Audio-video Shelving
I don't regularly post reviews on here, but since I barely found any reviews for this product online (and had to rely solely on the description and picture), I figured this review might help someone else. :)
After hunting through TONS of stands online (300-400 on some of the "mega" sites) and looking for one that would fit nicely in a corner...this one topped my "top 10" list. And I'm glad I stuck with it!
The picture on here doesn't do it justice...it's a beautiful looking stand. The tempered dark glass is elegant...and the steel frame is built extremely well. You can't even tell it's metallic from far away, because it has a nice piano black gloss finish. It looks very slick in my family room and was easy to wire everything up (and set up was a breeze).
Plus, Amazon has the best price I could find anywhere (approx $50 cheaper here)...and with Amazon Prime...it was here the next day on my doorstep.
It's a beautiful, simple, open design. Get this and you won't be disappointed! :) Sanus Systems SF-A29B 4-Shelf Audio Video Stand (Black)
Stand was delivered very quickly, however the box was beat up and heavily damaged and the package came without any of the glass shelves!! One call to customer service rectified the problem, a new stand was sent (the box was also beat up) but all the pieces was present and intact. The stand is sturdy and strong and very pleasing to the eye. A very good choice of AV stands
I am using this shelf to hold a upper mid-range AV receiver, a TiVo HD, and a BluRay player. It satisfies all of my criteria and accomplishes its task with a sleek modern appearance that fits with my other components.
This is a medium height component shelf; I'm over 6' tall and the top of the stand is a bit below my waist. There are four shelf surfaces (counting the top of the unit); the middle two are adjustable (5 positions available) and all shelves are dark gray smoked glass. It comes in the box as 5 pieces, plus the glass. The front of the unit is made up of a very sturdy, single-piece aluminum box frame (in the shape of a lowercase 'n') with a flat black painted finish. The unit has a decent depth, but my AV receiver (18" deep) extends out the front slightly more than I'd like (leaving room for speaker and device connections at the rear).
I subtracted a star because of a slight bow in the front aluminum frame that prevents me from using one of the middle shelf positions. While not noticeable from a distance, there's a slight inward bow great enough to make the opening too narrow for the glass shelf to slide in at that exact height. I was able to configure the unit using different shelf positions. While I wish that position was usable for me, the fact that such a small variation can cause the shelf to not fit indicates that the unit was designed to a high precision and indeed everything else fits together snugly with no play or wobble.
All four feet are adjustable (screw type) with a plastic bottom to avoid scratching wood floors. The rear of the unit is slightly different than what's pictured on Amazon -- the cable management slot is now a continuous rectangular cutout that passes vertically behind the bottom three shelves... NOT individual holes as pictured. The perforated aluminum plate provides rear ventilation (though the sides are completely open) and the outside edges curve frontward and cradle the glass shelves, preventing lateral movement. The holes on the rear plate are also conveniently sized to allow cable ("zip") ties to be used on the back to help secure or hide excess cable. I was pleased to find that all edges are finished (not sharp).
I do NOT recommend using the top shelf of this unit to support large televisions!
While there is a way to tighten and "lock" the middle shelves in place, the non-adjustable bottom and top shelves are supported directly by the aluminum frame and held in place by gravity. The top shelf is sturdy but it is not anchored to anything. From purely a safety perspective, I would not place anything on top that would extend past the edge -- particularly with children around.
Nice looking, easy to assemble, weighty and solid and overall good quality. But design does not feature adequate bracing on lower struts that attach to legs, resulting in some wobbling when top shelf pushed back or forth -- I have a Denon mp3 "2-turntable" mixing station on top, and the assembly "gives" a little when I mix.
This audio cabinet is compact, but holds all that we needed. It was easy to assemble and sturdy. My only concern is that the top glass is set on top but not strapped in any way. On occasion it has been pushed awry from its placement.
All in all I am very happy with this purchase.
I spent a lot of some time searching for the perfect stand for my needs. This is a great stand. It's solid, holds very heavy entertainment components, and has a clean look. I only wished that the back grill was detachable or on a hinge, similar to a server rack/cabinet. If this will hold all your components, stop reading reviews and buy this. You won't be disappointed.
This item as shipped was heavy. When we opened it up, it did not have any instructions to assemble. Following the picture on the top of of the box was extremely helpful. After about 2 hours, and some fumbling around, we got it assembled and placed. I put an old Teac 4300 open reel tape recorder on the top shelf so the moving of the top shelf is not an issue to me as it was for another reviewer. Overall I find this to be an attractive stand, however all of my gear will not fit on this stand and I've ordered different stand that should accomodate my gear. I'll use this as a tv stand in our spare bedroom.
I recently received and assembled this audio/video stand. I selected it because of the steel construction and weight bearing capability. I was a little surprised at how heavy the package was. Inside the parts were well packed. The outside package had been damaged and torn, but the contents were well protected. I've had other wood/mdf stands in the past and their quality was often less than ideal. This stand is robust. It was simple to assemble. The back panel is a modestly opaque grill and does a decent job of hiding wiring and cables.
If there was any downside to this stand it would be that there is no adjustement in shelf height. But overall you'll be hard pressed to find a better built stand.'
