I have had good luck with an Iomega MiniMax 320 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400 Desktop External Hard Drive that I use with my Apple Mac mini MB463LL/A Desktop so I thought I would give this Iomega 34508 eSATA DVR 1TB Expander Drive a try with my DirecTV HD DVR HR-20. The HR-20 is a silver DirecTV HD DVR and not like the newer all black DirecTV HR21/HR22/HR23 which I have one as well. It works great with the extra storage. As anyone who likes to use the DVR for HD content knows, the drive on the DirectTV gets full very fast. I had to keep deleting recorded programs. This Iomega 34508 eSATA DVR 1TB Expander Drive replaces your existing DirecTV Drive so you will not be able to access your existing programs you recorded on the DirecTV HD DVR. It basically steps in "front of the line" of the DirecTV drive but does not delete those programs on DirecTV. I suggested that you watch all your programs you want before you install the Iomega drive. You will not be able to access those DirecTV recordings while the Iomega 34508 eSATA DVR 1TB Expander Drive is connected.



The good news is that an eSata cable comes with the Iomega drive and it works fine. It is not that long - maybe 3 feet but it is not a problem where I have it. I will probably return the 6.6 foot SIIG CB-SA0211-S1 6.6-Feet Serial ATA External Cable that I purchased in addition to the Iomega drive.



I just followed the instructions by unplugging my DirecTV DVR for 10-60 seconds before hooking up the Iomega 34508 eSATA DVR 1TB Expander Drive and plugging in the power for the Iomega drive and then the power for the DirecTV HD DVR. After the DirecTV came back up from searching for a satellite signal, everything was there. I believe some of the shows I wanted to record came up in the menu search after a while since it takes a little time for all the shows to get populated into the menu.



I recommend this for DirecTv HD DVR owners as a great lower cost solution to the Western Digital and Seagate versions of this item. Iomega 34508 eSATA DVR 1TB Expander Drive

Installation instructions were short and effective. I had to reboot my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD a few times to get it to work, which I blame on my DVR's quirky software. The first reboot yielded a question, would I like to format the drive? That complete, it took another reboot for my percent free space to increase massively. This is a simple, inexpensive fix to a DVR storage problem.

Received the Iomega DVR expander from Amazon, registered it online, and performed a "by the book" installation. This is my third device of this type, first Iomega, so the procedure was familiar. The SA8300HD asked if I wanted to format the drive. I said OK. No confirmation of any type. After about 45 mins of no discernable activity, I rebooted the DVR. When it did not recognize the new drive, I rebooted several more times. Iomega chat support suggested a slightly different sequeence of install events. This resulted in a "drive is bad" message from the DVR. Iomega chat support had nothing more to offer other than a "refurbished" replacement of the product.

Installed as a DVR expander on a DirecTV HR20-700 DVR.



Instructions were clear... simply power off DVR, plug in the included 3ft eSATA cable, power up the drive then power up the DVR.



DVR then starts up and formats the new drive (about 15 seconds).



This drive takes over as the new Hard Drive for all recordings and the other drive vanishes (as expected and documented). That said, all of your searches, lists and recording schedules are not available and you must reset them. Also, because you are starting fresh, it takes awhile for the guide to fill in.



Records with the quality of the original and has the same response time.



Only a nit but wish they had put the power LED in the front instead of toward the back.



About a day old but happy so far and looking forward to NOT having to delete things all the time as I did with the standard drive.

November 23rd update... could not be happier. Solid performance... have four full NFL games, three full length movies, several tv series episodes and still tones of room.

Many of the reviews mention the Scientific Atlanta 8300 but do not address the 8300 HDC. I have been using this Iomega with the 8300 HDC for about a month and I love it. It installed in less than 5 minutes using the very simple instructions and everything has recorded just as it should since then. It works with the Scientific Atlanta interface and immediately showed that my recording space went from almost full to less than 10% as soon as the installation was complete. Playback has been excellent. The info with this Iomega says that it is designed to work with certain Scientific Atlanta DVR's only. I take that to mean that this will not work with TiVo, etc. - Cable - Dvr - High Definition - Esata'

An excellent replacement for the standard issued laptop cord. I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 and at first I was hesitant to buy from anyone but Toshiba. But I took a chance and it paid off; I ended up saving quite a bit of money for the risk. The cord is a little shorter than the standard but what's cool is that the cord part that goes into the computer swivels! Not so much strain on that part. But yeah it fits and works. If you are in need of one but cant shell out the money for the Toshiba store, buy this. I tried to find a replacement at the big box stores and couldn't find anything less than $50 and all were in a universal configuration. It works and it arrived quick. Even though the back of my Toshiba Satellite A205 showed 19V @ 3.95A, the 19V 3.42A adapter works fine and I have had no problems.

