Black Decker - versapak

Cheap price, fits a little snug into screwdriver and needs a little persuasion to seat into the battery charger but it works and it's a decent price. Hopefully the quality and longevity is decent too. Little suspicious being a non-name brand, made in China product but it's getting extremely difficult to find the actual Versa pak batteries at reasonable prices. Having had a Blackberry Curve previously, and being frustrated with it, I should've known better when I upgraded to the 9650. Right out of the box, the trackpad button was installed crooked. I took it back immediately and was told by the Sprint technician, "yup, it's crooked, nothing we can do about it, RIM shipped thousands like that". And so began nearly a year of frustration with this deeply flawed device. Six months into using it, the device suddenly began turning itself off for no reason, usually just when I was using the browser. I took it back for repair, and they marginally fixed it, though it continued to shut down on occasion. The crooked trackpad continued to impede navigation throughout my usage. When they upgraded the operating system during the shut-down repair, I had hoped for better performance. Instead, it just slowed the phone down even more. As I travel to rural areas often, I need a phone that can also function minimally as a web browser - and this is where this phone really fails. Mobile media pages load with excruciating slowness, if at all. The camera image quality is also very poor, and the rudimentary controls are clunky and primitive. After less than a year I had enough and purchased at full price an HTC Android phone, and love it. Clearly, RIM has no clue about the current smartphone paradigm; the Blackberry line is a thing of the past, and the 9650 is an overpriced piece of junk, useful only as a phone, and marginally for messaging. Buyer beware.

Band Saw - skil, bandsaw

The band saw arrived in good condition without any damage or missing parts. Assembled in about 15 minutes and did not need any adjusting. It works well, fairly quiet and with enough power to do the job. The laser and LED lights are a nice touch, but not really that useful. The case is plastic, so it may not last for decades, but the unit is well worth $100. This is not a top of the line band saw, but it is better than I expected for the price. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and would recommend to others. Factory-Reconditioned Skil 3385-01-RT 2.5 Amp 9-Inch Band Saw

I was in a hurry to make some band saw cuts and picked up one of these at a local retailer for $114 plus tax. Wish I could have waited a few days for it to be shipped. Although not a high quality tool, this saw performs better than I expected for the money. It does have a bit of that "made in a third world country" feel about it, but after making all the adjustments and doing a couple of test cuts, I'm pretty pleased. It's easy to set up and adjust and the features can't be beat for the price. It even has a laser indicator line and work light. Just be sure to spend a few minutes adjusting all the blade guides as you would with any new saw. This is no replacement for my 18-inch Jet bandsaw, but should be perfect for those quick small cuts when I don't want to wrestle the 300-pound machine.

PROS:

* mostly functional right out of the box (with a few adjustments)

* design looks good, everything seems easy to reach

* base and frame seem adequately solid

* all the adjustments seem to be functional, even if

flimsy or rough-feeling

* gear-driven blade guide arm is a nice touch.

CONS

* basically everything is very light-duty and has a thin,

flexible feel to it, including the table. I had to put

washers under one side of the table and change the mounting

bolts to get the table square to the blade - the fence and

miter gauge also have quite a bit of 'slop'.

* table angle pinion and rack gears feel rough, and it didn't

go far enough to get the table square with the blade (see above)!

* the fence is super cheesy and lightweight. You have to eyeball it

to make it straight (the stripes on the table help), but then

again you could also just clamp a board onto the table!

* wheels seem VERY light duty - not quite true(out of the box the upper one was

scraping slightly on the frame, which went away with a little adjustment).

I can't imagine putting any wider blade on for rip cuts, without things

flexing too much.

* The blade guide surrounds the blade and obscures the cut, unless

you have it mounted at a ridiculous height (eye level!), or bend down to look

I don't really have any comment about the laser, as I don't use it -

however, its pretty wobbly where its attached inside the case, so good luck getting it

to stay in the same position over a long period of time. One more thing that

could be nice with a little modification.

Overall, I think this would probably be OK for very light-duty, craft-type work

on thin material. . .

CONCLUSION:

I would have rated this 3 stars if I hadn't gone to Harbor Freight and seen a

very similar 9" saw that seems much better implemented (single speed, but motor

looks more solid, table and angle mechanism MUCH more solid and smooth. Also has

a toothed belt. No fence, but you could probably make something). Theirs is $119, but you

can find a 20% off coupon in the mailers or online, bringing it down under $100.

