good value and is serving me reasonably well as a USB extension for my iPad2, one that makes charging and syncing much more convenient. The construction quality of the cable itself is very good.

However, the connectors have been something of a problem for me. One connector was slightly misaligned and had to be bent back into shape when it arrived. This shouldn't be too much of a problem in the future unless I have to repeatedly connect and disconnect the cable, in which case I might need to keep correcting the alignment. The other connector fits a bit loosely into the USB port on my computer, and I occasionally have to jog it to get a proper connection.

If these problems show themselves to be corrected with time, then I will upgrade my rating to four or five stars. - Usb Cable - Usb Cable Extension - Usb - Usb Cables'

Travel Tripod - tripod, flip tripod

This is a good tripod for the Flip Ultra, but why not buy either of these two instead? They are a lot less money and is pretty much exactly the same thing!:

Vanguard VS41 Flexible MiniTripod

Sunpak 620-786 Mini-Spider Tripod

Really the only difference is the Vanguard model doesn't come with the different color feet and it doesn't say 'Flip'.

Or you could get the Gorilla Pod:

Joby GP1-01EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod (Grey)

which is a bit more versatile in that you can attach it to a pole or edge of a chair, etc.

A mini tripod really makes it easier to do videos since you can put it almost anywhere yet still get your Flip Ultra level. It also provides more stability to better prevent it from toppling over. Flip Video Tripod

You can't own a Flip Video (or any camera) without this nifty, lightweight tripod. It's a sturdy metal tripod that weighs about 12 ounces. The interchangeable rubber tips are a cool idea, but not really necessary unless you are a total "mix 'n match' freak. The legs are really flexible, which means you can mount this on just about any uneven surface. It would have been nice if they included a clip for vertical surfaces, but hey, for the price, it's a steal.

Honestly this thing is pretty silly. Yeah, its pretty much a necessary purchase if you plan on making vblogs with the Mino or any other sort of video where you need it to be still... I'm not upset with the product. However, you will laugh when you how small this thing is. I think calling this a tripod is a bit misleading... Mini tripod is more like it. Its barely any taller then the mino itself. Never the less.. it does its job well and the bendy legs help with certain surfaces. The price is awful though. 15 dollars for this? There is a 3rd party version that is exactly the same for 3 dollars.. i'd say grab that one instead if you get the chance. This is a over-priced, small accessory that at least does it's job well.

We picked up the Flip camcorder for my daughter Jessica Mellott, who is a pop singer. She wanted something simple to use to make videos for her Myspace and Youtube. The Flip is super easy, just press and record. To make it even easier we picked up the Flip Tripod accessory.

The tripod is small about 5 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide when closed. Opened it boasts flexible legs that bend to help you position the Flip so its easier to record yourself. The top screws easily into the tripod hole on the bottom of the Flip camcorder. Note the Flip tripod fits the bottom of the Flip Ultra camcorder only. There is no hole for the tripod in the regular Flip.

The tripod is packaged with black padded "feet" so it will not scratch your furniture. Included with the tripod are 4 sets of extra "feet" in hot pink, orange, white and yellow to match the different colors the Flip Ultra comes in.

With the help of the tripod, recording with the Flip is even easier and replaces an unsteady hand and makes adjusting the position of the camcorder more flexible.

A great little gadget for your Ultra Flip!

Lee Mellott

The tripod with flex legs is a nice design. However the threaded section that screws into the camera body is too long.

This does not allow the base of the camera to pull down flat against the top surface of the tripod the way it should. I have tried to resolve this matter directly with Flip but they have not been helpful.

Purchased rather on a whim along with my Flip camera and am grateful I did. The mechanics are very simple and user-friendly, and my girls like the interchangeable tips. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the packaging was a bit excessive. I purchased the Flip intending for it to get a lot of young use around our house, and it has. The children make delightful, spontaneous videos, but their camera work can be dizzying. When they use the tripod, their videos are infinitely more viewable by adults.

I think a necessary addition for young users.

Well I recieved my tripod from amazon in the mail yesterday and have spent some time with it,here are my thoughts.

pros:lightweight, well built and helpfull for very steady shots

cons:the rubber feet are a hassal to get on,can't tilt the camera

Well overall this is one of the most simple tripods i've ever used. The legs are made outta metal, which means it wont break easy.

So far Ihave used this for my youtube channel to increase the quality of my angles and its working very well for me.

overall if your a flip video camcorder owner and need the best buget tripod you can afford look no further

This is compatable with the "flip ultra" which is the niftiest camcorder I've ever used.