I bought this as a replacement for the power supply that came with my Toshiba Satellite, and I wish this had come with the laptop instead of the original. Designing this with an elbow right where it attaches to the laptop is perfect. The first one stopped working because the wire got loose from getting jammed and bent all the time since it stuck straight out from the computer. This cord provides more protection for itself, and it never gets in the way.



No issues with it working so far. So glad I bought this! Actually, I'd recommend considering buying one of these even if your current Toshiba power supply works fine. It's just better.

I received the adapter, hooked it up to my computer and plugged it in to charge,

after 30 minutes or so it started smoking and smelled like it was burning, I immediately unplugged it. The top of the adapter box had a melted spot and i burned my hand on it while unplugging it, fortunately it did not damage my computer or the wood surface it was on. Thankfully I was in the same room or it would have started a major fire in my home. I sent an email to the supplier they never responded. The least they could have done was offer to replace it!

There's not much to say other then it works. It charges my computer as fast or maybe faster than my original charger. I actually prefer this charger over my stock charger that came with my computer because the male end of the cord immediately goes to a 90 degree angle so my cord isn't sticking straight out of the side of my laptop thus it feel more durable. And my not break like my previous stock laptop charger.

After the original power supply failed, I found this one for a very good price and with good reviews.



Pros: Price, the "L" shaped plug is a big advantage.

Con: The indicator light is BRIGHT green. Bright, as in if facing up, it will light up the end of a room. Also, the cord is about a foot shorter than the factory cord.

In the past, I bought a Transcend 8GB SDHC card for my Canon SD1000 camera. I recently bought the Transcend 16GB SDHC for my new Canon SX20IS. Both cards work very well and I've had no problems with it so far. I wanted to take this opportunity to update my review since my original review was also posted (by Amazon) for the 16GB card. This is because the only difference between these two cards is the different capacity. So, if you're in the market for an affordable high quality SDHC card, this may be the one for you. Sorry, I kind of sounded like a used car salesman right there, didn't I? I assure you that I don't work for Transcend. But, here's why I think this card is awesome:



Pros:



-Affordable!



-Large capacity



-Class 6 read/write speed (which is very fast... but is no longer the fastest class available)



-Lifetime warranty (at least that's what the package says :)



-Transcend is a reputable company that's been making memory products for a very long time. ( I swear to the tech Gods that I don't work for them!) Other reputable and reliable memory card companies include Kingston and PNY. All three of these companies have been making memory chips for many, many years.





Cons:



- I can' really think of any "Cons" about this card. But here's the 2 closest things I can come up with right now: (1) "Class 6" is no longer the fastest speed available and (2) This card does NOT make coffee for you in the morning, do your dishes for you, give you compliments when you're having a bad day, or magically improve your photography skills.









IMPORTANT SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT SDHC MEMORY CARDS:



-SDHC cards are not compatible with most older SD cameras, SD devices, or SD card readers.



-SDHC cards are rated by speed using different "classes". There are currently 4 data transfer speed classes available for SDHC cards. These classes are "class 2, class 4, and class 6, and the new class 10. For example, "Class 2" would have the slowest read/write speed while "Class 6" has the fastest read/write speed. So if you have a device in which speed may play a crucial role, make sure you buy a higher "class" SDHC card. Please note that this SDHC card no longer has the fastest read/write speed available. There is now a new class, called "Class 10". Class 6 has a minimum read/write speed of 6MB/sec... while Class 2 has minimum speed rating of 2MB/sec, and Class 4 is 4MB/sec. Starting to see the pattern?





SO WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "SD CARDS" AND "SDHC CARDS?



