Router Accessories - bench dog, benchdog router table

Absolutely no complaints about this table. It arrived in A1 condition, carefully packed. Assembly was simple thanks to both the clear instructions and the quality of the components. I doubt that constructing the table took much more than 15-20 minutes after reading the instructions. The fence is a solid aluminium extrusion. Being a one-piece fence simplifies setting-up when working compared to some 2-piece fences. The sub fences adjust easily making zero clearance work straightforward. The Lexan table insert supplied with the table has to be drilled and countersunk to accept whatever router you are using, which means a bit of care is required when aligning the centre of the router baseplate with the centre of the hole in the insert. Once this is done and the plate marked, the Lexan drills easily. The Lexan plate is fairly solid and shows no flexing when the router is attached (I use an ELU OF97E - now appearing as a European version of the Dewalt 621) and it works well. This router has the on/off trigger on one of the plunge handles on the opposite side of the router from the fine depth adjuster, which means it can be a bit hard to get hold of once the router is inverted in the cabinet. This can be addressed easily by putting a switch on the outside of the cabinet, if it proves a problem. At 35lbs this table is portable enough to move around the shop as and when you need it. If I want to use the table I stand it on a Workmate and secure it with four spring clamps. This has provided plenty of stability and a comfortable working height whilst requiring minimal set-up time.I looked at a lot of tables before reading about this one in a magazine review. I have seen nothing that comes close in terms of solid build and quality/robustness of fence for the price. Bench Dog 40-001 ProTop Contractor Benchtop Router Table

The Pro Top arrived in excellent condition. Nothing lose, rubbing or parts missing. Assembly was easy as long as you follow directions. The individual components are of a very good quality. I tested the assembled unit using a Porter Cable model 6931 without any installation problem. I am impressed with the results and look forward to getting a lot of use from this invaluable addition to my growing workshop. Thank you folks at Bench Dog for a great design with exceptional features.

We would like to thank all of the review contributors for taking the time to share their thoughts and experiences regarding the RT100 portable router table. Feedback in any form is immeasurably important to us. Our goal is to provide woodworkers with the best experience possible - given the variety of user's preferences and applications. We have modified our manual whenever a customer or someone internally noticed a confusing area. For instance, one writer received a manual that was misprinted. We apologize for that, and the paper loading error was corrected immediately. Our toll free number is printed in each set of directions if there is any confusion, and our manuals are available on our website if you would like to look before purchasing. Ultimately, we feel that assembly will be easier if a customer follows the photo-illustrated steps provided. The RT100 was designed to provide the same proven, award-winning features of our larger models, but also offer portability. Our goal was to create a system that was light enough to carry, yet heavy enough to remain stationary during use. We recommend clamping the table to another surface for heavy use, but the mass of the unit greatly benefits the user. The one-piece machined aluminum fence with adjustable subfences features a reversible, adjustable bit guard, which rides in our 1/4" accessory "T"-tracks, that are located on both the front and back of the fence. The removable, reversible, and replaceable subfences allow the user to enshroud the router bit profile, offering a nearly continuous plane to slide the work piece against. This helps prevent the stock from catching on the outfeed side of the fence. The fence also features a 2 1/2" dustport, which supports most shop-vacs as well as 2 1/2" - 4" evac reducers. Our miter track, the Titer Miter, is adjustable to accommodate any standard 3/4" x 3/8" miter gauge. This adjustability yields miter gauge use with no slop, or side-to-side play. Titer Miter also has a 1/4" accessory "T" track. The RT100 thereby offers "T" tracks on both the miter track and fence. The table surface is easy to level with our twelve point insert plate leveling system. We have found that most users have no difficulty in leveling their insert. For those who have difficulty, experience makes the process quick and painless. A trick to a quick set-up is to work from the corners first, then adjust the remaining eight screws to make contact with the plate. After that, quick micro adjustments finish the process. The enclosed cabinet design was incorporated to cut down on noise and dust - two issues that nobody likes. To alleviate sawdust build-up, we recommend installing either a 2 1/2" or 4" dust port to attach a shop-vac or a larger evac. We chose to leave dust evacuation within the cabinet up to the individual user, given that both the degree of importance, and placement of the dust port vary from customer to customer. The RT100 is shipped with an undrilled acrylic ProPlate - it has a 2" bit hole and hold-down holes, but it is not drilled to accommodate a router. This is left to the purchaser, and is easily accomplished through following the illustrations provided. Bench Dog offers a wide variety of pre-drilled ProPlates made either of acrylic or phenolic, each offering distinct benefits. In addition, we offer different sizes of bit holes as well, to insure the use of a variety of router bits, including raised panel bits, in a safe manner. Acrylic ProPlates are great for smaller routers (1 - 2 h.p.), and for situations in which the router will not be left in the table for extended periods of time. Acrylic ProPlates are also great for increasing the size of the router sub-base in free-hand use. Phenolic ProPlates are strong and highly flex resistant. For extended table use and more powerful, heavier routers, phenolic is the choice.. - Router Accessories - Benchdog Router Table - Woodworking - Bench Dog'

