Notebook Power Adapters - ac adapters, notebook power adapters

i bought this "dell" charging cord for my wife for Christmas of 08. it worked fine at first but noticed it got pretty hot while charging but thought it was normal. Last night, 1/16/09 my wife asked me if i smelled burning plastic. after looking for the source i found that the cord on the outlet side had melted next to the transformer of the charger. This also left the copper cable inside the cord DANGEROUSLY exposed. It also melted onto my carpet leaving plastic fused in the carpet fibers! this seller is fraudulant and should be suspended from selling on amazon. the description is false also. the charger was discripted as a "genuine dell charger" and when i took it out of the box it didnt even have one of those FAKE dell stickers on it. It was not labled at all which SHOULD have thrown a red flag for me but i chose to ignore it. also the transformer was VERY light weight which should have told me something too. REAL dell charger transformers have some noticable weight to them. Im just glad we could this little problem before it started a fire in my house and Id have to be doing a LOT more about this then informing Amazon and wrighting this review. I have a 1 1/2 year old son and if he would have gotten hurt from this LESS THAN PROO QUALITY product someone whould have been in LOTS of trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*****UPDATE*****after a threating email and bad review i was contacted by customer service and informed i was shipped the wrong charger. A new charger was shipped out to me right away and i just got it this friday. upon inspection i am happy to say that this is the real deal. i am sceptical if it was actualy a mistake being sent the "wrong" thing or the sellers "cheap" version of what i should have got in the first place hoping i wouldnt notice. all-in-all i have a neutral opinion of the seller at this moment and MAY consider doing future business... AC Power Adapter Replacement PA-10 for Dell Inspiron 300m, 600m, 700m, 6400, 8500, LATITUDE D400, D500, D600, X300, 19.5 Volts 4.62 Amps 90 Watts

After my Dell AC adapter broke on my Inspirion 6400, I first bought a universal adapter from a major electronics retailer. Although, the universal adapter would power my notebook, it would not recharge the battery. After doing some research on the internet, I found that many aftermarket adapters will not charge the Dell's notebook battery. The good news is that this adapter effectively powers the notebook and recharges the battery. It's a lot cheaper then Dell's OEM adapter and it has worked fine for me.

I bought this adapter about two months ago. Immediately, I noticed that the charge was not consistent and every 30 seconds or so, it would go between charging and not charging. Because of this, the battery rarely got charged above 10%. I contacted to company about the problem and they offered to replace it for me. After sending in the old adapter (at my expense) they sent me a new one with the exact same problems. I know it has nothing to do with my computer because I have another Dell manufactured adapter that works 100% of the time. AC Adapters should work 100% of the time and since this doesn't, I'm giving the product 1 star.

Updated: I'm surprised it took me this long to figure out but the problem is that the adapter cord doesn't fit snuggly in the power input. It will charge when it is situated perfectly but the smallest movement will make it fall out of place. Again, the dell adapter doesn't have this problem so my rating will not change.

I'll make this brief. I have 2 dell laptops that use this adapter. After having problems with my original adapters (I have 5 kids....) I decided to order this "replacement adapter" because it was a good price. I purchased 3 of them and I am on my last one right now. They don't push out 90 Watts as promised and they have killed both batteries on my laptops because they don't send consistent power to your computer. I am purchasing 3 new DELL 90 watt ac adapters and will never purchase an after-market replacement ever again.

This charger was $30 when I bought it in February, so I had moderate hopes. It stopped working in less than a month. Do not buy. I see that it is $3, so it is probably safe from being bought by anybody but an idiot.

I received this laptop power adapter in a timely manner from the seller, Westronics. It worked just fine when we got it (except the cord was a little short), but it completely died after three months. I wrote the seller about it and they never replied. Sadly, by then, it was too late to rate them down on the order. Perhaps the price was too good to last, but I'd rather they charge more and provide a product that lasts at least a year. It is difficult to know which product to order with so many adapter options.

If I could give this zero stars I would.

The adapter worked for ~1 week, then my computer stopped recognizing it, so my battery wouldn't charge (this is caused by a loose adapter connection where the plug inserts into the computer; sometimes wiggling it helps, but any disturbance can make it malfunction). Like the author of one of the previous comments,I have a dell-manufactured adapter that works fine all the time. This replacement adapter is definitely not worth buying. - Dell Inspiron - Notebook Power Adapters - Laptop - Ac Adapters'

Power Tools - power tools, sander

Over the years I have come to expect only a quality product from Makita. This sander is no exception. Though not necessary, the rubber on the body and top does give a good grip, especially with fine sawdust on your hands. The 3amp motor has plenty of power and the pad continues to turn even under pressure (unlike the milwaukee). Lastly, the vibration level is very low which makes it nice if you are sanding a large piece or have to use the sander for a long period of time.

I was so pleased with this sander, I bought a second one and use it for fine grit sanding. Makita BO5030K 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander

I've had a cheap Ryobi sander for years now. It works fine, but it's poorly balanced and isn't suitable for creating a nice final smooth finish. I bought this Makita based on owning a plethora of other Makita tools that I've been very happy with. It sands fine, but when you take it off the work-piece, it starts spinning so fast that you can't put it back down without creating a gouge. It spins so fast that it's dangerous; when I first used it I tried to slow it down by tapping it against my leg and it ripped through my pants and cut me. No other sander I've used spins this fast. Some models don't even spin until pressure is applied to the pad. To me, this is a total deal breaker. It's called pad dampening, and is a basic feature of these sanders. Apparently the Makita doesn't have this feature which to me makes it completely unusable. If you're doing something where you never need to pick up the sander, then this is fine for you, but when you're sanding a large quantity of items, and need to pause for more than 2 seconds between pieces, forget about it.