SDHC is basically an upgrade to the older SD cards. The reason they upgraded it was to achieve greater data transfer speeds AND capacity than previously possible with normal SD cards... and to do this, they had to redesign the card (which is why it's not compatible with normal SD devices). This was necessary because digital cameras and digital video cameras these days have higher resolutions, which equate to larger file sizes and faster data transfer needs.



Now that many digital cameras also can record HD video, you may consider getting a larger capacity card because video takes much more space than photos. The size of the video varies from camera to camera depending on what resolution and video compression the camera uses. If you plan on taking lots of video (especially HD video), I would consider getting at least a 16GB card. Check your camera specifications to see how many minutes per Gig of memory your camera can capture ...to gauge how big of a memory card you'll want to get to meet your needs.



Special Note on regular SD Cards:

If you primarily take casual photos and don't need a exceptionally fast read/write capable card, you should know that newer cameras that take "SDHC" cards will also work with older normal "SD" cards. These older cards are cheaper than the new SDHC cards, so this may be something to consider. So to sum things up, newer cameras will take SDHC and regular SD cards, but older cameras that use SD cards may not be able to use SDHC cards. This is because newer technology is usually made to be compatible with older technology (the technical term used to describe this is "backwards compatibility") ... but older technology may not have the hardware necessary to run newer tech (technical term used is "obsolete"... just kidding! ;)



I hope I haven't confused everybody by going into this much detail, but I can't help being the nerd that I am. If you are confused, don't hesitate to comment on this post and I will try my best to answer your questions. Also, any feedback is always welcome!

UPDATE - March 2, 2010: This review was originally written for the 4 GB class 6 SDHC card, but the reviews have been grouped for all class 6 SDHC cards in the 4, 8, 16 and 32 GB sizes. All the cards should perform similarly since they are all class 6 and all made by Transcend. However, I will have to check which cards I have used hands on. I believe I only own the 4GB and 8GB cards. I will update the review further. If you have concerns regarding the 16GB or 32GB sizes, you should seek out the reviews tagged with the product links from those cards.





The Transcend 4GB SDHC CARD (Class 6) is a great card for the price. I was at first a little skeptical about the brand, but I buy way too many memory cards to ignore a good price when I see one. And I'm happy to report that I've experienced decent performance and reliability issues with this card. That's as compared to other cards I own including SanDisk, PNY and Kingston.



As long as your devices are compatible with the SDHC format, this card is a good buy. 4 GB is a nice size though I do prefer 8 GB capacity for high capacity storage.



The class 6 speed is the fastest speed available in mass market SDHC cards. Class 6 guarantees minimum transfer speeds of 6 MBs, but I've gotten speeds up to 20Mbs! That makes this card perfect for storing pictures in RAW image formats.



The Class 6 speed is on par with the Sandisk Extreme III cards that on average are about $15 to $20 more per card. If you don't have an SDHC reader, you may opt to get the package with a reader included to download your pics. If not you can just transfer your pics directly from your camera with your card still inserted. An SDHC card reader can be bought separately if your PC doesn't have a compatible slot.



General SDHC and SD Card Tips



There are a few tips that I've learned the hard way through buying TOO MANY different memory cards.

1. Make sure your device is compatible with the card! Even in regular SD cards, some older electronics aren't compatible with that large of a size (2 GB). In terms of SDHC cards, make sure your camera or other device is SDHC compatible. SDHC is different from regular SD and only newer devices tend to have built-in compatibility

2. Once you install this in your camera or device, you will generally want to format the card with your compatible device's interface. That is because the standard formats for certain devices, particularly Canon, are different from the factory installed format

3. Just like your devices, most computer SD card readers are not compatible with the SDHC format. So use a card reader or download the pictures via USB connection to the camera with the card still installed.

4. For some reason, placing the card in the locked position allows some older laptops to still read it. This is just to be used in a pinch however, and it won't apply to all systems

5. If you did not properly format your card, you may be able to save things to it and then have them "disappear." If this happens to you, make sure you use the software recovery tools BEFORE you try to save anything else to your card. That way, you can retrieve your images without over-writing them.

6. Make sure you know what you are going to use this card for. Once you have set up everything and ensured it's all compatible, you still have to decide on speed. If you are using this for storing RAW images instead of JPEGs or HD video, step up to the faster class 6 speed format if you can afford it.

