Small Safe - small safe, pistol

Very Sturdy Safe, the shelf can be removed but i like it because my Beretta PX4 fits perfect on the bottom in the factory hard case. My Ruger LCP fits right on top of that case still under the shelf. The top shelf holds plenty of ammunition and accessories. The locking mechanism is very strong and very easy to reset combo if needed. Stack-On PS-514 Personal Safe with Electronic Lock

If you're looking for a home safe to store valuables and important papers in, this is a good selection. It has available holes in the bottom and the back of the safe to either mount to floor and/or wall. The ability to turn off the beeping keypad is a benefit for those looking for a place to store a weapon for emergencies.

As others have said, this is not a "fire" safe - it is a theft safe. If you're looking for something to protect your possessions in case of fire, look specifically for a fire safe.

This safe comes with keys that will open the safe using a hidden keylock in case the battery dies. Also, an LED will let you know when your battery is getting low.

Of all the safes in this price range, this appears to be the best bang for the buck. Also, at 30# shipping weight - free super saver shipping from Amazon is a plus!

We have two of these and have never had any problems with either one. We reprogrammed the code to our own numbers without a hitch and have never had a problem with it opening. Even with an 8 digit code it's very fast to open in an emergency! Lights change color when it's batteries get low. Recommended.

Simply a great product. We purchased this to keep our valuable stuff in. We wanted something that was very easy to use because we keep our keys, checkbook, wallet etc in it. Fits inside a standard kitchen cabinet.

We will be purchasing another just like it.

I bought one of these safes for storing one of my home defense guns. I wanted a safe that would keep my children out (no ifs ands or buts), would be small enough to keep out of sight and would provide easy access in an emergency. After reading many of the reviews for biometric or no look safes it was clear that they would not meet all of these requirements. This safe meets California's requirements for gun storage and you are able to select your own code up to 8 digits and the code is very easy to change if you want to maintain an extra level of security. In the few months that I have owned the safe it has worked flawlessly.

For the price you will not find a better deal! I bought my first safe to make sure that I like how well it operated and to make sure it met my requirements. I shortly there after bought a second one. I highly recommend this safe.

I purchased this to store my handgun and some ammunition in - other reviewers had mentioned that they had purchased this safe for the same reason. The safe is great - the build quality is good, it's rather heavy given the size, and the door is pretty flush with the frame, which would make it difficult to pry open with a pry bar. Here are some things I liked and didn't like.

Pros:

- Relatively solid construction (solid heavy metal, and the keypad is good quality)

-Comes with a backup key (in case batteries die)

-Able to be secured via screws to either a shelf, or a wall (or both - screw holes are on bottom and back)

-You can turn the keypad beeping off in case you don't want someone to hear you opening the safe

-It has an internal shelf, which is removable if you didn't want it.

-The inside has a padded surface, so your contents don't get scratched

Cons:

-The unlock handle is made of plastic. If someone is going to break on this safe, the handle will be the first to go. I wish it were made of metal.

-Plastic handle can be a bit difficult to grip because it's slippery.

Capacity is decent - I keep a Springfield Armory XDm 9mm handgun (gun is about 8" long), and roughly 10 boxes of handgun ammunition and two magazines inside the safe. Everything fits fine. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, and if you're looking for a small safe, I recommend this one. If the handle weren't so flimsy, I would've given it five stars.

I bought this to secure 4 of my Semi auto 9mm pistols. This is my review:

Pros:

Setup - When you take it out of the box, just put in a battery then set your pass code. You then insert the internal shelf and padding. I secured mine to my wall with the included screws. It took me 30 minutes to set up including the drilling. I didn't want someone running away with my safe and my guns. Very well written instructions.

Security - It comes with a bypass key, in case you forget your passcode and this safe locks you out.

Construction - It is solidly built. All steel and it is heavy.

Price - This is the best price I have seen for this safe in stores and online.

Storage - Fits 4 9mm pistols(without the case of course), 2 on top and 2 at the bottom with 2 magazines each. I actually put my valuable docs underneath the guns so, this serves a dual purpose.

Cons:

Interior lining - The padding inside the safe is a thin foam padding on each shelf. They should have fixed them into place or put them more securely so that it does not move when I take things out of the safe. Not a big deal though.

Summary:

This safe is very well made and looks and functions superbly.

Great value in a small home safe. This won't stop the professional thief but since most burglars are in a rush to grab and run, it offers protection. I was able to bolt it to my floor and it would take a massive pry bar to get it loose. The dual locking system works well. There is plenty of room inside for my needs. - Pistol - Safes - Small Safe - Home Safe'

Made In Italy - valentino made in italy, suits

1) CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great job! I initially ordered a 46L, but after trying it on, realized it was too long, and sent it back for a 46R. The exchange was seemless, as it arrived in a timely fashion.

2) QUALITY: For the price, this is certainly worth it. Nice feel of material, says it is wool/silk blend, made in Italy. Color matches picture. Good detail on the lining. Flat front, working buttonholes, comparable suit would cost much, much more in a department store.

3) FIT: Jacket fit excellently. PANTS: NOT AMERICAN CUT. In other words, if you are used to extra room in slacks around hip area, you will need to let it out. Fortunately, there is room. Also, pants have a short rise (i.e. short zipper) and is fairly straight-legged, so keep that in mind if you have large thighs. They can be best described as either Italian or Asian cut, but definitely not American cut. So, although the usual rule is pants are 6 inches less than jacket, count on an 8 inch differential. Again, you can let them out, but just be prepared.