If you're getting the flip make sure it's the "ultra" so it will be compatable w/this tripod. And you'll certainly want the tripod if you ever want to include yourself in the videos.

Very inexensive but high quality. - Camcorder - Flip Tripod - Tripod - Travel Tripod'

Digital Camera Accessory - sdhc, sd card

There are some things to consider before buying this particular card or any other 32gb SDHC card on the market:

1. This is NOT an ideal card for a digital SLR like a D80, D90, Rebel XT, etc... That is because it is a class 4 device. The class of a SDHC cards has to do with how fast they read and write files, not how much storage they have. For a digital SLR, you should purchase a class 6 SDHC card most of the time. Class 6 cards will allow you to take 'bursts' of photos and not be limited by the card's capacity to write them. Also class 4 cards are slower reading data, meaning they will take longer to upload files to your computer. Upload speed is convenient, especially when loading large batches of files.

2. This card has far more storage than most people will need for their digital camera. Unless you like to keep all your photos on a SDHC card and never move them to your computer, or are a high volume photographer, there is very little need for more than about 8gb of storage space for most caeras. The possible exception to this is if you have a professional SLR that shoots files in the 16-20mb range--but if you do, you'll likely want a class 6 card anyway. If all you intend to use this card for is a digital camera, save yourself a lot of money and buy a PNY 8GB SDHC Card. If you're worried about running out of space on a vacation, buy a few of them. Otherwise you run the risk of having 'all your eggs in one basket.' If one card fails, you lose all your pictures instead of only a portion of them.

This card is fantastic for use in a video camcorder capable of writing to an SDHC card. (Check with the manual first to insure that a class 4 card will be fast enough first). It is also perfect as extra storage for an ultra portable computer or net book like the Asus EEE pc. Another great application would be as added storage to a personal media player or MP3 player equipped with a SDHC slot such as the Cowon D2.

There are other good 32gb SDHC cards on the market, some at cheaper price points than the Kingston card. IMHO, brand matters very little with something like a SDHC card, since they all are made pretty much the same way. None of the brands currently offering them (Transcend, PNY, Kingston) have high fail rates with their other products, so I believe they are all pretty similar. What you decide to buy will depend on whether you trust a particular brand, or who has the lowest price. All of them will work equally well. Kingston 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD4/4GBET

PREFACE:

I bought this card for extra disk space on my Asus EeePC netbook. I needed as much space as possible to supplement the very small SSD hard drive. I needed something with large capacity and relatively fast file transfer time.

PROS:

It shares the largest SD capacity on the market today with few others (Panasonic, Sandisk, and PNY) and is a quality name that I have had a good history with in the past. Its file transfer time is similar to the SSD drive in my machine so it basically acts as a second SSD for me at less than a quarter of the price!

CONS:

Its not the cheapest 32gb SD card(PNY) nor the fastest(Panasonic) but its good quality with a decent transfer rate.

CONCLUSION:

I'm very happy with its performance and capacity. I would like to see the price come down a bit, but that's the price of getting electronics of this caliber.

That's my input, take it or leave it :)

Excellent for the price. I give it a 4/5 because it performs slower than expected from a C4 SDHC card. I also have a Sandisk EIII 2GB. Although it doesn't have the class ratings because it's not SDHC, the Sandisk outperforms the Kingston in both read/write.

My test scenario: Using a Nikon D80 taking 6 shots continuously. The Kingston took considerably longer to write contents from the Nikon D80 buffer.

If you're looking for a high speed card in a similar scenario, then look elsewhere. However, if you want a good card and no particular need for speed, then I recommend getting.

I didnt realize how fast the point and shoot cameras are getting sooo many megapixels until I started looking for a good one for my mom... This card is no good for a 12 megapixel camera! It takes way too long to save each picture slowing down how fast you're able to take consecutive pictures! Go for the Sandisk extreme cards and dont look back!

I only have SLR cameras, and use the San Disk extreme cards because speed is crucial! Dont cheap out on a card after buying a nice camera, or you'll be sorry! Thats the first thing i noticed when showing her how to use her new Canon Point and Shoot camera is how SLOWWWWWWWW it took to save each photo before I could take another.. If waiting a few seconds between each picture is a non-issue, buy all means save some money and buy this card.

Bottom line: You're wasting your money buying this card to use in a high resolution point and shoot, which they all seem to be now days. Just too slow! - Kingston - Digital Camera - Sd Card - Sdhc'

Norelco Replacement Heads - norelco, 9160xl

This product contains three replacement heads for the Norelco 9160XL electric razor. After 1 1/2 years of continuous daily usage the original cutting heads were no longer giving a good shave. I decided to replace the original blades with this set.