I have used this ROS to sand a door, cabinets, and patio furniture, and it worked great. I have absolutely no complaints about this product. The sander was comfortable to handle and easy to control with plenty of power for my projects. It is still too early to comment on its long term durability.

This sander replaced a 5010 Makita sander that still works it is just old. The new sander has a little more power behind it and is a little heavier. I used it on a set of cabinets I built and it work great!

This sander is much more robust than the Black and Decker orbital sander it replaced. It is very easy to use and I have found that the built in vacuum works very well. The case is useful for transporting and storing.

This sander is not a very good value: weird balance, too high a center of gravity, dust bag outlet clogs, Makita could have done better, will return and buy Milwaukee, I am a professional woodworker and finisher.

This sander worked like a dream for a weeks worth of sanding (painted Door slabs) 5 days of about 4hours sanding each...

This sander melted a gasket just behind the sanding pad causing the tool then to have an uncontrollable off balance behaviour, causing gouging in the sanded work that then had to be re sanded out...

I took this gasket out and the behaviour improved however when ever you lifted the sander off the work and placed it back down again it would go off balance again... which is unacceptable for any kind of sanding work at all.

Were as at first this sander really felt good in my hand and behaved well (really better than my old Dewalts and Riobis... if it's only going to last a week, however, it is worthless to anyone who has customers to serve and can't wait to send tools back to the factory to have them fixed.

A tool that is not ready to go strait out of the box is simply not an option to anyone who has to depend on their tools.

I am disappointed in makita, in that, they have decided to let something like this out the door.

perhaps they have decided that Amazon is a good place to dump crap on the market.

Ah well... nice plastic box...

It should be for the $60 I paid for it - Power Tools - Random-orbit Sanders - Sander - Makita'

Blackjack Accessories - blackjack accessories, leather

I bought this case because the Samsung phone is quite a bit larger than my last phone, and I needed a convenient way to carry it around without it being in the way. I am always sitting things down and forgetting them - I never can find the TV remote.

I saw this case and thought what have I got to lose? Even with shipping it came in under $10.00. I can say that I was just amazed at how nice the case was when I got it!! It does look professional, and I like the magnetic closure much more than the velcro closures.

The fit is snug, but not overly so. I also purchased a clear plastic snap on case for my Blackjack II, and it still fits in the leather case, although it is quite snug now.

The belt loop and belt clip are a first for me, but the loops are thin enough that they aren't in the way if you only use the clip. If you want to use the loops, the clip is definitely in the way, necessitating using the loops and the clip. The loops don't inspire a great amount of confidence by themselves - so I just use the clip.

AT&T wanted to charge me $29.00 + tax for a leather case that looked like cr@p, so this was a steal compared to it. In fact this case looks like it should be around $50.00 if AT&T sold it.

In short - I couldn't be happier with the case. Yes, you would be wise to lock the keypad, but this is a great deal for the price. Looks fantastic!! Horizontal Leather Pouch For Brand Samsung BlackJack i607 or BlackJack 2 i617 Cell Phone Case Cover with Belt Clip Magnetic Closing

At first it's a bit difficult to get the phone out in time to answer it but as the pouch breaks in it becomes much easier.

You need to be aware of which way you store the phone in the pouch or you're going to be resetting your volume a lot. The gap on the bottom allows you to push the phone out with a finger, but if the volume button is facing down you'll hit that almost every time.

The belt loops are great. No more dropping the phone because the clip slipped off the belt while working...

Magnetic closure is great with one HUGE gotcha... Don't place the pouch on a video tape or cassette, results may vary.

Here's a review I did for exactly the same case: I've had this for exactly 1 year for my samsung blackjack 2 and it's not real leather. Started to have a couple of tears where the flap folds and i can clearly see that it's not leather. Also the seams where the opening is at the bottom have come apart and also reveal synthetic materials. It's starting to look old, so I'm looking for a real leather one. The hole doesn't line up for my phone. The belt clip seams have also come apart and metal part is exposed, so I patched it up with some black duct tape and works ok now.

Pros: Arrived way ahead of time. Nice leather material, magnetic closing, provision for belt holster and clip.

Cons: Very snug fit. May accidentally activate buttons of my Samsung i617. Need to lock keypad for this.

Average customer experience. Functional.

I've been looking for a good inexpensive leather case to protect the Samsung Black Jack II phone and this fits the bill. Saw the previous feedback with the issue with the belt loop but decided to take a chance. I feed my belt under the belt loops and the hook. I have had the case for a few weeks now but have not had any problem with the belt loop/case in general.

I've had the loop stress tested somewhat but, so far no problem with the belt loop or the case.

- Notebook backpack sitting on top of it.

- motorcycle leather jacket and belt from leather chaps pulling on it

The Phone fit snugly into the case. With the phone in the case, I have accidently drop it a few times from abut 4 foot high but not a scratch on the phone or the case.

Only issues I have is that the Black Jack's speaker is blocked. So, it makes it a bit difficult to hear the phone ring. But, I put the phone in vibrate mode so no big deal.

A few of my co-workers saw the case and ordering them as well.

I bought this case so I can carry my phone while jogging. It fits the Blackjack snuggly and the latch is strong. The belt clip is also strong and I have no worries about losing this phone on the trail. It is a little difficult to retrieve the phone quicky if you get a call so it might not be useful as an every day phone case. - Blackjack Accessories - Samsung - Case - Leather'

Great Item - calvin, saw blade

These 6 DeWalt reciprocating wood cutting saw blades are the perfect touch to your saws wood cutting needs. I was very impressed with the quality that was put into this blade. In most cases I was using two blades to cut out a small hole in a wall with my sears blades but these blades hold up better and last longer. Best of all the price is right. You won't go wrong with these blades. DEWALT DW4856 6-Piece Metal/Woodcutting Reciprocating Saw Blade Set

Recently removed a 275 gal. fuel oil tank from basement, involved sawing off 2 and 3 inch pipes. NO-Name blade died very soon, Milwaukee blade not much better, DeWalt blade made the cuts like NOW!, and still going strong, re-cut the pipe stubs, same blade. Price wise, one can probably find individual blades for a specific purpose locally. But this 6 pc item is not a bad deal.

