Wide Calf Boots - tall boots, hard to fit calf

I couldn't be happier with the boots themselves; they're true to size, won't kill your feet, and are definitely leather despite other reviews that I've seen to the contrary - not sure how or why folks have said that, but mine are definitely leather. The D-ring and pleat are lovely complements to their overall appearance - dress them up or dress them down, they look great with a sweater dress & tights, or under boot cut jeans, or with a tunic & leggings. Once you receive your correct size, all's well, but here's where it gets tricky... apparently Naturalizers' standards for both size and shaft vary greatly - I tried another pair of Naturalizer boots on in a department store, a half size down my normal size, and there was room to spare in the toe... and the regular shaft (calf circumference) was perfect(read to the end of the review, however). Several online reviews indicated that the standard shaft was made for stick figures & I have more athletic calves, so I was fully expecting to need the wide shaft... my in-store experience indicated otherwise, so I happily ordered a size down and regular shaft. Lo & behold, I received them, and THIS pair was true to size and the shaft was quite snug. (Ergo, the in-store pair was mis-labeled.) Returned those and re-ordered my proper size, thinking the additional size would provide another fraction of an inch in the shaft. When I received the 2nd pair, they were tagged as wide shaft. Here we go again.... but I tried them on and they were absolutely perfect, so while the wide shaft wasn't what I ordered, it *was* what I needed.

A note on shaft size: Neither a review of the Naturalizer website nor a call to their customer support line helped determine what shaft I needed, incidentally, so it was left to trial and error. The rep actually told me they don't have standards for shaft size from boot to boot. Here goes: If you're upward of 15" around the largest part of your calf, go with the wide shaft. Under that, you're fine with the regular shaft... but do eat a sandwich. Naturalizer Women's Barstowe Wide-Calf Knee-High Boot,Oxford Brown,8 M US

Be careful about ordering these boots! I noticed that someone who recently posted a review said she wanted the wide calf version of the boot and got the regular. I ordered these boots from this web page because I wanted regular calf-sized boots and did not see "wide calf" anywhere in the description. I just got a pair of wide calf boots that are way too big! I would call Amazon to clarify what size you are ordering before you do!

I was very please with these boots. The leather is good quality and the color is a beautiful, dark, rich brown. The detail on the side is great and the heel is thick enough to where you won't be in pain. They are also very comfortable and fit true to size. One thing though, I had to buy the wide ones, which I have never had to do before. I've never had a problem with my calves and boots before and I had to go wide on these. The regular were just a little too tight and the wides are definitely a little big (there is a gap between my leg and the boot at the top) but it looks ok that way.

I definitely recommend these boots.

I normally wear size 8, sometimes 8.5, and ordered 8 c/d. I have large calves (19-20") and it is very hard for me to find boots that fit (the c/d designates a wide shaft). So far they seem great they fit and I can even wear jeans underneath them. The sole is not very padded, which is a downside. However, I think there is space for me to add some inserts, so that is fine.

Also if you Google the shoes you can find lots of other reviews.

The details in the "show more" section say "Boot opening measures approximately 16" around." The Product Description says "Fits calves up to 14"."

My measuring tape says that the boot opening measures approximately 18" around.

Gorgeous boots! Too bad they don't fit their own description. That's sort of important for online ordering.

I am giving this boot a one star so that everyone will take notice that the boot listed here on Amazon is a wide shaft boot even though the description says regular shaft. I love the boot itself and am very disappointed that I have to send it back. I would love to get this boot in the regular shaft, I just have to fing it elsewhere I guess.

UPDATE: I took a chance a reordered this boot and it payed off. The second order got me the right boot, ie not a wide calf. Some people have commented that the boot felt a little small for size, I do not think that. I normally wear a 9 and ordered a 9 1/2. It's a bit loose, no biggie, I will wear socks but a 9 would have been a perfect fit. So now that the calf is the right size, I am very happy with this boot. I think I will try to get the black one now.

Very good quality and extremely comfortable. Heel is the perfect height for all day wear. Very stylish to wear with skirts, dresses, pants or jeans, Could not be happier with these boots and highly recommended. I purchased the regular shaft and fit my 13" calves perfectly.

I totally love this boot. Its all leather and fully linded inside for a much comfortable walking boot. The sexy D ring on the side really accents the heel. Only thing is the size. I'm right inbetween needing a regular and wide shaft so its a little big on me but the regular would be too tight. They make great pants tucked in boots. Also they are soft heel so if you like the clacking noise from other heels you won't get it from these. I would recommend these to a friend.

I loved this boot but it runs small. I could barely fasten the boot. I normally wear a 6.5 Wide which is what I ordered. It was entirely too small. It felt like a narrow boot. I returned it but it was a beautiful boot. I love Naturalizer products. They have always been so comfortable. Try ordering one size larger if you have a wide foot. - Clarks - Hard To Fit Calf - Tall Boots - Wide Calf Boot'
