Rosacea - rosacea

My whole life...problems with acne, rosacea, thousands spent on the best dermatologists, and I was down to nothing. My skin kept getting worse, my dermatologist said that the only thing left for me was serious meds that were going to be affecting my immune system. No way, I am NOT into chemicals and doctors! So, one day I had nothing to do, went and spent a couple of hours and a couple hundred dollars on skin care products from Sephora. I decided to buy these wipes and they are sheer magic. I am confident again, very rarely get breakouts and in general, my skin has improved like 90%. Now all I do at night is use the wipes, some eye cream and call it a day. I love Philiosophy for changing my life. Sounds dramatic, but I am ecstatic. Philosophy Purity One-Step Facial Cleansing Cloths, 45 Count

I travel alot for mountain bike racing, camping and other activities. As someone with sensitive, acne-prone skin I rarely change my routine. However, I recently purchased these for a weekend camping trip and love them so much that I use them every day. One really is enough to take off even the heaviest makeup and it leaves your skin tingly fresh and smooth.

I bought these wipes simply because I'm just plain lazy to take my make up off everynight. I've used facewash by philosophy before, so I knew this product will be good also. It takes off all of my make up, and the cloth is big enough to just use one at the time.

These Philosophy Purity One Step Cloths are amazing. I use them every day. I now have a Super Size Purity in the shower to use as soap for every bath and shower. The clothes are a wonderful addition to my daily cleaning regime before bedtime

I am a total wipe addict - baby wipes, anti-bac wipes...you name it, I love them. I'm also totally lazy when it comes time to go to bed, and the whole face washing ritual is often too much. These seem like a perfect solution. However, my skin is significantly less happy with these than with the Purity wash. In fact, I find that my skin behaves much better with plain unscented baby wipes than with these. Having said that, everyone's skin is different, so maybe they'll work well for you! They smell the same as the Purity wash, they don't leave your skin sticky, and they do a good job of removing makeup. - Rosacea'

Scarf - shawl, pashmina

If you are as confused as I was about which 'pashmina' shawl/stole to order, look no further. This one is beautiful. It has a lustrous sheen, good drape, fringe that moves like you want it to, and is amazingly soft. I bought it for my beach wedding, and know I'll enjoy wearing it for many years to come. It's a bit more expensive than some of the other suspiciously cheap wraps out there, but is well worth the money. It looks like silk, and the feel is even softer. Great product, would recommend to a friend, and am considering buying another in a different color. I got mine from Saka's, and have no complaints about the seller. 78" x 28" Eco-Friendly Bamboo Rayon Soft Solid Pashmina Shawl / Wrap / Stole - Silver Grey

I ordered this for our wedding-vow renewal, as I don't trust the weather (or the air conditioning at the church) quite enough to bare my shoulders in mid-November here.

I debated between several shawls, some of which were significantly cheaper than this one. I'm SO glad I ordered this one, though. The bamboo rayon is SO elegant and silky-soft! I've been meaning to knit myself a shawl from bamboo-rayon yarn, and after experiencing this shawl, that might just be my next knitting project. It is beautiful and will go with my dress exquisitely. It drapes beautifully, is comfortable, and even as a larger woman, this fits me more than adequately.

I do wish it had care instructions; initially, I will hand-wash it and hang it to dry, so as not to cause undue shrinkage.

You will not regret purchasing this shawl. I am absolutely delighted.

I ordered this shawl as an accent for a wedding, and it IS incredibly soft. The only negative is that, when I pulled it out of the packaging, there was mud on it. I don't believe it said anywhere that these shawls were pre-owned. My mother thinks they must be made in Sri Lanka or something. - Pashmina - Pashmina Wrap - Shawl - Scarves'

Black  decker - 18 volt, cordless drill

Wow, what a great value from Amazon. I built my entire deck with this drill on two charges. It has all the power I need around the house.

I looked at several other makes at more than twice the price before I bought this unit. I'm very happy I went with this one. The chucking system works very well too.

I have no complaints with this fine product from Black & Decker. Shipping was very fast too. Black & Decker HPD18AK-2 18-Volt High Performance Drill with 10 Accessories

I don't own this drill, but I used my friend's to build a huge outdoor wooden playsets. It took three days to build, and did it all on one charge.