The good:

1.)Easy to following instruction for replacement on the package, and the actual replacement process was incredibly simple and easy to do.

2.)The new blades functioned perfectly; because the decline in performance of the original blades was so gradual, it was difficult to believe how much of an improvement these replacement blades provided.

The not so good:

Only one complaint; the packaging. The replacement blade were embodied in a package that made it extremely difficult to actually get at the blades. There were a series of 6 grommet eyelets surrounding the entire package making it very secure. I literally had to force scissors between the layers of cardboard to get around the grommets to eventually get to the blades inside. In a word...frustrating. Plus, a slight slip and a bad cut may have occurred (I think everyone has experienced trying to open one of these newer hard-plastic wrapped items and knows just how difficult it can really be to get at the product inside).

Conclusion:

An excellent set of replacement blades. (I just hope they'll last longer than the 3 months it took for the original blades to start to lose their sharpness). Time will tell; but up to now, so far so good.

However, getting the blades out of this package could be considered a potential hazard.

5 Stars for the product itself, with 1 or 2 Stars off for the needless obstructive packaging.

Addendum Feb 24/08:

Interesting to note that they've changed the packaging on this product (since my original review) making it appear that it's less hazardous to access. However, as I haven't purchase this specific product package, I can't comment on the ease of access (or safety) of the new packaging.

R.Nicholson Philips Norelco HQ9 SpeedXL Replacement Heads

Amazing what a difference new shaving heads make. I hadn't noticed the gradual degradation in ease of shaving, and thought the problem was with the humidity. Got the new blades and my shaving time was cut by two thirds. Applied the cost savings over getting it in a store to overnight shipping.

Somehow Norelco actually made the HQ9 SpeedXL heads worse than the old lift-and-Cut heads. To make it look like the heads will produce a faster shave, they reduced the area of the outer ring to make room for two additional cutter rings inside the outer ring.

The problem? The inner rings have a slower surface speed than the old, larger area, outer ring. So you actually have a smaller high speed cutter area while the inner rings end up pulling your beard hairs when you try to shave as fast as your old Lift-and-Cut shaver.

Why can't you buy the old lift-and-cut heads to fit you new Smart-Touch shaver? Like all Norelco rotary rasors, each model uses a slightly different drive pin to make you buy the newer, more expensive, heads. Philips knows how to make their old products obselete so you will buy the new "better" stuff.

I purchased a Norelco 9160XL Smart Touch razor about a year or so ago. Bought these replacement heads as the original ones were worn out. Now the razor is working very well and I am back to enjoying my morning shave.

Changing the heads took less than 5 minutes. One thing I would recommend is that you routinely take the heads out (every 45 days or so) and give it a good wash.

Philips Norelco HQ9 SpeedXL Replacement Heads

I've been using Norelco rotary electric shavers all my life and this is the first time I've ever purchased replacement heads. What a surprise to find out it's just like getting a brand new shaver! My old Norelco was not performing as well as it used to and I wondered if it was time to upgrade to something "better" - whatever that might be. I decided just to save some bucks and try replacing the heads (just like they advise). Suddenly, all the little complaints I had about the performance of my old Norelco disappeared. I had a new shaver with the top notch performance I used to get. Try replacing the heads before you fork out big bucks for all the fancy, non-esssential "features" they now build into high priced electric shavers.

Norelco says to replace heads once a year. After owning several Norelco razors, including this one, my experience has shown that they are really good for about 2 years before you'll note a degradation in the quality of the shave.

The instructions they provide consist of a couple of pictures on the package. However, these are very easy to replace. Just remember to orient the blade correctly when you drop them in. There are two little tabs on each blade that have to be oriented right. If the blade doesn't seem to sit correctly, turn them until they drop down.