Construction Staplers - cpo bostitch, staplers

I'm just starting a roofing company and Lord knows that if there's a good value to be had, I'll go for it. Thus was my mindset when purchasing this cap stapler in a kit with the RN46-1 roofing nailer. My crew's used it to paper 1 roof and have driven roughly 2,000 caps. The only thing I have to compare it to is the Hitachi cap nailer. It's better then hand bangin', but leaves a little to be desired.

The gun is light, but it's also a little front-heavy - much like the RN46-1. It does take some getting used to. That aside, the gun seems to be reliable. There were no jams with the 2,000 caps driven, except when one of my guys forgot to remove the cord that keeps the caps in line. When that happens, you best have a pair of needle nose pliers handy.

This is definitely a time (and money) saving tool. Caps can't be driven quite as fast as with the Hitachi, but can be driven about as fast as I've seen most nailers go in the course of normal work. Driven too fast, the staples don't sink all the way down. The gun is quick and easy to load, which is a good thing, since you can only load 100 caps and staples at a time. Overall, the Bostitch and Hitachi are probably dead even for the amount of time it takes to load a similar number of caps.

At half the price of the Hitachi, the Bostitch is hard to pass up. I like the fact that you don't waste so many caps. (Read some reviews on the Hitachi and you'll know what I mean.) And I LOVE the fact that it's no big deal if the Bostitch caps get wet. If you've got extremely fast nailers, you may want to suck up the cost of the Hitachi and its caps. However, most people should find the Bostitch to be a welcome change from some of the drawbacks of the other.

4 Stars - Good Product, Good Value. One star deduction for the slightly awkward balance and limited number caps it can hold. Bostitch SB150SLBC-1 3/4-Inch to 1-1/2-Inch Cap Stapler Kit

The only reason I initially purchased this gun is because it came in a combo kit with an RN46 roof nailer(excellent value). After trying it out on both a roofing job, and Tyvek wrap, I love it. I work alone on a lot of jobs, and anyone else who has ever laid felt and housewrap while trying to swing a hammer, will definitely appreciate this tool. The only gripe I had was when I realized that I had a box of 5000 staples and a package of 1000 caps, and had to run to the store for more caps. Kinda reminded me of the hot dog and bun companies. Was also glad to see it comes with a case, being an awkward shaped tool.

I am a contractor - not a roofer.

Occasionally I have found it more cost effective to have my workers do small roof jobs rather than subcontract.

I nailed my first roof by hand - and later was fortunate to have a friend with a bostich coil, roof nailer RN145 help me on my second. The difference was so astounding that I bought a coil, roof nailer ( Porter-Cable RN175A) which I have reviewed. ( the Bostich RN145 is the better tool )

My first experience with the Bostitch SB150SLBC-1 3/4-Inch to 1-1/2-Inch Cap Stapler Kit created that same kind of epiphany. ...so good that you have to wonder why anyone would willingly drive a simplex/tar paper nail by hand.

No one wants to be on a roof one second longer than they have to.

...and when the wind is whipping - you better nail as fast as you can - or the tar paper rips and flys away

Similarly Tyvek (house wrap) presents it's own issues. Those long rolls are tough to handle when it's blowing.

Clearly a specialty item - once you try it - you won't go back to hand nailing.

The gun is well made , like all Bostich tools - if a bit tricky to use.

The trick is to be square up to the surface - which is sometimes difficult.

My suggestion is to rent one from your local Home Depot. If you plan to roof or wrap more than once - I think you'll be hooked.

Caslo

Have used this stapler on roofing felt, house wrap. and fan-fold siding insulation.Wonderful, works very well and saves a tremendous amount of time. Paid for itself on the first job.

No contractor should be without one or two of these.

I bought my stapler used to build a garage. I'm a Mechanical engineer by day, so this review is targeted at the weekend warrior who likes having the right tools for the right job.

What I like.

-It takes a good tug to tear tar paper or house wrap. The caps are not flat but slightly cupped, thus the entire outside ring presses down on the paper spreading the load away from the staple puncture points ( Stress riser ) which is the starting point for most tears.

-It is super easy to change between the Contact trigger and Sequential trigger (bostitch part # G1302700). The stepped trigger pin has a flange on one end and a groove for a small O-ring on the other. Remove the O-Ring and pull the pin. On my unit I removed the factory Contact trigger (black) and replaced it with the gray sequential trigger for safety and to solve a not fully seated staple issue ( see don't likes) - Yes it does slow things down but as a non pro, safety trumps speed. ( if you do change triggers, take a screw and fasten it into your carry case in case you need it later.)

