Crossfit - chin-up, chin up bar

I'm not sure why some of the other reviewers had problems installing this pull up bar but, in my opinion, giving the product less stars because you can't install something doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you pre-drill the holes correctly and make sure it's level it should only take you around 15 minutes to install. Granted I did put this up in my garage and easily found the studs because the drywall was not painted.

I love the pull up bar and have been using it for several weeks now. My only complaint is that it is a little pricey for just a pull up bar. Either way I give it five stars for quality and accuracy of product description...it does the job. I use reviews all the time to decide if I should buy a product which can be dangerous because of all the fake posts but, my advice for this pull up bar, don't let installation deter you from this product...maybe the price though. Ultimate Body Press Wall Mounted Pull Up Bar

Let me begin the review with declaring that I am an amateur when it comes to DIY, know just enough to hang paintings and other stuff around the home. I was on the lookout for a pull up bar that satisfied the following criteria

- Good quality product

- Installable on studs placed 16" apart

- Adequate wide grip

- Correctly placed neutral grips

- Has foam covered grips

- Shipped by Amazon

- Finally reasonably priced

When browsing Amazon for such pull up bars, the ultimate body press pull up bar satisfied all the above criteria. Ofcourse, could confirm the quality only upon receipt of the item. Planned to return the item if I found it to be defective.

The product came well packaged. The instructions were pretty poor and inadequate. Following are the instructions (reworded to make the sentences shorter)

1) This pull up bar is designed to be mounted on studs 16" apart

2) Find the two studs and mark the location

3) Hold the support bracket to the wall over the stud for template. Mark the locations for holes

4) Make sure holes are level

5) Pre-drill holes using a 7/16" bit

6) Assemble the pull up bar and grips using the machine bolts, washers and lock nuts

7) Hang the pull up bar using wood bolts

8) Tighen (typo) all bolts and carefully ensure the pull up bar is secure before use

The wood bolts (lag screws) provided were 7/32" root diameter and 5/16" shank diameter. I searched quite a bit on the internet for installation instructions for lag screws and finally came to the conclusion that a pilot hole equal to root diameter size is ideal. So, it bothers me that in the instructions provided, they recommend drilling a 7/16" pilot hole, exactly twice the required hole size. And, not sure why they provided anchors along with other hardware.

Being an amateur, I took a couple of evenings in finding studs, marking holes, checking level, drilling holes and kept everything ready for the d-day. It took me less than 30 mins to install the pull up bar assembly and just as I was about to tighten the last screw one last time, it broke (typical lag screw problem). Cant explain the frustration. Spent another afternoon trying to get it out, broke an extractor, strained my shoulders, etc. In the end, I gave up after creating a big hole and installed the whole assembly higher than my ideal spot. After installing the two supports with the neutral grips, I was worried that the holes in the bar wouldnt line up with the ones in the supports, but was glad they did. I have to use a small step stool to hang on to the bars, but am happy overall with the installation. Its sturdy and am sure wont fall off anytime.

Rated it 3 stars mainly for the poor quality of instructions. It doesnt take much time to write better instructions and especially special instructions for installing lag screws. And, how about including stainless steel lag screws for an increased price or atleast specifying the material of the lag screws that are included? It would be better to weld the bar to the supports, so that there is one less measurement to worry about during installation.

A pro DIYer might rate the product better, but not everyone is one, so detailed instructions with photos are a must. The only photo provided in the instruction sheet is of poor quality, had to return to the Amazon page to see the photo just to make sure the bar is installed on the bottom and not on the top.

The pilot hole recommended was too big. I found out after drilling and seeing the bolt was too loose. Then later, like BK, I broke a bolt using a socket and wratchet, tightening by hand. I weight 270 lbs and am looking forward to actually using the bar. Hopefully, we can salvage the current location and drill a good hole beside the broken off bolt. It seems steady, except, I'd suggest two bolts on the top of each brace, not one. But, that could just be because I'm a fatty. If it fails, it will be from the stress on the top bolts. Well positioned grips and plenty of distance from the wall for freedom of movement, unless you want to swing.

I may be back to give it a 4. - Chin-up - Fitness - Chin Up Bar - Trx'