When you get a new Norelco razor or replace the blades on your current one you may not get the best shave for a week or two. It takes a while for the blades to "break-in. " As such, don't be disappointed if the first few shave with new blades do not seem as close and smooth as you expected. Give them a couple of weeks, they will improve. - Electric Razor - Razor Replacement Heads - 9160xl - Norelco'

Strathwood - wicker, strathwood

along with the lounger this is easily the best value in the enitre range & quite stunning. we bought 4 of these & are very pleased. they are comfortable, & take up little room. the price is simply incredible. we bought 2 of the wicker chairs; they too are lovely, & slightly wider, but they represent lesser value. however they do finish off the set wonderfully well.

the only criticism is with the cushions, they get dirty very quickly even from the rain, & though they can get washed, this is a real nuisance.

btw the loungers in the same collection are also different & wonderful. In fact, in short this is THE set to buy for value, individuality & style Strathwood Cypress All-Weather Wicker Bistro Chair, Brown

Love this little chair. It fits nicely into a small space without hogging too much room. Clean lines, modern looking, unique. I've paired it with the similar wicker sectional set. comfy but not 'overstuffed' (i don't like the oddly oversized furniture sold at many box stores). If the construction is similar to the sectional set, should hold up very well. Note that it is made of polyethylene, not PVC (polyvinyl chloride). PVC is very toxic in its manufacturing; i bought this chair specifically because it was not made of PVC/vinyl.

I received the chair way before the delivery date. I was satisfied with how fast I got it. I live on an island and everything takes a wee longer to get to me. As for the chair, I was a little disappointed with the size when I first saw it. It was my fault for not looking at the dimensions, but the picture gave me the sense that it was a large chair. It is much smaller than I anticipated. The chair is comfortable. It is well made. It is sophisticated and good looking.

This chair is just what I was looking for. I needed something for a small corner of a small room that would be easy to clean. The size is perfect. Although most people would probably use this chair outside because it is a durable resin, I think it's fine for indoors dressed up with a decorative seat cushion. I'm very happy.

I was looking for a smaller profile wicker chair set for my back porch, and these chairs fit the bill. They are stylish and comfortable, and they do not take up a lot of room. They are great for the price.

I was cautiously optimistic that the bistro chairs would look right with the sofa but once we recieved all of the pieces (sofa, coffee table, 2 chairs), we see that this all comes together as a great conversation set that cost ~$800 vs spending over $1,000.

We were very happy with all of our Strathwood purchases and these chairs are great. - Strathwood - Wicker'

The adapter does what it was designed to do, but I question why there was a need to include the USB cable with it, as one is already supplied with the Kindle. This item could have been supplied a bit cheaper. In addition this, bearing in mind I'm in Australia, I have since found that I could have purchased just the plug without the cable, locally, and a lot cheaper. Amazon Kindle AU (Type I, Australia) Power Adapter [Fits Kindle and Kindle DX]

why did i bother to buy this item? the kindle's battery life is amazing!! IF you turn off your wifi connection when your not using it. i have not even used this item and probably wont. so if you have access to a computer at least once a week then i would not buy this item.

It certainly does all that is needed. Not sure why: 1. it wasn't offered when I bought my Kindle - just a couple of months ago and 2. why it comes with the USB connector cord which is the same as the cord that came with my Kindle. But there you go! Certainly makes my Kindle more useful as I can now charge it up from a power point!

I bought the product because it showed as US$4.99 when I processed the purchase but I was finally charged US$19.99. Not worth the money as you can get a suitable adapter from JB HiFi or similar for AUS$9.95. The unit comes with a cable that you can use with a universal adapter.

Amazon is making a big mistake here with this non US power supply for their Kindle ~

> for people living outside of the United States they automatically receive the US power supply without being given any choice as to WHICH power supply they might like ~ US, European, UK or AU. That means these people have to purchase an ADDITIONAL power supply at the exorbitant cost of $20. Why? No seemingly good reason.

> If people want additional power supplies (for the new 3G Kindle that can update through the Whispernet in a number of other countries), they have to purchase a whole new additional power supply at the exorbitant cost of $20 rather than being given the opportunity to just buy the different plug. After all the original design of the power supply is made so this can be the case.

Amazon, usually does a great job of making their customers feel looked after which is one of their very good features, but here they get it wrong.

I recently bought this in conjunction with my new Kindle 3. When bought together the charger is only $5. I figured it would be easier than leaving my computer on overnight while the Kindle was charging, or finding a computer when staying at antiquated relatives' houses.

Yes, it does exactly what it should do. An additional benefit is that I can now charge any of my USB devices from the powerpoint. I would definitely recommend it when buying a Kindle.

This item does exactly what its meant to. It charges your kindle from a wall outlet. It has a small profile, is light and straightforward to use.

My only gripe would be that it should be included with the kindle and not a separate purchase. Unless you are going to carry a computer wherever you go, including on your travels, you are going to need one of these to charge your kindle.

