The powertec bandsaw was well packed and arrived in perfect condition.

The instructions were easy to read,and after initial setup,worked extremely well

for a band saw of its size.It has all the features of larger more expensive saws,

I used mine to make all of the body wood in my 1930 Ford coupe.

I was really surprised about this bandsaw. For a unit so low-priced, it has lasted a whole lot longer than any of the other cheapie bandsaws. I have been cutting up to 1-1/2" thick hard woods like walnut and cherry but unlike the other 9' saws I bought from Amazon, this one is still working, still going strong, after over two months of hard work. This bandsaw is just amazing!



I have to say that I have kept with the blade that came with the bandsaw and not tried putting a blade on it with finer teeth for cutting sharper curves; that's where so many other bandsaws go bad-- after the blade has been changed, so I can't say that this bandsaw is perfect in every way. But even just using the original blade shows that this is a very good, a very sturdy bandsaw that is a great buy for the price.

First, this saw uses 62 1/4" blades and not the 59 1/4" ones Amazon offers as a package. The latter doesn't fit, period. The unit arrived in a box that spelled re-package, but inside all was fine. Set-up was straight forward and the saw was running in no time at all. Upon checking why it vibrated so much, I discovered that the upper aluminum wheel was out of run, which made the blade wiggle sideways and the tension adjustment go up and down; forget about tight specs, this is a cheap tool and we pay for what we get! Now, if you've done your research, you'll have realized by now that other retail outfits sell an identical tool under their names, and you couldn't have missed the horrid customer reviews addressing a particular plastic pulley that goes bad within minutes. Rest assured, this Powertec version has a metal pulley securely fastened to the motor shaft! Now, the blade guides are another cheap affair, consisting of adjustable solid pins mounted on a plastic frame that sandwich the blade. Because the wheel is out of true on this unit, the blade touches these pins when it does its left/right flutter, and I wonder how long before I have to replace them and how much this will reduce the life of the blades... The upper guide bearing behind the blade is positioned out of alignment and the blade easily shifts off to the left, missing the bearing altogether! Now, that's starting to look like a major problem, as there is no means to remedy the issue. Remember what you pay for. The tracking adjustment works fine, and even though the blade tension adjustment takes time to get used to, it all works like it should; again, do not expect precision out of this tool. Does the saw actually work? Well, for a first course I fed 7/8" cocobolo to it and it ate it without complaining, the whole 80 inches of it! I scrolled through it without any loss of power and the cuts were clean and smooth. After one hour of torture test, the saw came clean, and I even forgot about the out of run wheel. Needless to say, the motor felt rather hot after that, and time will only tell how fast it will burn out... Now, it I had paid more for the saw, I would have returned it and given it one star, but because of its price and the fact it cut very hard wood without nary a complaint, I give it a 4! - Hitachi - Powertec'

I purchased the Western Digital 1 Tb Sata 6.0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare-oem Drive WD10EALX from Midwest Memory Outlet through Amazon. The drive was received within 3 or 4 days and was packaged extremely well. My original Seagate drive from my HP m9550F failed and was replace by the WD. The Seagate was the drive that HP kept shipping after a drive bios error was long known about. Information from the internet showed that lots of people lost valuable data because HP just kept shipping a drive with a known problem. Anyhow, I did get a bios update for the Seagate before it failed but it ended up failing anyhow.



The WD10EALX drive is fairly loud. I still have the drive located outside the case so that may contribute to the sound level. The noise seems to be from the head movement. The platter spin is silent. For the price this is one drive that is hard to beat and I am well pleased with it. My bios can't take advantage of the 6 Gb/s transfer rate but the drive is plenty fast just the same. I have loaded around 600 gig of data onto it. After around 3 weeks I'll assume it will not fail and put the case back together. If it fails I'll update this review. I noticed on NewEgg that a few failures were being reported. Not the long-term ones but the more likely out of the box ones. Here's keeping my fingers crossed. (Boot drive failures are a pain).



UPDATE:

OK. I put the case back together. The drive is not silent but it is pretty quiet. I can hear just faint clicks as it does its thing. Very nice. No problems with the drive at all. Recommended. Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Blue SATA III 7200 RPM 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD10EALX

My use for these drives is to replace a couple of aging five year old 80GB drives in Windows XP and XP Media Center machines. Those drives are still running fine, however, for the price, I had absolutely no reason not to upgrade them at this time.