Other than that, this suit gets a high overall score, and you should be satisfied with look/feel/fit. Gino Valentino Made in Italy Wool / Silk Mens Suit 150's 3 Button Hand Made Canvas Front Jacket Plus Flat Front Pants Custom Working Buttonholes Business Suit Brown (42 Regular)

I've purchased a number of these suits and my closet is now full with no complaints. They all look better with more features than my Oscar dela Renta. The Valentino jackets are a perfect fit for me, they are nice looking with a great feel. My tailor remarked that they are a well made as any designer off the rack suits he has seen. I agree. One must be careful about the size though and try on a number of Italian cut suits be for purchasing. - Highly Recommended - Made In Italy - Suits - Valentino Made In Italy'

Dead Bolts - dead bolts, schlage

For years we have been using a key pad activated deadbolt for front doors in our various homes - no keys to lose or give to various family members - only four digit codes. Up until now, all of the key pad units we have installed, extend and retract the deadbolt using a small battery powered electric motor.

This issue we've encountered is when the batteries become weak, the motor (in some cases) does not have enough power to retract the bolt and we must revert to another entrance to get into our home. Although these unit allow one to use a key to override the electronics, we never seem to have the key "on us" when it's needed. Fortunately we have a keypad on our garage door and that serves as an alternative entrance when this occurs. These deadbolt retraction failures have been occurring more and more often even with fresh batteries. I suspect the motor is or has worn out.

With this in mind, I shopped the market for an electronically activated dead bolt with manual bolt action. In other words, instead of a motor extending and retracting the deadbolt, one would use a lever or knob to perform this function. The keypad (electronic segment of the unit) would serve to activate the manual knob or lever. I found the Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Deadbolt Keypad, Satin Nickel on Amazon at an extremely reasonable price and it has all of the features I wanted - electronic key pad activation, manual extension and retraction of the deadbolt upon activation.

The unit arrived yesterday and after a few problems with the unit being confused as to whether the bolt was retracted or extended (my fault), the unit works perfectly. Note, I already had a deadbolt lockset on the door, so it was a simple process of removing the old, and installing the new.

It's an extremely high quality unit without the cheap plastic casing my prior unit had on the inside casing. It's all metal. Changing or adding key pad codes (combinations) is relatively easy. One must enter the units six digit master code (don't lose this code, keep it in a place that you can go to each time you wish to change the codes - Using a permanent marker, I wrote it on the inside of the lock), and then enter your personal four digit code. We use two codes however the unit can store many codes. You may want to add a temporary code to let a service technician into your home, then delete that code when the work is completed.

One feature I like is the lighted key pad which our old unit did not have. If we forget to turn on the porch light, by simply pressing the "schlage" button at the top of the keypad, the keys light up.

Here's the basic operation.

When you're leaving the house, close the door, press the "schlage" button, wait for the click, then extend the deadbolt. You'll hear a confirmation click confirming that the locking knob/lever has been disengaged from the deadbolt after the deadbolt has been extended.

When you arrive home, simply enter your four digit code, you'll hear a click, then manually retract the deadbolt and enter the home. I you wish to use the keypad light; simply press the "schlage" button to light it up. Obviously this is not needed during daylight hours.

Basically the nine volt battery is operating the keypad, a knob/level engagement solenoid and the keypad back light and should last for hundreds and hundreds cycles.

Bottom Line - I highly recommend this high quality unit. Schlage BE365VCAM716 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt, Aged Bronze

I have had the brass version of this deadbolt for bout a year and I love it. It is th best one that I have come across (and yes - the most expensive - but you get what you pay for). It is eye-catching rather than an eye-sore. Be careful, some of the cheaper competitor's models have a plastic back that is very unappealing for a main door. The unit is smaller than many by requiring only a 9 volt battery because it does not lock/unlock the deadbolt for you. You do it manually.

Pros:

1) Appealing design (front and back - no plastic)

2) Smaller than most (due to use of 9v battery)

3) Keypad lights up when you touch it for nighttime entry

4) Never get locked out. Give the neighbor a temporary code to get in.

Cons:

1) Pricey ut you get what you pay for

I installed one of these for a client and it seems to be a good product as all the reviewers say. What no one has talked about however is the standard Shlage key that can also be used to open the lock. It seems to me that this would allow the possibility of using a "bump key" to open it. One of the benefits of digital locks is their immunity to bumping. If you want the keypad just for convenience, that is fine. Just remember that any lock that can be "bumped" provides zero security.

We were consistently running into problems with the number of house keys we had given out to: contractors, landscapers and house cleaners. At some point there's no way to track who's coming and going into your house and whether or not they left the keys.

This little gadget eliminates the issue. I can now program the lock with one-time or multiple use codes unique to each individual coming to my house. It installs as easy as any other deadbolt and programming new codes takes about 10 seconds. This has quickly become my favorite new gadget.

I purchased the Schlage electronic deadbolt to allow entry into our house in case I didn't have a key with me. It works very well. Only drawback that I see is that it needs to be placed on a solid door without a glass panel as the lock has a lever on the inside that operates the deadbolt. There is no option for key locking from the inside, only the lever. Locks only keep honest people out, so it's better to have a deadbolt that is key lockable from both sides if you have an exterior door with glass panels. No need making it easier for a thief to get in than is necessary. - Schlage - Keyless Deadbolt - Dead Bolts - Keyless'

Yoga Towel

I have been doing Bikram yoga for about a year now, and needed something longer than a normal bath towel. Instead of buying the expensive yoga towels, I went for Gaiam's, and have not been too impressed. It does absorb much more than a normal towel, but does not stay put on top of the mat in between poses which causes me to constantly fix it, leaving me with little if any resting time. I suggest buying the expensive towels for it's worth the cost in the end. Gaiam Thirsty Yoga Towel (Smokey Purple)

Just started Bikram (hot) yoga and was slipping and sliding on my old bath towel, so I decided to give this a try. It fits perfectly to my yoga mat and really does absorb the sweat really well. It bunches up a little when we are moving positions a lot, but overall I feel it was money well spent, especially seeing how much other manufacturers charge. Definitely worth it!