The power adaptor (Type I for Australia) is a must have for travellers who don't have access to a computer to charge their Kindle. Long overdue for Australian users. Charges the Kindle very quickly. Very pleased with this product. - Kindle Power Adapters - Kindle 2 Wall Charger - Kindle 2 Power Adapter - Kindle International'

Black  decker - electric, handsaw

I am a contractor. My wife bought this Navigator saw for use around the house. I laughed at it and called it a "girl saw". One day a few years ago we had a knotty problem cutting a large beam. I reluctantly tried the Navigator. It worked perfectly. Now we have four of them on the job sites and the guys fight over them. Cutting pipe, notching framing members, accurately slicing large beams, I just wish they had made it a bit more durable. Black & Decker PHS550B 3.4 Amp Powered Handsaw with Storage Bag

Black and Decker PHS550B 3.4 Amp Powered Handsaw with Storage Bag

Love how much easier this saw is than a hand saw. I am a senior citizen, and I use this saw to cut up larger branches when I trim my trees into smaller bundles.

My only complaint is that I had a very hard time putting the saw blade into the slot. I didn't think the instruction on how to do that was clear at all. That is the only reason I didn't give it a higher rating. A strong man probably wouldn't like it, but it sure was what I needed. A regular hand saw would not have worked for me.

I needed an electric saw of some sort to cut some branches off this tree overhanging our townhouse. So, I went to Lowe's and was debating between getting this one vs. another one like it by Black & Decker which was cordless, and then compared those against a reciprical saw. I don't know jack about saws...however, I didn't want to spend $100 for a reciprical if I didn't need that much power. I had anywhere from 1-5 inch branches to cut apart.

So I took this home and it plows through branches like you cannot believe. You motion it back and fourth just like a regular saw, and within about 10 seconds, you can saw a good 3-4 inch think branch like it's butter.

Highly recommended for those type of applications. Have not tried it on plastic or anything else yet but love it so far based on just that one need.

It took me about an hour to finally figure out how to install the blade. The problem is that apparently the locking pin is sometimes in the wrong position upon arrival at our homes. The oval opening in the blade will only fit over the oval locking pin if the locking pin is in the right position. Use a flat-head screw driver to rotate the locking pin (easily seen through viewing opening in the housing), until the oval locking pin is in the right position to allow you to place the blade opening on top of it. At this point, the blade will be at a 90-degree angle to the machine housing, tip pointing downward. Push/pull the blade upward until it locks into place. Hope this helps. (Happy Birthday, John.)

I bought this saw primarily to cut up medium-sized branches trimmed off the trees hanging over my fence from the neighbor's yard. Up to about 1" in diameter, I use a Siskars lopper, but I needed something to cut larger branches to 18" long or shorter, so they'd fit in my green waste recycling bin. This saw is basically a powered hacksaw. It feels hefty and well-made. Even using the wood blade, it takes patience to cut through a 2" branch or larger. It is variable speed, but even so it sometimes grabs the wood and sets up some severe vibration, much like a Sawzall, and darn near scrambles your brain if you don't let go of the trigger. It seems to work better if I cut halfway thru and then flip the wood over and cut from the other side. It might help to put the wood in a vise or clamp it to something so you can keep both hands on the saw like the instructions recommend. It arrived at my house fairly promptly and in good condition, but I was upset to see it advertised on Amazon for $39 (I paid $44 a week earlier). Oh well, guess you can't win them all. Can't wait to see how the metal-cutting blade works. Overall, I'd say it's worth buying, especially if you're into power tools like I am. Good luck!

Just an additional comment: Since my 1st review, I used this saw to cut thru the nails they used to secure the roof sheathing to the facia boards, when I was replacing some rotting facia. In this instance, this saw was invaluable. With the metal cutting blade attached, it cut the nails like a hot knife thru butter. I actually couldn't think of an easier way to do this job, because prying on that thin sheathing was damaging the old plywood. Because of this job alone, the purchase of this saw was well worth it. Buy it if the price is right (Amazon prices flucuate like the stock market.)

As others have said, "This is a great tool" As a woman, some of the tools I see and try to use are either a) too awkward and/or b)weight to much. I love this handsaw - it is lightweight, easy to use and the cuts are great! I first used it on piping (copper, pvc) the cuts are nice and clean. I also have used this on my Elm trees for triming and the such, just great-my guy friends and co-workers laughed when I first got this and now they borrow it a lot!

