I highly reccomend these bottles. I used them to bottle my very first batch of beer and they worked out great! Made bottling a snap. Like most bail/flip-cap bottles I have purchased you need to assemble the tensor, however these are easier to assemble than many others.
Make certain that the cap is on the correct side then seat one wire and the other wire will slip on with a slight pressure.
The bottles work great and hold an excellent seal. My only complaint is that the bottles come without the stopper mechanism attached to the bottle. That turned out to be a lengthy and somewhat difficult task.
As an avid brewer, I can never have enough of these. A perfect gift for any home brewer. The thick brown glass holds up well against the common bumps and hits. Flip top stopper pretty much guarantees a solid seal every time. Much simpler to use than the metal caps and the gaskets are easily replaceable. The smooth surface holds stick on labels better than the textured Grolsch bottles.
Other reviewers found the flip cap difficult to mount. I bought a case for my husband's beer kit and he didn't think it was that hard. Made it easy for him to bottle since the flip caps could be closed one-handed.
I bought these bottles for the secondary ferment of kombucha tea and water kefir. They are working quite well. The lids seal pretty tightly. The bottles feel reasonably heavy duty. After doing some research, I found these bottles are also quite a good price for a bottle with good reviews, considering the free shipping. I will probably pick up another dozen!
i got these for my boyfriend's birthday. i liked the vintage looking style. it took about 3 weeks to arrive and when they did 2 were broken. i called the company and they were so nice! they sent me my 2 bottles plus and extra and only took a week to arrive. my boyfriend was thrilled to get these!!! i will always recommend ordering anything from the Strange Brew company, great customer service!!!
The bottles arrived promptly and were a decent deal. HOWEVER I didn't realize there was some assembly required. The caps were not attached to the bottles when they arrived, which was actually a pretty big pain. They're difficult to get on. We finally figured out by seating one side of the wire housing and then using pliers to pull the other side into place they'd snap in securely. Might be my own fault for not realizing we'd need to do this ourselves (was it in the product description? ) but I'm dinging the product a star for requiring assembly. Other than that, they seem to be good bottles at a decent price and we've seen no issues with the seals so far after one batch of beer. I'd purchase them again.
Two months later: we have had some sealing problems. I've taken off another star for that. It's possible the tops were simply not seated correctly, but I'm worried the seals are just not very high quality. - Homebrewing - Home Brewing - Bottles'