I bought this in place of a Yogitoes towel and found that although it doesn't have the anti-skid nubs on the underside it still stays in place fairly well. It's super absorbant and significantly cheaper than a Yogitoes towel. I endorse this product.

This towel works well - absorbs moisture, fits a yoga mat perfectly, and is well worth the purchase if you slip due to perspiration in a yoga class. Other similar products cost twice as much and I see no reason to pay that much. I would buy this product again.

I wasnt impressed with this towel at all. i would have been better off spending a few extra bucks on a yogitoe with non-slip backing because this yoga mat towel made maneuvering much more difficult. A lot of slippage and made practice distracting. WOuld work in a pinch for heated yoga when a lot of sweat is involved.

I bought this because when I am doing more vigorous yoga the palms of my hands and soles of my feet tend to sweat making it very difficult not to slide all over the mat. As a result, I find my form suffers and I don't get as good of a workout.

This towel is an okay solution to those problems. It absorbs moisture very well so I no longer slip at all, even after a long class. It is also long enough that it covers my whole mat minus about 3 inches. However, the towel tends to get VERY bunched up. This is especially problematic if you are doing something like a flow class and don't have time between poses to stop and smooth it out. It actually doesn't disrupt my yoga practice that much, but it does make me feel more self conscious. Other than that I do enjoy this towel so I am going to see about using velcro or another solution to keep it secured to my mat as this is the only gripe I have.

Pretty color, but moves around a lot and is basically like any other towel from home. I suggest buying the "Hot Yoga Mat Towel 2 Pack for Bikram Ashtanga Iyengar" - these towels are the best for my Bikram practice, so much so that I even wrote a review :)

I am definitely a fan of this towel. I do Bikram yoga 4-5 times per week, and this towel absorbs well, and fits perfectly on my mat. One Thirsty Towel was not cutting it for the frequency of my Bikram Yoga practice, so I bought 2 more. The price is right, and it does the job. I noticed a lot of people were saying this towel slides around on their mat - I do not experience this. Perhaps you aren't sweating enough to make this thing stick to your mat?? :) I sweat like a fire hydrant on full blast, so I am sure that is why my towel doesn't slide around my mat. If you don't sweat much, maybe you would be better off with the more expensive kind with the silicone dots.

Definitely a fan, and will probably buy a 4th!'

Cordless Phone - expandable multi-handset, dect 6

Finally a phone that works and isn't a P.O.S. I had an expensive Panasonic ($125) single cordless phone with no answering machine. Can't hear anything on the Panasonic phone and they said it needs to be unplugged and plugged in when it does this - to reboot it. Needed to be rebooted a few times a day - now it's in the garbage where it belongs. We also had Uniden phones (5 of them) - all very poor quality and noisy with poor range.

This AT&T phone has a great range with excellent sound. No noise! Easy to program. Only need to program one phone - all the handsets will then see your directory entries. No need to program each separately. These were so great that I bought a 3 phone expansion pack: 3 more handsets. I also bout a great headset that works on the DECT 6.0 1.9GHz instead of bluetooth. That means it has great range.

We have AT&T voicemail - so we didn't need or want an answering machine. A Voicemail button would have been nice, but we just put it in as an entry in the directory.

Another big plus is the ability to talk on multiple handsets at the same time. My other cordless phones couldn't do this (just one conversation between the base and one handset at a time). Now I can pick up the phone and when it's for someone else - they can pick it up before I hang up. And we can both talk to someone on two handsets at the same time. I think it supports 4 handsets simultaneously...

here's the headset that works with this:

AT&T TL7600 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset and Charger (Silver/Black) AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital 3-Handset Cordless Telephone (CL81309)

These phones are a huge improvement over our former equipment (Uniden). The three handsets are interchangeable, the reception is excellent, and we like that the headsets blink when there is a voicemail.

OMG. What took me so long to stumble upon this fantastic cordless phone?! After purchasing several pieces of crap from Uniden, I FINALLY learned my lesson and switched to this wonderful AT&T cordless phone set! It works BRILLIANTLY!

It has every single feature that you could imagine under the sun (except for a headphone jack & a belt clip, but those 2 things are completely unimportant to me), it is totally logical & intuitive to use, it has crystal clear voice quality, it comes with a wonderfully helpful and intelligently-written 60-page users guide, and it comes with all sorts of clever things that I never would have thought of (for example, your address book on one phone is instantaneously shared on all the other phones).

I can't really say enough great things about this phone. I am so happy to be finally using this cordless phone set in my household. This is the one. This is the cordless phone set to get.

PROS:

--Attractive, but not flashy and "space-age" looking

--Good range

--Clear sound quality

--Syncs with my Vonage "V-Portal" phone adapter perfectly: Caller-ID works fine. Notifies me of voicemail then deletes the voicemail notification after I've finished listening to it.

--Intuitive interface (a rarity with phones, these days). All buttons and their purpose are clearly labeled. No "combo" key codes just to delete a letter, etc. Just hit "delete"

--Inexpensive in comparison to more popular manufacturer's models. From what I've read... more reliable, too.

--Well written and informative user manual.

CONS:

--Earpiece could be louder. It won't be a problem under normal circumstances, but I can think of a few where it will.

--16hr initial charge period, before you can use it. Don't they manufacture rechargeable batteries that maintain (something like) 80% of their charge, while idle? It's heart wrenching to not be able to play with a new toy for almost a full day after removing it from its packaging.

OTHER:

--Though I realize that not everyone has voicemail, it would be nice if they included a programmable "voicemail" button (or just an unlabeled programmable button for your customization), for quick access. It's easier than scrolling through a library of contacts to get to your voicemail.

--Amazon's photos make the phone look white. They don't do it justice.