This was the perfect handsaw for what I wanted to do which is cut down, then cut up tree limbs. The tree limbs I've cut down are about 3-4" diameter branches. I have also used this saw to cut down giant bird of paradise (about 12 feet high) and then cut them into smaller pieces to fit in yard waste receptacle for trash pick up. The tree stumps larger than 8" dia., I have sawed down the middle, then cut in from each side. The saw is easy for me to handle (a woman 5'4", 125 lbs). I also used the metal blade to easily saw off some 1/2" bolts and cut through some pvc pipes. Amazon's price was great and I'm very happy with my purchase

As previous reviews have noted, getting the blade installed in this saw is a heinous exercise in patience. I spent two hours fiddling with it and finally took it to a hardware store, where they discovered that the hole to align the blade was out of sync--but nowhere in the directions does it tell you that to adjust the screw on the other side of the release button, you MUST press the button in order for the screw to move. Once aligned it's still difficult to see inside to align the blade hole and saw. Good luck... - Handsaw - Recipricating Saw - Electric - Black And Decker'

Heart Rate Monitor Watch

This is my fourth HRM and by far the best. The display is big and very readable even in dim light without using the indiglo. My last two HRMs were the older model Timex Ironman 100 lappers. They became very unreliable even with new batteries. I used to have to use electrode gel just to get them to work at all. This HRM gives me an accurate reading immediately and continues to do so as my heart rate changes during my workout. It works great even without electrode gel. It doesn't have any fancy features but I don't need them. It does record your time in the zone that you can set and you average and peak heart rates. It also has a recovery time feature that measures how many BPM your HR drops in one minute. The sensor belt will also work with the HR display most treadmills and other indoor machines. This HRM has already improved my training significantly because it is so accurate and responsive. I highly recommend it. Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch

If you are looking for a heart monitor which is easy to use and very accurate this is the one for you. I am 53 y.o. in cardiac rehab. A similar Timex model was one of the HR monitors recommended by the rehab staff. However after much comparison shopping, this monitor had additional features including calorie counting, target heart rate beep which you activate if you want it on and indigo light. The strap is very light and comfortable. It is also extremely accurate and it comes with a user replacement battery. I just love it.

I was looking for a heartrate monitor to track not only my aerobics workouts but also my weight training workouts. I wanted a wireless monitor with a large enough display so it was easy to read (yes, I've joined the reading glasses population). I needed to be able to replace the batteries myself, and it would be nice if it could tell time in case I wanted to use it as a watch.

The Timex met all my needs and at a very good price. I was a bit concerned because I have a 54" chest and a fairly large wrist. I was also concerned because the packaging is not specific about whether it has a coded signal so that it does not pick up other heartrate monitor signals. The chest strap fits me well but if my chest gets too much larger, it's going to be a bit snug. The wrist band also fits but it's in the last hole, and so far, I haven't picked up anyone else's monitor or bled over onto anyone else's cardio machines.

I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

This is my first heart rate monitor, and I really couldn't be happier with it. The watch displays your heartbeat in real time with the little heart icon on the face. It recalculates every two seconds. It's simple to program it to your weight and target heart rate (just read the instructions), and the 'recall' button tells you all you want to know - time in your target zone, average heart-rate, estimated calories burned, etc.

Previous reviewers have said that they don't like not being able to see the time of day when the watch is in heart-rate mode. If you press the 'set' button it displays the time.

I'm in the process of burning off about 25 lbs of excess fat this summer. I'm cycling across the USA in my living room. This monitor is a very helpful tool for maximizing my cardio sessions. It's accurate, it makes workouts more fun and it lets me know when I have to get moving a little faster.

There's been a significant price increase since I bought this monitor (I paid $44 three weeks ago, now it's listed at $69?). But if I had it to do over, I'd still go with the Timex over the cheaper, lesser-known brand listed along side this monitor. If you look thru the reviews, more people are satisfied with the Timex and you know you're dealing with a reputable company who will honor their warranty.

The only 'cons' I can think of - #1 - The chest strap sometimes beeps when sitting idle, I guess because of electronic interference. This is not an issue when wearing the strap, but I'm thinking it may kill the battery before its time (easily replaced). #2 - The clasp on the chest strap is a bit scrawny. You have to force the tab thru it a little. I've seen no stress wear to the female part of the clasp, but if this part fails eventually, the business part of the chest strap will need to be replaced.

I hate to recommend products to anyone, and it's very rare that I'd five-star anything. But I can honestly say that this item has met or exceeded all of my expectations.

Congrats to the Celts!

Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor WatchI bought this heart rate monitor for both my husband and myself. We wanted one that we didn't have to send back to the manufacture or dealer everytime it needed a battery in the chest strap such as the Polar.