-It comes with a carry case. A pet peeve of mine is that most other Bostitch nailers and staplers don't. Case is 15.5" wide by 17.5" tall by 6.5" deep.

-The 18 gauge staples hold really well in OSB especially compared to hammer tacker staples. ( Don't even try to pull them out, it is easier to rip off the cap then drive what is left of the staple in with a hammer. )

-Loading the caps. With 100 on a string you just drop the stack in, pull out the center core and away you go.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE

-If the gun is not resting flat on the surface or if you try to run at rapid speed "bump firing" just like using a roofing nailer the staples will end up not being flush ( sit up to 1/4" high ). I have 2 theories on why this is happening.

-First, the outer diameter of the stapling head is 1.8", so if the gun is not flush with the surface the center stapling point will be high.

-Second the cap actually sits 5 to 6mm above the work surface which places the tip of the blade and staple guide 8.5mm (~3/8") above the workpiece, My theory is that if you bump fire, the gun has some forward motion which cause the piston blade to slip off the staple. The solution is to go slow, or install the G1302700 Sequential trigger)

-While I like having a case, it is poorly designed. It seems in order to support the handle properly you need to have a package of caps. Also there is a small bottle of oil, but it sits with the cap pointing down, so if it leaks...

-The Magazine was designed to hold just one string of caps, so you have to wait until you run out or have less than 5 or 6 left before an entire stack of 100 will fit.

OTHER COMMENTS.

-This a relatively expensive tool to buy and operate compared to a hammer tacker. - A factory unit comes with 1000 staples and caps. Once gone it costs ~$30 with tax to buy another 1000 pc kitBostitch SBCAPS 1000 Caps for Cap Stapler and Nailer+Stanley Bostitch SL50351G-1M 1-Inch by 5/16-Inch 18-Gauge Staple, 1000-Piece. That's $0.03 per trigger squeeze compared to $0.002 for a hammer tacker driven staple. Even if you rent a cap stapler, rental plus a single package of staples and caps will cost more than buying a hammer tacker. So for single job projects, it's up to you and your budget.

-The caps are 2.5mm thick, which is about the same as a standard 3 tab roofing shingle. This means that if using 3 tab shingles you can see bumps where the caps are. With Dimensional shingles however the surface is irregular, so bumps are much harder to spot. -If you are wondering if this tool could be used in place of a roofing nailer the answer is no. The caps would be too close to the edge of the overlapping shingle which would prevent them from sealing. I personally recommend using Dimensional shingles if doing a a home project because they also hide any row to row placement irregularities.

- Overall I am happy. If buying for personal use, I strongly recommend ordering the Sequential trigger both for safety and placement control. - Construction Staplers - Cpo Bostitch - Cap Nailer - Staplers'

Ink Jet Printer Cartridges - canon black ink, canon

The price per print of ink jet printers is simply expensive, especially when you consider the fact that the process is probably not even close to being archival quality. Yet for most they will suffice. It is commonly believed that if you want archival you should either use silver emmulsion (what you will get if you have your prints traditionally developed by a photo lab - even a one hour lab) or dye sublimation. All that being said, this ink and the printers they go into do a very good job. I've been very impressed. I don't think there is a huge difference over the last generation, but if you want the newer printers you have to make the switch to the newer ink. Good news is that it works with the current crop of paper.

What is great about this ink cartdridge is that in the canon printers it is the cartridge mostly used for black print, while the other black cartridge is used for photo prints. This keeps your cost of printing regular text a little cheaper.

Buying on Amazon isn't much cheaper than other options, but if you are signed up for Amazon Prime, it is increadibly easy to buy them and have them delievered very quickly (two days). Canon PGI-5 BK 2-Pack Pigment Black Ink Tanks 0628B009

I've tried generic and refilled brands and I'll never do that again. I print a lot of photos and CD/DVDs and there is a huge difference in quality from the real thing and the generic. The per page price isn't that bad and I use a lot of ink. The originals go far and is worth the extra cost.

Everytime I've purchased any Canon ink cartridge, and I've purchased well over a hundred bargain brand's and Canon's, I've been extremely pleased with:

o no clogging,

o quality print,

o page count per cartridge printing,

o every cartridge printing when installed

The only negative would be their high pricing, but I guess it proves the old axiom "you get what you pay for".

After souring on Epson printers (C.R.A.P.), I love both of my Canons. They're not ink hogs (could be better though) and the heads aren't clogging up once a month. Here is a great deal for two cartridges at not much more than the usual cost of one. Color me impressed.

Why make a trip to the store? You can get these cartridges delivered to your door in a few days for less than you will find them at your local discount store. They are genuine Canon products. Don't take the chance of gumming up your printer with substitutes.