OVERALL:

A well thought out and designed wireless phone system that sacrifices the bells & whistles (that other manufacturers seem to concentrate on) in favor of reliability and ease of use.

This phone gets good reception. I can walk a few houses down the street without any interferance or static. My only complaints would be 1)There is no page feature if you misplace the handset. 2)There is no voicemail button. 3)There is no visual voicemail light other than on the base system. If you don't care about those things then this is an excellant phone.

This is an awesome phone, it is easy to use, it's large enough so you don't have problems shouldering it to your ear. It has good clarity, the Voice mail indicator is nice. The other review is correct, they do need to add a Voice mail button. I would recommend this to anyone. - Expandable Multi-handset - Dect 6 - Cordless Phone - Dect Cordless Phone'

Power Inverters - inverter, power inverters

This inverter is compact and does exactly what it is intended to do. The USB slot is a nice feature. I have used it on 8+ hour roadtrips powering cell phones, laptops, DVD players and other items. Never a problem. Wagan EL2402 SmartAC 200W Power Inverter with USB Port

Very nice, I use it in my SUV, then hook my notebook up to it, runs a little hot but not too bad, I also charge my cell phone off it, small, and has an on/off switch with a green power light, I like it.

I don't really see how you could get a better product. I took it cross country MA to CA and back, it worked like a charm always for all my charging needs. The USB is really handy for cell phones leaving two ports open for larger plugs like laptops or cameras.

I have an Odyssey deep cycle battery in my car. I ran my power hungry Dell desktop replacement laptop off this charger for 2 weeks, no problems. The laptop has a 90W power brick. I also ran the 90W laptop power brick + a 50W external laptop battery charger at the same time. If your car's wiring is protected by a 20A fuse, then 200W continuous is the most you're going to safely pull through your cigar lighter. I picked this unit because it's 200W continuous. Many of the other available "200W" products are just full of marketing slime and don't give 200W continuous, they give 200W peak power for a few minutes and can only handle ~150W continuous. Small annoyances: the user manual claims it has an airplane plug adapter but it doesn't, and the plug is so long that it's not the best fit for my car's cigar lighter. I have to carefully align the flexible springs on the plug to get it to stay in, but if so aligned they do stay in.

We went through two of the Wagan EL2402s. The first arrived and a piece of solder fell out of one of the vents. May have been extraneous, but better to be safe than sorry, Amazon was great and overnighted a replacement. At best I can only give mixed reviews. The is supposed to be able to handle 200 Watts with a peak of 500 Watts.. Fairly substantial in print. In reality, things like battery chargers, cell phone chargers, etc., all seemed to be fine. Where the problems began were on more "specific" devices. We wanted the device for my wife to run a 35 Watt Chi hair straightener. It would not even turn on. The description says power tools, so I thought I'd given a try to a couple. First a sabre saw, again well under peak and normal wattage to be handled. Nothing, a blip when I pulled the trigger, then nothing. A Dewalt hand drill... well kinda sorta.. If you started out VERY slowly on revolutions and worked your way up, you could get to full speed. I didn't try that under a load, but I assume it would work to a point.

I called Wagan, and they assumed some of the failures cames from the fact that AC devices are used to and built for a sine wave output. The Wagan (and I assume some others) don't produce the exact same sine wave (calling it a modified sine wave). So, your own mileage may vary. Some Notebook AC Chargers may be more sensitive than others, so you probably can't be sure. Again, I don't know that Wattage alone is the delimiting factor. It may that your particular device just won't work.

My advice, read the reviews.. If you have a particular device or devices you are thinking about running, perhaps check with the manufacturers of these different inverters. Remember electronics are pretty sensitive devices when it comes to power. While I may be willing to try a Chi hair straightener, I may not be as comfortable with a notebook.. Best bet there is to see if your manufacturer has a DC supply (Car/Airplane) adapter.

I use this primarily on airplane flights. The device is nicely sized, and it fits in my travel bag well. It worked like a charm when I had just my laptop plugged in, but when I plugged my phone into the USB plug as well, it seemed to stop charging both items. The device was also pretty hot after use, but all-in-all, it does the job for my needs.

A little early for an in-depth review as we just recently purchased the inverter. At this point I can say that it has performed well. We have used it to charge cell phones as well as batteries for our camera and it functioned exactly as advertised. It is fan cooled and the fan operated well and there was no problem with noise. It was warm to the touch, but I believe it is normal for them to generate heat. The only way to make it run cooler would be to increase the fan size which in turn would increase the case size and make it less portable. Based on our initial experience, I would recommend it as an excellent purchase.

Worked really well for our recent travel. I was able to connect my GPS and a portable DVD player without any problem. I didn't get a chance to charge any USB devices because I had a wall-charger for them and it was just easier to plug it in then trying to fiddle with the USB port while driving. - Portable - Car Adapter - Power Inverters - Inverter'

Work Pants - uniform, 511

On the plus side -

I have replaced my 5.11 pants with the Propper pants. The pockets are better thought out for tactical pants and the fabric is extremely durable. Why buy converted mountain climbing pants (5.11) when you can buy purpose built tactical pants.

The hidden wallet pocket and cellphone pocket makes these pants a must-have.

On the minus side -

Two major complaints, if you are physically fit and actually have muscle in your legs the thighs may fit you a bit tight - the pants are a full 1.5" less full than standard issue ACU's. This may be a plus if you're trying to look snappy on a security detail, but you do notice it if you are going under/over obstacles and moving alot. I have ordered up one size in the waist to see if that will address the matter.

If you are overweight - proceed with caution, while the waist is expandable, the thighs are narrow.