One really great feature on this drill is the ability to increase or decrease the amount of torque. What I built was made out of cedar, which can split really easy especially the thin planks around the railings.

I'll be picking one up.

I just received the drill so haven't given it much of a workout yet. But I am impressed with the torque...it really makes even my dull bits look good. (I really plan to sharpen those bits....someday.) I have been using a 14V B&D for several years and I get nothing but slippage with the bit going nowhere. In fact I bought Skill AC drill for the rough stuff...which will now go in my RV and this 18V will take the place of all my other drills. I also like the ability to pick a useable torque for setting screws, an impossible task with any other tool I ever had.

I really like having the two batteries included although I doubt I willl be doing enough drilled at one sitting to run out of battery power.

Again in my life I asked myself; "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

I moved into my own place a couple years ago and bought a 3.2 volt tiny drill for all my drilling needs. Even in my tiny condo I've had a couple projects where a drill that small just doesn't cut it. My latest project was to install shelves on a wall, which required drilling a 2.5" screw directly into a stud. I didn't even have to pretend like my drill was going to work, so I borrowed a neighbor's 14 volt, and that got... some of the screws all the way in. I decided to pull the trigger and buy this one for $70 or so, if only to finish up the job and collect dust until I move to my next house, but it's clearly a powerful drill. For larger projects, the second battery pack that comes with it will be very useful too so I can be charging one while using the other. - Cordless Drill - Cordless Nailer - Drills - 18 Volt'

Lightning Switch Wireless - wireless switch, lightning switch wireless

I needed this product because three basement lights were all pull-strings, and my kids could not reach them to turn them on and off. Because I put a playroom downstairs, I wanted to give them a little bit more independence. I purchased three of this product because product description said that you could put multiple lights on one frequency. Very innovative!

When I received the product, the installation was a snap. We chose to use the sticky pads instead of the screws. We have found that because of the wireless aspect, the lights down always turn on and off when you click them. They are a bit touchy. Also, they have to be mounted in a place with a clear view to the light fixture (i.e. not around the corner) or this increases the touchiness. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise, I (and my children) are perfectly happy with them. Carlon HW2162 Wireless Light Socket Switch

This product is great, I have only had these in use for a week so far, but they are a real time saver for installation is a snap. It is nice to have the double sided tape along with the screws (a choice on how to mount) included in the package, especially since I have an old house with plaster and latte, and using screws to install can be more of a hassle than it is worth. Also this product is so clearly a quality product, very well made, and I expect it will last a long time. The ability to use four different channels to prevent interferance with other units used in the same vicinity is really nice. Also for a multi light fixture you can put all lights on one frequency, and control from one switch. These devices are working well with my compact florescent bulbs too!(what a plus).

4/11/09 I was asked for more detail, these lights get their power from the socket that they screw into, therfor the lights power source has not changed. The switch for the wall has a small very long life battery in it, I am not sure of the lifetime for this battery, but due to the kind of load, and use it will get I would expect them to last for many years. I am still very satisfied with this product, and would purchase them again in a heartbeat. Money well spent!

4/2/11 Unfortunately these units that I put in my sons room, are no longer working. I believe that the reason they no longer can be turned on or off is due to overheating. They were used in a cieling fixture with glass housings for the lights with tight tolerances to the units, which when the unit stopped switching I noted that the unit was very hot, I think next time I will try this same unit with the glass housing removed to allow better air circulation to maintain temperature and therfore extend the lifetime of the unit. Overall still very satisfied with this device. I think they definately need the air movement though to extend lifetime.

I am happy with the performance of this product.

However, installation leaves something to be desired. The screw holes do not match up with standard wall mount hardware. So you can't just pull an existing switch out, hard wire the light and then throw this switch over it.

We had a place where we needed a second light switch for a three way light effect. So I purchased two sets because you can set them to the same frequency. That is cool.

Also the switch plate they give you does not pull tight against so you get a slight hollow behind look. If you didn't paint all the way to the switch mounting, you can see bare wall behind it.

However, it has been working great.

5 stars for functionality

2 for ascetics.

Using this wireless switch for a closet light with a pull chain.

Initially, the switch only worked 7 out of 10 times... until I fine tuned it...

1) Make sure the switch is orientated the correct way to the cover plate...

2) Make sure the top of the switch is up when installed...

3) Make sure the two cover plate screws are tightened enough...