I am a student and with my Canon Pixma MP600 used 3 reams of paper before I had to replace one of these black ink cartridges. I am happy with that. Amazon has the best price on these, plus no sales tax and free shipping.

Good product.....but....I hate the fact that Canon charges so much for these tanks and has made it impossible for 3rd parties to provide OEM tanks. Do you realize how much they are charging for a gallon of ink!?! Around $1500! A good gallon of ink runs around $100. Thanks for Amazon for selling to us at a discount which is less than you can get locally.

I am thrilled with my buy. I have looked all over and found my best deal at Amazon.com much to my surprise. I have ordered ALL my colors from here and will continue to do so. Ebay offers refilled cartridges without the chip needed and say for YOU to replace them with your old ones, well why take the chance of screwing up your printer...spring for the REAL ones that are COMPLETE. Best buy....Amazon. - Canon - Ink Cartridge - Printer Ink - Canon Black Ink'

16gb Flash Drive - sandisk, flash drive

I have been a Cruzer user for the past 3 years and, yes, I like and use U3 software. I own a 4 Gb Cruzer and decided to buy the 16 Gb to get some additional space.

Even if you use U3, or like the Cruzer, the 16 Gb version is not a great buy. It works perfect and comes with additional U3 software, but it is terribly slow.

I was appalled at the slow speed of the new drive, so I made three experiments to compare it rigorously with my former 4 Gb drive:

(1) Copying a 291 Mb RAR file from the hard-drive to the Cruzer

(2) Copying a combination of 8 main folders (with multiple sub-folders and files in them) totaling 307 Mb from the hard-drive to the Cruzer

(3) Deleting both the RAR file and the 8 folder structure from the Cruzer drive.

Here are the results:

Cruzer 4 Gb: RAR - 37 s, Folders - 1:02, Delete - 13 s

Cruzer 16 Gb: RAR - 1:06 min, Folders - 1:57 min, Delete - 27 s

So.. basically twice as slow as the 4 Gb drive, which is a pain when using the drive daily. It is up to you. All I can say is that I am currently back to using the 4 Gb Cruzer and using the 16 Gb as backup. SanDisk Cruzer 16 GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ36-016G-A11

I have had this device for over a month now and I have filled it over 65% already and have had no issues with speed or compatability. Worked on all platforms. I did remove the U3 SW as I prefer to use Portable Apps. I will break down the review as such:

Compatibility: I have used it on Win XP, Win Vista, Mac OS X and Windows 2000. No issues at all.

Speed: I copied 8 GB worth of data on the very first day. With write speeds around 15+ MB/s - it performed as expected. Its not the fastest but it is adequate for 99% of users.

Durability: Well, I didn't think I could say much about this except that it has worked fine daily for the last month or so. I will add that this little device did survive a full wash and dry cycle and still is chugging along. I think that speaks volumes about its durability. I know its a SSD so it should be expected to survive such things - but you don't believe it until you see/experience it.

Asthetics: It is very compact. It has an orange light that flashes when it is in action. The USB connector retracts. Simple, nothing fancy though it does have a nice look to it - what more can you ask for?

Price: This is certainly not the cheapest 16GB drive out there but with the SanDisk name behind it, it certainly is a value buy. Another plus.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a fast, widely compatible, durable and value USB drive that has enough space for anything you would want to put on it.

So in short- Buy It!

This product works great as a storage device for the Xbox 360. It meets all of the requirements for the 360 and performs perfectly! I have half of it set aside for my Xbox and use the other half for personal files and my PS3 save data backups as well!

There are only a couple of drawbacks. The first is the very tiny spot on the back for attaching a keychain (actually, I couldn't get a keychain to fit and instead put a cell phone lanyard with a keychain on the end on it). The second drawback is that when you have the device plugged into something there is a very bright, annoying pulsing light that emanates from the top. This can be very distracting when trying to watch Netflix movies from your Xbox.

16 gig, slide out type is great, no cap to lose. But it came with a "special" U3 program on it that I had to research on google to remove. It was not hard. A remover program was on the drive. But it took me an hour to figure all this hout.

Then it took me more time to figure out how to format this drive for NTFS since this is the best way to store files larger than 4g (like video files.) A youtube vid and google showed me how. Typical of windows this is not straightforward -- it takes a bit of looking to find the right piece of Windows that can format this drive (on XP). My regular way with Disk Management did not work.

Did not come with a cord or ring that would allow you to attach it to something.

Worked fine, I stored a 13 gig file. Did not try it on a Mac.

Got this flash drive to add some more space to my 20 GB XBox 360. Works great and I moved some downloadable content and even installed games from the actual disk just like the hard drive install. Helped with Mass Effect 2 since it uses 2 disks and I almost never play games off the disk anymore.