7. If you are going to pay more for a faster speed, make sure your device can benefit from it. I've read, for example, that Kodak cameras are set to a fixed voltage and cannot go faster than standard speed. So the extra cash spent on Class 4, 5, or 6 is basically wasted.



Conclusion



It's great to have several extra cards on hand just in case. This 4 GB card is a nice performer. If you have a high capacity camera (10 Megapixels or more) and are storing videos or RAW images, the extra cash for the 8GB card is worth it. Or you may want to step up to the larger 16 GB size that is now available.

So I bought these seeing they had a decent rating, and the reviews seemed good enough. The day arrives when my package is delivered, and I get to use them for the first time. I start to turn, and instantly bits of the tips are broken off, rendering it useless. The quality of these screwdrivers are so poor, they're worthless. They look nice with the wide body, but they quality is cheap and I'd expect to find these at the dollar store. Don't waste you money on these. SE 6pc Mini Screw Driver Set With Carrying Case

This item is perfect for replacing the RAM in any MacBook Pro computer. At first I thought the black tops of each piece were loose and was a little upset. But once I used the item I realized why the black part spins. When you have these drivers cupped in your hands it allows you to spin the driver and turn it around with ease and without having to constantly reset your grip. They are also magnetic which was wonderful for the tiny itty bitty screws I was dealing with. The little case is wonderful, though a tad flimsy, and folds back and tucks behind perfectly and out of the way! I am very impressed and happy with this product. Thank you Amazon for another good one and at a great price!

This set was ordered on Thursday night Christmas Eve and we received it on Monday early afternoon. It was so fast I could not believe it. Along with the set is perfect. The screw driver head is magnetic and it is very easy to use.

This is a nice small toolset. I love the box - keeps everything together. The small screw drivers are quite well shaped and fit quite well in hands. I like the fact that they are magnetically tipped, so they hold on to the small screws.

I was looking for small phillips head screwdrivers to reassemble my ps3 controller and this is exactly what i needed, not only that it was affordable and comes in a very clever case....overall fenominal

After shopping around on Amazon for a mini screwdriver I settled on this inexpensive little set, and so far the pieces have been great. I purchased these mainly for getting into my laptop, and was not let down. The magnetized ends were especially perfect for working with tiny laptop screws. The case itself is a bit shoddy, but it works and the price was right. If you need a mini screwdriver set for working with electronics all day every day, these are not the highest quality products to use and probably not for you, but if you need to be able to tinker around from time to time to clean out or replace parts in your electronic devices, I'd say you can't beat this set for price and functionality.

Pros

--Strong build. They hold up better than most jeweler's screwdrivers. Granted, you will probably strip these earlier than a full-sized screwdriver, but this is for tiny screws and given the price they are holding up much better than competitors.

--Good grip. Easier to turn than most jeweler's screwdrivers. Most other screwdrivers that are this size you need to get a clothe rag to get any sort of traction. These are pretty easy to use in that regard. I'm able to get a tighter installation with this set for that reason.