Just a warning. I recieved my Dewalt Blades today. The mail lady went to hand me the box, and a blade dropped right out of the box and landed tip down onto my deck, and stuck. So my advice for Amazon is to package any sharp object differently. When I opened the box, the entire blade set was underneath the bottom flap of the box. It was a good thing more blades didnt come out or get lost for that matter, and most importantly that when the one did come out, no one got hurt.

I bought these blades along with the 12 amp DeWalt saw. All the blades performed well, except I easily bent the metal cutting blade. It may have been me not controlling the saw, but I felt the blade was a bit too flimsy. The others worked well with no problems. Also, the blades are all 6" and it would have been nice to include a longer wood blade for yard work. In spite of issues, I recommend this set for price and quality. - Great Item - Saw Blade - Sawzall Blades - Calvin'

Laptop Power Adapters - charger, dell inspiron

I ordered this along with a replacement battery for my daughter's E1505 at college. I was really hoping that the adapter and battery were going to do the trick since I had already replaced the battery on the laptop once before from Dell for three times the price.

Unfortunately, this new battery and adapter always seemed to be extremely hot to the touch. Last weekend, my daughter noticed that the plastic sleeve on the power cord running from the adapter was bubbling. When she moved the cord, the wires came through the sleeve and shorted out in a fountain of sparks.

As much as I hate to go back to Dell and pay excessive prices for a product that will last perhaps a year, I would rather do that than risk a fire or injury. NEW! AC Adapter for Dell Inspiron 1501 600M 8600 Laptop

The adapter was purchased to replace an original that came with a Dell Inspiron 1501 that died after about two years. Though inexpensive, this new one works just fine. Have had it for only three weeks. I thought that it felt a little hotter than I had expected. I checked it with a good thermometer, and it was 120 degrees. I checked an original adapter on a three year old Toshiba laptop, and it's temperature was 102 degrees. I don't have any reason to believe that the temp. of the new one is a problem.

NEW Laptop/Notebook AC Adapter Power Supply Cord for Dell Inspiron 1420 1501 1520 1521 1525 6000 6400 300M 500M 505M 600M 640M 700M 710M E1405 E1505

I am very happy with the Adapter my computer now charges.

This is my second aftermarket charger for my Dell Inspiron. It works as it should - it powers the laptop and charges the battery. Only problem is that when I turn on my radio the reception is being mangled by this adapter. Either there is not the proper shielding in the case as my other two chargers never did this or I simply received a defective unit. Either way, I'll be looking elsewhere for a replacement as I like to listen to the radio when I'm working on the computer....those who do the same should be advised that this might be a problem.

I purchased this product to replace my original dell charger that stopped working, and a little after 30 days (39 to be exact) it also stopped working. The laptop does not recognize it as being plugged in and will NOT charge at all. Terrible product I recommend you spend a little more money and go with a different seller, or make sure the one you purchase has a warranty!!!

I am very disappointed with this product. The adaptor burnt out last night and does not work anymore. I ordered the product on October 16th and it burnt out on November 17th. Not even a full month and the product does not work. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

This is a two-piece cable and adapter. I ordered a replacement because the Laptop side of the connector was damaged.

What's odd is the Wall outlet plug side of this unit when used will not charge the battery. It will only run on A/C power and a message is displayed, "plugged in, not charging."

When I used the old plug side from the original Dell charger, it charges the battery and works just fine. So I guess this unit as a is only an a/c adapter not a charger? - Dell Inspiron - Charger - Ac Adapter - Dell Replacement Ac Adapter'

Plantronics 220 - accessories, plantronics

I recently purchase this bluetooth for 12 bucks from Amazon. It's a great price for a basic bluetooth. I personally do not care all the fancy features that higher priced models have, I'm sure they are nice and may come in handy from time to time but I rather save the 60 dollars. It's very easy to do the initial set-up and to operate it. Uses one button for all the funtions, such as answering a call, redialing last number, voice dialing (only if your phone has that feature)or rejecting a call and has separate volume buttons. It's very clear at both ends, nobody has complained of not being able to hear me clearly. The bluetooth itself is very nice looking, small, light and it fit my ear perfectly. I would have givin this bluetooth 5 stars if it wasn't for the packaging, I was not aware the Bulk Packaging meant Amazon would put the headset in a sandwich bag with a bad photo copy of the instructions which were barely readable almost if I had gotten from a Craker Jack's box. But I guess if it saves you a couple bucks. I was so impressed with the headset that a bought 2 more pieces but from Newegg price was better and the packaging was more proffesional, it had a way better version of instructions. Plantronics Explorer 220 Bluetooth Headset [Bulk Packaging]

The range of this bluetooth is very poor. You can't walk more than 3ft away from it before it starts to sound flaky. The headset is comfortable and battery life is really good. Other problem I had was that when I use it while driving, people say that it sounds like i'm driving with the windows down when I'm actually not. I wouldn't recommend this product because of the sound clarity and range. $10-$20 more will be worth it.

This is a very good unit. Although, after 5 feet the bluetooth looses signal with the phone. And the earpiece is not FLEXABLE, causing severe pain after about an hour of wear. If the ear peice was re vamped, and the range extended it would be the perfect bluetooth!

(BAD) This bluetooth piece, in all respects, is huge and there is no way to adjust it to make it smaller. You would need to have ears the size of a full grown man for it to fit securely. I can loosely drape it on my ear, but it falls off no matter what I do.

(BAD) Sound quality is terrible. It sounds better on my cell phone than it does on this bluetooth. There is static, the caller sounds distant, and the sound is overall tinny.

