New Balance 1011 - womens-newbalan, wide toe box

If you are flat-footed or at least somewhat flat-footed, these shoes are the most important shoes that you should own. I use them every day for working out whether it's aerobics, walking, etc. and my feet NEVER hurt from wearing the wrong shoes. Plus, they are light-weight and have the breathable mesh upper. Nice! The only thing I wish is that New Balance would make them in some other color than just teal & white. It's a nice color, but just ONE color is gonna get really boring. Come on, New Balance, give us some color choices! New Balance Women's WR883 Running Shoe,White,11 B

This shoe fits very poorly on the top of the foot. I have narrow heels, slightly wider forefoot, relatively high arches and use orthotics - this line of shoe has always been perfect - until the 883. The 883 has several deficiencies compared with previous versions of this shoe (878, 881, & 882): There is less material on both the medial and lateral portions of the upper (or vamp) so when laced up there is a much wider gap between the laces. The tongue is narrower than earlier versions. The narrow tongue and insufficient upper make for a very uncomfortable fit on the top of the foot (under the laces). Additionally, the loop on the tongue is positioned closer to the toes than previous versions; this enables the tongue to slip & not stay centered under the laces. Combine the narrow tongue, less upper material, and poor tongue loop placement for yet more discomfort.

I love the fit and performance of earlier versions of this shoe: 878, 881, & 882. Hopefully, next year NB will fix these problems - perhaps return to a proven winner...

I was cleared to start a running program. I have 2 Morton's Nueromas. I had no problem with my feet with these shoes. I am a pretty standard women's 9 and they fit like a charm. I am very pleased with this shoe. I am running around 5 miles straight now and my feet feel great.

I have plantars in both feet and another issue in the toe area. I went to a (way overpriced) shoe store near Colonial Williamsburg and they suggested New Balance and a wider toe box and a bigger shoe than I had been wearing. I went from a size 8 to a 9 wide. The sales lady said that this is one of the New Balance shoes with a wider toe box, unlike many other shoes, even in wide forms. I love these shoes. I don't dig the silver area as far as looks, and the white mesh is now a very dark grey but I live in these. I love these shoes.

My podiatrist said that I should get New Balance. The lady said 9s and bigger toe box. I am totally passing all of this along to those of you with foot problems. If you watch, you will see a lot of older (or overweight) people have that big N on the side of their sneakers, and for good reason. These are roomy in the toe area, just the right amount of support.

Also, you can log on to New Balance's web site or even CALL THEM and talk to someone who will really help you find what you need in shoes. Then, come back to Amazon for the best price. If you do searches for a lot of foot problems, you will see everyone suggesting New Balance. Love em!

PS I needed to replace these this month. I went with a cheaper New Balance shoe that had great reviews on Amazon..well, they were soooo small! So, I went to Kohls and got a cheaper New Balance that I had tried on in the store, but after a few hours of wearing them, they realy hurt. SOOO I went back to these exact same shoes, the New Balance 883 and love them again. I can't say enough good things about these. If I could afford to, I would buy ten pair just in case they stop making them.

I also learned that the numbers associated with New Balance (in this case 883) tells you it's a better quality than their shoes in the 200s for example. It also means that the higher the number, the better the arch support. At least this is what the lady at our new New Balance outlet told me. I do still wear supports in these.

My right foot was hurting from the tongue of my walking shoe not fitting properly. I went to a shoe fit expert and he pulled out this shoe. My foot no longer hurts from wearing the wrong shoe. These are great shoes. Lots of support. I agree with another reviewer, though. Needs more color selection.

I have very wide feet and bunions, and these shoes are fabulous! I have been wearing this style for 3 years. They change a little bit from year to year, but they are still great. I wear them for walking and moderate running, mostly on the treadmill. They are light and comfortable.

I really believe that fit is most important.

I went to the store and had my daughter try these on. Perfect fit with this size and width combo.

The availability of different widths is one of New Balance's strengths.

Then I came home and ordered them on Amazon for 1/2 the stores asking price.