I came across this drive middle of last week and Amazon was selling it new for $29 - I was scratching my head thinking "what's the deal" and "what's wrong with these drives"? Sure, even though they were above $25, Amazon was still charging for the shipping - so I took two to bring the per drive shipping down slightly. The old 3Gb version of this drive was selling for over $40 - so again, scratching my head about this. Maybe it was a pricing mistake? Whatever - it was a great price.



The drives arrived yesterday, same standard OEM packaging all of my six other WD drives have come in over the past 9 months. I used Clonezilla to clone the old drives on to the new, it went smoothly without any issues. I'm storing the old drives just in case these new ones have any issues I won't have to rebuild the system drives from scratch.



I know that the motherboards in my machines cannot make use of the 6Gb throughput, however, these drives are definitely faster than what they're replacing - older WD drives which indicate they are 7200RPM and 3Gb. Specs on the older drives indicate performance shouldn't be all that different, but it is, and for the better. I won't question it.



The drive indicates you can jumper pins 5 and 6 to limit it to 3Gb, but I didn't understand the benefit of doing it, so I left it unjumpered and it's working well.



To summarize - these drives are fast, quiet, and so far are performing excellently. I'm very happy with them thus far.

This drive would be a nightmare for the inexperienced, hence 4 stars. No instructions or software included! Had to download drivers and install a floppy boot drive to complete installation. Otherwise, the drive is quiet and fast.

This is not the "black series" as stated by the comment above. This is the Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EALX 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive.



According to the Western Digital Data Sheet for the Blue Series Drives:

Good Value For The Money - laptop case, 17 inch laptop case

I ordered this carrying case for my 17" laptop, and I am delighted with the storage capacity and quality. There is plenty of laptop room with a couple of inches of width to spare, and there's an adjustable padded strap inside to keep it from sliding side to side in the excess area. There is also a velcro strap to hold the laptop firmly in place when it and the case are closed. As others noted, I can zip open the case and use the laptop without taking it out, a feature I was particulary looking for. The case is well padded, and has plenty of pockets that add storage but not bulk. There's not enough space for anything thick like textbooks, but flat notebooks, folders, or small books would easily fit. One of the pockets has loops and pockets to hold pencils, calculators, business cards, and other small items. The bag has a handle and a detachable shoulder strap. This is a great case and the price was far below what I expected to pay for anything like it. Case Logic VNC-17 17-inch Value Slimline Laptop Case (Black)

We just use the case for storage at home and for short local trips, but we love it! With an adjustable velcro strap inside, we can safely and securely fit our large HP notebook. Plus there is enough room for the plug! The front pockets are helpful, too. Great for holding the wireless mouse. I would feel totally secure taking this laptop case on a longer trip. If you are wanting to combine your laptop case with a briefcase, this isn't the bag for you. While there is adequate storage for a personal user or a digital scrapbooker (like me!) there isn't enough room for tons of paper.

Pros: Well made.

Lots of pockets for storage.

Holds my 17" wide screen laptop.

Shoulder strap.

Price.



Cons: A little more padding on the bottom would be nice.

They should have added a dedicated cell phone pocket.

I recently purchased my first laptop, which has a 16 inch screen. I looked in a few stores for a case for it, but most of their cases were for laptops with a 15.4 inch screen. I did not want to spend a whole lot of money for the case since I will mostly need the case for storage at home, but I did not want to just buy a "sleeve" since I know I will be traveling with the laptop occasionally. I wanted to make sure my laptop is well protected but not spend a huge amount of money. I decided to purchase the Case Logic VNC-17 17-inch Value Slimline Laptop Case (Black) and I am thrilled with my purchase!



My laptop easily fits into the case. There is one strap that goes over the one end of the laptop. My husband felt that there should have been two straps, but I pointed out that there is a divider that can be adjusted in the case so that it fits snug against the other end of the laptop to ensure that the laptop doesn't slide around in the case. On the other side of the divider, I was able to easily fit the cords and charger.