(BAD) The microphone quality is just as bad as the sound, the callers claim that I sound very tinny and distant.

(FAIR) The range isn't terrible, but because the sound quality is already very poor you wouldn't want to get too far out of range or you'll not be able to hear the caller well at all.

(GOOD) It pairs well with any phone, just remember to hold the button for it to go into "pairing mode" which is indicated by alternating flashing blue and red lights.

This is the most disappointing earpiece I have ever tested- I will NOT be keeping it.

I trust the Plantronics brand, but this product is definitely not living up to their usual standards.

I don't own any other Bluetooth headsets. This has been the only one I'va had for about 3 years running and it is as good as the first day I bought it. Its very ergonomic and comfortable to wear. Very simple to handle and the rounded edges make it less extravagant or garish as some other newer models that i've seen. Sound quality is perfect and has a great range. Of course, if you have to go through more than 2 or three walls in your home it degrades but that's to be expected from any wireless device, especially bluetooth.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the talk time. It has lasted for more than 2 or 3 hours of straight talking and it definitely can last about 3 days on pure standby. I don't think I can say anything more positive about the product without sounding like a corporate endorsement but it is a truly great product and the price is perfect. I originally bought mine in walmart for about $30 plus dollars and I don't hesitate to recommend it to people that want to get their first and only wireless device.

i bought this for my ps3 and i love it! it arrived a day early than thought. it came in a box and it was wrapped in plastic on the inside. it came with a charger also. it fits my ear and my girlfriends ear perfectly and is very comfortable. i would really recomend this to anyone looking for a bluetooth headset for a great price. the quality is wonderful. it looks brand new and very slick. looks like it would cost more than $11. its better than spending the $40 plus dollars on the sony ones. i would buy this again. very happy with my outcome.

So I bought this head set for my husband's PlayStation 3. We didn't want to spend the extra money on a name brand headset. We simply wanted something easy to use and affordable. That's exactly what we got. I bought this item over a year ago. It still works perfect minus the usual cosmetic wear which will soon have us buying another of the same type. I love and highly recommend this product. Affordable, easy to use, and very durable! - Plantronics - Bluetooth Headset - Accessories - Handsfree'

Compact Flash Card - cf card, photography

So far I've been happy with the performance of this Sandisk product. I've used Sandisk memory for some time now in my Canon SLRs and have never had any trouble with any of their cards. They do cost more but I feel it's worth it to have dependable CF cards. As far as performance, the Extreme cards are excellent. Until the buffer fills, my Canon 7D shoots about the same number of burst shots with the Extreme (60 MB/sec) as with my older Extreme III (about 20 RAW (18 MP) images at 8+ fps). However, after the buffer fills, there's a huge difference between the two cards. With the Extreme III, the camera chokes very quickly and takes much longer to finish writing the data. With the Extreme, I can continue shooting about 2 fps for several seconds. Sandisk 8GB Extreme CF memory card - UDMA 60MB/s 400x (SDCFX-008G-A61, Retail Package)

This card is everything I was looking for. Allows for continuous shooting, downloads fast, almost impossible to completely fill the card in one setting in that one gets tired of shooting before the card is full. 60MB per second is FAST.

This is a very fast compact flash card available at a great price that I use in my Canon 50D digital SLR camera. I do a lot of digital picture shooting in RAW file format that has the camera dealing with very large file sizes, and the ScanDisk Extreme 60MB/s card is able to write those large files to the card with very impressive speed, even when taking several shots in succession. And the 8GB storage capacity is adequate for essentially all my digital camera needs.

I purchased this card for use with a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR and compared to the Extreme 3 cards that I owned prior to this, the increase in speed is noticeable. I wasn't really able to notice any difference in-camera (I don't usually shoot at high frame rates) and recording 1080p video at 30fps works fine on both cards, but I did notice an increase in transfer speeds with my UDMA enabled USB2 card reader. I can realistically transfer 1.5GB of files in about 40 seconds (transferring to a 7200RMP firewire 800 hard drive on my Mac) To transfer those same files from the Extreme III card, it takes about 53 seconds. Definitely not 2x as fast, but technically this card costs less than the Extreme III! So, for the money, I am satisfied. Highly recommended.

(posted this review on both product pages for this card, for some reason Amazon has them listed in two places)

I have been using Sandisks for years and after buying a new Canon 5D Mark II with its 21MB files, I needed more capacity than my current 4GB cards would hold so I have started by buying this 8GB card which will get me about 300 images (depending on ISO, etc..). I will ad a couple more and probably a 16GB card as well. I had a couple of problems with Lexars back a few years ago and switched to Sandisk and the only card I have had a problem with was due to my own mistake by forgetting to turn the camera power off when inserting the card which caused it to short out. I have been very happy with the many Sandisk CF cards I have owned over the years and they are all still working fine. I also highly recommend the Sandisk Firewire CF Card Reader - it is so much faster than the USB 2.0 card readers :)Sandisk Extreme FireWire Reader

I am shooting a Canon 7D which can deliver up to 8 fps. You will still fill up the camera buffer as always but this card really unloads the buffer very quickly. It is a big improvement over the SanDisk Extreme III that I normally use and as a avid sports shooter it really helps. Little to no waiting for the buffer to empty when shooting jpeg. The camers is rated at 15 RAW files in burst mode and normally I would need to wait 5 or 6 seconds after filling the buffer before I could shoot again (these flies are about 25 meg in size). With this card I ger about 19 exposures before it stops but is ready to go again with an empty buffer in about 2 seconds. This card is expensive but I have always had a positive experience with Sandisk products. Also, maybe the extra cost doesn't make sense for you if you don't shoot action/sports events and speed is not a factor.

I am very pleased with this purchase.