Now... the switch very rarely does not work on the 1st touch.

I would buy one again.

I got this for a light in the hallway that was previously operated by a button on the actual fixture. Our options in replacing the fixture were pretty limited until I came across this. When I first tried it, it didn't work at all. Then I changed it to channel C on both (the default was A) and it worked. I was about to return it but couldn't find the invoice and decided to tinker with it. Now it works great and it's exactly the solution I was looking for since I was able to put a normal wall sconce even though there is no hard wired light switch for the fixture.

I purchased this product as a temporary solution as I work on a room...Love it...it does what it says it does...it is wireless so at times the response may not take when you hit the switch but this is in rare occassions....anyhow, the product works well using the new florescent energy savings bulbs...will use the regular light bulbs later on to see if the heat generated will affect the product as some commentators have said (I will do this just for my curiosity)...but for the meanwhile, great product especially since you can put the switch whereever you like...ENJOY AND WORTH THE COST...

If you are unfortunate enough to have purchasd this product, you will find that it turns on/off unreliably. The package lists the maximum range is 50 ft. No way! I found out that you have to be in clear line of sight and no more than 12 ft. Any obstruction definitely degrades performance. Not what you would expect. Buyer beware!

I purchased 3 of these in the fall of '10 and they have all failed. I am a professional handyman, and while I always recommend the always reliable method of running wire and installing a standard switch, that can be costly. I offer my customers this option as a significant savings, with the caveat that there are disadvantages (batteries that must be replaced, unreliable wireless signaling, and a less-than-solid switch). In years past, I always used Heath's similar product. It uses a 9-volt battery and has proven to be much more reliable. Some of those units, installed 5 years ago or more, are still working. However, as far as I've been able to learn, Heath only offers two channels, meaning you cannot install more than two of these in your house or they will interfere with each other. That has not been a problem until late last year when a customer asked me to install these switches in 3 closets. I used one Heath, and two Carlons, as they have 4 channels. One of the Carlons died within 6 weeks. I determined through switching out the components with the other working light that it was the receiver at fault (the part that screws into the light socket). I purchased the third unit right away to replace the defective one, and sent the defective unit to the company for a refund. They would not give me money - only another switch/receiver unit. Great - that's like going to a restaurant and getting lousy food and then getting a coupon for a free meal on your next visit. I did receive the replacement unit. Last week, my client called and said both [Carlon] lights do not work. This is one of the originals I purchased, along with the replacement I purchased 6 weeks later later. I measured the voltage on all the batteries and they were all reading about 3.2 volts each (well above the required 6). I have not tested them yet with a working unit but I tried both switches (transmitter) on each of the receivers and nothing works on any channel, so I am guessing it is again the receiver. This is the part other reviewers have said gets very hot (it does). At this point I am recommending that the client put two Heath units in two closets and hard wire the third closet. (By the way, the original Heath I installed at this home is still working.) I will not waste money and time on this Carlon product again. I can pretty much guarantee if you have one that is working, it won't be for long. I do however, recommend a Heath unit. They have been very reliable for me and my clients over the long haul. Just be aware that if you need more than two, they will overlap each other, even at opposite ends of the house - the signal is relatively strong. - Wireless Switch - Remote Switch - Lightning Switch Wireless - Wireless'

Reloading

This case lube pad works fine, but you need to be really careful not to get too much lube on each case or you'll end up with compression dents. The other issue is that the lube tends to leak out between uses and I end up with case lube dripped all over whatever happens to be under this pad.

It is easy to lube multiple cases at once, but I think the spray lube is a lot more convenient and a lot less messy. RCBS Case Lube Pad'

Bath Shower Caddy - 3m, shower

I love this caddy! It was easy to attach to my tile wall. I had no problems with it whatsoever. I kept our soap in there as well as 5 or 6 bottles of face scrub, shampoo, etc... It's easily removed from the wall and therefore easier to clean. Honestly, I love these 3m adhesive products. I'd buy any of them. I'm thinking about the toothbrush holder next. 3M Command 17603B Large Shower Caddy with Water-Resistant Strips

We have two of these and they work GREAT! The only problem I had was when I installed one but didn't follow the instructions (holding the strips against the shower wall for 30 seconds), and it fell off after a day or two. Once I followed the instructions, they have stayed up for YEARS. We have Costco sized containers of shampoo and conditioner in them and they don't budge. And I just saw that they're dishwasher safe, which makes for super easy cleaning. I can't recommended these more!