There is a pocket on the lid inside the case where I put the mousepad, but you could easily store papers or other flat objects. On the outside of the case, there is a large zippered compartment on the front with places where you can store disks, 2 loops for storing pens, a pouch net where I stored the mouse, as well as another pocket for small papers or any other accessory you may have for your laptop. On the outside of this large zippered compartment, there is a smaller zippered pocket where you could store papers. On the back of the case, there is another pocket where you could store papers. There is PLENTY of room for storing everything you need for your laptop!



There are 2 ways in which to carry this case. You can either use the handle or the shoulder strap. The shoulder strap has a pad that can easily be adjusted so that it fits right on top of your shoulder, which helps alleviate pressure from the weight of the case when your computer and all the accessories are stored in it.



Just one added plus: the company was EXTREMELY prompt with shipping this product! I chose to go with the free shipping, so I expected it to take about a week to receive my case (it said 5-9 days). I ordered the case on a Wednesday evening and was shocked when I received it on Friday morning...less than 48 hours after I ordered it! I don't think you'll be disappointed at all if you purchase this case!

- Within 24 hours of use, the zipper broke (the part that you pull on came off from the zipper track). I hammered the loose part onto the zipper myself to fix it (it was quicker than returning it).

- Strap broke within about 3 weeks of use. The strap is attached by plastic hooks with a relatively thin wire clip securing the strap hook onto the bag handles (SEE THE PICTURES). The wire bent, came out of its holes and no longer secures the strap hook in place, leading to me dropping my laptop a few times, whenever the strap hook unhinges itself.

- The zipper handle broke again, leading to me loosing the part after about 4 weeks of use.



2. I personally do not like the fact that the main laptop compartment opens up completely, 180 degrees rather than from the top only. Midi Interface - music, cable

This is, by far, the cheapest option right now for a comparable length USB MIDI interface cable: a measly $6. For those who want a straight answer: yes, it works. For me. If yours doesn't, HDE has a great return policy.



PROS:

- Very easy setup, driver installs automatically within seconds

- Windows XP, Vista 32 and 64-bit compatible

- Very cheap, while offering an authentic USB MIDI interface



CONS:

- Cord is a little too short for me--about 5 feet

- High latency. Latency is the time it takes for input from your keyboard to reach your computer, and in my experience the latency for this interface is really high--around a quarter to three quarters of a second. This makes it very hard to play live accompaniment to background music you've created. However, if you disable MIDI playback in your sequencing program and just listen to the notes as they're played on your keyboard, you can shift all of the notes in your program after you've finished and it works just fine. It's a couple extra steps per song, or a couple dozen more dollars for a faster cord :3

- Those lights on the converter are annoying!



NOTES

- When setting up, if you are getting no sound, try switching the MIDI IN/OUT ports on your input device. On Yamaha products, "MIDI IN" goes into the keyboard's "MIDI OUT" port, etc. so you can't just match them up! USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboar

Quick note: make sure the 'In' plug goes into your 'Out' on your keyboard and vice-versa.

I bought this to work with a game like guitar hero, but for the piano, Synthesia. The game plays the notes on your computer screen, and then the music comes out your keyboard (best to prevent lag).

I experience practically no lag when working with Mixcraft, using the sound driver "Wave-RT" in the settings. Mixcraft is a fun music recording studio program.

Not Mac compatible, contrary to the specs from the manufacturer. The Mac generic Midi settings do see the device but there is no way to alter any of the settings and certainly no way to trigger or control any connected MIDI instrument. Also, there are no Mac MIDI drivers that work with this device available (believe me, I've tried several).

This product specifies that it's Mac compatible with OS X. Either that's outright inaccurate or the device is entirely dead. No lights will come on when it's plugged in, but the keyboard crashes when it's plugged in.



Yes, I noted which plug was supposed to go into which port. Tried this with two separate computers.

I was hoping this could replace my slightly more clunky MidiMan MidiSport (box). The latency is so bad, I am several seconds behind the tune. I am using a Yamaha WX-7 Woodwind controller, and an Edirol SD-20 Sound Module. Neither are really new, but they are venerable mature pieces of equipment.



For the lousy [...] bucks, it's not worth sending back, but this goes in the trash. It might work, but if you don't like to waste money, go up a notch and buy something you know will work.