I feel that this is the best combination of size and recording speed for a memory card. I'm usually shooting RAW and the 60 MB/s speed comes in pretty handy when capturing 10+ MB files in continuous shooting mode. I also have the Sandisk 16GB version, but it's not safe to put all your eggs in one basket. Which is not a knock on the stellar built of these cards, just a personal preference.

I have only had the card for a month or so, but so far the card has been great. The card is much faster than my previous cards, allowing me to take more photos and the motordrive does not have to wait for the card to catch up. I use this card in my Nikon D3. Download is fast too. Nothing but good things to say about this card. Previously I used 4GB SanDisk Extreme IV cards and these are much faster. Well worth the money. - Cf Card - 8gb - Photography - Camera Storage'

Braun shaver

I have had this model Braun shaver for about 3-4 years. The shaver itself if awesome. This is the 3rd replacement foil and cutter I have bought since buying the shaver. I am not sure what Braun has changed about the replacements but it seems this replacement does not cut quite as well and seems to catch on my face causing razor burn more than the last 2 replacements I have bought.

This one does look a little different than the previous one, I need to see if they offer more than one style replacement. Braun 8000FC Activator Combi-Pack Foil and Cutterblock Replacement

Despite the multiple reminders about replacing foil and cutters every 18 months, this last cycle I squeezed 24 months out of my 8595 before changing. I finally had to accept that the shaver just wasn't inclined to cut wiskers any more. Buying from the Amazon Marketplace saved about 25% over local retail, and the product as listed was the correct replacement. Once again, I now experience a great Activator / 360 Complete shave!

I was a lil worried about a general 8000 label for my specific shaver, but it all fit fine, and it shaves very well (even with a couple days of growth). I have a year old Activator and it still shaves great! No pulling hairs, nice quick shave! Go for it!'

Business Software - business software, accounting

I've been using various versions of this software since 1999 and generally upgrade every 2 or 3 years. I hadn't planned an upgrade but did so to better accommodate an upgrade from XP Win 7 (Win 7 is worth the trouble and expense!) When the disk arrived, it was cracked (shipping problem, not Peachtree.) I had next to no trouble getting them to give me a link to a download so I could use the product without waiting for a new disk. I had no trouble with the download and no problem moving files from Peachtree Complete 2008. I moved four companies and everything works very well. The employees (two) were easy to understand and registration was a snap. A MAJOR benefit to me is being able to keep multiple companies open at the same time. As usual, the best price and service were at Amazon. This review sounds like it was written by an employee but it wasn't--it's just a bullet-proof product that performs very well and performs flawlessly with Win 7--worth the price. Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting 2011 [OLD VERSION]

I switched from Quickbooks 2008 to Peachtree Complete 2011. The transfer of data from QB to Peachtree was rather painless. Don't do what I did and make your first active period Jan 2010 for example. Just put the current period that you are working on or don't switch mid-year like I did. You do have to go back and reconcile all accounts which is rather annoying and a huge waste of time, but it wasn't that bad. The treatment of credit cards is really strange and I like QB's approach much better. In short, QB you enter transactions, reconcile with the statement and put it to AP ledger to pay. Peachtree treats it much differently and while perhaps you can do what I just stated, it isn't anywhere near as easy. I haven't imported transactions from online, but of course there is no Peachtree option on the online accounts. You can probably due it via csv file, but for my small numbers it is just as easy to enter by hand.

For credit cards, I will probably just end up entering the transactions under a regular vendor payment and then reconcile and pay like a normal vender. This isn't my preference but it is so much easier than the Peachtree method of enter credit card payments / transactions.

Expect quite abit of learning curve on this, I wouldn't make the switch during a busy time or you will be very frustrated. It is a little frustrating at first. You won't be able to even print out a check, unless you order the Peachtree check forms. You can go in and edit / customize your print form. I probably messed with it for 30 minutes to get it back to the QB check type. It took me awhile to figure out that you can select and move whole areas of the form.

All in all, considering I made the switch to accomadate Windows 2007 and paid around $128 instead of the $200 for QB 2010...I think it was the right decision.

If you are a heavy QB user and have lots of transactions, credit cards, etc. I would not recommend the switch to Peachtree unless you have the time to get use to the program, say at least 4 to 6 weeks minimum.

I did find some of the Peachtree online stuff to be very helpful...although the answers I got, were not necessarily to my liking.

Warning, I did have issues transfering the data at first. It had to do with the User Account settings. You have to initial turn the Windows 7 warnings completely off, transfer the data, and then turn the User account settings back. Just do a search on your error message and you will find the solution.

We needed to upgrade from PT 2008 for Win 7. Nice new feature is you can open multiple companies and look at them side by side which becomes invaluable when working with intercompany transfers or analyzing multiple companies for planning. We had trouble registering and required three calls to tech support before they could straighten it out. Tech support thought it was because we had to upgrade our databases from PT 2008. Once registered it's works great and if you know accounting its far easier to use than QBs.

Software came right away from Amazon. BUT Sage requires the software to be registered through a 800 #. They do not have enough bodies answering the phone to handle the registration process. I held for a tech person for two one hour periods before giving up. On my third try the office was closed "due to its tech support receiving training". A third try on another day accomplished the task after at least a 30 minute wait. This is to complete a registration process that only takes minutes.

I resent paying for software and then being put through hell in order to be authorized to use it.

I was so angry as a result that I can never be comfortable using it.

This software has a terrible interface, useless help features, and you'll be forced to register and then you'll get bombarded by spam and junk mail forever. I HATE this company and this software.

Unless you are actually an accountant you'll have a tough time with this software. Want to use a template to set everything up... good luck. Have common business like an eBay reseller or a blog with advertising revenue? You won't find any template that fits and you'll spend many hours trying to customize something to make it work for you. Very frustrating. I taught High School accounting and this software is still so convoluted and useless in it's design that I quit using it altogether. The regular Quicken (not even QuickBooks) is more useful and easier to implement for small businesses than this horribly designed software.

