Experimental Music - free mp3, ambient

This is one of the best freebies I've downloaded from Amazon. Most of the tracks are very good, almost hypnotic. The only gripes are "Inch Worm," which I tried listening to 3 times and I just can't get into it. A very strange song. The other may not be a gripe so much as a peculiarity, but "A Pigeon Named Crow" seems a bit out of place, but is a great song in and of itself. It sounds like it was recorded in an intimate poetry coffeehouse setting and is an interesting song. It just seems like it should be on another album. And yes, the album does seem to shift from alternative to a sort of world music as it continues, but if you're willing to go where it leads you may not be disappointed. Overall this is one of Amazon's best samplers and you can't beat the price. Projekt: afar

I've downloaded many freebie albums from Amazon. Most are of ordinary quality, not terrible, but not extraordinary either... destined to be heard maybe once and then forgotten. This one, however, stands out well ahead of the others. It's got just the right balance of being dark, hypnotic, and relaxing. That's what I need to unwind after some days.I will be sure to search the names of the artists on this sampler, and possibly buy some of their albums. So, if the purpose of this free sampler is to get these artists noticed and increase their fan base, consider it a success.

1. When I'm Wrong - Weep == Reminds me of some random 90's drone rock; a nice beat and melody. Gets more catchy as it goes along.

2. Falling Deeper - Makaras Pen == Abrasive. Couldn't last the first 5 seconds , skipped on, will never re-listen.

3. Inch Worm - Black Tape For A Blue Girl == Interesting music and lyrics

4. The Ice King - The Twilight Garden == Meh. More drone/goth crossover retro-ness, skipped on.

5. Wallflower - Lovesliescrushing == long slow discordant drone intro, moving on.

6. A Pigeon Named Crow - Slow acoustic number, lyrics not bad, but nothing special, was about to skip on, but saw there's only 30 seconds left, how bad can they be? turns out it's all meh.

Couldn't make it through the rest, and if your tastes match mine, you probably stopped listening to the album at the second skipped track. This whole album is like some sort of flashback to an early 90's goth night party. Consistent in style, nothing outstanding from the genre.

All were interesting , but not acoustically or emotionally satisfying. I did not even complete listening to most of them. The only redeeming factor is that they were free. I did like the more exotic international flavor of the last 2 selections. - Ambient - Ambient Music - Free Mp3 - 90s'