In retrospect I would have gone with this (probably with the extended warrantee).

Hope this helps.

I have a older bandsaw but put a 1/2 blade on it and don't like changing blades. to a smaller size so I thought about this skil. I am a skeptic about refurbished but am quite happy with little guy.The only difference I can tell it is a referb is the sticker on it. The only problem is the little plate around the blade was not pushed in tight, not hard to fix. I think I will need to clean the bed as it looks like it has some protective stuff on it. It does have a 1 year warranty. The "powerful 2 1/2 motor?) will handle small projects but resawing might prove difficult. All in all it is worth the money for what you get. It is very small and thin so it won't take up any space. The light and laser are a nice touch. The blade required no ajustment even after shipping so that might say something about the ability to stay in tune. I noticed Ryobi has a referb to with the same specs but cost a fair bit more.

One week early on delivery. Band saw was very easy to assemble. Came with blade on and ready to cut, very little adjustment required.

Saw made very clean cuts and functioned as good as can be expected from a small, lite band saw.Factory-Reconditioned Skil 3385-01-RT 2.5 Amp 9-Inch Band Saw

Don't waste your money on this saw. I am a professional crafts-person, and owned a delta band saw for over 10 years, until it finally died last month. I needed a new saw fast, and went to Lowe's and picked this one up. It is IMPOSSIBLE to change the blade, and if, by chance you have 3 arms and can get the blade on, you cannot set the tension. It is the worst design ever!I wish I had just bought a different saw because I am wasting hours of precious time trying to get the blade on.

I am just getting started in woodworking and didn't want to spend $500 on my first bandsaw. I read a bunch of reviews and picked this one. My saw arrived in great shape and if i didn't know better I would have thought it was a new tool. It was easy to assemble and fired right up with no problems. The first thing I noticed was the laser is useless. I tried adjusting it and it is no where close to where it should be. The fence is also pretty useless on this. The table was warped at the corners and needs to be bent/adjusted. I mainly use this for cutting small curves in .25-.5" soft wood and it works great for that. I think with some adjustments it would be even better.

I think this is a great saw for the price if you are just getting started in wood working. If you are looking for something that is going to be really accurate right out of the box you are going to have to spend a little (or a lot) more. - 2009 Amazon Frustration-fre - Woodworking - Bandsaw - Skil'

I have been looking for a nice dress watch for awhile. I have a Tag Heur stainless steel watch but I was looking for something more elegant to wear with my suits. I know there are many people who say that you can wear a stainless steel watch with a suit but I still think a nice leather band watch looks better. My main concern was a Swiss movement at a good value. I looked at Seikos all the way up to Omega's. I did not really like any of the Seikos because the body of the watch were on the thinner side. Omega's were way out of the price range. Thus I started doing more research on Raymond Weil and found that they are a very reputable Swiss watchmaker but do not have the large premiums associated with them like the higher brand names. I am glad I went with this Tradition watch because it is very elegant with the black face and the leather band. I have not had any problems with the watch in the past year and I always get compliments on it. If you are looking for an elegant dress watch, give this watch a look! Running Shoes - new balance, wide toe box

I visited a local runners specialty store and tried on a few options. These were the ones that fit just right for my overpronating, flat foot. I ran down the street with them and chose them. I paid a lot for them and felt unsure about the price, but knew that the right shoe wouldn't come cheap.

I came home and did an online search for the shoe and found the cheapest price here (well, via another vendor). I ordered the shoe which matched the shoe I initially bought, and waited for it. It came in a week. It was the EXACT shoe but I found it here for $15 less. To a beginning runner, who might run into a lot of "the right" pairs on my journey, this is paramount to me. (Luckily, I was able to return the other shoes to my local retailer without an issue).