This is not the software you are looking for. <--(Jedi Mind Trick)

I needed to change accounting packages since my current program will no longer be supported by Microsoft. After doing a great deal of research, I decided to buy Peachtree Complete Accounting. I have been using it for several weeks now and I could not be happier! I only wish that I had purchased Peachtree from the onset. Squaretrade Warranty - ipod, squaretrade warranty

Squaretrade is the real deal. I have been a warranty admin for 20 years and know the heartbreak people feel when they think they have a covered repair only to find out they do not!! My experiences with square trade have been subperb!they did everything they advertised just as advertised with no headaches, no waiting and in the end replaced the unit without question! Normally I would be against buying any type of service contract, or extended warranty but after the experience with my GPS I swear by Squaretrade. I have now covered all of my new electronics. Squaretrade is the way ALL warranties should work, no fuss, no muss just repair, replace or refund period!SquareTrade 3-Year Electronics Warranty ($250-300 Items) SquareTrade 3-Year Electronics Warranty Plus Accident Protection (Electronics $250-300)

Almost a year ago I purchased an Asus netbook and at the time I decided to take advantage of SquareTrade's 3 year warranty with accidental damage coverage. I was more concerned at the time with the atom processor possibly malfunctioning or a hard drive crashing than anything else. I had owned laptops for many years and never had an accident. This time was different. While attending a picnic for my local Linux Users Group , I had the misfortune of knocking the netbook (in its case) off of the picnic table. The short fall cracked the screen and I was sure that I was out a netbook and had not been planning to purchase any new computers for at least 2 more years. I remembered that I had purchased the SquareTrade warranty and when I checked it did have the accidental damage coverage. It only took minutes to file a claim on line and they e-mailed the shipping label and off it went to SquareTrade. No hassles at anytime in the process and I have a check from them for the original amount of my purchase and have replaced my netbook and I am extremely pleased with the whole experience.SquareTrade 3-Year Electronics Warranty Plus Accident Protection (Electronics $250-300)

I had purchased a warranty through SquareTrade on a GPS system after recieving an email and looking at the website. Unfortunately, we had some problems with the GPS system so I called SquareTrade. The whole process was so smooth and I loved the fact that every step of the way was followed up by an email explaining everything. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. We did end up having to replace the GPS system, so they sent a check for a full refund to me. Not to mention the money I saved not using the store warranties. I will definitely purchase all warranties that I can through SquareTrade.

UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD TO USE 3 OF MY 10 SQUARETRADE WARRANTIES AND COULD NOT BE HAPPIER IN EVERY WAY. THE WARRANTY PRICES CAN NOT BE BEAT AND THE SERVICE IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOU COULD IMAGINE. DO NOT HESITATE TO USE THEM FOR EVERYTHING THAT NEEDS A WARRANTY.

I have been pleased with my SquareTrade warranty on my XBOX 360 Elite. I had to have my XBOX repaired once after buying it, so before the original warranty expired and because I had already had problems, I purchased an extended warranty from SquareTrade. I'm sure glad that I did! A couple of months later I encountered the RROD (Red Ring Of Death; stats say that this happens to 40% of XBOX 360 consoles). I contacted SquareTrade and they said I needed to send them a copy of the purchase receipt for my game console (which I recommend doing right after purchasing a warranty for those that are not organized). They confirmed that they had received the receipt and then I had to send them the console and accessories for them to confirm the problem. A week or so later I received a check for the full original purchase price of my game console. This would have been hundreds of dollars down the drain without the SquareTrade warranty. They proved their worth to me.

I can't say enough good things about the SquareTrade Electronics Warranty Plus Accident Protection. I fell the other day with my IPOD Touch-32GB in my rear pocket. Fortunately I had purchased this policy. On 4/20/11 I filed the claim online and within hours, received approval of my claim plus a pre-paid UPS shipping label. I elected to receive payment via Amazon Gift card where I planned to purchase the replacement. On the evening of 4/21/11 I received an email from SquareTrade with the gift card information needed to purchase my new IPOD. I call this outstanding service with a capital O!!

I purchased an extra warranty/accidental for my husbands new rangefinder. Square Trade emailed me the warranty in a matter of minutes and also followed up with a phone call and found out that it was a gift and then mailed me a copy of the warranty. I have been well pleased so far even thou I have not had to use the warranty yet.

This is the second warranty I have purchased. The first was on my first Acer Laptop which got the blue screen of death after 1-1/2 yrs. I emailed SquareTrade and within 10 days I had returned my defective laptop and received a complete refund. I would recommend them for any warranty .. fair price and excellent customer service. - Ipod - Warranty - Squaretrade Warranty - Xbox 360'

Nose Clips - speedo, swimming

I had originally ordered a pair of Speedo nose clips and they were too small and too tight and you could not adjust them. I then ordered these and what a great difference. These are adjustable so you can have just the exact amount of pinching you need and that makes these extremely comfortable. The difference is day and night. I highly recommend these..... Cressi DF 200189 Swimming Nose Clips

These nose clips work well. They do tend to slide a little while swimming, but I haven't had too much water get through yet. The storage container that accompanies them is a little small and I find myself spending far too much time trying to get the clips in the darn thing than I really should. But overall, the clips are good.

Its width is adjustable when given considerable pressure, which means that it won't loosen its hold on its own. However, I can't use this as it is intended; I have to wear it up-side-down, or else it slips out within seconds. I don't have an issue with an oily nose; the clip just won't stay put in the upright position. I have tried tightening/loosening it, but to no avail. However, I do have a lot of hard cartilage on my nose, so maybe that's why. The material of the nose clip is good, and it will probably never wear out, so it's good value for the money as long as it works for you.

