Family Game - crafts, craft kits

My kids (9 and 6) loved this! They cut out all of the designs, took turns choosing their favorites to color, and we had them shrinking down in the oven in no time. They were able to attach all of the hooks, etc in order to hang them on the spooky tree. Now we have an awesome Halloween decoration displayed in the house that they are so proud of. It didn't take them much time at all to get this done - I was hoping for the project to take a bit longer. But, they loved it and had a blast doing it. Shrinky Dinks Halloween Fun

It was a cool night and the kids didn't have school the next day. The wind was howling and the sky was black. We were in the mood and it was finally the right time to pull out the Shrinky Dinks Halloween Fun.

We cut the pictures out and took turns picking our favorites. The kids, age 6 and 11, spent quite some time coloring in their pictures, paying close attention to the details. Frankie had a green face, his bride was white, our devil was bright red. Pumpkins, skeletons, bats and witches were all decked out using the colored pencils (provided) -- black, white, green, brown, purple, red, orange, and yellow.

Also included are a pencil sharpener, a mini hole-punch and all the loops and bands you'll need for hanging everything on the tree.

The tree is black flocked cardboard, not designed to withstand a ton of abuse but it should hold up for years if stored carefully.

There are 24 items to color as well as an 8 piece skeleton.

The pieces go into the oven (we use our toaster oven) on a baking sheet with a little baby powder to prevent sticking. It is fun to watch them curl up, shrink rapidly and flatten out about 20% of their original size. It still amazes me when I watch! You have to watch carefully because ours were done within one minute each time but the instructions say it can take a couple of minutes. They can be brittle when they are done so if yours is not flat, either live with it or put it back in to see if it will flatten out the rest of the way. Make sure you punch a hole in all of the pieces before you bake them. It will be impossible to do so after they are baked.

Our pieces came out really well, the color gets more vibrant once they are baked and little mistakes go away. We then hung them on the tree and proudly displayed it for the holiday season.

Overall, it took about 1½ -2 hours from start to finish with three of us working on it.

A fun gift or project for all ages. Highly recommended! I think I'll be ordering the Shrinky Dinks Holiday Fun next!

I purchased two of these items--one for me (to relive my childhood and do it by decorating for my favorite holiday) and one for two kids that I am close to. In both cases the kit was a success.

Pros

The kit includes colored pencils and a sharpener, as well as a hole punch to punch out the holes for the ornaments. It also contains all of the metal pieces to attach to the ornaments, and the bands to hang them on the tree. The tree itself is velvety and surprisingly sturdy. It won't crease or break when I store it for use next year. The variety in ornaments is pretty neat, too. There are a lot of options, and none are the gory "scary" type. They are safe for kids of all ages in terms of the pictures.

Cons

The ornaments are not pre-cut. They also are not pre-punched. If you're not careful, you'll end up doing what I did and forget to punch a few of the holes and have to find a way to drill one in after baking. Otherwise, this kit is great, and the price here is excellent!

This was such a great buy. We were going on a trip to visit family and this was the perfect packable craft project. All you need is an oven (okay that won't work if you're staying in a hotel, but we weren't). The kids had so much fun coloring all the shrinky dinks and then watching them in the oven and then assembling the tree. It was compact enough to pack back home with and set up at home. Now it's a great reminder of our trip and a super cute halloween decoration.

I had shrinky dinks when i was a kid and wanted my daughter to have the same experience. This is a great little set and it's exactly as pictured on the box. My only complaint is that the instructions were a little lacking, for instance the directions didn't indicate what temperature to set the oven on or how long to leave them in the oven.

Bought for an 8 year old, the whole family made a shrinky dink and decorated the tree, it's sitting on a book shelf in a bedroom and it looks great. We spent time at the table, everyone was included, an easy fun fast project and cost was well worth it! We are going to look for others to do. - Easy - Family Game - Crafts - Craft Kits'
