WDJ does explain all of their reasons for selecting dog food companies and reasons why they disqualify companies. Reasons for disqualification include ingredients such as meat by-products, added sweeteners, artificial preservatives, such as BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin, artificial colors, etc ... WDJ also says that the giant corporations do a lot of research into their animal foods.

I've been subscribing to WHOLE DOG JOURNAL publication for years. It is a very holistic publication and I was introduced to it by my vet, who carries it in ALL of her exam rooms.



I don't agree with everything in it, but do feel it has great reviews on dog products & foods like a CONSUMER REPORTS (for dog owners) since it is entirely funded by subscriptions (no advertising). (It also has helpful contact info or websites at the end of each article.) My dogs have been helped by any number of articles.



There are also training articles, on a regular basis, as well as medical articles; herbs/acupuncture/gold bead implants/raw diets etc. They believe whole-heartedly in positive training methods & I don't argue with that, but I don't personally care for clicker training. (Not that you shouldn't try it, just I prefer to use physical & verbal praise.) You have to "fade off" the clicker - it can't go in the ring w/ you, but praise can always be used.



Now, WDJ is offering to send you frequent blog-type emailings (weekly) on tips & info, for being a subscriber, if you've given them an email address & don't opt out. They will also cite several helpful related WDJ articles on the topic, you can read online from past issues. Today's main email was on crate-training, but they also had how to develop Reliable Recalls. (I found some helpful tips I had forgotten, or overlooked, despite being in dogs for 25 years.) Nothing is more likely to save your dog's life, than a RELIABLE recall, IMO.

You can also look up ARCHIEVED articles on any subject they've EVER covered, if you are a subscriber. Example: articles in cancer treatments & special cancer diets.) So, if you've misplaced or thrown away an old article, or can't figure out when you read it, you can still find it. Or, if you start subscribing (now) you can get the benefit of everything they've covered, even when you weren't a subscriber. (It also means you can donate old issues <clutter?> if you need more space.)



I still think (after 10 years of being with them) that WDJ is the very BEST dog publication out there, bar NONE. If you only subscribe to one dog publication, this is the one to invest in, IMO. I am in no way affiliated w/ it, & have never submitted or published any articles in it.

This is one of the best publications on the market to teach about the different points of view out in the world about our 4 legged friends. Though it is called Whole "Dog" Journal - many of the articles apply to all our 4 legged friends and the 2 legged folks that care for them. Each year it does a review of the top pet foods on the market. DRY FOOD, WET FOOD, RAW FOOD, TREATS, etc. Everything you want to know about food. You will note in these articles that most of the most advertised brands are not in this list. I highly recommend you get this publication now -- it will be the best $$ you've spent in a long time.

I've subscribed to the WDJ for years and in almost every issue there is an article that I can use or apply to a canine situation I have. Their food reviews (although not Consumer Reports)provide much useful information to help you decide if you should change foods and what brands to try. I don't think some of major "natural" dog food manufacturers would seek to have their names on the top ten list if they didn't feel the WDJ reviews had real impact on their readers. I also thought the articles that educate the reader about specific parts of canine anatomy and physiology are very helpful to dog owners so we can spot potential trouble or be able to speak intelligently to our vets. I still think this is one of the best publications on natural foods and healthcare there is.

I've read this magazine for years, based on my vet's recommendation. At first I thought it was way expensive for a little "newsletter", not glossy, not in color...BUT I was wrong. The info you may learn in ONE issue could save you a lot of money in the long run. It is serious about it's mission, though not without humor. It does not carry any advertising at all, it is solely dependent on subscriptions. You will find in depth articles and reviews about pet foods, pet products, books, training (positive). Some well known dog trainers/authors are regular contributors (Patricia McConnell being a major one). It is illustrated as well. It comes pre punched with three holes so you can store them in a binder if you like. They have a great website as well, with special access for subscribers. It has also actually come down in price, and if you get more than one year it is cheaper (like most mags). HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you are serious about your dog's health and well being. It can be technical so if you don't like super in-depth, "serious" reading then you might not love this, but it's worth a look even if you think you may not like it, you could end up loving it, like me! - Dog Training - Dog Health - Dogs - Dog Magazine'

If you think you're getting the complete, original (1965) Get Smart series, make no mistake. The original series is still available only directly from Time-Life, and is still $199.95. (Update 10/08: Now scheduled for 11/4/08 availability from Amazon at discounted price!)