The nose clips are awesome, they are strong and tight.. However I didn't like my nose being clipped during swimming and hence not using them.. The Ear buds were supposed to be a part of this, but I never found them in my package.. I just received the nose clip. - Speedo - Swimming'

17 Inch Laptop Sleeves - laptop sleeves, 17 inch laptop sleeves

I would highly recommend this to anyone with a 17 inch laptop! I have a 17" Toshiba and was having a hard time finding a bag or a sleeve to fit it. I even took my laptop to Best Buy to try things out and the bags (shoulder or backpack) were either ginormous or didn't fit, and the sleeves were not easy to use. This sleeve is PERFECT- nice and snug, I don't have to worry about zippers scratching the laptop or breaking. It does have a bit of a smell to it but it will fade- definitely NOT a reason to not buy this! Hope this review helps you make a decision! 17" Widescreen Laptop Notebook Sleeve Carrying Flip Case Bag for Fujitsu, Samsung, Dell, Acer, ASUS Eee PC, Gateway, HP, Sony, Compaq, IBM, Mac, Sharp, Toshiba models

First of all this thing fits my 17" widescreen gateway p-7811fx laptop perfectly.

The catch is, it smells bad, like burn plastic or something similar.

Have to wash it several times before the smell go away

Other than that, everything looks great

The sleeve fit my dell studio 17 laptop and stretched to accommodate the small stand the was connected to my laptop. The sleeve stretches evenly and provides a wonderfully snug fit. If you are thinking that your 17" laptop will not fit you are likely wrong like I was.

I am very happy with the sleeve, just bought the new gateway P-7805u gaming laptop. I searched all over for a sleeve big enough for my laptop and this fits perfectly. th battery on my laptop sticks out the back but its no problem with this sleeve since it folds over. The smell is very bad though, other than that its perfect. I would recomend to anyone with a very large 17 in laptop. Just make sure u wash it a couple times to get rid of the smell! - 17 Inch Laptop Bag - Laptop Sleeves - Notebook Sleeve - 17 Inch Laptop Sleeves'

Video Conversion - vhs to dvd transfer, roxio

This review could have gone very, very badly, had it not been for Roxio's excellent support website, and their intrepid PR person, who kept the dialog going when I was ready to wash my hands of the whole thing.

That said, the last thing I wanted to do was start yet another review with: "I really wanted to like this product, but..."

Over the last four months, when I unfortunately had a lot of time on my hands (a victim of the current economic unpleasantness, since resolved, and I am again very happily employed), I decided I needed to regain some storage space in my increasingly cramped townhouse. My collection of several hundred VHS tapes had to go. There were, however, 40-50 titles I wanted to keep and decided to put them on DVD. I had planned on doing this almost two years ago, and found a superior (and expensive!) analog to digital video converter, a Canopus ADVC-300, which I was able to find at a very acceptable price on eBay. I set up my VHS deck in my computer room, connected the video and audio outputs to the ADVC-300 inputs, and sent the output to my dual 2.0 GHz Mac G5 tower's Firewire port (still running Mac OSX 10.4), and into my copy of iMovie HD (from iLife '06). Each two hour tape took up 25 GB of disk space in the DV file format. I quickly trimmed unwanted video at the start and end, and inserted chapter markers when the tapes had multiple programs, or if I was putting two 1 hour tapes on a single two hour DVD. These chapter markers directly imported into iDVD where I picked a theme, edited the captions, and burned the final DVD. On my G5 tower, the process of rendering two hours of video before the DVD could be burned, took 4-6 hours.

I repeated this process on my black MacBook with a 2.0 GHz Core2Duo processor, and 3GB of RAM, and everything worked about the same, except the render time took a few hours less, thanks to the speedier processor.

Mostly, I started the recording process just before I went to bed. The next morning, I spent about 30-45 minutes editing the DV file, pushed it to iDVD, and let it render most of the day. By late afternoon, I had another DVD for my briefly empty shelves. It took about 6 weeks to finish the process and I was able to put all the gear away.

Enter [...] own John Nemerovski (that's Nemo to you...) who had heard about my project and thought he had a great review project that was right up my alley. Roxio had just released a Macintosh version of their popular easy VHS to DVD product and was looking for reviewers. In spite of my reputation for writing negative reviews on this site, he gave the job to me anyway...

I received the package, which contained a CD, Getting Started Guide, a Roxio Video Capture USB Device (the brains of this outfit), a short USB to USB extension cable, and a breakout cable with stereo audio, composite video, and S-Video connectors. The CD contained the easy VHS to DVD for Mac software, as well as a (very) limited-feature version of Toast 9.

The Roxio Video Capture USB Device looked suspiciously like something from Elgato, makers of a number of magical video products that bring video content into your Mac via the USB 2.0 port. The big difference, however, is the software. The Elgato-branded device outputs MPEG-4 video, while the Roxio device outputs MPEG-2 files (the same format as commercial DVDs).

I installed the easy VHS to DVD software on my G5 tower, connected the Roxio Video Capture USB Device to the front USB 2.0 port, and connected the audio/video breakout connecting cable to cables from the output of my VHS recorder. When I launched the software, I was immediately directed to Roxio's website to download and update the software, taking the revision level from version 1.0 to 1.0.1. I went through the easy setup procedure (more on that below), and tried to record some video. At the end of 2 hours, I clicked the stop button, and in the next window, clicked the "Send to iMovie" button. My Mac spent the next two or so hours converting the MPEG-2 file to an intermediate format, but instead of opening the file into iMovie as the instructions suggested they would, I got an error message stating the program could not find the iMovie program. Thinking I'd done something wrong, and tried it again (if I'd been just a little bit smarter, I'd have recorded five minutes of video, and not two hours!), and got the same results. After hunting around the hard drive, I found the MPEG-2 file in the Movies folder at the top level of my home directory. When I opened it in QuickTime Player, I immediately spotted a problem--a massive number of dropped frames. I then checked the size of the file--about 600k--it should have been somewhere around 5.4 GB!