I purchased this Cruzer, having owned both a Cruzer Titanium and a Cruzer Micro. The Titanium and Micro are a bit more expensive (a difference of several dollars), but in my opinion they're worth the premium. Both the Cruzer Titanium and the Cruzer Micro are faster than this one. The Titanium is maybe twice as fast, while the Micro has a smaller speed advantage. In any case, Windows seems to agree: when you insert a USB drive into a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7, it automatically does a test to determine whether the drive is fast enough for the ReadyBoost feature. Windows 7 determined that while the Titanium and the Micro were fast enough but this Cruzer was not.

The build quality on the Micro and especially the Titanium are definitely superior. The plastic on the Micro and the "liquid metal" finish on the Titanium are of a visibly higher quality. This Cruzer looks and feels cheap by comparison. The sliding mechanism on mine also failed less than a week into use, so that it's now quite difficult to extend the USB connector out of the retracted position. The Micro and Titanium have been fine after months, even years of use.

In terms of functionality, they're all the same, and they all come with U3 which can be removed.

Finally, though I did not factor this into the rating (since it's well outside what the manufacturer designed them for), I ended up leaving a Cruzer and a Cruzer Micro in the pocket of a pair of pants that ended up in the washer. I got them out before there was too much soaking, but they were both wet when I took them out. The cheap Cruzer worked right away but the Cruzer Micro did not. Several hours later, though, this had reversed: the cheap Cruzer no longer worked but the Cruzer Micro worked fine, and they have stayed that way. Might not mean anything, or might be some indication of relative quality.

Anyway, the bottom line is that you get what you pay for. I suggest that anyone looking at this drive consider paying a few dollars more for a Micro or Titanium. - Flash Drive - Sandisk - 16gb - Cruzer'

Home Monitors - carbon monoxide detectors, kidde

One reviewer questioned if these really work... YES they do! I had a new furnace installed recently, and the installers made a mistake. Without detectors in the house I might never have known, and my family could have suffered greatly (ie somebody could have become ill or even died!). We had had them for years and they ALWAYS read 0. When we started seeing it detect CO we knew we had a problem. Occasional low readings (such as near your kitchen on Thanksgiving if you have a gas stove) are ok, but any consistant reading is cause for real concern particularly if it is away from any known source of CO (stove, fireplace, etc).I strongly reccomend folks place a detector on each occupied level of your home. If something happens you may very well get different readings on different levels (I did). When selecting a CO detector be sure to pick an electornic one with a digital readout. They cost more, but are well worth it. The only maintenance with a unit like this one is replacing the backup battery. (BTW, a backup battery is a really good idea. Each year many folks die because they used various types of gas heating devices during power outages with inadequate ventalation.) Also, the digital readout will help track down problems envolving lower levels of CO and may give you earlier warning of a malfunctioning heating system. Finally, this particular unit has an advantage in that it can be placed directly over an outlet, or the included power cord can be used to allow higher wall mounting or placement on a table/shelf/etc. Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup and Digital Display

I also had a problem with my two detectors using up the batteries in one to two months time. But I called Kidde customer service and after I gave them the model no and assembly dates from the back of the units, they confirmed that these models were defective. Apparently there is a faulty circuit that triggers the low battery indicator prematurely. So the batteries are actually not worn down completely. The problem is with the sensor that reads the battery levels. Kidde sent me two new detectors. They are working fine so far. I will know more after a couple months. If you have this problem, call Kidde customer service and they should take care of you.

This alarm seems to be everything it claims to be. Initially plugged it in my garage until I brought it inside. The alarm went off when the garage door was closed too soon after our car was pulled out. I bought this before I read a great review on this product in Consumers Reports. This is a great product

I got this to protect my family and myself from any potential CO hazards. We have gas heat, fireplace, and stove. We had a cheaper model with those stupid cartridges. One day it went off and my wife called the police to ask what to do. Within 5 minutes, there were 3 police cars, 2 fire trucks, a rescue truck, and 20 firemen, paramedics, and police officers at the house. The neighbors all came out and the police had to direct traffic around all the vehicles parked in front of the house. It was a false alarm, the cartridge was old and became saturated with CO over a long period of time (a common problem). Worse yet, the replacement cartridge cost almost as much money as a new unit. What a waste of money. This one has a nice digital display and doesn't need a replaceable cartridge. I bought one for my parents to. Get a CO detectors. The added security is well worth the money.

I have had this detector for a few years and it has worked flawlessly. I have always had very low CO readings in my house since it is 75 years old now. Recently, my wife while in the house, was talking on her Cellular Phone, and walked within 5 feet of this detector, and it set off the detector and caused the detector to generate false readings from the radiation that the Cell Phone was producing. She actually saw the display, displaying a series of random numbers, as she was talking on her cellular phone. We also have 900MHz cordless phones in the house and these do not appear to affect the detector.