This is the brief (7 episode) Get Smart revival series which aired on Fox in 1995. The series brings back Don Adams (now chief of CONTROL), Barbara Feldon (now a congresswoman), and David Ketchum (Agent 13), but the main characters are now Max and 99's son Zack (Andy Dick) and his partner, Agent 66 (Elaine Hendrix).



I was pleasantly surprised that this series managed to maintain some of the character and humor of the original series -- especially the episode which brought back Bernie Kopell as Siegfried.



And I'm also pleasantly surpised to see this short-lived gem available on DVD.



But if you order it thinking you're getting the original series for under $20, you may be in for a surprise of a different sort. Get Smart: The Complete Series

Okay, the year was 1995. FOX broadcasting wanted to bring in a mid-season replacement, as they are known to do. Their decision? Dig up "Get Smart".



In this new series, Max is now the Chief of Control and 99, still his wife, is in Congress. His son, Zack, is a spy and teams up with Agent 66. (No mention is made of their other offspring, however.)



7 episodes were made.



Some of the benefits accorded the new series:

* Agent 0 -- played by a different actor each week, you never know when 0 appears.

* Most of the humor remains in the same spirit as the original

* Sharply written plots

* Good acting



Some of the downsides to this new series:

* Overtly sexual in many episodes; even the pilot has more innuendo than many of the subsequent episodes combined.

* "Casino Evil", a great story, is a rewrite of an original series plot. (I don't care much for rewrites, but this one did work.)

* Stopped after 7 episodes



Highlight episodes:

* Pilot (ep 1) -- Zack and 66 investigate KAOS' attempt to steal indestructible fabric. Ignore the innuendo, some of which does get chuckles; there's more to like than dislike in this premiere.

* "Casino Evil" (ep 2) -- Zack and 66 infiltrate a casino operated by KAOS.

* "Goodbye Ms. Chip" (ep 3) -- A KAOS agent kidnaps and brainwashes 66 to kill an ambassador.



* Wurst Enemies (ep 6) -- An old enemy of Max returns.

* "Liver Let Die" (ep 7) -- Zack and 66 infiltrate a KAOS hospital. This one is my favorite of the new series; it handled the dark concepts and humor immensely well.



I'm surprised this series has been scheduled for release, but am gratified. My VHS off-air tapings are falling apart. I do have more than a soft spot for this series, as despite being a newly commissioned series, a lot of it really gels together. It deserved more of a proper chance than to be axed.



Please check back later to get a rundown on DVD audio/video quality. It'll probably be very good.

Fox had a brilliant idea in bringing back this classic series. I was so excited that Get Smart was being brought back years later in an updated version. First, start with the surviving cast (Don Adams, Barbara Feldon -still gorgeous, David Ketchum, and even a guest shot by Bernie Kopell as the evil Sigfreid.) They also added the stunning (and funny) Elaine Hendrix as another CONTROL agent.

Their one fatal mistake was adding Andy "the unfunniest , most annoying man on Earth and appropriately named" Dick as 86 and 99's son Zack. In the original series Max and 99 had twins. So it could have been worse, with the aforementioned Mr. Dick playing a dual role. But had they cast someone more likeable, the series would have went on much longer. I even remember reading an interview with Andy Dick where he trashed the show when it first came out because he also had a role on Newsradio and wanted out of his contract.

So in what could have been a great reboot of the series, CONTROL was not vanquished by KAOS, but bad casting. And niceness did not triumph over evil on this sequel. Sorry about that Chief!

It still amazes me to this day why Andy Dick has a career. I've tried to watch him with other wonderful casts on Newsradio and Less Than Perfect, but have a very low tolerance level to his brand of humor. Well, to each his own, but he's ruined many a fine show for me. Let's hope his 15 minutes are up.

The main problem in following up a classic series is that fans who love the original---and thus, make up the bulk of TV viewership---can make or break a new series. After all, the name of the game among networks is the Ratings Game---if you don't have the high numbers, then it's bye-bye.

This is what seemed to have happened with "The New Get Smart", which never made it beyond its first seven episodes.