I repeated the above step with my MacBook, and at least got a 5.4 GB MPEG-2 file with no evidence of dropped frames, but still got the iMovie error. I went to the Roxio support boards (excellent, by the way, with very responsive support people) and discovered many others were experiencing the same problem.

Thinking it was at least partly my fault, I bought an additional 2GB of RAM, and went to [...] to buy a copy of iLife '08 (I'm still using MacOS X 10.4--Tiger, which is not compatible with iLife '09). I found a great deal for an OEM disk for around $[...].

About a week later, another updater came out, version 1.0.2. Same problems with both issues: dropped frames on my G5, and no automatic opening of iMovie HD. Around this time, I was contacted by Roxio's intrepid PR guy, wanting to know how things were going. Boy, did I tell him! In a couple of days, I was granted access to a beta version of an upcoming patch. I downloaded and installed it, and viola'°! No more dropped frames (though still no automatic opening of iMovie HD)! It also opened iMovie '08 (part of the iLife '08 package), which only served to remind me how evil iMovie '08 really is. I had forgotten that Apple, in their infinite wisdom, eliminated the ability to enter chapter markers where you want to add them (since restored in iMovie '09).

Here's what I found from my research:

1. The easy VHS to DVD software is not compatible with iMovie HD. It will not automatically launch iMovie HD and load the finished movie into it. That function works fine on iMovie '08, and while I personally didn't have the chance to see it in action, it probably works equally well with iMovie '09.

2. The dropped frame problem was almost universal among dual processor G5 users.

3. The beta patch resolved the dropped frame problem on dual-processor G5 machines, and permitted automatic launching of iMovie 08 (and iMovie 09).

4. As a workaround, you can make iMovie HD process the MPEG-2 file by manually dragging it from your Movies folder directly into the iMovie HD application window. It will take fair amount of time for iMovie and QuickTime to convert the file into something that iMovie better understands.

5. Roxio's web support is very good. Their support staff monitors traffic on the message boards on a very regular basis.

I detailed this story to share my pain with the readers, knowing that most of you would not have had this much patience or persistence, and would likely have demanded your money back, weeks before I finally achieved success. But then again, I am a very tenacious problem solver, and tend not to give up easily.

Okay... Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I can tell you that with the latest beta release software, which will probably be finalized very soon and made available on their support site, it mostly works as advertised (other than the pesky iMovie HD issues).

Here's how it works:

Launch the easy VHS to DVD for Mac software, and the first screen (above) is displayed. This is where you enter a name for your project, use a pull-down menu to set the approximate length of your video, and set the quality level for the file (standard or high) with another pull-down menu. When you click the Continue button, the next screen is displayed.

You are prompted to test your cabling to ensure your connections are functional. A small video monitor screen shows your video source (if everything is hooked up correctly). Click Continue.

The next screen repeats this process for audio, to ensure the software is decoding the audio from your source. Click Continue.

The overview screen continues previewing video and audio. If you don't see the picture, or if you can't hear anything coming out of your Mac's speaker, you get one final opportunity to go back and fix the problems. Once you are satisfied, start your tape rolling and click the Start Recording button. That same button is used to stop recording when you are ready to do so. If you are operating this product unattended, you might want to click the handy checkbox that automatically stops recording, based upon the recording time you set in the first screen. The benefit of doing this is that you won't totally fill your hard drive with garbage if you forget to come back and stop recording after an extended period of time. Remember, in the high quality mode, you are eating up disk space at the rate of 2.7GB per hour. In eight hours, you could wind up using over 20GB of disk space.

When you click the Stop Recording button, you are taken to the Finish Up screen, which gives you the option to automatically open Toast and begin the process of recording the video to DVD. The Edit with iMovie button starts a conversion process that takes an MPEG-2 video file into another intermediate file format before importing into iMovie '08 or iMovie '09. Send to QuickTime player converts the file to MPEG-4 format before opening the QuickTime player application. Note that the Edit with iMovie and Send to QuickTime Player functions require an additional hour or two to convert the video into compatible file formats.

Quality? In a word, it's great, at least with VHS tapes that didn't have a whole lot of quality to begin with. The better the source, the better the converted file will be. At $[...] it beats the solution I had been using by many hundreds of dollars. This same product can be used nearly anywhere in the world, as it automatically detects and configures itself to output to the analog NTSC or PAL video standards.

This review could have gone a completely different way. Thank goodness it didn't. After a few weeks of troublesome operation, the last software release solved nearly all the problems I was experiencing. In all likelihood, the copy you buy today will include the latest updates and you should have a wonderful experience with easy VHS to DVD for Mac. As with any video project, the faster your computer's processor, the more RAM, and the more fast hard disk space, the more you will be satisfied with this and other video processing products. You will quickly learn that working with large video files requires a lot of patience while your computer, and I don't care how fast it is, plows its way through the file(s).

Even with all the other difficulties, I will say that the software was always stable--it never crashed in the several weeks I used it.

Pros:

Low price brings video conversion to the masses.

Easy setup.

Saving files in MPEG-2 format reduces final rendering time.

Can save in MPEG-2, MPEG-4 formats.

Great quality.

Cons:

Initial problems with very buggy software.

Toast 9 Basic has very limited feature set.

Incompatibilities with iMovie HD in spite of advertised claims.

Processing time is slow, slow, slow, though not really Roxio's fault. Video files are big and take a long time to process.

The final rating would have been higher had it not been for the problems I suffered through with the supplied software. I went through far more hoops than most customers would tolerate, even with the able assistance of Roxio's PR guy--someone most customers would not have access to. In the end, it was worth the effort, and easy VHS to DVD for Mac is now a solid product.

MyMac rating: 3 out of 5.