We've only been using them for about a month, but so far we really like them. It is very easy to learn hoew to set it and use all of the features. It also is very easy to get started. I put it on and just put a little water on the senors. In the past some of the HRM's I have owned I actually had to start sweating before they would engage.

The only thing on the negative side is that you can not see the time when you are in the Heart Rate Mode. That mode is all you can see. It bothers my husband, but not me.

I'd rate it a 5 instead of a 4, but we really haven't used them long enough to see if changing the battery goes smoothly. The 1st one we bought the buttons were jamed and my husband did change the battery to see if that was the problem. The battery was easy to change in the chest strap, but we had to send it back. The exchange went easily with Amazon.

With so many heart monitors available, I had some difficulty deciding on what to buy. I decided on the Timex T5G971 because I have always wore the Timex Iron Man. I have come to know Timex as a dependable and affordable sport time piece, and so far I am very happy with the heart monitor. It was easy to set up and works great! I have also read that other brands require that you send off to the company for replacement batteries, but such is not the case with the Timex.'

Square Trade Warranty - warranty, squaretrade

I started signing up with Square Trade because of their reasonable prices. I was a bit nervous, since I've only used Best Buy's warranty service and never had tried a mail-in service before, but the difference in price was significant enough to take a chance with it.

I just filed a claim with Square Trade and received astoundingly good service. None of the nonsense that I'm used to from Geek Squad- e.g., waiting for hours at the Best Buy service counter for someone to pay attention to me, then being told the issue isn't covered, or it'll cost extra, it'll take 2-6 weeks to send the unit out for service, etc.

None of that crap when I dealt with Square Trade. To the contrary, I received INSTANT help, yes it's fully covered, INSTANT e-mail labels for the return, great response.

I'll never use Geek Squad again. I'm a Square Trade fan now. Seriously- these guys are the best. SquareTrade 3-Year Computer Warranty Plus Accident Protection (Computer $400-500)

I have used Square Trade Warranties for at least 5 items so far. Had to cash in on 2 of them since one was ipod and it cratered, and other was laptop and it died too. Square Trade first of all has the best priced warranties ( I dare you to compare to Best Buy and other places where you pay well over 100/200 for laptops) and these warranties are straight forward and without gimmicks. In both cases, my items were not repairable and they determined it pretty quickly and gave me the money for replacement and I am happy about that. No hassles, no arguments about value or how damage occurred, etc. Just straight across the board, you give them your side, they review the item and voila! presto, you are give the amount you insured. Now that is the right way to do business, since lets face it, when you are not able to use your ipod or laptop, you want to get back into gear as soon as possible and not have to wait for weeks, with Square Trade you can be up and running pretty quickly. Unfortunately they are no longer selling them in certain states, and my state is one of them, otherwise, I would keep on buying them again and again. If you are fortunate to live in states where they do sell, then definitely avail yourself of their warranties, you will be glad you did.

This is the second SquareTrade warranty I have had. The first one was on a laptop I purchased several months ago. Only days after I received the laptop from Amazon, I spilled a drink all over the keyboard. One call to SquareTrade and I had a UPS shipping label to send the broken computer to them. Less than two weeks later, the money for the computer (minus the $50 deductible) was deposited into my account. They are fast and their customer service agents are polite and knowledgeable. This is the only company I'll ever use for warranties.

My laptop died Thursday, I filed a claim Friday, printed my shipping label, sent it out Monday, had my claim approved Thursday and money in my paypal account Friday (you can also have them mail you a check).

Compare this to waiting weeks or even months to get a warranty repair from Best Buy or the manufacturer, and then consider that squaretrade is usually way cheaper. What else is there to say? If they can't fix it, they pay you cash so you can buy a new system of your choosing, not some "comparable" refurbished unit they have lying around. When I had a question about packing up and shipping my laptop, their phone service was quick, friendly, and helpful. I'm never buying an extended warranty from anyone but squaretrade again.

I had bought this warranty when I purchased my new laptop. My laptop had arrived and worked fine, but after about a week it wouldn't turn on. I had eventually turned it back on but now my laptop's touch mouse didn't work. Since it was a hardware issue I tried to file a claim and all they had to tell me is that they closed my case and I am not covered for my laptop coming to me damaged when it had not. But they chose to refuse to listen to my claim, and now I have to use an external mouse and can no longer use my touch mouse on my laptop. I would recommended people to avoid this company since they choose not to help their customers when I was clearly covered because my laptop did not arrive with damage. I would NOT buy from this company.