It's too bad that TNGS didn't catch on, because it held promise. Don Adams (who looked more fit & healthy here than five years earlier in the "Get Smart Again" TV-movie) and Barbara Feldon reprise their roles as Max & 99. Except this time around, things have changed: Max is the chief of CONTROL (Lord help us!) and 99 is a congresswoman with budget ties to her old organization. Actually, they are more of supporting characters for the newly-promoted antics of their son, Zachary Smart (a typically nerdy but likeable Andy Dick). Of course, Zach is just as bumbling as his Dad, but in Dick's own comic stylings. As history repeats itself, he is partnered with a beautiful, skilled & intelligent blond partner, Agent 66 (99 turned upside down..get it?), played by Elaine Hendrix.

Some new supporting players are included: Trudy, a ditzy secretary hired as a temp who thinks CONTROL is a talent agency (!!), a faceless femme-fatale now running the evil organization KAOS, Agent Zero (a master of disguise), and Agent 9 (who is really IS nine years old).

Even some old familiar faces pop up: Dave Ketchum reprises his role as Agent 13 (hiding in a bowl of cole slaw in one episode) and even Bernie Kopell guest stars as the nefarious Siegfried, unemployed by KAOS and exacting revenge on both Max & Zach.

I loved the hilarious opening credits for this series, a new variation on the old access-to-CONTROL theme, by using a car wash as cover. This series lacks the satirical zing of the old series, but it has its moments of loopy verbal comedy & goofy gadgets, 1990's style.

Who knows what this series could have accomplished if it continued? They were barely scratching the surface of Zach & 66's partnership-relationship.

TNGS is probably too obscure for the casual viewer, but definitely of interest to lovers of Get Smart. - Tv Series - Don Adams - Comedy - Classic Tv'

Battery Charger

I own a Ryobi 12-Volt cordless hand drill, whose battery charger died. Finding that Home Depot no longer carries any 12-V products (they've powered up to 18-V on everything), I checked Amazon and found what I thought was correct. The description stated that it charged ALL Ryobi 12-V batteries. Well, it doesn't. The probe end of the old batteries is a different shape than this charger. Had to return the charger (full refund) but then had to purchase a new drill ($79) and chuck the old one, which also had a great hand vac with it, but without a chargeable battery, it's useless. Although the status indicator on this charger never changes to "done", it may be due to the old batteries I am using. However, it does charge the batteries every time and for the price, it works flawlessly. I would recommend this charger to anyone who needs a replacement.

Although this is the product I wanted & it is a good product - I could unfortunately not use it! My husband requested the Ryobi charger but did not take into consideration that living in Australia we cannot use the same electrical products as in the USA! USA uses 110v & Australia 240v'

By far the best matte screen protector I have ever had on a device.



Pros.

Your finger glides across the surface and does not leave finger prints.

Reflections are almost non existent.

Installed near perfectly, with only two very small bubbles along the bottom edge. The only reason I have bubbles is because I grew impatient and rushed the install.



Cons.

Install is time consuming and can be very tricky to pull off perfectly.

Contrary to what they say, there is still some rainbow affect when viewing the screen. It is better then any matte protector I have used, but it is still there.



Other:

Watch videos on youtube about how to install this. With a protector that is this big, it is IMPOSSIBLE to not get dust under it when you are installing it. This dust can be removed though if you take your time and use tape removal method. I also absolutely recommend doing this in the bathroom with your shower running as hot as possible. Close bathroom door and windows, turn shower onto the hottest setting, let the windows fog up, and then do the install. SGP Motorola Xoom Screen Protector Steinheil Ultra Series [Ultra Fine]

Ok I was hesitant to jump on this purchase since it is a bit expensive. I initially thought there were more than 1 screen protector in this package, thats my fault I assumed & was wrong. So aside from being a bit irratated at myself for not catching it only comes with one screen this is by far the best screen I have seen. It was applied very simple & clean. I like how it covers the entire screen except the camera, my old screen protection only covered the screen & not bezel. So you for sure get what you pay for with this screen. Zero finger prints or smudge & easy application. Great screen protection * * * * *

I have not had good luck with most of the screen protectors out there and was leery about installing such a large one on my Xoom but the constant fingerprints on the glass made the decision easy. Took about 10 minutes to install and was very easy to go on. This protector is harder than the ones i've installed on my phones and I actually like it better than the bare glass. Fingers slide across the screen easier and it reduces fingerprints dramatically! Also cuts down on the glare a lot. Watch the video on the manufacturer's website for a quick demonstration and put one on your Xoom. It is important to do it in a clean environment with no wind, fan, etc. that can blow dust and small particles on the screen while you install. If it does happen, remove as demonstrated on the video and you'll have a crystal clear install. If the protector holds up, it will continue to be a 5 star purchase.