This instrument saved my life recently during a power outage. When the power went out my gas furnace was operating at maximum. This caused the electric blower to stop suddenly. The furnace was full of hot air, gas, partially combusted gas and carbon monoxide which had no place to go except into the room air. My Nighthawk CO alarm, which has a battery backup, alerted me to the potentially lethal situation and I was able to open the windows. Never go to sleep without it.

This is probably the best CO detector on the market. It will last you 7 years - the cheaper non-digital detectors will only last 2 years and will end up costing you much more money in the long run.

The best feature is the peak level dectector which will allow you to monitor carbon monixide levels as low as 11 ppm (the alarm will go off if ppms excede 50). There are some reports and studies that show that a constant exposure to low level carbon monoxide gas can cause long term health problems - so this is a handy way to check different parts of your house for this.

I am suprised at the Amazon price for this. I got this at Home Depot in West Roxbury MA for $49.00.

This is the third Kidde Nighthawk that we've owned and all have exhibited the same behavior - after a little more than a year they produce a false alarm in the dead of night. How do we know the alarms are false? First, the alarm isn't continuous. The unit sounds long enough to get us out of bed and get our hearts pounding and then stops. Second, the display reads 0 ppm CO. Third, when we check the peak level of CO it is always below the threshold level where CO would be a concern. I have tried replacing the battery even though "LB" is not displayed. The result is the same behavior and frustration a week or two later. Our first two units were the combined CO and explosive gases units which others have noted are problematic. However, we have had the same problem with this unit (CO only). Interestingly, the alarm usually sounds in the summer when we have the AC on, rather than when we are heating the house with natural gas. I'm wondering if others have had this problem. - Kidde - Carbon Monoxide - Carbon Monoxide Detectors - Carbon Monoxide Alarm'

Hardcore Tools - hardcore tools, floor nailer

This was my first attempt at installing hardwood floors. Purchasing a nail gun was a top priority. The market is limited but the few nailers out there all come with high marks. I chose this particular model based upon the few excellent reviews on this forum. The gun sits easily and quickly each time. The different types of nails/staples/ cleats receive their own praise. This Hard Core nailer is a tough find and I have not been able to find anyone that stocks it, other than Sterlingtek on Amazon. The gun has worked flawlessly, and comes in a complete package. Just tapping the gun is enough, no need to slam. Works great each time and have installed about 1000 sq feet without a single problem. Great purchase and was jumping for joy at the price, it was a lot cheaper then the ones at our local Home Depo or renting one. Pneumatic 2 in 1 hardwood floor nailer for HARDWOOD FLOORING 1-1/2-Inch to 2-Inch Hardcore Tools®

This tool is worth every penny. Not only does it do a great job, it's a great price. We put in about 850sq feet of hickory floors and never had a problem. Shipping was still quite a bit, but considering the price of the gun you are still getting a great deal. You do have to make sure you old the gun down or the staple or cleat will stick up, but that is a user issue not an issue with the gun. My husband used it on most of the floor, but it was even easy enough for me (his wife) to use. Would reccomend this for any type of user!!!

I am a wood-turner that until now has never installed hardwood floors. I had the occasion to help with an installation at a dance studio and decided from that to install a hardwood floor on an addition I had planned. While searching for a pneumatic floor nailer I found this one, and after reading the reviews decided to give it a try. I was happy I did. It performed much better than the one we used for the studio and at a portion of the cost. I would like to also mention the delivery time was great. I saved more than what it would have cost me to rent one for the job and I have it to help friends and family. What a deal. - Cleat Nailer - Hardcore Tools - Hardwood Flooring Nailer - Floor Nailer'

Kindle Accessory

After going through loads and loads of reviews on multiple kindle covers - I am finally happy and satisfied that I made the right choice.

It is definitely difficult to make a decision as there are so many options available out there and we really cant try out each and everyone before you choose the right one.

Below were the categories that I divided covers into:

1. Ones that connect to the spine of the kindle

2. Ones that have flaps on all 4 sides to hold the device

3. Sleeve type (like the envelope type)

4. This product that I am writing a review about.

Below are the pros and cons of each of these types:

#1 (Ones that connect to the spine of the kindle)

pros: Great view (we get the see the entire device with nothing on top of it.

cons: We just feel like it may not be holding on to the device for ever. Also, there were some reviews where this was resulting in freezing the device in some cases (as there are connections to the battery of the device for the light in some covers)

#2 (Ones that have flaps on all 4 sides to hold the device)

pros: my opinion, none

cons: I just felt it ugly design that some 4 flaps hold on to the corners of the device. The below flaps also cover part of the buttons - just didnt like it.