Second major complaint - the cargo pocket has no bellows just a pleat, that means it lies flat against the thigh and does not expand. so it is perfect for extra 5.56 magazines, but it is not functional as a general "store-all" like the old BDU's and newer ACU's. If you are used to stashing stuff in your cargo pockets you will have to find another location. Propper Tactical Pants Khaki 36 x 32 F52208225036X32

The claims about stain resistance are true. I'm gotten some tough stains that washed away without special treatment. They are not waterproof, but do hold water on the surface for a short period in order to brush it away. This is my fifth pair of the same pants in different colors. They have not faded in any capacity that I can see. The material is stiff (particularly before a few wash cycles). They keep a pressed look that means they maintain a certain stiffness. At this point, I use them for workout clothing. They are $10 more than the regular fatigues and in my opinion, definitely worth the difference. I have not worn them in hot weather but the comfort is better than I expected. There are built-in metal loops for attaching any number of devices.

I work for a private ambulance service and ordered 2 pairs of the khaki pants. they shed water and spills, are extremly comfortable, great pocket placement. If you are looking for a pair of extremly well designed duty pants there is no substitution.

Bought two pair after reading the reviews and because I didn't want to spend $50 for the reputable 511's. The pants I ordered are thick, durable, comfortable and pocket locations work very well. My next buy will be for the summer weight pants. Excellent pant!!

Great pants. The small pocket on the left thigh is perfect for my Gerber. Just wish it had pockets near the ankles like my ACUs but that's a personal preference. My only gripe is the belt that came with he pants is already fraying on the tip and I've only been wearing them for about a month.

I always order a size longer for shrinkage of my pants, unfortunately propper does not lie on their sizes so it was a little big. However they fit fine, no sag. Feel a little stiff but they are suppose to. Remind me of my bdus. Plenty of pockets, just need more stuff to put in them.

A+ on the seller for shipping and condition. Shipping was fast ordered during New Years eve and got them today. :)

I work in the public safety arena and wear BDU cargo pants almost every day to work. I own six pairs of 511 Brand BDU's but when I read the reviews of the Propper BDUs I thought I would take a chance. They have won we over! They are a better built and better shaped BDU pants. I have since switched over to the Proppper Brand and thrown away my 511 pants. The Propper pants fit better, they are hard to stain thus cleaning them is easy. My girlfriend says I look so much better in these pants since they fit better and are not as baggy as the 511 Brand. One word of warning is that if you are over weight (i.e. FAT) they may not fit as they are a slimmer fit in the legs. My only complaint is that they have an inner pocket in the rear pockets and that makes it hard to get your wallet in and out of the pants, I cut out the inner pocket with scissors and everything works great now. I highly recommend these pants and will continue to buy this brand in the future. - Uniform - Cargo Pants - Tactical - 511'

Electric Consumption - energy consumption, power meter

This product was pretty easy to install and setup. I live in a 3-unit condo in San francisco, and the signal transmitted fine from the garage to the master unit, probably 30-40 feet away and through a number of walls.

I'm already an efficiency nut and have replaced all the inefficient fixtures in my house with flourescents, and do a good job turning things off when not in use.

My main issues with this:

- It only measures in 100W increments, so you can't really track how much a compact fluorescent light or anything else small uses. You need to use a Kill-a-Watt or something like that

- The update interval is a bit slower than I would have liked

- There's no good way to get this data off the master unit and charted online

- It seems to be quite inaccurate around 300W. My nighttime usage it says fluctuates between 0 and 0.3 Kwh. I really want to figure out what my zombie devices are and I'm having a hard time figure out why there's always 300W of usage in my house. I unplugged the fridge so it's not that, and I'm using a Kill-a-watt to try and track down everything else

- It does let you figure out how much electricity the big things in your house use like the dishwasher, washing machine, heater, toaster, microwave, vacuum, TV, etc.

What I really want is something I can replace my electrical outlets with and have them communicate with a central server and track usage at each outlet.

For $100 this is a neat device, easy to install, and will find any really bad power usage that you have, but it left me wanting more.

Update: I decided to buy the TED Energy Detective as it's more accurate than this and I have access to my subpanel. That device isn't wireless and I wish it was, looks like there isn't a perfect product on the market yet Black & Decker EM100B Energy Saver Series Power Monitor

I have a Blue Line power monitor. They look so much alike, that I'd suspect they are both made by the same manufacturer. Anyway, my pet peeve with my power bill is that it's like a credit card. Once a month you say ouch and then forget about it. This thing is a constant reminder. My wife bought in immediately. It lives in the center of our house and the wife and I reference it constantly. Instant gratification. Turn off the air conditioning and watch the # get smaller.

I don't have teenagers, but I suspect that they would buy into this thing.

I used 30% less Kilowatts this summer. My power bills have a tiered rate system, so the actual $ savings was more than 50%. Paid for itself this summer. Now it's all gravy and I've got a much better understanding of my power usage.

I was without it for 24 hours (didn't have new batteries to put in the sending unit - yes it had been warning me for a week) and I felt naked.

Like my uncle said about his TIVO, there are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those with a power monitor and those who don't know about it yet.

This item is manufactured by Blue Line Industries for Black & Decker. Blue Line sells a slightly better version for about $15 more. The big difference is that Blue Line provides knowledgeable technical support. My meter is mechanical with the spinning dial best viewed from the side. The instruction manual advises you to call Black & Decker if you have this situation. Black & Decker's response was that it was not compatible with my type of meter. Called Blue Line and they advised that there was a work around and that Black & Decker should have the answer. Called BlacK and Decker again and they didn't have a clue. They would try and get back to me in a couple of days but not Monday because they are too busy. Called Blue Line again and asked for the sales department who explained the work around. If you anticipate any technical questions order the Blue Line version. The Black & Decker unit is being returned to Amazon. - Energy Consumption - Energy Savings - Electric Consumption - Power Meter'

High Performance - computing, i7

I have has this processor for about a month. My intention is to overclock it but I have not yet. I am waiting for the Corsair H60 to use as the CPU cooler.