I have never been so dissapointed by a product. After putting numerous screen protectors on phones such as my current Droid X and after getting this product in the mail expecting the best. I did my research and watched some youtube videos after all this steinheil protector comes with no instructions. It does come with a rubber squigee, lint free cloth, and some tape for removing dust. So after spending thirty min. cleaning the screen holding xoom to the light getting it near perfect. I then took the backing off of just one end while starting that end on the tablet, in one motion pulling backing off and dropping protector on the xoom. Resulting in just one end with just a little dust. So no problem right I have the tape, Wrong. I took the tape and stuck to face in corner to give me something to pull it back up then taking another piece of the tape provided and starting on the dust only to have it leave a big clump of adhesive that after thirty minutes carefully removing just to find that now the screen won't stick it that area anymore. So twenty five dollars for a supposed to be superior product that is wasted, no instructions and cheap tape that leaves residue everywhere. Thanks for making a horrible product that people buy for a fancy envelope it comes in.

While the Steinheil protector does not curl up and stick to itself as other protectors tend to do, it ultimately was unusable because it attracts so much dust from the air. The instructions that are included with the protector are very sparse and say nothing about dust. There is a video on the web site showing an installation but it also fails to mention anything about dust. A web search before installation revealed numerous other people commenting on this problem and one had the clever suggestion of applying the protector in a bathroom where the shower had produced a lot of steam (to capture any dust in the air). I suspect that this helped but I was still left with numerous dust particles that were pulled in from the air. After over an hour of trying to remove them from the protector with the "sticky tape" that was included for this purpose I concluded that this had just been an expensive exercise in futility. I suspect that the quality and performance of the protector would have been good if it could be applied in a "clean room" but it seems that this product really can't be applied successfully out in the "real world". (It is amazing how much of a bubble in the protector is created by a tiny piece of dust and numerous dust particles means numerous bubbles all over the protector as it lays on the glass.) Once the dust is attached to the protector it can't be "scraped" to the side and attempts to lift the protector to remove the dust with sticky tape just allows another piece of dust to stick somewhere else. I suspect this is just the nature of a protector that's designed to be attracted to the glass surface and will occur with similar products so unfortunately I can't give this any starts at all since I had to give up and throw it away. (Force to give it at least one star!)

Great product and great support, went on almost as easily as a phone protector. Took ten minutes, 7 of which were spent mainly prepping room and a little on surface, not one bubble or spec of dust. Comes with large cloth and squeegee worth saving, but you should still be sure to clean glass with alcohol(I used eye glass wipes because they were handy at time) . Next time I might go with Ultra Crystal because of stylus feel on flat/texture surface, if you use finger this is the one to get though. I let my HEPA/UV-B (3 micron) filter run in bathroom for 10/15 minutes before running shower with no vent/fan for 5 minutes to steam room. After steam settles few minutes bring Xoom in, clean surface again, open protector, peel back little of short side, align spacing perfect, use squeegee to bond/work bubbles out, then continue down peeling backing off slowly, making sure still aligned and taking time to get all air bubbles out. Nose - uplifting, accessories

It kinda works, but it takes a while. At least a few weeks to notice a *slight* difference. Even so, I think it was worth it. It made my nose slightly slimmer and more defined, but that's only because I've been looking at my nose so much in the mirror. The differences are very very slight. Keep that in mind before you buy this. It will not change your nose significantly like surgery. More like gradually slim the cartilage on your nose over the course of months.

I purchased the nose clip four months ago and I am impressed with the results so far. I had been using it consistently for about 3 months and the shape of my nose improved a lot. My nose was round and wider than I would have liked but with using the clip it has a better shape to it. It works!

I just like t for the silliness factor. It's worth buying. Put your hair in giant pink sponge curlers, apply an avocado mask, place this on your nose and head out to the Supermarket in a neon pink mu-mu and fuzzy slippers.



Oh, and I did try to use it, but it made my nose hurt and lose circulation after about 10 minutes. I don't see how this would do anything positive, except maybe in a psychosomatic way.