#3 (Sleeve type)

pros: Good to use it as a carry case if thats the only purpose of it.

cons: No cover when using the device.

#4 (This product)

pros: Holds the device firmly without some weird looking flaps, the cuts are made right so that the screen, keyboard and connectors are free to use. And great price!

cons: The material is synthetic leather - looks good but not "leather" (which didnt matter to me as it was at a great price)

So, to summarize, I felt the cover was the perfect purposeful product for the kindle at a very good price.

I just couldnt convince myself to pay $35 (Other covers) or more when the reader itself was $139

Hope this review helps.

[Update - March 29, 2011]

Am still very happy with the product - no issues what so ever.

I did drop the kindle (with cover ofcourse) more than couple of times - no damages. CE Compass Cover Case for Kindle 3 (3rd Third Generation 6" Kindle Wi-Fi + 3G) Black

I purchased this cover after going to several Best Buy stores and coming up empty. (Best Buy sells the Kindle and other eReaders. They also offer covers in the store.) I even tried to purchase a cover that was supposed to be for the Kindle 3. I went to my vehicle to see if it would hold my Kindle in place if the case accidentally fell out of my purse, it did not. I left my vehicle and returned the $40 case for a full refund.

Then I returned home and began searching Amazon for a cover. This cover seemed perfect. Now that I have received it, it is great because the Kindle slides in from top of the case. It provides access to the page keys, the USB port, and the power button. The left side of the case is firm, but lightly padded to provide some protection for the screen. It is a perfect case for tossing my Kindle into my purse. Wish it came in different colors, like RED! Oh well, other than that it is GREAT!!!

I bought this case from the same seller on ebay...love this case! It is light in weight, easy to hold, very protective, and even has the edging on the bottom, which most companies excluded on the K3 version for some reason. I've thrown it in the car, in my purse and have dropped it a few times, and my kindle is still perfect. The seller is great to deal with and ships fast. Would love more colors to choose from.

For the price, it is an excellent cover. It fits the K3 exactly and will not let it fall out, even through the open flap at the top. But that's how you get the kindle in anyway.

Pros:

1) Holds the K3 perfectly (as mentioned above)

2) The price was decent

3) Makes me feel as if I am holding a 'real' book open

4) I never have to touch my K3. I am only touching the buttons to turn the page & to type.

5) Does not obstruct the function of the kindle. I can still plug it into my computer, plug in my head phones, have it read out loud, etc. without it being muffled by the case or without removing it from the case.

Cons:

1) It is thin leather and I would not feel comfortable throwing it around in a bag with my keys and wallet, but that's just me.

2)The magnet is not terribly strong, but I have a feeling that it if it were, it might interfere with the K3's internal wiring & battery as other faulty cases have.

The pros outweigh the cons for me. I am happy with my new case for my K3.

The perfect case for the Kindle, IMO. Sleek and elegant-looking, it looks like it'd cost three or four times more than what it does, fits the Kindle snugly, and leaves all of the Kindle's buttons accessible. My main concern before purchasing was that the Kindle might slide out of the top-loading opening, but it's such an exact fit that even with some jostling and shaking, it's in there to stay. The back speakers are of course covered up, but it doesn't seem to impede the sound one bit. Totally recommended, and what great value--why would anyone pay for the ridiculously expensive proprietary Kindle case when you can get this?!

the case fits the K3 perfectly. basically you will not touch your K3, only the case. The thing I dont like about this is the cover is not hard enough. I dont feel safe putting this in my backpack. Other than that, its a good case if you just carry this around the house.

I've been using this cover for a couple days now and overall, I'm pleased. There were a couple very small defects; a small glue bump and one tiny scratch in the leather which reduced my rating one star. Compared to the prices for many of the other cases, this one is very good for the price you're paying. The magnetic clasp isn't the strongest magnet on the planet, but that also means there's no sharp metal to potentially scratch my beautiful Kindle. The inside flap is a little tight but I'm sure it'll give a bit more once being broken in. As for the basic functionality, the screen, all buttons and connections are easily accessible and my Kindle fits in very snug and it only adds a tiny bit of weight to my Kindle (in fact, I can barely tell). The front cover folds back very easily for one-handed reading. Overall, I'm very pleased.'