This is just what I wanted. Goodbye to rusty poles and suction cups! Very happy!

Note: Test before you buy. Some folks give this product a poor review when it doesn't adhere to the surface of their choosing. Personally, I feel that is unfair. The fact is, the adhesive strips are going to stick well to some surfaces and not others. Don't just assume that because you have a certain surface that it is going to stick. TEST FIRST. Inexpensive 3M Command hooks and strips are available in almost any store. Buy some. Try a hook out in your shower and hang something with a little weight. See how well it holds. If it does, and you like this shower caddy, then you should get it. If it does not hold, no big financial loss. (You could still probably find a place in your home where the 3M Command Hooks *will* work.)

My caddy has held up on my shower tile for 30 days. It has survived many showers. When cleaning my shower, I remove the caddy (the caddly slides up and off small plastic panels that stay adhered to the tile). The caddy has survived two full shower cleanings. I will update my review if anything changes.

I was actually hesitant to try this caddy because my shower tile is not smooth like glass. It is not porous, but it has a slight texture to it. Honestly, the texture may be beneficial--in a way that other surfaces require a good "scuffing" before adhering products such as paint, tile, inner tube patches, etc.

In the end, I give this caddy a big thumbs up and I am VERY happy with it. You may be too. Again, try testing with inexpensive 3M Command Hooks first.

I've had my shower caddy for YEARS. 5 apartments over the course of 5 years! Every time I move, one of the first things I do is hang up the caddy on the shower wall with replacement strips. You HAVE to press down on them when you stick them on! I've *never* had mine fall down off any of the walls, even after being up for 2 years in once place!

I love, love, love Command strips- they work fabulously on most walls, as long as you follow the instructions and weight/use guidelines!!

I love this shelf. We have it loaded up with about 4 bottles of shampoo & conditioner, and shave gel... it holds tight! After trying various others, this one is the best!! Ours arrived without the razor hook, but otherwise, it has been great. Stuck strong on fiberglass shower unit, no slippage like suction cups mount shelves, and actually holds LARGE bottles. We love it!

This is the first caddy that actually stayed on the wall. I have tried many different caddies and they all seem to fall down. I don't have a tiled bathtub/shower and suction cups don't usually stay. This was the first product that I found that did. It's a great caddy for putting your shampoos, conditioners, etc. Be very careful on how your originally put the caddy as you will not be able to move it very easily if you place it wrong.

In addition, you don't have to worry about this one rusting, which seems to be a problem with most of the other stainless steel caddies. As always, you'll get the best price here. True, it isn't as big as many of the other ones, but you may not need one that big. I used this because I love Dove soap, but as anyone who has kept any type of soap with a good amount (as compared to other soaps) of lotion in it on those built in shower soap caddies...it get's mushy and mushy fast. And when it isn't getting mushy, you end up playing foot hockey with the thing when it slides off said built-in shower caddy. No more. I installed this thing with ease, and now all our shower condiments, or whatever you call them, are out of the way. I tested the strength of the caddy by putting a decent amount of downward pressure and they seem to be pretty sturdy. They even give you an extra set of adhesive for when you end up moving it later on down the road, or if you just messed up the first time around trying to install it. There are also general replacement adhesives at any moderately-sized grocery or warehouse stores in cased you messed up twice or you fantsy moving apartments often. It's not shown in the product pic, but there's actually a little hook with two prongs on the end that you can hook your back brushes (or whatever else) onto. You just insert the non-pronged side sideways into the little slits you see on the caddy and then turn it flat so it "attaches" onto the caddy. If you're having trouble visualizing the size of the caddy and whether you can accommodate your shower condiments (I'll figure it out, eventually), you can fit a decent-sized (meaning non-Costco) shampoo/conditioner bottle and a bar of soap on each end, and a bar of soap right in the middle. You might be testing the strips this way in the long haul though. Overall, this is a great buy that solved more than one problem for me. Two-thumbs up.