Does not work. Tried to use this product to connect from a keyboard to my computer every which way you can imagine...also tried connecting a synthesizer to another computer, still nothing. Yet I tried using this cable to connect not one but 2 different digital horns (electronic wind instruments)--either to computer or keyboard...nothing.



The seller wins because it is not worth the hassle to pay shipping again to send it back and wait and hope. If you read this and you are still thinking of buying this item--DON'T!! I'd be happy to tell you how I was able to find an alternative way to connect my MIDI equipment to computers that require USB using OTHER CABLES...

I am a newbie to Garageband and quickly realized that I needed a MIDI keyboard. I already had an old Casio from the '90's but no cables to attach to my Macbook Pro. I was close to buying the M-Audio interface that costs $40, but I didn't want to spend too much money as this is only a hobby. So I bought this cheapy thing not knowing if it would work. Well, I plugged in one of the MIDI outputs into my keyboard and stuck the USB end into the Macbook, thinking that the next step would be to hunt for and install a driver, but Garageband immediately recognized my Casio keyboard and I was able to use it right away! I was so stoked because I saved myself a lot of money.

I was looking for a USB/MIDI interface compatible with Vista 64. I had seen some more expensive interfaces advertised, but their reviews seemed pretty inconsistent. This interface cable seemed to have very consistent reviews, and for less than $7.00 (including shipping) I felt it worthy a try. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Installation was a snap (I just plugged it in and Vista detected it). After I downloaded a tool to set my MIDI output device for Vista, I was enjoying listening to MIDI files on my keyboard via Media Player. I tried recording some simple midi sequences as well, and did not notice any issues with latency reported in some of the reviews. The notes appeared in the sequencer as soon as I played them from the keyboard. Overall I can say this is a great product to try. I received the cable within five days of ordering as well. Multi-card Reader - usb card reader, multi-card reader

Low price. Does an excellent job at moving files from an SD card(SDHC) for my digital camera to my PC using USB port. No complaint. Well, the cap pops out easily. I guess if you are not careful you could probably lose it. Not really a problem for me. I used it for a few months now and the cap is still there. Transcend P5 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader TS-RDP5K (Black)

When using a digital camera, the Transcend 9-in-1 allows you to forget all the cumbersome cables that comes with your camera ...it's also very transportable so you can easily pack this in your camera bag without adding to your bulk. There are times when you take just a few photos and want to share them with a friend or upload on Flickr or other hosting site, just remove your memory card and insert it into the 9-in-1 and plug it into a laptop, netbook, or desktop computer!...essentially with the memory card, it becomes a usb flash drive. No need for special cords, no need for special software, just upload and go. And since this takes a number of different cards (including cellphone micro SD cards or blackberry memory cards, you can just fit the card to the 9-in-1 and upload pictures, data, whatever and use it as you would use any flash drive...it's now all I use when transferring pictures or data when using a camera, cellphone or blackberry.

The small form factor makes the P5 a stylish accessory in my digital camera case. The P5 permits me to transfer SDHC memory card data from my digital camera at USB2.0 rates. It has a sleek stylish look. No cables are needed with the P5.



Since another reviewer indicated this P5 card reader transfers data only at USB1.1 (700-900 KB/sec) rates and not at USB2.0 (12-15 MB/sec) rates, I conducted the following transfer speed demonstrations.



I used a Transcend SDHC (16 GB) flash memory card loaded with 1.13 GB of files (3 MPEG-4 clips ~ 300MB each, 24 JPEG ~ 1 MB each). If reading this amount of data through the Transcend card reader works only at USB1.1 rates, then reading these files should take about 19 minutes. If it reads data at USB2.0 rates, then reading these files should take between 1-2 minutes. For this test, the data transfer from the SDHC through the P5 to a macbook pro took right at 60 seconds. This translates into 18.8 MB/sec average transfer rate for reading. Clearly, the Transcend P5 Card reader is capable of USB2.0 high-speed data transfers.



After deleting the files on the SDHC memory card, I timed how long it took to write 1.13 GB (same set of files) from the macbook pro back to the memory card. For this second test, the write transfer time for 1.13GB was 105 seconds. This translates into 10.7 MB/sec average transfer rate for writing. Clearly, the Transcend P5 Card reader is capable of USB2.0 high-speed data transfers in either direction.