The stock CPU cooler is very nice indeed. It has a switch on it which allows you to let it run silent or for power. I am using it in the silent position and can hardly hear it when gaming.

What can I say. Nothing slows this down! Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition Processor 3.46 GHz 12 MB Cache Socket LGA1366

If you are looking at building a system from scratch - this eval of the various i7 cores is for you. I will cover the performance aspects, best bang for the buck, pitfalls, power suppplies, and OEM options. If you are looking at the i7-990 then for some reason known only to you - you have a need for performance. All I intend to show is where money buys the most performance.

The i7 975 and the i7 990 are meant for a powerhouse application. Depending on what you plan to do with the system you are building, consider the best value for your money. The fastest processor won't always build the fastest system - consider this example:

Right now (3/2011) the I7 975 is about 400 bucks less than the I7990, which happens to sum to be the price of an NVIDIA GTX480 graphics card from evga or several other vendors (approximately) - so you could buy an I7 975 and equip the system with a GTX480 graphics card (with 480 graphics processors in parallel + 4 system cores) , 1.5 gb of video ram on card - basically 2 earlier cards SLI'ed together into JUST ONE double wide slot in terms of performance) -- or on the other hand, if you want to max out your computational performance, and not your well balanced system performance, the i7990 is the only way to go as it has 150% of the 4 cores (6 cores in the 990) which gives you roughly 1.5 times the computational processor performance, so long as your motherboard and chipset can get the data into and out of the processor fast enough! So the i975 is 4 processor cores and 480 graphics cores, the i990 is 6 processor cores and 1 graphics core. For 400 dollars more you only added 2 cores to the system if its primary job is graphics (of course it could be a database machine in which case RAM is where its at, but that's a different fruit of a cpu)

So looking at this chip for a fixed price (1K) in a system, you could get a slower 4core chip and a gtx480 card with 480 graphics cores designed to work with adobe cs5 (photoshop/premiere pro/ anything in the cs5 ultra package) and nearly every game, - or just get the high performing 990 core with 1.5 times the compute power of the 975 and no graphics system for almost exactly the same price (3/2011). Put simply 1K buys 480 graphics cores + 4 system cores, or could buy (today's pricing) 6 system cores and on board graphics (which nobody would do!)

Before you make the decision - first think of your use - is the machine going to be an all out video proceessing blu ray presser - then the GTX480 makes a very nice setup with the 975. If you want a killer game machine it's on the edge- sure you need the power of the 990 chip, but the graphics rendering of the 975+GTX480 can run circles around a 990 w/ onboard graphics (of course you would never use an onboard graphics card, but I'm trying to get the prices equal - realistically if you want an all out gaming system, the 990+ gtx590 card would be a killer machine at 1900 bucks in cpu+graphics spending, but you can do an awful lot with the gtx480 by itself due to the cuda core parallel processing capability of your graphics card running cuda-aware software.

Example - I bought a system with a 975 chip and standard "gtx class" (probably a 260 - but it was OEMed) to render 1 hour of avchd into a blu ray disc came back at 24 hours of runtime. Ouch. Hope the lights stay on- beter invest in a good ups. (out of curiousity without the gtx260 that same oem system with a stock 9800 graphics quoted 2.5 weeks of processing to do the same job - double ouch) - then putting in the gtx 480, yanking the OEM 250 watt power supply and using a corsair 1KW (NEVER skimp on power no matter what you are building - 1KW would be the minimum if you have any kind of graphics installed) then the numbers came in - that same job - 1 hr of avchd at 24mbps down to blu ray took 27 minutes with the GTX480, down from a full day on a GTX260 oem board. Speed improvement for 400 bucks (when I bought the gtx480 that was the price - i'm sure it is cheaper now) was 48 times faster on the same system processor.

Just a minor note, the corsair supply gave me 4 sli power connectors, the GTX480 used 3 of them to run it (most sli capable graphics cards only need 1 sli connector to the power supply), so don't plan to SLI 2 GTX480s (which *is* possible upwards of 1500w/240VAC) unless you get 1500W of dc power and 6 sli cords to run just 2 GTX480s, which you really don't need, 27 minutes to do an hour production is more than twice as fast as realtime, so I'm already getting it done in less time than the final output with just one GTX480.

If you are budget driven and want a well balanced system consider for a minute the i7 975 3.33 ghz chip combined with the GTX 480's *combined* performance alongside the GTX990 chip and some run of the mill graphics system. You'll see that 1K dollars buys you more performance using a slower processsor and a faster graphics subsystem (which weighs in heavier than the motherboard, so some good strapping to the cage is mandatory) in any graphics intensive application (e.g. non database - there you want 24GB of ram)

Of course, if money is absolutely no object, get the 990 and the GTX480 and you'll be more than thrilled with the system performance, but don't be surprised when the windows 7 benchmark is still 5.9. It's a balancing act to make a machine that has a fast disk (yor first limiter in the system benchmark) and a fast proc, fast memory, and fast graphics - it just works out that way when allocating the funds to build a system (and I've built several dozen since intel announced the 8086). When you concentrate on disk speed, system cache files on ramdiscs for improved performance, and high end graphics your total system score won't disappoint you with a 5.9 limited by the disk drive after spending 2400 bucks in hardware, when 1500 bucks will get a 6.9 system performance score. Even then - if its a gaming system, a 6.9 means nothing because that benchmark is for general office use - high performance gaming systems MUST have the top of the line graphics, as much processor as you can afford, yet you don't need as much main memory as you might think since so much is done on the graphics processor card. You do however need FAST main memory, usually overclocked. Game systems are a tad unbalanced when you allocate your money to get the best frame rate in a particular game.