I had been looking for a shower shelf for some time only to be disappointed each and every time. Finally, I found this shelf to hold on to the ceramic tile in our shower. The tile had a texture and would not hold anything that I tried to stick to it. This product worked...and is still working...holding shampoo, conditioner, body wash..and shaving cream! A+ product. - Shower - Bath Accessories - Bathroom - 3m'

Ethernet Cable - cat5, ethernet cable

If you choose to use a wire-based Internet connection, like my father and I did for security reasons, this cable is long enough to connect a laptop on one side of an apartment to an Internet modem on the other side of the apartment. The protective covering is still holding up after several months of usage, and it is 50 feet in length, as advertised. Even if your cable has a lot of slack because you only needed, say, 35 feet of cable, you can safely wrap up the portion that isn't needed and conceal it under furniture so you avoid tripping on it. CAT5e RJ45 PATCH ETHERNET NETWORK CABLE 50 FT WHITE

Got a new Samsung BluRay with Netflix capability on Black Friday. Problem was the TV and BluRay are in one room, and my DSL modem to connect to the internet is 30 feet away in another room. This was the perfect solution to that problem, at a very nice price! Works great.

The CAT5e RJ45 Patch Ethernet 50 White cable came in a timely manner. The cable works just fine the only exception is that the clip that locks the cable in place broke and I have to sometimes plug it back in. other than that the cable appears to be of good quality.

So, I make a living pulling data cable and the such; I speak with some authority on the quality of this cable. The ends of the cable are terminated on to quality ethernet tips but by no means the upper end of the spectrum. The tips have the tab that depresses the standard clear clip/tab to release the tip from the port which is a nice addition. The doubled up sheathing just before the tip looks decent but doesn't feel like it could take that much abuse. My biggest complaint with this cable is that it just is not very durable. The outer jacket that covers the cable is, by comparison to patch cables used on computer racks, just not very tough. I would say that if you expect any foot traffic whatsoever on your 50ft patch cable that you avoid this because it just simple won't last. Unfortunately I don't know the gauge standard for the durability of the outer jacket. If the cable is going to sit with little if any movement then it would be OK...The price is right though. I think a 50ft cable in tech outlets is much more expensive.

I only needed this cable to receive updates for my blue ray player and TV in another room. It is only used for short periods so for the price it works fine for me. If I were going to use it more permanently I probably would buy a more expensive cable.

This product is probably the most supple of cables I have felt. Why??? It is loaded with the thinnest wire I've ever touched!!! The wires inside this cable are 28 AWG - 28 is *V*E*R*Y* thin. The thinner the cable, the more resistance it gives. Compared to a 24 AWG cable of 50 feet (that I am replacing because of the blue color), the "ping" latency on my Mac went from 29 miliseconds to 374 milliseconds with this 28 AWG. I then plugged this into the Sony BluRay - It just couldn't keep up. I'm piping in 2.4Mbps, so there's never been a problem.

I feel really ripped off on this one and, for me, the loss of the free shipping on a better-built replacement (because I bought over $25 on my order, I got "super saver shipping.")

If you are just doing webmail, casual browsing, this will probably work. I would highly recommend that you avoid bending the cable at a sharp angle, pinching it under furniture, etc... The thin wires are more delicate.

This is a high quality network cable perfect for laptop users like myself who can't use wireless and want to be 'mobile' with their laptops. I have gone through several network cables trying to find a good one - and I believe this is it!

previous problems with other cables

- Don't last - the part of the cable near the connector gets twisted/flexible and eventually stops working. This cable has much sturdier connector 'housing' so there is no 'twist point'

- Connection isn't stable - I have had 3 cables that would lose their connection with the internet even without being unsnapped just from 'jiggling' the computer. This one never drops even as I'm dragging it down the hall. Beware of the cheap blue cables!

Being your average computer user, I needed something that would make my lap-top a bit more useful in my home. This cable allows me to use my laptop at various places on the second floor of my home. Until I decide on a wireless system, this will suit me just fine. - Ethernet Cable - Ethernet Cables - Cat5 - Cat5e'

Planet Of The Apes - post-apocalypti, tv series

This above average 1974 TV spin off from the enormously popular Planet of the Apes Films only ran for 14 episodes.

But as a; "Simian Saga" fan I'm very glad it's finally got released.

Three Astronauts travel through a time warp in their ship, and end up going from 1981 to crashland on 3085 Earth.

One Astronaut doesn't survive the landing, these episodes concern the adventures of the two survivors as they try to understand what's happened to themselves and the world around them, and hopefully get back to their own time.