Saws - band saw, saws

First, allow me to say that, in my opinion, this is by far the best value band saw in its class. Where else could you find a machine with these specifications and (most of) Delta's reputation for quality and service? After working out some of this new model's wrinkles, you can own a very versatile saw with a large 16" table, a quick tension release, and a good amount of power. But, for your savings, be prepared to do a little fussing to get everything just right with this saw.Let me tell you about my experiences, and most importantly Delta's excellent response to some picky little problems I encountered. I can tell you that I am a very fussy guy and know quality when I encounter it, and will settle for nothing less than "how things should be." When I discovered this saw was totally manufactured in China, I decided I would hold Delta's feet to the fire and demand the same level of quality found in their U.S. made saws, and I think I'm close. I have been in the machine tool business for 28 years, selling metal working machines, and I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. This saw is not bad and can be made good, very good with your effort and persistence. If you are not one to take on such challenges, you can purchase less saw for equal money, or plan to pay quite a bit more for something with equal specifications and fewer rough edges; Perhaps as much as $300-$400 more. For me, woodworking is a hobby and I would like to put that much money elsewhere. The Good:In most ways this is a typical Delta cabinet band saw. The 1 H.P. motor has sufficient power, the unit is beefy and most Delta parts and accessories are interchangeable. The cabinet doors are on hinges, and can be easily opened; quite convenient. The table is larger than their other 14" band saws. The blade tension release lever is something I would never want to live without again, never. It's so convenient and would normally cost an additional $150 or so. The saw is a two-speed unit. The height adjustment is very accurate and doesn't require readjustment of the guides when the elevation is changed. The Bad:The lower blade support assembly is sloppy because the bar it connects to is a poorly, undersized and pretzel-shaped piece of sheared hot rolled steel. The bottom, hinged door on mine was tight and would bind up, sometimes even popping open on its own. It's hard (impossible in my case) to perfectly align the motor with the pulley on the saw, but with some fussing around, you can get it close enough. The cast iron parts are not quite as refined as the American units, but acceptable. The height adjuster is a bit stiff to move up and down, but I presume Delta wants it to be this way so it won't fall down and pinch my delicate fingers. I noticed it has a rubber surface inside its bore for better grip. With time it will probably work a little easier. Silicon lubricant might also probably help. The saw is not quite as vibration-free as it could be, and Delta is working on this with me, sending me some new pulleys and an upper band wheel. I think the top band wheel is perhaps a bit out of round or out of balance. When I run the saw without a blade, it's quite smooth. I am confident I can resolve the very slight vibration I am experiencing. Also, to be fair to Delta, my saw is on a mobile stand, not the best base to minimize vibration, and I do have the height extension block installed, too. Some comments about Delta's excellent service:When I pointed out the problem with the lower band cover's hinge, Delta overnighted a new cover. It was there the very next day. When I advised them of the sloppy lower blade guide assembly, they got with their engineering group to confirm my observation, and machined a high precision part that now works like a dream. I trust if you call them they will have this part (now) in stock. The American part won't work only because the holes are spaced differently, but the bar is the same dimensionally. It's a little tricky to install, but only about a 20-minute job.As I said, I am confident I will be able to resolve the slight vibration problem I am experiencing. It's not really enough to worry about, but like I said, I will hold them to my standards. Conclusion:If you don't mind purchasing a Chinese built machine from an American company, and you are willing to work out or accept some of the rough edges, go for it. It's a great value, all things considered. The only thing I can imagine that may be a future problem is the Chinese built motor. It looks good, but who knows. Everything else should last as long as any other Delta 14" band saw. Hope this is a helpful review. DELTA 28-206 Professional 14-Inch 1-Horsepower Woodworking Band Saw, 120-Volt 1-Phase

Fortunately for me, I decided to purchase the 28-206 based on some actual use, otherwise some of the negative reviews here would have put me off. After all, a band saw is one of the most important tools one the powered side of the workshop, and a poor performing band saw is a disaster. Surprisingly, none of the flaws mentioned here have surfaces, although I have seen problems with the 206's lighter brother, the 28-276. Out of the box and assembled, even before tuning it, the 206 ran smoothly, with no unexpected vibration.

One of the reasons I bought the saw was the closeness of the lower bearing set to the work surface. This, coupled with and aftermarket ball bearing set (not the Carter set) means the blade runs vertically, under use, with almost no deflection - perfect for resawing and making veneer. Even when I am attempting resawing with a stock 1/4" blade. When I give in and put in the 6" extension (another good reason to buy this saw), I will probably switch to the carter bearings. But I'm very happy with what I have now.

Adjustment is quite easy, and necessary as well. Never expect to be able to put on a blade and not have to reset everything. The setting controls are easy to get to and very straightforward, so there is no excuse to have a blade out of adjustment. Which brings on safety lecture number one - a band saw is probably the most dangerous stationary tool in the shop. One where your hands spend a lot of time very close to a powerful, high-speed cutting edge. Most of the time the only thing between that blade and your fingers is your brain - keep it engaged.

The heavier version of this saw is the X5, which is about $300 more, and manufactured in the US. It is a better saw, although I wouldn't say it was 70% better. If you really are a perfectionist you may want to look at it. For me though, some compromises are necessary, and the 28-206 suits all of my needs. - Band Saw - Saws'