To summaraize, yes, today this is the latest fastest biggest thing from intel - but in 9 months it won't be - somthing will be faster, more cores, etc. Assuming you are building a system from scratch today, then this is the best you can squeeze out, but intel has something around the corner (who knows - the i9-999Z chip? maybe) that will obsolete your processor. My point is simply don't dump cash down the processor hole unless you have a limitless supply - think balacned system and see where nvidia is heading - the gtx480 came out a while back and they may have a 490 out by now - for me I'm happy with the 480, but I also considered the 460 - the selling point on the 480 was the video workstation performance. And while Intel is preparing the I9-999Z 16 core chip, don't forget that Nvidia will be right behind them with their own motherboard that takes the TZG-999 graphics subsystem with 1000 cores. You can't stop the progess of technology - just buy what makes sense for your application.

Before buying the fastest anything in a computer system, consider what will be the first limiter to the system's overall performance - disk cache? a fan? a power supply? Sometimes spending just 89 bucks will push you into the next performance bracket by fixing the limiting element to the machine. Most people use 2TB 7200RPM drives - and they max out at 5.9 - people who use 10Krpm drives get better disk performance and slightly better system performance. Is it worth it? Depends on your disk cache file - ram is cheap today with the 4G sticks of ddr3 comming down in price, which allows 24G systems - setup the machine to allocate 10G of ram to disk cache and suddenly that 10Krpm disk isn't working as hard if you have 10G of a 24G system cacheing disk requests. There are alternatives you must pick through in designing a system for your purpose. I've barely scratched the surface talking about cpu, graphics, and ram.

Lastly, never believe any benchmark - build the system for your intended purpose - mine happened to be video editing - yours may be gaming - the two share similar goals, but if you want a database machine, you don't need a 480 core graphics card. Plan the system build and never forget the chipset you choose and the motherboard - they will come into the equation next with usb 3.0 comming out, e-sata, etc. If the chipset can't deliver data from main memory into the 4 or 6 core processor, then they will yield performance numbers so close you'll wonder why the extra 2 cores aren't working. It's an overloaded motherboard chipset.

Building your computer from scratch can be fun and exciting. You will, however, end up spending more to build it from scratch than buying a GOOD oem system and adding practical enhancers to it. Never plan to steal the o/s off the OEM system and transfer it to your homebuit machine because windows 7 won't let you do that with their security safegurards and anti-piracy (i.e. they sell win 7 ultimate to HP for say $75 but sell it to the computer store for $175, but HP commits to buy 100,000 coppies per year, while the store commits to buy 10. The coppy installed in your OEM HP system is branded to only run on HP systems, while the 175 buck version in the store will run on any cpu, however once you brand it to a motherboard, you are stuck with that combination - change mobo's because you want a new chipset and suddenly your screen goes black and your system naggs you that it's non-genuine and you need to pay 175 to microsoft. That prevents you from getting the good deals OEM makers do on motherboards, processors, and most importantly - the o/s. I guarantee you HP does not pay what amazon does for the I7 990, which is a great 6 core chip. - I7 - Intel - Core - Computing'

Manual Pencil Sharpener - manual pencil sharpener, pencil sharpener

After reading all of the mostly positive Amazon reviews for the Bostitch QuietSharp Glow Electric Pencil Sharpener, I couldn't help but make the dive and purchase it. It seemed like the king of all pencil sharpeners - fast, quiet, and sleek. What else could I ask for? And I got it at a decent price through Amazon. As a first-year teacher, I was excited to make this purchase for my first classroom.

Well, turns out I was completely wrong about this sharpener. When I plugged the unit in and sharpened my first pencil, some unexpected and extremely disappointing things happened. Skeptical? I would be, too, because this sharpener seems so awesome, and the positive reviews are abundant. Here's what I found...

First, I noticed that the unit, contrary to its title, isn't really all that quiet. I've heard plenty of electric sharpeners in various classrooms, and this one isn't really much quieter than any other sharpener I've used or seen. It's sad because its selling point, in my opinion, is the quietness with which it's supposed to sharpen, but that's not what happens. I expected something much quieter for its being advertised as a quiet sharpener.

Second, and also contrary to its title, the point on the pencil is not sharp after sharpening. I tried four pencils before I was too disgusted and had to stop, and each time I sharpened a pencil that thing happened where the wood comes up over the top of the lead; this is completely inexcusable for the price of this sharpener. A pencil sharpener is supposed to sharpen pencils the last time I checked, not make them dull. I was using top-quality pencils (Ticonderoga), so I can't even blame the brand or quality of pencils. And what makes things worse is that after the sharpener thinks it's sharpened your pencil fully, it shuts off automatically, and to sharpen it again you have to pull the pencil out, wait a couple of seconds, and put it back in, only for it to mess up yet again. It's a vicious and frustrating cycle. Sure, the blue illuminated ring looks pretty cool, but that's MAYBE this sharpener's only redeeming quality. I wish the sharpener wouldn't automatically shut off because sometimes you might want to fine-tune your point and leave it in a bit longer to make sure it's completely sharpened. With this sharpener, you have to remove the pencil and reinsert it. I could see this frustrating the students in my class, and it would only prolong the trips to the sharpener during class, thus frustrating ME in the end.

Third, while sharpening, the unit shook up and down in a sort of bouncing motion. I expected for its size, weight, and the fact that it has suction pads on the bottom that it would stay at least fairly still while sharpening. The shaking is not a huge deal, but it's just another annoyance to add to the list.

Fourth, it's hard to determine this from the pictures, bit this thing is HUGE. A pencil sharpener in a classroom should be somewhat compact, discreet, and out of the way, and you should be able to move it anywhere because the classroom could change at any point. I could see this device being in the way all the time and taking up way too much space. At first glance it looks like some kind of kitchen appliance.