They also team up with a chimpanzee called Galen, and all three go on the run. Suspicious of everyone they meet, both Apes and Humans.

You'll have to buy it to find out more as I don't do spoilers.

Some of the actors are the same as in the Films, but one crucial difference from the films are the Humans on this Earth can talk.

It was good to see Roddy McDowall reprise his role from the films.

Mark Lenard (Spocks Dad Sarek from Star Trek) plays the military commander Urko.

This show is worth a look of anybodys time.

The Trap.

The Good Seeds.

The Liberator. (This episode never aired during original run.)

Up above the World so High.

~~~~
The show was eventually cancelled because it didn't score enough ratings in the US.
But it was very popular with viewers (like me) and TV critics in the UK.
A shame. Planet of the Apes: The Complete TV Series
After the success of five Planet of The Apes motion pictures, it was decided to try Television next, casting Roddy McDowall in the lead role as the sympathetic chimpanzee, Galen (the ape role to which McDowall professed as his favorite in later interviews). Ron Harper & James Naughton were cast as astronaut's Alan Virdon and Peter J. Burke who's spaceship gets caught in a time warp, transporting them 2000 years into the future...a world ruled by apes.
Unlike the film series, humans in this time period were able to speak. The TV series had a very unique way of discussing very important topics such as racism, loyalty, honor, as well as the value of ape/human friendship, and many more. Unfortunately the series was cancelled after only 13 broadcasts (having something to do with the fact that CBS put the show up against "Sanford and Son" & "Cheecho and The Man", two of the most popular shows on television at that time..very unwise indeed).
It was only many years later that the show found new life when many episodes were cut and spliced together to form a sort of "Movie Length" that began airing along with TV broadcasts of the theatrical films. Many people began to realize just how good a show Planet of The Apes truly was.
Now, for the very first time (with the exception of Australia), the complete series is available for home viewing..on DVD no less, with the added bonus of an additional episode that never aired originally ("The Liberator"). I have viewed all 14 episodes in this DVD box set and all I can say is "BRAVO! Fox has done it again!" Now don't expect the picture and sound quality to be tremendous, although the picture is very decent and the sound, though presented in Mono, isn't bad either. But considering it's only a TV series, I really wasn't expecting any heavy duty remastering to take place here.
There are four episodes per disc, except for #4 which has two episodes, plus 2 bonus trailers (not indicated on the back of the box) for Planet of The Apes The Evolution Box Set & Planet of The Apes The Tim Burton Film Version. See for yourself why many consider this show a cult classic.
There were only a few things I never understood about it. In the first episode ("Escape From Tomorrow") Virdon (Ron Harper) goes back to the wrecked ship to obtain a small disc that supposedly contains vital information that can only be accessed by a computer, which they begin to search for. But after episode two, this whole idea was forgotten & abandoned, which never really made sense to me because in episode five ("The Legacy") a computer is found underground in a city of ruins.
The other thing that bothered me were all the times we see Virdon & Burke surprise attack an ape and then never bother to take his rifle from him. You'll notice it many times in the show (though sometimes they do take one now and then). But this is small potatoes...the series is wonderful.
The only sad thing is we'll never see how it would've truly ended: Would Virdon & Burke ever get back home? Would Galen come too? Or would they revolutionize the ape ruled world so that apes and humans would live as equals? There were so many ways the series could've gone. But don't let these original 14 episodes pass you by. The set may be short on extra features, but considering the price you pay for 14 episodes (think about how much Paramount charges for all their different Star Trek TV Series), you more than get your money's worth.
Planet Of The Apes The TV Series - A Cult Classic!
Also, check out Return to the Planet of the Apes - The Complete Animated Series :-)
After the success of the 'Planet of the Apes' film franchise, and after several films had brought the storyline almost full circle, it seems with hindsight only natural for the producers and studio to decide to extend the success of this series onto television. The experiment was short-lived, as the 'Planet of the Apes' television series only lasted for half a season (American standard). The shows were very popular in Britain and other nations, but without an American audience (and American advertising dollars coming into the studio), the series was destined to be one of those interesting, irritatingly half-complete storylines.
The special effects in the series were fairly well done, considering items such as the make-up technology (which won awards in the cinematic productions) and sets such as the central ape city were hold-overs from the films. Another carry-forward was Roddy McDowall, who played the leading ape character in most of the films - in the television series, he reprises a similar role, but one with a different history and motivation. The characters of Dr. Zaius, chief scientist and 'defender of the faith', and General Urko, a militant gorilla ('the only good human is a dead human') are also characters held over from the films.
