Pre-kindergarte - step 2, sandbox

We purchased after a prior small (3' by 3') sand box was broken in a move. Living in an apartment, we only have small patio space to put our outdoor toys on, and because my son is older now (4) we opted for the table rather than sand box. So far, after having it outside for one month with several rainy days, we've experienced no leaking like other reviewers mentioned. It's great for building sand castles, digging tunnels, etc. My only complaint is that it's a bit shallow (about 4" deep), but this doesn't really stop the fun.

The upside is that is holds one 50 lb. bag of sand, about $4-6 worth. Just a side note: make sure when you are purchasing sand that it is play-grade, and silica-free. Home Depot's store brand of play sand does have silica, you will know that it has silica if there are cancer warnings on the bag. Lowe's offers Silica-free play sand at $5/50 lb. bag.

The bucket and scoops that are included are fun too. Step2 Naturally Playful Sand Table

We bought this sand table for our three-year-old not to fill with sand but with dried beans so we could use it indoors. We had been filling cookie sheets with beans so his diggers and dump trucks could have an excavation site, but we were constantly picking up dried beans from the floor. This was to be our solution. Well, we're still picking beans up from the floor, but the table is a big hit. It was the favorite activity at our son's three-year-old birthday party when we were confined indoors due to hot and humid weather. I'm sure it will work well if you use it as intended--outdoors and with sand. It's very well built, as we've found all the products in the Naturally Playful Step 2 line to be. The top fits very snugly. I will add that I balked at paying $20-something in shipping charges, so we bought this table directly from the Step 2 web site. It arrived in three days, via Fed Ex, and the shipping charges were less than $10 (I don't remember the exact amount). (I wasn't able to find it in any stores, only online.)

I bought this for my daughter's 2nd birthday and she LOVES it. She spends 30 minutes or more playing with the sand. The problem is, the sand gets wet when it rains. We are diligent about securing the lid but the sand still gets wet. Poor design on the corners - no lip around the edges on the corners allows water to get in.

After countless hours of research, we finally broke down and purchased this sandbox. It has a pretty solid construction, it took a few tries to get the legs in during assembly, but that is all the assembly that is required. It is pretty sturdy and doesn't shake or wobble. This sand box is not going anywhere anytime soon. It comes with a cover which is secured by two elastic hoops. So far it has managed to keep bugs and animals out, but it is not water proof. After a good rain I opened it to find the sand inside had become damp. It managed to keep the majority of the rain out so it is not filled with water. To be honest, the damp sand is better to play with. We are pleased with the purchase and would recommend this product to anyone.

It a perfect size my toddler daycare kids. They could play with Naturally Playful Sand Table all day long. Much less mess than a sand box because kids don't sit in it. I did add more cups and small toys for added fun. I love the top makes it safe for strays cats to NOT use as their little box. The bands that close very tight. Strong wind didn't blow it off last night. For $42 you really can't beat that price. I also got Water Wheel Play Table these go great together. LOVE IT! A must for parents and caregivers of toddlers!

Well made EXCEPT holes in cover for elastic tie-downs are in such a position that rain water flows through holes and directly into sand! Fortunately this defect is easily corrected by filling holes with Silicone Caulking made for exterior use.

I bought this sandbox to keep on our back deck for when my 18 month old grandson comes to visit. It is the perfect size for the back deck and just the right size for him. My only complaint is that even with the lid on, when it rains alot of water can still get into the sand from where the lid attaches to the base. Otherwise I would highly recommend this prooduct!!

The only thing wrong with this toy is that when it rains, it collects water in it. Which will eventually blend with the sand so you don't need to add water for building castles etc. Just don't really like that the water puddles in it making a mess of slop.

My 4 year old has been playing with this since he was 1 years old. He absolutely LOVES it and the novelty has not worn off. It is sturdy, well made and withstands rough play. We keep it on the deck and he even plays with it all winter long! Hours and hours of fun! We add water sometimes to make mud pies and it dries out pretty quickly for the next sand use. We've had no trouble with leaking.
