Amazon Oddities - cocktail accessories, ice cube tray

Quite cool I think. Perfect for those cold rum concoctions of summertime. Sure, it's pretty expensive as an ice cube tray, but it's got a high novelty factor. Pair it with a good Easter Island drink and you have a new tradition in your home.

My recommended drink for these ice cubes:

"Pisco on the brainstem"

5oz Pisco (duty free shops in South America have the cool Moai bottles for much less than any US liquor stores)

3oz Fresh lime juice

2tsp Cane Sugar (Maui sugar is best)

1oz Limoncello (or Orangecello)

2oz Lemon sour mixer

Pour over Maoi ice cubes. Top with 151 rum. Fred & Friends Stone Cold Ice Trays

VERRRY cool item and versatile too! Highly recommended! I melted some chocolate chips in the microwave so they were "just" melted and not "too" hot, then filled the mold, let it set to cool solid in the 'frig and voila'....cool "Easter Chocolates" (get it?). Looked cool and tasted even better. I plan on making Moai mini soaps next. I figure as long as the liquid is not too hot, it should be okay to fill, since it's silicone.

There's something about those Easter Island statues that I've always liked, so I love having little ice cubes shaped like them.

The ice tray itself is great, it's like a silicon rubber that can be easily bent to remove the cubes you want at the time without any trouble whatsoever. Because of this they also retain their full shape, unlike plastic trays you have to twist and sometimes the ice breaks off, leaving some left in the tray. With the silicon, this never happens.

The tray makes neat ice. It's a bit messy to load, but using a small cutting board for stability it can be managed fine.

The problem is that it taints the ice with a bad taste -- a plastic / rubber chemical taste. Perhaps it can be avoided if the ice is removed from the tray and stored in another container immediately after freezing, but if you leave it in the tray for more than a day, your drink will taste bad.

The Fred & Friends ice cube tray makes for a novel addition. Cubes turn out great, but the frame is weak and it is difficult to get into the freezer (especially if yours is overflowing like ours). Other than that, it has been durable and a good product.

Perfect for party drinks or just to hang out, they look really cool. Only concern is the tray is so rubbery it needs some support to carry it with water. Not even a minor concern just a thought. Ice comes out easy and looks sweet.

they freeze quick

i see some guy here whined that the tray changed the taste of the ice? i assume he didn't read the instructions and tried to eat the ice tray.

some others parsed that it's impossible to remove the cubes. i suspect they work for the old-school ice tray lobby. nothing could be easier.

it is a little tricky to fill the tray and then carry it to the freezer without spilling. i put the tray in a rectangular pyrex pan and then put the whole thing in the freezer.

deducting a star as i see they have recently jacked the price from $6 to $10. c'mon man?

adding the 5th star again as Fred apparently read my review and came to his senses and lowered the price back down.

I have a tissue cover that is another of the Easter Island figures, so I had to have these ice cubes, and of course ever since "Night at the Museum" all I can think of when I see this statue is "Hey you Dum-Dum, you bring me gum-gum?". So the ice cubes have been a big hit at my house.

I found the best way to load the tray was to put it in the freezer first and then fill it from a measuring cup with a spout. Also, I washed my tray befor the first use with lots of soap and I never noticed a strange taste to the ice cubes. - Ice Cube Tray - Humor - Cocktail Accessories - Fun Cubes'