I had my netbook for a little over a year when it sustained water damage. Fortunately I had a Square Trade warranty with accidental damage protection. I filed a claim and they sent me a shipping label. Within a couple of days of receiving my netbook they had paid out the claim through Paypal (my purchase price, minus $50, because it was an accidental damage claim). Great communication from the beginning to the end of the process. If you're thinking about buying a Square Trade warranty, I would highly recommend that you go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, if something happens to your item, you'll just be out the money you spent. - Warranty - Computer - Squaretrade - Laptop'

Apple Computer Accessories - lithium, macbook pro

I purchased this item as a replacement for 1.5 year old battery that came from the manufacturer. My previous battery had something wrong with it, in a period of 2 months, it went from 85% health, to about 40% health, and then in a period of about 2 days it dropped below 20% health. This made it so i was getting < 1 hour battery life which was unacceptable. I was at about 290 cycles when it was at 40% health, and I called apple, but they said since it's been over a year they wouldn't do anything about it (which contradicts a lot of things I've heard from other users experiencing the same issues).

At any rate, my new battery is here, popped it in, drained it, gave it a boisterous charge, and now i'm getting somewhere between 3.5 to 4 hours battery life on a full charge. I was appalled after 1 cycle though, the health dropped to 99%, but now I'm nearing 20 cycles and it's still at 99%. Works for now, hopefully this one will last the rated 300 cycles (apple says 300 cycles should have a health of 85% still). Apple MA348LL/A 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery (Retail Packaging)

The battery in my 2006 MacBook Pro swelled up and had to be replaced under warrantee in 2006. About a year ago, the replacement battery which I had used for 2.5 years was down to 45% of its original capacity so I bought this battery from Amazon Prime as a replacement. It seemed to work okay for about 4 months, and then strange things started to happen.

1) My computer would shut off suddenly with no warning with plenty of charge showing on the battery indicator LEDs. Resetting the PMU (following Apple's instructions) seemed to work, though I no longer got the "running on reserve power" warning but rather a shutdown at the low end of the battery charge.

2) Then after a few months the computer would only run for about 1.5 hours on a full charge. The power indicator showed 2:30 of charge, but it would go down to 0:00 in 1.5 hours and then shut down. Again I followed the documented procedure to reset the PMU -- it did not help.

3) As of December 2009, I could barely get 30 minutes out of the battery, even though the battery health monitor said it had 90% of its original capacity.

4) Finally, as of January 2010, one year after it arrived, the battery is completely DEAD. The charge status LEDs do not light up at all when the button on the battery is pressed. It is no longer recognized as being installed so the computer won't charge it, and the computer goes into hard sleep if the power cord is removed. I reinstalled my old battery and it works fine (except for having only 45% of its original capacity). But 45% on a working battery is much better than 90% of a DEFECTIVE BATTERY.

If I had bought the replacement from Apple, they would (with a little complaining) recognize it as obviously defective and replace it, as they did the defective battery that came with the computer originally.

Be aware that Amazon has no provision whatsoever for replacing defective merchandise unless it is within their return "window", which in the case of this battery is ONE MONTH. The defect started to show up 4 months after purchase. There is no place to go on this web site to complain, other than this review!

MORAL: These batteries fail after a period of months so buy them from dealers that will stand behind them, not just for a month replacement window!

Be aware that Apple considers batteries "consumables" and are not covered by any warranty. The warranty is tied to your MacBook Pro. If your laptop is out of warranty, so is your battery. This, sadly, is what I discovered when I called Apple tech support about my defective batteries.

I have 2: one that originally came with my laptop, and one I purchased separately for extra power on the road. Both used minimally and about 2 years old when they started having major problems holding a charge and reporting the wrong remaining charge. With one battery, at 85% remaining, the laptop would just completely and suddenly shut down.

These batteries are supposed to last up to 300 cycles, according to the specs. Mine died way before that. When not on the road, I remove the battery and run on AC power, in order to prolong the battery's lifespan (heat deteriorates the cells). One battery has had 146 charge cycles and the other has had 66, as reported by the System Profiler. The charge capacity is wildly erratic, and both show up as "Check Battery" in Profiler status.

Apple issued a battery recall on this SKU, but unfortunately, mine was not eligible for replacement. Non-recalled batteries like mine still have quality control issues, which Apple will not acknowledge.

You may be fortunate to have a good battery and not have to go through the problems I experienced. Mine are 2/2 defective, so I am frustrated at Apple's lack of support. Just something to be aware of when deciding to purchase this battery as a spare because $110 is not a small chunk of change. - Apple - Lithium - Macbook Pro - Battery'