I've used Dremel tools for over 15 years now. I've mainly stuck with the corded ones, as the battery-powered versions tended to run out of charge quickly, had less RPM, were generally heavier and usually had a lot less torque.The lithium version has none of these drawbacks. Because there's no cord it's more comfortable to hold (and much more convenient to use!), about the same weight as a corded model, and has plenty of RPMs and torque. Battery lifetimes are very good, and the "fuel gauge" seems to be reasonably accurate. (Exactly how long a charge will last depends greatly on what you're using it for--working on balsa wood uses a lot less power than, say, grinding metal.)Battery charge times are quite short, about three hours to charge a completely empty battery. (But thanks to a "smart charger" it should only take a few minutes to charge it after a typical job.) An added bonus is that lithium batteries hold their charges practically forever, so there's no need to "trickle charge" them; just charge it back up after you're done with it and put it away, and it'll be ready to use the next time you need it.The only nit I've found so far is the need to remove the battery to charge it. (This is probably for safety's sake.) It'd be slightly more convenient to just put the whole unit in the charger after use, but since it doesn't need charging that often this is really minor.I'd consider this to be an entirely practical replacement for a corded Dremel. For everything I use my Dremel for (mostly small models plus the occasional home repair task) this one seems more than adequate. It's a sturdy unit that should last a long time.My one concern about lifetime is how long the lithium battery will last; only time will tell. I've been using Dremels for a long time and always wanted a decent cordless. With the advent of decent cordless power tools (the first one that I had that was actually useful for something was an 18 volt DeWalt drill that went right through stuff my corded drills wouldn't touch, but that's another story) I've been waiting for Dremel to come out with a good cordless.I've been hesitant about the earlier cordless Dremels but this one looks like "it".So far it's done everything I've asked it to do but I haven't asked it to do much--I got it specifically to deal with a piece of acrylic that my cordless Rotozip melted instead of cutting--I figured the adjustable speed on the Dremel would take care of that and was right.Just an aside about stalling--if you're stalling a Dremel then it's time to take a good hard look at a Rotozip, which, if you've never played with one, is kind of a Dremel on steroids--Dremel has an equivalent, the "Advantage", but only the one model and not cordless.The lack of a provision to charge the battery with the tool attached is just carrying through the current practice with cordless tools--it's assumed that one will have two batteries, one on the tool and one on charge if this is an issue. Mine is utilized for robotics projects--it finds a lot of uses with metal. I also bought the press accessory with it. This little accessory helps me make straight cuts and drill holes.I'm telling you, I use this thing constantly and it works like a champ! It is powerful enough for me to cut all my brass and aluminum with the precision of that of a doctor. For as handy as this tool is--I'd pay twice as much to get one if need be. I've had mine for 5 months too.One HUGE word of advice. WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES! I know this may sound lame, but it saved my @ss!!! When cutting some tubing, my disk exploded at full RPM's and the shrapnel hit me in the goggles. (Of course I had my fat head over top of it while I was cutting) Just be careful. The tool is A+, but the little thing could be dangerous if you slack on the safety.

I bought one of these at a local brick & mortar store for a project I'm working on. I am impressed with the power of the device and it is a really neat tool, but unfortunatley I've already had to return two of them for a defective speed control. While using it, the first one all of a sudden just jumped up to full speed and stayed there regardless of where the speed control was set. In other words, it was no longer variable. The second one did the same thing. Since I saw replacement brushes available for their tools (and therefore they must consider it somewhat user serviceable) I decided to open it up and see what it looked like inside. One of the transistors on the circuit board had gotten warm enough to melt the solder and shorted out two of the pins on the transistor. I'm on my third one now (just returned them at the store) and I first bought one about 2-1/2 weeks ago. I bought this camera for my son's 4th birthday. One of the reasons I chose this camera is because it had the largest viewing screen for the money at the time. My son wanted to take a picture and then see the result right away. What I did not realize was that I was buying a camera that takes video as well. A bonus for him! He has had the camera for 3 months and asks to use it every single day. He uses it for hours if I allow it. So, if there is a downside it is that I need to replace the batteries a ton. It uses 2 AAA. He has figured out how to use most of the features by himself. The manual is not so helpful and the camera is cheap and kind of flimsy but it has taken plenty of 4 yr old bumps, has endured hours of use and keeps on ticking.

Ok so I was looking for a cheap camera and stumbled across this. I was a little skeptical because it was so low in price but decided to get it anyways. A LITTLE NOTE: THIS CAMERA DOES ****NOT**** come with BUILT-IN STORAGE, unlike what the specs say in the description. Needless to say, I got the camera thinking I could forego getting an SD card at the moment, but when I got the camera it said "Please insert SD Card". I at that point contacted the company I got it from on here and they refunded my money for the shipping *to pay me for the price of an SD card*. They said they would fix the description so that people do not believe it has the built-in memory when it indeed does not.



Overall though, the camera is of pretty good quality for a little 50 dollar thing. I like it a lot, although the settings are difficult to adjust so the pictures do not come out yellowish but if you turn on auto-flash then you are good to go. The smile detection and face detection are nice but can be annoying since it snaps the photo so fast on these settings. I just wanted something to use occasionally to take pics of my cats doing something cute, and that is what this camera provides. Not bad at all for the 8 MP or the price. I would recommend it but remember to buy an SD card or else the thing will not work.