The plot is same as the beginning of the film series - American astronauts somehow land on the earth of the distant future, a thousand years or so, in a post-apocalyptic world where human civilisation has been virtually destroyed, and a dominant race of apes has supplanted them as the authority in the world. Unlike the early films, the humans in this alternate world can talk, read, and live in parallel communities with the apes, although always to varying degrees under ape control and subjugation. There are tantalizing bits of archaeological information that lead the senior apes (Dr. Zaius and a few of his confidants) to the understanding that humans once ruled the world to a much greater degree than the apes, with better technology; however, one understanding central to the ape belief structure is that humankind must be kept subordinate, as the humans are the only species to kill its own kind, and practically destroyed the world in which they (and the predecessors of the apes) lived. Astronauts thus represent a grave threat to the new ape world order - they represent a technological superiority that might infect the humans with ideas of equality.
Thus, Planet of the Apes becomes a morality tale in many ways - rigid beliefs going against common sense, ideas of racial inequality built on prejudice (there is even a minor plot device of prejudice of certain kinds of apes against others - gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees often mistrust each other, uniting at times it seems only in their common disdain for humans).
The first episode of the series introduces two new astronaut characters (the most famous of whom, from the first film, was played by Charleton Heston). These two astronauts (a third died in transit, again an idea taken from the films) are Virdon and Burke, played by Ron Harper and James Naughton. After crashing, they are found by sympathetic humans who help hide them; when captured, they escape with the help of an ape named Galen (McDowall), whose common sense forces him to recognise the truth in what the astronauts are saying. Galen, Virdon and Burke then begin a life on the run, both working to stay alive and out of the clutches of Urko (Mark Lenard, perhaps best known for playing roles on Star Trek, including Spock's father, Sarek), and working to find a computer or other technological aid that might get them back home.
There are fourteen episodes in all; these include episodes in which the astronauts introduce techniques of better farming to poor rural folk, new ideas of disease control when a village is struck by malaria, and even build a hang glider to escape from a chimpanzee who wants to use an archaeological find (fragmentary bombs) with the glider for an aerial bombardment against central city. The episodes are fairly formulaic - a problem is presented that hinges upon poor understanding of human potential or previously-known scientific/technological knowledge; either a human or an ape distrusts the trio; the three eventually win over the skeptics with their abilities and basic decency, and then they must run again to avoid discovery.
It is unclear where the series was going to go, had it continued. It was cancelled in mid-season, and the final aired episode literally leaves the astronauts and Galen adrift in the sea, having escaped the authorities once again after having proven their technological superiority. Even with the formula nature of the series, the shows were worthwhile in many respects. I recall seeing this on television first when I was ten years old - to a young person, the plots illustrate their points in the way that fables work (most of the episodes are stories with a moral). When I watched the episodes again via DVD (all fourteen produced are available, including one which was never aired during the original broadcast run), they stood the test of time fairly well. Unlike the original Star Trek series, which, thanks to sets and costumes can often seem very dated, this series has a bit more timelessness to it (although the acting and production values are very much product of the 1970s).
For those who like science fiction in general, and the Planet of the Apes franchise in particular, this is a good series. It might even have some appeal for those who like a bit of fantasy or post-apocalyptic adventure of a very G-rated variety. The DVD has a few extra features - some episode commentaries, and a few theatrical trailers (for the original series of films, and for the more recent remake starring 'Marky' Mark Wahlberg). As a blast from the past (as I remember certain portions of the series, including the final drifting away, quite vividly), watching these was a great treat. - Dvd - Science Fiction - Tv Series - Post-apocalypti'
Motion-control Running Shoes
I wear these in size 9.5 EE. The toe box is very roomy and comfortable. These are well made of quality materials, and are made in USA. These are "motion control shoes" which are good for people with soft arches or flat feet and need a shoe that prevents over-pronation which can lead to ailments such as plantar fasciitus or heel pain. They are even better with arch support insoles. Terrific shoes, I will definitely buy more. New Balance Men's MR1012 Nbx Motion Control Running Shoe,Silver/Blue,10 4E