Now, I use this shoe strictly for my daily runs/jogs and my neck no longer hurts the next day. My feet don't pinch at every step anymore and I feel BALANCED with each step. This shoe feels like it was made specifically for my foot. I have wide feet, no arch, and I am a severe overpronator. I will be buying another pair soon. I feel so bad for those who are still wearing the wrong shoe. Mine has worked wonders for me. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

Specifics: the laces are fantastic! They don't come undone and I don't have to double tie them. They may appear a bit large and somewhat bulky but when you walk and run with them, all of that slips away. Having a wide foot, I thought I'd need the wide size but this shoe is spacious enough that I don't need it. The style is fine too, nothing too flashy nor too demure. All around - a GREAT shoe! New Balance Women's Wr1012 Nbx Motion Control Running Shoe,Silver/Blue,9.5 2E

These were suggested to me at a podiatrist owned shoe store. I went in thinking my custom orthotics needed some tweaking but came out wearing these shoes without orthotics. I was told to "give them 10 days" and I could return them if I didn't feel better. Being pessimistic I tried to find things wrong with them, but I couldn't. The support is so good and so comfortable I put them on as early as I can in the day and wear them straight til bedtime. My back pain is gone as is my heel pain from plantar fascitis. There's enough stability in the shoe itself I no longer have to wear the custom orthotic. I can't recommend them enough. Now, if NB could just come up with a dressy brown shoe, I'd be set. Sneakers don't exactly go with every outfit.

I have flat feet and overpronate so it is very difficult to find any tennis shoe that will be comfy, especially when working out/running. I have the much older model, 1010, but wanted to upgrade to get the new colors. I still use the older ones for any 'dirty' work around the house. Anyway, this shoe is well worth the money.

This is the second pair of these that I have gotten. The first pair lasted a year, which, for someone who wears them every day (and uses them to work out as well), is a great statement. They provide great support and stability while not looking like an orthopoedic shoe! They are still stylish AND sturdy!

These shoes are so comfortable, it's like walking on pillows! I would advise breaking them in for about a month before doing serious workouts because they did cause blisters BUT that was my own fault because they are so comfortable and didn't even feel them. Good communication with seller as well. Would buy from again and definitely no question about it, purchase these shoes over another!

I work out a lot but was never comfortable. I suffered minor back and knee pain, but pushed through anyway, thinking it was normal. Last year, my husband and I did the Insanity program, which requires a lot of jumping and bouncing around. I couldn't handle the discomfort anymore. We got these shoes and I cannot believe the difference! I have no problems with my knees and back anymore! Don't waste your money on cheap shoes. Get good ones, like these or whatever works for your foot type. New Balance are amazing and I highly recommend them!

I LOVED my NB WR1011 shoes for my step aerobics class. They kept me from rolling/twisting my ankles when moving from side to side. When I went looking for new ones, I was disappointed to find that the WR1011 was discontinued and replaced with WR1012. I went ahead and bought these anyway, hoping they'd fit and feel the same. I don't think they fit as nicely as the 1011 did, but they do keep me from rolling/twisting my ankles. I don't think the arch support is as nice as the 1011 either, but it's adequate. I like more support in my arches. Overall, I feel it's not as true to the New Balance "SL-2" fit as the 1011 was. This shoe has adequate support and still works for me, though.

Suffering for many years with plantar fasciitis has not been fun. Since I over pronate, the stability of this shoe has helped with my heel pain a lot. I wear my Birkenstock inserts in this shoe or you could insert regular or custom made orthotics (which have not worked for me in the past). Working 12-hour shifts and on my feet all day, I expect to have tired feet by the end of the day, however the sharp heel pain is slowly going away. This shoe was almost impossible to find in my area, except in specialty stores for a lot more money, so finding it here, for a lot less money and super fast shipping was a great alternative. Happy walking!

This shoe has really worked for me.. I recently had a bunionectomy and have had a difficult time feeling comfortable in my shoes. I bought this pair after reading the reviews. I added my insoles and I love them... Very comfortable.. - Wide Toe Box - New Balance - Fitness - Running Shoes'

Electric Chainsaw - power tools, chainsaw

I have some experience with chain saws from thirteen years in logging in the Pacific Northwest. No longer in logging and no longer have need of a large professional gas saw. I looked at some less costly makes at local hardware stores but they were just to cheaply made. I went for this one and have no regrets. The soft start feature and overload protection make this saw worth the extra cost. Overall quality is great and balance is very good. This saw will certainly keep my residential property under control and will probably out last me. The first tree I took down was mature birch with an eighteen-inch trunk. Took about an hour to turn it into firewood and mulch and did it all on a weekend morning before the neighbors were up, they never heard a thing. If you are not trained or professionally experienced with the use of chain saws, please carefully read the entire operators manual and follow the instructions explicitly. I've seen many bad injuries with saws and they always happen in the blink of an eye. Safety first, always. Makita UC3530A Commercial Grade 14-Inch 15 amp Electric Chain Saw with Tool-Less Blade And Chain Adjustments

Ordered it 04-29-2010; arrived 04-30-2010.

