Usb Female To Female

Like Robert said, this is a crossover male-to-male adapter. In other words, you can't use this to make one long cable out of two shorter ones. I can't think of any USB application where crossover would be helpful - the standard doesn't support that type of network topology. USB A Female / A Female Adaptor / Coupler

Tried using it but it wouldn't work with any device I hooked up, instead of sending it back because it wasn't cost effective I took it apart. The adapter was wired in reverse just like a computer crossover cable. Must have been made in China. Trashed it.

I need something to allow me to connect a USB Gooseneck Light to my Kindle 3. The Kindle has only a MINI-USB port (I THINK that's what it's called) - it's a USB port, but SMALLER than a "normal" USB port. I could PHYSICALLY connect the USB Light to the Kindle by using this adapter and the cord that came with the Kindle ("regular size" male USB plug on one end, "mini size" male USB plug on the other end).

But...the light does not come on! I assume that possibly the Kindle mini USB port does not put out enough power to light the light - does the USB light require a certain amount of power to work, and the mini USB port does not provide that? Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here (no pun intended)?

And, can anyone tell me what "adapter" I need, to do what I'm trying to do (short of paying $70 for the "official" Kindle cover with light)?

Thanks for any help!

UPDATE: It just occured to me - maybe this item is DEFECTIVE and THAT is the reason that it doesn't work. I have no way of knowing. I hope someone can help me.'