Why buy: The USB interface permits this card reader to be compatible with nearly every computer on the planet. The P5 fits easily in my digital camera case. Transfer speed is great!

First off I want to say I ordered 2 of these and they both preform to the same levels. I tested them against each other and against other SD card readers using a class 10 card.



Pros:

They work. There easy to use and compact enough for camera bag travel. Plus the blue LED is a nice touch.



Cons:

Slow speed (700-900KB/sec. (See explanation below)

Might not fit in to the front ports on some computers due to computer manufactures compact designs. Not really Transcend's fault, just a note.



Ok, so I'm not sure what I expected for the price of these readers, just that they preform as posted. They are USB 2.0 Compliant and will work on a 2.0 system, however they are not capable of USB 2.0 Speed. I have tested them both against 2 other adapters and on 2 USB hubs in my system and they preform at the USB 1.1 standard. I reliably get 700-900KB/sec read out of these moving 8+MB pictures off of them. When I plug in my other reader (the one I thought I lost) I get the proper USB 2.0 speeds of 12-15MB/sec read. It was going to take over 40 minutes to copy over my card. I swapped my reader for my recently found one and it doped to 2 minutes. Enough said. Use Sandisk MicroMate SD/SDHC Reader (Black) instead to get the right speeds (came with an old card but still works great).

Conclusion:

If you only have a USB1.1 system then these are great. I can't think of many computers that are stuck with the old standard any more, but hey there cheep. If you think your buying a "Hi-Speed" adapter then your being misled. It's compatible with 2.0, it just doesn't use the 2.0. Get one that actually transfers at 2.0.

I bought this to read the memory card for my digital camera. It replaced a much larger and more expensive SanDisk "all in one" reader which puked and died for no reason after a year or so of very light use. This unit is very easy to use, just plug it into any USB port and slide your SD card into the slot. You do not need any specialized software or drivers, it just pops in and your PC sees it and will read it like any drive. File transfer was very fast with no problems. When you're done, you can leave it in place or easily pop it out and stick it in your pocket, kit bag etc. I'm using it on an older Dell desktop running Windows XP. I also used it in my wife's HP Laptop running Windows Vista Premium and it worked like a charm. I highly recommend it.



I used this to read and recover erased files, which I had accidently deleted from my camera's memory card. As long as you DON'T record files over the erased files or format the memory card, you can in most cases recover deleted files. I found a very nice completely FREE program called "RECUVA" that I downloaded and used to recover my pics. I highly recommend this if you have deleted or erased files and you need to recover them.



[I found many other programs that were advertised as "free", but in fact would only show you the deleted files, not recover them; you had to go online and buy the activation code or license key at $30 to $60, depending on the program, to actually use their software. this is a good machine and I would buy it again--- that being said however the unit is definitely not intuitive and the screen is barely readable. There has got to be a better way. The instruction book was not written from the point of view of the consumer and that creates just a bit of challenge and opportunity in the overall use of the machine especially if you are an occasional user rather than a regular user.



Good machine but the designer failed to think about the end-user. Brother Desktop Office Labeler with AC Adapter (PT2030AD)

This Labeler is easy to use and it is very easy to switch from size to size for labels. It is a little wasteful on the tape so I try to make all my labels at once and just put a couple of spaces in between the titles. Otherwise it uses blank tape at the two ends. I have not gone through a tape cartridge yet so I am not sure how much you really get from one cartridge. I am going to stock up on different sizes and color combinations. It helps me stay organized and it looks professional. I bought it for my business but it has been useful at home too. Very nice to make the lettering LARGE. Furniture Sliders - moving straps, forearm forklift

Not to long ago I moved into a new home. I used the forearm forklift many times. I found it was ideal for moving big items, for example my 65" projection tv, which weighs roughly 350lbs. Without the forearm forklift it took 4 men to move, with the forearm forklift it took 2! The only downside to this product is using it to go up or downstairs with big items. It is not easy almost scary, I found it to be safer to not use the straps then pick them up after the steps. Above All Forearm Forklift Lifting and Moving Straps, Orange

I try to filter out the hype that sometimes ends up in reviews on this site - but the reviews on this product seemed to have a bit of truth to them so I ordered them. I am very impressed; these really do help out.



