This ballast appears to be a good quality product. I expect many years of service from it. It installed very easily although it was a different length than my original ballast. Most fluorescent lighting fixtures allow for easy ballast replacement with one stationary (set) hold-down clip and variable screw holes to match the various ballasts that may be used. One thing I was a little disappointed about is the "rapid" start is not immediate but still within a second to light.
I chose a T12 ballast because I still have many F40 fluorescent bulbs but...I recommend changing to the newer T8 standard. So, if you need to change your ballast, you can convert to the more efficient T8 ballast and get new bulbs to match. One more bit of information is the T8 bulb is thinner and more fragile. The previous owner had installed inexpensive garage lights which have always flickered and seemed like they were barely able to come on. They also buzzed loudly and seemed to go through bulbs faster than usual. When one of them finally went out completely I took it apart expecting to find "normal" ballast to replace and instead it had these tiny transformers at each end and capacitors (wired in). So I ripped out all that and replaced it with this one ballast and it works great! It comes on instantly, make no noise at all and the same bulbs are brighter in this fixture than the others. There was no room to mount the ballast inside but since the fixtures hang by a chain there is room to mount it on top - not exactly UL approved perhaps but many time cheaper than buying a new fixture of this quality. - Fluorescent Ballast Replacement - Light Ballast - Lighting Accessories'