EDIT: I have found that if I clamp this on to the top of the bridge of my nose it can relieve a tension headache.

I wouldn't know if this is any good, they didn't send it. They sent something, not what is pictured, and it's in Japenese so I can't even imagine what it is. Don't buy anything from these people. This is a really big rip-off.

My mom brought this to make her nose less wide. She's being using this for about, I think, 3 months? So she's being asking me to tell her if I see a difference and do I see a difference? Nope not at all...

She starting using it for 15 mins a day, then 30. I still didn't see a difference.

I wonder why this thing gets a lot of good reviews if it doesn't work...

But oh well... :)

I purchased this, due to my flat nose (LOL) and moreover the fact I was NOT going to get surgery done. I wanted a little lift and that is exactly what I got. I was extremely skeptical after reading the reviews, but I decided to try it, since I know everyone is different and I was glad that's what I did. My nose definitely changed it's shape and my boyfriend is loving it (even though he has no idea what I did!) and so am I. I only gave it 4 stars, because it takes a while for results, but like I said, everyone is different. I also got my nose pierced a bit after I got this product, so I had to stop using it. Overall, it's nice.

You need it several week to see its effectiveness.



The grip is not to tight that is why you need to add a bit pressure when clamping your nose bone.



i'll keep on using this and see the final results.

Ridgid Jointer Blades

I ordered the Freud C400 6-1/8-by-11/16-by-1/8-Inch Jointer Knives as a replacement for my 1950s era Craftsman Jointer. They arrived promptly and in excellent condition.

I had a little difficulty in installing them due to the fact that they were actually 6-3/16 inches long instead of the advertised 6-1/8. Other dimensions were accurate. I was able to install them and they are performing satisfactorily, however the extra length does not allow any freedom in installation which will shorten their life by not allowing me to shift position slightly when the inevitable nicks occur.

I will try another manufacturer next time with the hope that they will be closer to the advertised dimensions. Freud C400 6-1/8-by-11/16-by-1/8-Inch Jointer Knives, 3-Pack

Bought these knive to replace the ones in my ridgid jointer! right out of the box they had a curl on them and needed to be honed! Should have sent them back but I needed them immediately. After only an hour or so of use they are completely curled over and so dull they chatter the wood. Very dissapointed in the product, spend the money and get a good set if you plan on using them at all!

Needed replacements for my ridgid jointer. These look identical and are exactly the same dementions. They are razor sharp and mount in there perfectly. Have not had a chance to try them yet but I have Freud blades in my table saw and router and they hold up great so I would expect the same from these. I have learned not to be too hard on jointer blades. Don't cut deeper than you have to and check your blades often. I didn't bother to check them till I was getting bad cuts and was amazed at how badly I had worn them down.

A friend of mine brought over a Sears 6 1/8 jointer he found in the garbage. It was covered in rust and the motor was missing. I decided to rebuild it at almost the cost of a new one. Sears wanted $36.99 for the blades plus shipping and tax. I decided to take a chance on these blades for $17.11 from Amazon. The blades are a perfect match to the old blades. If you have a Sears 6 1/8 Jointer Model#113206931, these blades will fit, but always measure the size of the old blades to be sure. Since Sears made several different models of jointers.

I restored an old Craftsman 6" jointer I inherited from a friend of the family and I was surprised to find the exact replacement knives from Freud. This jointer is an early 1950's model and with the new knives leaves as good a finish as I good possibly want. Excellent product as are all of the Freud products I have.

I used these on my Ridgid JP0610 Jointer and they are at least as good as the blades that came with the unit. They already have little nicks in them, which is about what the stock blades did too. For the price they are very reasonable. If you want basically the same blades that came with your Ridgid, these work fine. They are not an upgrade, but may very well be the most cost effective solution. I bought a couple sets to make sure I don't run out again. As always they were shipped promptly and arrived on time and un damaged.'

I wanted to view streaming video from my PC on my HDTV Plasma TV. But the only video output my PC had was VGA. My internet search suggested the PC To TV Video Converter Box Adapter. It was easy to install, came with all the cables required and worked out of the box. The only problem I had was that the display was only in black & white. I sent an email to the customer support team and received a reply the next day. They were able to supply me with a simple solution (a dip switch toggle solved the problem) and now the video is displayed in beautiful full color.