One of the biggest challenges I often have when working around the house is moving large items by myself. My wife is always willing to try and help but her will is sometimes larger than her muscles.



Now, these make it much easier for us. Last weekend, we used these to move a washer and dryer from one end of the basement to the other. No problem at all. Before using these, I would have struggled to get this done but these straps made it very easy for her to help me and we got the job done quickly and probably much more safely. It was so easy I was almost laughing.



Enough said... these lived up the hype. I'm very glad to own them.

The forearm forklifts work very well for lifting heavy things (washers, dryers, couches, etc) on flat surfaces. When you try to go up stairs, the person on the bottom has an easy job, and the person going up at the top should probably have arms like Rocky. For going up stairs with LARGE objects, I actually have a product called "Shoulder Dolly".



Forearm Forklifts are quicker for flat surfaces, but for going up stairs, you need something that goes over your shoulders.

I am quite suspicious of these 'As Seen on TV' type items. However, after finding some good reviews on this site and others and the desperate need for a miracle to get heavy furniture and boxes from a ground floor to a second floor unit (no elevators), I decided to purchase these through Amazon.



***What it does well:***

I have to say that after some test runs before the move, I was really impressed with how much easier carrying heavy items was. Please note that I have weak and noodley arms so this was truly amazing. Getting items from the apartment to the truck and generally carrying items over-ground (no stairs/large steps up or down) was much much easier and saved a lot of back strain.



***Tips on using it:***

You do have to make sure that the strap is all the way up your forearm by your elbow and that your hands are up against the item for it to work properly. You may also need to switch which arm holes you are using depending on the size of the item and your height (and the height of the second carrier). Do a couple test lifts before you commit to going the full distance to make sure you're all adjusted. These are designed to be used by two-lifters working together; don't expect to be able to use these solo.



***What it didn't do well:***

We could not figure out how to get this to work on stairs at all. This was my major fear in purchasing it and ultimately we could not get them to work for this task. This does work with less-steep stairs and ramps but not steeper stairs such as those between building floors.



***Overall:***

I am very happy with how much the straps helped us move furniture over ground when they did not fit on a dolly. This did save a lot of energy and pain over manually carrying the items. However, I was disappointed with the product's inability to assist with stairs which were the major concern with the move. Due to it's dependable but limited functionality, I've rated the Forearm Forklift Lifting Straps as 'Average' at three stars.

First, Lets look at the design and why it works. The straps have 3 arm holes on each end. This design allows people of different heights to hold up their end without the awkward height difference. I am much shorter then my husband, but the straps fixed this.



When you slip the straps underneath the object, you are using the power of your legs instead of arms to lift. We bought these in March for our move, and are using these still to move furniture around.



Even for more then $20, its still a value. We certainly do not use it everyday, however they take up so little room to store, we can easily dig them out and use it.



Great for Bulky items that are hard to hold. Heavy items are still heavy, but better. It also alleviates someone carrying the "Heavy" end, as you can position the item so that it splits the weight between two.



The straps are also pretty heavy duty and do not seem worn. For the price, what do you have to lose?

When a hand truck won't work or isn't available, these lifting straps may do the trick. The straps are well made and reasonably comfortable, since the weight is carried on the loop over the forearm. The straps are especially helpful when moving large items through doorways, and have saved me some pinched fingers.



They are especially useful to have on hand when the people doing the moving aren't of equal strength or size. The bright orange color makes them easy to find, too.

We used the Forearm Forklift this past week to move to another house. We own a lot of large furniture and the Forearm Forklift really came in handy especially for moving bulky, awkward items. This was especially true for matresses, a china hutch, couches, bookcases, etc. If the item you are moving doesn't have strong legs or give (e.g., a mattress) it really is best to crisscross the straps underneath the item to make sure you keep your grip on it.



It was nice to have the Foream Forklift in addition to a dolly as there are many items that one can't move easily with a dolly (upright or piano). We won't move again without these and will be buying them for any friends who will be moving. - Moving - Straps - Moving Straps - Forearm Forklift'