I suffer from both flat-feet and pronation issues. As the feets bones are connected to the leg, knees, back, etc., such simply problems have serious health repercussions. I often struggle with painful, swollen knees, lower back problems, all in part related to feet problems.
I have searched far and wide looking for THE running shoe that would help. This is, by far, the single best shoe I've found to help mitigate these myriad problems that start with flat-feet and pronation. Well-built and supportive, it goes a long way to easing symptoms. I've tried all of the "best" running shoes alleging help with pronation - this shoe delivers!
Background: 6'2", 235lb male @ around a 20min 5K & training 12-15 mi/week mixed among sprints & 3-6 mi runs. My right foot has no arch and left only a mild arch.
I started on the MR1011 2 yrs ago as the only shoe wide enough and squared off at the toe-box to fit. I was wearing a size 14 in some asics until a running store sized me down to a 13 2E in the 1011. The 1011 wasn't the best shoe (a little stiff until dozens of miles were put on them), but the only thing I tried providing the control I needed as well as strong enough material to withstand hundreds of miles on training.
The 1012 is a much better shoe than the 1011. My first ordered pair was a 12.5 2E, but was still too small in the toe and very stiff. I moved up to a 4E and the shoe became perfect. The shoe is very supportive, great at reducing over-pronation, has good toe-off transition (for being what it is, Franjenstein's monster's shoe) and the tight heel cup is nice. I am not looking to run marathons, but I'd use this shoe for a 10k or 1/2. For my 5K races I am still looking for a lighter, faster race shoe (but haven't found one with the same wide-toed last).
The only complaint I had was how stiff the first pair was (caused tibialis cramping), so I hope it's not manufacturing troubles, becauseI bought a second pair.
Oh, and the "N-lock" laces that come with the shoe are very good at reducing the amount of lace slip and shoe loosening.
I have very high arches and other foot issues that make standing on my feet all day at work, very painful. These shoes due to the way they are built and the support that they provide, eliminates that issue. These shoes offer the features of Stabilicore® support and N-ergy shock absorption. Which, if you are like me, sound like a new and improved sales pitch, well it probably is, but it also makes for a very comfortable shoe as well. -Warning- you will have to break these shoes in. Do not expect these to be comfortable the first day out of the box. Due to the support system, they will not be comfortable on the first day, but they will be by day 14. My only "grumble", which is why they have four stars instead of 5, I have with the shoes is that they do not come in a all leather shoe. The mesh material would probably be great for a runner, but I wear them all day long in all kinds of weather. Some puddles can not be seen until you step into it and then you have wet socks. Finally, these shoes due to the laces, don't stay tied either. Be prepared even with double knots to retie your shoes at least 3 times in a eight hour shift.
This is my second pair of these. Very comfortable and I put a lot of miles on them and they stay comfortable. Size wise, for length, they are as advertised. The fit in the toe area is wider than most which is perfect for me. Note that I am a big guy who really punishes his shoes! These can really take it.
Tried on these shoes at the New Balance store and loved them, but didn't want to pay $140. Found them here, but the shoe received was different than the store's (same number). Will have to buy shoe inserts for cushion.
First off, I am in my late 40's, 6', 210lbs, training about 15 miles per week. I started running a year before buying the 1012's and was using NB767's. The reason I was using the 767's was because I thought I needed the arch support. When I got to point where I was able to do 2 mile runs, my knees and feet started hurting. At first I thought this was normal and then began to think that maybe I needed MORE arch support. However, realizing that I was no expert, I decided to go to the New Balance store and get properly fitted. After getting an "ink" test and having my gait analyzed, the sales person quickly discovered the problem. I did not need more arch support or even the arch support provided by the 767's. What I did need was a NEUTRAL shoe built for training runs and they recommended the 1012. My first run in 1012's was like I was on new set of legs - very solid feeling and NO MORE PAIN! That was a couple of months ago. I now have well over a 100 miles on these shoes and can't say enough good things about them. I have increased my "long" run distance to 5 miles and have not had any pain. Getting fitted by someone who knows what he or she is doing is worth every penny of a price difference at the store. A huge thanks to the team at The Great Northern Mall for a job well done!
Very comfortable and very stable sneakers I bought for my husband for Christmas. He mainly uses them for walking and jogging. He suffers from plantar fascitis and a neuroma and has had very few pain flare-ups since wearing these sneakers.'