Unkinking chain was longest part of the assembly.

Love the metal sprocket and gearing. And the

tension adjustment is superb - twisted a knob

inbetween cuts and the chain snugged right

up to the bar. No dismantelling or barked

knuckles from oily wrench slip.

Had to stub down a 30+ year old orange

tree in a hurry and had 8"+ diameter trunks

lying down for this Makita to deal with.

Absolutely no problem. Literally cut through

with just the weight of the bar and blade -

which with my Little old lady bad back was an unexpected

pleasure. Had three 12' trunk sections cut

to garbage can size in an hour and still had

enough back left to rake. Love the saw.

Just one piddly thing- have to turn it on it's

side to fill oil and the glass oil fill bubble is

rendered useless on it's side. So of course

oil flowed all over the saw and floor. But my

error, not the saws. Perhaps have the fill

cap on top not the side if they do a redesign.

Will for sure buy more blades as this saw is

a keeper. Oh- the tooless install is handy

once you get the hang of it. Five stars from

a 60 year old with bad back using a chainsaw.

Until I used this chainsaw I laughed at even the idea of an electric chain saw. I've been using gasoline chainsaws for over forty years. This little saw will amaze you. With a small Honda genset in the back of our Kawasaki Mule we run all over our place cutting firewood and taking out dead or dying trees. It will fall any tree of reasonable dimensions and will quickly clean it up. Keep it clean and filled with chain oil. We are pretty hard on ours and it shrugs if off so I'm guessing most users will never have a problem. And by the way, there is an enormous difference between this Makita electric and the electric chain saws you see for $[...]-$[...]. Don't waste your money on the cheap machines.

Aside from supporting what has already been said about this saw, there is little I can add to the reviews already given. I relied on them to make my decision to purchase it and I'm pleased to say it was not a "too good to be true" situation.

This is a well built saw. That fact became evident the time I first picked it up, when I noted it weighs, probably, twice what any of my previous three electric saws weighed. It appears to be built with the same standards Makita and the other big name companies apply in the construction of their heavy duty, commercial worm drive circular saws.

Installing and removing the bar, or adjusting the chain during use, is, as others noted, simple and requires no tools. I was leery of the "no tool" approach to chain tensioning; however, it works well on my high end [barrel handle] jig saw, so, I made the plunge and spent the extra nickles. Again, I'm not disappointed.

I have a couple cords of apple firewood to tackle each year and, from the little I've used it so far, I feel confident this saw is up to the task.

We use electric chain saws in our indoor facility to cut process scraps into pieces small enough to efficiently feed the grinder and puck maker. After spending a pile of money on multiple "handyman" quality machines by every other name in chain saws only to have them die quick and ugly deaths, I finally found a source for this "commercial quality" saw.

What a difference! This saw has plenty of torque, good balance, and runs very smoothly. Having used it for hours nearly every day in the month since I bought it, it continues to eat like a greedy 'gator.

I hope (and expect) it will give us long service.

I recently bought this saw due to a cheap Remington that kept giving me problems. I could not complain it lasted and did well for the years I used it.

This saw is a winner. Yes, it is expensive compared to the cheaper saws. The soft start is definitely a plus, it doesn't jump when started, it oils the chain and bar well and has enough power for the size it is. They should name it "Eager Beaver" because it goes on wood like one. I will tell you that it weighs a little more than the cheaper ones. Normally, anything that is well built will weigh more...that is a plus in durability and a minus on the muscles. I recommend this if you can afford it.

I needed to save some money on tree removal and I have a real fear of chainsaws. I bought this saw because I trust the brand and electric saws somehow seem less intimidating. That was a good decision. The saw is absolutely perfect for the size of trees I am cutting (3" to 10" thick). It is also incredibly quiet. I was going to leave some of the bigger trees to the arborist but now I will just cut the trees I want and leave the chipping and stumping to the professionals for about a 1000$US savings after buying the saw. - Chainsaw - Power Tools - Chain Saw - Chain Saws'