The bottom line: the Bostitch QuietSharp Glow Electric Pencil Sharpener is certainly a good idea and a cool concept (who wouldn't want a quiet, fast pencil sharpener in the classroom?), but its poor functionality and poorly executed design leave me no choice but to give it 1 of 5 stars. I can't even think of any redeeming qualities for this sharpener. It is not very quiet, it does not leave a sharp point, and it's way too big for most classrooms. If anything a pencil sharpener should leave nice, fine points on pencils and then I could tolerate other minor flaws, but this product does not even sharpen pencils adequately, especially for the high cost. For less than half the cost of this pencil sharpener you could find something much more convenient and efficient for your classroom. Don't make the same mistake I did by being drawn in by Bostitch's deceptive advertising strategies. Simply stay away! High Definition - high definition, action

What happens when you cross a little James Bond, extreme sports, Vin Diesel, Samuel L. Jackson, and the director of "Fast and the Furious", you get a fun-loving adventure film called, "xXx".

"xXx" starts with the CIA discovering that their current stock of secret agents are unable to get undercover with a new gang of international terrorists. The terrorists enjoy spending their time at a trendy dance club, enjoying fast cars, and even faster women. With no hope of placing one of the current CIA agents into this organization, Special Agent Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), decides to begin recruiting some "new talent" that would fit in to the terrorist's world. Enter Xander Cage (Vin Diesel), an extreme sports junky that hosts his own extreme show, The Xander Zone. After clashing with the law one to many times, earning him the three strikes penalty that will surely land him in prison, Gibbons offers Xander an opportunity to repay his country for the freedom he enjoys by inserting himself into the world of this terrorist organization, while trying to discover what exactly they are planning.

"xXx" is by no means a replacement to the 007 films, but it is an entertaining alternative for the new generation. With plenty of action and explosions, even a decent storyline and acting, this is quite an enjoyable movie. Critic's of Diesel saying that he was a poor man's James Bond, should realize that neither Diesel or the filmmaker's set out to replace James Bond, merely give audiences a new, uncoventional kind of spy movie. "xXx" had the makings of a highly successful franchise with the phenomenal box office success that this film enjoyed, sadly the sequel "xXx: State of the Union" was not nearly as good.

Even though the sequel was lackluster, "xXx" is quite enjoyable. If you are a fan of action movies that actually have a story to accompany the explosive action sequences, then "xXx" is the movie for you. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

"xXx: Unrated Director's Cut" contains violence, nudity, and language. XXX [Blu-ray]

First off, I like the film. But... the blu-ray is disappointing. The clarity is not what I expected and no better than the DVD. In a word, grainy. So, if you got the film on DVD, just keep than and enjoy a fun action film. The blu-ray has no further special features or anything else special.

"xXx" can be summed up in four words: "Joylessly Over The Top". It is easily the dumbest movie I have seen in a long career of enjoying dumb movies, and that's saying A LOT. I liked "Deep Rising", for God's sake. You all know the story: Extreme Sports maverick Xander "XXX" Cage is given a choice by the government: Work as a secret agent, or go to prison for life. He chooses option A. And so this train wreck of a movie begins. Lets start with the story. As a dumb action movie, I am inclined to ignore the gaping plot holes and let myself enjoy the action. This is allowed in most dumb movies. However, you need some convincing performances or at least some good lines to make this forgiveable. "xXx" has none of these, save a good turn by Samuel L. Jackson as Diesel's recruiter and contact in the NSA. Now, the NSA has no field agents in real life. The only people they recruit are number crunchers who can sift through encripted data and listen in on conversations. And they certainly don't have the kind of secret weapons cache like the one Diesel gets in this flick. At least Bond film have the good sense to make him MI-6, a real British spy agency that MIGHT have stuff like the gear Bond gets. Why not make the agency the CIA? I mean, at least the CIA has operatives. I don't know why this bothered me so much, but perhaps it's because I've read books on the subject and the stupidity of Hollywood is getting to me. Anyway, Back to Samuel L. He's always good, but in this movie he is only serviceable. Still, compared to Vin Diesel, Jackson turns in a performance of Shakesperean power. Diesel is that bad in these scenes. I was actually embarrassed for him when I saw him act alongside Jackson. Ah-nold would make a more convincing Hamlet than Diesel does in this role. Of course, when he's along other bad actors like Asia Argento(Generic Female Counterpart) and Marton Csokas(Generic Russian Bad Guy), he seems serviceable. The movie would have been better if they had cast, say, Eric Roberts in the Jackson role, since he can't act either. At least than Vin wouldn't look lost in his scenes with him. The plot is neo-Bond with a techno/metal soundtrack, in which a group called "Anarchy 99" plans to wipe out a whole bunch of people using toxic gas and a lame submarine. Vin has to infiltrate them and stop them. Why the US government would send an untried agent against these guys is never explained, as nothing Diesel does couldn't have been done with someone they gave a deep background to. Despite the opening scene, where a Bond-lookalike gets offed, the government actually trains operatives to infiltrate groups like this. On to the direction. Rob Cohen proved with "The Fast and the Furious" that he is a heavily incompetent action director(Forget acting. Anyone who heard Diesel perform the line "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" in that mess knows Cohen can't direct actors). The digital scenes in "Furious" looked awful, and they look awful here as well. The action is blown over the top in an attempt to make up fot the shoddy directing. With the exception of one memorable scene involving the destruction of a corvette, everything in "xXx" is uninvolving and unoriginal. Hence the tern "joyless". It's all a technical excercise. There is no sense of danger, as Diesel is apparently able to do 18 things at once and never appears at risk. Cohen should be locked away for his many crimes against cinema. All in all, I hated this movie(could you tell?). I wanted my money back. I want Vin Diesel to stick to roles like Riddick in "Pitch Black", where his dialouge is minimal. Avoid buying this one and pick up an old Bond movie or even the flawed but interesting "Minority Report". You'll thank yourself later. - High Definition - Action - Rifftrax - 1080p'
